Subpages cleanup: Complete Monster

Go To

During the investigation of recent hollers in the Complete Monster thread, it's become apparent to the staff that an insular, unfriendly culture has evolved in the Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard threads that is causing problems.

Specific issues include:

  • Overzealous hollers on tropers who come into the threads without being familiar with all the rules and traditions of the tropes. And when they are familiar with said rules and traditions, they get accused (with little evidence) of being ban evaders.
  • A few tropers in the thread habitually engage in snotty, impolite mini-modding. There are also regular complaints about excessive, offtopic "socializing" posts.
  • Many many thread regulars barely post/edit anywhere else, making the threads look like they are divorced from the rest of TV Tropes.
  • Following that, there are often complaints about the threads and their regulars violating wiki rules, such as on indexing, crosswicking, example context and example categorization. Some folks are working on resolving the issues, but...
  • Often moderator action against thread regulars leads to a lot of participants suddenly showing up in the moderation threads to protest and speak on their behalf, like a clique.

It is not a super high level problem, but it has been going on for years and we cannot ignore it any longer. There will be a thread in Wiki Talk to discuss the problem; in the meantime there is a moratorium on further Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard example discussion until we have gotten this sorted out.

Update: The new threads have been made and can be found here:

Complete Monster Cleanup Thread

Please see the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List before suggesting any new entries for this trope.

IMPORTANT: To avoid a holler to the mods, please see here for the earliest date a work can be discussed, (usually two weeks from the US release), as well as who's reserved discussion.

When voting, you must specify the candidate(s). No blanket votes (i.e. "[tup] to everyone I missed").

No plagiarism: It's fair to source things, but an effortpost must be your own work and not lifted wholesale from another source.

We don't care what other sites think about a character being a Complete Monster. We judge this trope by our own criteria. Repeatedly attempting to bring up other sites will earn a suspension.

What is the Work

Here you briefly describe the work in question and explain any important setting details. Don't assume that everyone is familiar with the work in question.

Who is the Candidate and What have they Done?

This will be the main portion of the Effort Post. Here you list all of the crimes committed by the candidate. For candidates with longer rap sheets, keep the list to their most important and heinous crimes, we don't need to hear about every time they decide to do something minor or petty.

Do they have any Mitigating Factors or Freudian Excuse?

Here you discuss any potential redeeming or sympathetic features the character has, the character's Freudian Excuse if they have one, as well as any other potential mitigating factors like Offscreen Villainy or questions of moral agency. Try to present these as objectively as possible by presenting any evidence that may support or refute the mitigating factors.

Do they meet the Heinousness Standard?

Here you compare the actions of the Candidate to other character actions in the story in order to determine if they stand out or not. Remember that all characters, not just other villains, contribute to the Heinousness Standard

Final Verdict?

Simply state whether or not you think the character counts or not.

  • Future Diary: Funatsu was only a minor villain, but his actions had led to one of the most horrific events in the series. The second-in-command of the Omekata Cult, when he heard that the cult leaders would disband the cult and have their daughter live a normal life, Funatsu, not wanting to lose power and at the same time gain more power, plotted the parents' deaths by car bomb. He then made the benevolent cult into a Religion of Evil, making himself the de facto leader of the cult while making Tsubaki Kasugano, the daughter of said cult leaders, the figurehead, AKA Sex Slave, by having everyone in the cult gang rape her for the next two years. He also injected her with drugs so she would be unable to defend herself while the cult members were raping her. Funatsu shows no remorse for what he put Tsubaki through, and may have even raped her himself. This all led to Tsubaki losing her sanity, crossing the Despair Event Horizon, and becoming a nihilistic Woobie, Destroyer of Worlds by the time she became the 6th diary holder.
  • Schwarzesmarken: Lieutenant Colonel Heinz Axmann, one of the highest figures in The Stasi of East Berlin, is a selfish, sadistic officer who keeps a hold on Berlin with an iron fist. Any hint of dissent is ruthlessly quelled, with Axman ordering purges of entire families. The hero of the story, Theodor Eberbach, was tortured by the Stasi with his family murdered, except his sister Lise. Axmann has young women, including Lise, raped, tortured and broken to make them into agents who use their bodies to seduce targets and murder them. During Lise's training, Axmann even had her execute civilians, before forcing her to murder the last children with a rock to "save bullets. " Throughout the series, Axman is willing to slaughter whoever he has to in order to keep his grip on Berlin and rule it through the Stasi, caring nothing for the state of the country he wants to rule.
  • Unleashed: "Uncle" Bart is a British mobster with a calm, friendly demeanor, but on the inside is a ruthless mob boss with an anger problem. He took Danny in as a child after murdering his mother because she refused to be with him. Bart then spends many years raising Danny into becoming a mindless, savage killing machine by locking him in a cage, and feeding him dog food, even laughing when Danny expresses human desires. He uses Danny to attack and kill other mobsters if one of Bart's trade distributions goes poorly by unlocking his collar. After months of recovering from a car crash, Bart forces Danny into fighting and killing in an underground fight club for money, threatening him by promising to cut off his testicles if he doesn't participate. When Danny decides not to kill his opponent, Bart decides to kill his opponent himself. When Danny escapes from him again, Bart decides to send his goons after Danny, promising to kill Sam and Victoria because they gave Danny a better life. Near the end, Bart tries to make Danny kill him in order to make Danny the animal he always saw him as.
  • The Moon That Embraces The Sun: Minister Yoon Dae-Hyung is seen murdering a royal prince in his conspiracy with the queen mother. When a fortune teller spies him in the act, Yoon has her tortured and ripped apart by horses when she calls him out. Yoon consolidates his grip on the royal court, marrying his daughter to the new young king and treating her as a pawn, while having the king's true beloved violently tortured and attempting to murder those in his way. Deciding to overthrow the king by manipulating his half-brother, Yoon dismisses his daughter's fall from grace in this plan by coldly stating he can have another. He has the queen mother fatally poisoned and proceeds to try to kill the king and all of his allies, aiming to seize ultimate power in Korea.
  • Spartacus: Blood and Sand:
    • Cossutius, from Vengeance episodes "Empty Hands" and "Libertus", and the prequel season Gods of the Arena, is the worst example of unchecked Roman excess. A Smug Snake aristocrat, he extorts a favor from the House of Batiatus by requesting a “show” from a virgin slave girl. He selects the girl Diona as he knows he can hurt her more and forces her to lose her virginity to a brutish, dirty, filthy gladiator, mocking Diona all the while as an “example“ of how ugliness and beauty co-exist before anally raping her during her ordeal. Cossutius later shows sheer glee at Diona's execution, and at a Roman party is the first to gleefully torture a bound Gladiator for nothing more than entertainment. Furthermore, Cossutius is a serial rapist. He makes it explicitly clear he chooses Diona due to her being a virgin, and makes it quite clear virgins don't exist in his household for that reason. In sexual sadism, Cossutius is well above his fellow Romans.
    • Nemetes, from War of the Damned, proves that not even the rebels are devoid of evil in their ranks. Initially a callous Jerkass of the German slaves, once the rebels have taken a Roman city, Spartacus does his best to ensure that the prisoners are treated with every respect and courtesy. Nemetes kidnaps a Roman Domina and rapes and tortures her for sport, prostituting her to be tortured or brutalized by soldiers he knows will go for it. When Julius Caesar is disguised amongst the rebels, Nemetes demands he show his loyalty by hurting the brutalized girl even more, which horrifies even the hardened Roman and forces him to deliver a Mercy Kill. When Caesar sheds his façade and puts Nemetes at sword point, Nemetes simply tries to bargain to betray Spartacus and turn over all the armies and civilians with them to the Romans if he can escape; an offer Caesar rejects.
  • The Blair Witch Project: From the Alternate Continuity tie-in prequels, which have a Shared Universe with Nocturne, Hecaitomix is the evil spirit behind Elly Kedward and Rustin Parr, starting the Blair Witch legend, and the true source of the curse. Angered that he is no longer worshipped, Hecaitomix spent centuries torturing and killing, children specifically, with the goal of wiping out the human race and ruling over what's left. Hecaitomix disemboweled a child, dubbed the "bleeding child", and kept him alive to feed on before trapping the child in his realm. He also conquered a spiritual realm and turns the spirits there into demons. Hecaitomix has Robin Weaver abducted and attempts to possess her, and in the ritual traps children's souls and keeps mutilated victims alive and conscious. He bargains with a man to cure his blindness and turns him into another demon to do so. After Rustin Parr's killing spree, Hecaitomix possesses Kyle Brody to use him as a new vessel, before moving on to a local pastor and plots to abduct Mary Brown to subject her to the same fate as he did the bleeding child.

Now that both Fallens have been taken care off, anyone want to discuss how we're going to deal with all the Unicrons?

Feed them to Galactus?

Do they take up too much space? Otherwise they could have their own separate folder.

[up][up] Wait, before we do that, what do we wanna do about this franchise-wide Fallen entry?

  • Megatronus Prime is known to all and sundry as The Fallen. If Unicron is the Ultimate Evil, than The Fallen is his Archangel Lucifer, and like his master, exists as a single, dimension-spanning being who exists across all continuities simultaneously. Created by Primus as one of the original Thirteen Primes, The Fallen became obsessed with the notions of entropy and decay, ultimately attempting to murder his creator after betraying him to Unicron. Escaping the prison he was trapped in some seven million years before the 21st century, The Fallen visited the G1 continuity, gathered several Decepticon outcasts and kidnapped four Transformers, through which he tried to channel enough energy to break the Seal of Primus, awaken Unicron, and end all reality, boasting that his victims were but "casualties in the wars of the Gods." Sharing his master's unique nature, and his unquenchable thirst for destruction, The Fallen is precisely the kind of servant that Unicron most needs.
Good grief, Star Wars was SO much simpler. There were only two continuities, and the only 2 characters that were in both were Palpatine and, to a lesser degree, Tarkin.
[down] Gah, don't know how I missed that. Fixed, and thanks.

You misspelled the first "Decepticon" in the Revenge of the Fallen entry.

Now known as Cyber Controller

[up][up]Actually, we can turn that into The Fallen's G1 Transformers entry. Just delete every mention of the other universes he visited.

Cool. Please add here wherever it goes (though honestly, THAT version of The Fallen doesn't sound too bad, relatively).
[nja] Never mind that not sounding too bad; he DID try to destroy everything it seems [lol]

I do want to adjust one part of the write-up, admittedly based on my rudimentary knowledge of Transformers, so I could be wrong: "If Unicron is The Anti-God, than The Fallen is the Satanic Archetype." Thoughts?

What was the final tally for the film version of the Fallen? I thought several people voted him down.

Think you're tough because you made it through Lord of the Rings? Real men survive The Silmarillion.

Because it was recently confirmed that Armada Sideways and Cybertron Sideways, who's more sympathetic, are indeed supposed to be the same guy. This was up in the air for a while, due to Word of God's contradicting itself on whether Cybertron is canon to the other two and because the two Sidewayses have different Japanese names.

I noticed someone listed the Night Slasher from Cobra as a GDV:

https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/GenericDoomsdayVillain

I don't think Night Slasher is the best defined or written villain, he has enough personality to be a CM rather then a GDV.

I really think that trope needs its own clean up effort.

Zoom from the Flash TV show is also listed as a GDV and I think one cannot make that determination till the end of the season, for now he seems more mysterious then anything, but clearly more about will be revealed about him as the season draws to close.
