Characters.Fate Grand Order Casters G To M: Her support abilities are minimal outside of her targetable heal/debuff immunity/Guts skill and are mainly meant to be used on herself (Buster buff, self-invincibility, NP gain increase, and even the targetable heal works best on herself since the debuff immunity can cancel out the demerits of her NP) and her NP is designed as a single-target Buster that's incredibly powerful for a Caster.

VideoGame.Octopath Traveler: Cyrus Albright, the Scholar: A teacher in an esteemed academy in Atlasdam, who goes on a journey to recover a tome filled with ancient knowledge known as From the Far Reaches of Hell, which vanished from the academy's archives over a decade beforehand. Cyrus's Path Action is Scrutinize, which lets him interrogate NPCs. However, since this is a Rogue Path Action, he runs the risk of damaging the party's reputation in town if he fails. His Talent is Study Foe, which automatically alerts the player to one of an enemy's unknown weaknesses at the start of battle.
Characters.Path To Nowhere Fraud: Played with. At first glance, Etti seems to be a Sinner who is focused on raw damage output as her Ultimate, Game Master, is all about creating a Constellation in the target area and forming Celestial Bodies to continuously attack random enemies within range. Even her first passive called Accelerate Operation buffs her attack even more as whenever Etti's initial attribute is triggered, not only does her attack speed increase, but she can also cast extra Celestial Body (up to 4) next time using Game Master. The effect, however, will be removed after she casts Game Master once. It is only her second passive called Game Rules that provides buffs rather than raw damage as each enemy has a 5% probability of generating a Gem after they die throughout the battle. A Sinner can gain a buff for 12 seconds after stopping for a moment to pick up the three differently colored Gems.Red Gem increases attack speed. Green Gem reduces damage. Blue Gem increases magic damage.
Characters.Deltarune The Three Heroes: Dark Is Not Evil: His face is shrouded in darkness, he shares certain aesthetic elements of Final Fantasy's Black Mages, and he is quite literally the Prince of Darkness in regards to the primary Fountain of Darkness that maintains his side of the world's balance; the manual hidden in the game files even has him proclaim that his body is made of literal darkness. He's also probably one of the most adorably nice and pleasant characters in the whole series, he refuses to let anyone be killed, and he's also packing healing and pacification magic as the White Mage of the party.
LetsPlay.Moogle FTW: Master of None: Accuses Wakka of this, stating that his only viable use is against flying/high Evasion enemies, and even then Lulu manages to do everything he can and more.
Characters.Heroes Of The Storm Diablo Universe: Xul's abilities are all about either disabling enemies or area damage. Even his one defensive ability, Bone Armor, can be talented to either deal area damage when it expires or slow nearby enemies while it's active.
StatingTheSimpleSolution.Video Games: In Octopath Traveler II, Hikari gets locked in a jail cell at one point, and one of his captors proceeds to let him out so he can go talk to the person he was looking for. A travel banter available immediately afterwards has Osvald disappointed by this, because he'd been planning an overly-complex escape method using the salt in any food they might've gotten to wear out the cell's bars. After stating that would take too long, Hikari points out that Osvald could've just used magic to destroy the bars instead.
Characters.Recettear An Item Shops Tale: He's a Squishy Wizard who has a grand total of one utility spell, with the rest being solely for offense and weak melee combat ability (though said melee attack and its fireball version also recharge his mana).
Characters.Heartbeat: Fantasy Character Classes: Despite her use of bows, she's more of a Black Mage, with great offensive stats coupled with a good variety in magic-based Chivalry abilities, but her status moves are rather weak and she's on the frailer side. She makes up for it by having a powerful Life Drain ability that hits all enemies though.
Awesome.Final Fantasy XIV Heavensward: The sins of Mhach once again come back to hunt the present in the form of Diavolos, Scathach and even more voidsents than before. So its only fitting if the Black Mage adventurer steps up and puts the sins of their nation to rest once and for all.
VideoGame.Trials Of Guinevere: Lane and Cormac, a Wind Adept and Occultist, respectively. Both of them wield powerful offensive magic and disabling spells, and each possesses one spell that causes instant death.
Characters.Cris Tales: His main role is the party's first elemental attacker, using fire, water, and lightning.
VideoGame.La Tale: The Sorcerer class abandons all healing for damage.
NotSoHarmlessVillain.Video Games: Final Fantasy IX: Remember Zorn and Thorn, the annoying jester twins whose asses you handed to them in Disc 2? They're not twins. The resulting monster spams the more harmful status ailments (Virus and Venom) while also bombarding you with powerful black magic (notably Bio... which also inflicts Poison!), making for a surprisingly challenging - and satisfying - Climax Boss. note Particularly when one factors in that your dedicated Black Mage runs off before the fight, and your more offensive-based Summoner is currently mute and has a high chance of failing to cast her spells.
Characters.Final Fantasy II: Of the four main characters, she has the best base Intelligence of the lot, making her the easiest character to build for this role. Maria can be developed in other ways if the player wishes, but this is the path of least resistance.
Characters.Arkham Horror: Used to be a great Hyperborean witch back in her past incarnation. Now, when her old enemies are after her again, her only chance of survival is to put her old power to use. In gameplay terms, she has the best Lore stat in the game (up to 6, tied with Harvey Walters and Diana Stanley), combined with reasonable Fight. Additionally, combat Spells receives a boost to their Combat bonus equal to a number of hands required to maintain them. If she passes her Personal Story, she gains an ability to freely retry a failed skill check on any Spell once per turn — which, naturally, she would use on combat spells.
Characters.Circleverse: And she hates it. She's been offered jobs by multiple rulers, but while they may start off as simple positions as a weather mage, they always eventually come down to 'kill people with lightning for me'. She wants to learn magical healing, but her control is nowhere near fine enough for the job.
VideoGame.Wynncraft: The Shaman fits primarily into the Mage niche, but borrows elements from the Warrior, having the lowest Defense rating of all, and very high Damage, Range, and Spells ratings besides. It relies on its Totem and spells to pull off Difficult, but Awesome crowd-control combos that can turn large crowds of enemies into lunchmeat within seconds, and its Totem can also heal and strengthen nearby allies while also damaging nearby mobs.
SoYouWantTo.Write A Dark Fantasy: Magic – it is fantasy we speak of, after all. It is not strictly necessary to do anything specific with magic in your story, but it's got a great potential. Many Dark Fantasy stories, as you would imagine, take the opportunity. There's a reason tropes like Magic Is Evil and Black Magic exist. You may build upon real-world stories and legends, which offer plenty of examples to pick from. It could include grisly prices such as a Deal with the Devil or Human Sacrifice, or just as well, magic users are not nice people either. Your wizarding order may be a tyrannical magocracy that meddles in the affairs of empires and believes in wizard supremacy over muggles - or in their order's supremacy over "witches", "hedge-magicians" or whatever slur they prefer for independent magic users. Anyway, even without all of that, it's pretty much given it won't be about harmless joy and helping upstart heroes.
Characters.Secret Of Mana: Most of Popoi's spells are offensive and they are your main, magical attacker.
CastingAShadow.Anime And Manga: In Yu-Gi-Oh!, Yugi Muto's ace card is Dark Magician. He's often accompanied by his apprentice, Dark Magician Girl. Both are Dark-attribute Spellcasters, though they both demonstrate that Dark Is Not Evil. Yugi: Dark Magician, attack with Dark Magic!
Characters.Yin Yang: Shout-Out: A recursive example: The original Black Mage was visually inspired by Orko, and this fic turns Orko himself into a master of Black Magic.
Characters.Patapon: Oohoroc is explicitly called one, being a powerful damage dealer who only gets exponentially stronger the more dedicatedly you use a certain staff.
FinalFantasyIX.Tropes Q To Z: Garnet counts as well; for the first two Discs, she functions almost solely as a White Mage (her Summons are unavailable for plot-related reasons), but once she starts re-learning her Summon Magic, she veers more into this: her White Magic, while always useful, isn't as extensive or complete as Eiko's, and her Summons—which consist mainly of elemental attacks—are also useful, but don't have the same range as Vivi's Black Magic, leaving her as a useful middle-ground between the two characters.
Literature.The Witch Of Knightcharm: Plenty of witches at the Scholomance fight by racking up damage with powerful spells. Notable examples include the necromancer twins Alejandra and Julia, the water-witch Amira, and the top student Morgan who crushes her opponents with magical shadows.
Fanfic.Searching For My Master: Beyond the Impossible: Guile doesn't like the word 'impossible'. Also, he tends to put logic aside to make the impossible possible.Proven when he catches a hammerhead of a hammer that is as big as himself and struggles to push it back with his bare hands. The wielder is a giant who can lift this big freaking hammer without breaking a sweat, yet this Long-Haired Pretty Boy Black Mage can stop the hammer from crushing him to the point the giant chooses to pull back. This is when his back is aching due to the said giant hammer damaging his spines. Ted directly says this is impossible. After defeating the said giant, Guile tries to lift the corpse and fly back to Termina. He fails, but he manages to go against the law of physics by putting logic aside through sheer determination. It doesn't last long as Rai's Dynamic Entry interrupts him, but still.
RagtagBunchOfMisfits.Literature: The main character of KonoSuba used to be a shut-in with no useful skills, talents or prospects in the real world. When he turned into an MMO world style adventurer, he retained most of his general uselessness — not only does he start at level 1, but his stats are below-average and his class is basic and underpowered. Out of the party that forms around him, however (to his chagrin), he is easily the most competent. The arch priest goddess that was dragged with him to the MMO world is a certified idiot who retains none of her divine powers, but all of her bluster. The arch wizard is a little girl who knows a vastly powerful form of explosion magic, a single use of which leaves her incapacitated for several minutes, and nothing else. And the sword-wielding female crusader wears heavy armor and has enormous strength and stamina, allowing her to take inhuman amounts of punishment in battle (which she enjoys very much), but cannot actually hit a target herself.
VideoGame.Mother 3: Joke Item: Lucas and Kumatora both can get the Fake Bat and Fake Frying Pan respectively, as nods to them being the successors of Ninten and Ana and Ness and Paula, due their roles as The Hero and The Smurfette who are the Combat Medic and Black Mage respectively. They even change their instrument sounds when they attack in battle, Lucas's becomes a Wooden Block, and Kumatoras' a Jaw Harp. However, these weapons are weak compared to what you should be equipped and are so expensive that it's not worth wasting your DP and inventory over.The doorknob.
Characters.Fire Emblem Antagonist Archetypes: For the most part, they ARE actually capable of black magic like literal witches, such as Hilda, Sonia and Cornelia. Even Petrine used a magic-attuned Flame Lance. Subverted with Loki, who's actually a staff usernote but even then, her PRF has Wrathful Staff built in, enabling her to deal damage like any other mage, but possesses the more manipulative tendencies of a black mage.
Characters.Dragaera: The entire Left Hand.Note that, while they're pretty much all female, Left Hand Jhereg are generally not cute enough to qualify as Black Magician Girls and not classy enough to qualify as Ladies of Black Magic.
VideoGame.Fuga Melodies Of Steel: Fighter, Mage, Thief: The three weapon classes of the game roughly correlate to this. Cannon users tend towards high damage output (in Boron's case, he has defense and healing abilities that have him lean more towards being a paladin), Machine Gunners are the agile rogue-type class specialized for stripping away armor and dealing with pesky flying units, and Grenade Launchers typically learn a variety of status-inducing skills that make them the mages. Hanna and Socks especially are nearly one-for-one examples of a White Mage/Black Mage duo, with Chick being more of a Red Mage.
Characters.Mother 3: Red Mage: In addition to her offensive spells, Kumatora can heal some (although not nearly as good as Lucas) and deal okay physical damage too, to the point that she'll be your primary healer when playing as her, Salsa, and Wess. That said, her primary role in the party is as your Black Mage, but she can handle other things in an emergency.
Characters.Memento Mori AFKRPG Witches Of Qlipha: Ironically for someone who looks like a White Mage that wished to protect the world, her Active Skills "Angelic Decimation" and "Demonic Judgement" purely deal damage; "The Pope's Blessing" passive buffs only her own defense and no one else; and the other passive that does affect allies, "Prayer for Salvation", increases their chance to inflict debuffs. Her skills being offensive and selfish in effect are likely a result of the demon's influence.
RedIsHeroic.Video Games: AMC Squad: Zaxtor Znort wears a red sleeveless shirt, and is The Big Guy of the AMC Squad. His deeds during the Oblivion Wars prior to the beginning of the game cement him as one of the more noble agents of the Squad, and he is much more passionate about his job compared to the rest of his ilk.To a lesser extent, Sang is this, as his primarily-black robe contains highlights of red, and while he may be more of an Anti-Hero than anything else, he still tries to do the right thing. He later switches to a red cleric's uniform after he and his fellow squadmates defeat Le Sang in Egypt, and he becomes a much more heroic character since then.
VideoGame.Star Ocean The Second Story: Brains Versus Brawn: Generally, the Mutually Exclusive Party Members are represented on which one utilizes physical skills more (Brawn) and which one can is more technologically OR magically attuned (Brains).Ashton is a physical-oriented Expellian (Brawn), while Opera is a technologically gifted Tetrageniot, as does Ernest (Brains). Precis is a technological genius despite being an Expellian (Brains), and while Bowman is a smart man on his own, he's not as advanced, technological science-wise, being able to hold his own with fist-fighting (Brawn). Dias is a Master Swordsman (Brawn) while Leon is a Black Mage (Brains).
Recap.SMG 4 Quest For The Spaghetti Of Power: Fighter, Mage, Thief: Mario serves as the party's primary Fighter using his ax, both Toad and Bowser fill in the Mage roles, Toad being the Black Mage and Bowser being The Medic, and Luigi's the Thief, having impressive dodging abilities and doing average damage with his arrows.
Characters.Kingdom Hearts Organization XIII: More or less combines the attributes of almost every single offensive magical class in Final Fantasy, along with the Scholar from Final Fantasy III.

Literature.Slayers: Any wizard who specialises in casting Black Magic or the Fire, Ice, Lightning spells from Shamanism can be considered this, though the in-universe terminology seems to be "sorcerer". Lina Inverse is a black mage by both definitions.
Fanfic.A Skittering Heart: Taylor has demonstrated use of all the traditional Final Fantasy elemental spells; Ice, Fire, and Thunder. In story, Taylor also realized with the spells she knew her repertoire was heavily slanted on the offensive/Black Mage side of the spell spectrum.
Webcomic.The Descended: While the Fire, Ice, Lightning and Earth Elements have spells which aren't offensive, their main focus is almost entirely on attack, making any practitioner of one or two of them into this.

Characters.The Order Of The Stick The Order Of The Stick: The Big Guy: There are three of these in different ways:Combat Medic: Durkon Thundershield wears armor and has a spell that makes him huge. Blood Knight: Belkar is the bloodthirsty one who mainly contributes with physical prowess. He even lampshades this in Utterly Dwarfed, noting how he's pretty much kept around only for raw muscle. Black Mage: Vaarsuvius specializes in offensive magic and mostly goes around blowing stuff up.

Characters.Dungeons And Dragons Classes Fifth Edition Classes: The Red Mage: Several domains allow their clerics to use spells outside the cleric list, but the Arcana domain grants two wizard cantrips right off the bat, and ultimately allows the player to pick four spells from 6-9th wizard levels (including wish). Grave Domain serves as the middle ground between Death Domain and Life Domain Clerics, due to representing the balance between life and death. Their spells and features are a mix of damage dealing and healing.
Characters.Fate Grand Order Protagonist: The Chaldea Battlesuit stuns an enemy and also buffs all Servants to hit harder. It can also can switch your frontline Servant with sub-members, allowing you to be more creative with tactics.
Characters.Samurai Shodown III: Badass Normal: Unlike Amakusa and Mizuki, Zankuro doesn't rely on sorcery or the dark powers of Ambrosia, being the first boss character to do so in the series. He wields a zanbatō which he uses to attack with amazing speed and strength. In his first boss appearance, he could easily defeat his foe in two to three strikes.
VideoGame.Final Fantasy III: Black and White Magic: Naturally, this being Final Fantasy. The Black Mage and its upgraded form Magus are the primary black magic-users, while the White Mage and its upgraded form Devout specialize in white magic. The Scholar, Red Mage, and Sage jobs can all use both schools of magic, listed here in increasing order of proficiency. In the DS remake, Onion Knights are capable of learning and casting any spell from either school, as well.
