YMMV / Epic Rap Battle Parodies

• Growing the Beard:
  • Season 3 has much better editing, costumes, effects and better rap skills.
  • Season 4 has some of the best editing from Zander so far (Pee-wee vs Hugh, St. Nicholas vs St. Valentine, Jigsaw vs GLaDOS).
• Harsher in Hindsight: Drake & Josh vs The Blues Brothers has Drake mentioning bars and prisons in his first verse. Drake's actor, Drake Bell, will later be arrested for child endangerment.
• Hilarious in Hindsight:
  • Skrillex vs Mozart and James Bond vs Austin Powers are both battles that Epic Rap Battles of History ended up doing later; the credits for the latter even showed a comment pointing out that ERBP did it first.
  • One of the many factors in Steve vs Joe's backlash was Steve not wearing his iconic green striped shirt in favor of a salmon-colored shirt. Years later, the previously-thought-to-be-lost pilot for Blue's Clues, "Blue Prints," was released to the public...and it depicted Steve in a salmon-colored shirt!
• Memetic Mutation: Mainly because of these two videos, Steve vs Joe in it's entirety.
• Signature Song: "Slenderman vs Jeff the Killer" was their most viewed video before it was made unlisted. "Eyeless Jack vs Laughing Jack", "Freddy vs Jason", and "Jigsaw vs GLaDOS" were also among their most viewed battles.
• Special Effects Failure:
  • The Rake is just a shirtless Anthony Perry.
  • The early battles were full of this to the extreme, but it got much better. See Growing the Beard above.
• Unintentional Period Piece: More than a few early episodes had characters use words like "yolo" and "swag", which automatically date the videos back to the early 2010's. In addition, the usage of characters such as Puff Puff, Slenderman, Jeff the Killer, and bronies also make it fairly obvious that a majority of the older episodes were released in 2013 when said characters were at the peak of their relevance/popularity.
