    A-L

  • Action Fashionista: Qetsiyah is more of a Dark Action Girl plus she seems to like fashion as she dresses rather trendy in the modern times, even when she has to fight.
  • Aerith and Bob: With Silas. While Silas' name is pretty normal sounding in the modern era, Qetsiyah is a very unique and original-sounding name that betrays how ancient she is. She tends to agree and decides that she insists on being called Tessa in the modern era.
  • Affably Evil: Can appear polite and even stable at times, but is actually really unstable, psychotic, and crazy.
  • Afterlife Avenger: Her plan for revenge against Silas and Amara would follow them to their afterlives, as Qetsiyah wanted to make sure that when they died, they would be separated in their afterlife. She even created a purgatory for supernatural beings for this single purpose.
  • Agony Beam: A trademark for witches in the setting, but hers are so powerful she can even cause permanent brain injury, as Stefan ends up losing his memories after she cast a particularly powerful pain infliction spell on him.
  • All Girls Want Bad Boys: Qetsiyah is still attracted to Silas after two thousand years, even after knowing he's a bastard and a liar who betrayed her.
  • All Love Is Unrequited: Qetsiyah was passionately (more like obsessively) in love with Silas, but Silas did not love her and was in love with another woman (who was his true love and soulmate).
  • Aloof Dark-Haired Girl: She's a brunette with a cold, ruthless and icy personality.
  • Alpha Bitch: OH SO MUCH. In fact, Qetsiyah is probably a bigger bitch then Rebekah and Katherine combined. She's also one of the most powerful female character in the series.
  • Always Second Best: In regards to Silas' lover Amara. Qetsiyah loved Silas but Silas loved someone else, despite Qetsiyah being his best friend and helping him become immortal out of love for him. In 5.03, Qetsiyah tells Damon that Silas and Amara's doppelgangers - currently Stefan and Elena - have been finding each other and falling in love throughout the ages. Destiny will always push them together and, as she bitterly states, people like her and Damon are 'just the conflict that makes their story interesting.
  • Ambiguously Brown: Her skin color is dark, but her ethnicity is ambiguous. Since Qetsiyah is an Arabic name, it could be assumed that Qetsiyah is of Arabic of Mediterranean descent.
  • Ambiguously Evil: Although Qetsiyah comes off as a villain in her actions, her actions could be interpreted as someone who is a Well-Intentioned Extremist, albeit the most ruthless on the scale. The only people she truly wants to hurt is Silas and Amara, all other supernatural beings getting caught up in her plan is a side-effect.
  • Anti-Villain: Of the Woobie, Destroyer of Worlds type. While she has reasons to be angry with Silas, her revenge plan went overboard when it started to drag innocent and unrelated people into it.
  • Arch-Enemy: To both Silas and Amara. Understandable considering Qetsiyah's 2000-year revenge plans to keep the both of them separated from each other for eternity. Unfortunately for both Silas and Amara, Qetsiyah does manage to achieve her goal in keeping them apart.
  • Artifact of Attraction: Qetsiyah created the cure for immortality and buried it with Silas when she entombed him in darkness, in hopes that Silas would take the cure, die a mortal death and cross over to the Other Side, which is a purgatory for supernatural beings (such as witches, vampires, werewolves, etc).
  • Ax-Crazy: Considering that Qetsiyah murdered an innocent woman because Silas was in love with her obviously qualifies Qetsiyah as being on the crazy, psychotic side.
  • Back from the Dead: When Bonnie dropped the Veil to the Other Side, Qetsiyah brought herself back to life.
  • Badass Boast: Qetsiyah's powers sure measure up to her ego.
  • The Bad Guy Wins: Because Silas dies as a witch and Amara as a mortal, Amara goes to the human afterlife while Silas goes to the Other Side with their souls now being forever separated which was Qetsiyah's overall goal in the first place. She even says the words "I won" as she slits her own wrist and dies, and seemingly even finds peace in the afterlife.
  • The Baroness: Qetsiyah is a combination of the Sexpot (sexy, seductive, alluring, sadistic, Femme Fatale) and Rosa Klebb (domineering, aggressive, cold, icy, controlling) flavours.
  • Batman Gambit: She told Silas that she had killed Amara in order to get him to take the cure. Instead she didn't kill Amara and just desiccated her. She wanted to punish Amara with an eternity without Silas and only after Silas took the cure was it revealed that she was alive
  • Battle Couple: With Silas. They were both the most powerful witches amongst a group called The Travellers.
  • Beauty Is Bad: Qetsiyah is very physically beautiful but she is very vindictive, vengeful, jealous, spiteful and crazy.
  • The Beautiful Elite: In the flashbacks, it seems as though Qetsiyah came from nobility and wealth.
  • Berserk Button: She doesn't like being reminded that Silas loved Amara and not her.
  • Betty and Veronica: In the Love Triangle between herself, Silas and Amara, Qetsiyah is the Veronica being the seductive and amoral one who ends up as a Romantic Runner-Up.
  • Birds of a Feather: With Damon. Qetsiyah basically says that she and Damon are the same and that they are merely the obstacle standing between the "two fates" (Qetsiyah for Silas/Amara and Damon for Stefan/Elena).
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: Qetsiyah helped Silas to create the immortality spell out of love for him. As soon as she discovered that Silas loved someone else and not her, her true, psychotic and crazy colours showed.
  • Black Magician Girl: Qetsiyah is regarded as "one of the most powerful witches of all time", to the point she figured out immortality.
  • Brainy Brunette: She's a brunette and one of the most intelligent characters in the series, though she's also of the Manipulative Bitch type.
  • Broken Bird: Qetsiyah was betrayed by the one man she loved more than anything (Silas) and someone whom she called her friend (Amara), was killed by The Travellers and was forced to watch versions of Silas and Amara endlessly find each other over the centuries and fall in love with each other.
  • Brutal Honesty: Qetsiyah doesn't seem to shy away from spilling the truth tea and she is rather blunt and frank.
  • The Chessmaster: After Silas betrayed her, she crafter her revenge plans in such a way that him getting what he wanted (eternity with Amara) was virtually impossible.
  • Childhood Friend Romance: With Silas. They seemed to have grown up together since childhood and they were best friends before they became engaged.
  • Chivalric Romance: With Silas during 1st Century B.C.
  • Chronic Villainy: After Qetsiyah became evil and corrupted, she consistently committed evil and horrible acts all in the name of getting back at Silas and Amara.
  • Clingy Jealous Girl: She always had jealousy issues, but they went out of control after Silas betrayed her and went more along the lines of Yandere, Murder the Hypotenuse, Love Hungry, Stalker with a Crush and If I Can't Have Youā€¦ levels.
Qetsiyah : I have trust issues, I'm controlling, paranoid and a little crazy, and that's working out just fine.
  • Closer to Earth: Played With. Qetsiyah is a woman of color (arguably due to being Ambiguously Brown) and the magic she practices is said to be closely related to nature and the planet itself, with Markos describing it as "pure magic". But her personality has been consumed by her petty need for revenge and obsession with Silas.
  • Complexity Addiction: Qetsiyah's sinister plans are always so incredibly meticulous and complicated at the same time. Although she wanted to get revenge against Silas for what he did, there were many ways in which Qetsiyah could have gotten her revenge in much simpler ways than she conducted, and she got almost the entire world involved in it when she created The Other Side.
  • Consummate Liar: Lies extremely often in order to manipulate people, with her biggest lie being that she killed Amara, when she actually just made her the Anchor to The Other Side.
  • Costume Porn: During the 1st century B.C. flashbacks. She wore a variety of fancy dresses and clothing, mostly because she was rich and of noble status.
  • Courtly Love: With Silas during 1st Century B.C. Both of them were rich and of noble status. Although is was very obvious that Qetsiyah loved Silas, it is uncertain, however, if Silas did actually really love Qetsiyah as more than a friend.
  • Cultured Badass: Qetsiyah is from 1st Century B.C and from Ancient Greece, which is known to be a highly sophisticated period. She also appeared to be rather wealthy.
  • Crazy-Prepared: Qetsiyah was a very powerful witch who helped create the first immortal being in the world (Silas), created her very own talisman, created the Other Side for supernatural beings as a supernatural purgatory for all supernatural beings to go to when they die, creating the cure for immortality, burying or sealing Silas in a tomb with the cure, and also creating a group of supernatural vampire hunters (The Brotherhood of the Five) in order for them to find Silas and kill him with the cure so that he would end up on the Other Side with her for eternity. It should also be mentioned that the main reason Qetsiyah created The Other Side was so that if Silas should take the cure and die a mortal death, he would end up with her on The Other Side forever and not with his true love who was human.
  • Cruel Mercy:
    • Partly due to the fact that Silas and Amara couldn't be killed, and partly because she wanted to be extra vicious in her revenge. Qetsiyah subjected both to a Fate Worse than Death: She cast a spell on Silas and entombed him in darkness. She then cursed Amara to be the anchor to The Other Side, forcing her to feel every supernatural death that occurred in the world. Due to both Silas and Amara being immortals and needing blood as a source to survive, they were also left to starve and desiccate in darkness for an eternity of loneliness and misery. And in the event they did die, she also made sure the two wouldn't reunite in the afterlife.
    • When she decides to use her magic to give Stefan his memories back, she does so in a manner that is most painful for him, in order to pay him back for having stabbed her to save Elena.
  • Cute and Psycho: Qetsiyah may be physically attractive and have a friendly facade, but in reality, she is actually very mentally unstable, crazy and psychotic in personality.
  • Dark Action Girl: Qetsiyah is a very powerful witch who is completely crazy, unpredictable and psychotic.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: Oh boy, Qetsiyah has a very rough history due to the constant trauma and heartbreak that she had to endure. Originally, it seemed as though Qetsiyah was just a normal young woman who was in love with Silas but she eventually revealed herself to be emotionally unstable once Silas had proven to be unfaithful to her. Not only was Silas unfaithful to her, but he was unfaithful to her by falling in love with her handmaiden, Amara. On top of it, Silas (along with Amara as a guilty bystander) manipulated and betrayed her by leading her on in order to steal the immortality elixir so that Silas and Amara could become immortal together and live an eternity together in happiness. Qetsiyah being betrayed by two people she loved and trusted was what triggered her to do a Faceā€“Heel Turn and become the unstable, crazy, and psychotic individual that she became over time.
  • Dark Is Evil: Qetsiyah seems to be wearing darker colours in the modern day.
  • Dark Magical Girl: Qetsiyah practices dark magic and uses her magic for evil and immoral intentions.
  • Deadpan Snarker: When we first meet her. She is very witty with a strong penchant for sarcasm, despite her villainous personality. It's definitely something that she shares in common with Damon.
  • Death by Woman Scorned: According to the legend of Silas, Qetsiyah discovered that Silas loved another (Amara) instead of her, she killed Amara and then entombed Silas by burying him alive with the cure so he would suffer. This legend turned out to be false as it was revealed that Qetsiyah actually desiccated Amara and made her the physical anchor to the Other Side.
  • Death Glare: Gives many of these to Silas and Amara. She definitely has the jilted and betrayed lover personality down pat.
  • Defrosting Ice Queen: Around both Silas and Stefan. The major reason why she becomes nicer to them is because she is deeply (more like obsessively) in love with Silas and Stefan is physically identical to the object of her two millennia obsession.
  • Desperately Craves Affection: More like Desperately Craves Silas' Affection. Unfortunately for Qetsiyah, Silas never loved her, and Qetsiyah's feelings for Silas were always (and still are) unreciprocated but that does not stop Qetsiyah from doing everything and anything to get Silas to be with her for all of eternity, basically by force.
  • Destructive Romance: With Silas. She spent 2,000 years obsessed with him to the point where she became psychotic and emotionally crazy and unstable, even though she knew that Silas did not love her and will never love her.
  • The Determinator: Qetsiyah was so determined for Silas to love her and be with her for eternity that she murdered Silas' true love, Amara, created the cure for immortality so that Silas would take it and die, created the Other Side so that Silas would take the cure, die a mortal death and cross over to the Other Side so that Silas would end up with her in supernatural purgatory for eternity instead of with his human mortal true love, created a group of supernatural hunters (The Brotherhood Of The Five) to find, cure and kill Silas so that he would end up on the Other Side with her. Qetsiyah is this trope to the most extreme levels.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: Qetsiyah didn't just get even with Silas for betraying her, she got ultimate revenge by killing Silas' lover out of anger, jealousy and spite and entombing Silas in darkness for eternity.
  • The Dreaded: The name Qetsiyah is enough to make others quake in fear, as she is known to be one of the most powerful (and unpredictable and crazy) witches of all time. She's so powerful that she has actually invoked fear from others, including Silas, who is are incredibly powerful and unstoppable himself.
  • Driven by Envy: Intense jealousy and envy over Silas loving someone else and not her is what drove Qetsiyah to murder an innocent woman.
  • Driven to Madness: Watching Silas, the man she loved, betray her for her own handmaiden had a lot to do with Qetsiyah becoming vengeful, hateful, crazy, insecure, and psychotic.
  • Driven to Suicide: Kills herself by slitting her own wrists which leads to a clausal blood loss all so she can join a dead Silas on The Other Side.
  • Driven to Villainy: Although we don't know the full story of why Qetsiyah became psychotic, it could be because she was simply deeply hurt and betrayed when she discovered that the man that she loved more than anything (Silas) didn't love her back and decided to give the gift of immortality to his true love over her.
  • Eternal Love: Qetsiyah desired this with Silas more than anything, hence why she created the spell for immortality. Unfortunately, Silas didn't love her and wanted to grant the gift of immortality to Amara instead. Qetsiyah DID NOT take it well when she discovered this and that betrayal drove her to become psychotic and vengeful towards Silas and his true love.
  • Ethnic Magician: Since Qetsiyah is Bonnie's ancestor, it's assumed that she is of African descent. Although, it is not certain that Qetsiyah was of African descent since her name is of Arabic origin and her native tongue or language was Aramaic (which is an ancient language which is Semitic and could be Arabic, Hebrew, Ethiopic, and Akkadian, which is Assyrian and ancient Babylonian) according to Klaus, the symbols and language on The Hunter's Sword. So, it could be possible that Qetsiyah was actually of Arabic or Middle Eastern descent. The Aramaic language can be spoken in parts of the Middle East such as Syria, Iraq, Iran, Lebanon, Israel, Turkey, Jordan and Palestine.
  • Et Tu, Brute?: In addition to feeling betrayed by Silas, she also felt this way towards her handmaiden Amara because she felt that Amara betrayed her by falling in love with Silas and stealing her immortality from her.
  • Evil Former Friend: To Silas. In fact, Qetisyah was deeply in love with Silas and was even engaged to be married to him. Whether Silas and Qetsiyah was an arranged marriage is unknown but is highly possible. Qetsiyah had created the spell of immortality for Silas out of love for him. Unfortunately for Qetsiyah, Silas betrayed her when he made himself and his true love, Amara, immortal instead of her. Qetsiyah did not take Silas' betrayal very well and has been wanting to get revenge on Silas for over 2,000 years.
  • Evil Gloating: Her final words have her gloating about her victory over Silas and Amara. "True love prevails. Universe be damned."
  • Evil Is Petty: Qetsiyah is very vengeful and vindictive. The fact that she killed an innocent woman over a man speaks volumes of her personality.
  • Evil Versus Evil: With Silas, the Big Bad. Both Silas and Qetsiyah are in a major battle for the cure and neither will stop until they both get it. The reason Silas wants to obtain the cure is that so he can take the cure, drop The Veil, destroy The Other Side, die a mortal death and cross over to be with Amara in death for eternity. Qetsiyah, on the other hand, wants to force the cure down Silas' throat, turn him a mortal again, kill Silas so that he would end up on The Other Side, and possibly kill herself so she could go back to being on The Other Side so Silas is forced to spend an eternity with her and not Amara.
  • Evil Plan: Wants to preserve the Other Side so that other supernatural beings who have died end up suffering for eternity and never finding peace all because she wants Silas to be with her on the Other Side for her for eternity and separated from his mortal human true love Amara.
  • Evil Sorceress: One of the oldest and most powerful magic users in the setting, who is very vengeful, hateful, crazy and psychotic.
  • Faceā€“Heel Turn: Before Silas betrayed Qetsiyah, she seemed to be a normal, albeit slightly jealous and insecure young lady.
  • Face of an Angel, Mind of a Demon: Qetsiyah is very beautiful and appears to be friendly, but she is completely psychotic, manipulative and crazy.
  • False Soulmate: She believed Silas to be her soulmate and created an immortality elixir for them to be together forever. Only he didn't love her and only manipulated her for the elixir, as his true soulmate was Amars;
Qetsiyah: Silas was my true love. I never said I was his.
  • Famous Ancestor: She's the oldest known ancestor of the Bennett bloodline.
  • Faux Affably Evil: Qetsiyah can be polite and courteous when she wants to be. However, underneath her stoic, polite, or calm demeanor is a very psychotic and emotionally unstable individual.
  • Femme Fatale: Qetsiyah seems to be a bit of a seductress, especially in the flashbacks and when trying to manipulate Stefan.
  • Foil:
    • To Amara. Qetsiyah is wealthy, rich and noble while Amara is poor and downtrodden. Qetsiyah is supernatural as she is a very powerful witch while Amara is simply a normal human. Personality-wise, Qetsiyah is vengeful, crazy, unstable, manipulative and cruel while Amara (before she became unstable) is kind, loving, docile and gentle.
    • To Damon. While both are The Veronica and the eventual Romantic Runner-Up in the Love Triangles they're part of, Damon manages to overcome his petty and vindictive side through Character Development and has a far better relationship with Stefan and Elena than Qetsiyah had with Amara and Silas. Damon ultimately becomes an Official Couple and Happily Married to Elena, while remains a Woman Scorned and a Yandere to the end.
  • Forced to Watch: A variation of this trope. Qetsiyah watched versions of Silas and Amara, two people that Qetsiyah hated the most, from the Other Side find each other by destiny and fate and fall in love century after century. That for Qetsiyah was ultimate torture that she only became even more hateful and vengeful.
Qetsiyah Century after century, I watched versions of Stefan and Elena find each other, like magnets, always the same storyā€”conquering all, falling in love. You didn't think your brother was Silas' first shadow? Destiny has been trying to get the DoppelgƤnger together forever.
  • Freudian Excuse: One could say Qetsiyah turned out to be the psychotic, crazy, hateful and vengeful person that she is because the man that she loved more than anything (Silas) manipulated her into thinking that he loved her and wanted to spend an eternity with her. On top of it, because Qetsiyah loved Silas so much, she betrayed nature (as a witch, who is a servant of nature) and created the very first spell of immortality so that they could both become immortal and spend an eternity with each other. But then Qetsiyah had discovered that he didn't intend to share the gift of mortality with her and instead, desired to share it with someone who was personally close to her, Amara, her handmaiden. As if being betrayed b both Silas and Amara want enough, because both Silas and Amara were immortal and therefore unkillable, nature created a loophole and created versions of Silas and Amara that could die called DoppelgƤnger. A dead Qetsiyah as a ghost, who was killed by The Travellers for creating immortality, was Forced to Watch mortal versions of Silas and Amara consistently find each other throughout the centuries and fall deeply in love with each other, because the Universe, destiny and fate calls for it. It is no wonder that Qetsiyah became the hateful and vengeful person that she is in the current times.
  • Friend Versus Lover: Qetisyah was Silas' best friend who was in love with him. But Silas was in love with another woman named Amara. Qetsiyah was a rival to Amara for Silas' affections. She murdered her out of pure anger, rage and jealousy when she discovered that Silas loved Amara and not her.
  • From Nobody to Nightmare: Qetsiyah goes from being a young, powerful witch who practiced magic to a hateful, vengeful, crazy, psychotic, powerful witch who created a whole new dimension for dead supernatural beings called The Other Side, all so that she could trap Silas mortal soul with her for all eternity.
  • Functional Magic: Qetsiyah is born a very powerful witch and she practices magic. It was revealed that she was a member of The Travellers along with Silas. She does seem to master Dark Magic though.
  • The Gadfly: The only time she shows a sense of humor is when messing with people heads. She particularly seems to like it doing to Stefan and Elena, likely due to their connection to Silas and Amara. For example:
Qetsiyah: [talking to Elena on the phone about Stefan] May I leave him a message?
Elena: Yeah. Remind him that you're a crazy bitch.
Qetsiyah: I would, but I think that's maybe his type.
  • The Ghost: Qetsiyah is never been seen on screen, despite being a major driving force in season four's plot and storyline. It's only on season five that she becomes Unseen No More, when she brings herself back from the Other Side to take vengeance against a reawakened Silas.
  • Girl with Psycho Weapon: On The Hunters Mark, it depicts Qetsiyah killing (by stabbing) Amara with some kind of a weapon, most likely a knife.
  • Gorgeous Period Dress: In the 1st Century B.C. flashbacks. It's expected since she was a woman of nobility and wealth.
  • Greater-Scope Villain: Qetsiyah served as this during the course of season four. Although, Silas was the main villain of season four, Qetsiyah was the bigger threat despite not being onscreen, as she was the one responsible for his immortality in the first place, and was also involved in the foundation of Brotherhood of The Five as Vampire Hunters dedicated to hunting him down and she's even the creator of The Other Side, thus responsible for all the ghosts. She's technically also responsible for the very creation of vampirism, as the spell Esther user to create The Originals was derived from her immortality spell.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: Qetsiyah is a VERY jealous and envious person by nature.
  • Green Thumb: She's a witch who particularly excels at nature-related magic. In a flashback, she described how she "created an entire garden" for her wedding ceremony, which when shown seemed to be an incredibly large space.
  • Hair-Trigger Temper: Qestiyah is very easily angered and unpredictable. What would set Qetsiyah off was Silas rejecting and betraying her for Amara.
  • Heartbroken Badass: She was betrayed by Silas, and was extremely heartbroken over the fact that Silas betrayed her for Amara and loved Amara over her. And when one of the most powerful witches in the world becomes heartbroken and consumed by petty revenge, the entire world suffers.
  • Hot-Blooded: Qetsiyah is very impulsive, passionate, short-tempered, unpredictable and overly emotional.
  • Ice Queen: Qetsiyah is very ruthless, cold, calculating and icy.
  • If I Can't Have Youā€¦: When Qetsiyah discovered that Silas didn't love her and loved another, she lashed out against Silas in the cruelest way imaginable: killing Silas' true love and then entombing the immortal Silas in darkness for eternity, leaving him to starve and desiccate.
  • I Have Your Wife: At one point she holds Elena hostage and, even tortures her with an Agony Beam in order to force Damon to work for her.
  • I Lied: Reacts in this manner when caught on a lie, most notably when she refuses to help Katherine with her Rapid Aging, as she doesn't want to mess with Immortality anymore.
Katherine: Okay, I'm ready. Let's do this.
Tessa: You. Right. You want me to stop the aging? I'd find a drugstore cream.
Katherine: Hilarious. But see, I'm not getting any younger, so spell away.
Tessa: Altering someone's lifespan is what started this whole mess in the first place. I've learned my lesson. I'm not saving your life.
  • Inconvenient Attraction: Deep down she knows Silas is a loathsome man who doesn't deserve her attention after his betrayal, but she still can't help but feel attracted to him in some fashion.
  • Ineffectual Sympathetic Villain: Despite all of the horrible things that she had done, it is possible to sympathize with Qetsiyah because of the heartbreak and trauma that she had been though. She was betrayed by the man that she loved deeply (Silas) and was also betrayed by someone who she thought was her loyal friend (Amara)
  • Insane Equals Violent: Qetsiyah is mentally unstable, psychotic, deranged as well as violent. According to the legend, she ended up brutally murdering an innocent woman (Amara) over a man (Silas) who did not love her whatsoever by slitting her throat and cutting out her heart. However even though the legend turned out to be false about her slaughtering Amara mercilessly, what she really did to Amara was not much better. Qetsiyah actually ended up petrifying Amara as an immortal and using her in a spell to make her the physical anchor to the Other Side. As a result, Amara ended up suffering by enduring endless supernatural deaths passing through her for over two thousand years. On top of it, she desiccated Silas as an immortal and entombed him in a cave with the cure. Therefore, Silas ended up suffering from severe thirst and fossilized for two thousand years. Silas also became insane, mentally deranged and twisted due to his imprisonment along with believing that Amara was murdered.
  • Iron Lady: Cold, domineering and icy, Qetsiyah became this over the centuries, despite being Hot-Blooded and having an aggressive Hair-Trigger Temper.
  • It's All About Me: Qetsiyah was extremely selfish in her vengeance, as she ended up creating The Other Side (a place where supernatural beings go to after they die and have been suffering for over 2,000 years) all because Qetsiyah couldn't bear the thought of Silas being reunited in death with Amara., thus causing every other supernatural being in the planet to suffer as well.
  • Killed Off for Real: Qetsiyah kills herself after cutting herself and experiencing a loss of blood. She ends up crossing over to the Other Side. Silas, who also died, is now stuck with Qetsiyah on the Other Side for all eternity and is separated from his one true love (Amara) forever.
  • Lack of Empathy: Qetsiyah showed zero remorse for causing endless suffering for others (namely Silas and Amara) out of vengefulness and spite. She also doesn't seem to care that she caused many supernatural beings to end up trapped in a supernatural purgatory (where they would be unable to find peace in the afterlife) all because they are supernatural and all because of her pettiness over a man that didn't love her.
  • Lady of Black Magic: Qetsiyah is said to be one of the most powerful witches of all time, according to Silas.
  • Lady of War: In the flashbacks, Qetsiyah appeared to be this during 1st Century B.C.
  • Light Is Not Good: Wears lighter colors but does not have good intentions.
  • Love Hungry: Qetsiyah was obsessed with Silas to dangerous and psychotic proportions.
  • Love Hurts: Qetsiyah loved Silas so much (too much actually) yet Silas did not love her back and loved someone else (Amara). This made her snap and create a convoluted revenge plan that affected thousands of lives.
  • Love Makes You Crazy: She seemed to be a fairly normal woman until she fell in love with Silas, and when he betrayed her, she was so consumed by vengeance and spite that it took over her entire personality ever since. The fact she had to watch Silas and Amara's Doppelgangers be born into the world only to fall in love again and again drove her deeper into madness.
  • Love Makes You Dumb: She was one of the most powerful and brilliant witches in the world, yet defied the laws of nature herself in order to make an elixir of immortality for her beloved... who then betrayed her and used it on another woman. No wonder she snapped and became a major Woman Scorned.
  • Love Makes You Evil: Qetsiyah originally seemed like a Nice Girl who had good intentions and just wanted to be with the man that she loved. However, once Silas betrayed her, she did a Faceā€“Heel Turn and became unhinged, crazy, evil and psychotic. She killed Amara just because Silas loved her and created a supernatural purgatory just to make sure they'd never be together.
  • Love Martyr: For Silas. Qetsiyah admitted that she would do anything for him. She even violated the laws of nature and created the very first spell of immortality just because Silas asked her to. She actually came off as an Extreme Doormat for him as Silas did mistreat her, manipulate her, lie to her and betrayed her without any regard for how she might have felt afterwards.

    M-Y
  • Mad Love: Towards Silas, of course. She was obsessed with him to psychotic and crazy proportions. However, Silas did not feel the same way and instead loved another woman over her. Silas tried to make a point to Qetsiyah in the modern times that she should just get over her need for revenge and just accept that he did not and will never love her. Unfortunately for him she does, but she still wants revenge.
  • Manipulative Bitch:
    • She manipulated and lured Silas onto an island and entombed him with the cure, where Silas. Either he would be desiccating for eternity or he'd kill himself thinking he'd join his beloved in the afterlife, not knowing he'd actually ended up trapped in The Other Side. Lucky for him, he picked getting to keep living, just to spite her.
    • When Silas seemingly Out-Gambitted her and got her locked in her cabin, she manages to lure Elena there just by implying she's seducing Stefan, thus having Elena as her hostage so she can get Damon to do her bidding even inside the cabin.
    • When she created The Other Side, she bound it to Amara's immortal body, which ensured that Silas could never be with Amara ever again, as even if Silas was ever freed and succeeded in his plan to die, he would be stuck in the Other Side and even if the Other Side did happen to be destroyed, that would mean Amara would be destroyed alongside it.
  • The Mentally Disturbed: By her admission, she hasn't been holding that well mentally for a long time.
  • Ms. Fanservice: Qetsiyah is a Head-Turning Beauty who wears a lot of fashionable clothes. including a lot of Pimped-Out Dress in 1st Century B.C. flashbacks, and even dresses up as Cleopatra for a costumed party. She also can act quite seductively when she wants to.
  • Murder the Hypotenuse: Does this to Amara in the most brutal fashion as well according to the legend. It was believed that Qetsiyah had cured Amara of immortality, slit her throat with a knife and cut out her heart. However, this was later revealed to be untrue. It turns out that Qetsiyah did something so much worse in that she desiccated Amara and made her the anchor to the Other Side, in which Amara was subjected to enduring the death of every single supernatural creature for over two thousand years. So much worse than what the legend suggested.
  • Names to Run Away from Really Fast: Qetsiyah is known to be one of the most powerful witches in all of history. She is very much feared and respected at the same time. She could be considered to be The Dreaded.
  • Noble Demon: Despite her deranged and psychotic personality, she seems to be rather noble and composed at times, despite her evil intentions.
  • Not Evil, Just Misunderstood: How some people from the audience and the fandom see Qetsiyah. Some see her as someone who is irredeemable, completely evil, hateful and vengeful and others sympathize with her due to the fact that she was betrayed by two people she trusted and don't make her out to be a villainous monster.
  • Not Good with Rejection: Qetsiyah DID NOT take Silas not loving her back very well at all and got twisted into a vengeful and petty woman who became obsessed with punishing Silas and Amara.
  • "Not So Different" Remark: She trials so appeal to Damon with this when offering him the chance to be with Elena and getting rid of Stefan. But Damon cares about his brother too much to accept such a deal, and doesn't see himself in her.
Qetsiyah: You and I are the same, Damon... the obstacle standing between two fates. Silas had his true love, and Stefan has Elena. We're merely the conflict that makes it interesting.
  • Only One Name: She doesn't have last name and only goes by a first name. It's most likely because during 1st century B.C., last names were not yet used.
  • Opposites Attract Revenge: In regards to Qetsiyah and Silas' lover. It was taken to extreme levels since Qetsiyah ended up killing Silas' true love out of anger and jealousy.
  • The Paranoiac: Silas' betrayal made her into a very distrustful and paranoid person, and she pretty much never trusts anyone she interacts with.
  • Proud Beauty: She's as beautiful as she is arrogant. When asked why she came to the costume ball dressed like Cleopatra, she snarks that "Last time I looked this good, I couldn't enjoy it".
  • Psychotic Love Triangle: Involved in the most unpredictable, crazy and tragic one of the entire series; the triangle between herself, Silas and Amara.
  • Psycho Ex-Girlfriend: To Silas. After they betrayed her, Qetsiyah killed Amara and entombed Silas hoping that he would take the cure, kill himself so he would end up trapped on The Other Side for eternity with her instead of Amara. When Silas knew this was her intention, he decided to starve and desiccate for eternity instead just to spite Qetsiyah. But that did not stop Qetsiyah. She spent 2,000 years obsessing over Silas and now she has come back as a mortal being from The Other Side to finish off what she started 2,000 years ago in person.
  • Purple Is Powerful: She's considered the most powerful witch in the setting, and is often wearing purple-colored clothing.
  • Regal Ringlets In the 1st Century B.C. flashbacks she has this hairstyle, demonstrating her regal status. She also ended up using them in the modern times as well, when she dressed up as Cleopatra.
  • Removing the Rival: Qetsiyah killed Silas' true love, whom she deemed as competition for Silas' affections.
  • Resurrection Revenge: When Bonnie lowers the veil, she takes the opportunity to revive herself, so she can take her revenge on Silas with her own hands.
  • The Resenter: Towards Silas, for betraying her, and Amara for being the one whom he truly loved.
  • Revenge Before Reason: Qetsiyah is driven by revenge, as opposed to Silas, who despite being a villain, is driven by love.
  • Revenge by Proxy: She seems to enjoy toying with Elena's emotions, specifically by flirting with Stefan and pretending she seduced and slept with him, as she likely sees it as getting revenge on Elena's ancestor Amara.
  • Romantic Runner-Up: To Amara for Silas.
  • She Who Must Not Be Seen: Qetsiyah was a major driving force behind the plot of season four as she claims "[her] hunters have failed in their task to kill Silas", suggesting she's behind the creation of the Brotherhood of the Five.
  • Silk Hiding Steel: She comes across as very cold and icy, but she is actually very fierce, passionate and hot-headed underneath the facade.
  • Smug Smiler: Often doing this when interacting with people, it's expected since Qetsiyah is very arrogant and knows there's no possible way for Silas to get what he wants.
  • Smug Snake: While she's quite The Chessmaster she not nearly as smart as invincible as she would like to think. Best exemplified when she starts bragging about considering every possibility in her plan and then unable to leave her home due to a binding spell.
  • Smug Super: Qetsiyah is regarded as possibly the most powerful witch of all time and she doesn't mind displaying it by doing immoral things and looking down on other people.
  • The Sociopath: Qetsiyah is psychotic and seems to have a serious lack of empathy. She doesn't seem to show any regard for the idea that her quest for vengeance against a man that wanted nothing to do with her had cost many innocent people much suffering and torment. After all, it was all about her and her thirst for having Silas at any cost.
  • Spoiled Brat: Destroyed lives and made others suffer all because she wanted to get back at Silas.
  • Squishy Mage: She might be the strongest magician in the setting, but she isn't very impressive physically. At one point, Silas even manages to get her to give him info by compelling her.
  • The Tease: She enjoys flirting and teasing Stefan, partly to make him uncomfortable, partly to make Elena jealous and partly because she's somewhat attracted to him.
  • Time Abyss: As an immortal, she is over 2,000 years by the time of the series, and one of the oldest beings that exist in the setting.
  • Tragic Dream: Qetsiyah desperately wanted to be loved by Silas. Unfortunately for her, Silas never loved her and instead, loved Amara, her handmaiden. Although, it could be said that technically speaking, Qetsiyah "won" Silas in the end (only by force) due to Silas dying and crossing over to The Other Side, where he will be trapped with Qetsiyah for all of eternity and separated from his one true love for all time.
  • Tragic Villain: Qetsiyah seemed to be a normal person in love with a man (Silas). However, Silas betrayed her and she became obsessed with Silas to psychotic proportions. Even though she has made her life and afterlife mission to destroy Silas' life as well as Amara's life, one can't help but feel sympathetic or sorry for her. Qetsiyah loved Silas for over 2,000 years and yet, he never loved her back.
  • Unrequited Love: Qetsiyah was strongly in love (more like obsessed) with Silas but Silas didn't love her back, much to Qetsiyah's dismay.
  • Unseen No More: She's the main driving force behind the events of season 4, but remains The Ghost. It's not until season 5 that she appears in the flesh.
  • Unstoppable Rage: Qetsiyah's anger regarding Silas' betrayal is what drove her to resort to her extreme actions.
  • The Vamp: Qetsiyah is definitely a villainous Femme Fatale who has no issue with using her sexuality to get men to do what she wants or merely, to gain an advantage of them. She attempted this with Stefan, but it didn't exactly work out in her favor.
  • Villain No Longer Idle: She has been manipulating events in order to get rid of Silas from The Other Side for centuries. When Bonnie lowers the veil, she takes the chance to resurrect herself and take matters in her own hands.
  • Wicked Cultured: She came from a time period where she would have had many upper-class and intellectual interests. Plus, she came from a wealthy and noble family and she's a witch, which increases the probability that she engaged in many cultured events.
  • Woman Of Wealth And Taste: Qetsiyah came from the 1st century B.C. Ancient Greece. She's bound to have a sophisticated aura about her.
  • Woman Scorned: And how! When Silas betrayed her on her wedding day for Amara, Qetisyah snapped and damned both to a Fate Worse than Death in her revenge plot: The immortal Silas got Buried Alive in darkness, leaving him to desiccate and fossilize for centuries, while Amara was used as the anchor for the Other Side, which made Amara experience every single supernatural death in the world. This means that because of Qetsiyah, Amara suffered for two thousand years desiccating and starving and seeing endless dead supernatural beings. Her revenge would even follow them in the afterlife, as Qetsiyah manipulated things to ensure Silas and Amara could not end up together in the afterlife. Said revenge plan also resulted in the entrapment and suffering of thousands of unrelated supernatural beings who ended up in The Other Side, but all she cared about was her revenge.
  • Woobie, Destroyer of Worlds: Her husband-to-be Silas convinced her to use her magic to defy the laws of nature and create an immortality elixir so they could be together forever, but it was a trick, and he abandoned Qetsiyah on their wedding day and used the immortality elixir on himself and his true love, Amara. In return, she ended up creating a purgatory dimension The Other Side in a revenge plan to punish them both. However, The Other Side also became a worldwide purgatory that imprisoned the souls of every supernatural being who had died, damning them all to spend an eternity in a state of solitude. For her crimes in creating immortality and The Other Side, she was executed by her people, the travelers, and went to The Other Side herself, where she was Forced to Watch for centuries the Silas and Amara Doppelgangers meeting each other and fall in love again, and again, which drove her even more mad for revenge.
  • World's Best Warrior: She's considered the most powerful and influential magic-user in the setting, having created immortality and even a purgatory for supernatural beings. Even the spell Esther used to create vampirism was derived from the magic that Qetsiyah created.
  • Yandere: Could be the Trope Codifier. She was this for Silas, to such an extent that she created an afterlife called "The Other Side", just for supernaturals, so that if Silas did take the cure, he would be with her for eternity instead of the woman he really truly loved. She also made Silas horribly disfigured so no woman would love him again. She also used Amara as an anchor for the Other Side, which made Amara experience every single supernatural death. This means that because of Qetsiyah, Amara suffered for two thousand years desiccating and starving and seeing endless dead supernatural beings. That is what you call a Fate Worse than Death for both Silas and Amara.
