YMMV / LEGO Adventurers

  • Awesome Ego: An interesting example regarding Johnny Thunder. In any of the LEGO Adventurers media, Johnny Thunder is depicted as your typical humble selfless hero. Outside the LEGO Adventurers media, however, Johnny Thunder is depicted as self-absorbed, haughty, and egotistical, such as in LEGO Studios Backlot and LEGO Universe. This attitude does not diminish his popularity at all; instead, it only increases it, because his ego is not only backed up by his accomplishments in his own toyline but also gives him quite a few funny lines that make him even more enjoyable.
  • Common Knowledge:
    • LEGO Adventurers is infamous for inexplicably renaming Gail Storm, Dr. Charles Lightning, Baron von Barron, and Sam Sinister between 2000 and 2003, replacing their original names with Pippin Reed, Dr. Kilroy, Lord Sam Sinister, and Slyboots, respectively. However, the former "original" names were actually just the North American localization's Dub Name Changes. With the exception of Baron von Barron (whose original name was Mr. Hates), the latter set of names were actually the character's original names from Denmark, which became used worldwide after LEGO started Ditching the Dub Names. It's a similar scenario to "Princess Toadstool" becoming "Princess Peach" or "Dr. Robotnik" becoming "Dr. Eggman".
    • Common mistakes in the fandom include referring to Slyboots as "Lord Sam Sinister", or believing that Slyboots and Lord Sam Sinister are the same character. In the North American localization in 1998, Slyboots' Dub Name Change was "Sam Sinister", but never "Lord Sam Sinister".note  The character named "Lord Sam Sinister" in Orient Expedition is clearly meant to be Baron von Barron/Mr. Hates, not Slyboots. Furthermore, Lord Sinister and Slyboots appeared alongside one another on the LEGOLAND Windsor "Orient Expedition" train ride as late as 2012, showing that LEGO still regarded them as separate characters despite the notorious Sam Sinister Switcheroo.
  • Ensemble Dark Horse: In the greater LEGO library, Johnny Thunder is met with a devoted fanbase whenever he makes a small cameo, such as in LEGO Universe, The LEGO Movie, and LEGO Minifigures.
  • Epileptic Trees: The infamous Sam Sinister Switcheroo has inspired many off-the-wall fan theories over the years. One such idea, spurred by Manor Von Barron including a top hat-wearing skeleton hanging in chains above a mysterious altar, is that Baron von Barron sacrificed Slyboots to steal his identity.
  • Fanon: While Dr. Kilroy is exclusively treated with Last-Name Basis in canon, fans often like to call him "Dr. Charles Kilroy" as a combination of his American and European names.
  • First Installment Wins: While the later subthemes certainly have their fair share of fans, the iconic original Egypt line is most often the first thing that jumps to mind whenever LEGO fans think of LEGO Adventurers. To illustrate this point, most of the Continuity Nods in 10273 Haunted House are references to Egypt, with only a few nods to Orient Expedition and no references to either Amazon or Dino Island.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: A LEGO set inspired by Jurassic Park that's called "T-Rex Transport" and includes an adult T-Rex, a baby theropod, a truck with a detachable cage trailer, a vehicle with a predominantly blue and grey color scheme, and one female minifig in a set otherwise populated with male minifigs? Are we talking about the LEGO Adventurers set from 2000, or the LEGO Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom set from 2018?
