Here are the character tropes for Yin-Yang. For the canon character tropes for the main She-Ra and the Princesses of Power, see here.

Main Characters

    Adam

Prince Adam of the House of Randor

The son of King Randor and the hero known throughout Eternia as He-Man.
  • Adaptational Jerkass: Compared to the All-Loving Hero and Nice Guy of the original cartoon, Adam here is far more cocky and arrogant, though he's more of a Jerk with a Heart of Gold than an out-and-out jerk.
  • Casanova Wannabe: One of the first things he does when he wakes up after being unconscious is try and flirt with Adora. Though to be fair, Adora has no interest in men what-so-ever. He also gives up flirting with her immediately after finding out she's gay. This trope ends up being subverted when he flirts with the Etherian princesses, as his charm works on them to the point where Perfuma and Mermista start fighting over him and Frosta can't do anything but stutter and faint.
  • Cool Sword: His main weapon is the legendary Sword of Power, which allows him to transform into He-Man.
  • Dumb Blonde: Inverted. Adam, while he is goofy and cocky, can be shockingly cunning, such as when he let himself get captured by the Spider Guild so that he and Adora could infiltrate their camp and rescue Battle Cat. He even comes up with a plan to get the Arcadian women off Bow's back, with Adora even calling him a "mad genius".
  • Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: Of the Jerk with a Heart of Gold variety. He's blonde and while certainly cocky and arrogant, he's dedicated to protecting Eternia and can always be counted on to do what's right.
  • Half-Human Hybrid: As his mother is from Earth, he's a hybrid of human and Eternian.
  • Headbutting Heroes: He and Bow do not get along. At first it's because of Bow's low tolerance for Adam's attitude, but then he starts insulting King Randor and the two just can't stand each other since.
  • Hidden Depths: He's a cocky goofball, but he's shown to take his duties as the Prince of Eternia remarkably seriously. When communicating with Queen Angela, he dropped his cocky demeanor and behaved far more composed and seriously when discussing matters involving the Horde.
  • How Do I Shot Web?: He had no idea the Sword of Power could shoot fire the first time he used it.
  • An Ice Person: The Sword of Power can freeze things over, as seen when Adam slams the blade into the deck of a ship and causes the entire vessel and everyone on it (sans himself and Adora) to be frozen solid.
  • Playing with Fire: The Sword of Power can blast powerful flames out, which Adam learns on accident when he shoots flames into the eye of the titan, Blizzarus.
  • Redeeming Replacement: Is this to his immediate predecessor, King Ro. Ro was, at the best of times, a Nominal Hero and perverted jerk who cheated on his wife and was prejudiced against homosexuals like his cousin, Mara. Adam, while arrogant, is more genuinely heroic and takes his duties seriously, and is accepting of his sister's sexuality.
  • Royals Who Actually Do Something: He's the Prince of Eternia and he's also the main hero, going out to stop Skeletor's forces personally as He-Man.
  • Sesquipedalian Loquaciousness: As part of He-Man's Ye Olde Butcherede Englishe, he knows a lot of big words. It helps him repeatedly win his and Adora's verbal chicken matches.
  • Ye Olde Butcherede Englishe: Not all the time, but he can dive into this territory every now and then when he turns into He-Man.
He-Man: So what do you say, Mighty Pegasus? Shall we sally forth and vanquish these troublesome tomnoddies?
Swift Wind: I didn't understand some of those words, but let's do it!

    Adora

Princess Adora of the House of Randor

A former Horde soldier turned member of the Princess Rebellion. She is the long-lost sister of Adam and the hero known to Etheria as She-Ra.
  • Adaptation Name Change: In all other Masters of the Universe media, Adora is her birth name. Here, it's her adoptive name. Her true name is Galatea. Though she still prefers to go by her adoptive name.
  • Broken Tears: After witnessing all the flashbacks of her family, she begins weeping in an emotional breakdown, now knowing that she always had a family who loved her dearly and she was taken away from them.
  • Cool Sword: Her main weapon is the legendary Sword of Protection, which allows her to transform into She-Ra.
  • Covert Pervert: Beneath her demeanor, she can be pretty lustful. She tends to ogle any attractive woman that strikes her fancy and privately spends her time in the Holo-Suite being entertained by a scantily clad hologram of Spinnerella.
  • Dumb Blonde: Inverted. Adora is generally level-headed and intelligent to the point where she comes across as The Straight Man in her interactions with Adam.
  • Even the Girls Want Her: She tends to attract the attention of a lot of women. During her birthday, she attracted seven women and flirted with all of them.
  • Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: A more straightforward example than her brother. She has long blonde hair and is a compassionate heroine who strives to protect people from harm.
  • Half-Human Hybrid: As her mother is from Earth, she's a hybrid of human and Eternian.
  • Has a Type: She has a thing for Big Beautiful Women. She has a crush on Spinnerella and was attracted to seeing one of her ancestors, who was noted to be rather plump. She also tends to get poked fun at for being a bit of a Chubby Chaser, though that's not to say that she doesn't find more conventional beauties like the Sorceress of Castle Grayskull and Felina highly attractive.
  • Healing Hands: More like "Healing Sword". She uses the Sword of Protection to heal Adam's wounds from after he barely survived Skeletor's suicide trap.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: She's horrified to learn that she was crushing on Spinnerella once she learns Netossa's married to her and furious about the Holosuite program of Spinnerella in a belly dancer's outfit.
  • Redeeming Replacement: What she strives to be to her immediate predecessor, Mara. While Mara wasn't a bad She-Ra, she did severe the connection between Eternia and Etheria in a fit of anger over the death of her lover, which led to many of Eternia's current problems since it led to the creation of the light and dark hemispheres. Adora, meanwhile, desires to undo the damage Mara caused and restore both planets back to how they once were.
  • Royals Who Actually Do Something: Like her brother, she's a Princess who strives to protect others and personally engages in battle as She-Ra.
  • Smitten Teenage Girl: Much like canon, Adora is really bad at hiding when she is attracted to someone. She practically drools over the Sorceress when they first meet.

Allies

Royal Family

    Randor

King Randor of the House of Mirio

The King of Eternia and the father of Adam and Adora.
  • Action Dad: He's the hero of the Great Unrest who can fight against the likes of Keldor by himself and is a loving father to his son and daughter.
  • Anti-Hero: He is a noble ruler, but he did commit some morally dubious actions in trying to undo the damage caused by the Great Unrest.
  • Good Parents: He may have had a hand in some pretty dark decisions when trying to restore peace to Eternia, but there's no denying that he's a loving father to his twin children.
  • Interspecies Romance: He's an Enternian who fell in love with and married Marlena, a human.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: Yes, he did supplant the previous rulers of the nine kingdoms of Eternia and he did kill off many royal lines in the process, but he ultimately did it to put a stop to the Great Unrest and the people he supplanted were incompetent at their jobs, while his allies that took their places helped pave the way for a more prosperous time.

    Battle Cat

Cringer/Battle Cat

He-Man's pet tiger and trusted steed.
  • Adaptational Badass: His transformation into Battle Cat is permanent and doesn't require Adam to transform him, letting him have his powers at all times.
  • Adaptational Jerkass: Canonically, Cringer is a Lovable Coward who hates being Battle Cat. This version of Battle Cat is a Blood Knight to the degree of getting bored with anything nonviolent.
  • Blood Knight: He thrives off battle and killing and is noted to get bored by anything that doesn't involve those things.
  • Cats Are Mean: He's a large tiger-beast and is shown to be very ruthless and bloodthirsty.
  • Intelligible Unintelligible: To Adam and Adora at least due to their connection to Grayskull's power.
  • Non-Human Sidekick: He's Adam's partner and is a vicious tiger-beast.

    Swift Wind

Swift Wind

Adora's trusted steed.

Castle Grayskull

    Sorceress

The Sorceress of Castle Grayskull

The guardian of Castle Grayskull and the one who gave Adam the Sword of Power.
  • Adaptational Jerkass: She's a bit more snarky and prideful than most incarnations.
  • Big Good: She's one of the primary ones for the story.
  • Even the Girls Want Her: She's a Head-Turning Beauty that Adora was completely tongue-tied by the sight of. Adam even tells her to stop drooling.
  • Head-Turning Beauty: She's incredibly beautiful and her clothing doesn't cover much. Adora was completely tongue tied at the sight of her.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: She wastes no time snarking at Adam's and even Adora's expense, but she does care for them and keeps them informed on what they need to know.
  • Odd Friendship:
    • She forms one with Shadow Weaver. Despite being on opposite ends of the spectrum, they end up getting along swimmingly due to sharing knowledge of their worlds and sympathizing with each other over the annoyances they have to deal with.
    • Like in most works, she forms one with Orko.
  • Older Than They Look: She's around 112 years old despite looking to be in her thirties at most. Adam wastes no time making fun of her age.

    Shadow Weaver

Shadow Weaver

Adora's former mentor and caretaker, as well as Hordak's former second-in-command.
  • Adaptational Heroism: She comes across as much more heroic here; working with the Sorceress in protecting Eternia after exchanging information and being genuinely praising towards Adora rather than controlling.
  • Casting a Shadow: She can control and manipulate shadows and alter her body to hide in them. She was able to escape her punishment from Hordak by hiding in Adora's shadow.
  • Odd Friendship: She forms one with the Sorceress. Despite being on opposite ends of the spectrum, they end up getting along swimmingly due to sharing knowledge of their worlds and sympathizing with each other over the annoyances they have to deal with. She also shows a willingness to befriend and play games with Orko, with the two even getting along well.

Friends

    Orko

Orko

Adam's best friend and Eternia's court magician.

    Bow

Bow

One of Adora's closest friends from Etheria who ended up on Eternia.
  • Deliberate Values Dissonance: Spending his life on a planet oppressed by the Horde has made Bow more than a little wary of an authoritarian Well-Intentioned Extremist like Randor.
  • Headbutting Heroes: He and Adam do not get along well at all. At first it was due to annoyance at Adam's nature as The Gadfly and considering his plan to get him out of Arcadia Too Clever by Half, but it gets worse once they start arguing about Randor.
  • Innocently Insensitive: He harshly criticizes King Randor while talking to Adam, not knowing that the king of Eternia is the father of both Adam and Adora. He's made aware after their conversation.
  • No Guy Wants an Amazon: Downplayed. He's disgusted by the masculine Arcadians' advances, but it's less to do with their size and strength and more to do with their Blood Lust and lack of manners or hygiene.
  • Unwanted Harem: He had all the Arcadian women swooning over him, yet wanted nothing to do with any of them. Unfortunately for him, the Arcadians don't take no for an answer.

Enemies

The Outcasts

    Skeletor

Skeletor/Keldor

The adopted brother of Randor and the leader of the Outcasts.
  • Adaptational Villainy: He is easily more villainous than most versions. Let's just say that sadistically trying to kill off infant Adora is among one of this version's more heinous attributes that make him much worse than the original.
  • Admiring the Abomination: He adores Dimmer the Creepy Child and acts like a Doting Parent to her.
  • Arch-Enemy: He is this to the Eternian royal family, but especially Randor and He-Man.
  • Bad Boss: By proxy at least, but he clearly approves of Dimmer sending Beast Man to the "bad place".
  • Beware the Silly Ones: He may be an absolute ham, but this is still the same guy who nearly conquered Eternia, can go against Randor in battle, almost killed He-Man, and sent Adora into the Well of Darkness just to spite Randor. Evil-Lyn may give him a ton of back-sass, but even she's genuinely afraid of pissing him off.
  • Big Bad: He's the primary antagonist for the story on Eternia and is the leader of the Outcasts.
  • Composite Character:
    • He gets elements of Hordak's original cartoon version in that he's partially responsible for kidnapping Adora as an infant.
    • He is a combination of the campy 80's version and the more serious 2002 version.
  • Deadpan Snarker: As part of his Large Ham nature. He's constantly snarking, insulting the universe, and making off-the-wall comments.
  • Evil Uncle: Though not biologically related, he's technically this to Adam and Adora due to being Randor's adoptive brother.
  • Evil Is Hammy: Almost every appearance he has, be it as Skeletor or Keldor, has him Chewing the Scenery in some way or form. Adam even lampshades what a ham he is.
  • Klingons Love Shakespeare: He has a thing for Earth horror movies, as he's seen watching and enjoying Bride of Frankenstein in private during Chapter 21.
  • Obviously Evil: Let's see here; dark cloak, evil magics, plans to take over the world, and skeleton face with Red Eyes, Take Warning. Yep, he's evil alright.
  • Practically Joker: Thanks to his hamminess, malicious tendencies and desire to make Randor suffer, he is very much like the Joker.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: His eyes glow red when he is angry, as seen when conversing with Evil-Lyn and when confronting Randor in a flashback.
  • Sanity Slippage: Granted, he wasn't exactly the most stable person to begin with, but after he became Skeletor, his state of mind took a nosedive.
  • Would Hurt a Child: Considering that he tried to commit infanticide against the royal twins and forced Randor to watch as an act of spite, not to mention took sadistic glee in Adora's (supposed) death, this is a very gross understatement.

    Evil-Lyn

Evil-Lyn/Evelyn

Skeletor's second-in-command and a powerful magic user.
  • Adaptational Villainy: In the 2002 series, Evil-Lyn was horrified by Keldor's transformation into Skeletor. Here, it amused her and she delighted in his suffering.
  • Age Lift: She's much younger in this story seeing as she was just a child when Keldor became Skeletor rather than an adult.
  • Broken Pedestal: We see in flashbacks that Evil-Lyn absolutely adored her father and the two genuinely loved each other. By present day, she gets pretty angry when he's brought up and, according to Skeletor, they're not on speaking terms.
  • Composite Character: She gets elements of Hordak's original cartoon version in that she's partially responsible for kidnapping Adora as an infant.
  • Creepy Child: She was really unnerving back when she was just a young girl named Evelyn. She actually took joy in Keldor's suffering and smiled as he went mad from his mutations.
  • Daddy's Little Villain: She was this in the past; helping her father with his actions at a young age and later transitioned to helping Skeletor.
  • Lady of Black Magic: She's an expert in dark magic, having used her affinity for the dark arts to aide Skeletor in capturing the royal twins and serves as his second-in-command.
  • Teens Are Monsters: By the time she was a teenager, she was gleefully helping Skeletor kidnap and attempt to kill the royal twins, both of whom were infants at the time.
  • Women Are Wiser: Part of the reason she is second-in-command is because she comes off as more intelligent than most of Skeletor's minions, like Beastman. She's also generally The Straight Man to her boss.
  • Would Hurt a Child: Evil-Lyn goes way beyond this since she helped kidnap Adam and Adora when they were babies and helped Skeletor in trying to kill them.

    Dimmer (Spoilers)

Dimmer

The other, darker half of Glimmer. She was captured at a slave auction and now serves under Skeletor.
  • Amazing Technicolor Population: She has gray skin.
  • Creepy Child: Even more so than Evil-Lyn used to be. At least Evelyn could act like a normal child despite her love for the suffering of others. Dimmer is just plain spooky and incapable of replicating normal behavior.
  • Dark Is Evil: Dimmer—the half of Glimmer with a muted color pallet—is the half that creeps out everyone but Skeletor and has actually done something unsavory to Beast Man, in contrast to the (so far) harmless womanchild Glitter.
  • The Dreaded: Besides Skeletor, she terrifies everyone. Even the slave auctioneers that held her actively tried to get rid of her as fast as possible because she terrified even them.
  • Elegant Gothic Lolita: Her preferred fashion choice. Quite a far cry from Glimmer's.
  • Emotionless Girl: She's completely devoid of any form of emotion. Nothing gets a rise or wink out of her, and her tone of voice conveys that emptiness.
  • Meaningful Name: She's Glimmer devoid of any form of emotion or individualism, and her color pallet is a muted version of Glimmer's. She's dimmer, in a word.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: Her eyes are naturally red, and that's just one of her many creepy qualities.
  • The Spock: She's essentially Glimmer's logical superego given form.
  • Stealth Hi/Bye: She's really good at appearing and disappearing in this manner. It's another one of her creepy aspects.
  • You Have Outlived Your Usefulness: Dimmer views other people based on whether or not they still have a purpose in Skeletor's plans. She outright told Webstor that he wouldn't be sent away because he still had a purpose, and she sent Beast Man to "the bad place" because he "served no function."

The Horde

    Catra

Force Captain Catra

Former friend of Adora and a Force Captain of the Horde.
  • Cats Are Mean: She is very grumpy, and this is before her humiliating situation on Eternia.
  • Cats Hate Water: Like canon, Catra hates water, as seen when she got splashed on by some corrupt police officers.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: She's overall selfish and abrasive, but she's capable of forming friendships with others despite that. When she envisioned herself as leader of the Horde, she imagined Scorpia and Entrapta rising to the top with her, signifying that she does care for them more than she lets on.
  • Four-Star Badass: She is still a Force Captain and one of She-Ra's most recurring threats despite her predicament on Eternia.
  • Pet the Dog: Despite her not liking Glimmer due to being her enemy, even she can't help but feel sorry for her after seeing what her time in the Dark Hemisphere did to her.
  • Revenge: After learning Hordak's past regarding Eternia and mulling over her options, she decides to team up with Leech to get revenge on her former leader.

    Leech

Force Captain Leech

A reptilian Force Captain trapped on Eternia after Hordak's failed attempt to conquer the planet.
  • Affably Evil: He's a Horde solider, but he's rather polite and considerate of his fellow teammates and even civilians when engaged in conversation with them.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: He heavily follows the Force Captain Code, which includes no executions of the mentally impaired (or it's at least implied to).
  • Life Drain: He can drain the life out of others to rejuvenate his strength akin to a vampire, as seen when a Dirty Cop harassed Catra and left him as a shriveled corpse.
  • Old Soldier: He's older than all the Force Captains currently working under Hordak since he originally served him fifty years ago during his attempted invasion of Eternia.
  • Revenge: His main motivation is not just getting revenge on the Eternian royal family, but also on Hordak for causing him to be trapped on Eternia in the first place.

    "Glitter"

Princess Glimmer of Bright Moon/"Glitter"

The Princess of Bright Moon, who ended up trapped on the Eternian Dark Hemisphere, with less than pleasant results.
  • Bait-and-Switch: The audience is led to believe that she's Glimmer driven mad by her time on the Dark Hemisphere, but she's actually half of Glimmer split off from her rational side.
  • Break the Cutie: Her time on the Dark Hemisphere broke her mind, causing her to mentally regress to cope. Well, not really, but she still counts as this all the same, having been split off from the original Glimmer along with Dimmer.
  • The McCoy: She's essentially Glimmer's childish and emotional Id given form.

Other

    King Nikolas

King Nikolas/The Faceless One

Evil-Lyn's father, Skeletor's mentor, and the one who drove Mara to madness.
  • Adaptational Villainy: Was a hero in the source material. Here, he's not only evil (and that's before he became the Faceless One), he's also the one responsible for everything that went wrong for both planets.
  • Composite Character: Takes on elements of Hordak's characterization in that he's Skeletor's mentor and the guy who saved his life.
  • Evil Mentor: Was this for Skeletor and his daughter, Evil-Lyn.
  • Greater-Scope Villain: He's only appeared in two chapters (both flashbacks) but is ultimately responsible for pretty much every tragedy that Eternia and Etheria have endured. His murder of Mara's lover (and the framing of her brutish homophobe of a cousin for the crime) drove Mara to split the light and dark hemisphere, which in turn banished Etheria to Despondos and threw Eternia into chaos. And since what happens on Eternia effects the entire universe, the ensuing blowback is also implied to have created the situation allowing Horde Prime to rise to power and create his empire. He also saved Skeletor's life when the latter was mortally wounded by acid and made him what he is now.
