The Family

    The Family in General
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/pataclaun.png
From left to right: Machín, Gonzalete, Monchi, Queca, Wendy and Tony.
  • Anti-Role Model: All of the family to different degrees thanks to their exaggerated flaws.
  • Aw, Look! They Really Do Love Each Other: Despite all their flaws, every member of the household love each other. Machín is the one who really shows this, because despite often mistreating Wendy and Monchi, he eventually comes around, apologizes, and tries to make up to them.
  • Butt-Monkey: Whenever one member of the family screws up, the others are more than ready to beat him up or give him proper punishment. Happens often with Tony or Gonzalete.
  • Character Catchphrase: Each have a few that are closely associated with them:
    • Wendy has "¡Chinches!", ("you jerks!"), whenever the others annoy her.
    • Machín has "¡Ya llegué!" ("I'm home!") or "¡Are, Ajo, Erda!", which are cut versions of common Peruvian insults.
    • Monchi has "¡Horrible oye!" ("That's awful, man!"). Played with it since she doesn't like using her catchphrase that much, and has even stated so.
    • Queca has many. From "From the land of ___ and ___, here comes Queca, your ___", to calling herself "the Peruvian Barbie", to "¡Saca las chelas, Perú!" ("Let's get some beer, Perú!").
    • Tony has "Extraordinary!". He also likes calling Wendy "cosita rica" ("sweet thing").
    • Gonzalete has "Excellent!". Whenever one of the others has screwed up, or something he doesn't like is mentioned, he's also ready to throw "YOU'RE/IT'S...BAD!" while buzzing in his spot.
    • A Share Phrase in "VENGANZA!!" when they decide they need to have revenge on someone.
  • Fartillery: Machín and Queca have several times used their gasses as ammunition or threats against others.
  • Friendly Ghost: The ghost trio can be mischievous and selfish, but they're overall on the side of good. One episode even pointed out that they're too friendly to properly "scare" people as traditional ghosts do, and the execs threatened to boot them off the show if they didn't try to act like ghosts "usually do".
  • Gasshole: Mainly Machín and Queca but due to being messy Big Eaters, but other members of the family have had these jokes being made around them.
  • Hypocrite: All of them tend to do stuff that goes against their character traits. Not even Wendy is exempt from this.
  • Incoming Ham: Machín and Queca's catchphrases herald their loud arrival.
  • Jabba Table Manners: All of the family, sans Wendy, is very messy when eating, to the point they once went too far and made Wendy go on strike and stop cleaning around them.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: Most of them get this role from time to time. Whenever one character comes up with a delusional idea, the others are quickly there to shoot their plans down, observing the flaws in it. The most prominent to do this is either Machín, Tony or Queca.
  • The Nicknamer: They all love giving each other strange or demeaning nicknames (examples like "sobaco de loca" ("madwoman's armpit"), "cara de galleta de soda" ("soda cracker face"), and so on). It's part of the humor of the show.
  • Overly Long Name: All of them have relatively long names, even though they're often frequently referred only by their first name/nickname. It's a joke since in Latin America it's common for people to have very long names and surnames.
  • Quirky Household / Ragtag Bunch of Misfits: The family is composed of six very distinctive characters.
  • Superpower Lottery: The ghosts have a lot of different powers, from Teleportation, summoning or transforming objects and people, can gain super-powers, and can do Magic spells for anything else too complicated. The only reason they aren't Story Breaker Powers is because they often malfunction or simply forget to use them due to Rule of Funny.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: They all go crazy over typical Peruvian dishes.
  • Unsympathetic Comedy Protagonist: Machín, Tony and Queca to different degrees, being the most obviously flawed of the group.
  • Vitriolic Best Buds: Between the ghost trio. The three are very close and often confide in each other; but the moment one screws up, the other two are ready to drag him/her through the mud.

    Wendy Janet
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/wendy_0.png
¡Chinches!
Played by: Wendy Ramos

Machín's wife and the dutiful homemaker of Pataclaun. Though sweet, the other members of the house don't respect her.

  • Beware the Nice Ones: Wendy is often sweet and caring on her good days, but she has an envious, rebellious side that comes out whenever the others degrade and underestimate her. Your biggest mistake will easily be to underestimate her talents and passions.
  • Big Eater: When Wendy was pregnant, Monchi (from inside her womb) made her eat everything on sight, to the point the others had to restrain her, thinking she was possessed. Wendy even ordered 20 roasted chickens for herself, and it wasn't enough to calm her hunger. After Monchi is born, Wendy is always excited whenever there are sweets around, and she even personifies "Gluttony" during Gonzalete's search for the Seven Deadly Sins. Usually, it's very common to see her pigging out on things.
  • Big, Stupid Doodoo-Head: Is really bad at coming with insults, which come up really silly and amuse Tony more than anything.
  • Black Comedy Animal Cruelty: Played With as she frequently beats up her rubber chicken, which she treats as a real one.
  • Book Smart: Despite her ditziness, Wendy takes pride in being a Straight-A student back in school, to the point she considers her most embarrassing memory that she got a 15/20 on Well behavior.
  • Berserk Button: Don't mess up with her house chores or tell her how to do them.
    • Wendy goes along with Queca's whim about participating in a National Cooking Contest despite Queca being a Lethal Chef (Queca wanted them to win, despite Wendy doing all the work), but finally dumps her when Queca wants to make a cooking show without giving her any credit.
    • When Queca orders her to make her some scrambled eggs with a lot of milk and cinnamon arguing that that's how they eat them in France, Wendy finally gives her a "The Reason You Suck" Speech about her being an Old Maid.
    • When Machín and Gonzalete's quest for goodness escalates into a full-on competition on who's the best person in the household, Wendy's rant at both of them is mostly about how they stole all her chores.
  • Cordon Bleugh Chef: While Wendy is normally a good cook (as seen in Supreme Chef below), sometimes Wendy is known to do some bizarre concoctions. Monchi is constantly refusing to eat the baby food she makes, and when she was pregnant Monchi made her eat scrambled eggs with ham, marshmallows, and caramel. This is confirmed to be just on Monchi's commands and not Wendy's Bizarre Taste in Food because in the following season, Wendy gets mad at Queca for making her do savory scrambled eggs with cinnamon.
  • Diet Episode: Has to go on a diet after gaining pregnancy weight. Monchi doesn't like the idea and manipulates her into binge-eating anything in sight.
  • The Ditz: Being very slow, silly, and socially inept are her main traits.
    • Ditzy Genius: ..but has proved many times that she is actually very Book Smart, to the point she has invented a stain remover, can explain complex concepts like Ethics and Morals, and has even become a celebrity in political dissertations.
  • Dumb Is Good: Wendy is not the sharpest knife in the drawer, but she's also the least mean and snarky in the household and is always happy to do all she can to make her family happy, even when all of them take advantage of her generosity.
  • Empty Nest: Is his the hardest by Monchi leaving the house, and even after she gets better there are some jokes and mentions that she resents Monchi having left.
  • Evil Twin: Turns out that she has an evil twin sister Separated at Birth who is the complete opposite to Wendy: Her name is Janet Wendy, is a Gold Digger, rude, lazy, condescending, smug, and a compulsive liar. Wendy doesn't even know about Janet Wendy's existence.
  • Friend to All Living Things: She adores animals and hates seeing them in poor conditions. It's Wendy's compassion that opens up the hearts of the rest of the clauns and allows them to lend a hand in a shelter for abandoned pets.
  • Giver of Lame Names: One of Wendy's quirks is that she is really bad at making up names on the spot, like whenever she tries to give an insult to Tony (like "face... of... a napkin... with all the corners folded"). A glaring example is the fake name of her fictional ex-boyfriend "Toñito de Osambela". Queca had to rework the name by signing a gift card as "Toñito the Insatiable" to get Machín jealous.
  • Karma Houdini: She doesn't get any consequences after ruining Tony's romantic life for her own self gain.
  • Hidden Depths: Wendy may seem initially simple and dumb, but in many episodes, she's displayed the capacity to excel in other talents, like being a police officer or a prodigious writer. She also displays a sharp wit from time to time.
  • Housewife: She was modeled as a parody of housewives in the first place.
  • Love Makes You Dumb: She's very forgiving of Machín's many, many, many flaws.
  • My Beloved Smother: Wendy is this to Monchi, to the point she spends a whole episode sobbing about Monchi leaving the house, and in later episodes commenting that she would attach the new baby to herself 24-7.
  • Naïve Everygirl: She doesn't get the sarcasm or double entendres the other members of the cast usually do.
  • Nice Girl: All things considered she's sweet and doesn't have a manipulative bone in her body.
  • Non-Human Sidekick: Her best friend is a rubber chicken (who in the canon is stated to be alive) who speaks only to her.
  • Not So Above It All: Despite her good nature, Wendy is not completely free of flaws.
    • Drunk with Power: She is more likely to get carried away when having authority.
      • When the family creates the Pataline hotline, Wendy transforms into a Bad Boss and exploits the others, even after they already got enough money to cover the bills, despite her own line being the less productive of all of them.
      • When Wendy becomes a cop, she gets so strict with the law that she sent Queca, Tony, and Machín to jail. It takes Gonzalete to make her understand that the world doesn't work on a Black and White morality, to get them out of jail and reflect more on her abuse of authority.
      • In the "The Newspaper" episode, the family starts with the mission of creating an objective newspaper to fight all the corruption in the press and media. Wendy immediately self-appoints as the chief editor, and everything goes downhill immediately. After the family points out that she went Bad Boss mode, Wendy's response is a frustrated "Again?!"
    • Green-Eyed Monster: Literally and figurately. Not only does she have green eyes, but she also tends to be very jealous and envious.
      • When Queca gets fanmail from Rogelio, an Argentinian millionaire, and Queca dumps Wendy as soon as he becomes her suitor, Wendy doesn't like the situation because she was losing her best friend, and she starts badmouthing Rogelio hoping Queca would leave him, but this doesn't work. Although Rogelio turns out to be another scheme from Tony just to ruin their friendship and Queca was also a bad friend for discarding her as soon as a man appeared, Wendy still tried to ruin Queca's relationship out of jealousy before finding out the truth.
      • When Tony finally moves on from Wendy and gets a good girlfriend, Wendy gets incredibly jealous and tries to seduce him again. She immediately dumps Tony once Machín apologizes to her and Tony has already broken up with his girlfriend, justifying herself that she's a woman and it's completely normal that she wants attention. She doesn't care about Tony's happiness as long as she is the center of his affection.
      • When a nosy neighbor starts flexing about traveling to more places in Peru than her, Wendy tricks all the family into going on vacations to Arequipa. It's because of her wanting to one-up the neighbor that the family gets stuck there without any money.
    • It's All About Me: Despite being a good person, she is pretty selfish, since some of her good actions are mainly to get approval from others or feel good about herself.
      • An example is when she invents software to deliver messages and lesser Machín's workload, not caring that he loved his job despite the physical wear or that all messengers in Peru were laid off. The same happens when Machín becomes a firefighter. Even though Machín likes his job despite the risk, Wendy is so desperate to not lose him that she tells Queca to cast a spell to make him a coward instead of being supportive and being proud of him for taking a heroic job.
      • In the episode "The Good-Will Bag", Wendy is gathering stuff to donate to the poor, and all of them are stuff from the others, like Queca's teeth, Tony's mittens, which were knitted by his grandmother, and more stuff. When Tony asks her why she isn't donating anything, she hesitates and says that she is going to put stuff later. She later steals her friends' stuff back and donates them anyway.
      • Despite being a romantic at heart, she only wants Queca to get married and have a child so she will give her the baby since Queca doesn't want to take care of it. She even tells Machín that she doesn't care if Queca and Gonzalete like each other, she's still getting a baby out of it.
      • She only stops Gonzalete and Machín's "Goodness War" just because they left her without any housework, and she declares that she is the only one who can be good in the house.
      • Her issues with the Utopia created by Gonzalete's wish are that Machín won't want to work again because he is receiving an unemployment check (fair enough), and that she won't be considered a "Saving's Queen" anymore since everyone has enough money to buy all their necessities without a problem.
  • Professional Voice Dissonance: Wendy Janet's normal voice is high-pitched and squeaky, and the funny moments come whenever she does a deeper voice for melodramatic scene, the smug tone for Janet Wendy, or even Wendy Ramos' real voice.
  • Right for the Wrong Reasons: As seen in Green-Eyed Monster, Wendy tried to talk Queca out of her relationship with Rogelio out of jealousy for losing their friendship. Despite later finding out that Rogelio doesn't exist and it's all one of Tony's evil plans, that doesn't make it any less bad that she tried to ruin her friend's romantic life.
  • Sesquipedalian Loquaciousness: When Wendy is in "Intellectual mode", she starts using a lot of technical languages that nobody can't understand.
  • Shoe Size Angst: When telling Nandito their Cinderella version, apparently the others told him that Wendycienta had a big boat for a shoe, to which the camera focuses on Wendy's feet, prompting her to get defensive and cover her feet with the skirt.
    Wendy: It's just a 9!!
  • Speaks Fluent Animal: Her special ability is that she can talk to animals and understand their pain.
  • Supreme Chef: Zigzags with Cordon Bleugh Chef as seen above. Wendy is a good cook, and knows how to make chocolate cake, Machín's lunch and her famous "Rechupete de Verduras", which even won a National Cooking Contest.
  • Tyrant Takes the Helm: Surprisingly power can quickly get to her head, like when she became a Policewoman and started giving tickets to everyone for even small infractions or when the family started their own newspaper and she quickly Jumped Off The Slippery Slope ruling it with an iron fist.
  • Undying Loyalty: Wendy and Queca are best friends, but it's clear that Wendy is the most dedicated to their friendship than Queca, to the point Queca takes advantage of Wendy's goodness to use her as a servant, and Wendy has forgiven Queca for many of her faults, like abandon her for a man, or the many times Queca has called her dumb.

    Machín Alberto
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/machin.png
¡...Are...Ajo...Erda!
Played by: Carlos Alcántara

The head of the house, Machín tends to be sexist and ill-tempered; always expecting to get his orders done. He takes it out often on Wendy, though he comes around at the end of the episodes.

  • Big Eater: Machín gets very angry if Wendy doesn't prepare the entire breakfast for him, which includes sausages, fried eggs, toast, yogurt, coffee, olives, tamales, etc.
  • Everyone Has Standards: Machín values Marriage and faithfulness over everything.
    • His of all people is the only one who doesn't see it as a good thing that Queca and Gonzalete were getting a Marriage of Convenience (Queca only wants to get married so people won't call her a "spinster", Gonzalete only wants to have a wife because for the episode all clerics can get married, and Wendy only wants Queca to get married so she can have her baby).
    • Despite always talking about preferring other women over Wendy, Machín would NEVER cheat on her and even gets upset whenever his father is flirting with others.
  • Drives Like Crazy: His bad driving habits are Played for Laughs parodying the Peruvian lower-class males' way of driving.
    • This gets him directly in trouble in the episode where he gets a job as a minibus driver and finds himself against Wendy, who just became a Policewoman.
  • Forehead of Doom: His big forehead is often mocked especially by Tony.
  • Hair-Trigger Temper: It's very, very easy to get Machín mad at something. His sources of anger are often Wendy, his authority being questioned, his favorite football club losing, being forced to take a bath, not having breakfast, and the ghosts' sassiness.
  • He Cleans Up Nicely: After he is forced to bathe and dress decently by Tony's mother he is seen being followed by a horde of girls thanks to his new looks, with even Queca openly complimenting his new appearance.
  • He-Man Woman Hater: He dismisses often any and all of Wendy's contributions. Thankfully, the show often points out that he's in the wrong for that.
  • Hidden Depths: Machín is often very simple with his life philosophy, but even amidst all his mistreatment of Wendy, even he believes in The Power of Love and is found dismayed once he knows of Queca and Gonzalete's plans of marrying for convenience.
  • Kavorka Man: In spades. Machín is hairy, smelly, with a big forehead and a despicable attitude; yet the women go crazy over him. Wendy is insanely devoted to him, random ladies start hitting on him once he cleans up, and in the final episodes it's implied Queca has an unrequited crush on him.
  • Like Parent, Like Spouse: Though the audience never meets his mother, this applies to his relationship with Mamá Antonieta, Tony's mother, who looks alike A LOT like Wendy, but more abrasive. He is the only one who likes having her around, as he is also a Momma's Boy, and Mamá Antonieta dotes on Machín more than she does on Tony.
  • Lower-Class Lout: And proud of it.
  • Mad Libs Catchphrase: Will sometimes switch the "...erda" part of his catchphrase for "...uta", just to have some variety.
  • Meaningful Name: Machín is a very appropiate name for a parody of a Macho Straw Misogynist.
  • Mister Seahorse: Queca uses a spell to move Wendy's pregnancy to him, to make him change his mind on rejecting his wife's pregnancy. Also, in a later episode he switches bodies temporarily with Wendy, which means he gets pregnant with Monchi again.
  • Momma's Boy: Is the only one who enjoys Tony's mother's visits because of how she dotes on him, and it's implied it's also the case with his actual Mom.
  • New Job Episode: He is usually unemployed but many episodes revolve around him getting a new job for the day.
  • The Pig-Pen: He loves being filthy and rubbing it in others' faces. No one will convince him to take a bath, ever...Except Mamá Antonieta.
  • Sir Swears-a-Lot: All of the family swears ocassionally but Machín speaks almost exclusively in swears.
  • Sleeves Are for Wimps: Played With, he has a wife-beater in first outfit to accentuate his Macho personality, but still wears a colored shirt below it.
  • Straw Misogynist: Played for Laughs as part of his Macho characterization.
  • Used to Be a Sweet Kid: If Nandito, Machincito, and his own transformation into a toddler are any indications. Machín used to be very sweet and needy when he was a baby until he grew up into a rude and dirty macho man.
  • Would Hit a Girl: Machín beats up Wendy every day, to the point Wendy misses his punches whenever he isn't around. He also engages in slapsticks dynamic with Queca.
  • What Does She See in Him?: Even though Machín can be quite caring and funny on his good days, he is normally short-tempered, smelly, and even physically abusive to everyone, especially Wendy, but somehow she always ends up forgiving him, despite the MANY times Machín is given the chance to choose money over family, has actually chosen the first one and later regrets it.
  • Wild Hair: This signifies his unkemptness and aggressiveness.

    Monchi María
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/maxresdefault_97.png
¡Horrible oye!
Played by: Montserrat Brugué

Wendy and Machin's intelligent baby daughter.

  • Adorably Precocious Child: She's only a newborn, yet Monchi can understand complex thoughts and patterns easier than the rest of the cast.
  • Age-Stereotypical Food: Played With, she will often be served regular baby food but she also has shown to prefer adult dishes despite being a baby.
  • The Baby of the Bunch: A literal baby.
  • Back for the Finale: After she leaves the show mid-Season 1, Monchi returns just for the last two episodes of the show (the second one is an unaired episode)
  • Fetus Terrible: To prove a point to Machín, Queca gives Monchi the power to order Wendy to do whatever she wants. On top of making Wendy swallow everything on sight just so she could be comfortable in the womb, Monchi also makes Wendy fall in love with Gonzalete since she didn't like Machín's attitude and preferred Gonzalete (fortunately, Queca threatened her to reverse this). Monchi keeps this power over Wendy until the day she is born, since Queca didn't remember the spell to cancel this.
  • Greed: She is very selfish and doesn't like sharing her stuff, even Gonzalete, with other kids.
    • She represents Greed during Gonzalete's quest to look for the Seven Deadly Sins, getting addicted to money. This greed is a constant trait during the rest of the show.
    • When given the chance between a humble life with her mom, or leaving her in exchange for a lifestyle full of luxury, she doesn't hesitate to pick the latter.
  • It's All About Me: One of the few traits she has from both Machín and Wendy, even when she was still inside the womb. When she ordered Wendy to fall in love with Gonzalete, her reasons are understandable: she didn't like that her father is a violent, hot-headed jackass, and she would have to deal with it along with her mom constantly getting beaten up and yelled at. She only changes her mind because Queca manages to convince her that having a priest for a father would give her a very restrictive childhood and chain her to a lifetime as a nun.
  • Like Father, Like Son: She has a lot more in common with Machín, like the same taste in food, their Street Smart wits, and their selfish nature (although Wendy can also be very selfish when she gives in to her worst moments)
  • Like Father, Unlike Son: Monchi is very different from Wendy. Unlike Wendy, she is very Genre Savvy and Street Smart, showing that she got her wits from Machín.
  • Never Bareheaded: She is always wearing a wooly hat.
  • Only Sane Woman: She's sometimes the voice of reason whenever things get too out of hand in the house.
  • Put on a Bus: Monchi goes to travel the world in the second half of the first season because her actress was moving away to Italy. She comes back for the last two episodes of the second season, right before the series finale.
  • Reality Subtext: Monchi despising her Catchphrase comes from her actress being sick of being associated with that phrase in real life and being repeatedly asked to say it in public places.
  • Shipper on Deck: In the Season 2 Finale, Monchi imagines an ideal outcome where everyone is successful, and Tony and Queca got married and expect a child.
    • She also does this once she's inside Wendy's body, finding Machín incredibly vulgar and forcing her mother to fall in love with another man, the first one she lays eyes on. And lo and behold, Gonzalete enters the room.
  • Spoiled Brat: In addition to her greedy nature, she is also very envious of other children her age.
    • She gets very envious of Wendy paying attention to Machincitonote , Nanditonote  and Angelitonote , and gets angry when Manchincito is given a truck, despite her having a room full of toys. She even denies Gonzalete's stories, asking him to tell the fables in Latin so he can't understand.
    • When Nandito comes over to play, she doesn't want him to go to the zoo with her for no reason, and only agrees because Machín threatened to punish her if she didn't bring her cousin. She eventually comes around and makes amends with her cousin.
  • Transplant: Monchi is a pre-existing character that started in theater plays and TV commercials before appearing in this series, and later appeared in Spiritual Successors of Pataclaun like El Santo Convento.

    Queca
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/160785119_121653183304321_7935302946224959032_n.jpeg
¡Saca las chelas Perú!
Played by: Johanna San Miguel

The only female ghost, Queca claims to hail from the finest families in Peru and adores the United States. Very arrogant and full of herself, Queca often butts heads with the others due to finding them incredibly vulgar. She hates when people call her old.

  • All Women Are Lustful: Queca is the one who is often talking and lusting about hunky men. She is often seen ogling at magazines with male models or about male strippers.
  • Anti-Smother Love Talk: Gives one to Wendy, to convince her to let Monchi leave on a world trip.
  • Auto-Revive: In the episode "The Rat", Queca eats a poisoned cake meant for a rat and drops dead, and this serves Machín, Wendy, and Gonzalete to pick up on Tony's schemes. Fortunately, she is a ghost, so she is fine in the following scene.
  • Berserk Button: DON'T call her old.
  • Big Eater: Queca goes overboard when there's Peruvian food nearby, but she tries to pretend that she is too high class for it.
  • Birds of a Feather: Of a platonic variation with Tony, due to both being parodies of the "pituco" class (the rich white Peruvian class). They're both close due to adoring the high life and romanticizing the United States.
  • Blatant Lies: She likes telling people not only that she is young, but she is so young that she is practically a child. People obviously can tell she is older than she claims.
  • Boomerang Bigot: Is really dismissive towards people of low income, despite she herself coming from such a background, and her not having all that much money anyways.
  • False Teeth Tomfoolery: Wendy takes her teeth and tries to give them to charity, causing Queca to look for them and angrily ask for them back when she realizes Wendy has taken them.
  • Fluffy Fashion Feathers: Wears them during season one.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: Queca is very envious of other people's fortune, to the point she is "Envy" during Gonzalete's search for the Seven Deadly Sins.
  • Hidden Depths: Queca likes to act like she's so high class and above all, but an episode where her great grand niece, Cheila, comes to visit; reveals that she originally came from Cajamarca (a province of Peru), and migrated to the capital in search of a better life. She may not even be truly white, since Cheila (who's of native Peruvian descent) explained that "Aunt Queca" tended to have originally black hair, and probably dyed it as time went by. Queca spends the whole episode rejecting her niece and refuting her words, only to tearfully admit at the end that it's all true. To make up for her earlier behavior, she sends Cheila a parting card with sweet words just before she leaves.
  • Iconic Sequel Outfit: She exchanges the turtleneck gown and boa feathers of the first season for a dress with a low neckline and a large collar.
  • Informed Flaw: Johanna San Miguel is quite svelt, but Queca is often mocked like she is really fat, to the point she is constantly at liposuction clinics and wearing corsets.
  • Lethal Chef: In contrast to Wendy, she is pretty terrible in the kitchen, to the point she can't even boil water.
    • She pretends to be a good chef, and when Wendy drops from the other cooking competitions, Queca's own recipe caused a wave of food poisoning across Peru.
    • When Queca wants to win a Housewife of the Year contest just so she could have a date with actor Salvador del Solar, Tony lies about talking with him and mentions to Queca that he told Salvador about her stuffed turkey. That turkey is said to be stuffed with its own neck among other ingredients. As both start remembering that turkey, Tony recalls that he found inside the second slice a plastic bag, a couple of goose elbows, cat claws, and a pacay shell. The sole memory is enough to revolve around his insides.
    • When they had to donate stuff to charity, Queca wants to give away cookies from her Quinceañera. Wendy forbids her from doing that and explains to the audience that those cookies are so hard that they were used to build both Machu Picchu and the USA Embassy, then Wendy confesses that she has been using them to crush garlic cloves for the last two years, and on top of everything else, not only killed 42 people that night. They killed 60 people that day, and almost kills Machín when he accidentally eats one.
  • Ma'am Shock: She doesn't like to be called "Ma'am" or "Mrs.", and her reactions are not pretty.
  • The Napoleon: She's the shortest member of the cast and also one of the most abrasive, after Machín. It's very easy to get her to fight.
  • Not So Above It All: Repeatedly tries to pretend she is too high class for activities or food she considers below her but it takes only a bit of prodding for the facade to drop humorously.
  • Older Than They Look: Queca wants to pretend that she is young, but it's pretty evident that she has been under the knife quite many times. Machín even found her photo in a History book, more exactly in the Pre-columbian history chapter.
  • Overnight Age-Up: Queca curses a pair of eggs so when Machín eats them he'll turn into an old man in revenge for him making fun of her true age, but Wendy instead makes chocolate cake with them and it ends up transforming Tony and Gonzalete as well. Queca then realizes far too late what happened, in the middle of eating some of that cake.
  • Phoneaholic Teenager: Well, Phoneaholic Older Than They Look that acts like a teenager in any case, but likes to repeatedly occupy the phone for hours to make gossipy calls, which contributes to the high phone bill of the house.
  • Platonic Life-Partners: She doesn't feel attraction for either Tony or Gonzalete.
    • In Tony's case, they are good friends (except when Tony has his Villain Ball moments) and are physically repulsed by each other, to the point they start gagging when they have to kiss.
    • In Gonzalete's case, he is a priest and she is aware that Gonzalete is a pervert. When given the opportunity to have a Marriage of Convenience, they both agree that they are just going to fulfill their roles in front of people and get their own separate ways in private. Fortunately, Machín sees the situation and convinces the priest to dissuade them from making the mistake.
  • Really 700 Years Old: The show implies she's been around since pre-Columbian times!
  • Rich Bitch: She really does think of herself as all that just because she is "blonde". She is neither rich nor blonde.
  • Toxic Friend Influence: She is constantly trying to use Wendy as her personal servant, gives both her and Monchi frivolous advice about how to get wealthy men, tries to encourage Wendy to leave her husband on daily basis (despite being in denial about having the hots for Machín herself) and she even convinced Wendy to spend all of Monchi's college savings on a shopping spree.
  • Tsundere: It turns out that her hostile interactions with Machín were in reality a cover for Queca having the hots for him, which comes up when everyone thinks the End of the World is coming, so she tries to throw herself at him. When the whole misunderstanding is cleared, she starts getting defensive about Machín despite nobody asking about it, and later tries to excuse herself claiming that she said all those things in the heat of the moment.
    • Despite claiming that she doesn't like anything Peruvian (like the food or Lima's Center), she actually likes all of that, but her pride and prejudices restrain her from admitting all that, so she wants others to beg and insist she comes along. Wendy is the only patient enough to indulge.
  • Vitriolic Best Buds: Aside from her friendship with Tony and Gonzalete, she also has this type of relationship with Wendy. The girls are very close and often gossip and have fun together, but Queca is the first to criticize and mock Wendy when something bad happens to her, or Machín degrades her.

    Tony
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tony_04.png
¡Extraordinario!
Played by: Carlos Carlín

The second ghost, and the self-called "villain" of the show. Tony is very sarcastic and thinks very highly of himself. When he's in villain mode, his number one objective is to bed Wendy, by any means possible.

  • Birds of a Feather: Of a platonic variation with Queca, due to both being parodies of the "pituco" class (the rich white Peruvian class). They're both close due to adoring the high life and romanticizing the United States.
  • Card-Carrying Villain: He presents himself as the Villain of the show because it needs one. He even has a signature Evil Laugh.
  • Casanova Wannabe: Tony tries really hard to paint himself the picture of a ladies' man, boasting about his fangirls and often trying to woo Wendy. Yet despite all his claims, we never see him in a successful relationship (save for Lorenita), or catching the fancy of a girl (unless it's unwanted attraction for comedic effect, like when Queca's grandniece, Cheila, started crushing on him).
  • Character Tic: Whenever he feels like posing for the camera, he raises his hands in front of his face in manner of a frame.
  • Confirmed Bachelor: Discusses with Machín his disinterest in ever getting married, preferring to stay a The Casanova Bachelor.
  • Dartboard of Hate: Has one with his mom's photograph on it, which he uses to "work out traumas".
  • Deadpan Snarker: If there's a sarcastic or witty comment at hand, rest assured that 98% of the time it'll come from Tony's mouth.
  • Defrosting Ice King: Is initially dismissive of Monchi and Cheilla but warms up to them overtime.
  • Dreadful Musician: He is a terrible singer, as seen in the episode where Machín and Tony form a duet by the name "The Music Friends", but instead they end up humiliated and nicknamed "The Music Enemies". In Season 2, he starts trying to launch a singing career, but all the family is disgusted with his tone-deaf voice, to the point they use him as a last resort to get rid of their rude neighbors.
  • Embarrassing Middle Name: Tony's full name is Antonio Eusebio Lechuga ("lettuce") Facundo. Naturally, he never goes by his full name; and in the episode, the girls find out the truth, and they bully him mercilessly for "having a vegetable name".
  • Even Evil Has Standards:
    • After Monchi is born, and despite often saying in later episodes that he would get rid of Monchi so he could get Wendy for himself, he gets annoyed with Machín’s open rejection of his own daughter just because of her gender, especially because Tony planned to become her manager if she ever gets famous.
    • When Monchi is leaving the house to travel around the world, Tony apologizes to her for all his fake threats, and he even thinks Machín disowning her is going too far.
    • He initially was distant to Cheilla because of her race and origins, so he treated her like an Abhorrent Admirer, despite admitting that she has good taste for being a fan of him. After he listens to her story about her (and Queca's) humble origins, he starts crying along with the family and gets to appreciate her sincerely, even giving her a few air kisses as a goodbye. He later is seen disapproving of Queca's attitude towards Cheilla after she leaves and admits that she eventually grew on him.
  • For the Evulz: Tony's main motivation for creating conflict is because he is the Card-Carrying Villain of the show. Depending on the plot, he is seen having normal friendly interactions with the rest of the household, with his more antagonistic attitude being reduced to the snarky friend.
  • Groin Attack: Wendy occasionally kicks him in the nards whenever he tries to seduce her with tricks.
Tony: (looking around) Ow... My egg yolks...
  • Goofy Suit: He gets hired to work in a commercial dressed in a Chicken suit.
  • Heroic BSoD: He goes into one whenenever his mom is mentioned, or worse, visits him.
  • Hidden Depths: Tony tries hard to pretend to be The Casanova, always boasting about the millions of fangirls he has all over Peru; but in the episode of "Lorenita Rivasplata", he genuinely falls for the character of Lorenita, respecting her privacy and even announcing to the others he was planning to marry her. Since we never see her (we just hear of her from Queca and Tony), we must imagine she might be a big deal, for Tony to make such a drastic change. Had it not been for Wendy's manipulations, he genuinely would've turned over a new leaf for the episode.
    • Despite saying that he would throw Monchi into a cage full of hungry tigers, or leave her with the crazy old witch, Tony starts crying about Monchi leaving the house.
  • Hollywood Tone-Deaf: His dreadful singing is exaggeratedly awful and comes up in several episodes.
  • I'll Be in My Bunk: Every time Wendy rejects him Tony says he has to go with his other girlfriend. Then takes out his hand.
    Tony: Say hello, Erika.
  • The Nicknamer: They all live giving each other demeaning nicknames but Tony is the champion of these, improvising often on the spot with new names for each character.
  • Prank Call: Likes to repeatedly call people just to prank them, which contributes to the high phone bill of the house.
  • Shoe Size Angst: A common topic when mocking him is both the small size of his hands and shoes.
  • Small Name, Big Ego: Tony's the resident "heartthrob" of the show and he often boasts that he has many fangirls throughout the whole country. However, this is more of an exaggeration because his ego tries to cover many of his obvious flaws (mainly his small hands).
    • Work-wise he fancies himself a Soap Opera main male lead, but the jobs he is offered are often just lowly gigs in random tv ads.
  • Smug Snake: Tony thinks very highly of himself, considering himself talented and handsome. Yet every time he displays his "talents", he's usually mocked for how terrible he is at them.
  • Platonic Life-Partners: He and Queca are good friends (except when Tony has his Villain Ball moments) and are physically repulsed by each other, to the point they start gagging when they have to kiss.
  • The Unfavorite: Says a lot that he is this to his mother, despite being an only child. To make things worse, Mamá Antonieta seems to prefer Machín as a son to dote on in comparison to Tony, who she considers him everything she didn't want in a son.
  • Villainous Crush: He's obsessed with Wendy, but his plans to woo her never come true because she's often uninterested in him.

    Gonzalete
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/maxresdefault_221.png
¡Eres...malo!
Played by: Gonzalo Torres

The third ghost is a Spanish priest. Originally he comes with good intentions, trying to bring ethics and morality into a decaying house, but his own greed and lust eventually overtake him.

  • Annoying Laugh: Has one that is long, loud and full of pauses.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: Gonzalete on his good days is often laidback and easy to talk to, even if a little horny and weird. Though whenever something upsets him, he can easily release his wild side.
  • Character Tic: Whenever he's over-excited, angry, or has a revelation; he starts trembling, buzzing, and squealing in his spot.
  • Cloudcuckoolander: He's certainly a little quirkier than the other two ghosts. Minus the "lusting at women" part, most of his jokes often consist of him reacting oddly to events instead of being sarcastic or insulting the rest of the cast. For example, whenever he gets over-excited he buzzes for no reason in particular; or whenever he's summoned alone by the others, he's usually found dancing and lip-syncing along to a popular disco song.
  • Comical Overreacting: Is prone to this, going on quick comical rants over small slights.
  • Cool Uncle: He's the only ghost who genuinely cares for Monchi's well-being.
  • Cupid's Arrow: An episode has him being given wings and the bow by God, after a night where he ponders about love. Due to not knowing how it works he ends up shooting everything and everyone in the household, resulting in a confusing Love Dodecahedron. But luckily its All Just a Dream.
  • Dirty Old Monk: He really can't keep it down whenever a pretty woman passes him by. Curiously enough, he never flirted with Wendy or Queca, aside from specific circunstantes (manipulated by Monchi and wanting to marry out of convenience).
  • Eccentric Mentor: The other characters often go to Gonzalete for advice, and he gives counsel happily, but his words tend to be a little bizarre or impossible to put into practice.
  • Extreme Libido: A huge part of his character is how he can't keep it down his pants. His room is covered with posters of attractive girls, he ventures often into porn sites, goes to lewd parties, and a few jokes here and there also imply he might like getting whipped.
  • The Fundamentalist: He is the one most upset about Queca and Wendy leaving Catholicism to find a new religion, treating all their attempts like they suddenly became satanists.
  • Gag Nose: Most of Tony's nicknames towards Gonzalete always involve his nose one way or another; like "fat mosquito" or "fat owl" (he also picks on his weight often). At the prospect of the cast doing a Snow White parody, even, he suggested playing the witch on account of the jokes about his large nose. (In real life Gonzalo Torres has a large nose, so they were probably doing jokes based on that aspect).
  • The Gambling Addict: His one true addiction, after lust. In one episode he gets overboard and obsessed with gambling so much that he bets and loses away the house!
  • Hair-Trigger Temper: Like Machín, he also has a short fuse. But Gonzalete's anger is taken less seriously since he jumps and gets mad for absolutely small trivial things that don't matter in the long run, and his tantrums end up as soon as they began.
  • Hidden Depths: Jokes here and there suggest he's into Star Wars.
    • He also has a prideful side that pops up whenever he compares himself to the rest of the family or other priests. From time to time, he can boast about being friends with the Pope.
  • Iconic Sequel Outfit: He changes his simple robe for a more colorful one with yellow stripes for the second season.
  • Intimate Telecommunications: Likes to repeatedly do erotic phone calls, which contributes to the high phone bill of the house.
  • Kavorka Man: In canon he's stated to have a large nose and be overall a little weird. That still doesn't stop him from banging off-screen many ladies, tho. He's probably had even more relationships than the actual Casanova of the show, Tony.
  • Leitmotif: A tune often accompanies him in some of his scenes, that sounds similar to a chorus one would hear at a church.
  • Loves My Alter Ego: The rest of the cast don't think much of him on a day-to-day basis. As Super Gentleman though, the girls go insane fantasizing about him.
  • Motor Mouth: Whenever he gets exasperated he usually goes on small, quick rants about the subject that bothers him. Noticeably, his Spanish accent pops out a lot more whenever he goes on these rants or he gets mad.
  • My Beloved Smother: A quick rant he gives on the Mother's Day episode suggests he had one of these as a mother, always disapproving of his girlfriends or him wanting to go out in the car.
Gonzalete: Moom! Why didn't you let me be a stripper!?
  • Odd Friendship: Seems to have one with Wendy, since she often goes to Gonzalete to confess or ask for advice the most. She also adores how he cares for Monchi and defends him from Machín and Tony's slander. In the episode where Monchi manipulates her mother's feelings to fall in love with another man, and she goes crazy for Gonzalete; he's all too happy to fall for her as well.
  • Only Sane Man: When Monchi isn't around, he often takes this role, delivering messages of peace and unity to the family. It's often done so he can spout religious dogma or to contrast him against Tony or Queca, who are much more shallow and selfish than he is.
  • Platonic Life-Partners: With Queca. He is a priest and she is aware that Gonzalete is a pervert. When given the opportunity to have a Marriage of Convenience, they both agree that they are just going to fulfill their roles in front of people and get their own separate ways in private. Fortunately, Machín sees the situation and convinces the priest to dissuade them from making the mistake.
  • Reasoning with God: Due to being a priest, he often prays to God or even wishing stars so that things could go his way. Usually, they listen to him and even respond to him back, but the results are not what he initially anticipated...
  • Straight Man and Wise Guy: Gonzalete often has this relationship with Tony. By himself, he's wackier, but he often turns more down-to-earth when he has to deal with Tony's delusions of grandeur, depending on the episode. On others Tony has to be the straight man to his wacky self.
  • Superpowers For A Day / Superhero Episode: For an episode, he dons a superhero identity, "Super Gentleman", since he finds the level of crime that occurs in Peru to be overwhelming. The rest of the cast never finds out it's him behind the cape, tho.
  • Token Good Teammate: Of the ghost trio. He has his own moments of jerkassery, to be sure, but he's more honest and well-meaning if we compare him to Tony and Queca.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: He loves berries in general. He only caves into Wendy's seduction attempts when she makes a blackberry cake. And when he gets excited about going for ice cream, he vocally expresses that he wants berry flavor, only to cry about not getting his berry ice cream when the girls refuse to take him.

Supporting Characters

    Don Carlos
Played by: Carlos Alcántara

Machín's father.

  • Abhorrent Admirer: He has an infatuation with Queca, who he chases every time they are in the same house.
  • Dirty Old Man: Despite still being Happily Married to Machín's mother, he is still ogling younger women, including Queca.
  • Forced Transformation: Got turned into a plate of spaghetti by Queca in order to make him stop chasing her around, which then got eaten by an unwitting Tony.
  • Like Father, Like Son: He is exactly like Machín, but older.
  • Straw Misogynist: Like his son, he's a firm believer that women should be the ones taking care of the house chores, and tries to have Wendy go to his house to tidy it up when his wife is absent, instead of doing the chores himself.

    Mamá Antonieta
Played by: Wendy Ramos

Tony's overbearing mother.

  • Amazingly Embarrassing Parents: Without any trace of consideration or shame, Mamá Antonieta tells the audience embarrassing stories about Tony's childhood, to either criticize him or simply humiliate him. This goes from casually calling him ugly, having microscopic hands as a child, recalling Tony wetting his pants in kindergarten, or even comparing him to other people, like declaring Machín is a better son.
  • Apron Matron: A particularly demanding version that expects everyone to bow to her authority.
  • Arranged Marriage: Takes the initiative and forms one for Tony after deciding he has been single enough time, which Tony manages to avoid only by pretending to already be engaged to Queca. Which comes back to bite them in the ass when she almost has them married for real.
  • Control Freak: Nobody talks when she is talking, and nobody does things without her having the last word, exactly like she wants it to be.
  • Dork in a Sweater: Forces everyone in the house to wear them, giving them this look. The first thing Tony does after she leaves the house is get rid of his.
  • Hartman Hips: She has a very noticeable wide skirt.
  • Like Parent, Like Spouse: Discussed by Gonzalete, who points out that she and Wendy are very alike (aside from being played by the same actress), taking into consideration that Tony is constantly trying to seduce Wendy, who is also very motherly and kind of a perfectionist. Tony quickly denies this.
    • This also applies to Machín, who is the only one who likes having her around, as he is also a Momma's Boy, and Mamá Antonieta dotes on Machín more than she does on Tony.
  • Motor Mouth: Goes on fast-paced long winded rants at the drop of a hat, especially about Tony.
  • My Beloved Smother: She is an overbearing woman who is always criticizing her son and expects him to marry as soon as possible. The other characters can't stand her either, except for, oddly enough, Machín.
  • Shipper on Deck: Despite all her flaws, Mamá Antonieta wants Tony to marry and have a stable (after)life, and is happy when she thinks he's engaged to Queca.
    • Shipper with an Agenda: ...but only because she doesn't want her friends to gossip about Tony still being single.
  • Unseen No More: Despite making her official debut in Season 2, she was actually mentioned in Season 1 in the Mother's Day episode, where Tony has to call her through an Ouija board.

    Hertes Malasu
Played by: Carlos Carlín

Tony's cousin and the Bad Luck personified.

  • Blessed with Suck: He is Bad Luck personified, but Hertes doesn't consider this bad, in fact, he accepts that he has a purpose in life of making people feel better about themselves when they look at him.
  • Born Unlucky: Hertes has so much bad luck that he can't even eat food, due to being allergic to almost everything.
  • Doom Magnet: The other clauns are terrified of Hertes because every time he comes over, they all suffer horrible accidents.
  • Idiot Hair: Sports a notable one.
  • The Jinx: His bad luck is shared by touch.
  • Parental Abandonment: Was abandoned by his parents shortly after being born, and it just went downhill from there.
  • The Pollyanna: Despite everything, he is always happy and optimistic.
  • Punny Name: His name is "Hertes Malasu". In Spanish, it reads closely and repeated many times reads "bad luck"- "mala suerte"
  • Stereotypical Nerd: Has this look to a T, complete with Geek Physiques, Nerd Glasses, and Nerdy Nasalness.
  • Superstition Episode: Is introduced during a "Bad Luck Sunday".
  • Uncanny Family Resemblance: He is exactly like Tony with a nerdy look. When Tony disguises himself as a nerd to please his mother, he essentially dresses like Hertes.

    Nandito
Played by: Carlos Alcántara

Machín's nephew from his older brother and Monchi's cousin.

  • Actor-Inspired Element: His Catchphrase was inspired by a young relative of Carlos Alcántara who kept asking the same question to his family at reunions.
  • Ate It All: Wendy serves him the plates of heart-shaped Tacu-tacu rejected by the rest of the family and Nandito ends eating them all, causing him to get ill from overeating.
  • The Baby of the Bunch: He and Monchi are the most recurrent babies in the cast.
  • Bearded Baby: Played for Laughs, like all his relatives in Machín's bloodline he also sports a goatee.
  • Baby Talk: Talks like a toddler most of the time.
  • Catchphrase: "And what's your name?"
  • Cheerful Child: Is always happy and polite, contrasting with his grumpy older male relatives.
  • Constantly Curious: Perpetually asks all kind of questions to the family whenever he is around.
  • Free-Range Children: Despite living in Miami, whenever he is in Peru, he drops in the house by himself, and nobody is seen picking him up. He mentions once that his father is too busy to notice him gone so he just went visit the family by himself.
  • Foil: To both Machín and Monchi. Unlike his cousin, Nandito is gentle, while Monchi can be pretty selfish (a trait she most probably got from her father). It's also implied that Machín used to be exactly like Nandito when he was a toddler, but Machín eventually grew up into a Hot-Blooded macho man.
  • Like Father, Like Son: It's implied that all the members of Machín's bloodline are exactly like him as babies, as seen in the episode when Machín and Wendy regress into babies.
  • Tantrum Throwing: Throws tantrums whenever he is upset, but they also tend to end very suddenly.
  • Uncanny Family Resemblance: He is exactly like all the men of his paternal family, including the goatee.
  • Vocal Dissonance: When Tony mocks him he responds in a deep booming voice for one phrase, complete with Precision F-Strike, before going back like nothing ever happened.

    Maruja
Played by: Katia Condos

An old friend from the cast.

  • Dashing Hispanic: She has an even thicker Spanish accent than Gonzalete, uses a lot of slang from Spain, and everyone has her in high regard as Fun Personified.
  • Hard-Drinking Party Girl: She is always going from one party to another. Wendy and Queca are too enthusiastic about going with her.
  • Ma'am Shock: She punches Tony every time he calls her "Ma'am"
  • More Popular Replacement: Invoked. The household quickly overcomes Tony's absence when she arrives. To give Tony back his place in the cast, Maruja pretends that she doesn't want to be with them anymore, leaving the spot free for Tony.
  • Remember the New Guy?: After Tony leaves for his own show, she joins the group and the rest of the household greets her like they always knew her. This is actually a nod to their original acting troupe.
  • Statuesque Stunner: Maruja is the tallest female in the cast. With high heels, she is as tall as Machín, and she has an even taller hair bun.

    Pipo
Played by: Pipo Gallo

A dog sent by the administration to boost ratings.

  • A Boy and His X: Parodied, as his relationship with Monchi consists mostly on her abusing him on various ways.
  • Butt-Monkey: Monchi does nothing but treat him like a literal punching bag.
  • Gratuitous Animal Sidekick: His purpose for being added was to boost the failing ratings.
  • I Am Not Weasel: Gets confused for a monkey by various members due to his weird appereance.
  • Intellectual Animal: He is the family dog character, but Pipo doesn't fit the claun dynamic for being too smart and serious.
  • One-Shot Character: He only appears in the Ratings episode.
  • Sesquipedalian Loquaciousness: Part of his schtick as an Only Sane Man is the use of complex words, which just makes Machín confused and angry.
  • Straight Man: Even more so than Monchi. He is the only character in the episode to act completely rational, constantly baffled by the family's antics throughout the episode.
  • Team Pet: He is sent by the executives as a strategy to boost the ratings. It doesn't stick.
  • Throw the Dog a Bone: Almost literally, despite the abuse he suffered, he is seen happily singing with the others by the end of the episode he appears in.
