The Champions' Ballad

Link completes the final part of his trial for his own Divine Beast.

Tropes:

  • Actually Pretty Funny: The Champions are all shocked or in horror at being pranked by Daruk, but Urbosa found it hilarious herself.
  • Final-Exam Boss: Monk Maz Koshia is much more a threat than any of the Blights, as he has such a versatile range of powers that Link has to put all his skills and effort into just surviving the fight with him.
  • Finger-Twitching Revival: The first sign that Maz Koshia is very much not like his fellow monks is that his finger twitches, which is enough to frighten Link.
  • Five-Second Foreshadowing: Daruk looks around at the Champion's and squints right before he decides to photobomb everyone pulling them all in.
  • Flash Step: Maz Koshia uses this to keep link from clashing the Daybreaker Bracelets.
  • Foreshadowing: Everyone in the opening notices a large structure in the sky with a giant entity with long Mystical White Hair.
  • Honor Before Reason: Monk Maz Koshia has several moments where he could have pragmatically ended Link, but he instead waits for Link to recover.
  • I Never Told You My Name: Link finally comments to Kass that he called Link by name without Link telling him. Kass admits it was a slip on his part and hoped that Link hadn't noticed it.
  • In Name Only: Link is named the pilot of Eponia, but as he's the hero who will personally fight Ganon, Maz Koshia pilots it in his place.
  • Lock-and-Load Montage: The opening scene to the chapter features the eight central settlements of Hyrule getting ready and preparing for the final fight against Calamity Ganon.
  • Not His Sled: Link doesn't just receive the Master Cycle Zero, he receives a whole new Divine Beast in the form of Divine Beast Vah Eponia.
  • Race Against the Clock: And the clock has nearly reached zero. Zelda's power starts shining again preempting yet another manifestation of Ganon.
  • Strength Equals Worthiness: Once Link finally uses his powers as the Wolf, Monk Maz Koshia decides that Link has truly proven his worth.
  • Uniformity Exception: Maz Koshia is the final Sheikah Monk. All monks are physically unique, but they also all give Link a Spirit Orb-like gift and vanish into light...except for Monk Maz Koshia who stands up and personally fights Link.
  • Verbal Tic: The camerawoman holding the Sheikah Slate to take a picture of the Champions says "Click snap!" revealing that it's Purah who's holding the slate.
  • Where It All Began: This is third/fourth-to-last chapter (Archive of Our Own has 51 chapters), and it primarily takes place at the Great Plateau where Link first awakened.
