  • Awesome Music:
    • Tom Jones's "She's a Lady" played at the end.
    • "Never Loved a Man (The Way I Love You)" by Aretha Franklin plays when Corky goes to a lesbian bar to try to pick up a woman to sleep with.
    • "Hallelujah, I Love Her So" by Ray Charles plays in a scene after Corky and Violet had sex, as Corky pulls up to the apartment building, dressed like a normal person (instead of the gruffy look she had previous) with a smile on her face as she prepares to go into the building to work and to possibly meet Violet later.
  • Best Known for the Fanservice: The lesbian sex scene was extremely groundbreaking for its time. Despite being about twenty seconds long, it's by far the most remembered scene.
  • Complete Monster: Caesar is the abusive, paranoid mobster boyfriend of the wily Violet. A man not shy to torture and murder, Caesar clues us into the kind of man he is by forcing Violet to stay and listen as he and his compatriots torture a man they suspect of robbing them. When Violet and her closet ex-con girlfriend try and gaslight Caesar to think his mobsters are plotting against him so they can escape with the mobsters' money, Caesar digs in. Killing his own boss in an impulsive moment of fury, as well the man's son and bodyguard, Caesar decides to torture the information out of Violet and Corky as well, trying to make Corky watch as he asks Violet "ten times"—with a pair of pruning shears to the fingers. Caesar still plans on killing more of his own allies in paranoia, and even when Violet negotiates a position of interest for herself, Caesar is noncommittal about sparing either her or Corky.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: As this was movie the Wachowskis made before their big hit The Matrix, it's not hard to see some of the DNA of that movie in this movie. In addition to the two women who look like Trinity, and Joe Pantoliano as one of the villains, there's overhead shots moving from one room to another, a camera quickly following a telephone line as it rings, and point blank gunshots.
  • Just Here for Godzilla: Many viewers were only interested in the film for the hot girl-on-girl.
  • LGBT Fanbase: Understandably has a large lesbian fanbase from being a rare example of a lesbian romance-centric crime movie. With a happy ending for the lesbian couple, no less.
