# FireEmblemThreeHouses.TropesEToM: ElementalPowers: Downplayed. The magic system, unique within franchise, means that all characters can learn a certain amount of magic, with a character-specific spell list. Most characters' Reason spell lists consist of only one element — Byleth and Edelgard have Fire spells, Dimitri has Lightning, Claude has Wind spells, and so on.
# DiariesOfAMadman.TropesOToZ: TookALevelInBadass: Nav starts fairly low down on the scale, winning his fights out of luck more than anything else. Taya initially begins with almost no magical knowledge, understandably given her background. As the story progresses, she becomes an extremely powerful mage, with her abilities in battle magic — which turns out to be her talent — edging out Twilight's. Twilight is still far superior across the board, however.
# Characters.FirstToThirdEditionCoreClasses: Arcane healing is possible, but it's very inefficient compared to divine spells. Either by a spell that converts other spells into a small amount of healing, or taking damage from someone else and putting it on your self, or transferring it another target. Or the high level stuff like Limited Wish or Wish that can simply replicate almost any spell.
# Characters.RuneScapeBosses: Ahrim attacks exclusively with magic.
# VideoGame.PathOfExile: The BlackMage: Uses various Elemental Powers to bring down their enemy. Fire, Ice, Lightning, take your pick.
# Characters.OneForAll: FighterMageThief: The mage, specifically a BlackMage.
# Characters.FinalFantasyXVNoctisLucisCaelum: Closest thing this game has to one, since he's the only character with full access to offensive magical spells, as part of his royal abilities.
# Characters.ShinMegamiTenseiIV: The general consensus is that it's good to raise his Magic high and give him attacks of every element.
# Characters.WinxClubSpecialist: Literally.
# Characters.JumpForce: Dark Magician and Dark Magician Girl.
# DarkIsNotEvil.VideoGames: Sang started off as an evil warlock in his youth, but later on, he grew dissatisfied and split his evil self from his body, and seeks to make up for his past by working with the AMC Squad. His outfit is a primarily black robe with red highlights and a white pentagram-esque pattern on his back, and he uses a lot of dark magics and demonic weaponry in his arsenal. He becomes a much more heroic character after he and his allies defeat Le Sang in Egypt, however, and switches to a red cleric-esque outfit to signify this.
# Fanfic.Wardens: Apart from his unapologetic cruelty, Mairon favors using purely offensive and elemental spells in battle. He also has no qualms about friendly fire or collateral damage. After attacking the Black City in the Fade and encountering its "resident", Mairon now uses a more malicious and literal Black Magic that takes the form of a demonic dragon-pony.
# Characters.NiNoKuniIIRevenantKingdom: The most magic in the game and none of it is support oriented.Casting a Shadow: One of only two player characters to wield the Dark element in skills and spells (the other being Roland). His most powerful spell is Evenstar – the Darkness counterpart to Evan's Astra, and the strongest spell of said element.
# Characters.PathToNowhereFraud: Played with. At first glance, Etti seems to be a Sinner who is focused on raw damage output as her Ultimate, Game Master, is all about creating a Constellation in the target area and forming Celestial Bodies to continuously attack random enemies within range. Even her first passive called Accelerate Operation buffs her attack even more as whenever Etti's initial attribute is triggered, not only does her attack speed increase, but she can also cast extra Celestial Body (up to 4) next time using Game Master. The effect, however, will be removed after she casts Game Master once. It is only her second passive called Game Rules that provides buffs rather than raw damage as each enemy has a 5% probability of generating a Gem after they die throughout the battle. A Sinner can gain a buff for 12 seconds after stopping for a moment to pick up the three differently colored Gems.Red Gem increases attack speed. Green Gem reduces damage. Blue Gem increases magic damage.
# Characters.TheSecretWorldSolomonIslandNPCs: BadassTeacher: As the headmaster of Innsmouth Academy, badass credentials are required just to withstand the trauma, and Montag has them in spades. Not only is he still holding down the fort without a twinge of fear, but he also has first-hand experience of decapitating familiars with a shovel, and has a Filth-infected version of him that does battle with you in "The Vanishing of Tyler Freeborn."
# WesternAnimation.DonaldDuck: AdaptationalBadass: The Kingdom Hearts series of games paints Donald as a BlackMage and prominent ally to Sora. Exaggerated in Kingdom Hearts III where he casts Zetta Flare, the most powerful spell in the Final Fantasy series, albeit fainting right afterward.

# YMMV.ChronoCross: BaseBreakingCharacter: Guile is loved by many for some reasons: he looks badass with Power Floats, a powerful BlackMage, a versatile Fanfic Fuel, etc. However, Guile isn't safe from extremely scathing remarks for being a Flat Character, having a troublesome inverted element grid in the game plus low accuracy and slow stamina recovery, as well as his over-the-top flamboyant look. There's also the fact that he's still implied to be Magus, but the details are vague enough that he just comes across as a Magus wannabe.

# VideoGame.TrialsOfGuinevere: Lane and Cormac, a Wind Adept and Occultist, respectively. Both of them wield powerful offensive magic and disabling spells, and each possesses one spell that causes instant death.
# Characters.CrisTales: His main role is the party's first elemental attacker, using fire, water, and lightning.
# Characters.TriangleStrategyKingdomOfGlenbrook: All of her spells are built on either damaging the enemy, or letting your allies damage the enemy if they get attacked.
# VideoGame.LaTale: The Sorcerer class abandons all healing for damage.
# NotSoHarmlessVillain.VideoGames: Final Fantasy IX: Remember Zorn and Thorn, the annoying jester twins whose asses you handed to them in Disc 2? They're not twins. The resulting monster spams the more harmful status ailments (Virus and Venom) while also bombarding you with powerful black magic (notably Bio... which also inflicts Poison!), making for a surprisingly challenging - and satisfying - Climax Boss. note Particularly when one factors in that your dedicated Black Mage runs off before the fight, and your more offensive-based Summoner is currently mute and has a high chance of failing to cast her spells.

# Characters.ArkhamHorror: Used to be a great Hyperborean witch back in her past incarnation. Now, when her old enemies are after her again, her only chance of survival is to put her old power to use. In gameplay terms, she has the best Lore stat in the game (up to 6, tied with Harvey Walters and Diana Stanley), combined with reasonable Fight. Additionally, combat Spells receives a boost to their Combat bonus equal to a number of hands required to maintain them. If she passes her Personal Story, she gains an ability to freely retry a failed skill check on any Spell once per turn — which, naturally, she would use on combat spells.
# Characters.Dota2AgilityNToZ: Two of Shadow Fiend's skills are nukes, while the two other boost his right-click damage.

# Characters.FireEmblemPathOfRadianceGreilMercenaries: As a Mage, he kills his enemies with wind magic.
# Characters.FinalFantasyV: LadyOfBlackMagic: A graceful, feminine princess who qualifies if classed as a BlackMage or Summoner. It helps that she has the highest raw Magic stat in the party.
# WebVideo.URealmsLive: Almost all the Magical Classes are offensive, due to the Creator's dislike for healing, which he feels prolongs Gameplay too much. The Wizard Class is the most offense-oriented class in the game with extremely destructive spells, including Arcane Beam and Pyroblast.

# VideoGame.JimmyAndThePulsatingMass: SickeninglySweethearts: Andrew and Helga are very much in love and call each other sappy pet names all the time. # Characters.YinYang: ShoutOut: A recursive example: The original BlackMage was visually inspired by Orko, and this fic turns Orko himself into a master of Black Magic.

# Literature.TsukimichiMoonlitFantasy: Hibiki is a female take on the Stock Light-Novel Hero. A natural Genius Bruiser who found nothing at all challenging in her homeworld, Hibiki nevertheless remains essentially The Paladin even after being brought to this world. Noble, courageous and skilled, Hibiki seeks to enact social change for the better gradually through progressive reform. Her party is very conventional being a Damager, Healer, Tank combination of a White Magician Girl, a BlackMage, a Stone Wall fighter and a Lightning Bruiser warrior. A member of the Limian royal family secretly fights within Hibiki's party out of love for her. Hibiki fights as part of the vanguard in her party but is versatile enough to drop into any role that is required in battle.

# FinalFantasyX.TropesAToC: Lulu is your BlackMage, specializing in offensive magic and ways to make it more effective. Oddly, she also has very strong defensive stats.
# VideoGame.TrialsOfMana: CombatAndSupport: In terms of starting classes, there's a focus on Combat: Duran, Kevin, Hawkeye and Riesz specialize on melee combat and have no MP-consuming Moves, while Angela and Charlotte take on BlackMage and White Mage duties respectively and have underwhelming physical damage output and Class Strikes. That said, once the class changes start hitting, everything goes out the window, with all four Combat characters able to take much more Balanced positions and supplement their fighting prowess with buffs, debuffs, and even (in the case of Kevin and Duran) healing magic. The one thing that never changes is that Angela and Charlotte don't get melee-oriented classes.
# Characters.TalesOfTheAbyss: AlmightyJanitor: Jade is a genius fonist, an amazing strategist, has more political connections than expected from someone originally of a "lowly" birth, and has the ear of the Emperor himself due to being Childhood Friends. Not to mention is trusted with highly classified and important missions. All that, and he refuses to be ranked higher than Colonel.
# Characters.FireEmblemAwakeningFirstGenerationFemales: As a Mage, Miriel can cast offensive magic.
# ComicBook.DemonSpawn: Nightflame and her demons.
# Characters.FinalFantasyXYuna: LightFeminineAndDarkFeminine: She's the light to Lulu's dark. Beyond their costume getup and general personality, their powers and abilities as a White Mage and a BlackMage further the contrasts.

# TabletopGame.FabulaUltima: The Elementalist is a magic class which focuses on blasting enemies with spells drawn from five of the game's elements, and they can learn skills which increase their spells' accuracy and lethality.
# Fridge.TheSpectrumGame: In general, Azurine, Iago, Valerie and Minori are more offense-oriented, while Silas, Inigo, Scarlett and Makoto are more support-oriented. This fits, considering the former four tend to have more aggressive or antagonistic personalities, while the latter four are more levelheaded and prone to supporting those around them.
# Characters.StickWar: Stick War 2's Magikill is a formidable offensive spellcaster that can deal massive area damage.
# VideoGame.LiveALive: The Middle Ages gives Oersted a balanced party with Streibough, Uranus, and Hasshe… until it gets chopped down to just Oersted after the first trip to Archon's Roost.

# TheFaceless.VideoGames: Several BlackMage classes throughout the series have had a wide-brimmed hat to mask their face in shadow, save for their glowing eyes. It started with the original Final Fantasy BlackMage, and lasted out to Vivi in Final Fantasy IX.The original Final Fantasy had the BlackMage show his face when he upgraded to the Black Wizard. More recent remakes have redesigned the Black Wizard to retain the iconic look. Lampshaded in Brentalfloss' Ballad of the Mages "I'm the BlackMage, but I bet you knew that Yellow eyes, my disguise, do you like my pointy hat?"
# Characters.ChainedEchoes: She has easily the best magic stat in the party, and can attack with any element.
# VideoGame.Destiny: The Voidwalker Warlock subclass, with a heavily offense-based skill tree and numerous area-effect abilities.
# CreatorsPet.Anime: Slayers has Pokota, a Bratty Half-Pint trapped in a Ridiculously Cute Critter form and who has an angsty backstory. His personality was said to be based on a character who appeared later on in the Light Novels. This might not have been so bad (though he IS still annoying), but Pokota just so happens to be a BlackMage on par with Lina Inverse and a Magic Knight wielding a replica of the Sword of Light. These two things, plus his bratty behavior and the fact that the plot of Slayers Revolution all but revolves around him definitely makes him a contender for being a Creator's Pet. The worst thing is that while many "guest stars" in the Slayers anime do share similar traits (Filia could be annoying and Xellos has Story-Breaker Power), Pokota largely isn't *funny* in a comedy show and yet gets a lot of screen time, a strong sign of a Creator's Pet.
# ShoutOut.MagicalCircleGuruGuru: Final Fantasy Kukuri's cat hood that she wears while in Alahabica resembles those of a White Mage's, specifically, the Devout's from Final Fantasy III. Kukuri's old staff resembles that of a BlackMage's. Nike and Kukuri occasionally rides a big bird that looks like Chocobos. but with bushy, purple hair on top of their heads.

Necromancers from the Elsweyr update use positioning around dead mobs and allies to strengthen abilities.

# SoYouWantTo.WriteADarkFantasy: Magic – it is fantasy we speak of, after all. It is not strictly necessary to do anything specific with magic in your story, but it's got a great potential. Many Dark Fantasy stories, as you would imagine, take the opportunity. There's a reason tropes like Magic Is Evil and Black Magic exist. He's apparently so good that the Night Witch herself is impressed at the end of it all. The Germans had squads called Werewolves to combat enemy magicians. Out of the party that forms around him, however (to his chagrin), he is easily the most competent. The arch priest goddess that was dragged with him to the MMO world is a certified idiot who retains none of her divine powers, but all of her bluster. The arch wizard is a little girl who knows a vastly powerful form of explosion magic, a single use of which leaves her incapacitated for several minutes, and nothing else. # Characters.PersonaOneLastPromise: He GeistTheSinEaters: Fittingly given their nature as revenge-oriented nature, their powers are primarily offensive-oriented; two of their Affinity Haunt, the Rage and the Curse, are about inflicting damages and bringing bad luck respectively, and they get additional benefits from buying the Retribution merit, which increases their fighting prowess when they seek revenge.
# YMMV.ChronoCross: BaseBreakingCharacter: Guile
is even mentioned as loved by many for some reasons: he looks badass with Power Floats, a mage powerful BlackMage, a versatile Fanfic Fuel, etc. However, Guile isn't safe from extremely scathing remarks for being a Flat Character, having a troublesome inverted element grid in the narration.

# FinalFantasy.TropesEToH: ExploitedImmunity: Most games usually have spells which target everyone and require this trope to use properly; In Final Fantasy VI, there are many different enemies that will attack the entire battlefield, including themselves, with powerful attacks. However, as they are either immune to the elements of those attacks or actually gain health from them, the disadvantages of these attacks are lost. This can also be done with playable characters, by equipping them with elemental immune items. In Final Fantasy IX: Vivi's most powerful spell is Doomsday, which inflicts shadow damage on all allies and enemies on the field. Equipping your

# StatingTheSimpleSolution.VideoGames: In Octopath Traveler II, Hikari gets locked in a jail cell at one point, and one of his captors proceeds to let him out so he can go talk to the person he was looking for. A travel banter available immediately afterwards has Osvald disappointed by this, because he'd been planning an overly-complex escape method using the salt in any food they might've gotten to wear out the cell's bars. After stating that would take too long, Hikari points out that Osvald could've just used magic to destroy the bars instead.

# Characters.EldritchHorror: She has high staring Lore, and can additionally amplify it by sacrificing Health to rolle extra dice; in combination with her already high Health, this makes her go-to choice for offensive spell-caster. Her personal story further encourages her to go on offensive; however, she must be careful, as the failing condition is her losing too much Health.

# Characters.EpicSevenCollaboration: Dizzy is currently the best de-buffer in the game, and is an extremely versatile Mage who can be built with attack-damaging equipments to further enhance her farming capabilities in PvE since all of her skills deal damage to all enemies. # RagtagBunchOfMisfits.Literature: The main character of KonoSuba used to be a shut-in with no useful skills, talents or prospects in the real world. When he turned into an MMO world style adventurer, he retained most of his general uselessness — not only does he start at level 1, but his stats are below-average and his class is basic and underpowered. And the sword-wielding female crusader wears heavy armor and has enormous strength and stamina, allowing her to take inhuman amounts of punishment in battle (which she enjoys very much), but cannot actually hit a target herself.

More recent remakes have redesigned the Black Wizard to retain the iconic look. has an angsty backstory.
# Characters.YakuzaLikeADragonTheHeroesOfTomorrow: He has the highest base Magic stat in the party and has access to numerous, powerful offensive Magic skills. This also makes him the best character to recast as a Musician, Host or Fortuneteller.
# Characters.NiohGuardianSpirits: Hi-nezumi's passive effects are themed around using Onmyōdō, granting it a power boost, as well as a chance to not consume spells.

Kamek's third and final battle has him generate three magic-imbued clones of himself: a red one that focuses on attacking, a green one that applies defensive buffs, and a white one that heals its teammates, just like the colored Magikoopas from Paper Mario.
# Characters.TriangleStrategyKingdomOfGlenbrook: All of her spells are built on either damaging the enemy, or letting your allies damage the enemy if they get attacked.

# Characters.PillarsOfEternityPartyMembers: If selected, her Sorcerer (Wizard/Druid) multiclass combination of Wizard (Conjurer) and Druid (Animist) gives her access to both the wizard's most powerful crowd control spells and the druid's AOE damage spells. Being a Loremaster (Wizard/Chanter) gives her access to Summon Magic instead. Both can still be built in more of a support/healing/melee combat capacity, of course.
# Webcomic.CrystalHeroes: Isaac, though he seems to prefer the term "elemental mage."Playing with Fire: During the actual battle sequence, his two main skills are Fire, and Shimmer, which is a Damage Over Time burn spell (and which is largely useless in the first battle, since the Book Swarms don't have that much HP and you are better off destroying them quickly with Fire or Ice.) In the second battle, he also gains Fire 2, which is his most powerful offensive spell, though it'll burn through his MP quickly as well, and since there's only one mana restoration item left, you better not give it to anyone else! An Ice Person: Isaac has an Ice skill as well, which is a Herd-Hitting Attack. It's useful in the first battle against the two Book Swarms (he'll deal 6 damage to both instead of 9 to one), but irrelevant in the second, where there's only one boss.

# Awesome.FinalFantasyXIVLegacyARealmReborn: Facing off against the Crystal Tower as a Summoner or a BlackMage is doubly cathartic for very different reasons. If you fight as a Summoner then you are avenging all your predecesors who were persecutted for crimes many of them did not commit in the face of a hyppocritical empire who was commiting even worse attrocities. If you fight as a BlackMage then you are fulfilling your long forgotten obligation of defending the Realm from the forces of the Void, even managing to defeat a Sovereign in the form of the Cloud of Darkness.

# Characters.EpicSevenStarGenealogy: She's a mage who specializes mostly in debuffs and offensive spells. Tenebria can soften the enemies with her ultimate skill, or send an enemy to sleep and make them vulnerable to critical attacks with her basic skill. Even if her second skill is a straightforward Combat Readiness and Speed reduction for the enemy party, it's great for keeping them at bay and for her own team to have more turns than usual. She can also inflict the Sleep status ailment in her basic attack, which guarantees a critical hit for 1 turn.
# Characters.RagnarokOnline: Going by definition. Mages utilize multiple elements - Fire, Water (in the form of ice spells), Wind and Earth - and base spells start out as Bolts (except for Earth, which comes in the form of stone armour).
# Characters.StarVsTheForcesOfEvilEclipsaButterfly: In what might be a case of Crippling Overspecialization, many of her spells are either stupefyingly destructive or inflict Status Effects capable of inducing Anti-Regeneration, creating emotional distress, tying people into a pretzel and even an Unholy Nuke so dangerous that it has to be locked away in the Spell Dimension for fear of it destroying the entire universe. It's even worse when you realize that many of her spells she either invented purely for experimentation and she doesn't even know how to undo them.

Gragas Caskbreaker, the Cleric, though he's new to Rift Quest and prefers drunkenly fighting dragons, for better or for worse. Jayce Brighthammer, The Paladin, who has inexplicably mastered both science and engineering. Ryze Whitebeard, the Wizard. Varus Swiftbolt, the Archer. Veigar Greybeard, the Black Wizard. Barbarian Sion, the Barbarian. Lord Mordekaiser, the Dark Paladin.
# Characters.DragonAgeMerrill: Merrill is extremely nice, kind, and adorable. She is also a practicing blood mage, a demon summoner, the only mage in the party who has no healing spells, and access to at least half a dozen spell trees full of hideous death in flavors ranging from 'mass human flambe' to 'torn apart by Eldritch tentacles' to 'I will punch you in the soul!' Merrill: May the Creators have mercy on you, I certainly won't!

They can advance into: Bishops, advanced support class that can use offensive light magic as well, Monks: close-combat fighters with the advantage of clerics; and Servants, a full pledged support class that is completely dependent on a tank or nuker ally.
# Webcomic.Memoria2010: As a continuation of the MOTHER series, many classic staples from the games show up here, though several come with a twist:Harriet is a female PSI adept with primarily offensive techniques, though in this case, she's also the main protagonist. Matty is a male PSI adept with primarily healing and support techniques, though he's not the main protagonist. PK Songbird is a devastatingly powerful PSI move named after the user's favorite thing, though it's wielded by Harriet, whereas PK Rockin' and PK Love were used by the otherwise support-based Ness and Lucas. The flames from the towers act much like the eight melodies and the seven needles, acting as a goal for the protagonists that also grant them stronger PSI abilities. Clad In Rad act as the famous band much like The Runaway Five and DCMC, down to pulling a Big Damn Heroes moment and suddenly arriving out of nowhere to help the party defeat a seemingly insurmountable foe.

# SequentialBoss.RolePlayingGame: Seymour Guado's first fight against the party is one of these. First he starts as a Flunky Boss (said flunkies have the annoying habit of tossing Hi-Potions when anyone on their side is hurt) who will constantly cast powerful — for that point — elemental magic on your party, then he'll whip out Anima once the flunkies are dead and he's at 50% HP, and once she's dead, he'll start using the -ga level spells, which are a guaranteed One-Hit Kill on anyone who isn't Lulu or using Nul-Spells. According to White Mage, here's what happened after BlackMage became the ruler of hell and gained limitless power: White Mage: Did you feel that? Black Belt: What? White Mage: A great disturbance in the order, as if millions of voices cried out to say "Oh shit." She can also inflict the Sleep status ailment in her basic attack, which guarantees a critical hit for 1 turn.

PK Songbird is a devastatingly powerful PSI move named after the user's favorite thing, though it's wielded by Harriet, whereas PK Rockin' and PK Love were used by the otherwise support-based Ness and Lucas. # Characters.EpicSevenCollaboration: Dizzy is currently the best de-buffer in the game, and is an extremely versatile Mage who can be built with attack-damaging equipments to further enhance her farming capabilities in PvE since all of her skills deal damage to all enemies. One of the best sets for her is the "Rage" Set since she can basically melt an entire enemy team easily if she manages to land all of her CC effects. And if you managed to put Elphelt on the same team of whom she has a great synergy with, both of them can really put on a world of hurt.
# Characters.DuelSaviorDestiny: Lily not knowing any healing magic is a brief plot point between chapters five and six.
# Sandbox.JoJosBizarreAdventureThe7thStandUserPlayableCharacters: While she has equal physical attack potential, her true strength lies in her impressive Mind stat, which allows her to deal massive damage with her Ripple techniques.
# Literature.BraveStory: TheSmartGuy: Ropple, a Child Prodigy and the party's BlackMage.
And the sword-wielding female crusader wears heavy armor and has enormous strength and stamina, allowing her to take inhuman amounts of punishment in battle (which she enjoys very much), but cannot actually hit a target herself.
# Characters.TalesOfLegendia: The only playable crystal eren who learns no healing or support spells.
# Characters.FinalFantasyRecordKeeperIToVII: An offensive spellcaster focused on Witch abilities.
# Literature.TheWitchOfKnightcharm: Plenty of witches at the Scholomance fight by racking up damage with powerful spells. Notable examples include the necromancer twins Alejandra and Julia, the water-witch Amira, and the top student Morgan who crushes her opponents with magical shadows.
# VideoGame.DragonQuestV: CompetitiveBalance: The heavenly brides.Bianca is a Jack of All Stats Magic Knight, who learns the full Frizz and Sizz families of spells. Nera is a Squishy Wizard BlackMage, with less physical strength and health than Bianca, but access to the powerful Kaboom spell, which Bianca can't use. She even has Midheal for healing options. Debora is a Mighty Glacier White Mage, of all things, with only one offensive spell (Kasizz) but much higher physical stats than the other girls and more powerful weapon options.
# VideoGame.Wynncraft: The Shaman fits primarily into the Mage niche, but borrows elements from the Warrior, having the lowest Defense rating of all, and very high Damage, Range, and Spells ratings besides. It relies on its Totem and spells to pull off Difficult, but Awesome crowd-control combos that can turn large crowds of enemies into lunchmeat within seconds, and its Totem can also heal and strengthen nearby allies while also damaging nearby mobs.
# Characters.WildArms4: Skilled in offensive magic and ailment/debuff spells.
# VideoGame.OctopathTravelerII: A scholar imprisoned for the murder of his wife and daughter, who must escape prison and seek revenge against the man who framed him. Besides "Scrutinize," the chance-based version of Castti's level-based "Inquire," he can also "Mug" people at night, dueling them to get their possessions.
# AdaptationalBadass.VideoGames: <a title=: Donald Duck goes from a short tempered household name to a BlackMage who can cast Zetta Flare, and Goofy is a Badass Normal captain of the guard who fights just as well as the characters WITH magic. There's also Chip 'n Dale, who go from regular, Badass Normal Rescue Rangers to building inter-dimensional gunships. Minnie Mouse may also count, but we only get so little out of that Escort Mission in Kingdom Hearts II.
# VideoGame.MarioAndLuigiDreamTeam: After passing the first elevator in Neo Bowser Castle there are four coloured tiles, which are Yellow, Red, Blue and Green clockwise, the colours of the Super Nintendo controller (when viewed at a 90 degree angle). This is the only time these four colours are together, and the only time they're arranged as such.
# Fanfic.NetherworldNightmare: Caleb's Avenger Mode is pure offense, using Dark spells without any care to how much self-damage he gains from casting them.
# VideoGame.HeroesRise: MeaningfulName: A lot of heroes (and villains) give themselves one. For example, Black Magic is a BlackMage, Wintry is An Ice Person, Mach Girl has Super-Speed...
# VideoGame.Mother3: JokeItem: Lucas and Kumatora both can get the Fake Bat and Fake Frying Pan respectively, as nods to them being the successors of Ninten and Ana and Ness and Paula, due their roles as The Hero and The Smurfette who are the Combat Medic and BlackMage respectively. They even change their instrument sounds when they attack in battle, Lucas's becomes a Wooden Block, and Kumatoras' a Jaw Harp. However, these weapons are weak compared to what you should be equipped and are so expensive that it's not worth wasting your DP and inventory over. The doorknob.
# Characters.ReMonster: Sei is one of the few goblins that have learned magic and gained proficiency within the art, capable of casting fireballs destructive enough to incinerate several men at once.
# Characters.AJCO: The most violent and aggressive member of the crew, with a long list of magical spells and weapons to help him fulfill this role.
# Characters.MagicalCircleGuruGuru: She is this in ability, but a White Magician Girl in personality.
# Pantheon.WitchesAndWizards: Wizards-as-Magicians, Magician Detectives, Women Who Provide Fanservice, Lack of Secret Identity, Always Wearing Stocking Filler, Hot Witches, Escapists, Backward Magic Words, Being the Sorceress Supreme, Reality Bending Magic, Eccentric Performative Magician, Contemporary Magic User With Stage Magic as her Day Job, Primarily Offensive Magic
# Pantheon.VillainousPersonalitiesAndQuirks: Horny Succubi (Yes, very horny), Hyper Sex Appeal (of course), Intelligence Hero With Affinity To Kinky Evil Bondage, Nuking People Down, Super Screams, Short Cooldown Blinking, Dominatrix, Evil Action Sexy Ladies
# Literature.ProphecyApprovedCompanion: Definitely Bad Guy is very much on the fire and curses side.
# Characters.FightingFantasyAntagonistsDarkGods: She is one, and the source of power for all in Titan.
# Characters.Patapon: Oohoroc is explicitly called one, being a powerful damage dealer who only gets exponentially stronger the more dedicatedly you use a certain staff.
# Characters.FinalFantasyXIVScionsOfTheSeventhDawn: His class is Thaumaturge which has this as the job. Ironically, he (and Yda) are the Scions' representatives in Gridania, which is associated with White Magic and Conjury.
# VideoGame.UnisonLeague: The Archer, Lancer, Mage, and Berserker classes.
# Characters.CodeVeinRevenants: Her Blood Code, Harmonia, specializes in vaporizing targets with Dark Gifts that scale from the class' naturally high Willpower stat. Any Gifts that don't deal damage are instead focused on making sure the user can keep spamming spells and maintain their high DPS rate.
# Pantheon.GameCharacters: Black Magic, Powerful Elemental Versatility that Becomes Useless Later on, Bookworms, Idiotic Intellectuals, Believes that Knowledge must be Shared with Everyone, Nosy Scrutinization, Hot Teachers who are Inadvertently Attractive, Gentlemenly Scholars, Wizards who Can't Take a Punch, Scanning Enemies, Starting his Journey with a Series of Book Thefts, Terrible Singers, Workaholics
# Characters.KingdomHeartsOrganizationXIII: More or less combines the attributes of almost every single offensive magical class in Final Fantasy, along with the Scholar from Final Fantasy III.
# VideoGame.TomodachiLife: The class Independent Miis have in Tomodachi Quest. They come with a weak standard attack and fire magic that can be used up to six times that does about as much damage as a critical hit from any other class and can't miss. They carry a red-tipped staff.
# Characters.FireEmblemThracia776: MinidressOfPower: For certain definitions of the word "power", since she's an absurdly useful White Mage rather than the Action Girl that this trope normally entails or even a BlackMage.
# VideoGame.Destiny: The Voidwalker Warlock subclass, with a heavily offense-based skill tree and numerous area-effect abilities.
# Characters.BlazingSoulsAccelate: She can work effectively as this with her build.
# Characters.XenobladeChronicles3TheFounders: A purely offensive ether-based Attacker, whose abilities allow her to cast multiple debuffs on opponents.
# Characters.BlackCloverNoelleSilva: When Noelle learns Sea Dragon's Roar, Yami notes that she's an incredible attack mage even for her great latent abilities. Although she still uses her defensive spells, she makes the most of her magic when using it offensively.
# Trivia.FireEmblemShadowDragonAndTheBladeOfLight: This game started many of the Archetypes that would continue into future games such as the Jagen, Cain and Abel, Gordin, Ogma, Julian, Lena, Navarre, Merric, Maria, Minerva, Est, and Gotoh archetypes. It also is the origin of the Triangle Attack.
# VideoGame.FearMythosRPG: Omega.
# RenamedTropes.QToZ: WhiteMagicianGirl: healing. This led to serious overlap with such tropes as Healing Hands, The Medic, and White Mage. The rename clarified that it's a character trope and that it doesn't strictly require a staff. The new name also matches the trope's BlackMage counterpart, Black Magician Girl.
# PlayingWith.RookieRedRanger: Charles Dislikes the New Guy for taking what he believes to be his desired position so he tries to form a coup with BlackMage Stella and Rocky to throw him out of the Greats.
# Characters.LeagueOfLegendsThemesNToZ: All the characters are based on a common Fantasy Character Class:Bard Bard, The Bard, who's managed to turn the ancient art of song into a "reality-altering weapon of death". Braum Lionheart, the Knight. Rugged Garen (also known as "Handsome Garen"), the Warrior. Demolisher Nunu and Willump, the Soldiers. Nottingham Ezreal, handsome Rogue-Paladin Elf. Gragas Caskbreaker, the Cleric, though he's new to Rift Quest and prefers drunkenly fighting dragons, for better or for worse. Jayce Brighthammer, The Paladin, who has inexplicably mastered both science and engineering. Karthus Lightsbane, the Necromancer, making the rest of his party highly suspicious that he'll betray them, especially since it's not against the rules. Sejuani Dawnchaser, the Beast Rider.
# VideoGame.IrunaOnline: Magically oriented class. They can advance into wizards or clerics.Wizard: The specialist in offensive magic. They can advance further into: High Wizard: The elementalist who nukes the battlefield with powerful magic; Enchanters who uses magic to empower themselves and imbue their weapons with magic; Necromancer, the dark magic specialist and an undead summoner. Clerics: Supportive mages.
# Characters.ErinDiesAlone: Selects this class in Ultimate Saga VII despite Erin suggesting that he try a simpler class.
# Characters.DarkDeity: Alden, Sloane, Sara, Munroe, and Liberty's starting class is Mage, which can attack from close or far range with raw Arcane magic. However, with standard recruitment order, everyone from Sara on joins at a point when they have access to their Tier 2 classes, which are Magician, Arcanist, Conjurer, and Battlemage, the latter two wielding elemental damage.
# NinjaPirateZombieRobot.VideoGames: Aurora is a Fairy Princess Warrior. Rubella and Tristis are Acrobatic Elf Jesters. Finn is a Dwarf BlackMage. Robert is a Mouse Merchant Archer. Oengus is a Scotirish Yōkai Proud Warrior Race Guy. Genovefa is a Piscean Child Prodigy Musical Assassin.
# Film.SuckerPunch: NecessaryDrawback: Respectively, Blondie and Sweet Pea are Lightning Bruisers in melee and in guns. If they switch, they become Mighty Glaciers. Rocket is a Glass Cannon in guns, but is a Fragile Speedster in melee. Amber is practically a Squishy Wizard without piloting anything. But as for the machines that she pilots, the Mini-Mecha is a Lightning Bruiser, the B2-Bomber is a "BlackMage" and the Huey is a "Red Mage".
# Characters.ONE2019: In the ask blog, Viola reveals that she has a preference for magic.
# Characters.HeroesOfMightAndMagic: At least in V, Warlocks have a Chaos Magic affinity and possess vast destructive spellpower.
# Characters.FateGrandOrderCastersNToZ: Her skillset is designed to help her dish out as much damage as possible, sporting a Buster/Arts/Star Absorption buff, and an attack buff which also increases her damage against Demonic enemies. She also boasts the highest Attack stat among all 4* Casters, beating out the previous holders Nitocris and Marie Antoinette (Caster) by nearly 500 points.
# Characters.FinalFantasyXHeroes: She's the only character who doesn't have a hybrid class.
# Fanfic.EmbersVathara: WhiteMage: In the original series Katara very pointedly chose offensive waterbending over healing, which is then ignored for the rest of the series. In Embers this is even more significant, since throughout her childhood she was given the impression she was supposed to be the healer, and a failure because she wasn't, so she's not just defying the Northern Water Tribe's sexism when she makes the choice to fight but also her own feelings of insecurity and failure. Instead of becoming the healer despite almost no training in the show, her talents and interest lie in the other direction and will likely remain insistent on being the BlackMage. Her alternative candidate for healer training is Haru, since Toph is also violence-focused, not to mention more interested on what she can do with seawater.
# Characters.Avernum: Continuing on the analogy above, Sorcerers' bread and butter are highly damaging spells to cast upon their foes with deadly results.
# VideoGame.HeroicArmiesMarching: Pretty much every spellcaster, the Mad Wizard most notably.
# Characters.ImmoralGuild: BrilliantButLazy: Tokishikko is a genuinely skilled BlackMage, but she lacks motivation and is generally lazy.
# Characters.JourneyThroughTheMultiverse: One of George's jobs, the Black Mage, is this.
# Characters.Legionwood: His default class is the Magus, allowing him access to many elemental spells.
