Reclaiming the Thunder Helm

To prove his true identity to Lady Riju of the Gerudo, Link infiltrates the Yiga Clan Hideout to retrieve the Gerudo heirloom, and witnesses the most horrific things he's ever seen in his life.

Tropes:

  • Action Girl: Barta stays with Link and fights along with him in the Yiga Clan Hideout.
  • Amazon Brigade: The Gerudo are an all-female brigade of soldiers, and they're effective but exhausted. Nonetheless, they are shown training ferociously.
  • Back from the Dead: This is the first time where Mipha comes to Link's rescue, healing him when a single surviving Blademaster grievously wounds him.
  • A Child Shall Lead Them: Link is shocked to see that the Gerudo chief is a young girl.
  • Faux Affably Evil: Master Kohga appears, and he's just as goofy as he was in the original game, but it doesn't stop him from having ordered the torture and murder of innocent children.
  • Healing Hands: Link tests out Mipha's Grace by healing the wounded and tortured Barta.
  • Leave No Survivors: Link fully intends to kill every single Yiga he finds in the hideout.
  • One Size Fits All: Averted, as Link notes that Riju's not sitting on the chief's throne, but a wooden booster seat. And even better, he notes that there are a few stairs leading up to the throne so that she could reach the booster seat.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Link's typical Nice Guy nature goes out the window when he encounters the Yiga Clan's torture chambers, at which point
  • Precision F-Strike: Link is noticeably more profane in this chapter, especially after seeing the brutality of the Yiga Clan in their torture chambers.
  • Roaring Rampage of Revenge: Link slaughters his way through the hideout determined to kill all Yiga to make them pay for killing Leena and other innocents.
  • Strength Equals Worthiness: Riju and Buliara are willing to believe in and help Link, but he must help them first by retrieving the Thunder Helm from the Yiga Clan's hideout.
  • Too Dumb to Live: Master Kohga isn't all that of an effective fighter, and makes so many tactical mistakes that even the narration's tone means the reader is supposed to see Master Kohga as an absolute imbecile.
  • Torture Cellar: Link discovers that the Yiga have one in their hideout filled with numerous deceased victims, and these include children, and pregnant women.
  • Traumatic Haircut: Barta's tortures included her hair being cut messily. Mipha's Grace fixes that for her.
  • The Unfettered: Link is frightening when he finally lets loose on the Yiga Clan. He slits throats, decapitates, slices them apart, even disintegrates them with the Great Spin, to get the Thunder Helm, although he also does it out of vengeance.
  • Wise Beyond Their Years: Riju is a child, but she's very intelligent when it comes to Link. She recognizes the Sheikah Slate as a precious relic that means Link is not any ordinary traveler.
