Per Ask The Tropers, this thread will be used to reduce the number of old, poorly written drafts on the Trope Launch Pad. We don't want to discuss on the drafts themselves because that will bump them and mix them with active proposals.
Sandbox for the project: Trope Launch Pad Discard Project
Sandbox for discarded drafts but viable ideas: Trope Idea Salvage Yard
The first sandbox page above contains drafts proposed in the thread that are still pending and drafts that we've decided to leave alone, either with no action or a bump.
The second sandbox page is for awful drafts but viable ideas. According to moderators, badly written but interesting/tropeworthy drafts should remain on the TLP. Rather than allow low-effort drafts to clog TLP, though, the salvage yard was opened to keep just the ideas behind them, in one place.
On this thread, we will mention which drafts we think are unworkable, add enough bombs, and discard (nuke) them. Discarding requires at least 5 bombs. Among the features of "unworkable" drafts:
- There have been no edits for a very long time, or at all
- The draft is low-effort, containing atrocious spelling and grammar and/or little to no examples, e.g. NEVER saw THAT coming (!), Nut-Chuks
- The draft was seemingly created so the sponsor could complain
- The topic is People Sit on Chairs, Too Rare to Trope, a search query created by mistake, etc. and therefore not tropeworthy
- The topic is already sufficiently covered by one or more tropes or is a duplicate of a better-written TLP draft
- The draft is problematic in other ways, such being closely tied to a page that has been historically problematic, e.g. Fetish Fuel, Complete Monster
- There's no discussion currently occurring in the comments to improve the proposal
If we decide to discard a draft after discussion via this thread, whoever does so must provide the discard reason in the comment section of the draft, for transparency's sake. Those looking at the discards section won't think it was nuked for no reason.
Also, check out the sister project, Trope Adoption Drive, where good drafts put Up for Grabs or abandoned can be grabbed, given a bit more improvement, and launched.

I slightly prefer Introductory Opening Credits. I thought of end credits first, like end credits introducing features to come, like a Sequel Hook.
I think Bug Catcher could work, if there are actual In-Universe examples and something to differentiate it from "Walking Techbane but less". Perhaps remove the tech bit and limit it to games.
Calculator Spelling needs a bit of work but can be a thing. The majority of examples have context.
Better But Blander is going to attract complaints. How do you go about calling a character "uninteresting" without making it sound complainy?
Chuck Cunningham Syndrome except with rooms? Eh. The reasons in para 1 of Chuck Cunningham Syndrome could be applied to places.
Do we have One Time Character? The pet version would certainly be related or a subtrope.
Arrival Amnesia (a.k.a. the doorway effect) is a thing. I forgot if there's a video game version where the game doesn't remind the player what the next objective is, but if there is, the examples cannot be mixed.
"Dissonance" alone cannot be an index, but I feel that anything with two opposite elements is too broad for an index.
If vs How Tension might be an explanation + index. This sort of thing needs a lot of work, though.
Increased Length Sequel: Ayup.
Songs Of Homesickness could be a thing, but I'm not going to be the one to sponsor it.
Heterogeneity Is Evil... uh, it's kind of broad, and the examples in the first comment could go to other tropes. Perhaps it'll work as an index.
I might adopt one of those.
Hey ya'll, sorry I vanished for a bit, long story short, work and homework have been taking my time up and I had to sacrifice the site for the sake of my productivity. But I'm back today, so I'll try and play some catch-up, starting with the posts on this page.

Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure PurenessI think we might have reached a point now that there are not very many obvious drafts to discard... This will be a harder phase, because obviously shepherding a trope and writing a launchable article is lots of work and it takes time and effort. And also the drafts that have potential might lead nowhere, but it still needs some discussion.
It would be awesome if we could get more people to do this cool thing. But I know we're all here volunteers, everybody has their favourite thing to do around here and our time on this planet is a precious, precious thing.
Draft(s) to discard:
-
Tragic Rose: We literally have The Tragic Rose. ETA: Discarded. - And Feed It To You: There is an exact same idea from the same trope sponsor that has some examples and discussion. I think it's very tropeworthy, but this draft can be discarded. Gory Feed Back — this is the other draft; personally I like the title suggestion Forced Autocannibalism. Oof, such a scary trope...
Undecided, I'm leaning to discard though
- Useful Notes: Cellular Phones: Everyone has them now and people are familiar with the way they work. We have Phone Tropes for cell phones used in fiction, though I suppose some info for example on burner phones in real life could be useful for writers...
- Three-child Sitcom — it might be a pattern, but I don't think it's particularly tropeworthy or interesting
- This won't come in handy: I think it's covered by Red Herring. Or it can be a subverted trope to It May Help You on Your Quest, Some Day This Will Come In Handy or other Chekhov's Gun tropes.

Bombed UsefulNotes.Cellular Phones. In addition to the reasons stated, the draft has outdated content and a case of We All Live in America, and the concept isn't interesting or important enough to be worth fixing the problems.
"It's just a show; I should really just relax"Agreed with the cell phones useful notes.
Proposed discards
95% 3/4: chairs
Animeified Episode: Medium-Shift Gag but more specific
Beyond High-Definition and Digital Cinema: High Definition
Binary tunnel: Cyberspace entrance that is covered by Matrix Raining Code
Burning Your Bridges: Take This Job and Shove It, with Crossing the Burnt Bridge if the character tries to return
Chekhov's Hilarious Dialogue: Chekhov's Gag
Doesn't Like Talking About Their Past: They're Called "Personal Issues" for a Reason
Dying Hurts: Immortality Hurts
Enjoy This Unrelated Landscape: complaining about Scenery Porn
Fads Are Bad: Trend Aesop has this covered
Flat Earth Identity: I Reject Your Reality
JustForFun/FromExecutiveProducer: Advertising by Association
Frustration Puzzle: That One Puzzle but with more complaining
Indispensable Evil: You Kill It, You Bought It, Someone Has to Do It, Evil Power Vacuum, Better the Devil You Know, Vetinari Job Security
It was all going to be normal (not): Tempting Fate
Less Famous Sibling: how are we going to determine who's more famous among siblings? Books written? Google hits?
Machiavelli Was Right.: stub covered by Humans Are the Real Monsters
Mentor From Beyond: Spirit Advisor
Pacifist Anime Princess: complaining
Pundit Inverted V: chairs
Random Inquiring Young Mind: Staring Kid, Not Now, Kiddo
Characters/ReceiverOfMany: Receiver of Many
Sing a Song of Sorrow: Grief Song
Slapping Yourself in the Face: Slap Yourself Awake except with both hands
Slidin' Gun: a lost weapon landing a distance away from the owner is not a trope, and Weapon Stomp already covers what may happen after
Stock Alien Sound effect: Theremin explains the retrofuturistic use, can be added to Stock Sound Effect
supporting good guy who is always wrong: The Complainer Is Always Wrong
Unexpected Omission: This is complaining. The "more viable" draft linked in the final comment was nuked, which says something about the quality of this draft
Universal Pet Names: I Was Named "My Name"
Unnecessarily Slow Moving Dipping Mechanism: Bond Villain Stupidity
Worldbuilding Marches On: Continuity Drift
You Win The Company (Because He Didn't): Expose the Villain, Get His Job
Plus these two:
Ranma: Happenstance Gone Right (fanfic)
Heated Storm Yields a Wild Horse's Heart (Fanfic): I'm putting these here because they're created by the same troper who has no edits on the site and neither has been touched for over a week. So something tells me they don't intend to make proper work pages.
Edited by Tabs on Apr 4th 2019 at 4:08:03 AM
The 3/4 page I admit would be a good thing to note, but should not have examples (or at least not straight ones) due to it being too common to list, but not too common to trope.
Contains 20% less fat than the leading value brand!-
It's never lupus: Weirdly, it's about characters who die of cancer. We have The Topic of Cancer. ETA: discarded -
Devil's Advocate: Devil's Advocate (some examples should be moved from the draft to the trope page)
Edited by XFllo on Apr 13th 2019 at 10:15:31 AM
Bombed. (Why is it called lupus of all things? Was it meant as a subversion of the rare disease?)
I believe it's a House reference. It also seems like this draft suggests any character having an illness that isn't cancer is an aversion, which certainly doesn't seem right.
I think they mainly went for "ambiguously cancer" or cancer that is not specified, but it doesn't seem really important or tropeworthy. And I agree, definitely a House reference.

-
Seven Hundred and Ninety: Numbers appear in fiction. I don't even know... No examples, so... - White guys are evil — appearance trope, not very well-defined imo
-
Her First Period: We have First Period Panic. -
Cigarette Skin Burn: We have Cigarette Burns.

Heads up from the ATT on a troper named Sumit 20 making Indian-related TLP drafts with no content.
ᜇᜎᜈ᜔ᜇᜈ᜔|I DO COMMISSIONS|ᜇᜎᜈ᜔ᜇᜈ᜔Survival Dismay TLP which we mothballed, has been discarded.
Disambig Needed: Help with those issues! tvtropes.org/pmwiki/posts.php?discussion=13324299140A37493800&page=24#comment-576Oh, well.
Contains 20% less fat than the leading value brand! We can always restore it, but with 8 bombs... it will most likely never recover.
Welp... Maybe we can salvage the idea by starting fresh, then.
Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure PurenessSorry, new accounts cannot post external links.

It can be. 12 examples is enough for a trope. I think it lacks the creepy/lameness usually present in Coordinated Clothes since it's specifically for a party.
^ Personally, I think couples' costume for a Halloween party are the cute part of the trope, Sickening Sweethearts' style.
So if the costume party examples are migrated to a new trope, all the cute/sweet stuff is in the new trope while the matching-clothes-outside-of-special-occasions remains in Coordinated Clothes, which is where the Lame is.
I don't think that is very accurate. The trope can be played variously in various situations.
Sickening Sweethearts of Heterosexual Life Partners can dress in matching clothes, and it can be presented as cute or lame, depending on the sympathy of writers and audience reaction.
- Montage of the Lost: Cold Turkeys Are Everywhere
- Are you out of your mind? — no new stock phrases, the trope that might be there has a different draft note
- Crime & Cars: abandoned work page
- Crazy Hair, Crazy Mind: comments suggest we have this covered by Messy Hair
- Mouth Mutilation: We have Attack the Mouth (perhaps some examples could be transplanted).
Edited by XFllo on Apr 14th 2019 at 12:50:59 PM
Admittedly, I've seen not nearly enough examples to represent a good sample size. Eh... maybe Coordinated Clothes doesn't need to be split.
The two examples in Crazy Hair, Crazy Mind suggest "hair getting messy as part of Sanity Slippage", which is part of Madness Makeover. Even Twilight is pictured there. We don't need "Madness Makeover except specific to hair".

~Basara-kun has nuked several tropes, some of which we had mothballed or were up for discussion, all without giving a reason why.
Contains 20% less fat than the leading value brand!
Introductory Credits is about ready to launch, but I wanted to get some extra feedback from you guys if there's anything else that can be improved. Also, should I change the name to "Introductory Opening Credits"?
Anyway, here are the rest of my flaggeds:
Bug Catcher: Long description, no examples, only comment says it's probably just downplayed Walking Techbane. I could see it working, but I wouldn't be against bombing it.
Calculator Spelling: Don't we have this one? Only a few examples, and three are zero-context. Definitely feasible, but needs serious work. Hasn't been touched in a year and somehow has 14 hats.
Better But Blander: I could see this one working as well, but it might be a complaint magnet. Short description, two examples, hasn't been touched in a year.
Abandoned Room: A location version of Chuck Cunningham Syndrome would actually be pretty interesting, but the draft falls flat with only four examples. Could definitely use a better name.
One Time Pet: Almost certainly a trope. Only five examples in the draft, but there are a lot more in the comments.
Arrival Amnesia: In a similar situation to One Time Pet, actually. Could certainly be a trope, with only a few examples in the draft but a lot more in the comments.
Index Dissonance It's an index. The comments have a slight discussion about making it cover clashing tropes like Tiny Guy, Huge Girl. Current draft only has tropes with "Dissonance" in the title.
If vs How Tension: Very viable as a trope, but needs work. Comments question if it should have examples.
Increased Length Sequel: I'm surprised we don't have this one. Has seven hats. Just needs a little more love, a fleshed out description, and a better name, and it'd be ready for launch.
Songs Of Homesickness: Almost all the examples are ZCEs and the description is super short. Up for grabs, hasn't been touched since 2018.
Heterogeneity Is Evil: Really long description, no examples in the drafts, a few in the comments.
Vacation Crossover and Clear The Table: I'm only bringing these two up because, like Egotistical Speedster, they seem to have been forgotten about when they were ready to launch, though Clear The Table needs more examples.
