The Liberation of Naboris

Link works to free Divine Beast Vah Naboris from the grips of Calamity Ganon.

Tropes:

  • Adaptation Deviation: Urbosa's speech aboard the Divine Beast is pretty much the same as it is in the game, the only change being that she adds that it's not Ganondorf himself she despises, but Calamity Ganon for daring to use her people as its pawn.
  • Adaptation Expansion: Riju's Thunder Helm ritual is just her reaching to the sky and saying a prayer. This time, it's an overt belly-dance that she does that begins to create mystical winds as she says the prayer, and then striking herself with her lightning magic that triggers the lightning shield.
  • Bait-and-Switch Comment: Link immediately thinks that Sudrey, the Gerudo at the outpost where Link is supposed to meet Riju, is going to comment that she didn't expect a voe, but she says she thought the person would be bigger.
  • Barrier Warrior: Riju's primary duty during the fight against Naboris is to shield Link from Naboris's lightning, which is colored purple and stronger than normal lightning.
  • Counter-Attack: Link impales Thunderblight Ganon with the Ending Blow, but unfortunately not on its eye, giving Thunderblight the chance to fatally counter the strike, which Urbosa knew would happen. Mipha is the only reason Link survives.
  • Deconstruction: The nature of Riju's life in a Lady Land means that she rarely ever gets to see voe, and that includes her father. Because of their jobs, Gerudo chiefs at best can only find conception partners to ensure that there is another to inherit the chiefdom.
  • Disappeared Dad: Riju has never met her father because being a chief, and a child no less, means that she primarily stays within Gerudo Town, and this holds true for a lot of chiefs, and thus they rarely get to meet their fathers.
  • Energy Absorption: The Daybreaker Bracelets have this power, and Link takes advantage of it to absorb electrical power from Thunderblight Ganon.
  • Eye Scream: The Ending Blow only worked when Link used it on Thunderblight Ganon's eye.
  • Female Gaze: Link wears his skin-revealing Desert Voe outfit in the presence of young Riju, but she herself is just awestruck to see a man at all.
  • Finishing Move: Twice Link uses the Ending Blow against Thunderblight Ganon. The first time doesn't work, but the second time when Link hits its eye, it does.
  • Glorified Sperm Donor: Gerudo chiefs can't really have romantic relationships. They spend most of their time in a town that forbids men from entering, and so the best they can do is find men to get them pregnant so that they can make sure there's another to become the next chief.
  • Hand Blast: Link finally uses his Daybreaker Bracelets to unleash a beam of electricity against Thunderblight Ganon.
  • Internal Reveal: Link reveals to Riju the truth behind Ganondorf and Calamity Ganon so that she would understand that putting it all on Ganondorf is Misplaced Retribution. Riju thankfully listens to him when he explains.
  • It Only Works Once: Thunderblight Ganon's fatal counter doesn't kill Link thanks to Mipha. Thanks to Cerako, it doesn't get the chance to use it again, as she pins its sword arm down.
  • It's Personal: Since Calamity Ganon adopted the form of a Gerudo, Ganondorf, Urbosa takes this fight personally since its actions have stained her people.
  • Lightning Bruiser: Thunderblight Ganon moves so fast that Link has trouble perceiving it.
  • Not Distracted by the Sexy: Riju is so young that she has no attraction to Link while he's wearing his Desert Voe outfit. Rather, she's just in awe at seeing a man at all for the first time.
  • Power Floats: During Riju's ritual, her hair starts floating, unaffected by gravity.
  • Power Glows: Riju glows a soft green color right before she activates the shield. The Daybreaker Bracelets Link is wearing also glow when they're in range of the Thunder Helm, reacting to its power.
  • Power Tattoo: Link gains his third one that looks like Naboris when Urbosa grants him her power.
  • Running Gag: The Thunder Helm slipping on Riju's face since it's so big on her.
  • Shock and Awe: Everything magic in this chapter is lightning themed. Urbosa and Riju can control lightning through Urbosa's Fury, and then eventually Link can do the same. Thunderblight Ganon's name says it all, and Naboris unleashes the most powerful lightning in the realm.
  • Spectacular Spinning: Link uses the Great Spin in conjunction with Cerako freezing Thunderblight Ganon with Stasis to weaken the creature.
  • Surprisingly Realistic Outcome: The Thunder Helm shields Riju's eyes and head from the sandstorm. She gives Link goggles and a large scarf to protect his face and head from the sandstorm too.
  • Take Up My Sword: Urbosa grants Link the power of lightning, Urbosa's Fury.
