Funny.Reality Checks Nyxverse: The scene where Celestia and Nyx completely reconciliate is truly moving, but ends on a CMOF. At the end of the scene, Celestia explains to Nyx that because of the ritual, she has a biological link to Luna and Twilight, and thus, Twilight is actually her biological mother. Nyx is overjoyed, then hesitates, and... Nyx: Hokey smokes. Does this mean that Princess Luna is my Dad? Celestia: (Spit Take) Beat Nyx and Celestia: Naaaaaah. This gets even funnier when Luna and Celestia later reveal that they've been disguised as each other all night. Twilight one-ups her daughter later on by waiting until Celestia is about to take a drink before (falsely) claiming to be pregnant. The resulting Spit Take disintegrated the glass she was drinking from, much to the amusement of Twilight, Ink Spot, Cadance, and Nyx.

At the time, Blue Beetle rivaling Spider-Man was treated as the idea of an out-of-touch studio executive. Then the first trailer for Blue Beetle was released to great acclaim. The following year, Flounder would end up getting CGI surgery.During the final battle, Sweet Pete's One-Winged Angel form features a Bullet Bill cannon for a right arm. Brian Tyler, who composed this movie's musical score, would eventually go on to compose the musical score of The Super Mario Bros. Movie. However, this town has a dark secret, and a young boy must warn his family before it's too late. Don't miss the truly shocking twist: there are no trolls. Not one! It is also the origins of one of the funniest lines ever uttered on the big screen. Interestingly enough, it isn't a sequel despite having a "2" in its title; the original is mostly remembered for an ironically-named main character.

And then it happens again. This would not be the last sci-fi franchise that would use thinly-veiled space Nazis and the name "Zeon"... though in Gundam, the Zeons themselves are the Space Nazis. Talk about irony...
YMMV.Batman Mask Of The Phantasm: In an example of Those Two Actors, a few years later Batman would be interacting with Andrea Beaumont (in a sense) again. The Joker says, "Why so formal?" to Sal Valestra. Replace "formal" with a synonym and you get... The Joker ultimately taking over as the central antagonist by the end of the film over the Phantasm becomes more amusing in light of his tendency to do so in the Arkham games. The mob boss Joker is seen working for in the Flashbacks has the last name "Valestra." A few decades later, another incarnation of the character would have that as a surname. Phantasm's vendetta against the Joker failed, inevitably. Justice League Unlimited later revealed that Phantasm would end up hired by Amanda Waller in the/a distant future, and the Joker's ex also regularly worked for Waller.
YMMV.Bugs Bunny And Taz Time Busters: In the ending, Daffy unsuccessfully tries to dissuade Count Bloodcount from eating him by claiming he’s high in fat and cholesterol. A few years after the game’s release, Duck Dodgers introduced Count Muerta, an adaptation of Bloodcount who lives off of fat as opposed to blood and ignored Daffy for being too skinny for him to consume. He even asks greedily about Porky/Cadet's cholesterol levels and body fat percentage!
YMMV.Himenospia: Himenospia was always known for being similar to Arachnid despite not being a Fighting Series, but it got really on-the-nose as it went on and from 2020 to 2021 it was published concurrently with Blattodea. So the author essentially wrote Arachnid twice at the same time. Then a year after Himenospia ended, Serena showed up in Blattodea virtually unchanged from how she appears here, with a remake of her introduction scene and all.
YMMV.The Flash Sentry Chronicles: This fic has Flash Sentry represent the Element of Courage, but Season 7 of MLP reveals that another pony bears the Element of Bravery, which is more or less the same. Even more, his name is Flash Magnus, who bears a striking resemblence to Sentry sans the armor. When Scootaloo's canon parents, Snap Shutter and Mane Allgood, finally appear in Season 9 it is revealed they have nearly the same job as her and Flash's OC parents, Trail Blazer and Misty Veil. In this series, Pinkie Pie says she prefers to date Wild Smile instead of Cheese Sandwich, because she doesn't want to date a carbon copy of herself, mirroring Banshee531's thoughts on the ship. Then in the canon series finale it is revealed Pinkie ended up marrying Cheese and having a kid with him.
YMMV.The Pirates Of Penzance: Because, with all our faults, we love our Queen. After Robert Newton's portrayal of Long John Silver in Treasure Island, Cornish has become the default accent for pirates. At the time, Penzance in Cornwall was a sleepy fishing town, and the idea of bloodthirsty pirates appearing there was absurd and part of the comedy.
YMMV.Twenty One Emon: One of the multi-part episodes involve an elaborate Dream Within a Dream, which culminates in Emon panicked after seeing his dad working on a spacecraft (as the dream involves among other things spacecraft crash and Emon stranded in space). Keep in mind that this is around 20 years before Inception, which popularizes the idea.
YMMV.Rankin Bass Jack Frost: A girl being in love with Jack Frost... well, that seems pretty random. Not anymore, thanks in part to Rise of the Guardians. So, a Blue Is Heroic protagonist who has to deal with a mustachioed egomaniacal Big Bad who uses a robot army... are we talking about Jack Frost, or Sonic the Hedgehog? The story is eerily reminiscent of The Little Mermaid. Buddy Hackett would later voice another animal sidekick in the Disney version of that story. Robert Morse, the voice of Jack, would end up playing Santa Claus in multiple Christmas episodes of Teen Titans Go!! Jack may not have gotten the girl, but at least he got a promotion.
YMMV.Pendulum Band: On a greater scale, Pendulum and the British rock scene. While the drum & bass side of the fandom lost it after In Silico (mostly coming back with Immersion), Pendulum seems to have a massive amount of respect from rock fans since then, with the general idea of "yeah, these guys are electronic, but they're just as metal as everyone else at this festival". Hilarious in Hindsight and ironic after many of the "fans" on Dogs on Acid basically told them that they weren't "hard" enough for rock fans to like them; even more so if you know Rob and Gareth's musical history: being rock musicians before being drum & bass producers.
YMMV.The Dark Knight Trilogy: Heath Ledger hitting on Jake Gyllenhaal's sister. The Joker and John Blake going to high school together. Bruce Wayne isn't the only bat-themed hero in Gotham. Nestor Carbonell, who played Mayor Garcia, also played Batmanuel in The Tick (2001). The Dark Knight Rises showed Gotham enjoyed 8 years of relative peace once the crime rate was well and truly stamped out. When the same thing happens in The LEGO Batman Movie, the general population celebrates by rioting! Christian Bale's casting as Batman, since it meant he was cast as the lead character in a film series based on a character from DC, Marvel's biggest rival. Years later, he would join the Marvel Cinematic Universe... as the main antagonist of Thor: Love and Thunder. Amsterdam (2022) features Christian Bale and Margot Robbie cast as two of the main characters, as friends. In other words, this movie features Batman and Harley Quinn (from two distinct continuities) teaming up.

With this episode Having been filmed in September 2010, the creators had no idea that come December, many Christmas presents ordered online really did fail to reach people on time due to the unusually large snowfall. In S3E4 (2005), Mark states to himself that Big Suze "probably got a title." As of 2009, her actress Sophie Winkleman's formal title is "Lady Frederick Windsor."

YMMV.Cookie Run: Yu Gi Oh ARCV has a character named Dennis, who is a Stage Magician with long, ginger hair. A year later, we have Cinnamon Cookie, who has a similar character description. In 2020, some cookies got costumes based off of Alice in Wonderland. In July 2022, Cookie Run Kingdom would have a crossover with Disney and one of the characters happens to be Alice herself. Bonus point is that three of the cookies getting costumes in that gatcha were Strawberry (Kitty Punk/Cheshire Cat), Knight (Ace of Spades) and Princess (Princess of Hearts) and all three of them are playable cookies in Kingdom. Also in the year 2020 came Popping Candy Cookie and the Cake POPs, which were based on K-pop bands. Come two years later in Cookie Run Kingdom and there's now a crossover with none other than #1 K-pop band BTS.

YMMV.Star Trek S 1 E 25 The Devil In The Dark: Spock's rapid opinion switch about the method of dealing with the Horta is funny anyway, but in "The Immunity Syndrome", he gives a critical speech to McCoy about the human tendency towards A Million Is a Statistic. Given his reaction herenote seeing it as acceptable to risk the lives of the security guards by telling them to capture the Horta if possible rather than killing it, but immediately wanting it dead once Kirk finds himself on his own ten feet away from the creature, it comes across as the pot calling the kettle black.
YMMV.Doctor Slump: When Arale meets Donbe, a transforming fox, she claims that she can transform as well, and promptly spends the entire afternoon changing into an Ultraman costume. This almost feels like a retroactive parody of the Transformation Sequence scenes in Dragon Ball. A chapter set ten years into the future depicts Toriyama as a Future Loser. Little did he know that his manga becomes a pop culture phenomenon. Tsun Tsukutsun's design was the basis for Yamcha. This becomes funny when you realize that while Tsun is potentially the most powerful character in the series, Yamcha ends up becoming a Memetic Loser. In one episode Arale has an Identical Stranger in Anko who looks like her, but she has brown hair. In the remake, Arale will be a brunette.
YMMV.Wangan Midnight: In the "Legendary FC" arc, Hayashi offers to give Kijima back his prized FC for free if Kijima can prove on objective grounds that an FC (RX-7 GT-X) is better than an FD (the newer RX-7 Type R). In Maximum Tune 4 and later, the FD ends up becoming a top-tier car, with the FC close behind. Good luck trying to prove that the FC is even more OP than the FD!

There's something funny about a character that used to be a main hero of the Dragon Quest franchise being voiced by someone who is more popular for voicing a main hero from a different Square Enix franchise. After the release of Among Us, it's been a meme to point out patterns that resemble its Crewmate characters. Avan's emblem is one such symbol, and the joke is actually relevant to the story as he disguises himself as Kill-Vearn to interrogate Myst-Vearn and is called out as an impostor.

Come Fire Emblem Fates, a female mercenary named Soleil is introduced and it's revealed that she can't sing to save her life. Episode 42, Johnny dresses up as a pirate. Remember the guy is based on Johnny Depp. In episode 159, the Cool Starship of Starlight Academy is vaguelt turtle shaped, and a plot point involves finding a spy amongst the students. Sounds familiar?
YMMV.The Fruitties: A cartoon about talking fruits who live on an island near a volcano? Sounds kinda like a cartoon series that Kids WB would air later. As an added bonus, both shows also fall under Keep Circulating the Tapes territory in some way or another. In 1998, a Malaysian cartoon called Frootees premiered. The name alone is similar enough to The Fruitties that it borders on being the same name altogether. Some Malaysians believe the former to be a blatant ripoff given that the original had aired in Malaysia several years prior.

During Demi's performance of "Confident" at the 2015 American Music Awards, a brief cut to an entranced Joe Jonas in the audience gave one too many viewers Camp Rock flashbacks. “La La Land” now that there is a film called La La Land about Hollywood which describes many of the issues that Demi touches on in their song of the same name. YMMV.Quirk Sequencer: The idea of Quirks having "Sequences" that Izuku can obtain and ingest to use with his own Quirk would end up getting unintentionally validated in canon years later, specifically with the reveal of the "Quirk Factor" that allows someone to have a Quirk, and that both All For One and One For All involve the use of Quirk Factors. Namely that All For One steals the Quirk Factor to steal people's Quirks, and that One For All merges with the Quirk Factors of the wielder, giving Izuku access to six additional Quirks.

Guillermo del Toro left clues in plain sight about his desire to make The Shape of Water way back here by having Abe, a fish man played by Doug Jones, being in love and singing "Can't Smile Without You" after confessing his feelings, with a Reaction Shot of Liz hearing the music from Hellboy's quarters, where a TV just so happens to be playing Creature from the Black Lagoon...
ShoutOut.Disgaea: In the opening, Flonne unleashes a barrage of meteors upon the Earth and when they crash, numerous familiar tall skinny crosses sprout in their wake. Made even funnier by the fact that they were caused by an angel.
YMMV.Dead Connie Society: This fic was completed long before "Dial Meg For Murder" aired, but it was pretty awesome to see Meg deliver some sort of soda-related punishment to Connie on-screen (even if it wasn't fatal). It seems that this work is implying that Amunet was actually of the famous Ptolemy dynasty and that she wanted Cleopatra dead for more...personal reasons. Also a great example of Hilarious in Hindsight after the release of Origins.

ShoutOut.Street Fighter: According to Zangief / M. Bison designer Ikuo Nakayama (who was a big Pro Wrestling fan), Bison's shin guards were heavily inspired by the kneeboots used by Universal Wrestling Federation wrestlers. In a Hilarious in Hindsight twist, one of the UWF alumni's biggest stars, Nobuhiko Takada, would later create Fighting Opera HUSTLE where he would star as the main villain, which some spectators have compared to a "M. Bison cosplayer" (although he seems to be more based on Leader Dessler).

When CinemaSins did "Everything Wrong With Moulin Rouge!", one of the sins given out was "the most beautiful courtesan in the world is one letter away from being named after a cracker."

Characters.Sakura Gakuin: Hilarious in Hindsight/Tempting Fate: In October 2017, Sakura Gakuin held its final Shuffle Unit show to-date, and Kano got the chance to be in the Juonbu (Babymetal), dancing in Moa's position – for the record, Marin was in Yui's slot and Maaya got Suzuka's. Kano gushed about "being Moa-sama" so much that Mori-sen decided to snark at the camera about Kano joining Babymetal. Twenty months later, it happened. "Won't you give her a chance, Babymetal-san? Fujihira danced to one song!" By coincidence, that episode of FRESH aired one day after Yui's final performance with Babymetal, though no one (Yui included) knew it at the time.

The way people describe the Mira Life cards featured in one quest is a lot like the hated gacha draws of the Blades in Xenoblade Chronicles 2. Fortunately for the people on Mira, the cards can be traded. This wasn't the first time that Carrie Keranen (Irina) and Michael Sinterniklaas (Gwin) played a duo where one had a crush on the other, although in that case, the one voicing the character who had the crush was the opposite of the one doing so here, and it was slightly less hopeless.

YMMV.Kamen Rider Kuuga: It's stated in the finale that the Gouram was intended to disintegrate if Kuuga somehow grew too powerful, yet it doesn't happen even after he gains Ultimate Form. Fast forward to Kamen Rider Wizard, where he certainly qualifies after gaining an additional Rising Ultimate Form... It was hilarious even before that when Decade turned Kuuga himself into a Gouram, but was further compounded in the Final Chapter movie by Kuuga having the ability to become Ultimate Gouram form at will.
Recap.The Simpsons S 11 E 15 Missionary Impossible: Take That!: At British Brevity. "Not hard to see why it's England's longest-running series, and today, we're showing all seven episodes." At Family Guy ("So, if you don't want lowbrow programming to disappear from the airwaves..." followed by Betty White turning off the TV showing the FG logo on it "...please, call now.") note though now Hilarious in Hindsight, since the show returned in 2005 due to excellent DVD sales and popular demand. Funny.Sonic Adventure: A little bit of Hilarious in Hindsight occurs in Gamma's story. When he gets transported to the past, Tikal tells him that the Chao are being protected by Chaos, describing him as a very "gentle and loving creature". Fast-forward to the end of the game, where Perfect Chaos is destroying everything in his path, potentially murdering thousands of innocent people. Gentle and loving indeed.Likewise, in Sonic's story, Eggman's description of Chaos to anyone who's played nearly any other 3D sonic game: Eggman: He'll be invincible. And work for me!

YMMV.Robopon: One of Pokémon Black and White's genre-deconstructing tropes was in the ending, where a villain is the final boss by way of usurping the champion. Robopon did that years earlier, in the first game. In Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire, a new feature was the ability to dive underwater. You used this to track down the villains. In the first Robopon, you can dive underwater as well — there's no bad guys there, but there's a health spa! The first Robopon games were Sun, Moon, and Star versions. In 2016, Pokémon Sun and Moon were announced. Robopon fans are quite amused at this.
YMMV.One Piece Logue Town Arc: That bit about fate becomes more meaningful when it was revealed that a relative of Luffy's had a similar relationship with the previous Pirate King Gold Roger not unlike to that of Luffy and Smoker's current relationship. It may have also been fate that brought Luffy to the town where the Pirate King died, and fate that Smoker was there that day in Loguetown — there to see the smile that would change his life forever.
YMMV.Anime Gataris: This love letter to anime and all of its tropes was released on the centennial year of Japanese Animation itself. When reality starts breaking down, the world even starts taking on styles and conventions of the anime of yesteryear. Turns out PreFae did get officially brought over to the US— but instead of keeping its original Japanese name, it changes from its literal translation to Glitter Force. A family of identical lazy siblings with the last name Nakano? As of the end of 2016, Mitsuteru's home situation isn't so special anymore. Remember when Miko mentions that she didn't ship 3D yet made an exception for Kai and Nakano? She only has to worry about one of them now, since Nakano was an anime character to begin with. And eventually they all become anime characters in the last few episodes.

Talk to your parents."note Ironically, Don Bluth would bring the good duchess back into popular consciousness just a few years later The vaudeville catcall "Hellooooo, nurse!" is now forever tied with this show despite it predating the series by decades.

YMMV.Bugsnax: Bugsnax takes a number of cues from the Pokémon series, such as how the titular creatures talk exclusively in Pokémon Speak. Pokémon Scarlet and Violet ended up including an element similar to something in Bugsnax — namely, a boss battle with a sushi-based dragon (the Dragon/Water-type Tatsugiri) in a water-filled area.

YMMV.The Talented Mr Ripley: In the novel, reference is made to Dickie being portrayed as a "combination of Paul Gauguin and Errol Flynn". Jude Law would also make a cameo appearance as Flynn in The Aviator (which also had Cate Blanchett in it). Ripley jokes that when Dickie wears his glasses, he looks like Clark Kent, and without them, he looks like Superman. Jude Law was up for the role of Clark Kent/Superman in an ultimately-unproduced Batman vs. Superman project in the 2000s, and even got to try on the Superman suit.
Funny.PAW Patrol: Rubble briefly relates his dream of a world where cats can talk. Skye deems such an idea "weird".The above Mundane Fantastic joke is even funnier after we find out that cats are as smart as the pups, just incapable of speech. The joke became even more hilarious after the introduction of Mr. Nibbles, AKA The Copycat, in the Season 6 episode Mighty Pups Charged Up: Mighty Pups Versus the Copycat.note He gained the ability to speak after he got a piece of the meteor stuck on one of his teeth. And compounded further by the presence of Wild Cat, who is inexplicably able to speak perfect English despite being a cat.
YMMV.The Simpsons S 2 E 7 Bart Vs Thanksgiving: During Bart's Imagine Spot of the family blaming him for everything, Homer yells at Bart: "It's your fault I'm bald!" In "And Maggie Makes Three," we learn this is at least partly true as that episode shows that Homer's baldness came about by him ripping out his hair each time he learned Marge was pregnant. When Homer mentions why you can't have "every flash-in-the-pan character" as a parade balloon, a Bart balloon is briefly visible on the Simpsons' TV. At this stage the show's producers were in all likelihood expecting that the show would run for a few years and then fizzle out, but as it would turn out, the show ended up being much more of a Long Runner than they could have ever dreamed. True, Bart's role has been heavily overshadowed by that of Homer, and to a lesser extent Lisa in the show's later years, but he hasn't done too badly all things considered.

YMMV.Me Without You: It's All Crazy! received a largely negative reception from an audience who disliked the new direction the album had taken, with many feeling as if it was a bizarre artistic decision for the band to take, that they were being untrue to themselves, or that it was just some kind of experimental phase. The core cast would later appear in Chou Ninja Tai Inazuma, a Super Sentai parody set in the Jidaigeki period with our heroes being magically empowered ninjas. Nic Sampson, the actor who played Tsubasa's Power Rangers counterpart Chip, went on to play the Sentinel Knight, gold-armored Zuban's counterpart, in the following season. Five years later, Hiroya Matsumoto, Tsubasa's actor, would play a gold warrior himself, Masato/Beet Buster. In Stage 37, a foreign woman asks Tsubasa for directions in English, but Tsubasa struggles out a decline due to not knowing enough English. Years later, Tsubasa becomes a guest instructor at a magic school in England and even taught Yakumo Kato of the Shuriken Sentai Ninninger.

Nowadays, every form of forensics except DNA evidence is under fire; The Innocence Project has blown gaping holes in the validity of computer-enhanced photographic evidence, witness testimonies, and even fingerprints.
