Fanfic / Ashikabi of Thunder and Lightning

Go To

Ashikabi of Thunder and Lightning is a Sekirei fanfic by SeerKing where Minato wings Hikari and Hibiki first, thanks to his mom deciding to help prepare him for the plan.

Tropes:

  • Accidental Marriage: Yukari is surprised to learn that she's technically married to Oriha after the Sekirei bonded herself to her to get a power boost big enough to defeat the Higa thugs after running into the Ashikabi. Thankfully, Yukari isn't worried about her being female, though she wasn't planning on settling down with a specific girl until after college, and as she notes below, Oriha is a Clingy Jealous Girl.
  • Achilles' Heel: Kuruse can't teleport her tridents to her position if she doesn't have good visibility.
  • Adaptational Heroism:
    • Some of Minato's Sekirei were winged by antagonistic Ashikabi in canon.
    • A certain Discipline Squad member is slightly less Ax-Crazy in this interpretation.
  • All Women Are Lustful: At least, all female Sekirei who've been Winged are. The very day that Hikari and Hibiki are confirmed to be able to have sex without stunting their growth, they jump into bed with Minato, much to Miya's consternation.
  • Because You Were Nice to Me: A significant number of Minato's Sekirei let him wing them because he didn't try to force things, and even protected them from more forceful Ashikabi like Higa.
  • Brandishment Bluff: Variation when a thoroughly pissed off Minato confronted the foreign operatives mentioned in Bullying a Dragon. He told them that Karasuba of the Disciplinary Squad, a Sekirei who has no reason to care for humanity at all, would arrive for them in one hour. He then told them that either they would tell every detail they knew about their operation, or he would leave them there for Karasuba to find.
  • Bullying a Dragon:
    • Higa sends hitmen after Minato. Not only does the plan fail due to not having proper info on his Sekirei, but Takami is also livid and sics The Discipline Squad on him, with their leader breaking his arm in the process. Not that he learns from it.
    • Some of Higa's thugs chase after Oriha. The only reason they thought that they could get away with it was that her powers were weakened without an Ashikabi, and they got too close to her for her to be able to use her powers effectively.
    • Some foreign operatives try to kidnap Takami, Akitsu, and Kusano. They get their asses handed to them by Minato's Sekirei.
    • Yukari overreacts when she sees Minato Winging Akitsu, and ends up "disciplined" by the twins.
  • Can't Have Sex, Ever: If a Sekirei has penetrative vaginal sex before their power properly matures, they would almost certainly have their power growth stunted (which is part of why Miya is so strict about there being no hanky panky under her roof). Of course, this means that non-penetrative acts aren't an issue...
    • This also doesn’t apply to the male Sekirei.
  • Clingy Jealous Girl: Yukari is worried about Oriha being this if she tries to get into a relationship with another girl (besides other Sekirei of course). Given the fact that she keeps getting cuddled when asleep by her (which she wouldn't mind if Oriha weren't like an octopus in the strength of her grip) and keeps getting her clothes shredded in the process, she may have a point.
  • Corporal Punishment: When Yukari's jealousy gets the better of her, the Lightning Twins warns the former that the next time she attacks Minato in any way, they will get permission from Takami to spank the younger Sahashi. Sure enough.
  • Did You Just Flip Off Cthulhu?: Takami called out Miya on her self-imposed neutrality, asking her if there would ever be a point where she would intervene. This is the Sekirei who is so powerful that Matsu and Uzume, Numbers 2 and 10, couldn't hope to match her even if both of them used their Norito at the exact same time, and yet Takami, a normal human, outright called her out to her face.
  • Dramatically Missing the Point: Minaka finds it rather amazing how someone as intelligent as Higa can be so continually blind to the fact that the power of a Sekirei comes from love, affection, and trust, which keeps his Sekirei from getting much, if any benefit from being winged.
  • The Dreaded: Karasuba. Minato can trick a group of foreign special ops forces into giving up their bosses just by giving them the choice of siccing her on them vs. life in prison. Even Minaka is scared of her to some degree.
    • He's even more scared of Miya.
  • Everyone Has Standards: Minaka may be a self-admitted madman putting a race of aliens into a nearly unwanted tournament for unknown reasons, but even he keeps any promises he makes. And that includes not using the Jinki outside of their intended purposes. Especially after what happened to Takehito.
  • Everyone Is Bi: The female Sekirei are stated to be mostly bisexual, though they tend to prefer men over women, and there are a few straight girls and lesbians in there. And that's not even considering examples like Yukari.
  • Exotic Extended Marriage: Winging a Sekirei being similar to marriage is emphasized a bit more than in canon.
  • Failsafe Failure: Karasuba couldn't respond to Takami's calls because Minaka heard chatter about an attack but got the where wrong, so she was in a Faraday cage the whole time it went down.
  • Flat "What": Karasuba's reaction to learning about the above Failsafe Failure.
  • For Want Of A Nail:
    • The first major deviance is Takami realizing that she can't stop her kids from getting involved with the Plan, and Minato getting his arm broken by his ass of a landlord when Hikari and Hibiki are with her before being released. She then asks the twins to pick him up, and they find that they react to him far more strongly than the twins do Seo, so they end up being winged by him after Takami gives her blessing, Musubi following soon after.
    • Uzume still meets Chiho, but she's transferred to a hospital in America before she can wing her, leading to her choosing Minato instead.
    • More than one Sekirei that were winged at least semi-forcefully in canon are rescued as a result of Minato and/or his Sekirei being in the right place at the right time and end up willingly being winged by Minato.
    • Takami, worried that Yukari's Big Brother Worship was developing into Big Brother Attraction, tried to talk to her about it... and only ended up making her feelings towards him more intense and making her Tsundere for Minato.
    • Oriha runs into Yukari when being chased by Hagi's thugs, and gets winged by her on purpose after realizing that she's a compatible Ashikabi so she can fight them off' This leads to Yukari discovering that Minato is an Ashikabi far earlier than in canon.
    • As a result of Minato rescuing Akitsu and having Takami pick her up to fix her, a group of foreign operatives decide to attack and capture the ice Sekirei, Takami, and Kusano. They fail, however, thanks to Minato's Sekirei.
    • Kusano will have more control over her abilities due to being aged up properly.
  • Freudian Excuse: A certain water Sekirei’s dislike of Ashikabi is a result of horror stories from her handler.
  • Game Changer: Minato becoming Askikabi of the North outright changed the balance of power in the Sekirei Plan. Just by establishing his status, he managed to provide an area of the city where Unwinged Sekirei could be safe from the Ashikabi of the South and East forcibly winging them.
  • Hammerspace: Kuruse can pull her tridents out of nowhere. She does so by teleporting them to her from a vault MBI set up.
  • The Immodest Orgasm: Musubi's reaction made it quite clear that just getting Winged by Minato caused one heck of a reaction.
  • I Need a Freaking Drink: Takami's reaction to the information in learning that Yume is biologically Musubi's mother despite being an embryo when her "daughter" was an egg..
  • I Gave My Word: Minaka has standards, thank you, and keeping his word when he makes a deal is one of them.
  • In Spite of a Nail:
    • Despite the twins choosing to bond with Minato after reacting a lot more strongly to him, Seo still wings a beautiful pair of Sekirei.
    • Kusano still communicated with Minato through his dreams.
    • Shiina still bonds with his canon Ashikabi.
  • Loophole Abuse: As Matsu and Uzume lampshade, penetration is what will stunt a Sekirei's power if done too early, but other kinds of sexual acts are still possible. Miya is annoyed at them figuring this out but doesn't argue the point.
  • Lost Lenore: Takehito Asama for both Miya and Minaka. Minaka even admits that while Takami is intelligent enough for him to find attractive, Takehito was one of the, if not the only, few people he considered his equal.
  • Mama's Baby, Papa's Maybe: Minaka suspects that Minato and Yukari are his kids, but Takami refuses to confirm it in any way to him.
  • Mindlink Mates: Sekirei, as usual. It's noted that Minato is becoming more confident as a result of the bonds he has with his Sekirei, and his Sekirei are calmed in turn, though the number of Sekirei in Minato's flock has resulted in the effects being most prominent in him. One example of this in the Sekirei is how Matsu is less likely to go into a rant.
  • My Beloved Smother: Tsukiumi's Tuner Miyajima genuinely loves her like a daughter, but she has some shades of this. The Sekirei is terrified of even setting a toe out of line when she's around, and she scared Tsukiumi with tales of sex that Takami describes as capable of making a pornstar blush, allegedly to "keep Ashikabi from getting in with her the easy way".
  • Obfuscating Insanity: While demented, Minaka is nowhere near as insane as he acts, citing that people tend to underestimate his awareness if they think he's completely nuts.
  • Older Than They Look: Miyajima, Tsukiumi's Tuner, is in her 70s, but an anti-aging drug that she tested on herself means that she looks younger than Takami and some of the Sekirei.
  • Parental Neglect: Minaka showed no interest in Minato or Yukari until they started school. By then Takami had forbidden him to see them and didn't even confirm to him that they were his children, and still refuses to do so, though that might be out of bitterness towards the Plan keeping her away from them herself.
  • Plot-Relevant Age-Up: Kusano is aged up from a preteen to about the same age as the other Sekirei.
  • Polyamory: With the original series having this format and the author, is this a surprise?
  • Rage Breaking Point: Uzume snaps at Miya after the latter scolds her with the dreaded Hannya mask for a dirty joke, telling Miya that even if she doesn't react to Minato, she's still going to ask to move in as it's better than dealing with someone trying to force her morals and opinions on others.
  • Raised by Grandparents: Yukari and Minato.
  • Screw the Rules, They Broke Them First!: Tsukiumi tries to attack Minato the first time they meet, leading to both of Minato's present Sekirei attacking her. When Tsukiumi insists that matches are supposed to be one on one, they remind her that attacking an Ashikabi is also forbidden.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Haruka and Kuno are both planning to get out of the Sekirei Plan by escaping from the New Capital.
  • Shout-Out: Minaka apparently engineered exploding lemons.
    • He also references Dumbledore's line about how the consequences of one's mistakes increase with how smart they are.
  • Shut Up, Kirk!: When Miya criticizes Takami for getting her son involved in the Sekirei Game, Takami responds that she needs a way to counter the Ashikabi of the South and East as well as hopefully stop Minaka. While Miya could easily do so, her refusal to take up her sword again has forced Takami to find an alternate solution.
  • Small Name, Big Ego: Amebane. He believes that as the Thirteenth Sekirei, he is on the higher end of the power spectrum, but there are two problems with that.
    • To start, unless a Sekirei is a Single Number, their number says absolutely nothing about their true strength.
    • Second and more importantly, the nature of the bond between Sekirei and Ashikabi plays a major role in how strong they are. With Amebane's extremely misogynistic attitude and his Ashikabi's masochistic nature being an extremely unhealthy and self-destructive relationship, not even opening with his Norito saw him hopelessly outclassed against Shinna's Death Garden attack.
  • Smug Snake: Even after the Discipline Squad is sicced on him, Higa still apparently thinks that his victory is all but guaranteed.
  • Sneeze Cut: After noticing a look in his mother's eyes after it turned out poor Kuno's Power Incontinence issues was due to someone going beyond the call of fairness, Minato offers a silent prayer to any soul stupid enough to royally piss her off like that. Coincidentally, several people in the city sneeze at exactly that moment.
  • So Proud of You: Minaka feels this way about Minato gathering so many powerful Sekirei.
  • Supernaturally Young Parent: There are several Sekirei that are siblings or cousins genetically, but Yume and Musubi's genetic relationship is best compared to a mother and her daughter, respectively. Takami has no idea how this is possible since the former was a frozen embryo and the latter an egg when the ship was found. She drank herself unconscious when she found this out and makes her desire more just by thinking about it, and it's likely why Yume could transplant her Tama into Musubi. Her best guess is that either the Sekirei are clones of ones that already existed, or were somehow regressed into a fetal state from an outside force.
  • Surveillance as the Plot Demands: Matsu has hacked most of the city in order to spot any threats to Minato before they can actually hurt him. This has saved his ass more than once.
  • Too Dumb to Live: Yukari attacks Minato in a fit of jealousy immediately after he wings Akitsu, who knocks her out with a wall of ice. After Yukari wakes up, Takami informs her she's astoundingly lucky Akitsu didn't kill her accidentally.
  • Took a Level in Badass: Minato, in part due to the support of (and the subconscious influence of) his Sekirei, starts becoming more confident and better under pressure, even passing his college exams.
  • Top Wife: Since the twins were winged by Minato first, they're technically considered to both be his First Sekirei.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: Miya's prudishness of not allowing Sekirei to have any form of sexual contact in her inn turns out to be this: if a female Sekirei has sex before her wings reach a certain size, it permanently halts her power growth before she can reach her full potential.
  • What the Hell, Hero?:
    • Uzume snaps after Miya scolds her for making a dirty joke. Uzume accuses Miya of bullying the other Sekirei into following her own "prudish lifestyle." While Miya is shown to have a point (sex, before their power matures, stops a Sekirei from growing stronger), Uzume is still upset that Miya bans all forms of sexual contact regardless of how chaste it is (even participating in crass/off-color humor is against the rules) and refuses to share any information with the others even if it'd be useful.
    • Takami calls Miya out for just standing by and letting Minaka go ahead with making the Sekirei and Ashikabi fight.
  • When She Smiles: Miya's smile, when she heard that Takami had managed to cure Akitsu, was something to behold.
  • Wild Card: What Takami hopes Minato will be to Minaka and the S-Plan.
