Sandbox / Tareme Eyes And Tsurime Eyes Wick Check

Go To

Tareme Eyes and Tsurime Eyes wick check are both done in this page since both tropes are similarly misused and both require wick check at the same time. While both tropes can be merged, there is still open possibility for keeping both tropes separately. To be sure, both tropes will need 50 wicks separately, as both tropes are within the 50-2500 wicks range. Tareme Eyes had 812 entries prior to the opening of this wick check, while Tsurime Eyes have 1025. note

Tareme Eyes (droopy eyes, softer personalities such as gentleness/kindness/docileness)

Correct use with matching personality (1/50, 2%)
  • 1. Tsukasa Hiiragi (Lucky Star): (In Characters.Lucky Star) "To highlight her niceness and kindhearted nature, and to differentiate her from Kagami." note
  • 2. Love Live!: "In the original anime, Nozomi Tōjō, Hanayo Koizumi and Kotori Minami have the most noticeable ones around . Nozomi is generally tender, kind and motherly around the other members... unless she's punishing them by groping their chests. Hanayo has these to accentuate her timid and soft nature, being a pretty shy, yet kind girl with some social awkwardness and no outdoor voice. Lastly, Kotori has these, matching her sweet and selfless personality, and it's explicitly mentioned in supplementary material that her soft eyes are her charm point." All of these examples are correct usages.
Matching eye type, but different traits from intended (0/50, 0%)

Tsurime Eyes (slanted eyes, harsher personalities such as arrogant/prideful/snarky)

Correct use with matching personality (1/50, 2%)
  • 1. Kagami Hiiragi (Lucky Star): (In Characters.Lucky Star) "The most significant feature to distinguish her from Tsukasa, and to highlight her smart and serious nature."
Matching eye type, but different traits from intended (0/50, 0%)
    In-appearance only (0/50, 0%)

     Miscellaneous cases(1/50, 2%)
  • 1. Love Live! Sunshine!!: "In Love Live! Sunshine!!, Riko Sakurauchi, Yoshiko Tsushima, Dia Kurosawa and Leah Kazuno have these. Riko's personality actually fits more the tareme route, but piss her off and she'll show these. Yoshiko has these to complement her "little demon" look and chuunibyou personality. Leah has these to highlight her competitive nature, as a member of the rival school idol duo, Saint Snow. Dia, however, has the most noticeable of the four; as a perfectionist, classic tsundere with a Hair-Trigger Temper and the tendency to Chew the Scenery and Milking the Giant Cow." While this might seem more complicated than initially expected, all of those are technically correct usages - except for Riko, who doesn't have the orthodox usage (she's normally has the personality that goes against the "slanted eyes" stereotype, though she shows up when she's "angry"... does that means she technically zig-zags this?).
    Extra / Unsorted

Additionally, there are occasions where both tropes are mentioned in one entry of supposedly an example of one or the other. I'll list them here, however they don't count again towards either or both of the wick checks above - this is just to note how often both are used together:
Bonus: Mutual usage (both tropes are implied and used on relation to each another
  • Lucky Star: Kagami and Tsukasa are mentioned to have Tsurime and Tareme respectively to match with their personalities which are kind of opposite of each another. They're also Polar Opposite Twins.
