    Aries Knights

Stella Marie (Stella)

Voiced by: Akane Fujita
Class: Paladin
Element: Water (Base) / Fire (Memories)
Idola: Aries (EP1) / Aquarius (EP2)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/idola_phantasy_star.jpg
Stella

The Heroine of IDOLA EPISODE 1 and the leader of the Aries Knights. A timid but surprisingly strong girl, she leads the Aries Knights with conviction on their mission to protect the world from the threat of the Idola. Stella is the latest inheritor of the Aries Idola, a Fire-elemental Idola passed down through her lineage.

Ulysses (Uly)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/show.png

Voiced by:
Class: Brave
Element: Any (Determined by player) / Earth (Gratitude)
Idola: None / Polaris

The Protagonist of IDOLA EPISODE 1 who partially fills the role of Player Character throughout the story. Uly is the son of Theseus, one of the famous Argonauts who defended Vandor from Dark Falz 20 years in the past. Formerly a sailor, Uly is recruited into the ranks of the Aries Knights when his ship is attacked by a Cetus, and joins the crew in hopes of tracing his father's footsteps.

  • Elemental Rock-Paper-Scissors: Gratitude Uly is unique in that his normal attacks and Elemental Blast bypass this system completely to always deal a Weak Hit against whatever it hits.
  • Running Gag: Shirts with Japanese kanji on them.
  • Weapon of X-Slaying: His Elemental Blasts deal 50% more damage against Idolas.

Rosalinde

Voiced by:
Class: Knight
Element: Fire (Base) / Wind (New Years)
Idola: Leo

One of the four main characters of EPISODE 1. Rosalinde is one of Siegmund's four children and bears the title of Imperial Princess as a result. She is an inheritor of the Leo Idola, a giant humanoid lion that uses fierce might to crush its foes. Due to her upbringing in a Law-dominated region, she initially shows a great deal of distrust and contempt for Jasper and his motley crew of Chaos bandits, but gradually warms up to him and learns to soften her world views.

  • 10-Minute Retirement: At the end of EP1 and through the first two Records of EP2, Rosa is forced to leave the Knights due to succeeding her father as Empress of Leoria and her relationship with them is reduced to being strictly professional (except for when she sneaks out of the kingdom). After Canceed pulls a All Your Base Are Belong to Us and Rosa narrowly avoids being taken, Rosa rejoins the Knights to help stop Canceed's plans from causing more harm.
  • Action Initiative: Her New Years variant has a unique normal attack that has a priority effect. This can be combined with certain Symbols to give her a one-up on opponents that would normally have a stat advantage over her.
  • An Ice Person: Her Christmas variant predominantly uses ice-themed attacks despite still being a Fire character.
  • Improbable Weapon User: Her Chaos New Years variant wields a giant sword-sized calligraphy brush.
  • Official Couple: A good chunk of EPISODE 1 is a relationship sub-plot with Jasper.
  • Royal Rapier: Her typical weapon, befitting of an Imperial Princess. It later upgrades to the Divine Sword Lionel, which is ultimately used to slay Dark Falz.

  • Trauma Conga Line: The entire second half of EPISODE 1 is mostly just Rosalinde being put through the wringer. Not only is her father murdered in cold blood by Erwin, Erwin then becomes Dark Falz, who then turns her other siblings (and Barnabas) against her and the Aries Knights are forced to kill all three of them. Then Dark Falz besieges her home country with Idola, then when the heroes gain the upper hand against Dark Falz, Erwin pulls a Heroic Sacrifice to end it all, killing her last remaining living relative in the process.

Jasper

Voiced by:
Class: Berserker
Element: Wind (Base) / Fire (EX)
Idola: Gemini

One of the four main characters of EPISODE 1. Jasper is part of a roaming crew of bandits who live their lives free as the wind, at least until the Aries Knights show up. Defeated by the Knights in combat, Jasper and his bandits agree to join the crew. While Jasper can appear to be a bit knuckleheaded and rough around the edges, he possesses an alternate personality who expresses a different side of him, a side effect of inheriting the Gemini Idola from his father.

The Warrior

Voiced by: None
Class: Brave
Element: Any (Determined by player)
Idola: Polaris Nova

A mysterious figure who crash landed in Vandor after traveling through space. Awakening from Cold Sleep, they are tasked by their Partner Mag "New" to stop the resurrection of Dark Falz, in the process allying themselves with the Aries Knights, who have prior experience with the task at hand. For reasons unknown, Giselle refers to The Warrior as her "destined person", and appears to bear a connection with them.

  • Character Customization: To a limited extent; you can name them, choose which gender you want them to be, and choose their Element.
  • The Chosen One: Giselle seems to think so, at least.
  • Hello, [Insert Name Here]: The given name of The Warrior is the same as the one you choose for your in-game profile during account creation.
  • Human Popsicle: Long-term space travel necessitates this, using the same Cold Sleep technology used by ARKS. They are awoken shortly before their arrival on Vandor.
  • Jiggle Physics: The female Warrior has a quite-noticeable breast jiggle during her Elemental Blast animation.
  • Latex Space Suit: The female Warrior wears one that defines her bust and hips quite well.
  • Palette Swap: Their Idola, Polaris Nova, is a black-colored version of Polaris with nearly all of the same moves.
  • Player Character: They fill this role in EPISODE 2.
  • Robot Buddy: They are accompanied by a Mag named "New". The similarity to Pai is immediately apparent when the two meet for the first time.
  • Silent Protagonist: They are completely mute except during a Dialogue Tree.

Giselle

Voiced by: Manaka Iwami
Class: Striker
Element: Fire
Idola: Andromeda G-Type

The Heroine of EPISODE 2. Formerly an ally of the northern country of Canceed, Giselle runs away from her home to be with The Warrior, who she claims is her "destined person". When the Aries Knights arrive to protect her from Canceed forces attempting to recapture her, she joins with the party to stop Canceed and their schemes.

  • Contrasting Sequel Main Character: Giselle is mechanically the polar opposite of Stella, being a Chaos-aligned Fire heroine who specializes in defensive and support buffs compared to Stella's offensive and healing buffs.
  • Defector from Decadence: Giselle defects from Canceed to be with the Warrior. Dialogue from her former compatriots suggests that she's run away multiple times before, but she usually gets caught and simply agrees to return home. With the help of the Warrior and the Aries Knights, however, she's making her stay permanent this time.
  • Latex Space Suit: Despite what it appears, she isn't wearing leggings under her dress, but actually one of these. She discards the dress and reveals the suit as Law FD, while she gains a red suit instead as Chaos FD.
  • Limited Wardrobe: Funny enough, her model does not change to reflect her Fate Divergence, unlike every other character in the game.
  • Magic Knight: Giselle has powerful Area of Effect damage and strong defensive/support effects rolled into one.
  • Mechanically Unusual Fighter: She is the first character in the game with an evolving Elemental Blast; its power and effects depend on how much Element you have when the EB is cast. You can combine this with her unique Cost Reduction buff to fire off two Elemental Blasts in a row.
  • Palette Swap: Her Idola is just a red Andromeda with a slightly modified design.

Popona

Voiced by: Popona
Class: PR Agent
Element: Wind
Idola: None

The super-happy and upbeat face of the Aries Knights, who acts as their self-proclaimed "public relations" manager. Initially following the Aries Knights from the shadows, she eventually reveals herself to Uly during his quest to seek higher power, and officially joins the Knights for real. She is "accompanied" by her best friend, Hatosuke, who is more or less just a hand puppet that Popona gives a voice.

Popona is played by her real-life counterpart, the game's official "Virtual YouTuber" Popona, who delivers regular news on the game through weekly videos and streams with the game's staff. She also participates in miscellaneous activities, such as a virtual meet-and-greet in PSO2 and story reading.

  • Breaking the Fourth Wall:
    • Rather than contemplating on the events of her Bond Story as other characters typically do, Popona's Fate scenes have her talking to the player about the actual in-game progress of her Bond Story, such as remarking about finally getting her own Bond Story after clearing the first chapter.
    • Her Neutral A Chapter also has her engaging in a bit of He Knows About Timed Hits, confusing Sasha and Phuramy in the process.
  • Damage-Increasing Debuff: Popona has the unique distinction of having a normal attack that reduces the enemy's resilience to damage, bolstering her teammates' damage. Her Neutral A Elemental Blast can also inflict this type of debuff.
  • Dream Intro: The first chapter of her Bond Story opens with her being surrounded by adventurers, apparently extremely popular with them. Then Sasha wakes her up and it's revealed that she fell asleep while doing paperwork.
  • Exotic Eye Designs: Popona gains star-shaped pupils in her Neutral B outfit.
  • Improbable Weapon User: Her hand puppet, Hatosuke, is used as her main method of attack, such as throwing him and summoning shurikens.
  • Leaning on the Fourth Wall: Some of her Bond Story dialogue features cheeky references to the gacha mechanics, such as hoping for a "rare pull" when heading off to a village to recruit adventurers.
  • Support Party Member: Unlike other Star Fes characters, Popona is fairly lackluster offensively and has comparatively more-average-than-usual stats for a Star Fes, but excels in boosting the damage output of her allies with a Damage-Increasing Debuff and percent damage boost effects. Neutral A allows her to double down on her support abilities, while Neutral B allows her to play more offensively by giving her a Pursuit-type buff and a Percent Damage Attack as a Limit Break.
  • Vague Age: Popona stops herself from revealing her age, causing Sasha to respond with some concern. She insists that she is at least legally old enough to consume alcohol.

Class: Elementor
Element: Fire
Idola: Leo

Erwin

Voiced by:

Element: Fire
Idola: Dark Leo

    The Resistance

Theatri

Voiced by:
Class: Joker
Element: Earth
Idola: Hydra

    Canseed

    ARKS / Stargate Corps

Phuramy

Voiced by: Eri Kitamura
Class: Bard
Element: Fire
Idola: Chamaeleon

A woman who traveled to Vandor through the Stargate, a mysterious portal that links space and time. Formerly known as Seraphy, an operator from Oracle and a close ally to Gene, traveling through the Stargate caused her to lose most of her memories. To seek answers about her past and why she was brought to Vandor, she joined with the Aries Knights and formed a new identity.

Following the events of EPISODE 1, Seraphy recovers her memories. Wishing to accompany Gene and her allies and figure out the truth of their arrival in Vandor, Seraphy leaves the Aries Knights and joins the Stargate Corps with her fellow ARKS members.

  • Foreshadowing: A ridiculous amount of it towards her true identity, especially in her Summer variant Bond Story. Double points for her Summer artwork being very similar to her Seraphy [Summer Vacation] Chip from es.
  • Stuff Blowing Up: Even after losing her memories, she retains her fondness for Launchers like in es, which she will replace her lute with in her Chaos FDs.
  • Support Party Member: Phuramy remains one of the only Fire Element dedicated healers in the game; the next closest would be Erwin, who skews more towards defense than being a dedicated healer.

Quna

Voiced by: Eri Kitamura
Class: Bard
Element: Wind (Base) / Water (Idol Series)
Idola: Chamaeleon

An idol singer famous across the Oracle Fleet. Despite her poppy outgoing appearance, Quna hides dark secrets from her past. Whisked to Vandor for reasons unknown, a fateful encounter with the Aries Knights leads to her deciding to use her powers to protect the world from yet another Dark Falz.

  • Idol Singer: Oracle's premiere idol, whose performances always manage to gather a crowd.
  • Mythology Gag: Her EP2 variant gives her her Phantasic QM outfit, based on a real life concert held in Japan with her and Matoi as performers.
  • Support Party Member: As one of the first units in the game, Quna is possibly the most vanilla support mage, being a dedicated healer who grants Regenerating Health and healing-related buffs. Her Chaos variant skews more towards Combat Medic, but her damage output is middling at best even in this form.

Gene

Voiced by: Sora Amamiya
Class: Brave
Element: Wind
Idola: Chamaeleon

The Heroine of Phantasy Star Online 2es. A young girl with an affectionate and outgoing personality, Gene makes up for her lack of combat skill and unstable Photon ability with sheer enthusiasm and willpower. Traveling through the Stargate caused her to lose some of her memories, but to save the world Gene decides to join with the Aries Knights.

  • Artificial Human: Gene is actually a Weaponoid, a type of Photon-derived humanoid manifestation of weapons created by ARKS' EMA division. Her lack of control over Photons compared to other ARKS is due to her existence as a partial Weaponoid of a shattered Genesis Weapon.
  • Call-Back: The color schemes for her Fate Divergences are based on Roto Raut, the Genesis Weapon that was used to create her.
  • Mighty Glacier: Gene is terribly slow, but her DEF stat is absurdly high.
  • Stripperific: Possibly the most infamous case in all of IDOLA; her Chaos FD outfit is ridiculously Fanservice-laden even by this game's standards.

Luther

Voiced by: Takahiro Sakurai
Class: Photoner
Element: Wind
Idola: None

One of the last Photoners and the creator of ARKS. Luther remains a mysterious anomaly, brought to Vandor in his Omegan form and seemingly lacking his memories from his past self. Seeking answers, Luther travels across the world in hopes of finding a way back home, but his journey might just give him more than he bargained for.

  • The Drifter: At the end of his Law path, he becomes a traveling information dealer, hoping to regale Vandor with his vast knowledge to anyone willing to listen.
  • Light Is Not Good: His Chaos FD is based on his original EP2 self, who is most definitely a villain.
  • Lightning Bruiser: One of the best in the game, in fact: his base SPD is astronomical and his Skills hit like a freaking truck. Plus points for having an Action Initiative Skill on top of all that mess.
  • Mana Drain: His Law FD gains a Skill that saps 2 Element from his target and adds it to his own.
  • Story Branch Favoritism: His Chaos FD story is more tightly developed than his Law FD story and directly ties into the main plot (despite being supposedly non-canon).

Matoi

Voiced by: Satomi Sato
Class: Guardian
Element: Water
Idola: None

The Heroine of Phantasy Star Online 2 and one of Oracle's "Guardians". Once known as "Klariskrays II", an incident from her past caused her to lose her memories, but the support of a certain someone allowed her to shape her life anew. Brought to Vandor through the Stargate, she meets with Clemence and Mint, who teach her the ways of the world, and now awaits the successor of the Polaris Idola in hopes of guiding him to his destiny.

  • Dark Is Not Evil: Much like her EP3 self, she primarily uses Dark Techniques, such as Megid and Namegid.
  • Mundane Made Awesome: All of her Elemental Blasts are just normal Photon Arts and Techniques that are portrayed as being massively destructive and powerful in this game compared to their original PSO2 counterparts.

Risa / Harriet

Voiced by: Kana Hanazawa (Risa) / Megumi Han (Harriet)
Class: Ranger
Element: Fire
Idola: None

The Class Trainer for the Ranger and Gunner classes on the Oracle fleet. Risa's past is shrouded in mystery; she is rumored to be one of the first CASTs ever created by ARKS, but the conversion process corrupted her original personality as a side effect. During the events of EPISODE 5, Risa came under ownership of a Genesis Weapon containing the soul of Harriet Line Layna Cuent, who now resides within Risa as an alternate personality. Like many of her fellow Oracle allies, Risa is sent to Vandor through the Stargate, and now must decide whether to join the Aries Knights or save the world on her own terms.

  • Ax-Crazy: Her base personality is... unhinged, to say the least.
  • Death from Above: The Satellite Cannon skill fires orbital strikes on enemies when an enemy casts a buff.
  • Color-Coded Characters: Her Tron Lines and eyes are normally red, but become blue when Harriet is in control.
  • Late-Arrival Spoiler: Her existence in IDOLA spoils a major plot twist from the ending of EPISODE 5.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: Getting on her bad side is a very bad idea. And it's not that hard to get on her bad side.

    Miscellaneous Characters

Rogia

Voiced by:
Class: Shooter
Element: Fire
Idola: Cetus

The owner of Astarte, a popular bar within the heart of the Kingdom of Leonis. Rogia welcomes his bar to any and all customers, regardless of their affiliation, and especially welcomes the company of the Aries Knights. He's more than willing to share a few tips and tricks with Uly.

Vanessa

Voiced by:
Class: Dancer
Element: Fire
Idola: Lupus

A waitress hired by Rogia to run the floor in Astarte. Her particularly striking appearance and friendly demeanor makes her extremely popular with the customers.

Wyndis

Voiced by:
Class: Wizard
Element: Wind (Base) / Water (EX)
Idola: Gemini

An inheritor of the Gemini Idola and Jasper's sister. A survivor of a raid on her home island by the forces of Leonis in her childhood, Wyndis remained on the island in the wake of the travesty to help the survivors rebuild. A chance reunion with her brother leads to Jasper discovering the truth of what happened to his family all those years ago.

  • Black Mage: Par for the course for her Class, although her usage of magic is a bit less direct than other cases.
  • Blow You Away: Her brand of magic, and possibly the most vanilla case among Wind Element casters. Her EX variant doesn't change this even though she is a Water unit.
  • Idol Singer: Her Bond Story has her trying to learn how to become an idol like Quna. In later Bond Stories, she shows up as an actual idol, most notably in Popona's Bond Story where she (inadvertently) steals away potential recruits for the Aries Knights by holding a concert.
  • Male Gaze: Her Chaos Summer variant gives the camera a good long look at her swimsuit body before she starts hammering the enemies.
  • Me's a Crowd: Just like her brother, she can cast the Other Self buff on herself that summons her alternate personality to her side to deal double hits.
  • Older Than They Look: Wyndis is actually 20 years old, despite looking like a teenager. Sasha states that this is due to the presence of Wyndis β; Popona's response is insisting that all idols are eternally 17.
  • Wolverine Publicity: Promotional material for the game features Wyndis quite a bit despite her not actually being all that relevant to the main story. She was also the only character featured in PSO2's first IDOLA collaboration Scratch that isn't part of the main cast.

Lieze

Voiced by:
Class: Dancer
Element: Earth (Base) / Wind (EX)
Idola: Hydra

Wyndis' personal maid. Highly competent and composed, Lieze follows her mistress wherever she goes and attends to her every whim. Her calm and cool demeanor compliments her skill in combat.

Rappy

Voiced by: None
Class: Rappy
Element: Earth
Idola: None

The Mascot Mook of the Phantasy Star series, now Promoted to Playable. Belonging to a species of extra-dimensional critters that have appeared before the heroes of countless stories (only to be beaten for rare loot), this Rappy has joined the front lines and now uses its powers for good.

Lillimo

Voiced by: Unknown
Class: Grappler
Element: Earth
Idola: Chamaeleos

One of many creatures known only as "Lillipans", a race of rabbit-like beings that once inhabited the planet Lillipa, but are now found hiding in the vast deserts of Vandor. Like others of his race, Lillimo is adept with futuristic technology, and when the Aries Knights pass through his homeland, Lillimo is inspired to follow in their footsteps and do good for others.

    Collaboration Characters

Eren Jaeger

Voiced by: Yūki Kaji
Class: Survey Corps
Element: Fire
Idola: Eren Titan

The Protagonist of Attack on Titan. Eren is a brash, hot-headed young man who is surprisingly capable in combat, with the ability to transform himself into a powerful, gigantic humanoid creature known as a Titan. During a mission to guard Wall Maria, Eren and his compatriots are suddenly pulled through the Stargate due to the power of a strong wish. After accidentally rampaging at a nearby village in his Titan form, Eren meets the Aries Knights and agrees to join them to fulfill the wish and find a way home.

  • Late-Arrival Spoiler: Did you not know that he can transform into one of the very creatures he's sworn to destroy? You do now!
