  • Ever since the rise of the Covenant, thousands of different alien species have converged to the belief that they can rise to godhood through a Halo ring, such temptation would cause many to abandon their ideals in favor of what the Prophets delivered. However, in 2552, the Human-Covenant war began and the religious movement would see its military might and faith tested in numerous conditions. However, while rebellions were easily quelled in the Covenant, one in particular not only defied the rule, but rose further to the point of higher military might, and all would be lead by a single Brute who would rally his devoted against the theocratic rule of the Prophets.
    • What entailed the Brute from rebellion inspired others to do the same, as him and his brethren were sent into the frontlines, all in the name of the Great Journey. 40 brutes at a time, 40 sent into battle, yet out of the 39, he survived over and over, to the point of challenging the faith he was told. This inspired his remaining Brutes to rebel and overtime, their force slowly outmatched the Covenant in small battles, hijacking everything they had. By the time the Covenant was at its peak, it had two enemies to fight, humanity, which it had nearly eradicated, and the Banished, which it could never defeat even at its prime. And their leader? That is where Atriox steps in, as the staunch Brute who defied their faith and ruled with an iron fist, where he rules through strength and worth.
  • After months of recovery from the Covenant's arrival heralded by the Prophets, the group suddenly received major communications from another group, warning them of their "impending retribution" and their false lies. Some of the Pantheon's very own members on the House of War also received the message but it wasn't until the first sight of a ship clad in red and black first appeared in space, followed by an armada of other ships with the same color scheme, that another war was raging, but not just on the other members of the Pantheon, but on the Prophets and their Covenant. Soon, their temple and nearby others were ravaged by this new foe and soon, the Master Chief was called in to intercept this assault. He was then greeted by a large figure, donning large armour and bloodlust on his mind. His name is Atriox and the Brute demands a challenger after his war against the Prophets.
  • While many had not expected the Brute's arrival, in secret he found the Pantheon after tracing the Prophets' last location. Knowing that they entered into a place that has never been discovered within their own kin, Atriox personally visited the Court of the Gods, coercing them into accepting him within the newfound dimension. Amused, the Gods were ready to accept his offer, in which after he was instated, he ordered the Banished to enter and engage the Prophets and anyone nearby. It was this moment that the Court of the Gods realized they had accepted a warlord within Pantheon grounds and had called backup to escort him out but before they could get him, he was already within his flagship, the Enduring Conviction, overseeing the assault. The installation of his temple and his greeting to both the Prophets and the Master Chief have signaled his arrival and alongside him are the rest of the Banished at his disposal.
    • As for what position he took the moment he was consulting the Court of the Gods, they found one position that would fit him and his Jiralhanae group, a position that matches his bloodlust and function of the rest of the Banished. If anything, it basically confirms what the Banished stand for, a group that dedicates itself to combat and combat only. No complicated leaderships, no faiths, just pure bloodshed and trophies.
    • During his expansion, his forces encountered the Swords of Sanghelios, under leadership of Thel 'Vadam otherwise known as the Arbiter. While the relations between Jiralhanae and Sanghelli were at an all time high following the Great Schism, both have hated the presence of the Prophets and the Covenant, thus the race feud between the two were ignored, but the Arbiter cannot help but think that both him and Atriox are similar: two leaders of their own respective factions, fighting against the Covenant due to the realization that their ideals were nothing more than lies, then led rebellions that contributed to its downfall. The only thing that he worries is that the moment the Banished are done wiping the rest of the Covenant remnants clean, him and the rest of the forces will be next.
    • Several skirmishes later, some of his own foot soldiers were found missing under a certain house, to which he personally visited it to see the damages. To his utter shock and anger, what he found was the Gravemind, to which it reciprocated by "thanking" him and the Banished for setting him free, dubbed "Awakening the Nightmare". Atriox ordered a full elimination of such threat but even after leaving the wreckage, he cannot help but blame two of his own members for releasing it in the first place.
Atriox: I told you NOT to go inside. FOR GOOD REASON!
  • Do not be fooled under his appearance. He may be focused on the thrill of the fight and his army, which are a bunch of mercenaries recruited to fight with some infighting no less, may seem not as organized as your typical faction, but those who have witnessed fighting him and his army know that this is not the case. His army, despite working with technology made from scraps of different materials, can make such into working machines and use them in combat with terrifying pace. Combined this with his organized attacks and surprisingly effective stratagems used against his opponents, makes him and the Banished a gruesome foe. The one flaw putting him at a disadvantage is the fact that he has to constantly keep the faction organized, as there are still some infights between fellow Sangheili and Jiralhanae soldiers, making people wonder if the Banished will end up falling due to internal issues as opposed to outside problems.
  • Outside of the Master Chief, few were not pleased to see another killer simian on the loose. Caesar had his dealings with Koba, a fellow primate that advocated for humanity's extinction, so to deal with another if not highly trained version of him is disheartening. It does not help that the Banished in general are far more brutish and dangerous than what he has ever encountered. To him, Atriox is a prime example of how apes should never be as it only serves a reminder that not all apes as peaceful as he is. As for Koba, well he found his rightful home under Atriox's The Banished, allowing him to pillage and kill the humans he wants gone.
    • Caesar and Koba weren't the only primate deities that had met the brute's advances. For one, the Pantheon has a large variety of monkey-like beings in existence. The question then comes to who will join the Banished and those who he deems worthy or deny and accept death. Few have been accepted due to strict requirements, that being their worth in combat (i.e kill count) and their assets. Outside of that, the Banished and Atriox himself see majority to be unfit to join his group, though a few exceptions here and there are being considered.
    • Those that he excluded immediately were Mojo Jojo and Winston as the two don't have the combat capabilities the Banished are seeking, as the former's gadgets more often than not fail and Winston harbors great hatred against the brute warlord. If anything, the comparisons between him and Winston seem to show general opposites, with Winston fighting for peace while Atriox fights just for the hell of it, not to mention their technology, as Winston's is more stable while Atriox's is more on a function tech from different modules and scraps. The Jiralhanae is expecting a great fight regardless of the situation presented. And they were not the only ones rejected by him, Donkey Kong and Sun Wukong backed off seeing his bloodthirsty attitude and commented how he has no remorse for the weak-willed, Wukong in particular called him an 'aberration' to all monkey-kind. He doesn't care, so as long as a part of the Monkey God's body is in his trophies.
    • It took time, but other monkeys did support his actions and even gained positions to the Banished. Outside of the aformentioned Koba, Dr. Zaius was fascinated with Jiralhanae biology and can further implement his science on his men, provided they do give benefits in battle. On the other hand, Gorilla Grodd approves of his war against the UNSC and wishes to give support to the rest of the Banished, especially following the events that lead to the latter's massive defeat against Atriox.
    • However, one primate, despite his evil tendencies decided not to side with him, believing that the Jiralhanae is just risking his biology for his mode of experimentation, and that would be Andross. The (former) scientific genius of Corneria found himself repulsed by Atriox's need of conquering the world through sheer strength as opposed to taking the galaxy through biological manipulation and intelligence. However, it did not take long till he saw how he managed to bring a ragtag group of combat-hungry warriors into a steadfast army, he wasn't as dumb as he thought he was. With his charisma and and his strategic prowess, he may have underestimated him but he'll wait if the brute suddenly puts himself into Andross' cards right.
  • Banished standards (if you can even call it that) often requires the capacity to fight and the spoils of war. To say that Atriox abandons politics would be an understatement. He despises it and most especially, anything regarding faith in general angers him to a high degree. It explains why many peace treaties/talks with him have been basically rendered moot: he doesn't care about fancy words and deals; he only wants to fight.
    • But to be able to gather enough strength for his position, he must gain allies for his cause, and to start off such, he focused on the roots of the Banished, that being that they were a mercenary group, meaning mercenaries of any kind (even humans surprisingly) are allowed to join his cause. Senator Steven Armstrong and the rest of Desperado LLC are among the first the Banished have welcomed into their ranks. There were talks to see if Highlord Alarak and the Tal'darim were also considered to his list of allies from their color scheme of red and black, to the bloodthirsty fighters they house and train but so far Alarak has considered a temporary treaty of assistance, if and only if the Banished do not engage their homes, not to mention the latter's utter hatred for anything not Protoss of his kind. It also lead to him taking interests with individual fighting prowess, first with Kenpachi, then to Cú Chulainn, and then to Undyne after. Kenpachi declined his request while Lancer ignored him and Undyne wants a piece of the thrill from fighting. Lancer's case is more worrying as some are bothered with an idea of him getting a Servant (and a bloodthirsty one at that), something no one wants to try.
    • Soon, more persons of interest have popped in Atriox's radar, bolstering the Banished to a certain degree. It came first with both Esdeath and Seryu's integration within Banished ranks, believing the brute has a sense of strength over peace, not to mention the other forms of bloodshed the Banished have attained, seeing great potential with their alliance. Hell, both Esdeath and Atriox's mindsets are more than enough for the two to stick together when it comes to mighty authorities. Recruitments even extended to beasts that had a monkey-like appearance, such as the case with a stray Rajang that he had kidnapped to keep as the Banished's own pet to keep his forces in order, and rebel leaders who also became authoritarians in some kind took the opportunity to side with the Banished, evidenced by two notable leaders, Arcturus Mengsk and Fire Lord Ozai. While Ozai was against the Brute's lack of care towards traditions and only wants worth through fighting, it was still tolerable for the most part. Mengsk however was short-lived, realizing that majority of his Dominion forces were against this decision, he pulled out immediately, only to receive a large counter-assault by the Banished after pulling out. It goes to show that betrayal in his faction is non-tolerable, and he'll make sure no traitor gets out alive.
    • In regards to mercenaries, his eyes caught wind with several other mercs who would fit the Banished philosophy quite well, even though some are not as stable as most of his kin. Which was demonstrated with the recruitment of Gauron, Lockdown and Boris the Animal, of which the three have mixed opinions with their recruitment. Boris is rather strained at the fact that Atriox has placed a leash on Boris' attempts at forming a faction of Boglodites under his command and has limited it to only himself, citing that if Boris wants a place within the Banished, he'll have to fight his way through it. Lockdown was more insinuated that a talking "monkey" is giving him orders, although to make up for it, he is given a large amount of bounties to accomplish to satisfy his stay and Gauron, well, let's just say that it did not end well for him the moment he tried to consult with the Warmaster in regards to acquisition of his group into the faction. The response he got was his face mere inches away from his mace.
    • His might would also reach the ears of two lords, the Vampire Lord Abhorash and the leader of Arachnos Lord Recluse, both of which saw Atriox and the extensive connection of the Banished to be a welcome addition. Abhorash sees the brute's blood to be worth drinking thanks to his desire of a good fight, of which his specifications fits like a glove. The Blood Vampires do not mind fighting alongside the Banished so as long as the two can gain bloodshed, unless its against each other. Then there was his meeting with Lord Recluse, who sees great similarity between each other. The Darwinistic mindsets also helps the case, but it is the implementation that matters the most. Recluse is busy keeping Arachnos in order while Atriox has already kept that order (albeit rather messily) and prefers just fighting through what he and the rest of his forces face, not to mention his lack of diplomatic relations.
  • The House of Religion and Faith is also a victim of his constant attacks, outside of the fact that the Prophets reside within said location. To him, religion should be abandoned and no one of any relation to faith be given a second chance as it is mostly filled with lies, which explains why the terms 'God' and 'deity' are of nuisance with him. While the other weaker deities were unable to defend such engagements, the other far more powerful deities were able to hold their own and after having far more increasingly aggressive attacks, decided to ban him from the House in any capacity, believing that the only way Atriox will stop engaging the house is either until he or the house itself is destroyed.
  • The momentum he would later take advantage of was suddenly halted by large resistance on the other parts of the Pantheon as they had taken notice of the Brute's actions and has stopped him from spreading his influence on numerous occasions. The most fervent enemies he has gained were from the Imperium, who knew no better than to trust any form of xeno life (even if it may seem extreme to others). At first, they thought he was some form of Jokaero that went rogue but after their encounters with the Covenant did they slowly realize that the Jiralhanae were a different form of alien species, and as per Imperium fashion, ordered full extermination of his faction, with them as the spearhead.
    • Other armies took this message and spread it around other armies. Soon, other supporters came in to oppose the brute's advances, with XCOM in charge of protecting Earth the moment he comes into contact with them, the N7, lead by Commander Shepard, who took the charge in space combat against the Banished fleet, the Tenno and Guardians who agreed to fight the Banished on all fronts and the Blood Gulch Crew, as usual from a bunch of Spartans to lead the charge on land. To Atriox, this will satisfy his faction's bloodthirsty delight.
    • At some point, members of the Banished were being killed left and right by a single being of white and purple, all while yelling "filthy monkeys" on the skies. Atriox tracked the location of the being and would soon greet him, confirmed to be Frieza, on his temple via a large armada of his forces right on his front yard. Frieza would find himself in a stalemate as the Banished would handle his assaults, all while having no luck damaging his transformations. Growing bored, he left but baited them to the Saiyans, causing another conflict in-between. Goku did not appreciate what Frieza has done but the same can also be said to Atriox for being a murderous monkey, more hostile than some of the other Saiyans.
  • The Houses of Heroism, Leadership and the good-aligned deities of the House of Military and Warfare were on full-time alert the moment it was discovered that the UNSC, even at its strongest were wiped out by the Banished, and Atriox is getting all the prizes. The only thing standing between him and humanity's last chance to survive is none other than the Master Chief, determined to eliminate him before more damage could be done. Hearing this placed him under high priority as the risk of the same effect but done within the Pantheons is dangerously possible.
  • Has no idea why people keep associating him with Craig the Brute. Even after looking at the footage, he came out confused as to what the brute is. Some of the Banished, especially the brute members were the subject of laughs for months after such were revealed to the public.
  • The brute warlord has another spot within the House of Villainy, in the Hall of Villainous Archetypes.
  • "I am not Tartarus or some fanatic. I am not Truth. I am not Regret. I am their remedy."

  • Joe is a giant gorilla in Africa who was found by a girl named Jill when they were both young. She raised the gorilla as if he were a surrogate sibling. Years later, they were contracted by a man named O’Hara to bring Joe into the United States (he was brought either to a nightclub or a zoo habitat, depending on the version), where he became a sensation towards the crowd. However, an incident led Joe to escape the facility he’s in and rampage throughout the city, leading authorities to condemn Joe to death. However, Jill and her friends would help rescue him and get him out of the country. After another incident where he had to rescue some kids (either from a burning orphanage or a collapsing Ferris wheel, depending on the version), the law was convinced of Joe’s nobility and innocence and allowed him to go back to his native habitat with his friends.
  • Reports of a giant gorilla on the loose have circulated among various Pantheon hunters and explorers, with several convinced that the ape is King Kong. They decided to embark on a journey to find that ape. Only when finally confronting it did they realize that the ape isn’t Kong since he is fairly smaller. The ape didn’t like the sight of the guns that they brought, which prompted him to attack the group, though some of the members brought lassos in an attempt to rope the ape. Eventually, a young girl named Jill stepped into the scene, trying to convince the expedition team that Joe doesn’t mean any harm and it’s just that he doesn’t like it when people hurt him. It took a while to decide, but they decided to try to bring him to the Main House to grant him godhood with Jill agreeing to serve as his herald.
    • One thing that somewhat held the Main House back, however, is the fact that there are two versions of the character: the one from the 1949 film and the one from the 1998 remake. They were even confused with some of the differences between the two Joes, such as how Joe met Jill Youngnote . An evaluation was made that the Joe that resides the Pantheon is a composite of his two different selves, with memories of his 1949 self (notably his memories of performing in the nightclub and rescuing several children from a burning orphanage) and his 1998 self (notably his encounters with Strasser). Thanks to Pantheon magic, he is also able to alternate between the two forms.
  • It didn’t take long before he would meet up with the Eight Wonder of the World himself, King Kong. Kong appreciates seeing another giant ape to be friends with. Joe, for his part, looks up to Kong as a big brother of sorts (in more ways than one). That, and Joe’s relationship with Jill reminds Kong of his relationship with Ann Darrow (though Jill and Joe’s is more sibling-like). Caesar also finds himself hanging out with Joe more often than not, if because he reminds the chimp of his gorilla allies and because he appreciates the gorilla’s kindness. He also gets along with Donkey Kong and the other members of the Kong crew.
    • Winston is pleased to see another gorilla arrive in the Pantheon. When the two apes first crossed paths, Joe was surprised to see a gorilla like Winston who is intelligent enough to use advanced technology. Not that that prevented them from being friends as both bonded over the fact that they were raised by humans who treat them as surrogate relatives.
    • It turns out that he isn’t the only Kong-inspired ape in the Pantheon. He would sometimes spar with Blizzard and Chaos of the Draconians, but otherwise is on decent terms with them. Less so with George of the Rampage Wrecking Crew given that ape’s own destructive tendencies being a contrast to Joe’s mostly Gentle Giant nature. Sometimes, Joe gets roped by Rajang, a gorilla-like beast, to challenge him to a fight, with the latter usually being the one who would initiate it.
    • However, there are several primates that he doesn’t get along with. From Caesar, Joe was made aware of Koba, who is notable for his hatred for humans and his cruelty towards other apes for his own sake. Dr. Zaius is also disappointed with Joe as he dislikes how a gorilla with a fairly incredible size like Joe could be tamed by a mere human girl. Also hates Gorilla Grodd for his desire to kill all humans out of racism or his cruelty towards other gorillas. Mojo Jojo has tried to convince him several times into working with him, but Joe makes it clear that he doesn’t want to associate himself with a villainous chimpanzee like Mojo.
  • Both Steve Irwin and Eliza Thornberry are interested in Joe and are pretty protective of him. While Steve is primarily known for being the Crocodile Hunter, he is fascinated with Joe’s size and friendly personality. And Eliza is known to speak fluent animal, so she wouldn’t have a problem getting up close with Joe and serving as his translator. That, and the fact that she previously had an encounter with gorillas when they helped her and her sister get their vehicle out of a muddy river bank. Jill, for her part, entrusts them in taking care of him whenever she isn’t around.
  • Given that he lost his mother to Strasser, he usually avoids the Hall of Hunters, but one particular resident in that Hall that he doesn't like is Pokémon Hunter J, mostly due to the fact that she is a poacher similar to Strasser. Hunter J sees potential profits in capturing the ape, but every time she threatens Joe, he would more than likely go on a rampage just to try to attack her.
  • At first, Silica is concerned with crossing paths with Joe as he reminded her of an ape-like creature that killed her mother a while back. That changed, however, when the two ended up teaming up to battle Grodd after Joe saw him trying to attack her. Since then, the two have become friends as Silica then realized that Joe isn’t an irrationally aggressive evil ape and that he too had lost his mother, something that they bonded over.
  • Given that he once saved a group of kids from a burning orphanage, he was able to gain some degree and respect from King II and Kazuma Kiryu, both who value the safety of children. Many children deities have also taken a liking for Joe, particularly Anne-Marie, whom the gorilla has a soft spot for given their shared orphan status as well as the fact that like Eliza, she is also capable of verbally communicating with him. Joe is also well-acquainted with Tarzan due to the latter being a human who is raised by apes (who are either gorillas or Mangani depending on the version).
  • Can be seen hanging out with Ray Harryhausen as the gorilla’s film (the 1949 one) was the very first film that he had contributed his special effects to. Joe is glad to see one of his “fathers” face-to-face, and Ray is glad that one of the first creatures that he helped breathe life to is now a god residing in the Pantheon.

  • Lesser God (borderline Intermediate if he is enraged)
  • Symbol: His Glasses, which belonged to his caretaker; alternatively, a jar of Peanut Butter
  • Theme Song: "The World Could Always Use More Heroes" (shared with Tracer)
  • Alignment: Neutral Good with Lawful leanings
  • Portfolio: Born and raised on the moon as part of a special program, Adorkable, Barrier Warrior, The Big Guy, Deflector Shields, Deployable Cover, Handy Feet, Jump Jet Pack, Lightning Bruiser, Power Armor, Looking to recall all Overwatch agents even if it is illegal, Primal Rage, Not a Killer Gorilla Unless You Get Him Mad
  • Domains: Gorillas, Scientist, Electricity, Rage
  • Allies:
  • Enemies: Reaper, Doomfist, Widowmaker, Sombra, Mojo Jojo, Koba, Frieza
  • Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: Soldier: 76
  • Winston is a brilliant scientist who happens to be a talking Gorilla. He grew up in a base on the moon and, given his rapid brain development, he was taken under the wing of Dr. Harold Winston, the man he considers a father. However, his peers were unhappy about Winston's special treatment and revolted, killing everyone in the facility, including Dr. Winston. This made a big impact on Winston, who took the deceased doctor's name and returned to Earth, where he became one of the most important members of Overwatch.
  • Winston is unfazed whenever someone expresses amazement at him because he reminds a lot of deities of a certain famous gorilla. He actually got to meet the real Donkey Kong and actually found him to be a pretty nice fellow.
  • He can often be seen in the House of Food eating Peanut Butter. Apparently, he has a crippling addiction to it and he often gets excited by the smallest mention of it.
Winston: Did someone say "peanut butter"?
    • On the other hand, unlike most other primates, he doesn't like bananas, so it's not advisable to offer him one. He gets that often, but not enough to make him fly to a primal rage.
Winston: For the last time, no more bananas!
    • He does realize that it should be unnatural, and made sure that at least he'll fix that addiction for 2017.
Winston: My New Year resolution? Less peanut butters, more bananas.
  • Between their voices and their tendency to display incredible strength when they're angry, Winston has developed a strong friendship with Shizuo Heiwajima.
  • Has bonded with Caesar over the fact that they are both Uplifted Animals, although at first Winston was hesitant to meet him, given his past with his fellow gorillas who revolted back on the moon. On the other hand, he doesn't like Mojo Jojo because he reminds him of those same gorillas that killed his caretaker.
  • Winston has found that he is technically not the only ape from space; there is the Saiyan race that has the ability to turn into giant, destructive apes. While initially he was scared of meeting such people, he did end up befriending Vegeta and especially Goku.
  • Mei often likes to compare Winston to Sun Wukong, which got awkward once both got to meet the Monkey King himself. Winston was fanboying the moment he met him since he was reminded about the times his caretaker would read him the story of Journey to the West, and Wukong was certainly happy that Winston decided to pay homage to him when the Lunar New Year arrived.
  • Many deities from the DC universe initially confused Winston with Gorilla Grodd, but thankfully everything was cleared up before anyone was hurt. Superman especially values how idealistic and heroic Winston is.
  • Winston has no family ever since he abandoned the moon. Overwatch used to be like his surrogate family until it was shut down, making him feel alone for a couple years until he decided to recall all agents. Even then, Tracer and her girlfriend Emily do spend Christmas with Winston so he doesn't feel lonely.
  • It's heavily advised not to break his glasses since those are an important memento to him. If you do, you might trigger his Primal Rage; just ask Reaper.
  • Became very good friends with Tarzan when the two learned that they have very similar background; the two were raised by a different species who cared for them deeply, gorillas for Tarzan and humans for Winston, they have a desire to help and protect others, and they feel strongly of the importance of family regardless if they are related by blood.

  • Lesser God
  • Symbol: The Sacred Scrolls and the statue of the Lawgiver
  • Alignment: Lawful Neutral
  • Portfolio: Anti-Villain, Non-Action Big Bad, Fantastic Racism towards Humans Because he Thinks that they Ultimately Destroy any Environment they Settle in, Morally Ambiguous Doctorate, Will Destroy any Evidence Related to True History about Apes and Humans
  • Domains: Primates, Knowledge, Bigotry
  • Allies: Koba, Atriox, Iron Teeth
  • Enemies: Colonel McCollough, Rau le Creuset, Satellite of Love Crew (specifically Mike and the robots), Winston
  • Disapproves of: Donkey Kong and his DK Crew, King Louie
  • Foil to: Caesar
  • Additional Relations: Mojo Jojo, King Kong, The Houyhnhnms
  • Primates have become the dominant lifeform on Earth following the planet’s devastation and they have started their own civilization where Earth once stood. Doctor Zaius is one of the more notable figures in leading ape civilization thanks to his role as Minister of Science. Despite such a prestigious position, he has a hatred of humans as he believes that they are responsible for the destruction of any place they settle in, Earth included. He’s also the only ape who knows the truth about the history of apes and humans prior to Earth becoming a post-apocalyptic wasteland and he’s willing to do whatever it takes to prevent it from coming out for the sake of preventing ape civilization from self-destructing.
  • Zaius’ last moments was spent belittling his human nemesis George Taylor about human’s capacity for evil and destruction before the latter set off the Alpha-Omega Bomb, eradicating all life on Earth for good. While that particular Earth is gone, it wouldn’t be the last of Zaius as he woke up in a place that looked familiar to the primate civilization that he and the other apes oversaw, yet there was something that didn’t seem right about it. It was when Zaius saw some records that were sent his way that he learned that not only was the world around him thriving, but that humans have done plenty of feats far more advanced than what he previously thought was possible. It did little, if any, to change his perspective about human’s darker traits as he believed such accomplishments would only make humanity more arrogant and bring them close to destruction. For the time being, Zaius and his civilization of apes had their own corner in the wider world of the Pantheon and he had to be prepared for the greater resistance that would be directed towards his mentality and world.
  • When it comes to leading primate civilization towards prosperity, Caesar and Zaius couldn’t have been more different in their actions and mindset. Aside from Caesar being more inclined to step into action when threatened as opposed to Zaius relying more on his brains, Caesar has maintained an open mind towards humans despite being fully aware of the monstrous actions that they are capable of in contrast to Zaius’ open hatred and distrust towards them. Given the number of dangerous humans Caesar has encountered that have tried to kill him and his ape tribe such as Colonel Mccollough (who Zaius believes to be a prime example of not only the threats to ape civilization, but also of human’s capacity for hatred and destruction), the orangutan believes that Caesar isn’t doing enough for ape-kind while Caesar can’t accept Zaius’ bigotry and sees it as something that could disturb the peace among apes and humans if other primates were to spread around such a mindset. Koba was an ape who took a liking towards Zaius’ beliefs regarding primates and humans and Zaius has accepted him as part of his society, with Koba hoping to use it as a means to get revenge on Caesar.
  • While there are many humans that Zaius hates due to his mindset, he finds Mike Nelson from the Satellite of Love to be one of the most infuriating humans he’s heard about after finding out about one part of the latter’s misadventures. At one point, Mike and his robot companions found themselves in a planet ruled by apes and escaped after it was destroyed by a powerful bomb that Mike unwittingly helped the apes fix. Zaius didn’t care if the whole thing was an accident or not; the fact that a human was responsible for the destruction of an entire planet (and of the primate civilization that was there) only added more fuel to his belief that humans are evil and dangerous. That the civilization of apes that lived there was mostly dumb (including the initially semi-intelligent Bobo who became an idiot after following Mike and the robots around following Earth’s destruction) didn’t help, even if Zaius gained some knowledge that human stupidity can be just as bad as human intelligence.
  • There were many primates with intelligence comparable to that of humans that got the attention of Zaius and it was through research that he learned that there were plenty of primates that were far more extraordinary than anything he had seen beforehand. The Kong Krew had a lot of ingenuity in how they fought enemies through mixing together close-combat and unlikely weapons such as barrels and fruit-based guns, but Zaius feels that they’re not making the most of what they’re capable of and thinks that hanging out with humans too much is crippling their full potential. Despite also being an orangutan, King Louie was someone Zaius disliked significantly due to the former’s lazy attitude and willingness to use the Red Flower (another way of saying fire) to ensure dominance over others. Mojo Jojo was someone who Zaius could find a better understanding towards in regards to seeing problems with the world around them following the Kong Krew’s wariness of Zaius and King Louie mostly ignoring him. It’s not without a few hiccups along the way given Zaius’ dislike of chimpanzees (of which Mojo Jojo falls under) and one of Mojo Jojo’s plans involving super-intelligent apes led to them having their own global conquests, despite Zaius saying that he isn’t as violent as the ones Mojo Jojo previously used.
  • Opinions on humanity as a whole vary throughout the Pantheon, with Zaius being someone who believes in the worst of them and finding those who think humanity is capable of greatness and kindness to be missing the point of how selfish and destructive humans can truly be. Some humans such as Lemuel Gulliver have taken up a misanthropic mindset about their own kind thanks to bad experiences throughout their life, with Zaius finding them to be evidence of how humankind will bring about their eventual downfall due to corruption among other negative traits inherent in them. There were many non-human entities that see humans as nothing but vile creatures, with the Houyhnhnms (a group of horses that contributed to Gulliver being the misanthrope he is presently) being far more extreme in their hatred of humans and keeping order in their society than Zaius could ever be even at his worst. As much as Zaius can see his society of primates and the Houyhnhnms being similar in their hatred of humans, he has a feeling that his society of primates will never be accepted by those horses due to the latters’ borderline xenophobic behavior and that its for the best to keep some distance between his society and their own.
    • Despite the Pantheon being in a much more prosperous state than the post-apocalyptic Earth Zaius lived in, it wasn’t going to prevent large-scale conflict from happening that could potentially bring about its destruction. Zaius wasn’t the only entity in the Pantheon to have that mindset, as Rau le Creuset shared such a belief about humanity thanks to having witnessed numerous atrocities committed by them and being involved in a sprawling galactic war. The main difference was that Rau was actively trying to bring about humanity’s extinction and such a destructive nature was something Zaius could not tolerate even if Rau is right about humanity’s evil nature. That there were entities who shared the same goal as Rau regarding humanity only disgusted Zaius further and it gave him more of a reason to try and ensure that his primate society doesn’t head down a potential path of self-destruction.
  • Having a prominent position related to science didn’t mean that Zaius would have the approval of other scientists due to his history of performing experiments on humans that would leave them in a worse state than before. One scientist that was very critical towards Zaius’ beliefs of humankind was Winston, who happened to be another primate and saw his human workers murdered by other primates who resented Winston’s increased intelligence. Both are aware of the atrocities that occurred in their respective worlds, with Zaius believing that Winston’s endeavor is doomed to fail thanks to the destruction that can result and Winston retorting that it will only fail if nothing can be done to change things for the better. As much as his position of Minister of Science has given Zaius access to some unusual figures (with his alliance with Atriox allowing Zaius to understand Jiralhanae biology thanks to Koba playing a role in getting Atriox to understand Zaius), some figures such as Andross (who was also a primate scientist, but has primarily taken to appearing as a disembodied face) had ambitions far too risky to be put into action for Zaius to consider meeting with them.
  • Many settlements have been made in post-apocalyptic worlds and while some have managed to survive, others have been at war against each other or other post-apocalyptic civilizations that only added more evidence to Zaius’ beliefs about humanity’s capacity to destroy things they create. After a bit of shock upon learning that there were some post-apocalyptic worlds featuring different animals as the dominant species following humanity’s extinction and having adapted to such, Zaius decided to look further into these creatures. The Inklings and the Octolings, having come from a world where sea levels have risen significantly, were evolved sea creatures made of ink and can take on humanoid forms. This intrigued Zaius enough to try and study them, a task that became more difficult than he anticipated given their abilities and general chaotic disposition. While there is a bit of hostility between him and those inky sea creatures, Zaius had better luck examining a pair of beaver groups who have built their own kinds of civilization after humanity’s extinction. Between the rural Folktails and the industrial Iron Teeth, Zaius found himself more inclined to get along with the Iron Teeth since they’re just as critical of humanity’s mistakes as he is.
  • If the debacle regarding Mike and the robots (who spend most of their time watching bad movies) is any indication, it’s that Zaius sees no value in recreational entertainment. While Zaius’ story is a movie in and of itself, the Pantheon made the whole ape civilization thing a reality alongside other strange facets of different worlds. One individual who tackled a rather unorthodox approach to Planet of the Apes was actor Troy Mcclure, who people may know him for starring in Stop the Planet of the Apes I Want to Get Off, a musical version of the aforementioned film. Zaius finds it baffling that someone would create a ridiculous song about him in an equally bizarre retelling, but he otherwise still finds Troy Mcclure to be just another human not worth any value of any sort.
  • George Taylor was one of the more notable visitors to the Planet of the Apes, but there were some more unorthodox visitors that ended up there, with Zaius having some sort of involvement during these incidents. A hunt for Taylor would lead to the discovery of a Kong and a subsequent expedition on Skull Island. Since that adventure, Zaius maintains a level of interest in King Kong, but has a hard time understanding why Kong would become something of a protector towards humanity if they have given him a hard time back then (and still continue to do so to some extent in the present day). Things were much more hectic when the Green Lanterns followed Sinestro into the Planet of the Apes, with Zaius finding himself involved with Sinestro and bearing witness to Gorilla Grodd’s attempt at conquering Ape City. While Grodd remains a primate of interest for Zaius, learning that the Planet of the Apes universe was regarded to be little more than an Expendable Alternate Universe was something that offended Zaius. Tarzan was one of the more interesting visitors to the Planet of the Apes as he happened to be the adopted son of Cornelius and Zira, two primates who Zaius is familiar with and while Zaius and Tarzan didn’t meet each other much during that instance, the two disagree on the possibility of apes and humans coexisting peacefully with each other. While a human being raised by animals similar to Tarzan was interesting to Zaius, he remains wary of them since they seem to have more awareness than the humans (other than Taylor) Zaius imprisoned that could pose a risk to him.
