Recap / Total Drama: "Can't Help Falling in Louvre"

Go To

The contestants face their next challenge in Paris's Louvre Museum. Devastated by Cody's attempt to vote her off, Sierra has trouble focusing, despite Cody's desperate attempts to reconcile. DJ seeks a cure for his "animal-mangling curse", dooming Team Victory to yet another loss.

Tropes:

  • All Animals Are Dogs: Noah, who owns a dog and knows how they tick, is able to distract Sasquatchanakwa by pretending to throw a ball for it to fetch. The normally bipedal yeti even gets down on all fours and lets its tongue hang out while keeping its eyes locked on the make-belief ball. Noah demonstrates the motion to his team later when it seems Sasquatchanakwa is coming back for them and this time the trick is also proven to work on Izzy.
  • Almost Kiss: Between Lindsay and Tyler, which is ruined by Chris.
  • Aside Glance: Chef does both when Chris says that he (Chef) made replicas of the priceless statues that they're supposed to assemble.
  • Bait-and-Switch: When Lindsay tells Tyler what she loves about Paris, instead of saying Tyler, she says that she loves shopping, which they won't be doing this episode.
  • Bait-and-Switch Comparison: Heather is one of the judges of the fashion show. Her nemesis Gwen is one of the models and she happens to get dressed by DJ, who wants to lose. As such, he gives her his shirt and cap, which are ridiculously oversized for her, and shoves her on the catwalk. When it's time to judge, Heather seizes the opportunity to make a scathing verdict: "Dry, dull, uninspiring, not a hint of effort with the presentation. But enough about Gwen, the shirt was a 10!"
  • Bears Are Bad News: A chainsaw wielding bear serves as motivation for Team Amazon to get moving.
  • Big "NO!": DJ gets one after he WON.
  • By the Hair: Sierra makes Team Amazon look bad in front of Team CIRRRRH with her bawling and ice cream munching over Cody's rejection. Since Heather can't get her to stop, she instead grabs Sierra's ponytail and drags her away to the then-unoccupied common area.
  • Call-Back: The "motivation" for Team Victory is the baby seal that DJ pushed into an ice crack back in the Yukon.
  • Crocodile Tears: For the entire challenge at the Louvre, Sierra is bawling over the fact that Cody tried to vote her off the previous challenge. Because she's a bother to the entire team, Cody is forced to cheer her up, but nothing he does makes her happy until he puts his foot down. She then reveals in the confessional that all the crying was an act to get Cody to pay attention to her.
  • Didn't Think This Through: DJ decides to swipe a mummified dog from the Louvre and use it to replace the one he destroyed in Egypt. It's not long before he realizes he has no way to actually carry this out and lampshades it.
  • Ejection Seat: Izzy makes her way into the cockpit of the Total Drama Jumbo Jet and starts pushing buttons. This causes the plane to crash into the Seine right next to the Louvre. It's only when it's come to a full stop that Izzy activates the ejection seat, which launches her up into a salto from which she falls down onto the nose of the plane and bumps off of it into the river. She continues laughing even as she sinks.
  • Extreme Omnivore: Owen eats some paintings from the main gallery.
  • Fashion Show: Team Victory are forced to do one in order to figure out who gets eliminated.
  • Flat "What": When Heather and Chris react to DJ choosing Gwen as his model.
    Heather: What?
    Chris: I second that. What?
  • Gravity Is a Harsh Mistress: When Tyler goes on the catwalk, he walks off the end of it and floats above the ground, falling after a few seconds.
  • Groin Attack; It's brief, but a laser hits right through Noah's crotch.
  • Hand Gagging: Chris ends Lindsay's squealing at the prospect of shopping in Paris by pressing her lips together with his fingers.
  • Happy Dance: DJ does a little joyous dance when he thinks he's lost the challenge, singing that now that he's going home, no more animals will get hurt. Too bad for him that he actually wins the challenge.
  • Heartbreak and Ice Cream: After learning that Cody tried to vote her off, Sierra starts the day by eating ice cream and crying while huddled in a Troubled Fetal Position that no one can get her out of until the plane crashes.
  • Impossibly Tacky Clothes: The Tie-breaker between DJ and Lindsay was fashion-design based. Lindsay designed an outfit so bad that even DJ's obvious attempt to sabotage himself (by picking Gwen as his model and sending her with his own shirt) prompted Chris to eliminate her.
  • Lack of Empathy: When Chris hears about what Sierra has been going through since the last episode.
    Chris: Awww, don't care.
  • Lame Pun Reaction: Chris does a lame pun before cutting to commercials.
Chris: (after Noah is shocked by the laser) Looks like things are taking a shocking turn for our contestants. (To Chef) Electrifying isn't it?
    Chef: Ugh...
    Chris: Too cheesy?
    Chef: Maybe.
  • Laser Hallway: The last piece Team Chris Is Really Really Really Really Hot needs to put the Venus de Milo back together is behind a wall of red lasers. Tyler knocks himself out by accidentally running into the regular wall next to it, leaving only Noah as a reliable bet to get through the laser wall. Though he burns his shoe, he gets the job done.
  • Mass "Oh, Crap!": When Alejandro tells everybody that Izzy went towards the cockpit.
  • "No. Just… No" Reaction: Tyler's reaction when given choices of what to wear by Lindsay.
  • Ordered Apology: Team Amazon force Cody into apologising to Sierra after she's reduced to weeping mess.
  • Playing Hard to Get: Sierra reveals she did this as a means of getting Cody to apologise and give her some attention.
  • Pop-Culture Pun Episode Title: The title is a play on the song "Can't Help Falling in Love" by Elvis Presley.
  • Record Needle Scratch: This sound effect comes up when Tyler falls.
  • Shout-Out:
    • A red balloon flies past the Total Drama Jumbo Jet.
    • The concept of the contestants running around in one of the world's largest museums at night, with ferocious creatures stalking them throughout the halls, is a reference to the novel Relic.
    • The opening lines of "Paris in the Springtime" are based on "I Love Paris" from Kiss Me, Kate.
    • The tiebreaker is based on Project Runway.
  • Springtime for Hitler: DJ’s plan to get himself eliminated by half-assing the fashion show presentation ends up failing, since the judge’s love his shirt design.
  • Tears of Joy: DJ cries these when Team Victory lose, intending to simply quit at that point. Only for Chris to intervene.
  • Troubled Fetal Position: After learning that Cody tried to vote her off, Sierra starts the day by eating ice cream and crying while huddled in a fetal position that no one can get her out of until the plane crashes.
  • True Art Is Incomprehensible: In-universe, Tyler consoles Lindsay before her drop of shame by saying the judges of the tiebreaker challenge know nothing about fashion, implying this trope.
  • What Does This Button Do?: Izzy says this when she's in the cockpit with Chef

Noah and Sasquatchanakwa

When the yeti-like Sasquatchanakwa chases down his team, Noah uses an "invisible ball" trick to distract it. It somehow works.

How well does it match the trope?
