Calamity Ganon

Past and present, living and fallen heroes alike come together as one to fight the abomination of Calamity Ganon.

Tropes:

  • Adaptational Badass: Calamity Ganon is much more of a tactical and ferocious fighter than he was in the original game, compensating for the fact that he's facing two warriors imbued with the powers of benevolent Eldritch Abominations. And as Dark Beast Ganon, it starts out completely invulnerable and unable to be harmed until Link weakens it.
  • Adaptation Expansion: Link doesn't fight Calamity Ganon alone. He fights alongside Impa.
  • Amplified Animal Aptitude: Epona knows exactly where to bring Link, as she seems to understand that the glowing sigils around Dark Beast Ganon are its weak points.
  • Avengers Assemble: Paya brings everyone in Hyrule together through the powers of the Sheikah Orb, bringing the New Champions in to help Link and Impa.
  • Badass Boast: The five pilots of the Divine Beasts have their own quotes right before they fire.
    • Revali
Now my moment has finally come. Brace yourself Ganon for the sting of my revenge!
    • Mipha
This will be our final opportunity. We will not fail!
    • Daruk
Let's go, little guy! Now! OPEN UP WIDE GANON!
    • Urbosa
A hundred years in the making. Hold on, Princess. Our moment has arrived!
    • Maz Koshia
The end is finally beginning. Let us bring an end to the eternal curse!
  • Bad Moon Rising: Calamity Ganon's power rises to such a point that he transforms the regular full moon into a perpetual Blood Moon that endlessly summons monsters out of the ground. It does it again as Dark Beast Ganon in a desperate attempt to hold onto its own existence.
  • Beam-O-War: Link wins one with Dark Beast Ganon, and this is the only reason it ends up being able to be damaged.
  • Big Damn Heroes: It wasn't needed, but the New Champions show off how strong they are in their own right by using their powers to help deal with the huge army of monsters.
  • Body Horror: Calamity Ganon's body barely resembles anything human, and is a haphazardly put together construct of Malice, some flesh, and the Sheikah technology it's appropriated from the Divine Beasts it conquered. The only hint of humanity is Ganondorf's skull in there along with red hair.
  • Canon Character All Along: Kali the sand seal turns out to be Epona in sand seal form. Zelda returns her to her true form for the final battle.
  • The Cavalry: Link and Impa have one in all of Hyrule's races and armies brought by Paya. In turn, Calamity Ganon summons the monsters to come help him in Hyrule Castle, but none of them arrive in time before he's vanquished.
  • Death from Above: The Divine Beasts' beams combine above Calamity Ganon and rain down on him.
  • Declaration of Protection: Once again, Mipha comes to save Link's life, and reassures him that she will always protect him.
  • Eldritch Abomination: Calamity Ganon, once Zelda frees the soul of Ganondorf from Demise's curse, gives up on reincarnating into Ganondorf again and adopts its pure enraged form as Dark Beast Ganon. In turn, Link, Impa, and Zelda adopt their own forms as their respective spirits to combat him.
  • Evil Redhead: Calamity Ganon has Ganondorf's red hair, and that's just one hint of its prior human identity.
  • Final-Exam Boss: Just like Maz Koshia, Calamity Ganon combines all prior bosses. In fact, it even does the same thing Fireblight Ganon does, and occupy Link's ally to focus on attacking Link personally.
  • Heel–Face Turn: The monsters of Hyrule no longer are bound by Demise's curse, and they all become much more peaceful. Ganondorf himself is freed from the curse, too, so he's no longer bound to evil.
  • Mechanical Abomination: Calamity Ganon is a monstrous spider-like thing that's made of Malice and Sheikah technology.
  • Oh, Crap!: Calamity Ganon is intimidated by Link and Impa standing up to it.
  • One-Winged Angel: Calamity Ganon turns into Dark Beast Ganon for a final attack on Hyrule and the heroes. Link and Impa adopt their own spirit animal forms in turn, the latter keeping Dark Beast Ganon contained while Link attacks him directly.
  • Rasputinian Death: Calamity Ganon first endures the laser bombardment from five Divine Beasts. Then, Link and Impa put the beatdown on it with vicious magical and physical injuries through their spirits' powers and the Champion's powers, plus their weaponry. Link even impales through its defense, giving Impa the opening to using a much more powerful barrel explosion attack (her special attack from Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity) that finally puts the nail in the original "body" of Calamity Ganon.
  • The Reveal:
    • Kali is Epona reincarnated as a sand seal, and Zelda transforms her back into a horse for the final battle. Zelda also reveals that in one life, she was a bird, meaning that the Crimson Loftwing is Epona's first incarnation.
    • The monsters of Hyrule were afflicted by Demise's curse too. Once Ganondorf is freed from the curse, they turn docile and peaceful, no longer hostile to the people of Hyrule.
  • Wave-Motion Gun: Every Divine Beast fires off a huge laser beam that puts all the Guardian beams to shame.
