     Misc.

Gentle Leaf

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/gentle_leaf.PNG

  • Cute Mute: She cannot speak, though she's very expressive, and she's just adorable.
  • Hero-Worshipper: Later does her best to emulate Anguirus' look, and incessantly writes about how cool he is.
  • Intergenerational Friendship: She is the first friend Anguirus made in Equestria.
  • Morality Pet: For Anguirus.
  • Sir Swears-a-Lot: Even though she cannot speak, her thought processes include an extensive vocabulary.

Moonbeam Glimmer

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/moonbeam_glimmer_by_faith_wolff_da1ki22.png
"I was wrong once, I can't be again."

  • Affectionate Nickname: As children, Starlight called her "Moony".
  • The Atoner: After turning over a new leaf, she becomes determined to make it up to Junior.
  • Big Sister Instinct: She never left her baby sister on the night they lost their parents, even when confronted with the rampaging dragon. History repeated itself when Nightmare Godzilla was trying to get at Starlight as well.
  • Bullying a Dragon: It takes some serious balls to call Godzilla Junior a bastard child to his face just because his parents weren't married.
  • Cowardly Lion: She confronts Godzilla Junior and antagonizes him despite being absolutely terrified of him.
  • Didn't Think This Through: Her plan to convince the public that Godzilla is a threat is to confront him and repeatedly piss him off by saying what she thinks of him to his face. If he had less self control, she would be dead. Even if he had snapped, the fact many ponies present knew exactly what she was trying to do and didn't agree with it (in fact she's booted out of the court as soon as possible) implies even if she had succeeded, it likely still wouldn't have gotten the outcome she wanted.
  • Freudian Excuse: As a child, she attempted to befriend a dragon, only for it to turn on her and murder her parents and neighbors. She saw a similar situation in the Equestrians befriending the Kaiju.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Becomes much nicer after Godzilla forgives her and urges her to forgive herself.
  • Knight Templar: Wanting to keep Equestria safe IS a noble goal, but trying to petrify someone for no other reason than 'I think you MIGHT be dangerous' ultimately puts her in this category.
  • Nothing Personal: Her beef with Godzilla Junior isn't against him as an individual, she just thinks his morality must be so different and his family history too shady to think he's trustworthy enough to have out in a public area.
  • Orphan's Ordeal: Lost her family to a dragon attack two decades ago. She blames herself for the incident as the dragon followed her home when she met and tried to befriend it out in the woods.
  • Promotion to Parent: After their parents died, she helped raise her little sister Starlight alongside their adoptive parents.
  • Scars Are Forever: She has one on the back of one of her front legs. She got it when she tried to offer up the necklace her father made for her to sate a greedy dragon to keep it from attacking her or Starlight. The dragon's claws raked across the back of her leg when it snatched it up.
  • Strong Family Resemblance: Subverted. She's Starlight Glimmer's big sister and they do have a somewhat similar body with purple fur, albeit different shades, curly manes, and celestial related names. However Moonbeam is a Pegasus and has a blue and purple color scheme instead of a Unicorn with a purple and violet scheme like Starlight.
  • Survivor Guilt: Survived the Foal Mountain Dragon Massacre that took her parents and others with the only other survivor being her then infant sister. Every week she visits her parent's graves to talk to them.
  • Thou Shalt Not Kill: She believes in this so much that she cannot accept even killing in self defense or to save a life, so she cannot accept the Kaiju as heroes.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: She genuinely wants to protect Equestria and its citizens, but her methods are inexcusable. She even proposes keeping the Kaiju petrified until they have to defend Equestria to minimize their interactions.
  • Wrong Genre Savvy: One could argue her entire misunderstanding with Godzilla Junior is she assumes that because he came from a completely different world and different lifestyle as Equestrians, he must operate under Blue-and-Orange Morality. As a psychologist, this is a pretty smart idea to avoid values dissonance. The problem is that many of the things she claims prove Godzilla Junior is an unpredictable and dangerous individual have nothing to do with how he behaves note , and he actually does abide by a scale of morality very similar to her own.

Cho Yon

Starlight Glimmer

  • Adaptational Angst Upgrade: When she was a baby, her parents and many of their friends and neighbors were killed in a dragon attack unwillingly provoked by her older sister, deeply traumatizing her & making her afraid of losing any more friends and relatives in the process, amplified by her stumbling over and studying King Sombra's tomb of dark magic.
  • Affectionate Nickname: As children, Moonbeam called her "Starly".
  • Broke Your Arm Punching Out Cthulhu: She manages to hurt and drain the energy of Grand King Ghidorah, but he instantly recovers and the strain and blowback puts her down for the count.
  • Don't You Dare Pity Me!: She becomes very angry if she perceives others taking it easy on her.
  • Evil Counterpart: After a bit of observation and self reflection, she realizes she is Mariner Chibi Moon's evil counterpart. They are both prodigies with destructive powers. While Chibi got Godzilla Junior as a mentor who taught her to control her destructive potential, the only mentor Starlight got was King Sombra, and she gave in to her hate.
  • Freudian Excuse: She's obsessed with making everypony equal because her childhood friend Sunburst and her older sister Moonbeam seemingly abandoned her after gaining their special talents, which reflected back on her pretty badly, since they were the only part of her old life which she could cling to after being orphaned in the Foal Mountain Dragon Attack. Also, when she took the entrance exam for Celestia's School for Gifted Unicorns, the testers doubted her magical prowess because she didn't have a Cutie Mark, which was out of concern rather than ignorance or malice, as they were about to propose to her to retry the exam once she had been a bit older and had accumulated more experience.
  • Heel–Face Turn: After being freed from Ghidorah's control and seeing the consequences of her actions, she attempts to atone.
  • Laser-Guided Amnesia: After their brief confrontation, Ghidorah erases her memory of the event.
  • Manchurian Agent: Ghidorah puts a subtle adjustment to her mind that makes her subconsciously target Godzilla Junior.
  • The Power of Hate: Many of her spells are powered by her anger and wrath. That's because she learned them from King Sombra's spellbook.
  • Power Incontinence: She tried using Sombra's spells to pass her entrance exam, but she lost control of her magic and nearly brought the building down. Also, she was continuously firing beams until she finally calmed down.
  • Power Nullifier: She can remove a pony's Cutie Mark and take away their talents. If she uses the spell on a non-pony, it drains their energy instead.
  • Super-Empowering: She gives her own Cutie Mark to Night Glider, giving her a massive power boost that allows her to help stop Nightmare Godzilla.
  • Wouldn't Hurt a Child: She would never attempt to harm a child or steal their Cutie Mark. She's horrified to discover she kidnapped Chibi Moon and stole her Cutie Mark while under Ghidorah's influence.

Audria Sentry / Audria Goodwing

     Ponyville

Mayor Mare

  • Entertainingly Wrong: After learning that Godzilla Junior and Mothra Lea rule the Defenders together, she assumes they are married. Amused, Lea corrects her.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: After Godzilla's battle against the Gyaos flock, she asks that Godzilla to be made a full citizen of Equestria and be pardoned for all damages he caused in the defense of Canterlot.
  • Seen It All: She's unphased by Moonbeam Glimmer trying to antagonize Godzilla, commenting to herself that the court session was not nearly as hectic as the ones she normally presides over.

Granny Smith

  • The Medic: She helps patch up Destroyah's injuries near the beginning of the fic and treats her fever.
  • Never Mess with Granny: She's able to cow Anguirus and Destroyah into obedience.

Vinyl Scratch/DJ Pon-3

  • Cool Car: Her mobile DJ booth.
  • I Need a Freaking Drink: Not exactly a drink, but after the incident with the Destroyah babies is over, she decides to relax and ask Ki Seong for some food.
  • Large Ham Radio: She hosts a radio show and acts as a DJ in Ponyville.
  • Suddenly Voiced: The canon Vinyl seems to be mute, but she is very talkative in this fic.
  • Unusually Uninteresting Sight: She is completely unphased by the Destroyah babies wrecking her studio.

Derpy Hooves

Ki Seong/Tea Song

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/823bf528a565151d00c64e53e565cca2.png
“What, take it you’ve never seen a kirin before?”

  • Accidental Misnaming: She tells Anguirus that the ponies always botch her name and call her Tea Song because they are not used to names that don't represent a being's looks and/or occupation.
  • Arranged Marriage: When she was a child, she was put in one with her neighbor Cho Yon. As they became teenagers, they slowly got to know each other and started falling in love, but it was ended by Jeog's attack.
  • Can't Hold His Liquor: She apparently gets inebriated very easily and switches between being an overly affectionate drunk and a dizzy one.
  • Fantasy Counterpart Culture: Her design, name, and species all point to her being the Equestrian equivalent to a Korean. On top of that she explains that her homeland, Carrea, is a peninsula located near Neighpon.
  • Foreign-Language Tirade: She apparently goes on these if she gets angry enough, using her native Carrean to disguise copious amounts of profanity.
  • Honorary Aunt: She is a good friend of Gentle Leaf's parents, and is considered her aunt.
  • Kirin: She's a kirin, a being resembling a deer with dragon scales and an equine mane. Her differences from the canon design introduced after her debut are explained as being due to belonging to different populations: Ki Seong is from Carrea, while canon design kirins are from Neighpon.
  • Let's Get Dangerous!: She prepares for a fight when the Destroyah babies invade her shop. Also during the fight with Jeog, especially once she decides she's Tired of Running.
  • Long Hair Is Feminine: Both her mane and hair tufts on hooves are fairly long, requiring her to tie both back when working.
  • Name Order Confusion: Following East Asian tradition, "Ki" is actually her surname and "Seong" note  is her given one. Equestrians don't know this and misheard her name as "Tea Song".
  • Nice Guy: Lets a complete stranger (Anguirus) inside just to get him out of the rain.
  • Relationship Upgrade: She and Anguirus finally admit their feelings and kiss in Chapter 37.
  • Secret Secret-Keeper: Eventually reveals she knew Anguirus' true identity the whole time, due to her niece Gentle Leaf writing her about him.
  • Ship Tease: Several with Anguirus, hinting at a mutual attraction after they meet a few times.
  • Silk Hiding Steel: This is the core of her personality, according to her bio. It refers to her as "kind, quiet, and quite caring to her fellow souls, but completely unmovable". We see this later when, after getting over the initial shock, she stands up to a horde of baby but still very destructive Destroyah, and basically tames them and puts them to work in her shop offscreen. Once she decides she's Tired of Running, she fights Jeog, stabbing her repeatedly with a fire poker and helping kill the monster.
  • Tired of Running: She decides she's this during the final confrontation with Jeog, realizing she'd been running since she first met the monster. She then proceeds to break free of Jeog's Kiss of Death and repeatedly stabs the monster with a fire poker, setting up Jeog's demise.
  • Tragic Keepsake: She kept the wedding garment she made for Cho Yon. Sadly, it gets destroyed by fire while Anguirus was wearing it (as part of a ploy to fool Jeog). At the very least, he looked good in it.
  • When She Smiles: Anguirus really likes the way she smiles and laughs.

Rainbow Dash Senior

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/rainbow_radiance_dash_sr__by_faith_wolff_dal56wupng.jpg
"Ah dahling! You've grown so big since I last saw you! And stunning as ever! Mix that mane and those cute eyes with one of those evening gowns I showed you how to make and you'll be beating back stallions with a stick!"

  • Amazingly Embarrassing Parents: Talks to Rainbow like she's a toddler in front of her friends, and freely jokes about the time she got her flight suit all sweaty.
  • Bag of Holding: Somehow fit a mace-like cane in her saddlebag.
  • Berserk Button: She'll let her daughter fight her own battles, but once she has a moment with Lightning Dust the latter quickly finds out that fashionista does not equal meek.
  • Chekhov's Gag: She offers Rarity a stick to defend herself with as a gag. Turns out she carried two of them in her Nightmare Night costume and uses them to fight Giranbo's clones.
  • Composite Character: Of both versions of the Generation 3 Rainbow Dash. Having the early version's speed and energy while having the later version's fashion skills.
  • Expy: Her personality is based on Edna Mode from The Incredibles.
  • In Spite of a Nail: She was introduced into the story prior to Rainbow Dash's canonical parents being introduced in the show. While Radiance is a very different character from Windy Whistles (who doesn't seem to exist in The Bridge), an offhand mention confirms that Radiance's husband is Rainbow Dash's canon father, Bow Hothoof, and Rainbow herself doesn't have any appreciable differences.
  • Let's Get Dangerous!: Rainbow Dash isn't the only Action Girl in the family. When she's in Ponyville and Giranbo attacks, Rainbow Dash Sr. has no problem jumping into the fray herself and proving a capable fighter.
  • Like Father, Like Son: While she and Rainbow differ in many ways, she was the one Rainbow Dash got her speed from, and the Halloween Special shows she's just as heroic and capable in a fight as her daughter.
  • Made of Iron: She's perfectly fine after crashing into a tree at super speed.
  • Mama Bear:
    • When she notices Rarity is troubled, she asks if she has to hurt somepony. She's also this to Rainbow, as while she lets her fight her own battles, Lightning Dust learns the hard way how much she cares about her.
    • She assists in the battle with Giranbo to protect Scootaloo from the child eating monster witch.
  • Mentor Archetype: Taught Rarity everything she knows about fashion.
  • Mythology Gag: As said above, she's G3 Rainbow Dash given her appearance and habits. She's even wearing her trademark sunhat.
  • Shipper on Deck: She becomes one for Rainbow Dash and Rodan.
  • Super-Speed: When Rarity calls her asking for help, in an instant she's standing at Rarity's front door despite being an Earth Pony. Rarity comments now she knows where Rainbow Dash got it from.

Dr. Ghost Story

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mlp_full_body_commission_holycross9_by_faith_wolff_dchqlye_4.png
“...My my, this story becomes more intriguing by the moment...”

  • Blind Without 'Em: She has poor eyesight without her glasses. Due to being nocturnal she also needs prescription sunglasses to be active during the day.
  • If Only You Knew: She connects Junior to Seiryū, the Azure Dragon. New Era makes several references suggesting she might be entirely accurate without knowing it.
  • Nightmare Fetishist: She's a fan of Nightmare Night and other macabre subjects, as she feels life's no fun without a good scare. Her bed is shaped like a coffin.
  • Not That Kind of Doctor: Her doctorate isn't in medicine, it's in Comparative Studies with a Concentration in Folklore.
  • Required Secondary Powers: She can read the moods of others, as being familiar with the audience's mood is important when telling a story. This allows her to quickly deduce Junior's heroic nature once she calms down enough to look, despite presently watching him fighting the Gyaos.
  • The Storyteller: Her special talent. She also owns a book store.
  • The Xenophile: She becomes fascinated by the Kaiju and attempts to learn more about them.

     Appleloosa

Braeburn

  • Action Survivor: During the Gyaos attack on Appleloosa, one invades his home and bites his arm until he manages to slam a door on its head and wound it. This action saves his life as the other Gyaos turned on and devoured their wounded member.
  • Cannot Spit It Out: He has a crush on Little Strongheart, but is too shy to tell her.
  • Catchphrase: "AAAAAAPPLE-LOOSA!" Applejack later reads a letter from him and is amused to find he even writes Appleloosa this way.
  • Luminescent Blush: Tends to do this when thinking of or near Little Strongheart.

Little Strongheart

  • Oblivious to Love: She doesn't seem to notice the obvious effect she's having on Braeburn while helping him walk.

Thalia

  • The Bartender: She runs the bar in Appleloosa and serves the drinks.
  • Cool Big Sis: Welcomes Rodan into her home with open hooves and helps build his confidence that he is welcome in Appleloosa.
  • Happily Married: To her husband Dallas.
  • Mr. Exposition: Teaches Rodan about how Princess Celestia used to be feared by the citizens, similar to the situation with the Kaiju.

Dallas

  • Covered in Scars: Due to a lifetime of rugged farm work.
  • Happily Married: To his wife Thalia.
  • Heroic Build: He's tall and has rock solid muscles.
  • The Stoic: Rodan comments that in contrast to the warm and talkative Thalia, he barely speaks or moves unless it is important.

Phoenix Flamez

  • Canon Immigrant: She originated from some fanart and drabbles that depict her befriending Rodan. Tarbtano and Faith-Wolff appreciated that enough to expand it into the story The Bridge: Phoenix Night and then have her appear in the main story.
  • Clingy Jealous Girl: She becomes jealous after a misunderstanding involving Rodan and Rainbow Dash.
  • Cool Teacher: Upon meeting Rodan and finding he has trouble moving in his new body, she gives him dance lessons, which greatly improve his balance and coordination.
  • You Are Not Alone: She is lonely because she is away from her family and her grandmother is dead. Rodan tells her that no matter how far apart they are, she is never alone, comparing it to how stars are in reality vast distances from each other, but look like they are right next to each other. She takes it to heart.

     Canterlot

Captain Blueberry Frost

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/captain_blueberry_frost.PNG
"Alright ya'll, no standin' 'round lookin' wide eyed and slack jawed at the big lizard and bats on my watch, we got a job to do. So congrats, you lot are getting some overtime hours! Right now Canterlot's going to Tartarus and back with all these ponies running scared, ya'll and I need to get the other guards on duty and sort this mess out best we can. This is an A-rank mission detail!"

  • Action Girl: Not much of a pen pusher, and she's almost never seen without her lance.
  • American Accents: Has a noticeable Dixie accent and it shows up a lot.
  • Benevolent Boss: To the royal guards under her command.
  • Body Double: She sometimes doubles for Celestia with the help of a glamour spell.
  • Book Dumb: She admits that she isn't well educated, but she's not stupid.
  • Bunny-Ears Lawyer: While she is very laid back and hates paperwork, she's not stupid. Be it when organizing the guards or figuring out the debacle with Godzilla was a huge misunderstanding.
  • The Captain: As Shining Armor's successor, she's Captain of the Celestial and Lunar guard after he moved to the Crystal Empire.
  • Companion Cube: Never seen without her lance. Some of the guard joke she sleeps with it. This is because it was a gift from her mentor Stalwart Sentry.
  • Dramatic Irony: Frustrated by Junior's obliviousness, she flat out tells Junior that Blade Dancer has feelings for him, unaware that those feelings have faded and transferred to Xenilla.
  • A Father to His Men: Honestly does care for her subordinates and helps grant Blade Dancer her leave.
  • Glamour: Her lance once wounded Queen Crysalis and still has some of her blood on it. It allows the holder to briefly alter their appearance similar to a Changeling. Blueberry Frost is even able to look like the much larger Celestia.
  • Huge Guy, Tiny Girl: She often appears in scenes alongside Godzilla Junior. She might be about average height for an Earth Pony mare, but Junior is an Alicorn sized giant that makes her look absolutely tiny by comparison. The image to the right is them standing next to each other and she doesn't even come up past his torso.
  • Let's Get Dangerous!: When it's time to get serious, such as during the Gyaos attack; she quite effective at organizing the guards.
  • Medals for Everyone: When the Gyaos attack Canterlot, she helps get some of younger guards in line by telling them they're promoted once the night's over.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: Is quite laid back and thinks through a situation before making a judgement. Upon getting the kaiju problem sorted out, she volunteers to enroll Godzilla in the guard program to keep an eye on him for his own good.
  • Secret Test of Character: Gave Godzilla Junior one when testing to see if he'd launch a counter attack upon awakening or launch an escape attempt when in transport. When he didn't and showed restraint against an unruly guard, she knew he was on the up and up.
  • Sentimental Drunk: While drunk, she leans against Junior and says he is handsome, though she quickly denies she is flirting with him.
  • Shipper on Deck: For Junior and Blade Dancer.
  • Side Bet: Placed a bet that Junior could beat up to ten of the guards in tug-o-war.

Stalwart Sentry

  • Famous Ancestor: He's Flash Sentry's father and was often compared with their ancestors.
  • The Dragonslayer: He's famous for having defeated a marauding dragon in battle.
  • The Ghost: So far, he's only been talked about. He appears in flashbacks starting in Chapter 38.
  • Grand Romantic Gesture: According to Celestia, he asked out his eventual wife while accompanied by an entire squadron as security.
  • Heroic Build: He's described as built like a tank.
  • Living Legend: Everypony considers him one of the greatest members of the Royal Guard who ever lived.
  • Manly Tears: When he came home after defeating the dragon, he cried while thinking about the orphaned Moonbeam and Starlight and how close his own son could have become an orphan.
  • Memetic Badass: In-Universe. Ponies like to joke that he could beat anyone in a fight, even Godzilla Junior.
  • Mentor Archetype: He trained Shining Armor and Blueberry Frost. He would have trained Flash, but he felt he was getting old, so he let Shining Armor do it.
  • My Greatest Failure: He had arrived too late to save Moonbeam and Starlight Glimmer's parents and neighbors from a dragon. He was at least able to save the two.
  • Retired Badass: Retired from the Royal Guard after many years of loyal service.
  • Shell-Shocked Veteran: Is said to have changed after a certain mission, becoming gruff and harsh. He mellowed out after retiring, but doesn't like to talk about what happened.
  • When She Smiles: In a flashback, he smiles when seeing his son playing with and helping Starlight Glimmer and Sunburst. Fancy Pants is affected and remarks he had not seen him smile in a long time.

Prince Blueblood

  • Adaptational Nice Guy: While he's more than a little haughty, he's a pretty nice guy here. Apparently, the Prince Charmless who broke Rarity's heart during "The Best Night Ever" was some jerk impersonating him. Does help explain why he was noticeably better behaved in "Sweet and Elite" if we are to believe that was the real deal.
  • Expecting Someone Taller: Inverted. Blueblood is already a pretty tall stallion, so he wasn't expecting Godzilla Junior's Unicorn form to tower over him.
  • Famous Ancestor: He's a descendant of Princess Platinum, one of Equestria's founders.
  • Honorary Aunt: Not him, but he has one. It's clarified he's not related by blood to the Alicorn Diarchs but with Celestia being close friends with his ancestor Princess Platinum, she's been considered an aunt to her family line.
  • Mythology Gag: Word of God in the series proper states he was supposed to be "Duke Blueblood" with the "Prince" part being put in during production. The Bridge settles this by making him an Archduke, which is roughly equal in rank to a non-ruling prince.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: He knows Godzilla is a hero and promises to do his best to help the Equestrians understand that, pledging to help pay off or bat away any future legal charges lobbied against the good kaiju.
  • Royal Blood: Despite his name, he actually is royalty, since in this verse, he's a descendant of Princess Platinum.
  • Sesquipedalian Loquaciousness: When he speaks, he uses a lot of big words and his sentences seem to go on forever.
  • Try to Fit That on a Business Card: His full title is "Archduke Prince apparent Auric Leon Blueblood of the Platinum Noble Household of Canterlot".

Fancy Pants

  • Distracted by the Sexy: He's left gawking and stumbling over his words when he meets Mothra Lea in her Alicorn disguise.
  • My Greatest Failure: Back when he was a soldier, he arrived too late to save Moonbeam and Starlight Glimmer's parents and neighbors from a dragon. He was at least able to save the two.
  • Oh, Crap!: When Moonbeam Glimmer starts antagonizing Godzilla and he can't get her to shut up.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: Knows Godzilla and the others are heroes and tries to help others see that.
  • Retired Badass: He served as a rank 2 Sergeant medic during the Foal Mountain Dragon conflict. Military service is a tradition in his family line.
  • Shell-Shocked Veteran: He's still traumatized by his greatest failure in the field and hides it by adopting his usual jovial attitude.

Mariner Chi Bi "Chibi" Moon

  • The Apprentice: To her sensei, Godzilla Junior after he decided to train her.
  • Audience Surrogate: Upon hearing from Junior he's been in Luna's chambers and is her bodyguard, she instantly starts shipping them.
  • Ascended Extra: Of sorts. She's appeared before in the IDW comics but wasn't ever name dropped.
  • Badass and Child Duo: With Godzilla Junior. Want to seriously piss off the King of the Monsters, threaten her or make her cry. Not that she's exactly helpless though.
  • Calling Your Attacks: "Pink Sugar Heart Attack!"
  • Cheerful Child: Has her problems now and then, but is very eager and energetic with life.
  • Child Prodigy: Princess Luna notes that even at her young age, she is very talented and powerful in magic. She is a student at the School for Gifted Unicorns after all.
  • Expy: Of Chibi-Usa a.k.a Sailor Chibi Moon from Sailor Moon, with her name being a synonym equivalent and looking like a pony version of her. Her parents are also close approximations of Sailor Moon and Tuxedo Mask.
  • Fangirl: Is one for both Godzilla Junior and Princess Luna, calling the latter "Best Princess" and getting the former's hoofprint autograph.
  • Genki Girl: She can't seem to stop moving and is always excited. Ironically, drinking coffee makes her slow down.
  • Gratuitous Japanese: She's from Neighpon, so she can speak Japanese/Neighponese. When she's around Godzilla Junior they sometimes speak to each other this way.
  • How Do I Shot Web?: She can copy powers, but controlling them is another story. Junior gives her training to control the powers she got from him.
  • Huge Guy, Tiny Girl: Often accompanying her sensei, who is a Goliath of a stallion equal in size to Princess Luna whereas she's an average sized filly. Many times she can fit on and rides on Godzilla's head or shoulder.
  • I Just Want to Be You: She's obsessed with emulating people she thinks are cool like Princess Luna and especially Godzilla Junior.
  • Legacy Character: She's next in line to inherit the powers of the Lunar Senshi Guardian back in Neighpon, a role her mother currently bears.
  • Like a Son to Me: Word of God compared her relationship to Godzilla Junior to that of a father and daughter or uncle and niece, with Chibi seeing him as a father figure since her own family is very far away.
  • Master-Apprentice Chain: Godzilla Senior and King Kong -> Godzilla Junior -> Chibi Moon
  • Motor Mouth: Unless she's slowed down with coffee, she talks extremely fast.
  • Power Copying: Her special talent. Despite the fact that Godzilla's Atomic Breath is not a spell, she manages to fire a similar beam. She later copies his Nuclear Pulse with his tutoring.
  • Power Incontinence: She tends to lose control of her powers when she gets really excited.
  • Recoil Boost: Due to her small mass, she sometimes sent herself flying on attempts to emulate the atomic breath or nuclear pulse. She gave her teacher the idea to try the same...
  • She Is All Grown Up: When Xenilla is shown a vision of the future in "A Kaiju Carol, Yet To Come", he notes that she becomes very tall and beautiful. During the Omake, she pulls off an age swapping spell between herself and Godzilla Junior, showing she'll be quite the looker as a twenty something mare.
  • Shipper on Deck: The moment she found out her sensei and "Best Princess" spent a lot of time together, she got very eager and nosy.
  • Spanner in the Works: Manages to derail Grand King Ghidorah's plan a total of three times: one by helping calm Junior down from being Nightmare Godzilla (foiling Ghidorah's intended battle with Nightmare Godzilla), second by being the reason Xenilla is able to become a kaiju and help his brother (ruining Ghidorah's intended one on one battle with Godzilla), and lastly, and the only one she did unintentionally, her sending herself flying with her recoil from her copy of Junior's atomic breath inspires Junior to literally fly with it, giving him a means to take Ghidorah off guard and impale him. Yes, the tiny adorable filly is a major reason King Ghidorah is defeated.
  • Teleport Spam: When excited she seems to do this.
  • Wave-Motion Gun: She can fire a pink, heart-shaped beam that can punch right through a roof.

     Crystal Empire

Key Ring

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/key_ring.PNG
"Alright, class adjourned for today. We'll continue with Post-Modern enchantments and spell casting when we return. I'll see you all next time tomorrow!"

  • Cool Teacher: A Unicorn professor assigned to teach the Crystal Ponies about the history and advances they missed during their 1000 year stasis. He also loans Xenilla books to help him master his Unicorn abilities and is an expert on magical history. He later helps lead search teams to look for either King Sombra's hiding place or his remains.
  • Dramatic Irony: Seems completely oblivious to the fact Xenilla is a kaiju at first. He does later have some suspicions after seeing Xenilla display Super-Strength, and then catches on after noticing Xenilla's resemblance to Godzilla.
  • Fantastically Indifferent: While the kaiju being revealed is national news, he barely pays it any attention. In his mind, Godzilla seems to be a good guy for saving Canterlot, immediate danger has passed; so he'll just focus on the job he's got to do.
  • Master of Unlocking: His special talent is to open any lock or door. He hints that he could even get through a wall of crystals if he had enough time.
  • Mr. Exposition: Tells Xenilla and Blade Dancer what they need to know about dark magic, Aerenth, and King Sombra.
  • Oh, Crap!: Has this reaction when Blade Dancer shows her the aerenth that was found and he realizes someone must be practicing powerful dark magic.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: Gives the Kaiju the benefit of the doubt after hearing about Godzilla's battle against the Gyaos flock. He also vouches for Xenilla to Princess Cadance, despite the property damage he's caused after he saw Xenilla save Blade Dancer's life.

Flash Sentry

  • Chronic Hero Syndrome: He became a guard because he can't stand seeing others get hurt. Flashbacks show he was like this even as a baby.
  • Dudley Do-Right Stops to Help: He missed a train to Canterlot because he stopped to help a colt find his lost toy and then comfort the CMC and escort them home. He stops to help people all the time.
  • Famous Ancestor: Nearly every member of his family was a legendary soldier, guard, or police officer. He wants to live up to their legacy and worries he's failing at it. In The Sentry Legacy, he is comforted when he sees that each of his ancestors, even the legendary Ardent Sentry and his father, was an ordinary pony just like him.
  • Friend to All Children: Many of his good deeds involve helping fillies and colts in need.
  • My Greatest Failure: He's ashamed of himself because he's only been able to accomplish minor things and he's never been in the right place to help whenever a major disaster happens.
  • Number Two: Seems to serve as Shining Armor's right hand, as he takes orders directly from him and coordinates the rest of the guards.
  • You Are Better Than You Think You Are: Azusa Aoki assures him that the fact he does good to help others instead of for fame and fortune means he's a true hero, and the minor things he does to help matter.

     Mako Island and Aquastria

Queen Amatheia

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/queen_amatheia_concept_by_faith_wolff_d9yr42u.png

  • Death by Despair: She died both from the strain of creating The Shroud and the grief from her two daughters willingly offering themselves as slaves to save Mako.
  • The High Queen: By all accounts she was a just and wise ruler.
  • Large and in Charge: Junior judges that by her statue, she's about the same size as Princess Celestia.
  • Meaningful Name: In Greek myth, Amatheia is the sea nymph responsible for nursing young fish, just like how the queen guided and united the Mermares.
  • Our Founder: She united the Mermares into a single civilization, and she has a life size statue in Mako Island. Her successors just have busts.
  • Posthumous Character: She's been dead for about a thousand years.

Princess Melpomene Sairíne

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/princess_melpomene.PNG

  • Death by Childbirth: She died giving birth to Sonata Dusk.
  • Fallen Princess: Along with her sister, she was exiled.
  • Meaningful Name: In Greek myth, Melpomene is the Muse of Tragedy, and her life is one big tragedy.
  • Missing Mom: She only got to raise Adaigo for a short time before dying bringing Sonata into the world.
  • Posthumous Character: She's been dead for about a thousand years.
  • You Can't Go Home Again: She and her sister Hymnia used themselves as a distraction by leaving Mako's safety and drawing the windigos to them while Amatheia created the Shroud. They were captured and raped. Several months later, they escaped and returned home pregnant. When they tried to return to Mako, the Shroud reacted to the dark magic within their unborn children and prevented them from passing it. Although some tried to help them come home, others feared that their children would be abominations and exiled them.

Princess Hymnia Sairíne

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/princess_hymnia.PNG

  • Deceased Parents Are the Best: For however the Sirens ended up, she seems to have genuinely loved them and cared for them in their infancy because Adagio and to an extent Aria note  have fond memories of her.
  • Fallen Princess: Was the princess of the Mako Island mermares with her mother as the queen. When she died however, she was living out on her own raising three children.
  • Meaningful Name: In Greek myth, Hymnia was the keeper of a sacred song who lost her innocence. Princess Hymnia was raped and later passed her magical love song to her daughter Aria.
  • Missing Mom: Aria's mother and Adagio & Sonata's aunt, she apparently died in a storm when the first two were very young and Sonata was still a toddler.
  • Our Mermaids Are Different: As a mermare, she's a hippocampus that has access to various song based magic and can transform into a land mare temporarily. She also crossbred with an unknown partner to give birth to the siren, Aria Blaze.
  • Posthumous Character: By time we get references to her, she's been dead for about a millennia.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: Disgraced and exiled mermare princess living a thousand years ago was responsible for bringing up the Sirens and teaching them a magical song that induced The Power of Love, but they forgot it due to their young ages. Aria ends up remembering it, eventually helping save the Sirens' and Monster X's life in the conflicts with Enjin and Kaizer Ghidorah. Without Hymnia, Bagan's plan would have worked.

Electra

  • Ascended Extra: Hails from the Under The Sparkling Sea book but has never appeared in the show.
  • Disappeared Dad: Her father died before she was born.
  • Morphic Resonance: Disguised an earth pony mare, her mane is still wet and she has a few scales on her belly and legs.
  • Our Mermaids Are Different: As a mermare, she's a hippocampus that has access to various song based magic and can transform into a land mare temporarily through the magical charm she wears on her neck.
  • Straight Gay: She's one of the only mermares how can speak normally around Junior without trying to flirt with him because she is into females.

Coral

  • Ascended Extra: Hails from the Under The Sparkling Sea book but has never appeared in the show.
  • Our Mermaids Are Different: As a seapony, she's much smaller than a mermare and resembles a large seahorse.

Arrow

  • Ascended Extra: Hails from the Under The Sparkling Sea book but has never appeared in the show.
  • Our Mermaids Are Different: As a seapony, he's much smaller than a mermare and resembles a large seahorse.

Queen Maui

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/queen_maui_by_faith_wolff_dba4vfn.png

  • Damsel in Distress: Was kidnapped by pirates when she was young before she was the queen, being rescued by a young Shining Armor and Blueberry Frost.
  • Eating the Eye Candy: Formalities and him not being perfect didn't stop her from eyeing up Godzilla Junior's equine form.
  • Hidden Elf Village: Averted. While the perpetual storms that surrounded the atoll are there to stay, it's not by her choice and she wants to open Mako up to the world.
  • Large and in Charge: Averted, she's actually a bit smaller than average for the species.
  • Shout-Out: Her name and coloration is a reference to the species, Maui's Dolphin; rather than the Polynesian mythology figure.

    Neighpon

Mariner Serena Moon and Ensemble Shroud

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mariner_and_ensemble.png
"Our daughter... is so grounded!"
  • Expy: They are essencially an older Sailor Moon and Tuxedo Mask.
  • Happily Married: They snark at each other, but clearly get along splendidly.
  • Hero of Another Story: Heroine and hero amongst the other Celestial Guardians, having been at protecting Neighpon from Beryl and the Youma for over a decade.
  • Legacy Character: The 50th bearers of the Lunar and Earthly guardian powers respectively. Their daughter Chibi Moon is set to be her mother's successor.
  • Older and Wiser: They're more mature and calmer than Sailor Moon and Tuxedo Mask were because they've been at this job for years.
  • Sharp-Dressed Man: Ensemble Shroud, who goes into battle with a top hat, cape, and mask.

    Ponies of the Past

Starswirl the Bearded

  • Adaptation Personality Change: Of sorts. His appearance in The Bridge predated his return in the show, meaning the authors drew from the comics and books; in which Starswirl was considerably less crabby, secretive, and abrasive.
  • Mentor Archetype: Trained Clover, Celestia, and Luna in magic.
  • Parental Substitute: Officially adopted and raised Celestia and Luna, though at first he refused to think of himself as such.
  • Posthumous Character: He died of old age roughly a thousand years ago.

Clover the Clever

Princess Platinum

Commander Hurricane

  • Curb Stomp Cushion: He gets some good hits in on Chrysalis, blinds her by throwing sheets over her head, and nearly manages to impale her. She gets pissed off and beats him up so badly Ardent has to take over.
  • Dented Iron: By the time of The Bridge: The Eclipse Times, old age is forcing him to slow down.
  • It's Personal: With Chrysalis, after the destruction of Timbucktu and death of his friend Orion at her hooves.
  • Old Soldier: In The Bridge: The Eclipse Times, he's well past his prime. His skill and attitude are still there, but he's slowing down.
  • Posthumous Character: Having lived about a thousand years ago, he's not around now.
  • So Proud of You: When Ardent Sentry takes over the defense of Trot, he expresses this.

Private, later Corporal Pansy Shy

Chancellor Puddinghead

Smart Cookie

Captain Ardent Sentry

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ardent_sentry_by_faith_wolff_dbg934a.png

  • Due to the Dead: While searching the ruins of Timbucktu with the rest of Hurricane's group, she takes a moment to put a deceased child's teddy bear back in their hooves and close their eyes in this trope.
  • Famous Ancestor: She is Stalwart and Flash Sentry's ancestor, the founder of the Sentry family.
  • Heroic Bastard: Her mother, Speedy Service, was never married and her father is not recorded in history. The Sentry family know who he is, but keep it a secret from Flash until they feel he is ready to know. Her biological father is Commander Hurricane.
  • Meaningful Rename: Her original name was Ardent Service, but she changed to to Ardent Sentry when she joined the military.
  • Posthumous Character: Having lived about a thousand years ago, she's not around now.
  • Strong Family Resemblance: She has similar eyes and mane to her father Commander Hurricane.
  • Take Up My Sword: She puts on Commander Hurricane's armor and lance along with a bottle of fur dye potion to impersonate him during the battle at Trot once he became too injured to keep fighting to both fight Chrysalis herself and keep morale up.

Knight Shroud

  • Only Sane Man: He's a member of the Nights, a group that maintains loyalty to the banished Nightmare Moon/Princess Luna. He seems to be the only member who isn't a crazed fanatic who wants Princess Celestia destroyed because they see her as the ultimate evil. Instead, he has legitimate concerns over whether Celestia is fit to rule and wants to know the full story of Nightmare Moon's banishment so that they can understand the circumstances. He also understands the Changelings are a threat to all and convinces the Nights (who didn't care as they thought it was the sun-loving ponies' problem) to help fight them.
  • Posthumous Character: Having lived about a thousand years ago, he's not around now.

Princess Amore Diamante

Golden Glow

  • Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: Named for her blonde mane, which often shimmered. She was a noble heroine and died in a Heroic Sacrifice.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: Knowingly threw herself into a hopeless battle against Queen Beryl to save her teammates and stop the evil queen's plans.
  • Hopeless Boss Fight: She was the only veteran Guardian on a team full of rookies. Knowing her team didn't stand a chance, she knowingly jumped into the Negaverse to fight Queen Beryl one-on-one to save her team. She knew the moment she enganged that she was going to die, it was just a matter of saving her squad and stopping Beryl's plot first.
  • Legacy Character: She was the 37th bearer of the Lunar Guardian powers from the Silver Crystal. Her successors include the current bearer, Serena and eventually Chibi Moon.
  • Posthumous Character: Queen Beryl killed her three and a half centuries ago. Subverted when Beryl uses her body to make the DD Girl.

     Benevolent Beings

Empress Flurry Heart

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/empress_flurry_heart.PNG
"Thank you, for the sake of things to come. Small changes have large effects, and I can't risk anything bigger."

  • Artificial Limbs: One of her wings is mechanical.
  • Brick Joke: First sign she was raised by Xenilla? She's an "Empress" and not a "Princess".
  • Future Badass: She's a teenage version of Cadance and Shining Armor's unborn daughter, and has been living through an absolute war.
  • Kid from the Future: At least a fifteen years or so given Cadance is only pregnant with her present day counterpart right now.
  • Last of Her Kind: One of only two alicorns left in her timeline and the only natural born one left period given it's heavily implied Princess Luna and Princess Celestia perished.
  • Nephewism: Word of God and later information elaborated that after the death of her timeline's Shining Armor and later Princess Cadance, she was raised by her aunt Princess Twilight Sparkle and Xenilla.
  • Red Baron: Empress of Imperial Remnant, Defender of the Equestrian Realm and Mover of the Sun and Moon.
  • Scars Are Forever: She has scars across her face.
  • Set Right What Once Went Wrong: In her timeline, Bagan and Grogar both devastated the universes, and several characters including her parents were killed, even though it appears that they were stopped from completely destroying them. To prevent this, she travels back in time and temporarily transports Azusa Aoki to Equestria so she can calm down Godzilla Junior and urge him to forgive Xenilla and stop trying to kill him, implying Xenilla is vital to the good guy's victory. His forgiveness and opening up as a result also made the Nightmare Godzilla incident end a lot better than it did in Flurry Heart's timeline, where at best things ended with Starlight dead and a highly destructive battle between Nightmare Godzilla and Grand King Ghidorah that may have ended in Junior's death win lose or draw.
  • Winged Unicorn: She was born an Alicorn.

Harmony (Big Good)

-If I can just nudge them down the right path, who knows?-

  • All-Loving Heroine: Will leap at any opportunity to reform evil characters and can see potential good in practically everyone. She's even willing to offer Bagan a second chance after seeing his past as Reijuu and after she seemingly seals away Bagan, her only emotion is regret that she didn't have the power to restrain and try to help him.
  • Animalistic Abomination: While she's beautiful and benevolent, Word of God stresses she's not a pony anymore than Bagan is a dragon or Grogar is a ram. She just looks like one.
  • Anthropomorphic Personification: She's the sentient mind and soul of the tree of harmony.
  • Big Good: Appears to be so for Equestria proper in a Man Behind the Man fashion, giving both the Equestrians and beyond useful relics of great power to protect themselves. At some point in the past, she fought Grogar and sealed him away in Tambelon.
  • Chain Pain: One of her powers is creating a chain made out of stars that have the power to bind evil; the more evil the prisoner is, the stronger the chain becomes. Unfortunately, since Bagan does not consider himself nor his actions evil, he's able to break it.
  • The Conscience: Acts like this towards Monster X and Irys, speaking to them on several occasions to keep them from doing acts of excessive violence.
  • The Corrupter: Inverted. She fully recognizes the good qualities present in Irys's group of friends, and hopes that she'll be able to influence them into pulling a Heel–Face Turn.
  • Divine Intervention: Sends out a magical flare to blind and kill an attacking gyaos to save Twilight Sparkle. Even Bagan damaging her connection to Equus doesn't stop her: she manages to provide enough of a push to help the souls of Grand King Ghidorah's victims allow Godzilla Sr. to return from the afterlife just long enough to help his sons kill the King of Terror.
  • Female Angel, Male Demon: Contrasting with the two male Big Bad.
  • God Couple: It's hinted that she and Grogar used to be this before they had a falling out, especially since the images and impressions she sends to Wysteria to try and comfort her mix up a bit with Wysteria's memories of her own deceased husband, in comparison to the images of Celestia and Luna mixing with Gloriosa and Timber Spruce, especially since he seems to lack the red eyes he sports later.
  • God Is Flawed: Will readily admit that she isn't all-knowing, and has made mistakes in the past, in contrast to Grogar, who believed that as a deity, he couldn't make mistakes.
  • God Is Good: Gave away chunks of her own power to create the Elements of Harmony, Silver Crystal, and Rainbow Power for mortals to use, is implied to be the progenitor of all good magic; and created Celestia and Luna to act as protectors to the realm.
  • God of Good: Being the goddess of harmony, she's this.
  • God's Hands Are Tied: She would really like to get involved personally, but she can only leave her realm for short periods of time, so she has to resort to speaking to and manipulating others. When she does fight Bagan, she's able to fight him to a stand still and Bagan admits he currently can't kill her. Unfortunately, the battle severely damaged the Tree of Harmony and the Elements of Harmony, preventing her from communicating with the outside world until the items heal...but that's still not enough to prevent her from pitching in to help Godzilla Sr.'s soul return to help his sons destroy Grand King Ghidorah and foil Bagan's curren plan. She seems to have been more active in the past, as she fought and imprisoned Grogar in his own realm of Tambelon.
    • She later admits to Wysteria that part of the reason why she limits herself is a vow not too overly interfere with mortal lives, after an event/mistake involving the Pillars.
  • Go-Karting with Bowser: Her second meeting with Bagan doesn't end in a fight, instead they discuss their motivations and respective stories, and eventually watch the human world together.
  • Godzilla Threshold: Word of God implies if things go very far south, she might reunite all her scattered power to regain her true strength. Given Celestia and Luna are implied to be parts of that, it's unknown what that would do to them.
  • Good Counterpart: To the Big Bad Bagan. Both are one of the most ancient beings in their respective dimensions, are Physical God tier powerhouses, had a hand in inventing or perpetuating magic on Equestria and Terra respectively; and are sealed away in one form or another after losing some of their power. However, she willingly exiled herself inside the Tree of Harmony and gave away her power to form the Elements of Harmony and Rainbow Power. She also is this literally to Grogar.
  • Hearing Voices: Typical method of communication. Her tone is often compared to a wind chime.
  • Killer Rabbit: While larger than any other Equestrian, she still looks like a pony. She's one of the most powerful beings in existence and could curb stomp Grand King Ghidorah at only 30-40 percent of her power. Bagan outright admits that anyone on his team other than himself wouldn't have stood a chance against her, and even he can only manage a tie.
  • Laser Blade: Able to create one hundreds of meters long projected out of her horn.
  • Living MacGuffin: Because she was the one to seal it away, only she or something very similar to her magic can open Tambelon and Grogar's tomb.
  • Mysterious Backer: Doesn't make her presence known much, but does influence Equestria on occasion. Such as sending King Caesar into its past to presumably aid against Tirek.
  • Mythology Gag: She created all four generations of My Little Pony: the first two with Grogar, then the third without, and accidentally made it a Sugar Bowl. Seeing how she went behind his back (abeit accidentally), Grogar was furious and tried to destroy it, causing the two of them to fight and eventually for him to be sealed.
  • The Needs of the Many: She isn't a huge fan of the lethality the Kaiju employ when fighting their enemies. That said, she considers their use of lethal force to be appropriate to the situation given just how ruthless their enemies are and how many innocent lives are at stake.
  • No Man Should Have This Power: Her primary motivation for dividing her powers in the first place, she was afraid that if she ever became corrupted or lost her head, Equestria would have no means of defending itself should she try to destroy them.
  • Physical God: Don't let the fact she can't directly get involved fool you, she's extremely powerful. So much so Bagan is currently incapable of killing her and admits even King Ghidorah wouldn't have been a match for her. Just a portion of her power in the form of The Elements of Harmony have proven enough to overcome every enemy that has threatened Equestria, including Discord.
  • Sizeshifter: According to Word of God, she's capable of this if she wishes as can Grogar.
  • Statuesque Stunner: Judging from the vague outline we see and the feminine voice, she's quite tall and towers over Twilight.
  • Thou Shalt Not Kill: Zigzagged. She wholly dislikes herself or others using lethal force, but she knows it's necessary in extreme cases.
  • Truly Single Parent: She created Celestia and Luna.
