Main Characters

    Kikuru Madan
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kikuru.png
Voiced by: Katsumi Fukuhara
The Ace of Mebuki Town, who after devoting his youth to training and hunting monsters, wants to retire to live a normal life.
  • The Ace: A decidedly non-flashy variant. He is the ace of Mebuki, a title he achieved by being a very good hunter, stealthy, efficient, and very accurate with his bow.
  • Ace Custom: He requests that his reward for taking part in the subjugation of King Mashura is to obtain a new bow made from the Named's remains.
  • All the Other Reindeer: He is looked down upon by other guards, who believe his status as The Ace is unearned due to only gaining it through having the most kills.
  • Badass Normal: Chapter 52 explains that Kikuru has no mana, which is why he is never shown using any skill. So instead he managed to replicate the skills with his own strength after going through Training from Hell.
  • Boring, but Practical: Kikuru works much like a real hunter, stealthily approaching monsters and attacking a vulnerable point to take them down quickly. Flashy? No. Efficient? Yes. This is part of the reason why he is not as well-known as the aces of other towns, who have more flashy skills and abilities and kill Named monsters while Kikuru killed the would-be-Named monsters before they could grow up.
  • Brutal Honesty: Kikuru does not sugarcoat the numerous flaws of his teammates that are constantly putting themselves and him in danger. He does want to help them grow, but he is far from delicate about it.
  • Chivalrous Pervert: He does not mind Eating the Eye Candy when it presents itself, but is still a very laid-back, stand-up guy who will always save people in danger.
  • Combat Pragmatist: Kikuru's way of hunting monsters. Despite his skill, Kikuru only fights monsters head-on as either a last resort or as part of an overall greater strategy for his younger teammates to properly finish them off. When alone, he snipes monsters from a distance, uses traps to weaken and then kill them, or dodges their attacks until they've used up all their power. This is actually extremely efficient, as Kikuru performs far better than others who fight traditionally, as some monsters, and all of the Named, are stronger than even guards in most cases, and the only ones that reliably pull off fighting them head-on are guards with cursed names or are veterans with overwhelming power.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: He delivers one to the party of Ibara's ace including the ace himself for using Hanabata as a decoy.
  • Deliberate Injury Gambit: The few times monsters do manage to get a hit on him are done deliberately for the sake of crippling them and making them easier to handle.
  • Devious Daggers: His weapon for close combat is a dagger to represent his pragmatic fighting style, which he showcases through finding openings to slash his opponent's limbs to hinder their movements.
  • Experienced Protagonist: He was declared the ace of Mebuki more than a year before the first chapter.
  • Face Palm: Does it with both hands when he realizes the girls came to his neighborhood dressed as school girls while making a conversation that can be easily misinterpreted.
  • Forbidden Fruit: While he can feel physical attraction to his companions, he usually shows good control of his hormones when they are put in lewd situations while hunting. He struggles a lot more when it happens to Enome, and at the end of the first chapter where she is attacked by monsters, he makes a mental note of the "immoral" feeling he has now that he touched a married women, even if by necessity.
  • Girl on Girl Is Hot: He found it particularly hard to resist his urges when a berserk Hanabata started molesting Hitamuki, something Tokishikko quickly took notice of.
  • The Greatest Story Never Told: Due to him crediting the defeat of the Named to the guards who landed the killing blow, he is not credited for their defeat despite being the one creating the plans and making sure they work by weakening the Named by fighting it directly.
  • Good Is Not Soft: Kikuru might be a genuinely nice person, but he takes his job very seriously, is always blunt with his teammates, utterly ruthless when hunting monsters, goes full-blown when it comes to training, and those who genuinely anger him are in for a lot of pain and slashed limbs.
  • Humble Hero: Very humble in spite of his obvious skill.
  • Innocently Insensitive: He asked the Bii siblings if they can sniff out the Nightmare they are hunting under the belief they have an exceptional smell like Hitamuki, another beast-person. Once they clarify that their sense of smell is normal, he apologizes for his prejudice.
  • Jack of All Trades: He is best described as an all-rounder who is skillful in martial arts, sword fighting, and archery, which allows him to adapt to the situation at hand. The only thing he can't do is recon and scouting, which is why he works the best with Hitamuki.
  • No One Gets Left Behind: His belief is that the ace is someone, who should not let anyone die, which he tells to Saran, the ace of Ibara, whose belief is that the guards with the most kills should survive at the cost of sacrificing others.
  • No-Respect Guy: Despite being the ace of Mebuki Town, Kikuru is not known by the populace and is looked down on by other guards.
  • Normal Fish in a Tiny Pond: This is what other guards think Kikuru is despite being the ace of Mebuki Town since he is never shown on the news. This causes some guards to think they can easily overtake his record and title, only for a duo of them only being able to barely kill around half the monsters he normally does daily by himself.
  • Not So Weak: While he doesn't do anything to other guards, who insult and doubt his abilities, he is absolutely enraged upon learning that Saran's party sacrificed Hanabata to save themselves. What follows is a huge Curb-Stomp Battle with his opponents unable to even land a hit on him and leaving them with slashed and/or broken limbs to incapacitate them.
  • Oblivious to Love: He doesn't seem to register that some of the girls might have feelings for him. This is probably coming off the back of Eshune stating that she doesn't love him romantically.
  • Only Sane Man: He is the most rational and competent member of the group, and has the least amount of issues. He doesn't mind all the lewdness he often encounters, but always points out how absurd it is.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: By virtue of being both a more seasoned adventurer and older than the ladies in his party. He wants to see the girls become better at hunting monsters and surpass their personal flaws, but he doesn't hesitate to point out what they do wrong with Brutal Honesty.
  • The Reliable One: Despite what the other guards around his age think about him, Kikuru is the ace of Mebuki Town for a reason, as his incredible combat skills, willingness to use pragmatic tactics, rational approach while fighting any monster, and overall thorough culling of them, even young monsters that would most likely become Named if they were allowed to grow, had made the monster threat level in Mebuki Town far lower than in other towns, and it is shown quite clearly that without him, Mebuki would be overrun by monsters, since the others are nowhere near his level.
  • Secretly Wealthy: As he himself has stated in the first chapter due to working his entire life, he has more than enough savings to retire.
  • The Strategist: Kikuru is the one who creates the subjugation plans for his party.
  • Stealth Expert: He is capable of hiding his presence of monsters and masking his killing intent allowing him to snipe them with his bow easily.
  • Training from Hell: He spent most of his teenage years doing harsh training. It's the reason Kikuru is as good as he is… and as socially inept too. In an attempt to whip his party into shape, he subjects them to the same training.
  • Tranquil Fury: After Hanabata informed him that she was left for dead by Saran and his party, Kikuru is understandably enraged. In response to this treachery, he systematically slices and breaks all of their limbs in a chilling display of Curb-Stomp Battle.
  • Vetinari Job Security: He is the sole reason why Mebuki is so safe, which is why he can't just quit without the risk of the town being overrun by monsters. This is shown when he returns from vacation with his party and visits the guild to see how things went. Inside the reception, there is complete chaos since the guards, who migrated from Kodama, were unable to handle his workload with several of them getting injured and/or molested by monsters.
  • Workaholic: Despite wanting to retire, his vacation makes it clear that he doesn't like lazing around since he is too used to spending his entire life training and working without rest.
  • Wouldn't Hurt a Child: He only watches as a pair of twin boys tie up and sexually harass Hitamu, with him claiming that they are even worse than the monsters because he can't bring himself to attack them.

    Hitamu Kyan
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/hitamu_n.png
Voiced by: Karin Isobe
A new guard Kikuru is assigned to train. A person, who doesn't plan things ahead and makes several blunders, which results in monsters easily defeating and molesting her.
  • Aesop Amnesia: No matter how many times people tell her to stop introducing herself to monsters and how many times monsters attack her midsentence, she keeps introducing herself.
  • Affectionate Nickname: Nicknames Kikuru "Kikun" soon after meeting him, and insists her friends can call her Hitamuki in turn.
  • Awesome, but Impractical: Her counterattack skill might be powerful, but it comes with serious drawbacks that make it all but useless in a real fight. It can only be used with one opponent at a time and the practitioner has to remain completely still and in position.
  • Blessed with Suck: Something about Hitamuki's mana makes her very attractive to monsters.
  • Corruption of a Minor: She unintentionally does this to a pair of twins, who now molest her when playing 'hero'.
  • Counterattack: She knows the skill to counterattack an attacking monster, but it never actually works since the monsters are smart enough to not attack someone with such a firm fighting stance.
  • Cute Little Fangs: She usually appears with a snaggletooth, which goes well with both her status as a beastman and her eagerness and cuteness.
  • Expressive Ears: Like a dog, her ears perk up or get down depending on her mood.
  • Feminine Women Can Cook: Despite her status as a Bare-Fisted Monk, she's pretty girly and is the best at cooking for all the girls at the party. Chapter 67 even goes so far as to rank her cooking skill at 8 stars and refers to her as a Goddess in that regard.
  • Good Is Dumb: She a complete sweetheart, whose kindness and naivety make her easy pickings for monsters to molest.
  • Head-Turning Beauty: She catches a lot of guys' attention when she goes shopping with Kikuru.
  • Hartman Hips: Hitamuki has a big butt and the camera loves to look at it.
  • Honor Before Reason: Her flaw is that she tries to honor the rules of martial arts against monsters, who immediately attack and molest her when she tries greeting them.
  • Leeroy Jenkins: Her tactics don't go further than going up to the monster and attacking them openly.
  • Little Bit Beastly: Hitamu is a beast person, with dog ears and a tail.
  • The Load: Zig-zagged. She is rather useless as a martial artist since she is too kind to attack monsters discreetly, her moves are easily seen through and is unable to adapt to the situation at hand, which is why she's unable to kill even a single monster. However, she is an excellent support, being able to scout monsters with her hearing and nose and later on knows healing abilities.
  • Magic Is a Monster Magnet: Her mana is so pure and replenishes so fast that monsters essentially see her as a gourmet source of mana.
  • Nice Girl: She is so nice, that she even feels bad about using dirty tactics against monsters.
  • The Nicknamer: She likes to give nicknames to her friends. Kikuru is "Kikun", Maidena is "Maide", Hanabata is "Hana" and so on.
  • The Nose Knows: As a beastman, Hitamu has a pretty sharp nose, which she uses to track down monsters.
  • School Sport Uniform: She tends to wear such an outfit (complete with her name written on it) when she's not hunting monsters.
  • Support Party Member: Despite her martial arts training, she is more or less useless in fighting against monsters. However, she has a great sense of smell allowing her to search for monsters and obtained healing skills allowing her to heal the injuries of other party members. Maidena even outright tells her that she is much more suited for support than for combat.
  • Third-Person Person: She refers to herself as Hitamuki, representing her youthfulness and immaturity.
  • Verbal Tic: To go with being a wolf girl, she occasionally adds 'wau' to the end of her sentences.
  • Wrong Line of Work: Even Maidena tells her she's not cut out to be a martial artist and should focus with support instead.

    Maidena Angers
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/maidena_n.png
Voiced by: Ayano Shibuya
The second guard Kikuru is assigned to train. A prideful white mage, who is considered a genius in her field.
  • A-Cup Angst: Being the youngest member of the party, she is also the flattest, a fact she doesn't like being reminded of.
  • Barrier Warrior: Besides healing she can also create barriers of Hard Light around her, but they aren't particularly tough unless she focuses.
  • Break the Haughty: She started out as a rather prideful genius with tons of self-confidence, but after adventuring she is so scared of monsters till the point she's in tears over the fact she is forced to go to Kodama mountain under the belief that she has to fight against the Named.
  • Covert Pervert: It's not immediately apparent, but she develops a very masochistic side during her time with the guild.
    • When a plant monster wraps its vines around her body, she gets so aroused by it that she later masturbates by tying herself up and rubbing against her staff.
    • After posting a picture of herself online, she thinks about the compliments she received from anonymous people, fantasizing about how they would come over and violate her.
  • Does Not Like Men: She sees men as perverts and is hostile to them. However, she eventually warms up to Kikuru, and she’s shown to have perverted tendencies of her own.
  • Good Thing You Can Heal: She is very skilled with healing magic, which she can cast on both her teammates and herself.
  • Healing Magic Is the Hardest: According to Maidena, healing magic is difficult to master. Whether that is true for other White Mages or just her is not addressed.
  • Intimate Marks: Her magical crest is on her lower back, slightly above her butt.
  • Lethal Harmless Powers: She is able to kill an octopus monster by purifying the salt water it was in into fresh water.
  • Prone to Tears: Her experiences with monsters have left her quite prone to crying like a baby when things get too tough.
  • Serious Business: She takes spoilers in mystery novels very seriously, and Tokishikko pressing that button only enrages her.
  • Squishy Wizard: She is good with healing magic, but can't take a hit.
  • Token Mini-Moe: Maidena is a small, 15-year-old girl in a party where the other members are 18 or older.
  • Too Dumb to Live: After seeing Hitamu's loss against a slime, she still decides to rely on her for protection instead of the more competent and experienced Kikuru due to her dislike of men.
  • Trauma Button: Played for Laughs. Due to experiencing Kikuru's Training from Hell, whenever someone mentions "training" and "pain" together, she reacts like a scared little animal.
  • White Mage: Her class In-Universe. Her role in the group is to be a healer.

    Tokishikko Dana
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tokishikko_n.png
Voiced by: Yo Taichi
The third guard Kikuru is assigned to train. A black mage who would rather laze around than do her job.
  • Brilliant, but Lazy: Tokishikko is a genuinely skilled Black Mage, but she lacks motivation and is generally lazy.
  • Childhood Friends: She's been friends with Hanabata since they were young.
  • The Gadfly: Loves to tease her friends, especially about the possibility of one of them hooking up with Kikuru.
  • Gamer Chick: She spends most of her free time playing video games.
  • Giver of Lame Names: The name she gave to the Named Yokegumo she killed is "God Dodge" due to its evasive capabilities. Naturally, Kikuru uses her as an example of how some Named get quirky names from their killer.
  • Glass Cannon: Her spells are very powerful, but low energy and stamina mean absolutely zero ability to take damage.
  • I Resemble That Remark!: When she complains to Kikuru that he's using her name as a synonym for lazing around, he points out she's slacking right now.
  • Lazy Bum: Could be a very powerful mage, if only she would start making an effort to be one.
  • Meaningful Name: Her name roughly spells 'Toxico' and it gives her the passive ability to be immune to poisons and diseases. She can transfer that protection to others with her saliva.
  • Older Than They Look: She doesn't look much different from the 15-year-old Maidena, but in reality, she is 18, like Hitamuki and Hanabata.
  • Only in It for the Money: The only reason she originally became a guard was due to the paycheck.
  • Potty Failure: Due to drinking an excessive amount of mana potion to kill the Named Yokegumo, she ends up peeing herself while on top of Kikuru after being thoroughly exhausted.
  • Squishy Wizard: Comes with the territory when one is a Black Mage.

    Hanabata Nohkins
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/hanabata_n.png
Voiced by: Yuna Kamakura
The fourth guard Kikuru is assigned to train. A warrior wielding heavy weaponry and heir to Nohkin Sports. She has great strength and a skill to increase it at the cost of turning uncontrollable and childish.
  • Alcohol-Induced Bisexuality: When she is sober she only shows interest in Kikuru, but in one of her "drunk on mana" incidents, she started molesting Hitamuki too.
  • The Berserker: Chaos ensues when she gets drunk on her own mana.
  • Buxom Beauty Standard: Her metal breastplate struggles to contain the wonderments and she's quite the Head-Turning Beauty both in and out of her armor.
  • D-Cup Distress: She mentions it's difficult to get clothes that fit her proportions, she gets stiff shoulders and people always stare at her.
  • Humongous-Headed Hammer: Her weapon of choice is a war hammer with a huge head that even has a flower design.
  • Intoxication Ensues: The effects of her Flower Frenzy skill cause this. According to Tokishikko, mana flows into her head and causes her to become drunk on it. Her inebriated state makes her childish and overly attached to Kikuru.
  • Locked Out of the Loop: Due to always forgetting what happens when she uses Lunatic Flower, she has no idea what she does during Frenzy until Kikuru decides to tell her the truth by showing footage of her rampage. Naturally, she is very embarrassed upon finding out that she turns very childish and immature.
  • Love Before First Sight: Even before meeting Kikuru, she already admired and had a crush on him due to him being the only person her father acknowledged.
  • Marshmallow Hell: More than once she has smothered Kikuru with her breasts while in Frenzy mode.
  • The Ojou: Comes from a very well-off family and prior to becoming an adventurer, she had her own security detail.
  • Overshadowed by Awesome: Despite being strong enough to easily kill bears and boars, which even more experienced guards tend to avoid. She doesn't consider it such a big deal since both her father and Kikuru can kill them just as if not even more easily.
  • Rose-Haired Sweetie: Pink hair, check. Spoiled Sweet, check. Unfailingly polite and nice to everyone, check.
  • Spoiled Sweet: Heiress to a major company, still nice to everyone.
  • Statuesque Stunner: Officially stands at 178cm tall, and she's a Head-Turning Beauty, even if her height is not mentioned.
  • Super-Strength: She's incredibly strong, as demonstrated by the ease she has wielding her hammer. She can also give some pretty crushing Bear Hugs.
  • Tomboy with a Girly Streak: Her speech patterns are masculine and she has a straightforward personality, but she likes to wear feminine clothing on her days off.
  • The Ugly Guy's Hot Daughter: Not that her father is ugly, just incredibly stern-looking, but she's a total knockout and a sweetheart.
  • Weak to Magic: She has monstrous physical strength but she's incredibly weak to magical attacks. It's so bad she even gets intoxicated with her own mana.

    Noma Rune
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/noma_n.png
Voiced by: Saho Shirasu
An adventurer who was injured by the Named Yokegumo. After being rescued and his party members leaving to train, he starts training with Kikuru's party.
  • Curtains Match the Window: Golden eyes and golden hair.
  • Dude Looks Like a Lady: Noma looks very feminine for a guy. He states that there isn't much difference between males and females of his race, although he does mention he has a smaller face, bigger eyes, smaller frame, and a higher pitched voice than other males of the fairy folk.
  • Elfeminate: He's a very feminine-looking male elf. According to him, all elves have feminine looks regardless of gender.
  • Gender Bender: The Human Disguise magic that Zenith gave him not only makes his ears round like a human, it also makes the equipment downstairs a female one, although Noma doesn't look or sound any different. Kikuru is not upset about it at all.
  • Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: Blonde-haired and is an incredibly nice person.
  • Heroic Self-Deprecation: Despite his resourcefulness and quick-witted thoughts, he demeans himself for not being as strong as other guards in their specialized areas and only being a Jack of All Trades.
  • One of the Girls: When Maidena finds out about his gender, she decides to just treat Noma like another girlfriend. Noma isn't sure how to feel about that.
  • Protectorate: This is how he was seen by his former party members, who didn't let him fight and instead told him to fall back due to considering him too beautiful for any harm to come.
  • Red Mage: His job class being able to use both white and black magic although not its more advanced spells.
  • The Reliable One: In contrast with Kikuru's other party members, he does not have any Fatal Flaw which makes it hard to party with him.
  • Royal Rapier: His weapon is a rapier named Seirein.
  • Stupid Sexy Flanders: Due to his looks and mannerisms, guys can't help but feel excited with him.

    Coin Ronribas
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/futoku_no_guild_08.jpg
A guard who migrated from Kodama to Mebuki. An Otaku Party or "otapa" princess, who would rather take the credit of other adventurers than do the job herself, she later joins Kikuru’s party and undergoes as a thief from him as his sixth student.
  • A-Cup Angst: While a D-cup, her breasts are still smaller than Hitamuki's and Hanabata's. Her frustration over this allowed her to obtain a skill she had difficulty with.
  • Affectionate Nickname: Starts referring to Kikuru as Kuru-run, to his annoyance.
  • Attention Whore: She loves being doted on by other people and dislikes it whenever the attention is taken away from her.
  • Bare Midriffs Are Feminine: Her default rogue outfit leaves her midsection exposed and she's a girly Otapa Princess.
  • Curtains Match the Window: Color pages show she has golden eyes and blonde hair.
  • Fashionable Asymmetry: One of her leggings is black and the other has diamonds.
  • Lazy Bum: She would rather have her fans kill monsters for her rather than fight herself.
  • Positive Friend Influence: Being berated and trained by Kikuru causes her to take her job as a guard a bit more seriously the reason why she recklessly chose to save a pair of guards wanting to be acknowledged by him.
  • Sixth Ranger: She debuts much later in the manga than the other party members and she isn't part of Kikuru's group all the time.
  • Stealing the Credit: Her kills are actually gifted to her by her fans.
  • What You Are in the Dark: On Kodama mountain, when seeing a pair of guards being molested by a pair of Double Monkeys, she chose to rescue them herself even though no one could have known she ran away.

Mebuki Town

    Enome
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/enome_stand.png
Voiced by: Rumi Ōkubo
The guild secretary of Mebuki Town and the one who put the girls in Kikuru's care.
  • Buxom Beauty Standard: She has the second biggest pair in the series and she's considered quite attractive. Even Kikuru can't help but feel guilty about staring at her.
  • Divine Date: Chapter 60 reveals that her husband is the god Zenith, who created the skills in the world.
  • Dude Magnet: Due to her looks and kind personality, she is popular with the guys.
  • Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: Golden hair and she's a very nice person, not even getting truly mad at Kikuru whenever she finds herself in lewd situations.
  • Older Than They Look: She's 31 with an eleven-year-old daughter, but she doesn't look older than twenty. It runs in her family since her mother looks barely older than she does. It is explained this partly comes from her having fairy folk blood in her through her parents. Being given divinity means she's likely The Ageless.
  • Only One Name: She has no surname due to her status as the wife of a god and a minor deity in her own right.
  • Semi-Divine: She also became part goddess after receiving divinity from her husband Zenith, putting her in the same range as a local deity.
  • Shipping Torpedo: That she only sees Kikuru Like Brother and Sister hits him pretty hard.
  • Team Mom: Besides being an actual mother, she takes on a concerned and motherly role towards the other females in Kikuru's group. Even Hanabata's childish personality starts calling her Mother, to Eshune's dismay.
  • Uneven Hybrid: Her mother is a half-blooded fairy folk and her father is full-blooded. This makes her 3/4th of fairy folk.
  • What Does She See in Him?: Everyone questions why she married Zenith and continues to be loyal to him despite his continued absence and womanizing.

    Eshune
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/eshune_stand.png
Voiced by: Yuyu Shoji
The daughter of Enome who also works as a secretary of the Mebuki guild.
  • Dirty Kid: As the comments she makes whenever she finds Kikuru and her mother in compromising situations show, she is much more aware of sexual matters than you would expect of a child her age.
  • Disappeared Dad: Her father has been missing for 12 years, but she has little interest in ever meeting him again.
  • In the Blood: Eshune constant disrespect towards her father comes from inheriting his aggressive personality.
  • Little Miss Snarker: She can say some really biting things when she wants to. Her father, Zenith, gets the brunt of it.
  • Not Allowed to Grow Up: Her father Zenith tells her that due to her divine blood, she will not grow much beyond a certain period. Luckily he gives her a 'Ceremony' that will allow her to dissipate her mana during her growth period.
  • Parents Walk In at the Worst Time: Inverted. She has a tendency of arriving at a scene right when Kikuru and Enome are in a compromising position.
  • Semi-Divine: She is part goddess on her father's side. In fact, she and her mother are the "Goddess of Love Between Parent and Child" according to Zenith.
  • Shipper on Deck: She really wants Kikuru to marry her mother and be her new dad.
  • Strong Family Resemblance: She looks like a smaller, younger version of her mother, she even has rather large breasts for her age.
  • Uneven Hybrid: Like her mother, she is partially fairy folk. That she's the daughter of a god makes her half-goddess.
  • Wise Beyond Their Years: She's capable enough to work at the guild alongside her mother. She's also smart enough to get Kikuru and Enome into romantic situations.
  • You Are Not My Father: When she finally meets her biological father Zenith she understandably wants nothing to do with him since not only did she never meet him once until this point, but he keeps flirting with every female he sees even right in front of his wife.

    Resumisu Care
Voiced by: Kozue Yuuki
An imp who works as a nurse at Mebuki town's clinic.
  • A-Cup Angst: She envies the larger breasts Enome and Hanabata have.
  • Lethal Chef: Chapter 67 describes her cooking as so bad it's expected to one day kill someone.
  • The Load: Either as a nurse or as a secretary she's pretty bad and tends to cause more trouble than what she solves.
  • Token Mini-Moe: She's even shorter than Maidena and Esyne and her kind looks like children.
  • Token Wholesome: Of all the female characters, she's the only one without a lewd moment.
  • Vague Age: Because imps usually are Older Than They Look, her age is difficult to determine due to her somewhat childish attitude.
  • Worst Aid: She's not a very good nurse. Not only does she screw up a schedule right before a medical check-up, but on another occasion, she also injected a random adventurer with a sedative without knowing its content and only used it based on its color.

    Noma's former party members
A duo of adventurers that were the ones who first saw the Named Yokegumo. They left Mebuki Town to train after Kikuru upstaged them by completing the Yokegumo's subjugation.
  • Anti-Mentor: When Noma adventured with them, they didn't let their junior fight at all and only told him to stay away from danger. Naturally, this only led to Noma having confidence issues and not being able to obtain any actual field experience. It really is no wonder that Noma decides to stay with Kikuru rather than go back to them.
  • Butt-Monkey: They aren't taken that seriously by other characters and their only role is to lose to dangerous monsters and warn other characters about their impending doom.
  • Condescending Compassion: When Kikuru is forced to against a Named, their warnings are more or less the same as insults by calling him a weakling who has zero percent chance of surviving a battle against a Named.
  • The Dividual: They are always seen together; their only difference is their job classes.
  • Hypocrite: For all their dismissal of Kikuru, they have absolutely nothing to prove that they are more competent than him and their only ability shown on screen is barely surviving an encounter with the Named.
  • Know-Nothing Know-It-All: They see themselves as superior guards yet their only role is to barely survive an encounter with a Named and tell Kikuru how dangerous the monster is and that he will definitely get killed if he tries to fight. Naturally not only does Kikuru survive every encounter and outright help in the monster's subjugation, but their advice against the Nightmare in particular is completely useless.
  • Running Gag: Their only role is to survive an encounter with the Named and tell Kikuru he stands no chance against it.
  • Underestimating Badassery: They dismiss Kikuru as a weakling who only got his title of ace through killing a large amount of 'weak' monsters. Despite his being much more successful than them they continue to look down on him out of contempt for 'taking' Noma.
  • Was Too Hard on Him: In an omake, they wondered if what they said to Kikuru was too harsh. They more or less ignore this out of a petty grudge.

    Toru Nohkins
Hanabata's father and owner of Nohkins Sports.
  • Deus Exit Machina: While semi-retired he is still a powerful guard, who could have killed King Mashura by himself, but could not be sent on the mission due to monsters avoiding him due to his strength.
  • The Dreaded: The reason why he isn't sent to Kodama Mountain is that his sheer strength causes monsters to avoid him.
  • Face of a Thug: He looks very threatening due to his eyes, which gives him the impression of being overprotective, but in actuality, he tries to be a jovial guy and is very open and willing for Kikuru to marry his daughter.
  • It's Quiet… Too Quiet: When he goes to the forest expecting many monsters due to not having ventured for half a year, he notices the lack of monsters. He then sees Kikuru and realizes through a conversation that the new ace is the reason for the lack of monsters.
  • No-Sell: As a flashback shows a Todoguma punches him in the face. Only for him to be completely unfazed by it and kill the bear-like monster with his weapon.
  • Only Sane Man: Unlike other Guards, he acknowledges Kikuru's skills and knows full well he is the reason why Mebuki Town is so safe.
  • Retired Badass: Since he also needs to run a company, he is semi-retired as a guard.
  • Shipper on Deck: He wants Kikuru to marry his daughter.
  • Super-Strength: His daughter inherited her strength from him as shown in a flashback that his smaller hammer is able to obliterate the head of a bear with ease.
  • Weapon Specialization: Just like his daughter, his weapon of choice was a hammer, albeit much smaller than Hanabata's.

    Iz Mean Mill
Voiced by: Nobuo Tobita
An imp who owns an old bookshop and who mentored Kikuru when he was younger.
  • Last Episode, New Character: He first appears in chapter 26, which coincides with the last episode of the anime.
  • Mr. Exposition: He's the one who explains to Kikuru and Hitamuki the reason why her mana is such a magnet for monsters.
  • Older Than They Look: As it's typical for his kind, he might look like a child but is at least over 40 years old.
  • Parental Substitute: Chapter 66 reveals that Iz and his unnamed wife took care of Kikuru before he started his guard training with the Hatsudori's.
  • The Stoic: He's not very expressive nor his voice tone changes much when talking.
  • Vocal Dissonance: The anime gives him a deep and sage-like voice, which contrasts greatly with his child-like appearance.

    Hochou Hatsudori
A former ninja, retired guard and one of Kikuru's old teachers.
  • Mood-Swinger: He can go from calm and collected to incredibly upset at the drop of a hat, which Kikuru lampshades.
  • Murder Is the Best Solution: Being an old-school ninja means his first approach to a problem is to murder someone, which Kikuru calls him out.
  • Retired Badass: He might be retired but he hasn't lost any of his edge and can give Kikuru a hard time.
  • Sir Swears-a-Lot: His speech is translated with a lot of curses when talking or yelling.
  • Smoking Is Cool: He's seen smoking a kiseiru pipe and he's rather cool when actually calm.
  • Training from Hell: He subjected both Kikuru and his granddaughter Sanzo to the same hellish training, and both haven't fully overcome it.

    Zanzo Hatsudori
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/futoku_no_guild_11.jpg
The granddaughter of Hochou who was trained alongside Kikuru when they were children.
  • Blind Without Them: She can't see very well without her glasses, which is how a bunch of slimes got the drop on her and she got molested alongside Hitamuki and Maidena.
  • The Comically Serious: She keeps a straight face even when talking about harsh training, inane things, or how she got Kikuru flamed online trying to defend him.
  • Curtains Match the Window: She has dark blue hair and blue eyes.
  • Training from Hell: She was subjected to this alongside Kikuru by her grandfather, and despite claiming otherwise she clearly hasn't forgiven him yet. She also subjects Hitamuki and Maidena to some harsh training as well.
  • Well-Trained, but Inexperienced: Her skill as a kunoichi is very much true, but due to only being 18 years old she's not an official guard yet, so her only experience with monsters is through the internet, leaving her blindsided to a slime attack.

Tane Town

    Mishelly Hito
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/futoku_no_guild_07.jpg
The only remaining young guard in Tane Town. A very shy 21-year-old young woman.
  • Apologizes a Lot: Being so shy means she's prone to apologizing for things she thinks might have bothered someone, such as when she meets Okuri for the first time and thinks she did something to upset her.
  • Barrier Warrior: Instead of fighting up close, she creates huge magical barriers to keep monsters away from her.
  • Corner of Woe: Goes into one of this when she feels she has inconvenienced someone, which is unsurprisingly often.
  • Don't Look At Me: She doesn't handle being looked at very well.
  • Guest-Star Party Member: She's not an official member of Kikuru's party and only joins him when she musters the courage to leave her hometown.
  • Shrinking Violet: She's so shy she even wears a fox mask over her face. That she lets others see her face is a sign of her growth.
  • Statuesque Stunner: Standing at 173cm tall, she's the second tallest female seen so far, and she's quite beautiful.

Kodama Town

    Kanzebo Bii
The ace of Kodama Town who is known for his invincible defense.
  • The Ace: Of Kodama Town thanks to his invincible defense and great strength. After his death was publicly announced, a power vacuum was created, which caused several guards in Kodama to try to become the new ace and weaker guards to migrate to Mebuki.
  • Brother–Sister Team: He and his sister Okuri are a team who work together.
  • Dead All Along: In his second meeting with Kikuru, he already died from Nightmare's dying curse with his body being reanimated by his grieving sister.
  • Famed In-Story: He is a well-known ace thanks to his strength till the point they sell toys based on his likeness there.
  • Little Bit Beastly: Like his sister, he's a fox beastman.
  • Living Toys: After his death, his soul is placed in one of the Kanzebo dolls made after his likeness.
  • Shield Bash: Due to already having a unique skill called Perfect Defense, he does not use his shield for defense, but for offense.
  • Walking Spoiler: It's hard to talk about him without mentioning the fact that he is dead due to being cursed by the Named Nightmare he killed.

    Okuri Bii
Kanzebo's sister and a necromancer, who controls the bodies of monsters she kills.
  • Bad Powers, Good People: She's a necromancer, a job that has a negative reputation, but she uses it for good. This becomes even more true after she comes to terms with her brother's death and realizes using the corpses of monsters for her own purposes is wrong.
  • Curtains Match the Window: She has violet hair and eyes of the same color.
  • Desecrating the Dead: Out of grief for her brother's death, she reanimated both his body and the Nightmare due to not wanting to let go of her brother. The monster's reanimated in particular was seen as disrespectful due to it not being used for monster subjugation.
  • Little Bit Beastly: Like Hitamu, she's a beastman, but she's a fox instead of a dog.
  • The Necromancer: Her job and skill are to control the corpses of monsters to fight for her.
  • Underestimating Badassery: She saw Kikuru a rather weak ace due to him and his party struggling with Night Owls due to Hitamu screwing things up, along with not knowing him due to his lack of media exposure. He proves her wrong when he came back and showed he could have succeeded at killing the Nightmare by himself, leaving her with no idea how to treat him.

    San Hoshi
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/futoku_no_guild_09.jpg
A guard from Kodama Town, who accompanies Kikuru's party to Kodama Mountain to defeat the Named there. As a monster user, she fights with a whip she uses to control monsters and is skilled enough to be a candidate for the next ace.
  • The Ace: She becomes the new ace of Kodama Town due to her contribution to the subjugation of King Mashura and the other two ace candidates being relocated to Ibara Town due to Saran's party losing their status out of misconduct.
  • Berserk Button: Don't mock or tease her about her height, as Coin found out.
  • Cool Big Sis: She's seen as one by Hanabata.
  • Big Sister Instinct: She personally punishes Saran's party members for abandoning Hanabata.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: She made her first appearance in chapter 37 as one of the candidates for becoming the next ace of Kodama before making her proper debut in chapter 47.
  • Little Miss Badass: Kikuru mentions that she is one of the next candidates to be the next ace Kodoma Town. Her combat prowess shows why.
  • Mind Rape: She can cut the arteries to the brains of monsters she controls if they disobey her orders. Normally it only should cause a severe headache, but when she uses it she causes the monsters to faint from the pain.
  • Not So Stoic: Despite her usually unflappable demeanor she expresses genuine sadness at the death of King Masura and how his friendship with Seiten would indirectly save her life.
  • Pint-Sized Powerhouse: Being an imp she only stands around 112 cm tall, despite this, she is surprisingly durable and strong for someone her size.
  • Whip of Dominance: She's a stern guard who fights and controls monsters with her whip. And despite her size, she can be quite ruthless and intimidating, and often uses her whip to strangle the people who annoy her.

Ibara Town

    Saran Blade
The ace of Ibara Town, he and his party were sent to deal with the Named in Kodama Mountain.
  • Break the Haughty: By the end of the Kodama Mountain arc, he's humbled by his defeat at Kikuru's hands and the weight of the crimes he and his party committed.
  • Evil Counterpart: To Kikuru. He represents what kind of person Kikuru would be if he let his skills and position as the ace go to his head and didn't care for other people.
  • Extreme Mêlée Revenge: The victim of this, courtesy of Kikuru. Whereas his comrades suffered broken fingers and severed ligaments (and later beaten by San), Kikuru completely breaks all of Saran's limbs as punishment for his actions.
  • The Fighting Narcissist: Saran is conceited and over-confident in his skills. He believes that the ace is supposed to survive and is willing to sacrifice others because his ego wouldn't allow him to die. He also thinks that as the ace, he is most suited to save lives, so those unimportant can die.
  • Heel Realization: After the incident at Kodama Mountain is resolved, Saran realizes his mistakes and how arrogant he's been, for which he apologizes for the trouble he's caused.
  • Kick the Dog: He and his comrades do this to Hanabata when they purposely paralyze her and leave to her die fighting King Masura. They pay for this dearly.
  • Magic Knight: His class. He can use sword skills and magic inherited from his parents. Unfortunately for him, it means nothing to Kikuru.
  • Only in It for the Money: He and his party members tried to kill a sentient Non-Malicious Monster simply because Named monsters pay a lot of money.
  • Pretty Boy: He's quite dashing compared to his gangly and brutish party members.

    Racob Udepsin
The Warrior of Saran's party.
  • Attempted Rape: If not for Kikuru's arrival, he would have raped Maidena. In addition to leaving Hanabata for dead, his idiocy in attempting the deed lands him and his party in serious trouble with the authorities especially since Maidena is considered a holy maiden with said crime possibly causing humanity to lose access to white magic.
  • The Brute: He's the biggest party member, and has the personality to match.
  • Fatal Flaw: He has a tendency to not think his actions through. For instance, his overacting when pushing Hanabata in the way of Zuso's curse made their intentions too obvious and further implicated him and his party to the authorities. Also, his Attempted Rape of Maidena, a holy maiden, would've caused humanity to lose access to recovery magic.
  • Only a Flesh Wound: Subverted while he is still conscious after Kikuru cuts his elbows, it still hurts like hell and makes him unable to move his arms.

    Zuso Kokumari
The Curse User of Saran's party.
  • Attack Reflector: Has a skill the reflects magic effects back at the user.
  • The Dark Arts: As a Curse User, his skills revolve around casting curses on a target.
  • Jerkass: Like his teammates, he isn't a good person. He might be the most unpleasant between the three of them.
  • Fingore: Kikuru breaks all his fingers to prevent him from casting curses.

    True Nishiki
The new ace of Ibara Town who was promoted after Saran and his party were arrested. He's partnered with the local god Shock and is acquainted with San Hoshi.
  • Defeat Means Respect: He beats up Hyudai Kinz when Shock provokes him, convincing him and the other adventurers that he's indeed worthy of being The Ace.
  • Redeeming Replacement: For Saran, who was a narcissistic bastard who would endanger others in order to get all the glory, while True has no problem calling him out.
  • Super-Toughness: She takes a blow Hyudai Kinz to the face and is barely faced. He does complain that such a blow would have killed a normal person.

Monsters

    In General
  • Lecherous Licking: They do this to take Mana from humans, preferably women.
  • Magic Eater: They primarily subsist on Mana, and their preferred method of doing so is to take it from female guards.
  • Orifice Invasion: If it has tentacles, vines or the sort, you can bet the monster will shove it into the girl's mouth.
  • Skewed Priorities: They'll often forget about everything else once they get their claws on prey. It leads to their deaths more often than not.

    Named
Evolved monsters that are smarter and stronger than the norm.
  • The Dreaded: Taking these things on is not an easy task. Kikuru was rightfully nervous to try fighting the Repel Spider.
  • Nominal Importance: It's been pointed out Named are indeed more powerful and dangerous than average monsters.
  • It Can Think: These monsters are smarter than the average monster and can even strategize, which makes them all the more dangerous. Some are even capable of human speech.

    King Mashura
A Named Double Monkey inhabiting Kodama Mountain, who started killing guards.
  • Always Someone Better: While he knows he can destroy a village by himself, he knows full well that a guard strong enough to kill him would come such as Tohru.
  • Anti-Villain: He started killing guards out of revenge for them unjustifiably killing members of his kind, who posed no threat to humans due to him ordering them to stay in their area.
  • Lonely at the Top: Due to his strength and intelligence, he did not have a true place among others of his kind.
  • Sizeshifter: He is able to make himself three times bigger.
  • Worthy Opponent: He acknowledges Kikuru as a worthy opponent due to how much the guard manages to push him to the limits through sheer tactics and combat pragmatism.

Other

    Zenith (Unmarked Spoilers!)
The god responsible for giving humanity their skills and Enome's absent husband.
  • Casanova Wannabe: He is a huge flirt that hits on every female he sees despite being married, but is always rejected. His only success with Enome came due to hitting on her for 10 years.
  • Mind Rape: He tries to inflict this on Kikuru with Trauma, but ends up inflicting this on Enome instead, who then dreams about being molested by monsters.
  • No-Respect Guy: Invoked, in order to stop people from claiming to be descendant, it was also added that he is a huge womanizer, which also causes the entire cast including his own daughter to have no respect for him.
  • The Omniscient: He claims to have this when trying to hit on Maidena. However, it turns out to not be completely true since he became weaker due to the weakened faith humanity has in him.
  • Only One Name: Due to being a god, he only has one name since they do not have the need to distinguish amongst themselves like humans.

    Punpuku Chanoma
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/futoku_no_guild_12.jpg
A Tanuki Acrobat girl from Kaboku Village who is searching for aid in dealing with a Local God that's threatening her village.
  • Cute Little Fangs: Like Hitamuki she also has a snaggletooth to emphasize her cuteness.
  • Did Not Think This Through: She really didn't consider what whould happen if she ate food at a restaurant without money to pay, thinking just doing juggling and apologizing would be enough. If it wasn't for Mishelly she would have suffered greatly at the hands of a very angry old lady.
  • Little Bit Beastly: She's a Tanuki beastman, and has the ears and tail of a raccoon dog.
  • Older Than They Look: She might look like a middle-schooler, but as an official guard she's at least 18 years old.
  • Verbal Tic: She tends to end her sentences with "pon", making her sound cutesy.
