"This city is full of monsters."
Kieran is a priest with a dark past. According to Kieran, his parish was once the heart of the neighbourhood until a massacre happened inside the church. Kieran takes vervain and knows about the vampires, including the Original Vampires. While Kieran generally does not interfere with Marcel's affairs, he draws the line when it comes to the welfare of the humans in the community.
- Badass Boast: To Marcel: "You wanna be the boss, you wanna call the shots, fine. But I call the shots with the humans! And you don't want to make an enemy of me...!"
- Badass Preacher: He has shades of this. Klaus and Marcel respect him for his courage.
- Character Death: Klaus turns him into a vampire in hopes of putting a stop to the hex, but it fails. He then stakes Kieran, killing him to stop him from hurting Cami.
- Cruel and Unusual Death: This was beginning to happen to him; the hex makes people go mad and kill before killing themselves; Klaus was forced to mercy kill Kieran when siring him didn't work.
- Deal with the Devil: Eh, sort of. Though Kieran technically has a 'deal' with Marcel over how the city is run, it seems more like a give-and-take alliance than anything else (Marcel as the vampire king, and Kieran standing in as a representative of the human faction). This is further subverted when it's heavily implied Marcel's rule is dependent on people like Father Kieran keeping his secrets. He mentions that he would make a literal deal with the devil to see Agnes meet her comeuppance.
- Enemy Mine: Previously, with Marcel. Kieran came to him to help stop the witch's Harvest ritual that would require the sacrifice of four girls.
- Mercy Kill: What Klaus is forced to do for him as vampirism didn't cure the Hex.
- Only Sane Man: He attempts to procure a peaceful arrangement with the Human Council and new King Klaus. He tries to make the arrogant Council understand that pissing off an ancient borderline unkillable Vampire and his army of the Undead is a bad idea. This leads to him being the only surviving member of said council. His relation to Camille doesn't hurt either.
- The Fettered: Unlike the rest of the Human Faction, who most of are or were corrupt(see above), Kieran genuinely cares about the community and wellbeing of people.
- Turbulent Priest: Averted, or at least subverted. While Kieran is pretty clear in his dislike of the vampire king, Marcel, he's not with the witches resistance against him. Instead, he has Enemy Mine arrangements with Marcel against the witches and is part of why Marcel gets away with what he does in the Quarter.
- Vitriolic Best Buds: It might be one-sided, but despite their strained relationship, Marcel considered him a friend and a good man; Davina seems to think they were friends too.
Sean O'Connell
Sean O'Connell
Played By: Matt Kabus
Camille's twin brother and Father Kieran's nephew. He was studying to become a priest like his uncle when an angry witch at Kieran's interference with the New Orleans Coven's Harvest ritual hexed him with the Rosary of Madness. Shortly afterwards, the hex drove Sean insane and caused him to kill all nine of his fellow seminary students before finally killing himself.
- Ax-Crazy: Due to being hexed.
- Character Death: Sean died as a result of the hex placed on him by the witches.
- Murder-Suicide: He killed nine people and himself.
- Posthumous Character: He died before the beginning of the series.

Tim
Timothy "Tim"
Played By: Shane Coffey
Davina's first love. Davina referred to him as her "best friend."
- Boy Next Door: He's sweet, easy on the eyes, a musical prodigy. No wonder Davina's smitten.
- Childhood Sweet Heart: Was one for Davina.
- Killed Off for Real: Damn you, Klaus.
- Sacrificial Lamb: He is mercilessly killed to show how far Klaus will go if he cannot control Davina. Tim, like Davina, was but a child, only 16. Klaus has killed children before; however, the twin sons of Papa Tunde looked even younger than Tim.
- Unwitting Pawn: After Davina supposedly knocks Klaus unconscious, Tim offers Davina a drink of water - before drinking it himself - and it's realised Klaus poisoned the water and compelled Tim to give it to her.
Tatia Petrova
Tatia Petrova
"Fate does not dictate my heart, Elijah."
Played By: Nina Dobrev
A Petrova doppelgänger with Niklaus and Elijah Mikaelson fell in love in the late 10th/early 11th century. She is the first doppelgänger to be created from Amara's line after she was turned into a true immortal in the 1st century B.C.

The detective assigned to the serial murder case that Cami and Vincent are also investigating.
- Fair Cop: It's Jason Dohring, duh.
- Hero Antagonist: He's a good cop doing his job well, and unfortunately, all the clues seem to point straight at Cami.
- Locked Out of the Loop: Unusually for the show, he's completely ignorant of the supernatural.

The new sheriff of Mystic Falls, introduced in season 2 and replacing Matt Donovan, who was elected mayor.
