Sophie's neice and one of the Harvest girls who was sacrificed. Sophie's motivations to finish the Harvest was to ressurect her. Upon being ressurected, she kills her. She eventually becomes The Dragon towards Genevieve, and a bully to Davina, turning the other harvest girls against her.
- Alpha Bitch: After she's resurrected, Monique becomes massively arrogant, self-righteous and cruel.
- Ax-Crazy: After her first stint with death, she comes back as a violent sadist with a unhealthy predisposition to torture and murder.
- Back from the Dead: After the Harvest, she's resurrected.
- The Bully: To Davina, following her resurrection.
- Came Back Wrong: According to
Word of God, her new attitude comes from being surrounded by fanatical zealous witches on the other side. - Face–Heel Turn: After resurrection.
- Dragon with an Agenda: To Genevive, who she plotted to kill.
- The Fundamentalist: She becomes this following her resurrection. She even murders her own aunt for not being enough of a true believer.
- Never My Fault: She casually paints Sophie's death as a casualty of war and that she lost her when she downright murdered her
- The Sociopath: After her resurrection.
- Ungrateful Bitch: Monique murders her own aunt, who was just trying to protect her and spent most of the season trying to resurrect her.
- Used to Be a Sweet Kid: Although we don't know the details, by all accounts she was a pleasant girl pre-death. Davina says they were best friends. Word of God is that being stuck in "limbo" with the ancestors, changed her as they turned her into a fantatic.
- We Used to Be Friends: Davina and Monique were close before the latter's death.
- Would Hurt a Child: Unlike Genevieve, she showed no remorse nor qualms in having to sacrifice Klaus' baby.

Celeste was a powerful witch back in the 1700s. She struck up a passionate romance with Elijah, which tragically ended when Klaus decided to blame the witches for his own mayhem, which ignited a literal witch hunt. Elijah finds her body in his siblings' mansion, where she was drowned by the mob. Except...
- Ain't Too Proud to Beg: She begs Elijah to spare her when her bodyjumping fails. He's not convinced
- Body Surf: Apparently Celeste has been jumping from one body to another for over a century.
- Dying as Yourself: Played with. The spell Elijah gave Monique ensured that after she killed herself, she would jump back into her original body. She doesn't survive long after making that discovery.
- Foreshadowing: In some of Davina's early scenes, she's seen drawing random pictures with a disturbed look on her face, and not just when a witch is trying to cast magic. Elijah takes her drawings and pieces them together to form a portrait of Celeste, the 'evil' she's been detecting all along. Even more so in Sabine's first appearance in episode one she mentions 'Vengeful Spirits' with an ironic roll of her eyes to the tourist she is showing around the Quarter. The irony in her voice is due to the fact that she herself is a Vengeful Spirit playing Guide.
- Inter Species Romance: Between her and Elijah.
- Heroic B So D: Her death gave Elijah this. From the flashbacks we see of them together, Elijah is less guarded, more playful and very happy. He howls with anguish when he finds her body.
- Hot Witch: Elijah certainly thought so. Celeste certainly chooses attractive bodies to inhabit.
- Hoist by His Own Petard: Celeste's obsession with revenge against Elijah and his family has paid off numerous times, with her plans and schemes coming into fruition. Her obsession then became her downfall when she made it clear that she wanted to keep the stolen Harvest power and continue to body-surf for eternity.
- Oh, Crap!: In the flashbacks - Elijah, when he realizes that Klaus has thrown all the witches of New Orleans under the bus to cover up for his own acts, including his lover. And again in episode 10, when he pieces together Davina's chaotic drawings of 'something evil' and finds that they form a portrait of her face. Episode 11 reveals that the reason Davina and the other girls remained dead was because Celeste - who's possessing Sabine - had absorbed the magic already. She then uses it to resurrect former witch elders of the community.
- Out-Gambitted: By Elijah.
- Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Hayley snoops through Elijah's diaries and gives Sophie the clues to Celeste's resting place. Other facts made finding her grave possible, like the fact that Davina had gone AWOL, leaving the witches of New Orleans free to cast magic for one day. This ends up being subverted, as there was no power in the bones as the magic in them , Celeste herself had began moving from one body to another, ending up in Sabine.
- Star-Crossed Lovers: Between herself and Elijah. Her death devastated him.
- Villainous Breakdown: When she wakes up in her original body and Elijah tells her that her consuming hatred for him had finally caused her to be betrayed by her own coven. She breaks down and begs Elijah not to kill her, but to no avail.

An extremely powerful witch who was brought back to life by Celeste Marie Helene Dubois (while in Sabine's body), using the energy from the latest Harvest ritual. She had unfinished business with Rebekah and Marcel.
- All Girls Want Bad Boys: She confessed to Rebekah that she had a crush on Klaus. When an imprisoned and weakened Klaus asks her why she's showing him mercy, she smiles genuinely and says 'You never did anything to me.'
- Mercy Kill: The witches were going to kill her anyway, for failing to sacrifice Hope. Hayley just makes it quicker.
- Cruel and Unusual Death: After she told Rebekah that her spell to summon Mikael is irreversible, and that Rebekah should suffer Klaus' wrath herself, Rebekah gave her influenza by shoving a bloody cloth of infected blood into her mouth. She was then kept in quarantine by orderlies Rebekah had compelled, and died of the disease.
- Evil Former Friend: To Rebekah, although not without reason.
- Evil Redhead: Rebekah even calls her 'red' to get her attention when they first meet.
- Used to Be a Sweet Kid: When she was alive, she was a sweet, naive witch who used her powers to ease the pains of her patients as a nurse.
- Unwitting Pawn: Of Rebekah and Marcel. They used her to summon Mikael, and when they changed their minds, Rebekah killed her.
- We Used to Be Friends: With Rebekah, except things turned very sour.
- Woobie, Destroyer of Worlds: Given what she went through, it's no wonder she's become twisted with revenge. See Cruel and Unusual Death above.
- Wouldn't Hurt a Child: She begs the ancestor witches not to make her 'a monster' and sacrifice Klaus' baby. But since it's her life or the child's, she has very little choice in the matter.

- Evil Redhead: She's a redhead, and an unrepentant murderer.
- Faux Affably Evil: Tends to speak to her enemies in a soothing, grandmotherly tone, even as she destroys their lives.
- Knight Templar: She views her actions as 'the natural order'.
- The Leader: Bastianna was the leader and Elder of the French Quarter Coven before the events of the series.
- Surprisingly Sudden Death: Marcel kills her in two seconds flat with no build-up whatsoever.
- We Hardly Knew Ye: Despite appearing in multiple episodes, Bastianna remains a significantly less developed character than even Papa Tunde, who survived only a single episode following his introduction.
- Would Hurt a Child: She's absolutely willing to kill a child to fulfill the Harvest ritual.

The fourth Harvest Girl, whose body had been used by Esther Mikaelson's spirit so she could come back from the dead and further her agenda against the Mikaelsonss. After Esther's spirit moved on to the witch Lenore, Cassie regained control of her body. However, the whole experience has left her traumatized, and she has since been committed to the witches' asylum the Fauline Cottage.
- Back from the Dead: Was the last Harvest Girl to be resurrected.
- Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: Not even two episodes as herself and she betrays Rebekah's trust
- Break the Cutie: Being used as Esther's Soul Jar wasn't easy on her.
- Grand Theft Me: By Esther so to hitch a ride Back from the Dead.
- Rewarded as a Traitor Deserves: Killed by Freya, and Freya kills her because of her betraying Rebecca.
- Soul Jar: Esther Mikaelson inhabited her body for a while.

A witch and a fortune teller. She was also an elder and a member of the New Orleans Coven.
- Asshole Victim: Considering Agnes was a smug, self-righteous and unrepentant murderer, her Neck Snap at Elijah's hands seems very deserved.
- Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: She appears friendly to a pregnant Hayley and the Originals driving Hayley to an OB who's friendly with werewolves while actually plotting to kill her.
- Evil Old Folks: Evil. Also old.
- The Fundamentalist: In terms of witch beliefs.
- Jerkass: Hexing an innocent boy to commit Murder-Suicide and attempted baby murder just about covers it.
- Neck Snap: How Elijah kills her.
- Would Hurt a Child: Tries to kill Hayley and Klaus' child
Papa Tunde

An African witch doctor who was brought into New Orleans during the 1920s to deal with the Mikaelsons.
- Back from the Dead: He's one of the witches Celeste resurrects.
- Bald of Evil: Under that hat, he's bald.
- Curb-Stomp Battle: Gives Klaus his first one of the TO series, effortlessy over-powering him and Marcel, its justified because Tunde's is channeling the power of an Original plus some vampires.
- Even Evil Has Loved Ones: Seems to have loved his sons and is utterly furious after their death, he did however, use them to channel power though it may have been willingly.
- Large Ham: Only during his 1920s appearance; upon being resurrected, he's more subdued and quietly menacing.
- Made of Iron: He is channeling the powers of an Original and some vampire, so he has their combined abilities but none of their weaknesses as he is able to shrug off a broken neck.
- Scary Black Man: He's certainly one of the most powerful and threatening characters.
- Sharp-Dressed Man: Tunde is certainly a snappy dresser.
- Slashed Throat: Celeste uses his own enchanted blade to cut his throat, although he was a willing participant.
- Super-Strength: After channeling the power of some vampires plus an Original, he became for stronger than Klaus, and beat him and Marcel effortlessly, he was even immune to a Neck Snap, which renders even Originals unconscious.

A witch that holds the title of Regent over the nine covens of witches of New Orleans, serves as matriarch to the ones outside the French Quarter and is the patron of the Fauline Cottage Mental Asylum. After her death, Davina becomes the new Regent.
- Abusive Parents: She heavily implies that her mother cursed her with arthritis after learning that she planned on leaving her coven to elope with a jazz musician. See Former Teen Rebel below.

- Face Death with Dignity: When confronted by Dahlia , who uses her power to heal Josephine cursed hands as a demonstration of power. Josephine calmly checks if two old powerful Witches could come to some sort of amicable agreement. Realizing that they cant all she asks before she dies is one last chance to play the music she loved for so many decades.
- Former Teen Rebel: In her youth Josephine was quite a hellraiser. A young Witch who adored Jazz and was deeply in love with a Jazz musician. She had originally intended to abandon her Coven and run off with him but her mother intervened.
- Reasonable Authority Figure: Leader of Vincent Griffith former covern. While not a fan of the Mikaelsons. She can be reasoned with, and relied upon to work with them if given good enough reason to.

A highly powerful and sadistic witch who slowly murdered child witches to steal their power.
- Alas, Poor Villain: The season four reveals that Eva started out as a genuinely loving wife to Vincent and they were happy and Eva was pregnant. Regardless of her being described as a "wild soul", it's clear she had genuinely changed due to her husband. However, everything changed when Vincent showed Eva the power he had found that could ensure their safety, and she went from being a witch who just wanted to stand alongside her husband and keep her unborn child safe to the sadistic, extremist witch that she was until her death because she was corrupted by the Hollow. At some point, her unborn child was lost, which may have been what made her slip off the slippery slope, as she was still resisting the temptation of the Hollow's magic with Vincent's support. By the time Vincent got to her, she had already gone too far. Even her last moments before dying for real is quite tragic, showing how there still remains some of the Eva that loved Vincent, as she hesitates to kill Vincent and leaves her open to being murdered by Rebekah. Needless to say, Vincent never stopped blaming himself for her fall to darkness and even Marcel seems a bit empathetic and remorseful after hearing where he came along.
- Battle At The Centre Of The Mind:She loses.
- Child Eater: Eva eats the lives of children.
- Deader than Dead: There's no coming back from being killed inside your own head.
- The Dreaded: By the Treme witches. Everyone, even the powerful Josephine Larue, is terrified of her.
- Even Evil Has Loved Ones: Despite being a fanatical witch who murdered children, she and Vincent Griffith genuinely loved one another.
- Grand Theft Me: Rebekah was forcibly sent into her body, though Eva herself is still able to take control.
- Serial Killer: Of children. Averted when it's revealed that the children weren't killed, just placed into a magical coma. She was still going to kill them, however, just all at once. It means she's more of a spree killer than anything.
- Walking Spoiler: An odd case, as knowing about the character herself doesn't really spoil anything, except that Rebekah is put into her body, and it's a while before we learn anything about her.
- Would Hurt a Child: Slowly, and painfully.
Dahlia

Esther's older sister and a witch of great power. A thousand years ago, a young and recently married Esther came to Dahlia for help, so she could conceive and bear children. Dahlia agreed, but told Esther that there would be a great price: in exchange for being able to conceive, Esther had to give Dahlia the life of her first-born child, and each first-born of every subsequent generation from her bloodline. Otherwise, Dahlia would kill all her children. In season two, it's revealed that the reason Esther wanted to kill Hope was so she could prevent Dahlia's return and the deaths of her children. And since Hope is still alive...
- Abusive Parents: The way she raised Freya has all the hallmarks of emotional and physical abuse. She does everything in her power to keep Freya dependent on and scared of her: telling her when she's a child that her mother abandoned her, forcing her to perform magic when it's clear she doesn't want to, even killing the only man Freya fell in love with when she wanted to leave and start a family with him. And when Freya's failed suicide attempt accidentally aborts her child, Dahlia's response is to forgive Freya for what she did, and gently reminds her that she hopes she finally realizes that there is no escape. She shows shades of this in 2.18 when she meets Freya again. She berates her for not showing enough gratitude for all she's done, subdues her with her magic and then says she will kill every last Mikaelson so that Freya will no longer know family except her.
- Badass Boast: She lets loose more than a few in her first encounter with the Originals.
- Big Bad: Dahlia is the true main antagonist of Season 2 with Esther and Finn both trying to kill Hope in order to prevent Dahlia from arriving to take her power and kill anyone who gets in her way.
- Big Sister Instinct: She loved Esther very much. Even when she was forced by Vikings to do magic, she never complained as long as it meant Esther was free of their captors' abuse.
- Dark Is Evil: Dahlia dresses all in black, has brunette hair, and deep, brown eyes that almost appear black, and she is one of the most powerful dark witches even seen in the series. It also provides a nice contrast with her light haired sister.
- The Dreaded: To Esther herself, as well as Finn. The villainous duo are so afraid of Dahlia that they attempted to sacrifice Hope to stop her coming for them. She's this for Freya as well. She's been on the run from Dahlia for an unspecified number of centuries, and tells Finn that Esther's power is nothing compared to Dahlia's. Humorously, some fans think Mikael is this for her because she wouldn't allow Esther to tell Mikael the truth, of course this theory is unlikely given her level of power. The rest of the Originals quickly think of her as this when she completely defeats them in 2.18.
- Disproportionate Retribution: Because of one chieftain wanting to run her out of the village for witchcraft, she slaughters the entire village with a "wave" of her hand.
- It's heavily implied that Dahlia brokered her deal with Esther so that her younger sister would know what it felt like to lose family, just like she did.
- Et Tu, Brute?: The reason she severed relations with Esther a thousand years ago was because she married a Viking, the same people who slaughtered their entire village, and then abandoned her.
- Exact Words: Dahlia told Esther that she would take her firstborn and the firstborn of each of her descendants as the price for her being able to conceive children. It's revealed that she planned to make her own coven made of first-borns from her bloodline to draw and amplify her own power.
- Faux Affably Evil: She's exceedingly polite to, and respectful of, Josephine. She also acts reasonable and pleasant with Hayley. It doesn't disguise her evil for even a second.
- Freudian Excuse: Freya says that Dahlia's quest for power is all so she can never be threatened or made vulnerable again, like she did when she was younger and suffered at the hands of Vikings.
- Godzilla Threshold: Let's put it this way: Dahlia is such a threat that Klaus and Mikael agree to put aside their differences temporarily in order to take her down.
- Greater-Scope Villain: Behind Esther, seeing as Dahlia is the entire reason she attempted to sacrifice Hope. She becomes this for the Originals themselves once they learn of her existence.
- Implacable Woman: According to Freya, once she senses Hope's magical potential, nothing will stand between her and the baby.
- Immortality: Is completely unkillable due to the sleep spell, only age will end her and Freya's life but they only experience one year of life before sleeping for a century.
- Necessarily Evil: How she views herself. There's no doubt that Freya suffered under Dahlia's care, but she did help her control her powers when they threatened to go out of control.
- Nice Job Fixing It, Villain: The deal with Esther turned Mikael into an angry lunatic feared by even the Originals. Esther turned to magic and made the spell to turn her children into vampires, which prevent Dahlia from using their firstborns since Vampires except Klaus cannot have children.
- Person of Mass Destruction: Burned down an entire village with one wave of her hand.
- Redemption Equals Death: She and Esther make amends as they die. Their bodies are last seen holding each other in a sisterly embrace.
- Sealed Evil in a Can: The spell Dahlia casts to make them near invincible requires them to sleep every hundred years and only have one year of living. She actually woke up the same time as Freya as the spell was cast and worked at the same and has no doubt sensed Hope's magic.
- Stronger Sibling: Esther was considered to be one of the most powerful witches to ever exist and used the immortality spell to create the vampire species. Dahlia is even stronger then that and her power makes Esther's look like a joke in comparison.
- Together in Death: With Esther in the second season finale.
- Walking Spoiler: Hoooo boy... Very little can be described about Dahlia's character without giving away one of the largest twists in Season 2.
- Witch Hunt: Her village was destroyed by Vikings in a literal witch hunt. She and Esther were the only survivors.
- Would Hurt a Child: Considering she took Freya and now wants to take Hope as well. She's killed off at least one village onscreen, including its children. She really isn't above killing children.

The Hollow, formerly known as Inadu, is the extremely dark and powerful spirit of a Native American witch. She is the distant ancestor of Hayley Marshall-Kenner and Hope Mikaelson. Born to a tribe of Native American witches, they bestowed great power upon her throughout her mother's pregnancy, in hopes of her becoming a symbol of prosperity. After she was born, she only craved more power and killed members of her own tribe. They were afraid of her actions and sought to kill her. Before she meet her own demise, she created the werewolf curse and bound all those present to the full moon. This curse forced them to change into the very beasts that were used to hunt her down. This ultimately began the seven original bloodlines of werewolves with her mother being the first of the werewolves.
- Achilles' Heel: Since her mother was the one that swung the ax that killed her original body only her own bloodline has the power to defeat her again. As Hayley and Hope are her direct descendants and the last surviving members of the Labonair tribe their blood is the only thing that can truly defeat the Hollow. After returning to life she finds a way to subvert this weakness by using Hayley's blood to create a spell that allows her to steal Hope's body forcing Vincent to come up with a new plan to defeat the Hollow.
- Big Bad: The Hollow is the main antagonist of Season 4, having returning to the mortal realm after the destruction of the Ancestors tether in the previous season, with the intent of sacrificing an ancient immortal being in the hopes of bringing herself back to life and targeting Hope Mikaelson as the last living member of the Labonair werewolf line.
- Blood Magic: The Hollow feeds on the power and energy which come from death and blood sacrifices. She was strongly implied to be the creator and source of Sacrificial Magic, the TV version of blood magic.
- Body Surf: As a spirit Inadu possesses the ability to take over the body of various creatures to serve as her host. After the ancestral tether is restored she posses Sophia's body in order to prevent them from sealing her up again. Her final act is to seal herself within Hope's body intending on taking over the last living Labonair to remove her weakness and to steal the one body the Originals would never harm.
- The Corrupter: The Hollow manipulates and tempts many of her followers with the promise of power until they become corrupted by it. In the past she turned Eva Sinclair into the child kidnapper/almost murderer she became known as and corrupts Kinney into doing the same thing.
- Game Face: Inadu does this a lot. At first, she manifests herself as a glowing ball of blue light, then a shadowy ghost with blue eyes and clawed hands, then a smoky shadow of a teenage girl. When she is possessing someone, her eyes can glow blue, which reveals herself as the Hollow.
- A God Am I: She sees herself as an all-powerful supreme being and believes she is the only one with the right to rule the world. She even gathered a bunch of witches to worship her and sacrifice children to her.
- Hero Killer: While addmittedly the term is a little lose on this show she is responsible for killing Elijah, and his entire Sireline for good measure, in Season 4 to fuel her resurrection though it only lasts two episodes before he is resurrected in turn. By the end of the series however her actions led to the permanent deaths of Hayley, Klaus and Elijah.
- Humanoid Abomination: Possibly. She was considered a monster and abomination by other supernatural beings.
- Offing the Offspring: The Elders of her tribe imbued a part of their own magic into a mighty ax before having Inadu's own mother kill her with the weapon. Her mother was crying and hesitated long enough for Inadu to cast a curse that turned her and all other members of the tribe into werewolves.
- Physical God: Inadu herself and all other characters see her as this. She was the most powerful supernatural being the Originals ever faced; right up until the end, she was unable to be destroyed completely.
- Psychic Powers: Inadu possesses powerful mental faculties which she uses to manipulate the minds of others and corrupt them. She is also very adept at telekinesis, which she constantly uses on-screen.
- Religion of Evil: She leads a hellish cult of witches who worship her as their goddess. They sacrificed humans, witches, and other supernatural beings to her.
