Hybrids (formerly Werewolves)

    Hayley Marshall-Kenner

Hayley Marshall/Andrea Labonair

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/marshall_hayley_6613.png
"First, I'm going to kick your ass. Then, I'm going to take my pack back."
Played By: Phoebe Tonkin

Hayley: "I have been attacked by French Quarter vampires, I've had to live in a house with a secret dungeon full of coffins, and I was nearly murdered by witches who are convinced that my baby is Lucifer."

She was born as Andrea Labonair in New Orleans into one of the two ruling families of the Crescent Wolf Clan, but her mother and father were killed shortly after her birth. She was adopted by a human family, but they kicked her out after her first kill and transformation on a full moon. She also has a child with Klaus Mikaelson, named Hope.

  • Action Girl: It comes with being a werewolf, and it's been taken up to eleven since she became a Hybrid. She's immensely powerful, and skilled as opposed to merely strong and she's the mother of Hope in addition.
  • Almost Kiss: Between her and Elijah, and her and Jackson.
  • Arranged Marriage: Had her family not been slaughtered and displaced, she would have ended up as Jackson's wife in a political marriage between the two packs. In season two, she decides to marry Jackson in the hopes that their union will give the rest of the pack her hybrid ability to turn into a werewolf at will, thereby freeing them from Esther's control.
  • Anguished Declaration of Love: To Elijah before she leaves with Klaus
  • Back from the Dead: Monique kills her right after she gives birth to Hope. However, she wakes up in transition as the baby's blood was still in her system. As at the season finale, she's become a hybrid.
  • Battle Couple: With Jackson, when they have to be. Also Klaus and Elijah.
  • Belligerent Sexual Tension: With Klaus, which lead to her pregnancy.
  • Blessed with Suck: She was cursed with lycanthropy and vampirism, making her twice cursed as a Hybrid monster.
  • But I Can't Be Pregnant!: After and she and Klaus sleep together, she discovers that she was knocked up, despite thinking Klaus was infertile. It turned that because Klaus was part werewolf, he could still breed.
  • Came Back Strong: After being killed by Monique, she comes back as a Hybrid, thus being one of the most powerful creatures on the face of the planet. However, with the exception of Klaus who is an original, Hybrids aren't much more powerful than Vampires, they merely have human form-werewolf strength on top of their Vampire strength which gets enhanced with anger or a full moon, but they benefit from an immunity to stakes, sunlight and werewolf venom. So while they do have an advantage, older vampires can still fight them fairly well and win so long as they don't get bitten. That said, if a hybrid transforms into their wolf form, they would be nearly as strong as an original due to having access to the full power of their werewolf side.
  • Casting Gag: Phoebe Tonkin and Claire Holt (Rebekah) were both main characters in H₂O: Just Add Water.
  • Color-Coded Eyes: Hayley's eye colour. She has shown that at times, she can be somewhat of a jealous and envious personality.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Hayley often has a few one liners like this, especially around Klaus.
  • Emotion Suppression: After losing her child Hayley hides her grief.
  • Fake American: Played by Australian actress Phoebe Tonkin
  • Fetus Terrible: She was worried about this possibility, but it's ultimately averted.
  • Good Thing You Can Heal: The blood of her baby heals her from any wounds she gets.
  • Happily Adopted: At least, until her adoptive parents found out about her werewolf side.
  • Heroic BSoD: Hayley has one when she discovers that she's pregnant.
  • Hot-Blooded: Hayley is passionate, spunky and opinionated. Comes with being a werewolf.
  • The Leader: Hayley is the alpha of her pack it's unknown if Hayley is still the alpha after she has left New Orleans
  • The Lad-ette: Hayley is still very feminine, but she has some strong tomboyish tendencies.
  • Last of Her Kind: She's the last direct descendant of the Labonair wolf clan, and as of season three is heavily implied to be one of the last few remnants of her pack after Lucien's near massacre in the bayou.
  • Mama Wolf: Hayley loves her daughter more than anything, and she will fight tooth and nail to protect her.
  • Morality Pet: On-again, off-again for Klaus. It's played straighter with Elijah.
  • One of the Boys: Hayley seems to prefer the company of the opposite sex and doesn't seem to get on all that well with other girls.
  • Ooh, Me Accent's Slipping: Phoebe Tonkin's natural Australian accent slips through very often.
  • Parental Abandonment: Both of her parents are deceased and her adoptive ones kicked her out when she first turned.
  • Secret Legacy: Hayley finds her family book which reveals she is the last of her line. Jackson also reveals that they were engaged to be married to unify their packs and rule together.
  • Shapeshifter Mode Lock: Klaus has Dahlia place the Crescent Curse on her and her pack, which prevents them from leaving werewolf form unless there's a full moon. Davina temporarily suspends the curse, at a price.
  • Statuesque Stunner: Hayley is quite tall for a woman at 5'8 and very attractive.
  • The Runaway: Hayley's adoptive parents kicked her out of their house when she was younger after she had turned into a werewolf and wreaked havoc. She has been on her own ever since, joining different werewolf packs.
  • Tomboy: Although she's certainly feminine, she has aspects of tomboyism that makes her seek out males for company.

Vampires

     Marcel Gerard

Marcellus "Marcel" Gerard

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/gerard_marcellus_2408.jpg
"There’s a big difference between wanting to fight and knowing how to win."
Played By: Charles Michael Davis & Mc-Carrie Mc-Causland

Marcel: "Guess I'm what you call a necessary evil."

The former ruler of all supernatural life in New Orleans. Took over the city while Klaus and his siblings were run out of Town by their father over one hundred years ago. He is charming, intelligent, ruthless, and cunning. He was turned by Klaus back in the day, however he spent over a decade under Klaus' house as his adopted son. Unsurprisingly, this makes their current relationship a touch complex.Currently exiled from the home he used to rule. Marcel now focuses on recreating the community he lost and protecting those he loves. He enlisted both Gia and Josh as his new lieutenants. At the end of Season Three, Marcel takes a serum that changes him into a new type of Vampire that is stronger then multiple Originals with the ability to kill them at will, effectively becoming the most powerful Vampire in existence.

  • Affably Evil: He can be charming, giving, and an all round fun guy. As long as everything runs smoothly and nobody forgets who's in charge... if so this can lead to his Berserk Button.
  • Ain't Too Proud to Beg: Pledged his allegiance and surrendered his kingdom to Klaus after his disastrous attempt at capturing and imprisoning Klaus.
  • Ambiguously Evil: While his methods are brutal and he shows little mercy towards his enemies, Marcel could be considered this as his enemies, the witches, sacrifice children and his relationship with the human population is fairly reasonable (though sometimes strained). He has since revealed to be a moral vampire who uses ruthless methods from time to time.
  • Anti-Villain: Type I; Marcel is ruthless and willing to resort to extremely violent means to accomplish his goals, but he mentions he has limits. He won't feed on children, and compared to the witches he could be considered the lesser of two evils.
  • Belligerent Sexual Tension: With Rebekah.
  • Benevolent Boss: The vampires in town are quite loyal towards him, and Marcel views his inner circle as family. He displays some affection even towards the nightwalkers (vampires not in the inner circle) by allowing them parties to blow off steam. He showed willingness to allow Thierry to continue his relationship with a witch, and only imprisoned him in the Garden when Klaus manipulated the situation to appear as if Thierry was planning on betraying Marcel. In 1X08 Marcel's leadership qualities are displayed next to Klaus' for full effect. While Klaus threatens to torture his enemies for eternity, Marcel calmly tells his followers that he'll understand if they switch sides.
  • Berserk Button: Challenge him, and by extension his rule, and you get to see the less charming side. Also, like his mentor, and father figure Klaus, he takes disloyalty extremely personally. Kol learns this the hard way.
    • Hurting Davina in any way. She is the closest thing he has to a daughter, and he is willing to give up anything for her including his Kingdom. Hurting her is the easiest way to a painful end. In fact, it was Elijah and Freya's betrayal of her, leading to her fate worse than death that finally motivated him to take action against the Mikaelsons.
    • Children to him are the line that must never be crossed with him. He broke the peace they had with Witches back in season one to prevent innocent girls being sacrificed. He also made Hayley and Hope off limits during their exile despite Klaus' numerous enemies wanting to go after them.
  • Big Bad: Was set up to appear as this for The Originals. Though as the episodes pass and the Black-and-Gray Morality show, this trope seems to be muddled somewhat. The competition that Klaus ends up bringing doesn't help. It is then revealed he was Good All Along and has remained one of the more moral vampires thus far.
  • Big Brother Instinct: Is fiercely protective of Davina and will risk anything to for her, be it his Kingdom or his own life.
    • In season two, after Davina reveals that she is being attacked by a Witch who is attempting to usurp her position as Queen Witch, Marcel doesn't hesitate to offer to kill the Witch in question, even offering advice on how to handle the situation.
    • In season three he is fiercely protective of Hope, technically his half sister.
  • Bothering by the Book: When he figures out that Josh is working for Klaus under compulsion his first instinct is to kill him, then he notes that would be breaking his own rules. However he does come up with a better better plan instead...
  • The Charmer: While he does seek a solid relationship with Rebekah, technically speaking he has managed to have sexual relations with Sophia, Celeste, and Camille.
  • The Determinator: Is a survivor and a fighter, traits that Klaus saw in himself.
  • Devil in Plain Sight: Quite literally in regards to the Original vampires, but subverted when it is shown that he has a fairly decent arrangement with the humans of the Quarter.
  • Enemy Mine: With Father Kieran. Though Kieran doesn't particularly like Marcel, he once came to him for help when the witches were planning on slaughtering four girls for the Harvest ceremony. Despite the strained relationship, Marcel actually thinks of Kieran as a friend.
    • His ongoing relationship with the Mikaelsons tends to go like this. One moment they are plotting against each other, the next a mutual interest or common enemy leads them to working with one another.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: He won't feed on children and he is openly disgusted by the witches' plans to slaughter their daughters to gain more power. It then turns out, he isn't evil at all and is one the more moral vampires of the show.
    • Also, he doesn't believe in wholesale slaughter of innocents no matter how hungry you are. Because even immortals have to live by a code...
  • A Father to His Men: Considers himself this to his soldiers. Made more evident when his soldiers turned down Klaus offer to switch sides. Also made evident when he decided to bend his knee in surrender rather than go down fighting, in order to save his outmatched soldiers.
  • Good All Along: Played straight and subverted; Marcel wants to control the witches and prevent them from doing magic because they were willing to sacrifice four teenage girls (and did successfully sacrifice three) as well as hexing a young man to go on a killing spree. Marcel is obviously disgusted by the act, and this disgust at what they did certainly played a role in his rescue of Davina and the restrictions on witchcraft.
    • He has shown more traits to show that he is this. So far it's mostly played straight, he was not willing to feed on the innocent or allow his vampires to do so when they were all extremely starving, and he absolutely refused to feed on his own men back in WW1.
  • The Good King: Tends to be fair, if stern. And is willing to swallow his pride and swear his loyalty to Klaus, in order to stop the slaughter of his people.
  • Has a Type: Blondes, possible due to his first love Rebekah.
  • Hero Antagonist: While 'hero' is a bit of a stretch, it's not hard to imagine how Marcel could be seen as a more heroic figure than Klaus or the witches. From Marcel's point of view, he's a vampire king with loyal followers who he treats like extended family, an adopted daughter he loves and saved, running a city in a fairly legitimate (for a vampire) fashion that doesn't clearly disadvantage the humans. His rivals are the witches who are willing to sacrifice teenage girls for power and his sire and father-figure Klaus, who is sadistic, volatile and prefers to rule by fear rather than respect. Marcel has never turned off his switch or gone on a killing rampage for fun.
  • Heroic Willpower: Starving and driven half mad from a Werewolf bite, Marcel manages to control himself enough to both save Kol, as well as prevent a human massacre with a mixture of raw will and charisma.
  • I Control My Minions Through...: Loyalty, apparently. Most of them respect Marcel and the city he has maintained and/or love him because he saved their lives (like Thierry).
  • I Choose to Stay: When Rebekah decides to leave town. Marcel, despite being Exiled and losing his power base, decides to stay to fight for his home.
  • I Hate You, Vampire Dad: Zig-zagged with Klaus. Though he expresses some resentment with his father-figure he also appears to genuinely care for him.
  • Knight in Shining Armor/The Champion: Towards Davina, after he rescued her from the witches. This is even lampshaded by Klaus.
  • Like a Son to Me: Marcel was this to Klaus, and Marcel has his own "child" in Davina.
  • Ninja Pirate Zombie Robot: In season 3 he becomes the same kind of hybrid as Lucien having werewolf venom that can kill an original.
  • Pet the Dog: Towards Davina, especially after he saved her from the witches. Also, towards Josh, though this isn't entirely out of altruism. Also towards Hayley, when he discovered alone after her parents were slaughtered, instead of claiming her as a bargaining chip against the Werewolves, he attempted to send her away to safety.
  • Pragmatic Villainy: While he is more than happy to organize a feeding frenzy to keep his Nightwalkers happy, he is practical enough to keep their meals alive and then heal, mindwipe, and release them. After all you can't keep feeding on tourists if they stop coming to town. Also, while he knows the Originals are a threat, he prefers to hold going against them unless he really has to, or he has an edge on them. It's also revealed that he has an (apparently fairly successful) arrangement with the humans of the French Quarter that allows him and his vampires to operate but also keeps the humans (relatively) safe.
  • Secret Test of Character: He secretly drinks the blood that will turn him into an Original Hybrid and acts like he is about to drink it in front of Klaus and Elijah to see whether or not they'll kill him. If they do, he will enact a plan to get them out of New Orleans. Of course, it is Elijah who kills him out of the fear that he will enact the prophecy on his family.
  • Super-Strength: All vampires have super strength as part of their nature, but it usually depends on age as the older they get the stronger they become. Marcel is notable for being exceptionally strong for his age: he is barely two hundred years old, give or take and was able to very briefly dominate the fight between him and Klaus in the penultimate episode of season one. Marcel's punches were able to greatly stagger Klaus and make bleed, which along with a Pet the Dog moment, allows Marcel to save Josh from Klaus' bite.
    • His strength is first demonstrated against Klaus in episode 11 of season one where Klaus talks about sacrificing Davina. Marcel hears it and will have none of it, so he jumps from a balcony and punches Klaus so hard that he topples and almost floors him, were it not for Klaus' hand hitting the floor first.
    • Another show of Marcel's strength is when he faces Mikael to protect Cami, he unleashes a series of combos that drive Mikael back. Mikael however, being an Original stronger than Klaus, shrugs it off and effortlessly floors Marcel. Points for trying and for succeeding in keeping him busy until back up came.
    • In season three, he impresses an Elder vampire (at least six hundred years old) with his fighting spirit. She even compliments him before knocking him out.
    • At the end of season three Marcel has become the current strongest Vampire, able to take on multiple Originals with ease, the only other vampires stronger, Lucien and Mikael, being dead.
  • The Power of Love: Marcel claims this is the reason his followers are so loyal to him despite Klaus' superior strength.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: To Klaus, after Marcel is forced to turn over his kingdom to the hybrid. Marcel says that Klaus will never have the loyal followers Marcel does, because Klaus tries to force love out of people. Marcel adds that while Klaus taught him many things, he had to figure out for himself that loyalty is both respect and love, because Klaus himself has never understood this.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: Generally, yes. He's a competent and approachable leader, and though he's strict about his rules his subjects seem exceptionally loyal to him.
  • Strong as They Need to Be: At first, he was shown to be stronger than Klaus, Elijah, and Kol after turning into the Beast and easily overpowers them. Later on, though, the Originals one way or another prove to be an actual challenge. Elijah was able to hold him on his own and even get some shots in, Klaus repeatedly came close to stabbing him with Freya's knife, and Rebekah of all people manages to get the drop on him and take the stake he was holding while Marcel was clearly off-guard.
  • The Men First: Shown when he bowed to Klaus rather than lose any more of his people. Also in WW1 when looking after the soldiers in his battalion.
  • Vampire Monarch: An assumed position (Marcel took the reigns after the Originals fled the Quarter), but his rule is stable and his followers are loyal.
  • Wouldn't Hurt a Child: Marcel has a soft spot for children, and would never hurt them.
  • The Worf Effect: To show just how powerful the Hollow is, Marcel, the current strongest vampire alive, is helpless before her magic and gets repeatedly curb-stomped. Even simply fractions of her power can take him down, and he only gets out of it whenever her followers use their master's power against him because he had help.
  • World's Strongest Man: After he becomes the Beast, Marcel is the current most powerful vampire in existence and can easily take down multiple Originals. That said, it's obvious Lucien as the Beast and Mikael exceeds him. We also never see Klaus use his full powers against him, so it's never clear who would win in an all-out fight. Still, with Klaus, Lucien, and Mikael dead, Marcel is the current most physically powerful being alive.

Witches

    Vincent Griffith

Vincent Griffith

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/vincentseason3.jpg
"That's just it, what do I say? Am I just supposed to feel bad for these people that I hurt? Am I supposed to feel guilty for this."
Played By: Yusef Gatewood

Vincent: "Is that what you think heartache feels like, Eva? Oh, but you have no idea. I wanted to rip my own heart out every time I woke so I couldn't feel what you did to me! That bone-deep hurt, knowing that I could not save them kids from you. The woman I loved more than my own life."

A Treme witch who was possessed by Finn Mikaelson. Vincent is a retired witch who was said to be equal in power to Eva Sinclair, who turned out to be his wife.

  • The Confidant: He and Cami are that to each other.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Has a keen dry wit when dealing with the supernatural dramatics he finds himself caught up in, usually against his will.
  • Grand Theft Me: He's horrified to discover what Finn had been up to in his body after getting it back.
  • The Good King: In a series of anti-heroes and anti-villain's , Vincent stands out for being one of truly good people in the quarter with the power and desire to fight to maintain peace in the Quarter, and defend unknowing citizenry of New Orleans. While his subjects the Witches faction are more then happy to focus on their own powerplays and protection. Vincent goes out of his way to keep the peace between the Vampire's and Werewolves, ( despite his misgivings) and to keep the peace between the three factions. Vincent cares deeply for his subjects, and is genuinely respected for his actions against the Hollow and it's cult. As well as rescuing the Coven's abducted children from the cult who intended to sacrifice them for the "greater good."
  • Heartbroken Badass: Vincent is the most formidable witch in New Orleans, able to curb-stomp an Original and be nominated Regent. However his finding out that the love of his life Eva Sinclair was killing innocent people, and planning to sacrifice children led him becoming disillusioned and quitting witchcraft in general. Being forced to bring her in himself didn't help any.
  • It's All My Fault: In Season 4 it is revealed that back when Marcel was running the city Vincent contacted the dark spirit known as the Hollow to try and gain the power to defeat him. His wife Eva ended up following in his footsteps which led her down her dark path. He has never fully forgiven himself for that. Likewise he is horrified to discover that by cutting of the Ancestors in the previous season he inadvertently allowed the Hollow to return to New Orleans.
  • Living MacGuffin: The French Quarter witches demand his return to lift their vendetta against the witch that Rebekah is currently inhabiting.
  • The Mentor: Is this for Davina during the last episodes of season two.
  • Odd Friendship: He and Freya are very close with one another and affectionate. Vincent has a very strong moral code refusing to kill unnecessary which lead him rejecting the Hollows offer of power. Freya is more flexible willing to kill, betray, torture and maim in the name of family. Despite this they kept New Orleans in check while the Originals where exiled working closely together and are more then happy to call out each others bull from time to time.
  • Only Sane Man: While a majority of the witches spend their time focusing on themselves and their cold war with the vampires and werewolves, Vincent actively works with the police to head off any supernatural threat that could threaten both humans and witches. He is also aware of the power games the witches play amongst themselves and stays very far away from them.
  • Refusal of the Call: He's extremely reluctant to lead the covens after forcing Davina into exile. He only changes his mind after Marcel calls him out.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: He often dishes them out to the Mikaelsons when they do something reprehensible and is right every time.
  • The Shrink: Is actually a qualified psychologist.
  • Screw This, I'm Out of Here!: Nine months prior he retired from the Treme Coven, choosing to avoid the Supernatural elements in New Orleans altogether, something he recommends to Cami. May or may not be connected to his wife going on a killing spree.
  • Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: Vincent is not particularly fond of either Marcel or the Mikaelsons considering all of their various misdeeds but he is willing to work with them when a greater threat arises.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: Vincent is inadvertently responsible for the series of events that led to Season 4 happening. Back when Marcel was persecuting witches he struck a deal with the dark spirit the Hollow in order to gain enough power to take him down. After seeing it corrupt his wife however he choose to stop using its power. Unfortunately by contacting the Hollow he woke it up. And when he helped destroy the Ancestor's tether to the mortal realm at the end of Season 3 it allowed the Hollow to return and spread its evil across New Orleans.

    Sophie Deveraux

Sophie Deveraux

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/devereaux_sophie_7855.jpg
"I have nothing to lose."
Played By: Daniella Pineda

Sophie: "I lost my faith. Then I realized that if I didn't believe, I would be letting you down. I tried to get it back. I tried."

One of the more prominent witches in New Orleans. In the past, she was a light-hearted girl who enjoyed partying and didn't care much for witchcraft. However, 8 months before the start of the series, she watched her niece, Monique Deveraux, die in The Harvest, a sacrificial ritual that allows the witches in New Orleans to draw power from their ancestors. After that, she became more serious, obsessed with the goal of killing Davina so she can complete the ritual and bring her niece back from the dead. Sophie has made it clear that she will do whatever it takes to reach her goal, which makes her dangerous to have as an enemy.

  • Ambiguously Bi: A flashback shows her drunkenly kissing a girl.
  • Disc-One Final Boss: She's killed by her own niece halfway through Season 1.
  • Evil All Along: Though in practice, she's just showing that this show is filled to the brim with Black-and-Gray Morality and Gray-and-Gray Morality. "Evil" is an extreme way to describe her. Her plan has been to kill Davina, but only to complete The Harvest, which she believed would return the sacrificed witches, including her niece. She's lied through her teeth that Marcel was a tyrant and that the witches were oppressed.
  • Hot-Blooded: Sophie is a pretty angry person.
  • It's Personal: While her actions are to free her people, she is also determined to make Marcel pay for killing her sister in the middle of the Old Quarter, though it may not be quite that simple.
  • My Greatest Failure: She didn't believe in the Harvest Ritual even though her sister, Jane-Anne did. Due to the events that happened, three girls died, including Monique, Jane-Anne's daughter, while Davina got away. If Davina doesn't die, then none of them will resurrect, meaning Jane-Anne sacrificed her daughter for nothing. It is to this end that the entire show's plot came to place. Jane-Anne gave her life so Sophie could find and kill Davina to bring back the sacrifices, including Monique, of whom is the reason Sophie is blaming herself for everything going wrong and the motivation for trying to fix it.
  • The Resistance: She represents the Witch's rebelling against Marcel, or so it seems, but it's really more complicated than that.
  • Took a Level in Badass: While originally a fun loving, partying borderline hippie who had a casual relationship with Marcel, she quickly became a highly competent witch who plays the Originals against Marcel in an almost fanatical single aim to hunt down and kill Davina. Due to her focus and determination, Elijah has labelled her one of the more dangerous players in the battle for New Orleans, because she is someone with nothing to lose.
  • Why Don't You Just Shoot Him?: Sophie is a bit puzzled as to why Klaus just doesn't rip out Marcel's heart on the spot. It takes Rebekah to reveal that Marcel is the nearest thing Klaus has to a son.

    Davina Claire

Davina Claire

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/clare_davina_8386.jpg
"I want to make them pay."
Played By: Danielle Campbell

Davina: "You think I'm normal? I'm a 16 year old witch living in a church attic like some kind of freak."

At the beginning, a sixteen year old witch Now 19 with a dark side. She's still learning the full extent of her powers and has Marcel as her protector. Davina is in hiding from the witches of the Quarter as they would want to kill her to complete The Harvest. In the meantime, her powers are too much for her to handle and can result a disaster, if they were to get out of control.

  • Abusive Parents: Her mother was willing to let her be sacrificed for their own power, under the belief that they'd all resurrect afterward, although no one knows for sure if that last part is true.
  • Accidental Public Confession: How Vincent tricks her into revealing her part in the massacre of the Ninth Ward witches.
  • A Child Shall Lead Them: Becomes Regent of the New Orleans covens by the end of season two.
  • All of the Other Reindeer: Helping Marcel suppress the witches in season one - and her continued support/sympathy to both Marcel and the Originals in season two - has left her with no allies in her own community. Even as Regent, she has to be careful if she so much as speaks to Marcel, in case she's labelled a traitor. Becomes even worse when she's shunned.
  • Back from the Dead: She's killed by Sophie for the Harvest, but thanks to Marcel, she's resurrected.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: Davina is a very sweet and considerate girl with a caring nature, but cross her or her friends and you will absolutely regret it.
  • Berserk Button: Davina really hates it when someone lies and manipulates her, because this is what the witches did to her by not telling her that their plan was to sacrifice her life in the Harvest. This is also part of the reason she hates and distrusts the Mikaelsons who have all lied and manipulated her to meet their goals. The first one being Elijah who promised her his mother's spell book but only gives her a few pages and his original plan was to only have her learn a few spells so that she could use a spell that would break the spell that linked Haley to Sophie, but they are able to convince Sophie to do it herself. Also, Elijah was using exact words to postpone giving her the whole book and even then, it is not clear if he was ever going to give it to her at all or he was going to but was sidetracked by everything going on at the time. Either way he gets punished for his dishonesty by Davina causing him to choke on his own blood.
  • The Chosen One: Davina is the key to the Harvest, a ritual that will ensure the witches reconnect with their ancestors' spirits and will thereby enhance their powers. However, Davina has to die for the Harvest to be completed.
  • Cute Witch: A pretty, powerful witch and the youngest of the main characters. She can qualify as a Hot Witch since she's in her late teens.
  • Dating What Daddy Hates: She's very close to Kaleb... aka Kol Mikaelson. To say Marcel is upset by this would be an understatement.
  • Deal with the Devil: She agrees to become a Sister - young witches who serve the Strix - in exchange for a spell that can bring Kol back to life.
  • Death Glare: When she hits you with it, you will go flying, making it an almost literal death glare.
  • Disappeared Dad: Her dad walked out on her shortly after she was born.
  • The Dragon: To Marcel, for a time. She was his secret weapon and the method by which he was able to become even more powerful and the vampires became the dominant supernatural force in New Orleans.
    • Though the situation was more blurred than that, while she was helping him, hurting the witches was her own personal request as she wanted revenge. "You know what I really want Marcel? I want them to pay."
  • The Exile: Her leadership over the covens doesn't last long when Vincent tricks her into revealing she purposefully set Hayley on a fellow witch. As punishment she's exiled from the witch community and cut off from her ancestors' magic.
  • Fate Worse than Death: Her fate thanks to Elijah and Freya. After her death her soul was placed in the Ancestor lands so Kol and Vincent could bring her back. However, in order to steal power from the ancestors to kill Lucian, Freya and Elijah conspired to take away her protection leaving her trapped and at their mercy. Later after being tortured by them she manages to cut off the ancestors from the land of the living. Word Of G Od says that Davina is still alive, but if so she is currently trapped for all time with a horde of pissed off witches who will torture her forever.
  • Genius Bruiser: In addition to her vast power, Davina is very smart, knowing which spells to use at the right time. She seems to be the only witch who thinks rationally.
    • Davina beats Klaus for the second time this way as well, using a spell to poison her blood.
  • Girl in the Tower: Or church attic to be precise. Marcel kept her locked up both to safeguard her from the other witches and people who would take advantage of her power and to protect to outside world should she lose control.
    • Davina wasn't locked up though, if she wanted to leave all she had to was ask Marcel, who doted on her. Strangely, some characters such as Kieran, thought this.
  • Hair-Trigger Temper: Considering all she's been through and the numerous betrayals she's endured, it's little wonder she can be rather short-tempered at times.
  • Hunter of His Own Kind: She's a witch who helps Marcel keep the other witches in line by sensing if, when, and where they do magic. Turns out that she has pretty good reason for being one, too.
  • Happily Married: To Kol.
  • I Just Want to Be Normal: She expresses this desire to Elijah. Turns out, having uncontrollable power gained from the ritual sacrifice of her friends isn't exactly something she enjoys.
  • It's Personal: Her alliance with Marcel due to the fact that witches slaughtered her friends and she wants to make them suffer.
  • Kid with the Leash: As of the Season One Finale, she becomes this after resurrecting Mikael and holding him prisoner.
    • And again in season three, after she suspends the Crescent Curse over Hayley and what's left of her pack.
  • Little Miss Badass: She's the youngest main character...and perhaps the most dangerous.
  • Love Makes You Dumb: She'll do anything to bring Kol back. Even if it means agreeing to work for a group of highly dangerous elder vampires who are even less trustworthy than Klaus.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Her plan to take out the witch who attacked and undermined her inadvertently leads to a massacre of most of the Ninth Ward witches. She's understandably shaken and guilt-ridden, even moreso when the witch's son vows to take revenge for his mother's death.
  • Mysterious Waif: Initially, before her nature was revealed.
  • Pint-Sized Powerhouse: What she lacks in height she makes up for power. She can easily throw around an Original like a rag doll and mind wipe them for equal measure. She gained this power by involuntarily absorbing the power of the three Witch girls that were slaughtered in the Harvest Ritual right before Marcel took her away. She effortlessly beats Klaus and Elijah, making the former start to turn into a wolf against his will and making the latter choke on a thousand years' worth of blood. She then knocks them out.
    • Despite being reduced to a "normal" witch, she is still high in power, being stronger than Kaleb, and Klaus still considers her powerful.
  • Screw Destiny: The reason she helps Marcel keep the Witches in line. She was chosen to sacrifice herself along with three other girls in a Harvest Ritual that was to keep the New Orleans Witches in contact with their Ancestral Magic. Though they downplayed the killing part, it was supposed to lead to their resurrection. Though such a promise means little in the face of traumatic slaughter with no real guarantee they'd come back alive, so you could imagine her reasons for fighting that fate once she learned the truth.
  • Sugar-and-Ice Personality: Though she often appears aloof and cold, she has been shown to soften around people she knows better (especially Marcel, her childhood friend Tim, and Josh).
  • Took a Level in Jerkass: She understandably becomes colder and more ruthless after three seasons of power-plays and temporary alliances with the Originals, Marcel and his crew and the other witches.
  • Tough Leader Façade: She carries an imperfect facade of authority as Regent, but inside she's painfully aware of how tenuous her rule over the Covens is, and frequently goes to Marcel for advice on how to keep the witches in line.
  • When She Smiles: Understandably, she tends to wear a suspicious scowl when around strangers. Also, the Ice aspect of her personality makes her seem cool and aloof. However, when she smiles and laughs you remember she's just a teenager looking for some kind of normal.
  • Unskilled, but Strong: Very powerful, but lacks in skill due to her youth and the circumstances she came to gain her powers in the first place.
    • Thanks to Elijah and some time and growth, she becomes savvier and more skilled. Even after being depowered, she remains a strong witch and is even smarter, defeating Klaus by preying on his flaws.
  • Weak, but Skilled: After being forced to complete the Harvest Ritual. She's got the same Came Back Strong power boost as the other girls, but it pales in comparison to her previous level. She's gotten a lot more skilled at using it however, managing to bind Mikael. And as of Season 2 she's pulling off cloaking spells good enough to hide from Esther, and she's getting close to figuring out how to break Mikael's sire bond and kill him without killing off his entire family. All while managing high school and fighting off werewolves four to one.
  • Young Conqueror: She decides to become Regent for the one off chance to resurrect Kol. Instead Rebekah and Elijah deceive her into resurrecting Esther instead Furious at them tricking her, Davina declares war on the Mikaelsons. Vincent notes that without guidance, Davina could very well become 'the wickedest [witch] of them all.'

"People are not awful. They want to be good. Something makes them bad, makes them snap."
Played By: Leah Pipes

Cami: "I didn't come here to appreciate art. If you want to talk about your progress as a person striving for empathy, fine. If not? I'll go."

A bartender and psychology student who begins the series with no knowledge of the supernatural world. She is drawn to Klaus and is the object of Marcel's affections. Smart, brave, and obsessed with the line between good and evil, she quickly becomes entrapped in the war between the vampires in New Orleans. Her motivation for finding out what makes a person good or evil and the primary reason she returns to New Orleans is to find out why her twin brother Sean went mad and slaughtered all the people in his choir and then himself, especially since Sean had no signs of mental breakdown or anything of the sort before it happened.

  • Action Survivor: She is the Token Human in the series and therefore, she does not possess any special powers or abilities, other than her intelligence and her brains. She could also be considered a Badass Bookworm. Despite being the only human in the series, she is still able to defend herself when she has to against all of the supernatural beings that surround her. Cami is pretty badass enough that she's even stood up to Klaus on plenty of occasions.
  • All Girls Want Bad Boys: Her relationships with both Klaus and Marcel. Cami has shown an attraction to Marcel and has engaged in a sexual relationship with him. Cami also has a strong connection with Klaus and has shown that she is strongly attracted to him despite the fact that Klaus has continuously committed evil and immoral deeds. However, Camille has shown that she does bring out a much kinder and softer side of Klaus' personality and it could be argued that Cami is Klaus' humanity.
  • All-Loving Hero: Cami is always trying to see the good in everyone. She is kind, caring and compassionate. She has also shown that she has a soft spot for Klaus and cares about him, despite all the immoral and evil acts that he has committed. She constantly gives Klaus second and third and fourth chances and she believes that Klaus is not truly evil and that there is still goodness inside of him no matter how much he tries to run from it or hide it. She has extended and shown compassion towards Klaus and has been there for him in times of need and support. Cami is The Conscience and a Morality Pet for Klaus and Klaus always comes to Cami whenever he needs to have a heart to heart or needs to get something off of his chest. The fact that Cami has such qualities of over optimism and belief in someone like Klaus shows that she is very determined and refuses to give up on people when she believes deep down that they are capable of being good if they choose to do so. This does however result in Camille coming off as overly idealistic and naive.
  • Angsty Surviving Twin: Her twin brother Sean committed suicide (after committing genocide as well). Because of this, Cami has consistently angsted about her brother and his death and has come off as distant, icy and aloof at first. She later starts to mellow out and become much warmer once she starts to accept the tragedy that happened to her brother.
  • Badass Adorable: She has her moments. Cami is very loveable, kind and endearing. She is also extremely quirky, nerdy and offbeat but she has also proved to be an Action Survivor who is a bit of a badass and is more than capable of standing up for herself when she needs to be. She has even stood up to Klaus of all people and has put him in his place, meaning that Cami, when angered, is NOT to be underestimated by any means. Even though she is a mere human girl with no powers, she has shown that she is very brave.
  • Badass Bookworm: She's intelligent and scholarly. She is always shown to be studying, reading or analyzing. She often depends on her intelligence and her brains in order to achieve her goals instead of resorting to violence or force. Cami is shown that she is not physically imposing or intimidating. Despite being a bookworm and a nerd, she has shown that she is a very strong willed person and she can stand up for herself when she has to. She also has no superhuman abilities and is therefore subjected to using her brains, intellect and intelligence to achieve her goals and agenda.
  • Badass Normal: Cami is a Token Human within a series filled with supernatural beings yet she has shown that she is highly capable of defending herself and fighting for her own safety when she has to. Despite being a bit of a Damsel in Distress in the beginning and needing her supernatural male suitors to look out for her, protect her or save her from time to time, Cami has become significantly braver and more badass as the series has gone on. She goes from a Damsel in Distress to someone who is more of an Action Survivor who is capable of keeping up with the supernatural beings around her. Cami is not much of an Action Girl since she does not have abilities that allow her to defend herself during combat but she is more of a Badass Bookworm, using her brains and intelligence to solve problems and achieve her goals and agenda.
  • The Bartender: Exactly What It Says on the Tin. Camille is a bartender for a living, along with being a psychology student.
  • Belligerent Sexual Tension: With Klaus and Marcel. Cami has shown a sexual attraction to the both of them and she is drawn to both of them in different ways. Cami has had a sexual affair with Marcel (which caused Klaus to become jealous). Cami also seems to be Marcel's type physically, as she is blonde and beautiful (like Marcel's first love, Rebekah). Cami also has a strong connection with Klaus and there is an obvious spark between them. Klaus obvious deeply cares about Cami as he has gone out of his way to protect her as much as possible. Cami also has a tendency to bring out the much kinder and caring side of Klaus, something that Klaus does not show to often around many other people (other than Rebekah, Elijah, Stefan and Caroline). There is so much pent up sexual tension between Klaus and Cami that they have officially veered into the Will They or Won't They? territory.
  • Betty and Veronica: Cami is the Betty to Rebekah's Veronica for Marcel's Archie. Marcel was first in a relationship with Rebekah, as Rebekah was Marcel's First Love. Cami, on the other hand is extremely good friends with Marcel and was engaged in a sexual relationship with him and there are still unresolved feelings between the two. Marcel has Belligerent Sexual Tension with both Rebekah and Camille. Rebekah is the Alpha Bitch and Camille is the Nice Girl. There might also be a triangle shaping up between Camille, Klaus and Marcel with arguably Cami is the Archie to Marcel's Betty and Klaus' Veronica. Cami is very good friends with both men and has proven to be their Morality Pet. Cami has shown that she turns to Marcel in times of emotional comfort or support and Marcel does the same with her. Klaus has also shown that he has possibly deep (romantic) feelings for Cami as he is very protective of her and became angry when he discovered that Cami had slept with Marcel, going so far as to threaten to kill Marcel to Cami's face. It is unclear what the status of Klaus and Cami's relationship is but what is obvious is the Belligerent Sexual Tension between them, so much that they have gone into Will They or Won't They? territory.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: Cami is a Nice Girl but don't piss her off. She will say exactly what is on her mind. She is normally a very understanding and compassionate person but if you so much as push her buttons, she will fight back and she will let you have it with words... and sometimes with a slap. Cami has told off Klaus numerous times and she has told him exactly what is on her mind. Cami's spunkiness and feistiness might be some of the reasons or qualities of why Klaus is drawn to her in the first place.
  • Bookworm: Camille loves to read. She almost always has her head in a book of some sorts. She is The Smart Girl and a Badass Bookworm, so it is understandable why she likes reading so much. It is from reading books that she gains and garners all the knowledge that allows her to spout of random facts about psychology and psychobabble. Understandable, considering she is a psych student.
  • Break the Cutie/Broken Bird: Despite Cami being optimistic, happy go lucky and naive and idealistic, there are times when she comes off as aloof and cynical. This is because she has a Dark and Troubled Past. At first, she comes off as emotionally detached and distant and she seems to have a habit of pushing others away. The reason for this is because her twin brother Sean had died, after which she was forever changed and she became severely depressed and hopeless. She never fully recovered from the loss. Despite this, Cami has also shown that she is very loving, kind, caring and compassionate towards other people and she has sympathized with others who have endured or experienced loss or gone through the process of grief themselves, such as Klaus for example. She has shown that she has empathy for Klaus as she learns to understand his troubles and his background and how he endured much suffering and abuse. Still, Cami does have moments of sadness and cynicism despite being the eternal optimist. Understandable considering the pain and heartache that she has gone through.
  • Brooding Boy, Gentle Girl: Camille is the Gentle Girl to Klaus' Brooding Boy. Klaus is a cynical Byronic Hero who has a very Dark and Troubled Past. He is sociopathic, dark and sinister in personality and he broods a lot because he comes from such a dysfunctional background. Klaus is obviously filled with much darkness and has many demons. Cami, on the hand, is a Nice Girl and a Girl Next Door, who is generally kind, compassionate, caring and understanding. Despite having her own inner demons and having suffered her own pain and trauma, Cami is still the Plucky Girl who still remains optimistic regardless, which serves as a bit of a foil for Klaus. Cami has shown that she brings out the nicer and kinder side of Klaus' personality and even manages to make a generally brooding Klaus crack a smile from time to time.
  • Brutal Honesty: Wastes no time in telling Klaus exactly what she thinks of him, and never sugarcoats her opinion, even when being used by him as a compelled spy. When it comes to Klaus, she never hides the truth and she is extremely straightforward with him, sometimes to the point of excessive bluntness. However, Cami's bluntness and frankness with Klaus seems to have an effect on Klaus' personality and he does take what Cami says into account. Camille is very feisty and spunky and she is also very opinionated. For such a Nice Girl, she sure has a lot of spunk and fire inside of her. Camille is also capable of being incredibly sarcastic and snide.
  • Canon Foreigner: Camille is an original character who did not exist in the original series, The Vampire Diaries.
  • The Conscience: She is this for Klaus, along with The Heart and his Morality Pet. Cami is a moral touchstone for Klaus. She often reminds him of his immoral behaviour and about doing the right and wrong thing. If Klaus does something immoral or something that Cami does not agreed with, she will NOT hesitate to speak her mind, tell Klaus what she feels and put Klaus in his place with her words. Despite the fact that Cami has the potential to be rather blunt with Klaus, she has also shown that she is very compassionate and empathetic towards Klaus and his struggles. She has continuously gone out of her way to be there for him, befriend him and offer him emotional comfort and support. If it is not his brother Elijah that he turns to, it is almost always Cami that Klaus turns to during times of need and support. It is also very evident that Cami has a strong influence on Klaus and his actions and that she brings out a gentler and kinder side of his personality. Cami has shown that she is Klaus' humanity.
  • Constantly Curious: One of Cami's biggest flaws is the fact that she is always curious about everything. Sometimes her curiosity gets the best of her and it manages to get her into trouble. Cami has a habit of being too nosy at times and sticking her nose in things that she has no business sticking her nose into. It's understandable why Cami would want to find out everything, learn everything and analyze everything she ends up finding out, since she is a psychology major and making discoveries and analyzing those discoveries is part of her personality. Once she finds out something of importance or something that she is passionate about, she becomes quite The Determinator and she never gives up until she finds out the truth or meaning behind everything.
  • Cute Bookworm: Cami is cute, nerdy, intelligent and brainy. She reads and studies a lot and she is also The Smart Girl. She always has her head in a book of some sorts, is always analyzing something or researching something, and she engages in psychobabble. Not to mention that she is also always ready to spout of facts about psychology. Comes with being a psych student.
  • Cute Clumsy Girl: Not that Camille is really physically clumsy per se, but she is a little clumsy in her mannerisms. Not to mention that her constant curiosity ends up getting herself into serious trouble. She is also energetic and a bit of a Genki Girl who has a classic case of Motor Mouth and when she starts talking, she can't stop which sometimes leads her to say things that she really should not be saying. And sometimes she says things at the wrong time, which leads to even more trouble.
  • The Cutie: Cami is very loveable and endearing. She has been through so much tragedy that she is pretty much a broken soul and everyone that she loved and cared about has died on her. Despite this, Camille still finds the strength and the will to fight and to keep going no matter what. She still retains her optimism and her ability to see the good in situations and the good in other people. Her relationship and her interactions with Klaus are very tender and heartwarming and she is seen to bring out the much warmer and kinder side of Klaus' personality. That, in itself, makes Cami loveable.
  • Damsel in Distress: Since Cami is the Token Human who has no superhuman abilities, she often requires saving from time to time, mostly by Klaus or Marcel.
  • Damsel out of Distress: As the series progresses, Cami has shown that even though she is not an Action Girl, she is more of an Action Survivor, using her brains and intelligence to survive amidst a world of supernatural beings and circumstances. She is also capable of keeping her cool and she is good under pressure.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: Part of the reason why she came off so aloof at first was because she had suffered great loss and tragedy. Her twin brother Sean had committed genocide when he killed his fellow seminary students and then committed suicide, all because he was being hexed by a witch. A witch named Agnes had put a hex on him for revenge to get back at his Uncle Kieran for telling off the witches. As a result of being hexed by Agnes, Sean slowly started go crazy. What is sad about the entire thing was that Sean was innocent in all of this and was hexed because of something he didn't even do. As a result, he ended up slaughtering innocents and taking his own life. And Camille lost a family member in the process. It is no wonder that Cami came off so distant when the show first began, as she had suffered the trauma of losing the brother that she loved so much.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Cami can be very sarcastic and snide, especially when she is angered or irritated. She also throws in an occasional witty line or two. Most of her sarcasm and snide comments and remarks often come in handy whenever she is interacting with Klaus. This often results in Snark-to-Snark Combat or Slap-Slap-Kiss between the two of them. The sarcastic and snide comments between Klaus and Camille are also a result of the Belligerent Sexual Tension between the two of them as well.
  • Defrosting the Ice Queen: Originally, Cami starts off as distant, aloof and withdrawn. She's not mean or anything, but she is a little standoffish due to various events in her past. When your twin brother commits mass genocide by slaughtering a bunch of innocent people for unexplained reasons and then commits suicide by killing himself afterwards, it's understandable why you don't want to get close to anyone or even open up about your issues. Despite this, eventually, Camille starts to open up more about her problems and her dark past and in doing so, she becomes much warmer and reveals the kind, compassionate and caring person that was hidden underneath her standoffish facade.
  • The Determinator: Even Klaus says that Camille's tenacity is one of the things he loves most about Camille.
  • Distaff Counterpart: Cami is basically the female version of Matt Donovan (from The Vampire Diaries). Both Cami and Matt are Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold and have Innocent Blue Eyes. Both Cami and Matt are the Token Human of their respective series. Matt is the classic Nice Guy and Cami is the classic Nice Girl. Matt is the Boy Next Door and Cami is the Girl Next Door. Both Cami and Matt also like to see the good in everyone as much as possible.
  • Do Not Call Me "Paul": Hates being called Camille and prefers to be called Cami instead, as she feels that her name is a "grandma's name". Everyone in the show seems to call her Cami.
  • Eating the Eye Candy: In regards to both Klaus and Marcel. Cami is seen checking out both Marcel and Klaus and she has an obvious physical and sexual attraction to both of them, although she has never outright said it. She has shown that she is drawn to both men and she has even engaged in a sexual relationship with Marcel, much to Klaus' dismay. Honestly, who can blame Cami for gawking at them or checking them both out? Just look at the two of them.
  • Everyone Loves Blondes: Camille is beautiful, blonde and intelligent. And she seems to have captured the attention (and the hearts) of both Marcel and Klaus. She seems to be a target for the affections of both Klaus and Marcel because both of them have a type, as both Klaus and Marcel have a tendency to show fondness and have a thing for blond haired girls with blue eyes. Klaus seems to have a preference for girls or women who show a physical resemblance to his sister Rebekah, such as his infatuation with Caroline. Marcel also has a preference for blondes because his First Love Rebekah was a blonde. Despite the fact that Cami is a blonde, she is more of the Girl Next Door type and not the sexy Femme Fatale type of blonde. Despite this, she still has the attention of the two major male characters in the show. Cami also breaks the stereotype of being blonde and being The Ditz, Book Dumb, the Dumb Blonde and the Brainless Beauty, since she is none of those things and is instead, a blonde and The Smart Girl, a Badass Bookworm and Nerds Are Sexy all rolled into one.
  • Expy: Of Caroline Forbes. Both are blonde haired and blue eyed, although Camille is more of The Smart Girl while Caroline is more of The Ditz and the Dumb Blonde. Camille is also more of the Nice Girl and Caroline is more of the Lovable Alpha Bitch. Both Cami and Caroline are passionate, outspoken, spunky and both stand up to Klaus and call him out on his behaviour. Both Camille and Caroline are also a Morality Pet to Klaus and they both bring out Klaus' much kinder side and bring out his humanity. Both Camille and Caroline are also incredibly idealistic and naive from time to time. Also, the only major difference between Camille and Caroline is that Cami is a human while Caroline is a vampire, although like Cami, Caroline also originally started out as a naive, gullible and idealistic human girl.
  • Foil/Good Counterpart: To Rebekah. Both are blonde, smart, spunky and passionate. However, Cami is a Nice Girl while Rebekah is an Alpha Bitch. Camille is also a human while Rebekah is an Original vampire. Camille is more of The Heroine or Anti-Hero archetype while Rebekah is more of an Anti-Villain archetype. Camille is more kind, caring, compassionate and understanding while Rebekah is more immoral, cold, bitchy and ruthless. Both Cami and Rebekah seem to have a strong love of family and will do anything and everything to protect them. Camille is more of a nerdy girl who loves reading and studying and Rebekah is more of a ditzy girl who loves fashion and chasing the opposite sex. Both have shown an interest and attraction to Marcel and both have engaged in a sexual relationship with him. Both have a love hate relationship with Klaus, although both Cami and Rebekah also manage to serve as Morality Pets for Klaus and bring out the much kinder and softer side of Klaus' personality. Klaus has also shown that he is extremely jealous and possessive over both Cami and Rebekah.
  • Freudian Trio: Cami is the Ego (the balance, the mediator, The Heart) to Klaus' Id (emotional, hotheaded, passionate, Blood Knight) and Marcel's Superego (manipulative, calm, cool, The Stoic).
  • Genki Girl: Cami is rather high energy and loves talking, especially when she gets excited. She also has a classic case of Motor Mouth and when she gets excited, she seems to get overhyped to the point where she becomes full of so much energy that she might exhaust others around her.
  • Girl Next Door: Cami is a classic Nice Girl who is the Token Human of the series. She is also the casual blonde girl whom everyone would want to befriend.
  • Go-Getter Girl: Camille is very intelligent, scholarly and academic. She is a psychology student and she is the type to be ambitious and work hard. She devotes her time and effort into her studies and into things that she deems interesting. It could be because she herself has gone through much tragedy and trauma and because of this, she turns to focusing on her goals, dreams and aspirations in the form of studying and analyzing. Another reason Camille seems to be so focused on her academics and why she chose the field of psychology in particular is because she herself wonders about her own mind and her own psychosis. Although she is The Smart Girl and a Badass Bookworm who works hard at what she does, her passion for psychology is more than just about getting straight A's. Her passion for psychology could have a lot to do with wanting to conquer her own demons and learn about other people's demons as well. Camille has also shown that her love life takes a back seat to her studies and her education. However, Camille has shown that when she does find herself attracted to someone, they are most likely of a higher status, complex and very smart and intelligent (like Klaus and Marcel).
  • Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: Cami is blonde haired along with having Innocent Blue Eyes. Personality wise, she has consistently proven that she is a very compassionate, kind, caring and empathetic character who believes nobody is innately evil. She is clearly a very innocent spirit and she is also woefully naive and gullible. She is the classic Nice Girl and Damsel in Distress combined with Beauty Equals Goodness, The Heart, All-Loving Hero, The Ingenue, and Incorruptible Pure Pureness. Aside from being a compassionate and noble individual, Cami has also shown that she is very wholesome, sweet and modest. She also represents the human aspect of the series as she is the sole human character. However, even if she is the ultimate sweet and nice girl of the series, DO NOT push her buttons or provoke her for she can veer into Beware the Nice Ones territory. Even though Cami is generally nice and polite, she does not take crap from anyone, especially Klaus.
  • The Heart: Camille is the Token Human of the series and therefore, represents the human aspect of the story. Although it could be argued that Cami shares this role with Hayley, Cami is definitely the moral and human aspect of the story as she is a much more moral character than Hayley, who is more of an Anti-Hero that is morally grey. Cami is a compassionate, kind, caring and loving person who always tries to see the good side everyone, including the likes of a sociopathic and immoral character like Klaus. Camille constantly reminds Klaus and Marcel that there is more to life than personal vendettas and personal agendas that only benefit themselves instead of others. She also serves as a Morality Pet for both Marcel and Klaus and she brings out the softer side of their personalities. She also serves as The Conscience to Klaus, reminding him of his bad behaviour and about doing the wrong thing. She often advises him to think before he acts and gives him advice on how to approach things from a more diplomatic point of view instead of resorting to violence.
  • The Idealist: Camille is somewhat idealistic and naive by nature. She refuses to believe that there is pure evil in the world. Cami is the type of individual who believes that Humans Are Good and that supernatural beings also have the potential to be good if they try. Cami also tries to see the good in everyone, even if they don't deserve it, and she has shown that she is very naive when it comes to Klaus, even though she has called him out on his immoral behaviour plenty of times. She is also the Plucky Girl who is very optimistic and happy go lucky, despite the tragedy that she has gone through. Cami believes that no matter how evil someone may seem or how many immoral acts one commits, they are still capable of doing something good if they choose to do so.
  • The Ingenue: Cami has a very innocent, pure and naive quality about her. Probably because she is so idealistic and optimistic about life. She is woefully naive which make her an easy target for danger and for villainous characters, such as Marcel and Klaus, to take advantage of her. Not to mention that Cami is also the classic Token Human who is a Damsel in Distress and needs constant saving from her supernatural male suitors in Klaus and Marcel. Cami is also a blonde who is a Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold with Innocent Blue Eyes, which also adds to her innocence and purity. Personality wise, she has shown to be a noble, compassionate, caring and empathetic character who has managed to show kindness to villains like Klaus. She is also The Cutie, someone who is very loveable and endearing and The Pollyanna and the Plucky Girl, someone who has endured a lot of pain, suffering and tragedy yet has remained hopeful and optimistic regardless.
  • Innocent Blue Eyes: To match her Hair of Gold. Her eyes are very clear, innocent and honest, indicating a kind, noble, caring and compassionate person.
  • Interspecies Friendship: With Klaus. Camille is a human while Klaus is an Original Hybrid.
  • In-Series Nickname: Camille is often called Cami.
  • Killed Off for Real: She is bit by Lucien and eventually dies from the incurable werewolf venom.
  • Light Feminine and Dark Feminine: Cami is the Light Feminine to Rebekah's Dark Feminine. While Cami is a kind, compassionate, sensitive and empathetic person, Rebekah has shown that she is much more cold, icy, ruthless and immoral in nature.
  • Protagonist-Centered Morality : She is extremely quick to forgive the protagonists, especially Klaus, for their horrendous acts simply because they are nice to her and look out for her safety, even going so far as, for some reason, to openly state that they all deserve to be happy and deserve redemption ( even if none of them really care ) . Anyone else who wants to harm the Originals, she is irritatingly quick to declare them irredeemable monsters and want them dead, even though they are obviously much more moral than their friends .
  • Morality Chain: Seems to be this for BOTH Marcel and Klaus. Cami has been shown to bring out the kinder side of the much more violent and hot headed personalities of both Marcel and Klaus.
  • Morality Pet: For both Klaus and Marcel. She has shown that she brings out the humanity in both of them and that she has a strong impact on Klaus' personality. Cami brings out Klaus' humanity.
  • Motor Mouth: Sometimes when Camille gets going, she can't stop. Especially when it is something that she is either worried about, anxious about, passionate about or excited about. Cami will also go into her rants about psychobabble or she will also tend to keep talking when she is telling off Klaus for his behaviour. She is very similar to Caroline in this aspect.
  • Ms. Fanservice: Cami is blonde, intelligent, very beautiful and physically appealing. Although not the busty blonde type, she is more of the Nice Girl, The Cutie, and Nerds Are Sexy all rolled into one.
  • Muggle Best Friend: Could be considered this to Klaus. Klaus is a very powerful Original Hybrid (who is half vampire and half werewolf) who has superhuman abilities and Camille is a regular human girl who has no superhuman abilities.
  • Naïve Everygirl: Cami has shown that she is highly naive and idealistic in nature especially during the beginning. At the start, she believed that nobody was truly or purely evil in the world and that everybody was capable of goodness. She starts to become much more pragmatic as the series progresses because of everything that she has been through.
  • Nerds Are Sexy: Camille is very beautiful and she is also a Bookworm and a Badass Bookworm all rolled into one. She is a psychology major sand she also studies and reads a lot, indicating a highly nerdy and scholarly personality. Despite the fact that she is The Smart Girl who is a nerd, she is also appealing as she has managed to attract the attention of and gain the affections of both Marcel and Klaus. Klaus has also shown that it is Cami's mind and intelligence that he is strongly attracted to as well as her tenacity and her spirit.
  • Nice Girl: The nicest girl in the series. She is also the Token Human and The Heart of the show. Cami is kind, caring, emotional and compassionate. She manages to try to see the good in Klaus, someone who has consistently shown to commit endless immoral and evil acts. Cami also serves as a Morality Pet for Klaus, as she has been seen to bring out the much softer and kinder side of Klaus.
  • Non-Action Guy: Cami is shown to not be much into fighting or combat. She depends on her intelligence and her brains to survive. She would also rather resort to using diplomatic tactics and ways in order to achieve her goal instead of resorting to violence of any sort. She seems to be the opposite of Klaus in this aspect, who frequently uses combat, violence or force to achieve his mission or goals.
  • Only Sane Woman: Out of all of the characters in the series and as the only Token Human, it is understandable why Cami would be considered the most sane and rational out of all of the characters. She is also practical and intelligent as well and depends on her brains in order to survive.
  • Platonic Life-Partners: With Klaus. Despite originally being "against" Klaus because of his bad behaviour and the horrible things he has done, Cami has proven to have become a very good and reliable friend to Klaus. She is always there for him whenever he needs to talk or whether he needs come kind of comfort, advice or support. When Klaus feels like he has nowhere or no one else to go to, he shows that he trusts Cami and turns to her when he really needs to. Cami has been shown to be a good listener and although she's initially untrusting and skeptical of Klaus because of what and who he is and is reluctant to get closer to him, once Klaus opened up her eyes and exposed to her his dark past which was filled with pain and dysfunction, Cami began to see Klaus in a different light and began to understand where Klaus was coming from and why he managed to turn out the way that he did. In some ways, Cami has become somewhat of a therapist for Klaus, someone whom Klaus can come to and turn to whenever he needs toy get something off his chest. Cami also serves as The Conscience and a Morality Pet for Klaus, someone who calls him out on his immoral behaviour and reminds him of when he is doing something wrong or when he has crossed the moral line. However, it seems as though Klaus and Cami are platonic and are friends, there might be some mutual romantic feelings between the two of them as Klaus has shown that he has a very big soft spot for Cami and he got very jealous and upset when he discovered that Cami had engaged in a sexual relationship with his enemy Marcel. Cami, on the other hand, has always been drawn to Klaus on some level deep down, despite the fact that she tries to hide it and deny it. Stops being platonic in season 3.
  • Plucky Girl: Despite all of the pain and tragedy that she is endured, she has managed to still think as positively as she can. She is also shown to be someone who is rather naive, idealistic and optimistic. She's strong, passionate, enthusiastic and opinionated and never hesitates to speak her mind and stand up for what she believes in. She also has no problem in standing up to Klaus and telling him when he is in the wrong.
  • The Pollyanna: Camille is strong willed and optimistic, despite all of the pain, tragedy and suffering that she has endured.
  • The Renfield: For Klaus, after he brainwashed her to get close to Marcel. However, she only remembers this brainwashing in Klaus' presence.
  • Savvy Guy, Energetic Girl: Camille is the Energetic Girl to Klaus and Marcel's Savvy Guy. Cami is a Genki Girl and a Motor Mouth who has a somewhat enthusiastic and optimistic personality while both Klaus and Marcel, by contrast, are Manipulative Bastards and Cultured Badasses that are more sophisticated and have more serious and stoic personalities.
  • Ship Tease: With both Klaus and Marcel. She has actually engaged in a sexual relationship with Marcel. However, there is a lot of Belligerent Sexual Tension with Klaus that they have started to veer in the Will They or Won't They? territory.
  • The Smart Girl: A combo of Nerds Are Sexy and Badass Bookworm. Cami is very intelligent, smart, savvy and nerdy. She is always reading and studying and she has shown that she is highly mentally capable and a book smart genius. Her focus tends to be primarily on intellectual and intelligent pursuits. She also seems to be a Techno Wizard as she is always using her laptop for research and studying. Cami is primarily the idea girl who comes up with plans that are more diplomatic in nature while she leaves the action and the use of violence and force to other characters, primarily the supernatural beings. Cami is also a psychology student.
  • Techno Wizard: Cami is pretty savvy with a computer or a laptop and she almost always has one for studying and researching.
  • Token Good Teammate: For both Klaus and Marcel, tying into her status as a Morality Pet for both of them.
  • Token Human: She's the only regular human on the main cast. Every other main character on the show is a supernatural being, whether they be a vampire, witch, hybrid or werewolf.
    • Halfway through season three, she's compelled by Aurora to kill herself. She completes the transition into a vampire before the episode is done.
  • Took a Level in Badass: Was already on her way to being tough but becoming a vampire herself has unleashed her inner awesomeness big time.
  • Troubled, but Cute: Cami is very beautiful and loveable, but she has been through so much pain and suffering that it is understandable why she comes off as so troubled.
  • Tsundere: Type B towards Klaus.
  • Wide-Eyed Idealist: By far the most naive and idealistic character in the series. Comes with being the Token Human, the Plucky Girl and The Pollyanna all rolled into one.
