Date A Live

For Ellen Mira Mathers character tropes.

  • The Berserker: A downplayed variation. Even she rarely shows her anger, she's quite aggresive when against someone.

Death is the most worse punishment, but kept alive with a cruel mercy even worse than death.

Don't Look Under the Bed

* SomethingOnlyTheyWouldSay: Frances realizes something is up with the boogeyman when he calls her "Frannie." [[spoiler:This was the nickname her old ImaginaryFriend Zoe called her before Frances forced herself to grow up]].

* ChekhovsGun: When Frances first meets Larry in his various disguises, such as a fireman, she says he's like one of Darwin's toys. [[spoiler:Very apt as Larry used to be Darwin's imaginary friend]].

Leprechaun (the trope not the series) Changing: * In an episode of ''JohnnyBravo'', Johnny tried desperately to kiss a leprechaun named Barney Stone because, due to a silly misunderstanding, he thought it would make him irresistible to chicks. After an extensive chase, Johnny caught Barney, who granted his wish in exchange for ''not'' being kissed... which led to Johnny being [[LiteralGenie swarmed by poultry]].

Skin Game:

* CombatPragmatist: Harry discusses why he more often than not tries not to leave a trail of dead bodies with his enemies when given a choice. One reason is killing someone, even an evil person, could make him enemies of those who were friends or family with the dead man.

Villain Ball
** Harry and Grey stop Dierdre from grabbing it when they need to get a sample from Harvey. Upon discovering the man's office was in the same building as a bank both halt the original run-and-grab plan as there would be at least one armed policeman present with a police car patrolling very frequently. And while Dierdre had no qualms with killing dozens of policemen and bystanders who might be in the way, that doesn't keep things low key. Harry further notes Nicodemus not taking Harvey's schedule and who he might be meeting that day as part of the planning caused them to have to wait until lunch for a chance to take Harvey in a less secure area.

The Legend of Korra

Episode 1 horror reply to this:

  • If Bumi had not suddenly gained Air Bending and used it MERE FEET above the ground while falling off the cliff, his poor family would have found his broken corpse at the bottom of that ravine. A terrible prospect.
== ** If Kya had noticed a change in his aura, then it is possible Bum-Ju sensed it too and knew he could airbend and would likely survive. Bum-Ju just acted like a mother bird pushing the babies out of the nest.

Hiccup * TheHerosJourney: Hiccup's development over the course of the two movies mirrors this.
** In the first one, he is [[JumpedAtTheCall jumping for the call but generally ignored]] until he shoots down Toothless and lets him go. He crosses the threshold when he chose to try an actually befriend Toothless, with Toothless being the first guardian. He pursues his new path and brings himself to blows with Stoic's rigid ideals. He does gain atonement with his father when the father realized his own faults, culminating in Hiccup's "death" with losing his leg. When he returns to his home, he finds it irrevocably changed by the wisdom he gained and shared.

Sorry Zl, we just don't have enough people on this thread providing help. I can do yours right now, though.

* WhatCouldHaveBeen:
** The C65 was a huge step forward, but it still had an only 8 bit CPU, although it outperformed many 16bit computer and console graphically. The parent company focused more on the Amiga systems and the IBM PC clones.
** The Commodore LCD, which never made it out of a few computer magazines and one or two trade shows.

Idiot Programming:

* VESA Local Bus. While it enabled high resolution SVGA graphics for the PC, the cards were very long and hard to insert due to the fact that they needed two ports: The standard ISA and an additional 32 bit bus hardwired to the 486 processor bus. The latter caused huge stability and compatibility issues, because the cards had to operate at various clock speeds (between 25MHz and 40MHz) depending on the actual bus clock. It was even worse if there were expansion cards for functions other than graphics plugged in next to it (especially IO cards). This usually resulted crashes during games that used SVGA graphics while trying to access the hard drive. All this led to the 486 bus-dependent VLB being replaced with the PCI in Pentium class computers and even on newer 486 boards.

Don't forget to make sure your Example Indentation is right.

The Paladin

I expanded the entry a little. My words are in parentheses.

* The three Knights of the Cross in ''Literature/TheDresdenFiles'' are paladins, complete with holy swords into each of which has been incorporated one of the nails used during the crucifixion of Jesus. ( The Swords of the Cross are named ''Amoracchius'', the Sword of Love, ''Esperacchius'', the Sword of Hope, and Fidelacchius, the Sword of Faith.) Taking up one of the Swords of the Cross means accepting a MissionFromGod to go where they are most needed and help those who need to be saved. (Sometimes it is a life long mission. Others only wield the Sword for one mission and set the Sword down when the need is no longer present.) Michael Carpenter, the most often-seen Knight in the series, even wears plate armor (albeit reinforced with Kevlar, and other Knights such as Sanya are known to rely on more modern gear including a Kalashnikov automatic rifle). They're also notable for being one of the most positive portrayals of paladins in all of fiction, being good, honest, kind-hearted people who don't force their beliefs on others and help anyone who truly needs it[[note]]In fact, Michael is the only devout Christian of the three; Sanya is a FlatEarthAtheist, while Shiro was converted because he thought the offer to "meet the King" meant a chance to meet Music/ElvisPresley. ( [[spoiler:the latest Knight is Jewish]])[[/note]]. In fact, their primary mission when dealing with the Order of the Blackened Denarius - a group of up to thirty people possessed by {{Fallen Angel}}s - is not to execute them but to offer them redemption and save them from the path of darkness if at all possible. In the novel ''Literature/SkinGame'', [[spoiler:Michael even offers a chance at redemption to Nicodemus Archleon, the ''leader'' of the Order and a man who's cut a bloody swath across the planet for thousands of years. Obviously it doesn't work.]]

The Dresden Files – The Fae

In General:

* HumanWeapon: The Winter Knight is trained to fight and survive not with any weapon in particular, compared to Fix's powerful sword, but rather be the weapon to ensure survival.

For Fix

*ItWasAGift: Fix's sword that Lily melted was a gift to him from Queen Titania for being her Knight.

The Dresden Files – Harry's Household

For Harry

* HeroesPreferSwords: Averted. Save for his sword cane which was more useful in fencing, Harry won't be receiving any sword like Fix got from Mab.
--> '''Jim Butcher''': What’s he gonna do with a sword? He’ll cut himself. Honestly, if he had a sword he’d fall on it, you know he would. Somebody would take it away from him and hit him with it. That’s the kind of thing that happens.

* HumanWeapon: As the Winter Knight, Harry is expected to be his own most dangerous weapon, not needing to rely on magical trinkets and items to survive. That said, Mab has nothing against using them if it makes the job easier, just so long as they aren't a crutch.

Got the info on the fae and Harry with a sword parts here: http://www.jimbutcheronline.com/bb/index.php/topic,41204.0.html

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine S03E25 "Facets"

* BodySurf: The Guardian allows the personalities of Dax's previous hosts to move into different bodies.

* DidntSeeThatComing: Invoked. For the stress test, Nog was practicing in the shuttle. O'Brien brings up the test and he's in Ops with a different problem than he practiced for. It wouldn't test his response to stress if they gave him what he prepared for.

* LetUsNeverSpeakOfThisAgain: Quark would prefer Jadzia never tell anyone he was host to one of the female personalities and spent time just coming Jadzia's hair.

Skin Game:

* ArcWords: Harry is told by Karrin and Molly, "If a Knight with a sword is meant to be here, one will be here." [[spoiler:While Sanya was detained, at the end of the book these words come true as Waldo Butters was present. He just didn't know he was capable of being a Knight]].

* IdiotBall
** The Winter Knight Mantle grabs this at times for its "act first, think about consequences never." Take when Harry saw Binder and it angered Harry, the Mantle wanted Harry to storm out and kill the man. Harry had to rationally dissuade this desire until the Mantle relented.

* {{Irony}}: The Cosmic kind. [[spoiler:In the books thus far, each time Nicodemus faced against the Sword of Faith, he lost. He lost to Shiro by his sacrifice switching with Harry and taking some of Deirdre's blood foiled his plot in ''Death Masks''. His coveting the idea of destroying the blade in ''Small Favor'' led to his defeat once more. and here, even when he shattered the blade, the Sword still beat him and by his own actions, Nicodemus allowed for the Sword to gain an even more powerful physical form]]. Simply put, [[spoiler:a simple faith in a power greater than the self overcame his dark pride each time]].

Dresden Dead Beat:

* GenreSavvy: One of Marcone's people was killed by the actions of the necromancers. So he wants revenge. Knowing the type of man Harry is, he is betting that Harry will move to stop them and so Marcone aids Harry in his quest.

*HumansAreSpecial: In a dark way, mortal magic has one thing no other magic can do. Mortal magic [[spoiler:can summon the worst of {{Eldritch Abomination}}s, the Outsiders. The fact some showed up to aid the Red Court attack the Senior Council means there has to be a Council-level mage helping the Red Court]].

IJustWantToBeBadass: Waldo Butters, about 120lbs soaking wet, tried becoming part of the US military but washed out of boot camp. Same with the police. He failed both times but the push to be stronger is there. [[spoiler:This spark helped him push past his fear and control it to be able to help Harry at crucial moments]].

* KnowledgeBroker: [[spoiler:Mab, Queen of Air and Darkness,]] is a great collector of knowledge and there is little this person doesn't know. When Harry sought the person's wisdom [[spoiler:Mab freely gave only what Harry's godmother knows. This is because she was acting as Lea's proxy. The price for knowledge beyond what Lea knew, however, isn't free. The payment is Harry accepting the mantle of the Winter Knight. Harry refuses]].

* ThePromise: The fae have a firm belief in fulfilling promises and debts. Leaders are even obligated to fulfill the promises of subordinates if the subordinate is indisposed while on duty for the leader. For this reason [[spoiler:when Harry called his godmother, Mab is standing in for Lea, who tried some attempted coup and failed. Mab has detained her but not killed her as she is still useful]].\\ \\ [=* WalkOnWater: [[spoiler:Mab, Queen of Air and Darkness]] can manifest and stand on water.

The Dresden Files Unfazed Everymans And Badass Normals

Butters

IJustWantToBeBadass: Waldo Butters, about 120lbs soaking wet, tried becoming part of the US military but failed in boot camp. Same with the police. He failed each time but the push to be stronger is there. This push led him to ride on a zombie dinosaur to save the world and pursue other dangerous paths. This finally culminated in him [[spoiler:becoming a Knight of the Cross]].

For The Dresden Files – The Fae and Cold Days

* OOCIsSeriousBusiness: Mab's relationship to Mac is such that [[spoiler:she willingly touched iron to remove it from his belly, and help him heal. She suffered, however briefly, for him]].

Popeye

  • Intimidating Revenue Service:
    • In "Sea Hagracy", the Sea Hag has chests full of gold and chests full of emeralds she got after a year of piracy until a tax collector shows up to seize the gold as payment for emerald taxes and the emeralds as payment for gold taxes.
    • In one episode of the treasure seeking segment, Bluto gets the treasure but then a tax collector seizes it all and isn't satisfied.

Any mistakes?

You should be using the past tense, not the present tense. The events of the episodes aren't happening at the time the reader is reading the examples, after all.

That's incorrect. Always write in present tense unless the example is referring to things that happened previously.

  • Alice chastises Bob for that thing he did in the previous episode.

Gan Kon

* BerserkButton: Don't harm happy couples near Shinata. He will be very pissed and [[spoiler:attack even the enemy god, which is technically against the rules]].

* LoopholeAbuse: Technically, it is a major foul for the human agent to strike the opponent's god-partner in a battle. [[spoiler:Shinata got around this by "accidentally" hitting the enemy god while in a rage. He then repeated it several times over]].

Skin Game

* CorridorCubbyholeRun: [[spoiler:The Gate of Ice averts this. When Harry took a decent length of time to discern the minutes long interval and pattern of the safe spots, the final row, being too far for him to see clearly, didn't match up with the preceding one. With the way forward and back cut off, he takes a third option.]]
