I agree with its removal for the reasons posted in the previous discussion.
Edited by Josef5678Wait, Daikatana was omitted, despite having most, if not all, properties of being an horrible game. But Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric, who's considered more mediocre (and So Bad It's Good without the update) than outright horrible, is here???
Edited by Asue Hide / Show RepliesFollowing the edit history, this was not omitted, but yes removed in 6 Jun 14. Following the edit reason of the removal, " While these are all valid complaints, they still don't justify the game being this trope. In spite of these flaws, most critics felt it was for the most part a So Okay Its Average game. And some of these issues, though perhaps unforgivable now, were pretty common in first person shooters fourteen/fifteen years ago."
Edited by MagBasOn the topic of Sonic Boom, I concur that it should be removed. After patches, it went from Horrible to So Okay, It's Average at best and worst by critics, Cygnus Destroyer being one critic on YouTube.
Edited by Josef5678Daikatana is still a shoddy game (and some games here got average reviews, yet are here). Especially the N64 version, who IS horrible by any means.
Can CrazyBus be added? And if so, would it fall under a Fourth Generation game (being made for the Genesis) or Sixth Generation (being made in 2004)?
Horrible Russian Videogames. There are some Russian videogames, that wasn't very known in USA, but utterly hated in Russia.I just want to list them in chronological order.
1986: Konyock Gorbunok has awful collision detection, a bunch of beginner traps and fighting the dragon on last levels is just a matter of pure luck.Keep in mind, this is an arcade game, so imagine how many money people lost not because it's their fault, but because it game's. Link to a review: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jAmUmK7VfM8
1992: The Crow Or How Ivan The Idiot Searched For The Treasure.Let's see: awful barely controllable fighting sections, ugly and boring driving sections and unplayable platforming sections. Link to a review: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fPBSYcN1kX8
1995: Dungeons Of Kremlin is a bad Wolfenstine clone with bland and boring levels, no mellee attacks and only 4 enemy tipes. There is the fact, that laser pistol and a shotgun use the same ammo. But the most annoying part is the anti-power ups. They are the pick ups that drain your health and they are all over the place. Link to a review: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rCkkCbP7rMg
2003: Bumer Destroyed Towers. Mix of awful racing game and awful fps game.Driving stages is either a race where you opponents just stuck most of the times or driving in almost straight line for 10 minutes. FPS are even wors in a way that even hard to describe. link to a review: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=49mX3K73zNo
2004: Metron and The Executioner. Both are horrible fmv quests made by teenagers, that somehow got released in stores on a discs. Link to Metron review: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R0ynF77npFg Link to The Executioner review: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iBJnesKvTuw
2006: Battle For Motherland might be the worst WW 2 game ever made. It's an fps, where you fight infinitely respawning enemies for points. You can't pick up ammo, so if you run out of it you need to die and respawn. The autors's idea of shadows is black stripes. They even got the uniform wrong, it looks like WW 1 russian army fighting against modern german army. Link to a review: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=myJtTfQsgng
2008: Mario 3 Around The World. Awful bootleg Genesis Mario game with terrible physics and awkward controls.Mario screams in agony when he dies and game over screens is pure nightmare. There is a continuation of the game called Mario 4 The Space Odyssey, but that one is more in So bad it's good category. Vinesauce Plays this thing here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ejNqrU94QtQ
2015: Despair. This is everyting wrong with modern horror games combined into one.The game is just 15 minutes of walking in a dark labyrinth, where you encounter the ghost only once. Darklordjadow reviewed it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5XH53jDXd4U
2015: Red Lake is a broken glitchy fps. If you die you respawn with amounth of ammo that you died with, sometimes making game unbeatable.Sometimes crucial to progression items didn't spawn. Sometimes you have no idea whree to go.And the final level bad in so many ways, that i can't even describe it. Link to a review: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6LKhXUp-6Fw
What do you think of this crap guys, maybe some of them deserve to be here?
Edited by GrandlewonAbout how much time needs to pass before adding a game? Because Sonic Boom is terrible.
Hide / Show RepliesExactly, it's a game that even Sonic fans despise and is almost universally considered worse than Sonic 06 (which has its fans but is also a mess).
Should we add both Animal Crossing; Ambio Festival and Garflied Kart on here?
Hide / Show RepliesIf we did, we should probably spell them correctly.
But from what I can tell, ACAF is just considered "meh." Not sure about Garfield Kart. Seems like standard Shovel Ware.
Found a Youtube Channel with political stances you want to share? Hop on over to this page and add them.I want to challenge Shaq Fu. While the game does have "mediocre-at-best" controlsnote , it does have several redeeming qualities.
The presentation is quite polished, with quite pretty-looking environments and a fairly good soundtrack. While the sprites are somewhat too small, the animation are, if I dare say, quite ahead of their time. There's even a few nice touches, like character portraits changing expression depending of how much damage they took.
The lore is also interesting, if you look past, well, Shaq being here. I agree that the main story is completely nonsensicalnote , but the chaqracters and their backstories are actually pretty cool. A mind-controlled catgirl from outer-space ? A demon created from an evil sorcerer's shadow ? Admit it, that's kinda cool. Besides, aside from story mode, each individual character can get their own ending in 1-player versus modenote . Mephis is Voodoo's father. I'm saying, because I'm probably the only person in the world to know that.
I'll end by mentioning that this game did have some good ideas. While it's primarily ripping off Street Fighter II fighting systemnote , thigns like the FURY bar, while poorly implemented, are interesting ideas in themselves.
Is Shaq Fu a good game ? No. Is it a bad game ? Definitely. Is it one of the worst games of all time and deserving to be qualified as "Horrible" ? My vote is on "Heck no".
That was my case for Shaq Fu not deserving its place on the list. You're free to discuss, and if enough people agree with me, I suppose a removal would be in order.
Edited by Yugnat Hide / Show RepliesIt also seems to have a cult following, even if it's an ironic one. So no, Shaq Fu does not belong here. As is often said, "There's a market for any type of deviancy. It has to fail to appeal to even that niche to be considered So Bad, It's Horrible."
I'm going to ask again, does Big Rigs Over The Road Racing really qualify. Yes I know it has gotten backlash and is an Obvious Beta. The problem is the game has a fairly large fanbase who consider the game So Bad, It's Good (in fact it's the image for the video game section of that trope) and even the Angry Video Game Nerd considers it mildly enjoyable (he usually hates/dislikes games of that nature) in his linked review (he has stated that Desert Bus is an even worse driving game). If a work has an ironic but highly visible fanbase, is it disqualified?
Hide / Show RepliesWell, if Sonic the Hedgehog (2006) doesn't qualify for SBIH status, then neither does Big Rigs. Remember, there's a market for all types of deviancy, no matter how small. It has to fail to appeal to anyone to qualify.
Sonic '06 doesn't even begin to compare to the sheer ineptitude that is Big Rigs. At least that game is somewhat playable and has somewhat functional gameplay and goals. The closest thing Big Rigs has to a goal is to race to the finish, which is rendered moot by the fact that it's literally impossible to lose. Not to mention that the game's cover straight up lies about its content, painting a very different experience than what's actually in the game.
Also, the So Bad, It's Good page itself states that works can potentially be listed as both it and So Bad Its Horrible (Big Rigs being among the listed examples) and the market for all types of deviancy argument is only valid if the appeal is intentional and/or there are people who would come to its defense if listed (The reason E.T. for Atari isn't listed). I don't think anybody is going to try and defend Big Rigs.
Edit: bad grammar is bad
Edited by DDRMASTERMDoes Shadow War Of Succession truly belong on this list? Yes, it's a very poorly-made game, but it was apparently successful enough for the developers to profit from it. Also, judging from what I've seen from the Retsupurae riffs and other videos, the game strikes me as more of a So Bad, It's Good game than something completely worthless, which is what this page is reserved for.
Motion to strike the Vita Asphalt game from the page, at least not without a substantial rewrite. A glance on MetaCritic and GameRankings (OpenCritic aggregates don't go back that far) show a plurality of "average/mixed" reviews rather than largely horrible ones, unlike the 3DS Asphalt game (and I had to rewrite that one quite a bit for stylistic consistency...too much unnecessary boldface and italics).
Text from the Vita version after I'd edited the entry on the 3DS game:
- Asphalt Injection for the Playstation Vita, a 2012 port of Asphalt 6, is better than 3D but is still an Obvious Beta. The graphics are actually really good, but it is shocking and bizarre how many ports it has. There are also no bikes, despite there being bikes in the original game. The cars all handle and feel the same like they were copied and placed onto other cars in the game. The AI is absolutely horrible (they don't even try to wreck you like they are supposed to in "Under Pressure") and the music is just trying to get you hyped up for nothing. The online mode usually goes all over the place in terms of connectivity and it's really easy to take out the AI (you can wreck the AI in less then 5 nudges on their door) and the only amazing thing about this game is how many decals there are. But the most insane, weird, exclusive thing this game has? A completely useless and pointless garage that tells you nothing about the cars you own, there are only a few spaces for the cars (meaning it will not display other cars you own) and it just has no purpose. And the worst thing about it is that if you wait for All 6 other AI opponents to finish the race, you can push them into the starting grid so that you can pass them and win! Why would you get a $30 port of a 99 cent iOS game when the cheaper game has more content, better reviews, and is loved more by critics?
Pulled Fuck Quest. While looking to see if this game qualified I didn't see many negative reviews at all, and it actually got a positive review from Rock Paper Shotgun here: http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2013/07/30/nsfw-fkquest-highway-to-the-bonerzone/
Here's the writeup if anyone thinks it should go back:
- Fuck Quest for DOS, designed by one Richard Eter, is one of the saddest cases of self insertion this side of Sonichu, sadder still for being one of the most blatant Parody Retcons. Your goal is to get your character, also named Richard, laid, and that's pretty much it. Where do we start... It was made in 1998, but resembles the text-and-graphic based games of the 1980s—and it fails at being one of those, too. The plagiarized, monophonic score is the least of its issues; it's unbelievably crass in its execution—more than half of the 11(!) overworld maps feature references to sex and/or naughty bits, all of them Fetish Retardant due to either the tremendously outdated graphics or Eter's horrid drawing skills. The text is crude at best and obscene at worst. The art? Well... What few things weren't taken directly from Leisure Suit Larry would barely (if ever) pass in middle-school art class—many things were clearly done with whatever Paint function Eter had on hand, and what isn't a simple shape or executed using the "fill" function is very sloppily drawn and/or scribbled in an even sloppier fashion.
Pulled Godzilla, but it was a decent write-up so I put it here:
Godzilla for the Play Station 4 is a good contender for the worst game of 2015. What initially starts off as a decent beat-em-up reminiscent of the earlier Godzilla fighters quickly reveals itself to be a complete and utter trainwreck that wouldn't even appeal to hardcore Godzilla fans or regular gamers. The controls aren't the problem, nor is the slow movement speed of any of the playable Kaiju; it's just about everything else. Two essential gameplay elements - blocking and aiming your beam attacks - are completely absent, making fighting the army and other monsters way, way more difficult than it needs to be. There's a severe lack of content for the high price you have to pay to get the game; God of Destruction mode effectively has you destroying generators every single scenario while King of Kaiju is more or less six straight fights of randomly selected giant monster. To make matters worse, there are a couple of other modes that function almost identically to God of Destruction. Diorama Mode, which is often described as being the "best" mode, is completely pointless and is only there to add something other than the few other modes the game has. Any item drops you get from King of Kaiju are completely randomized and will not be for the Kaiju you're playing as, meaning that you have to play through the same mode over and over again (the same thing also applies to God of Destruction, which can be completed in under an hour thanks to this system) and if you want to apply those upgrades to your Kaiju in Evolution Mode (which is just a glorified upgrade screen), you'll have to lose all of your progress of repeated playthroughs in God of Destruction mode and restart the process all over again, making you have to play through the game even more. Multiplayer is also incredibly broken as there is absolutely zero matchmaking balance. Even if you're just starting out, you could be playing against far, far superior players whose levels are in the hundreds and get your ass kicked thoroughly. To add insult to injury, there's no local multiplayer at all, meaning that you'd have to spend even more money to get a brand-new Playstation 4 and another copy of the game at full price. And that's only just scraping the surface of the problems. It's a boring, frustrating and extraordinarily repetitive experience that will drive you insane the longer you play it. Angry Joe had more than a few choice words to say about this abomination, and he was not merciful in his beatdown.
I removed Infestation: Survivor Stories. It was a massive financial success, selling 2.8 million copies on a shoestring budget, and many of the complaints given by reviewers in the original game's release were eventually addressed. Here is the original description.
- Infestation: Survivor Stories (formerly titled The War Z) is a blatant knockoff of DayZ theorized to have been made to trick people into mistaking it for the official standalone version of DayZ (despite the developer's dubious claim that it was in development for two years). It is an awful game that barely deserves being called a "foundation release", let alone an early beta, being riddled with ugly textures and animations, extremely poor performance, boringly simplistic combat, and bugs galore, and with no real mechanism to punish bad behavior on the part of players. What made it truly horrible, however, was the blatant disregard for the customers shown by the publishing company, with a real money store where you can purchase in-game weapons and items that disappear completely from your inventory when you die, a Steam page that featured outright lies about the features present, and people getting banned at random to counteract hacking (the logic being that people won't bother hacking a game where you can get randomly banned without any given justification). The game's official forums are intensely moderated and censored, with criticizing the game being a bannable offense and the developers lashing out at critics by claiming that they have no idea what they're talking about and don't understand the game. The complaints got so venomous that Valve not only removed it from Steam (albeit temporarily), but also offered refunds, years before Steam established a proper refunds system. Here's TB giving a breakdown. It's only the icing on the cake that one of the people behind Big Rigs: Over the Road Racing was one of the game's developers.
Does Crazy Bus actually belong here? It's not really a game nor it's intended as such; it's just a tech dump thing to test a C (++?) compilator.
Hide / Show RepliesI culled it. If anyone has any objections, speak now or forever hold your peace (not really, but you get my drift).
Godzilla PS 4....granted that game sucks but...I heard some mixed things as well. I noticed Famitsu gave it a rather high 30 out of 40
Maybe I am wrong though
Hide / Show RepliesThe Amazon reviews are hovering around 3.5/5, and from the looks of it, people who enjoy it really, really enjoy it. I don't think it belongs here.
Yeah...save the text though, just in case. It does present a lot of valid points, unlike other removed entries
Should we add Oriental Hero for the ZX Spectrum to the list? Stuart Ashens reviewed the game and it's virtually unplayable because your character gets killed in one hit and everything goes so fast you barely last for a few seconds. Unless if it had a niche that I'm not aware of. The first game simply called Ninja Master was mediocre, but not terrible.
Edited by GBAuraRebirth Hide / Show RepliesOne reviewer is sort of weak.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanIf you can find some more reviews, than possibly. Since ZX Spectrum was so huge that it got magazines dedicated to it, you might be able to find some old reviews somewhere.
The Ridge Racer entry for the PSVITA, that needs to be re-written a bit. It isn't so horrible that you need to get DLC for the full experience for a $20 game, and it doesn't mention any other flaws (it actually says its "ok" in other spots). Also "it may be the worst racing game on a handheld, but why does it need to be here" kind of explains itself.
Does "Kill the Faggot" belong here? http://arstechnica.com/gaming/2015/05/failed-christian-shoe-promoter-makes-anti-gay-first-person-shooter/
Hide / Show RepliesPulled from Steam; dev made "the most overly offensive game possible to prove a point."
I don't think it really counts if the developer wanted to make it overly offensive on purpose. Besides, it's still way too soon to add.
Edited by AntwanMaybe a bit too early to add, but Rugby 15 is a likely candidate for this page.

"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanI removed Desert Bus because it seems to have a niche audience. If anyone can prove otherwise it should be re-added.
- Penn and Teller's Smoke and Mirrors could've been a boring but otherwise unremarkable collection of minigames on the Sega CD (had it been released in stores: its release was cancelled due to publisher Absolute Entertainment's closure), were it not for the game's main attraction: "Desert Bus". To wit: you have to drive a bus through the desert between Tucson, Arizona, and Las Vegas, Nevada. The bus is a hunk of junk with a top speed of 45 MPH, and the distance between Tucson and Vegas is traversed in real time. To put a number to it: it takes eight hours, in real time, to travel to your goal. And your reward for making the drive? One point. One measly little point for a boring eight-hour drive down a boring, featureless desert road with only the droning of your bus's engine to keep you company. Then it's another eight hour drive back to Tucson for another point, and so forth.
Worse still, the steering wheel on the bus is borked, so you're constantly veering to one side and have to pay attention lest you veer off the road, in which case you'll have to be towed back to the starting point. Again, in real time. This is a game so wretched, so horrible, The Angry Video Game Nerd briefly considered retirement after playing! The entire point of the game was to troll players and make fun of the trend towards "realism" in games by putting players into a tediously boring real-life job; clearly, it worked all too well.
There is some good to have come from this mess, thankfully. LoadingReadyRun made Desert Bus for Hope, a gaming marathon where these brave souls subjected themselves to Desert Bus to raise money for Childs Play. Their efforts helped raise two million dollars for charity. The game has been officially on Android and iOS, with all proceeds going to Childs Play, if you feel like giving to a good cause (at the cost of your own sanity).
he side games of this compilation were made to trick players or be satirical; Desert Bus was made to mock critics against video games for being too violent. It was made to be as boringly realistic as possible. It doesn't really fall under So Bad Its Horrible if it's trying to be horrible on purpose. I think somebody jumped the gun and put it here because The Angry Video Game Nerd reviewed it (as usual).
Does Dragon Ball Z: Sagas really belong here? It received mixed reviews meaning that some people like this game and doesn't look anywhere near as bad as the other games on this page.
Edited by 99.56.73.89 pee pee poo poo Hide / Show RepliesIn my opinion, yes. The negative things I've seen regarding the game clearly outweigh the positive, the promises of an open-world game are broken, there are a great amount of glitches, and compared to other Dragon Ball Z games, this one just doesn't compare. There may be some that say it's a mixed bag, but I don't feel like it's strong enough of an opinion to justify it not being here.
It's got around 50% on, both, Metacritic and Game Rankings, with some high profile sites and magazines giving it decent scores. The user ratings on Metacritic are too few to make a judgement call based on them, but those seem to be mixed as well. It doesn't have much going for it, but I don't think this should be here. This should be for things that are considered to be completely terrible, not just "bad", and certainly not "disappointing". The write-up is bare-bones and pretty much just "linear levels, high difficulty and no check-points", none of which screams "horrible." Getting rid of it.
Edited by supergod For we shall slay evil with logic...I personally still don't agree, but since that's the consensus, this is left here for now:
- Dragon Ball Z Sagas for the Gamecube tried to recapture the beat-em-up charm of the GBA's Legacy of Goku titles and added a co-op mode. Didn't work, thanks to depressingly-linear levels, ridiculously-high difficulty, and no checkpoints. You can watch ProJared's review of it here.
"Please read the rules before adding things to these pages" by supergod. Might want to ask them what the rule in question was.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanI meant to write, "please read the note...". I mean the "don't add something unless it fails to appeal any kind of notable fanbase" thing. It has a fanbase. There are some decent reviews. It's mostly considered as goofy rather than outright horrible. The YMMV section of the work itself says it was popular in Poland.
Edited by supergod For we shall slay evil with logic...Does Meme Run truly belong here? I ask because of two major reasons. The first is despite the largely negative reception it's been getting, it's also sold fairly well. You can still see it on the Wii U main menu screen as of this post. The second reason is that it's still a recent release, and other games have been removed from this list simply because they were recent. Thoughts?
Hide / Show RepliesShould Uriel's Chasm go here? I only ask because it's one of the few games to achieve an "overwhelmingly negative" review ratio on Steam, and most of the positive reviews are sarcastic and backhanded.
The game has butt-ugly graphics and barely functional keyboard controls, though a lot of classic shoot-em-ups had similar problems. The developer has tried to pass it off as a case of Stylistic Suck, but just because something is bad on purpose doesn't make it good.
The game was nominated for a TIGA award in the "Game With a Purpose" category. However, due to a bad case of True Art Is Incomprehensible, the game's educational content is limited at best. Personally I would have laughed my ass off had it won, though it still speaks ill of TIGA's credibility that it was considered at all.
Anyway, thoughts?
Hide / Show RepliesWhat's its average score? And it does appear to apply since nothing good can be found about it, since yeah, those reviews are obviously not "we enjoyed it" here.
Not enough outlets have covered it to produce a Metascore, though Hardcore Gamer gave it a 70.
Currently 12% of 976 Steam reviews are "positive". I actually find this suspicious considering that we're talking about a low profile indie game. Given the Stylistic Suck angle, I think it may be an attempt to invoke No Such Thing as Bad Publicity via astroturfing. Alternatively, the developer has acted like a Smug Snake and describes his games with a sort of word salad pretentiousness, so maybe that annoyed people and threw off the score.
That is suspicious. I'd say it's a bit too hard to tell at this point.
Although the fact one thing gave it a super high score doesn't much help.
Might not be able to really determine it for a while yet.
What I mean by an average score is actually combining the reviews and averaging it out. How many of those positive reviews actually describe it as actually good non-sarcastically? If many. If almost none, we could probably list it. If not, then it's just a fairly unpopular game, but not actually horrible enough.
I count 14 out of 124 clearly praising it. There are also a handful of neutral reviews commenting briefly on the game's weirdness.
Well, So Bad, It's Horrible says that such works don't attract proper fandoms beyond Bile Fascination. It seems like this one has actually some genuine fans, there.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanI'm not so sure. Daikatana has 19 sincere positive Steam reviews as well as an unofficial patch, Infestation Survivor Stories has a legit fanbase, and even E.T. for the Atari 2600 has some critics saying it was pretty good for its time. It seems these rules are a bit flexible in practice.
Personally I don't hate Uriel's Chasm, I just asked because of the review ratio.
Again, like the Sonic Boom request below, it's still too soon to say. People can be easily swept up by negativity and join in, even if they never played the game. Give it a year, see if people still feel the same away or it ends up in a lot of "worst of" lists and then it could have a chance.
Does Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric for Wii U belong here? It's a glitchy mess with a forgettable soundtrack, outdated graphics, framerate issues, annoying in-game dialogue, and boring gameplay. It has a 31% on Metacritic and GameRankings.
Edited by 99.56.73.89 pee pee poo poo Hide / Show RepliesI watched some episodes of a let's play and the game's problems are not obvious on video. Maybe elaborate a bit?
A good chunk of the time, I hear people talking about how it's "still better than 06", so it's not that universally panned. A lot just look at it as another mediocre product, not "too awful to play".
Basically, the glitches rarely make the game unplayable(even 06 can't say that), so it's just shrugged off. I'm pretty sure it needs a way lower rating and to actually be hated, not people simply disappointed in it.
Also, I do see some positive reviews. That makes me inclined to say "no" to listing it.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanI say no for one reason: it's way too soon to be adding that. Give it a year or two and see how people feel about it then. We don't want to jump the gun here.
I really don't like defining generations by years, because overlaps between them tend to happen often. To help remedy this situation, I think we should have a new folder for PC-exclusive entries since the platform's longevity kind of defies being defined by "generation".
I now go by Graf von Tirol. Hide / Show RepliesDefining the generations by consoles is easier, I agree with that, but by years is the more generally followed guideline. One of the reasons, I think, is because some of the consoles that are within a later generation are released earlier than the others (i.e. XBOX 360 came in 2005, Wii and PS3 came in 2006, but all three are considered 7th-gen consoles); then there's the matter of ripoff consoles (i.e. Vii) that are severely underpowered compared to the more legitimate consoles, and still are released within an ongoing generation.
I dunno, all of this is very complicated. Whatever I say will probably be taken as wrong by someone else. So there's not much I can suggest to you. =(
135 - 169 - 273 - 191 - 188 - 230 - 300But surely, there's some way we can organize these shitty games further. Yes, defining generations by years can be a bit confusing, but why not define the games themselves by consoles?
"Fame is fleeting, but infamy lasts forever."I really think this whole organisation thing needs to get resolved at some point - there's just been a slight disagreement on the history page as to whether Ride To Hell: Retribution goes in the 7th generation page (Since it was released for the 7th gen platforms), or in the 8th generation page (Since the 8th generation folder encompasses the release date of RTH, while the 7th generation folder doesn't). We definitely need a new way of defining where everything goes in terms of folders.
Edited by 31.54.137.30 There's no place that you can hide/Something that's specialClaiming the Dreamcast was in the same generation as the Playstation and Nintendo 64 is inaccurate, and shows bias on the part of the trope author. It's obviously the successor to the Saturn, putting it in the same generation as the Playstation 2, Game Cube, and Xbox. It didn't last long enough to compete directly with the latter two systems, but the Dreamcast did duke it out with the PS 2 for a year before Sega dropped its support for the machine.
The official creator of the Magical Mystery Doors trope!Speaking of generations, do you think it would be wise to break this particular page down into sub-pages, with the list of eligible systems clearly labeled as per The Other Wiki? (I propose a separate page for computer games, since the PC as a gaming platform encompasses multiple generations.)
I hope you get tiny bits of eggshell in all your omelettes for the rest of your life! Can we move Air Control and Zen Fish Sim to Video Games: Other under it's developer (Killjoy)'s name?
Does Sonic the Hedgehog (2006) really belong? It has over 40% on both Gamerankings and Metacritic, which suggests that it's below average, but not SBIH.
Edited by 193.157.200.87 Hide / Show RepliesThat game has a vast hatedom, so I suspect that it's shoehorned in.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanIt's always shoehorned in. People can't just accept that some actually like it. It even has User Reviews with high scores and those who vastly prefer it over Unleashed.
It was still playable, even though it had some messy parts. It just isn't horrid enough to be on this page.
I nominate Depression Quest. Hardly a game, plus it started the whole Gamergate fiasco.
Little hamsters, big adventures. Hide / Show RepliesNeeds a better reason, sorry. "Hardly a game" is not much, and we don't care about internet controversies at all. Especially when they have nothing to do with what the work contains.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanOkay. Let's look at the gameplay then... oh wait, what gameplay? Selecting choices that further the pretentious plot with the added "fuck you" of making the most reasonable decision in any given situation inaccessible? Nice gimmick there Zoe, convince people with depression that even in their current mental state they can't find ways to be rational. Also, she's expecting people to pay money for this when even the most basic of Visual Novels have more substance than this at similar prices.

Edited by 80.212.52.93Plus, It'll just lead to flame wars because of its connection to Gamer Gate.
...you're kidding. You're siding with the [might I add paid] critics on this one.
Let's take a look at what the cited authors had to say on this little gem.
Oh, what's that Jessica Vazquez of Game Revolution? You "praised the game's portrayal of how sufferers are affected by depression, and expressed optimism in its potential to educate people about the disease"? Let me tell you something, Jess. I can certainly tell the protagonist of this "game" is depressed. No doubt about it, it's realistic portrayal. But that alone does not make it a good game. Well, for one, if it had actual gameplay it would be a good game but that's beside the point. And if you need a shitty faux-Visual Novel to tell you the do's and don'ts of depression, you are taking your condition the wrong way and should seek genuine help.
Ah, our boy Adam at Gizmag called it "dark and compelling". Dark? Oh, for certain. That repetitive, overly melancholy piano piece certainly created that kind of mood. Compelling? I was compelled to get through the trainwreck as soon as possible, so props to you Adam. Hey, you were also right about the game not being fun to play too.
Shame on you Tim Biggs for further perpetuating the "awareness" fallacy regurgitated by this game's supporters.
And don't act like this site hasn't had worse flame wars over more trivial matters. Go to any Dethroning Moment Of Suck page and be amazed at how vehemently Tropers decry cartoon writers for doing their job. It's that breed of overreacting that brought us The Mysterious Mr Enter but somehow hasn't done anything to rectify the bullshit and madness Gamergate brought about.
Add to that the fact that Zoe Quinn did some awful things *cough*using Robin Williams suicide as an excuse to garner support*cough*.
Little hamsters, big adventures. Also, this was a game I played through and completed in a matter of minutes. For free. Yet Zoe Quinn expects to profit off of this. I have been depressed before, I stand by the belief that video games are an escape from those feelings, NOT a method of directly dealing with them. Now that's not to say the two are mutually exclusive - can one not reach an epiphany regarding their emotional state in the heat of such moments? But if I had to describe Depression Quest in one word? Pretentious. Much like its creator.
Little hamsters, big adventures.Eh, no, that is still not enough. One person's judgment is not enough to make this page. Thusly, opposing its addition.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanI'm not siding with the critics (and if you want to use "they're paid" as an argument for the game's addition on this page, you have to provide evidence). I'm just asking whether the game belongs on this page. According to the second important note, there needs to be independent evidence, such as actual, professional reviews, to list a work. A game isn't horrible just because it has a lot of negative reviews on Metacritic. Positive professional reviews indicate that a work doesn't belong on the page. If you can prove that the positive reviews are fake and hopefully provide some negative professional reviews, I might be in favour of adding Depression Quest to the page.
How is the "awareness fallacy" a fallacy? The game was meant to educate non-sufferers about depression. Is that a bad thing? Also, the game is supposed to be educational, not to be "fun". Of course, a fun and educational game would have been better, but being educational alone is a value.
I agree with Septimus Heap and oppose its addition unless you can provide independent evidence. By the way, if you want to share your opinion on the game, I suggest that you write a review and post it somewhere.
Zoe Quinn "[used] Robin Williams suicide as an excuse to garner support"? The release was planned before Robin Williams's suicide. Quinn knew that she'd get negative publicity if she released it that day, but did it anyway because she wanted to make it available. It wasn't an "excuse to garner support". Anyway, this doesn't have anything to do with the contents of the game itself.
"And don't act like this site hasn't had worse flame wars over more trivial matters." That's a red herring. The fact that there have been flame wars over more trivial matters doesn't justify putting obvious Flame Bait on the site.
The DMoS comment is irrelevant for the discussion of whether Depression Quest should be added, but I'd like to point out that it's not just Tropers "decry[ing] cartoon writers for doing their job". The Tropers who have posted there thought the writers had done their jobs badly, so they wanted to complain. Anyway, DMoS has strict rules to avoid flame wars.
Edited by 193.157.206.77Personally, I think the game itself deserves a spot on this for quality, but it absolutely shouldn't go on here because of massive levels of Flame Bait.
Even if the game itself was just 10 hours of farting monkeys, keep it off this page.
Found a Youtube Channel with political stances you want to share? Hop on over to this page and add them.About Ronde, according to this reviewer, if you can get past the ugly graphics and terrible voice work (and that's a very strong if), the actual game itself not that bad. The entry for this game only trashed the awful graphics but nothing on the gameplay.
Edited by 76.117.181.196 Hide / Show RepliesNo one has anything to say about this? The only thing the page ever talks about is how ugly the graphics, but nothing on the actual game itself.
Well, if it's only the graphics, I can see throwing it out.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanDoes anyone else think Custer's Revenge belongs on this page?
Hide / Show RepliesThis one? As much as it seems awful, it was helped by No Such Thing as Bad Publicity and thus falls under the following rule:
Important Note: Merely being offensive in its subject matter is not sufficient. Hard as it is to imagine at times, there is a market for all types of deviancy, no matter how small a niche it is. It has to fail to appeal even to that niche to qualify as this.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanYeah but it only sold a few thousand copies and is widely held as one of the worst video games of all times... just because it is famous for being bad doesn't mean it doesn't belong on this list.
Go into the advertising section of this page and you'll find tons of horrible commercials with lots of publicity (many due to unfortunate implications, nonetheless). Go into the music and theater section and you'll find plenty of well-known flop performances.
This game though takes Unfortunate Implications and doesn't just cross the line, it pretty much destroys it. There can't be a very large niche for a very crude representation of rape and racism all tied into one package but even with that said, it fails at its goal completely. If there was anything erotic intended (ignoring the squick factor), the Atari's graphics are a bit too lackluster to produce it. Even for those that believe it falls in the So Bad Itsgood camp because they believe outright vulgarity is automatically crossing the line twice; the game simply delivers very little to no entertainment. It's dull, lacks intrinsic or camp value, and would lose it's entertainment factor after 3 minutes.
Edited by 152.228.108.139Yeah, from everything I've heard, the gameplay is just as bad as the premise and being a third-party Atari game would indicate.
Found a Youtube Channel with political stances you want to share? Hop on over to this page and add them.OK, that has me convinced. I would take jag140's 3th paragraph wholesale and put it on the page.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanI like to have Winter Games (NES version) added to this list. Unlike the other versions of the game, this version (which isn't even developed by Epyx themselves, but rather a small Japanese company called Atelier Double) has only four minigames (Hot Dog Aerials, Speed Skating, The Bobsled, Figure Skating), horrid music, abysmal graphics, and unresponsive and counter-intuitive controls.
- While Winter Games is a classic on other systems, the NES version is an infamously bad Porting Disaster. The game has a terrible menu, the graphics are crap, and the music is ear-grating. The game only has four minigames (Hot Dog Aerials, Speed Skating, The Bobsled, Figure Skating) compared to the Atari 2600 version. The gameplay is sluggish to the point of being unplayable due to its unforgiving amounts of Fake Difficulty stemming from Trial-and-Error Gameplay that gives zero clue as to what to do, and counter-intuitive controls. Worst of all, the game wasn't even developed by Epyx themselvesnote This version was a failure and was panned by both critics and players upon release, and is considered among the worst games available for the NES. It's little wonder why The Angry Video Game Nerd reviewed the game for his Christmas episode and even actually destroyed the game cartridge with fire.
If you can confirm the "is considered among the worst games available for the NES" line and add a link to the nerd's review, then I'd say add it and see what happens. Don't forget that it has less minigames than the Atari2600 version (according to the aforementioned review.
@IDS Isa Gree: I've added the info to confirm it among the worst NES games available and the link to the AVGN review. can it be added now?
Edited by 75.23.234.106Sure, why not? The user name is "I Disagree" (I just wrote it strangely on purpose). Also it's generally not my choice anyway but I doubt people will remove it.
So you can't add a game to this page unless the Angry Video Game Nerd says it's terrible? People put way too much stock in that guy's four letter words.
The official creator of the Magical Mystery Doors trope! No, but a Caustic Critic can show more people the flaws of a work and reinforce the badness. Honestly I feel you need more links about why it's considered the worst. Also I'm a fan but I'd say it's more about general consensus (he might hate a game yet others might love it and thus the game gets disqualified) than anything else. It's got good reason to be here ...
I found a game called FBI: Hostage Rescue on a list of bad video games...apparently it suffered from terrible programming and AI,,,
I don't think Big Rigs Over The Road Racing counts for this trope. For one it's the page image for Video Games and most find it that way. To quote the page, "Even the Angry Video Game Nerd himself thinks that having a game that essentially has no rules like Big Rigs is ridiculously fun! " Infamy doesn't guarantee a spot on So Bad Its Good otherwise we'd have the Atari E.T. game on here.
Lunar Dragon Song does not deserve to be on this page. There were a decently large amount of both critics and fans that had positive reviews of the game.
Hide / Show RepliesYeah, it seems questionable.

Do you still think that Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric should be removed?
