Prepare to Fight the Sandstorm

Link returns the Thunder Helm to Riju, recovers from what happened in the Yiga Clan Hideout, and meets a cute sand seal that really takes a liking to him.

Tropes:

  • Action Mom: Urbosa is established as having had a baby girl 100 years earlier.
  • All Animals Are Dogs: The sand seal Kali cuddles up to Link like a dog when she sees him.
  • A Child Shall Lead Them: Presented in the previous chapter, this chapter deconstructs it. She only became a leader because of the death of her mother, and Link doesn't think that she should have to carry so much adult responsibility while she herself is barely even a teenager yet.
  • Foreshadowing: The pink sand seal Kali takes a particular liking to Link, enough that her master Frelly even notices.
  • He Who Fights Monsters: Link wonders if this is happening to him. Buliara tells him he hasn't.
  • Humans Are the Real Monsters: Link says to Buliara that the monsters of Hyrule are dangerous, but they aren't malicious and torturous as the Yiga Clan is. They didn't make him want to kill them.
  • I Was Quite a Looker: Muava mentions that she used to be quite beautiful in her youth, but that she never found the love of her life, and then had grown too old.
  • Leave No Survivors: Link lived up to what he said, and did not leave a single Yiga Clan member alive.
  • Not So Above It All: Urbosa is the dignified chief of the Gerudo and respected unofficial commander of the Champions, but even she's not above playing a little joke on Zelda with her powers over lightning.
  • One Size Fits All: Just like before, Riju's small size means that things don't fit her the way they usually would a chief. This time, it's the Thunder Helm which slips a little bit on her.
  • Only the Chosen May Wield: Buliara reassures Link that he's still a good person because the Master Sword on his back still lets him wield it, meaning he is still the hero, and the spirit of the sword doesn't believe otherwise.
  • Pay Evil unto Evil: Link slaughtered the murderous Yiga Clan out of vengeance. Buliara says that he did the right thing getting rid of most of them, as they would not have stopped killing and slaughtering innocents.
  • Strong Family Resemblance: Link notices that Riju has the same colored nail polish and lipstick, as well the exact same skin tone, hair color, and eye color as Urbosa, triggering his correct suspicion that she descends from Urbosa.
  • Superpowerful Genetics: Urbosa's daughter, and as it turns out every firstborn Chief's daughter, inherits Urbosa's power over lightning.
  • Throw the Dog a Bone: Muava is a Gerudo who is ignored and neglected by her fellow Gerudo, and spent a long time searching for the love of her life, and Lover's Pond to do so. She failed, and never did, though according to her, she had a happy life and pursued her dreams. Nonetheless, Link offers her a second chance at life, this time with the chance to visit Lover's Pond for real, by suggesting she visit Hateno Village for Purah's anti-aging experiment.
  • Warrior Therapist: Buliara has some skills when it comes to helping survivors of trauma, and she helps Link through his Heroic BSoD when she sees him, and refuses to let him ruminate with that trauma.
