YMMV / Death Machine

Go To

  • Cliché Storm: Name a famous cyberpunk movie made before 1994 that this doesn't homage or reference.
  • Cry for the Devil: Even after all the atrocities committed by Dante, he is, at his core, a profoundly lonely person struggling to come to terms with his abandonment as a child. He’s lived his entire life in a box, valued only for his intellect, and the weapons it could produce. He wants nothing more than an actual connection with another person, but due to his dangerous and bizarre behavior, he is completely unable to achieve that. And after all of his bluster is spent, and the doors lock on the containment chamber, he spends the last moments on screen (and presumably alive) asking for his mom.
  • Ham and Cheese: Brad Dourif absolutely devours the scenery with all the subtlety of a rabid wolverine, and it is glorious.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: People really love to put Brad Dourif in long, stringy, black wigs, don’t they? Not only does Dante’s unkempt mop make him look like he came straight from The Room (2003), but also bears a noticeable resemblance to human Charles Lee Ray, Tucker Cleveland, and Grima Wormtongue.
  • Memetic Mutation: "Holy donuts!"
  • Narm Charm: Seemingly the point of the whole movie. However, special consideration must be given to Raimi in his power armor, which seems to take away any ability he has to moderate his speaking volume.
  • Stoic Woobie: After nearly escaping death and being impaled through his thigh, Yutani needs a bandage, but none is readily available. He reaches down his trousers and with a few martial-artist grunts rips his underwear out to use as an improvised bandage.
