The Seven Players

    General
The seven people chosen to play the Sakabashira game.
  • Aerith and Bob: The cast consists of Alex, Ceci, Bella, Evan, Harold, Marjorie...and Cool.
  • Asshole Victim: It turns out that all of them except for Alex and Bella committed some murder in life before being forced into the Deadly Game, all but Alex die by the end, and Cool wonders if this is meant to be their punishment. However, it's later revealed that the Host picks players at random, so it's a complete coincidence that most of the players are killers.
  • Canon Name: Everyone has this even though you can name them yourself.
  • Dwindling Party: Regardless of who you go with, this happens:
    • With Ceci, Bella and Evan: Bella is killed by Evan as the sacrifice, Evan himself becomes corrupted and is killed in a Boss Battle, and Ceci never was a human and is the actual final horror to be cleansed.
    • With Marjorie, Cool and Harold: Marjorie is killed by the first boss then used as "decoration" because it couldn't eat her, Harold is killed by Cool to make the sacrifice then Cool himself is killed by Ceci who is waiting for Alex at the end.
  • Hello, [Insert Name Here]: You can name everyone, though they do have their Canon Names.
  • A House Divided: Because almost everyone is a raging jerk in some way, no one is willing to cooperate properly, leading to various arguments and disagreements.
  • Killed Offscreen: This happens regardless of the route chosen:
    • In the Leave route:
      • The game dev confirmed in a reply on the game page that, in the Leave route, Cool and Marjorie eventually perished after trying to escape in addition to everyone else despite their deaths being unseen. This is further proven by the option to revive them in the end.
      • Harold is the first to try leaving. The group finds his corpse not too far in the beginning, probably because he was too impatient to follow the petal trail, as Evan suggests.
    • In the Stay route:
      • Although they go unmentioned, Evan and Bella do perish somehow; as Ceci states that Cool was the only one remaining aside from Alex. Furthermore, the aforementioned revive option remains the same.
      • This happens to Marjorie as well when Alex calls her out for murdering her family and Marjorie runs off. The gang later find her corpse.
      • This also happens to Cool. He's seen decapitated in the final Boss Room courtesy of Ceci after he rushed to the exit seconds prior.
    • If you send Evan back to the real world, he will be seen at his sister's grave apologizing and promising they'll be together soon.
  • Seven Deadly Sins: The seven contestants fit the pattern:
  • Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: None of them really likes or trusts the others, and arguments are quite frequent between them. Nonetheless, they still work together to find an exit.
  • You Wake Up in a Room: Alex and the other people wake up in a strange place with no recollection of how you ended up there.

    Alex
The protagonist of the game. An amnesiac 21-year-old, he wakes up in a mysterious location with 6 other people.
  • Action Survivor: He's an ordinary person but eventually gets forced to fight for his life against supernatural beings.
  • All-Loving Hero: He is the only one who is accepting and supportive of everyone in spite of their flaws.
  • Ambiguously Absent Parent: Alex is revealed to have been raised in the same orphanage as Evan and his sister, but it's never alluded to what happened to his biological parents.
  • Amnesiac Hero: Alex has no memory of his life except for his name.
  • Badass Normal: Has no supernatural abilities, and thus relies on fighting the Horrors with what he has.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: He gets pissed off with Evan gloating and mocking him and proceeds to fight him till he kills him.
  • Blue Is Heroic: He's wearing a blue jacket.
  • Broken Hero: Despite his Dark and Troubled Past below, Alex is incredibly kind and considerate, as opposed to everyone else.
  • The Cameo: Appears in A House for Alesa 3 as a survivor alongside the Automaton, Mia Gepetto, Marion and Sandy.
  • Cassandra Truth: Alex was in the same orphanage as Evan and his sister, and is the only one to know the truth about her death being caused by her brother, but no one believed him.
  • The Chosen One: Anyone who makes it through the Deadly Game is referred to as such. In both endings, Alex is the only one who survives, and he can choose to go home or sacrifice himself so someone else does.
  • Connected All Along: The Leave ending reveals that both Alex and Evan were raised in the same orphanage.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: Lost his parents somehow and ended up in an Orphanage of Fear with an Enfant Terrible like Evan, witnessed him kill his sister and nobody believed him.
  • David Versus Goliath: Basically all of his battles against all the Horrors.
  • Determinator: Fighting through the Deadly Game, monsters and bosses definitely makes him one.
  • Did You Just Flip Off Cthulhu?: His fight with Evan is more personal than the other ones, and Alex makes sure Evan knows it by delivering a scathing speech towards him.
  • Did You Just Punch Out Cthulhu?: Alex manages to defeat four Eldritch Abominations all by himself.
  • Even the Loving Hero Has Hated Ones:
    • Once Evan reveals his true nature and Alex remembers his past with him, he becomes determined to make him pay.
    • The same happens with Marjorie when she admits to killing her family. Alex is enraged upon hearing it.
  • Foil: To Evan. Both of them grew up in the same orphanage but aside from that, they're as different as can be: Alex is a good guy wearing light clothes while Evan is a bad guy wearing dark. Alex didn't let a terrible childhood affect him growing up and is Happily Adopted; Evan turned out horrible because of the circumstances and ended up on the street.
  • Good Is Not Soft: Alex does not hold back in fighting the horrors, especially against Evan.
  • Happily Adopted: Alex is revealed to be this, having lived in the same orphanage as Evan.
  • The Hero: He's the main protagonist and the one who fights off the horrors.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: At the end of the game, you have the option to revive another player instead of going back yourself.
  • Hidden Depths: Seems to have some knowledge about Japanese folklore, as he correctly guesses the pillars set up in the first room are meant to represent the sakabashira.
  • Innocently Insensitive: In trying to figure out how long they've been where they are, Alex asks Harold (who was the first to arrive) if he was already old when he got there. Of course, Harold takes this the wrong way.
Evan: Wow...and I thought I lacked social skills.
  • It's Personal: Alex is seen more enraged going up against Evan compared to any other boss battle. This is understandable, since he remembers how terrible Evan always been since they were little.
  • Laser-Guided Amnesia: If you do choose to send someone else home instead of yourself, Alex will be back to the beginning of the game with no recollection of what happened.
  • The Leader: He takes the role of leading the way out, solving puzzles and defeating the Horrors.
  • Meaningful Name: Alex means "Defender/Protector of man", which goes well with him being the protagonist who fights off these supernatural beings to help everyone else go back to their world.
  • Nice Guy: In contrast to most of the other players, Alex is consistently shown to be a kind person who tries to look out for everyone and is understanding of others.
  • Not What It Looks Like: Trying to converse with Bella in the bathroom will lead to her accusing Alex of sneaking up on her in a vulnerable position and Alex trying to respond with this.
  • A Protagonist Shall Lead Them: Because he's the Player Character, this is a given.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: Delivers a brutal one to Evan when he remembers how he was back at the orphanage.
  • Senseless Sacrifice: If he sends Evan back, he will be regretful of his sister's murder, but he resolves to commit suicide to be with her again.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Should he choose to save himself instead of pulling a Heroic Sacrifice.
  • Sole Survivor: By the end of both routes, only Alex survives. Even If you choose to revive someone else, he will remain alive but trapped in a cycle with no memories of his sacrifice.
  • Stunned Silence: He couldn't muster up any words to say after Ceci reveals her true form in preparation for the final showdown.
  • Token Good Teammate: Alex is the only one in the group who is consistently nice and supportive of everyone, while everyone else is a murderer, a Jerkass, self-centered (Belle), or secretly a Horror (Ceci).
  • Worthy Opponent: Both Ceci and the Host commend Alex for beating the Sakabashira Game.
  • Would Hit a Girl: Justified because they're technically Horrors, so he has no qualms about defeating Ceci and the first horror in combat.
  • Wowing Cthulhu: Earning admiration from two Eldritch Abominations after defeating them definitely counts.
  • You Monster!: When he recalls his time at the orphanage and how Evan really was like, he tells him that he always was a monster.

    Ceci
A nurse who greets Alex when he wakes up in the strange world. She is adorable and friendly to everyone, and Alex starts to crush on her.
  • Affably Evil: Despite being revealed as The Mole and the final Horror who helps to run a Deadly Game, her niceness isn't a mask — she genuinely is friendly and congratulates Alex for beating her.
  • Alas, Poor Villain: Ceci's defeat is the only time a Horror's death was portrayed sympathetically, mostly because her hidden nature as the Final Boss breaks both her and Alex.
  • Ambiguously Evil: While she is knowingly working for the Host, her attitude towards the dead contestants and apology to Alex prior to her fight makes one wonder how explicit she really is in the Sakabashira Game.
  • Antagonist in Mourning: Given that Ceci is genuinely nice despite working for the Host, she's likely sincerely sad about all the deaths of the participants, present and past.
  • Anti-Villain: For being The Dragon of this story, Ceci is genuinely nice and affable.
  • Apologetic Attacker: She apologizes to Alex shortly before her boss battle starts.
  • Being Evil Sucks: Mostly implied. Ceci seems really shaken when faced with the deaths of past participants, but she still pushes through it anyway.
  • Did We Just Have Tea with Cthulhu?: Retroactively, the cast interacting with Ceci prior to the reveal about her true nature counts as this.
  • The Dragon: She serves the Host and helps them run the Deadly Game.
  • Eldritch Abomination: Her true nature. She's the final horror to be cleansed.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: Ceci is appalled when Alex remembers that Evan actually killed his sister back at the orphanage.
  • Evil All Along: Well, Ceci is still nice to you even after revealing her true nature, but still.
  • Face Death with Dignity: The fight against Ceci ends with her being a Graceful Loser, taking her defeat in stride.
  • Final Boss: She's actually the fourth and final horror Alex needs to cleanse to go home.
  • A Form You Are Comfortable With: Ceci, who's secretly the final horror we need to beat, takes on the form of a human girl in order to fool everyone else into thinking she's in the same situation as them.
  • Friendly Enemy: She's still her friendly self even while fighting Alex.
  • Game Face: This is how she reveals herself to Alex.
  • Go Out with a Smile: She's still smiling as she disappears after being defeated. It's not an endearing smile given her real monstrous form, but still.
  • Graceful Loser: When you defeat Ceci, she commends you for it.
  • The Heart: Plays the part of being the one to try and calm everyone down and stop fighting.
  • The Heavy: Whoever the voice that talks to you through your journey belongs to is never revealed, despite presumably being behind the whole ordeal. Ceci, on the other hand, accompanies you while posing as an ally when she is in fact part of the game, and ends up battling Alex herself in the end.
  • Human All Along: Inverted. It turns out she never was a human.
  • Love-Interest Traitor: It's implied that Alex gained a crush on her during the game, so he's only severely hurt when it turns out that she never was human to begin with, and is in fact the final Horror.
  • The Mole: Though seemingly another player, she is revealed to be the final Horror, serving under the Host and ensuring the game runs smoothly.
  • My Master, Right or Wrong: Despite her sincere sadness at the deaths of humans in the game, she still assists the Host with running it.
  • Nice Girl: Shockingly enough for an Eldritch Abomination, she's truly nice.
  • Noble Top Enforcer: Downplayed in that both the Host and Ceci are Affably Evil, and while the Host is rather honorable and honest in running their Deadly Game, they don't seem to have much sympathy for previous victims and it is implied they even look down on humans from one note. Ceci on the other hand, is openly affectionate and sympathetic towards humans and never once displays hatred towards them. Also, out of all the Horrors, she's the only one not keen on eating the players.
  • Not Quite Dead: It looks like Evan killed her right before his Boss Battle but after he's defeated, Ceci gets up and reveals herself as the actual final Horror.
  • Sympathy for the Hero: She shows sympathy for the dead participants in the game.
  • Supreme Chef: Somehow, despite secretly not being human, Alex finds her cooking good.
  • Token Good Teammate: Downplayed. All the Horrors can be considered Affably Evil (except Evan), though Ceci is notably the only one displays more virtuous qualities, even if her niceness was only to hide the truth about herself. She's also not interested in eating Alex like her peers.
  • Token Non-Human: She's revealed to be one of the Horrors, thus she's the only "contestant" who isn't actually a human.
  • Tom the Dark Lord: It especially stands out since she's the only Horror that actually has a name.
  • Undying Loyalty: Towards the Host of the Sakabashira Game. Even if death upsets her, she carries on with her duty.
  • Villain Respect: Towards Alex after he defeats her in a Boss Battle.
  • Walking Spoiler: It's impossible to discuss the endings without revealing her true nature.

    Marjorie
A baker who loves to make cookies to the point of single-minded obsession.
  • Affably Evil: It's true that she's a psychopathic murderer, but she's still cheery, albeit in a disturbing manner. Just don't insult her cookies.
  • Awful Wedded Life: Her husband beat her and cheated on her with other women.
  • Ax-Crazy: It's clear all is not well in Marjorie's head.
  • Berserk Button: Making fun of her beloved cookies.
  • Cloud Cuckoo Lander: She seems to have suffered from a Sanity Slippage that ended with her being the way she is now.
  • Dismembering the Body: Cheerfully admits to doing this after killing her husband to dispose of the body.
  • The Dog Bites Back: After being fed up with his abuse and cheating, Marjorie killed her husband.
  • Domestic Abuse: It's revealed in the Stay route that she fell victim to this courtesy of her husband. She killed him in retaliation.
  • Fat Bitch: She's noticeably more pudgy than the others, and turns out to be really mentally ill.
  • Four Eyes, Zero Soul: She appears to have glasses on and is batshit insane.
  • Insane Troll Logic: Her obsession with cookies leads to her thinking nonsensically.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: If you send her back to the real world, she'll be ambushed by the police for her crimes.
  • Offing the Offspring: After her kids were horrified by their father's murder, Marjorie killed them as well because they called her crazy.
  • Sacrificial Lion: In the Stay route, she's the first to die to show how serious the game is.
  • Sanity Slippage: As the game goes on, she goes from cheerful to disturbingly creepy.
  • Skewed Priorities: She doesn't want to leave because she wants to keep making cookies forever. Notably, she only changes her tune in the Stay route because there's no one to enjoy her cookies.
  • The Smurfette Principle: On the Stay route, Marjorie is the only female in your group.
  • Til Murder Do Us Part: She killed her husband because she snapped from his abuse and cheating.
  • Too Spicy for Yog-Sothoth: In the Stay route, Marjorie will ditch the group upon revealing her past murder of her family, and runs into the second boss who decided to eat her, but upon encountering it, it'll comment that it despised her taste and instead, she'll be used as "decoration", which the player can find later.
  • Trauma Conga Line: Marjorie used to be bullied in school for being fat and was called ugly, and when she thought she'd be happy after finally marrying, her husband abused her and cheated on her to the point where she killed him, and then killed their children.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Marjorie, really, really loves cookies, and every line she says for most of the game is about cookies in some way.
  • Unishment: She appears to regard her imprisonment as this, as she can make cookies forever now and thus refuses to leave. If you also choose to stay though, she'll change her mind because there's no point in making cookies if no one's around to eat them.
  • Villainous Breakdown: Gets one in the Stay route after she admits to killing her family and Alex and Harold call her a monster, resulting in her running off and getting Killed Offscreen.
  • Would Hurt a Child: In Marjorie's backstory, she killed her children when they were horrified by her murder of their father.
  • You Are Fat: She was apparently a target for these back in school. Evan also calls her fat at one point, much to her anger.

    Bella
A beauty-obsessed fashion model who becomes one of the prisoners of the game.
  • Actually Pretty Funny While everyone else is not amused, Bella laughs at Alex's Innocently Insensitive question about Harold being old.
  • Beauty Is Bad: Downplayed. She is a vain fashion model, but otherwise not as bad as others.
  • Buxom Beauty Standard: Implied. She has large breasts and works as a fashion model, although it's never outright stated if they are what make her seem appealing in the business.
  • Cleavage Window: She has large breasts that are partially visible thanks to one of these.
  • Don't Look At Me: Her Establishing Character Moment while being introduced by Ceci is telling Alex not to look at her because her hair is a mess.
  • The Fashionista: Bella is a model and is obsessed with her looks.
  • Green and Mean: She dresses in green and she's quite self-absorbed.
  • Human Sacrifice: Inadvertently becomes one when she's tricked and killed by Evan in the ritual.
  • Informed Attractiveness: She's described as beautiful In-Universe and supposedly this is why she has the job she has, but doesn't look all that different from everyone else.
  • It's All About Me: She's quite vain and self-absorbed about her looks.
  • Jerkass Has a Point:
    • She's unpleasant to Alex and refuses to share anything about her past, but in this situation, that's an understandable reaction.
    • She's also absolutely right about Alex sneaking up on her in silence in the bathroom despite seeing her when entering.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: She can be somewhat aggressive and insensitive, but she's not nearly as bad as others in the group.
  • Lascivious Beauty Mark: Has a distinguishing mole on her face to signify her being a fashion model.
  • Makeup Is Evil: Heavily downplayed. She's the only female mentioned to use makeup, but is actually the least reprehensible of the girls, if not the whole bunch.
  • Meaningful Name: Bella means beautiful in some languages such as Italian, Spanish, Greek, Portuguese and Latin, fitting with her job as a fashion model and her vain obsession with her looks.
  • Mysterious Past: Invoked. She doesn't trust anyone else so she doesn't reveal anything about her life except for her job.
  • Sacrificial Lion: In the Leave route, her murder by Evan in the last third of the game marks the point when the party becomes a Dwindling Party.
  • Token Minority: Bella and Cool are the only black characters in the game, and each one will go with you on both routes.
  • Pet the Dog:
    • Bella expresses regret upon seeing Harold's corpse in the Leave route.
    • She's happy to see Alex didn't die after the first boss fight, despite their squabble in the bathroom earlier.
  • Unprovoked Pervert Payback: Given her words if Alex walks up on her in the bathroom, Bella probably thought he was perving on her. In the same conversation, she also assumes he wants to know her body measurements.
  • Vanity Is Feminine: She's a fashion model with a high opinion and concern of her physical appearance.
  • Weight Woe: Bella is very concerned about her looks and fears gaining weight.

    Evan
A computer genius who doesn't get along with the other players.
  • Advancing Boss of Doom: Unlike other bosses, Evan chases you around and you have to move away from him for a bit before going in for the attack.
  • Arc Villain: He's only faced as a horror in the Leave route, serving as the Disc-One Final Boss.
  • The Artful Dodger: According to Evan, he ran away from the orphanage and found people like him and they formed a gang. They would steal and do whatever to survive.
  • Bait the Dog: Once the time for the sacrifice comes, Evan volunteers himself to be the one so the others can advance. But then he stabs Bella instead and calls everyone fools for thinking he'd give himself up.
  • Big Bad Wannabe: Once The Corruption turns him into a Horror, Evan hypes himself up to be the ultimate challenger to Alex. While he puts up a good fight, he's still outshined by Ceci who is the actual Final Boss.
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: At first appears to be the helpful smart guy, but then turns out to be an unsympathetic jerk.
  • Brainy Brunette: Evan is dark-haired and is a computer wiz.
  • Cain and Abel: Evan is revealed to the Cain to his sister's Abel. The two were raised in an orphanage where everyone feared Evan due to his erratic behavior, even his sister. When she was gonna get adopted, he got mad and pushed her off the second floor's window.
  • Climax Boss: Evan is fought right after the spoilerish revelations about his connection to Alex, and the truth behind his sister's death.
  • The Corruptible: Falls victim to some sort of corruption that turns him into a demon and the seemingly Final Boss of the Leave route.
  • Dark Is Evil: Has black hair and wears black clothes, and he's a soulless monster.
  • Death Equals Redemption: If you send him back to the real world, he resolves to join his sister in the afterlife after regretting his actions towards her.
  • Disc-One Final Boss: In the Leave route, it seems it's all over after you kill Evan...but then Ceci wakes up and reveals herself to be the final horror that needs to be cleansed, much to Alex's shock and distress.
  • The Dreaded: Alex mentions that everyone in the orphanage was scared of Evan, including his sister.
  • Driven by Envy: Because of his jealousy over her getting adopted, Evan killed his sister back at the orphanage.
  • Driven to Suicide: If you revive him. He kills himself offscreen to join his sister in death.
  • Dying Declaration of Hate: He perishes after his Boss Battle while telling Alex he hates him over and over again.
  • Enfant Terrible: Evan used to be one, to the point where everyone was afraid of him in the orphanage, even his own sister.
  • Evil All Along: At first, he appeared to be the aloof but helpful smart guy in the group, but as the game progresses on the Leave route, you find out that not only is he a condescending jerk, but also plain evil since childhood.
  • Evil Cannot Comprehend Good: Evan doesn't seem to understand that his sister was more favorable to be adopted than him because she wasn't at all an Evil Orphan like him.
  • Evil Is Petty: Not only did he kill his sister out of spite, but he's also an unbearable person overall, constantly making crude remarks about everyone.
  • Evil Orphan: Evan was very disturbing as a child and everyone in the orphanage was scared of him.
  • Evil Wears Black: He turns out to be evil and he wears fully black.
  • Eyes Out of Sight: Evan's dark hair covers his eyes.
  • Foil: To Alex. Both of them grew up in the same orphanage but aside from that, they're as different as can be: Alex is a good guy wearing light clothes while Evan is a bad guy wearing dark. Alex didn't let a terrible childhood affect him growing up and is Happily Adopted; Evan turned out horrible because of the circumstances and ended up on the streets.
  • Game Face: When he turns into a Horror, his face is revealed as distorted in a disturbing way.
  • Hate Sink: The more you progress with him, the more unlikable he becomes.
  • Heel Realization: Evan gets this if you send him back, apologizing to his dead sister for killing her. He also intends to follow her.
  • Informed Ability: Evan is a computer genius, but that never comes into play at all.
  • Insufferable Genius: Evan, who's apparently very good with computers (though as mentioned above, it's stuck as an Informed Ability). He's also very condescending.
  • Jerkass: Unrepentantly so. Calling him a jerk is an understatement.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Jerk: He is openly unpleasant and dismissive of the other party members right from the start, and in the Leave route is either putting the party down or Stealing the Credit for their work. Then about halfway through he confesses what seems to be a bad childhood, makes an effort to be nicer, and is even willing to sacrifice himself at the sacrifice altar to ensure the others make it through okay. Except it's an act so he can get Belle's guard down and sacrifice her, and he then gleefully confesses to being an Evil Orphan who made the orphanage he was in quiver in fear of him, and killed his own sister. He then decides to join the Horrors, becoming one himself.
  • Kick the Dog: Taunting the deaths of many, from the present to the past contestants, to his own sister whom he killed himself.
  • Lack of Empathy: Evan openly mocks everyone who died in the game.
  • More Hateable Minor Villain: The Big Bad Host is an Anti-Villain thanks to their honorable attributes, while Evan's role is more akin to a Hate Sink thanks to being a Jerkass since childhood.
  • Nightmare Fetishist: At one point, he will comment on how he likes the dark place with lit candles.
  • Pet the Dog: Exactly one moment. If Alex sends him back to the real world, Evan will realize his mistake in killing his sister and promises to repent by killing himself so he can join her in death.
  • Sibling Murder: He actually killed his sister years back out of jealousy at her being adopted and not him.
  • Silly Rabbit, Idealism Is for Kids!: He rebukes Ceci's positive attitude by bringing up his own terrible childhood and how optimism didn't do him any good in that time. Then again, it's not like he was actually any good as a child, as it's revealed later.
  • The Smart Guy: Plays himself up as this in the beginning, but it disappears the more you progress the game.
  • Sore Loser: Unlike Ceci, he doesn't take losing to Alex very well.
  • Stealing the Credit: At one point during the Leave route, Evan will boast that they wouldn't have gotten far without his smarts, despite him not contributing at all.
  • This Cannot Be!: His reaction to Alex defeating him.
  • Together in Death: If you send Evan back to the real world, he's seen talking to his dead sister, promising to join her.
  • Villainous Breakdown: He gets this when Alex defeats him.
  • Walking Spoiler: Because he's the Disc-One Final Boss of the Leave route, and the revelation about him killing his sister and being in the same orphanage as Alex.
  • Would Hit a Girl: Evan kills Bella in the Leave route due to his corruption. He was also revealed to be the killer of his sister who supposedly died of an illness.

    "Cool"
A tough guy who is only known by the name tag he wears, which says "Cool" on it.
  • At Least I Admit It: After Marjorie confesses to killing her family, Cool admits that he's no different and killed people for money. He's notably the only one who admits this without trying to incessantly justify it, being completely honest about his motive and the innocence of his victims.
  • Bald of Evil: He only has a beard, and his past as a Professional Killer doesn't make him saintly.
  • Beard of Evil: Has a goatee and used to be hitman.
  • Beware the Quiet Ones: He might be The Quiet One in the group, but he is still a dangerous man from his experience as a hitman.
  • Cool Shades: Fittingly enough, Cool has them.
  • Desecrating the Dead: When he kills Harold in the sacrifice, he ends up mutilating his corpse. Alex calls him out on it, and Cool attempts to justify it by saying it was old habits taking a hold of him, since he used to do killings for a living.
  • Died Standing Up: Strangely, even when Ceci decapitates him, his body is still standing.
  • Dirty Coward: When joining Alex, he tells him to lead the way in case there's life-threatening danger.
  • Elective Mute: If you stay, you'll find out that Cool can speak, he chooses not to because he trusts no one.
  • Everyone Calls Him "Barkeep": It's unclear if Cool is his real name or not, he just has a name tag with Cool written on it, so everyone calls him that. With him being a contract killer, it's possibly an alias.
  • Eyes Out of Sight: Due to his dark shades, his eyes are never revealed.
  • Four Eyes, Zero Soul: His Cool Shades double as this, because of his past job.
  • It's All About Me: In the Stay route, he rushes to the exit thinking he has to beat Alex to get out. He's decapitated by Ceci for his trouble.
  • Lack of Empathy: While he isn't proud of his time as a Professional Killer, he doesn't seem too bothered about his innocent victims.
  • Nay-Theist: Zigzagged. Cool merely speculates whether or not there is a God who cares about them or is actively punishing them, so he probably doesn't have strong faith in religion.
  • Nothing Personal: Says this to Alex when suggesting he takes the lead so if there's danger, he'll take the fall.
  • "Not So Different" Remark: He remarks that he's not very different from Marjorie since he's a killer as well, and even says everyone else is a sinner in some way.
  • Not So Stoic: Once he and Alex get close to the exit, Cool loses his quietness and exclaims that he'll be the one to get out of the game then runs off.
  • Off with His Head!: In the Stay route, when he and Alex get close to the exit, Cool runs off. Seconds later, we see him decapitated next to Ceci, who admits to killing him and being the final horror.
  • Old Shame: He's not proud of his past as a contract killer.
  • Only in It for the Money: He admits that he's not proud of being a contract killer and only did it for a paycheck.
  • Professional Killer: His job before he got sent to the game was a contract killer. He's not very proud of it and wonders if the Deadly Game is a punishment for his sins (it's not- the players are picked at random).
  • The Quiet One: Cool has the least dialogue of all the characters in the game.
  • Red and Black and Evil All Over: He's wearing a red shirt and dark shades, and though he demonstrates it only once, he's still very brutal when it comes to killing.
  • Scary Black Man: The others are less scared of him and more weirded out. That said, he's still a quiet former hitman who knows how to make good use of a knife. Just ask Harold.
  • Sinister Shades: His Cool Shades also have this effect to them.
  • The Stoic: True to his name, Cool doesn't emote at all.
  • There Is No Kill Like Overkill: He ends uo mutilating Harold's corpse quite a bit when he kills him as a sacrifice due to his old habits as a hitman.
  • Token Minority: Cool and Bella are the only black characters in the game, and each one will go with you on both routes.
  • Would Harm a Senior: In the Stay route, once the group reaches the sacrifice trial, Cool immediately suggests killing Harold on the basis that he's the elder and doesn't have much to live for, then kills the old man himself.

    Harold
A grumpy old man and the oldest of the players.
  • Berserk Button: Questions about his old age.
  • Everyone Has Standards: He has blood on his hands from the war, but thinks Marjorie is a monstrous psychopath for killing her family.
  • Evil Old Folks: While he initially seems like an ordinary Grumpy Old Man, the revelation of his time in the war and his unethical attempts to justify his killings put him here.
  • Excellent Judge of Character: For all his faults, he's the only player to ever have suspicions towards Evan, and it turns out he's spot-on.
  • Four Eyes, Zero Soul: He appears to wear glasses, and while not the worst person, he's still plenty unpleasant.
  • The Fundamentalist: When Cool speculates about their situation being created by God or not, Harold snaps at him that he doesn't know anything about the Lord and insists everyone can reach forgiveness if they accept the Lord in their hearts.
  • Grumpy Old Man: Harold, the only elder in the cast, is not very pleasant. The game page even refers to him by this trope's name.
  • Hidden Depths: Talking to him at the beginning of the game will show that he wonders whether or not he had a good enough life in the eyes of God, and expressing uncertainty and regret about his time in the war.
  • Holier Than Thou: He doesn't consider himself an evil person because he sees his killings in the war as morally justified, since he did it for his country.
  • Human Sacrifice: Harold is picked to be sacrificed in the ritual by Cool under the justification of him being the oldest and thus not having long to live anyway.
  • Hypocrite: He riles on Marjorie for killing her family when he has blood on his hands as well in the war.
  • Hypocrite Has a Point: Despite the above, he's still right that Marjorie is mentally unstable.
  • I Did What I Had to Do: How he justifies killing people in the war.
  • Jerkass: A lot of what he says isn't nice ever.
  • Meaningful Name: Harold derives from the Proto-Germanic harja-waldaz, meaning "military-power" or "army-ruler", and he is an Old Soldier.
  • Moral Myopia: Harold killed people like other contestants, but views himself above everyone else on the grounds that he did it in war for his country.
  • My Country, Right or Wrong: He turns out to be a war veteran who has no guilt about the people he killed in life, because he feels he did it for his country.
  • Old Soldier: A war veteran and the only elder in the game.
  • Sacrificial Lion: He's the first to die in the Leave route in one of the first rooms to indicate just how serious the Deadly Game is.
  • Screw Politeness, I'm a Senior!: Harold is the oldest of the characters and is often very rude.
  • Shell-Shocked Veteran: Apparently he still gets nightmares about his days in the war.
  • Too Dumb to Live: Because he was probably in a rush, Harold didn't bother following the petals in the Leave route and ended up dying.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Since he mentions it at least twice, his seem to be soup.

The Horrors

    The Host
The mysterious host of the Sakabashira Game. Mostly unseen, their voice is continuously heard, directing the players of the game.
  • Affably Evil: The voice always addresses the characters formally and politely, despite forcing them to play a Deadly Game. When Alex wins, they even offer to let Alex resurrect one of the dead players and are open about Alex needing to give up his chance to escape to do so.
  • Ambiguous Gender: They only appear as a voice with no gender indicators and are a clearly non-human entity. The humanoid thing that kills you if you step off the Cherry Blossoms might be them, but is also rather androgynous.
  • Ambiguous Situation: Are they the humanoid creature that kills you if you step off the petal trail? It's implied, but never confirmed.
  • Anti-Villain: This Eldritch Abomination is surprisingly polite, composed and graceful, as well as fair when it comes to running their Deadly Game.
  • Benevolent Abomination: More or less. The Host is the Big Bad and thus responsible for trapping Alex and the others in the first place, but it still pops in every now and then to instruct them on how to proceed as part of it being a Noble Demon.
  • Benevolent Boss: Implied. If you choose to save someone else, you'll be sent back to the beginning with Ceci waking you up, suggesting that the Host revived her (and possibly the other Horrors) despite Alex defeating them beforehand.
  • Berserk Button: The sole thing that can anger them is straying off the petal trail they ask participants to walk on.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: They're overall very accommodating towards the players. Just don't step off the petals or they won't be as nice.
  • Big Bad: The unseen host of the titular Deadly Game forces the seven characters into it, challenging them to reach the exit.
  • Did We Just Have Tea with Cthulhu?: While the cast never quite gets to share a cordial moment with them, the Host still invokes this trope in order to make sure the game is fair for them.
  • Eldritch Abomination: It is an unseen entity of great power that throws people into a pocket realm it created and forces them to play a Deadly Game for no real reason, it can resurrect people, and its origins are completely unknown.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: If they wanted, they could easily wipe out the contestants but they don't (unless they step off the flower petals, which they do give a warning about) because they prefer to give them a chance to win.
  • Evil Virtues: Honesty. The Host always keeps its word to ensure their game is fair to the contestants.
  • Fair-Play Villain: It has a set of rules for its Deadly Game that it outlines in full for players, and it always keeps its word.
  • For the Evulz: A note near the end reveals they really don't have any grand purpose for creating the Deadly Game, and pick the players at random.
  • Graceful Loser: They take Alex's victory in stride and grant him a way back to the real world as promised.
  • He Who Must Not Be Seen: They prefer to communicate through voice only.
  • Hidden Villain: Their identify is never revealed at any point in the game.
  • Horror Hates a Rulebreaker: A quite literal example; the Horror hosting the Deadly Game has one major rule, to Stay on the Path of Cherry Blossoms, and is you step outside the path, the Host will kill you explicitly for breaking the rule.
  • Humans Are Insects: It's only vaguely implied, as the Host is mostly cordial with the contestants, but one of the notes found near the end of the game has them scoff at the idea of humans thinking they're special for being picked to play their Deadly Game.
  • I Gave My Word: Should you actually survive till the end, the mysterious entity behind the ordeal will applaud you and give you the option to go home as promised.
  • Invincible Villain: While their servants can be defeated in combat, the Host seems completely out of reach to take out in a direct confrontation. The most you can do is defeat their game, forcing them to honor their deal to allow you to go back home.
  • Karma Houdini: Because it is an incomprehensible being outside the normal laws of the world, there's nothing that can be done to stop it from running their Deadly Game.
  • Kick the Dog: Despite being a mostly honorable being, they have their moments:
    • The only thing they say that's even remotely negative is found in one of the notes near the end, where they reveal that people picked for the game often think they're chosen for a reason, and scoff at the idea in a seemingly derisive manner.
The players are always selected at random, although they always think there's a reason why they were chosen. They think they're special...
    • Additionally, there's the fact that they included a Human Sacrifice ritual in the game for virtually no reason.
    • It's also telling that they're doing all of this for no apparent reason, and pick the players randomly, meaning a lot of innocents potentially die. It just so happened that Alex's turn had more guilty people.
  • A Lighter Shade of Black: The enigmatic unknown abomination comes off as somewhat better than Evan, who's really the only fight in the game that is malicious and callous towards the player.
  • Nice Guy: Despite coming across as a scary Eldritch Abomination, the Host is surprisingly hospitable and helpful towards those participating in their game.
  • Noble Demon: The unseen host seems to be one, as if you actually cleanse all horrors, they'll honor the deal and allow you to go home.
  • No Indoor Voice: It always speaks in all caps to indicate a booming voice of an Eldritch Abomination.
  • No, Mr. Bond, I Expect You to Dine: The players of their game are given an endless supply of food before playing.
  • No Name Given: They never introduce themselves to the contestants, leaving their name a mystery just like everything else about them.
  • Nothing Is Scarier: All we know about them is that they're an entity beyond human comprehension with a booming voice...Makes you wonder what exactly are they and where they came from.
  • Orcus on His Throne: The entity never directly attack the characters (except for possibly the Game Over screen). Justified in that it wants the contestants to fairly earn their victory.
  • Rank Scales with Asskicking: As the show runner of the Sakabashira Game, it is the most powerful being in the setting.
  • The Spook: Who are they? Where they did come from? Do they even have a name? No one knows.
  • The Unfought: Despite being the Big Bad, the Host is never confronted head-on or even seen at all in the game.
  • Unseen Evil: It's never encountered in person, despite being the overarching antagonist of the story.
  • Villain Respect: Shows admiration towards Alex for being able to win their game.
  • The Voice: They pop in every now and then to guide you through the game they are hosting, and never appear unless you step outside the cherry blossom petal path, in which a humanoid figure that may or may not be them kills you.
  • Why Don't You Just Shoot Him?: Justified. The Host is a Fair-Play Villain who wants to see if the participants can pass their game fair and square, even if they can easily kill them at any given moment if they wanted to.
  • You Cannot Grasp the True Form: Implied. The Host is at the very top of the food chain in their bizarre pocket dimension, always remains off screen and only communicates via talking and relies on minions as part of the game so perhaps their true form is too much for mortals and thus would render the game pointless.
