Barriers

Hyrule searches for a way to penetrate the force field around the Great Plateau to finish the Yiga Clan once and for all. The answer turns out to be an incredibly risky one.

Tropes:

  • Adaptation Distillation: The Trial of the Sword from the original game is reimagined here as a trial that will unlock his true Wolf Spirit power instead of unlocking the Master Sword's true splendor.
  • Aw, Look! They Really Do Love Each Other: Purah really cares about Link, to the point where she even cries when he leaves to go through the trial that could risk his life.
  • Bad Boss: Astor sees the Yiga as a drag and useless, which he stupidly expresses in the presence of Sooga and Kolana. Uncertain with Master Kohga, as despite his words about the Yiga, they think he was just expressing his grief in his own weird way.
  • Badass Boast: Purah boasts that she can do anything, referencing how she was able to de-age herself, and so she can create something so powerful that it can rival a Divine Beast. The only flaw in her statement is that she won't be able to do it in time.
  • Chronic Hero Syndrome: Link's heroic nature means he's going to go through with the risky trial. The others, including Purah, know that it's pointless to even try to talk him out of it.
  • Deflector Shields: The nature of the force field around the Great Plateau absorbs energy and redirects it back at whatever is pushed against it.
  • Dwindling Party: The Yiga have been reduced to 5000 surviving members plus a few allies outside of the Great Plateau. Their numbers were apparently much greater before the war.
  • Evil Is One Big, Happy Family: Astor aside, the Yiga all truly love each other as family, and they are mourning and devastated by the loss of their allies and family members.
  • Fountain of Youth: Impa has been de-aged to her 20-year-old body by Purah's perfected anti-aging rune.
  • Hand Wave: The weakness of the barrier around the Great Plateau makes Link nervous that the Daybreaker Bracelets have the same weakness, but Purah says that the bracelets are infused with magic even older than Sheikah technology that overcomes that flaw.
  • Rapid-Fire "No!": Purah yells a Big "NO!" several times when Link declares his intent to go through the trial of combat to fully unlock the Wolf Spirit.
  • The Reveal: Link has not unlocked his true power just yet. He's only had a fraction of it this whole time, and in order to unlock it, he must return to the Korok Forest to go through a trial by combat.
  • Sixth Ranger: Buliara is given Urbosa's Scimitar of the Seven, essentially sharing Riju's membership of the New Champions.
  • Rousing Speech: Sooga delivers one to the Yiga Clan to inspire them that things will be okay.
  • Take Up My Sword: Indirectly. Link has his grandchildren offer the Champions' gear to the various members of the New Champions, including a an additional member.
  • Time Skip: A small one of three days between this chapter and the previous.
