Kobeni just made roadkill out of our titular hero.

Chainsaw Man, as deeply horrific and gory as it is, manages to be downright hysterical with its liberal usage of Black Comedy and surreal humor.

    Part 1
  • Two of the Devils that Denji and Pochita kill in the first chapter are the Tomato Devil and a small devil which the Animation Guide Book names the Marshmallow Devil. Since Devils are formed from humanity's fears, it means there's at least one poor guy with the absurdly lame phobia of tomatoes/marshmallows.
  • After Denji joined the Public Safety Bureau Aki gets disgusted by his antics and beats him up. Denji retaliates and mostly targets Aki's balls. Once they return, battered and bruised, to Makima, Denji tells her that Aki got attacked by a "Testicle Devil" which Aki flatly calls out as a lie.
    • Aki getting kicked in the nuts was funny enough in the manga. The anime upgrades it to hysterical when a bell rings on two separate instances as Denji nutshots him.
    • In the English dub, Denji goes out of his way to call Aki "numbnuts" after his response to Aki's insult. Ryan Colt Levy's delivery of the line is just downright beautiful.
    • Also in the dub, Denji's lie is written as:
Denji: A Testicle Devil appeared and went apeshit on his nutsack, ma'am!
  • Denji says that he wants to hug Makima again after she hugged him in the first chapter. Aki yells out a Big "WHAT?!" when he hears this, having mistaken "hug" with "to have sex"note .
  • Denji getting settled in Aki's apartment is a goldmine.
    • He puts on a variety of jams, butter, and honey on a piece of toast, making a mess of the living room table. Aki is throughly disgusted.
    • Denji is singing a song about the benefits of being a Devil hunter while banging on the tub. Aki is thoroughly annoyed by how long he's been in there.
    • When Denji is on the toilet, he actually falls asleep on it, causing Aki to berate him. In the anime, when Denji finally gets out of the bathroom, Aki is faced with an empty toilet paper roll. His face screams Tranquil Fury.
  • Denji reveals after Aki exits the apartment that he cut off the Fiend's head simply because he didn't want to get blood on a bunch of porn magazines he found on the side.
  • When Denji comes to the conclusion that he'll have "wanting to touch boobs" as his life goal, he yells out "MELONS!" much to Makima and Aki's confusion. All of this implies that he'd been so lost in his train of thought about his ambitions that he had randomly yelled it out in the middle of a conversation he completely didn't notice he was part of.
    Makima: As in the fruit?
  • Power explains how her pet cat Meowy had been abducted and is still looking for her, clearly attempting goad sympathy out of Denji. Denji is understandably incredulous due to the rather awful first impression he's had with her... then Power offers to let Denji touch her boobs as a reward. Cue Denji passionately ranting about how the Devil who kidnapped Meowy is an unforgivable monster that deserves to be killed.
  • Denji, clinging onto the Bat Devil to save Power and Meowy, has this heroic declaration to bellow out:
    • Denji's internal monologue shows that he does indeed sympathize with Power losing her cat before her eyes and is part of what motivates him to save her. But as far as anyone outside his mind knows, he's just ranting about how he wants to cop a feel.
Bat Devil: You let a perfectly good snack escape!? What kind of Devil would do something like that!?
Denji: The kind that'll slice into your gut! So I can touch ME some boobs!
  • Power, freed from the Bat Devil's stomach along with her cat, asks Denji why he saved her. Not one for sentimentality, he points towards her chest and makes a grabbing motion. Her tired face says it all.
    Power: What a foolish reason...
    • Nonetheless, Power apologizes for trying to kill him and gives him permission to touch her chest. Denji goes from surprised, to ecstatic, and then to immense pain when the Leech Devil shows while he's fist pumping the air and blows his arm off.
Denji: AWWWW YEAAAAAAAAA-(Gets his hand blown off)-AAAAOWWWWWW!!
    • This commentary from Power while Denji is fighting the Leech
Power: Would he really fight a devil like this merely to touch some breasts...?
  • Denji goes on a rant when even the Leech Devil mocks his dream.
Denji: You aaaaalll gotta talk smack about what I want, huh!? It's "revenge" this, "protect my family" that, "save my stupid kitty!" Blah blah blah! Think your big, fancy-ass goals make all of you hot shit!!? THEN PROVE IT!! We'll have a dream battle royale right now! If I murderize you this will be settled! TOUCHING TITTIES WILL BE THE BADDEST DREAAAAM!!!
  • Power's deep hatred for humans which shows itself in such evil deeds like stealing food and neither bathing nor flushing the toilet. Denji and Aki are naturally very disgusted by this.
Power: I'm the type who seldom flushes my faeces.
    Aki: Not in this house!
  • The pure existential crisis Denji goes through after being disappointed by his first time feeling boobs.
    • Makima later notices his melancholy and asks what's wrong. Denji has a big speech about how Wanting Is Better Than Having, noticeably avoiding having to actually explain that he's talking about being let down by his first time groping breasts. After a Beat, Makima asks what the hell he's talking about.
  • Denji and Power are acting up after Aki orders them to behave. Two offerings of sticks of gum later:
    Denji: ...Hayakawa, sir...
    Power: My liege...
    Aki: Better.
Denji: Sweetness! Dude, he's so easy...
    Power: Huzzah! Mine!
  • Realizing the situation with the eighth floor, Aki recaps that it's become an eternal loop, and he and the others could very well be indefinitely trapped without any ways to call for help. Denji takes it as a good reason as any to take a quick nap until they figure out if they really are doomed or not.
  • Himeno tells Denji about how everyone seems to be suffering from intense cabin fever on the eighth floor and are losing their minds. Denji points out that Power is acting normally when she rants about how her coming up with an invention that'll win her the Nobel Prize will lead to her becoming Prime Minister.
Power: I'm thinking of ways to win the Nobel Prize in order to battle my boredom! For once I have earned such glorious esteem, all you humans will kowtow to me. I'll then make a stepping stone of that gilded coin and snatch the Prime Minister's throne! What better way to ensure the suffering of lowly mortals? And my first act shall be to implement a hundred percent sales tax!
Denji: [Beat] Nah, she's always like that.
    Himeno: Ah. Then no worries.
    • Apparently Kobeni got so freaked out, she almost started drinking from the toilet bowl. Himeno had to understandably knock her out.
    • Kobeni has a Freak Out while the team is trapped by the Eternity Devil and starts accusing Power of being the one trapping them. When Arai tells her that Power couldn't do that since she's a Blood fiend, Kobeni accuses him of being a spy for Power based on absolutely nothing. She ends up charging him with a knife, screaming like a madwoman at the incredibly confused and scared Arai. The next scene has the two of them knocked out.
Kobeni: I KNOW WHAT YOU AREEEEEEE!!!
    • Power casually says that Kobeni is incorrect... but doesn't even bother defending Arai.
  • When Kobeni tries to kill Denji, he and everyone else just have a look of pure indifference rather than anger or shock.
  • The Eternity Devil offers a contract with the Devil Hunters to let them leave the hotel if they sacrifice Denji to it. Power happily declares she's on "Team Kill Denji" so she can escape the hotel and win her Nobel Prize, encouraging Denji to die for her dream. Aki then tells her that the Eternity Devil is under no obligation to honor contracts made with fiends. Power sighs and rests her head on Denji's shoulder.
Power: [Beat] Shall we wrestle to cure our boredom?
Denji: I'm not wrestling the captain of Team Kill Denji!
  • A flashback showed that Aki told Himeno that he was only going to smoke one time. One panel later, and we see Aki immediately ask Himeno for a cigarette.
  • Denji is preparing himself to kiss Himeno, only for Makima to conveniently drop by the drinking party at the second Himeno was about to kiss him. When Makima asks if he was going to kiss somebody, he denies with gusto. When Himeno asks him if he's not going to kiss her, he says that he is absolutely going to, with the exact same energy.
Makima: Denji, are you going to kiss somebody?
    Denji: Aw, hell no!
Himeno: What a shame. You don't wanna kiss me anymore?
    Denji: Hell yeah!
  • The infamous "vomit kiss" scene, in which Himeno finally gives Denji his long-awaited French kiss in what should be a very fanservice-y moment… before a very drunk Himeno promptly throws up in Denji's mouth. And then he actually swallows it.
    • The rest of Public Safety's reaction. Power and another female agent are laughing hysterically, one says "that's gonna leave some trauma", and Makima casually asks for rag from the staff.
    • This is immediately followed by a flashback of Denji and Pochita mocking a rat for eating vomit, with Denji saying that it's a line that no mammal would never cross. This is followed up by Denji throwing up in the restroom toilet with Arai helping out.
  • After Kobeni Double Taps Samurai Sword, Sawatari drags him into their getaway vehicle, her most immediate concern being that he'll be too heavy to move around before reviving.
    Sawatari: Die inside the van!
  • Power's idea of reviving Denji from brain damage caused by Kishibe murdering them over and over is to repeatedly beat his head in until he comes back. It works.
Power: Has your feeble brain been broken again!? Heal! Heal! Heal! Heal! Heal! Heal!
  • Frustrated with Kishibe repeatedly wiping the floor with them during their Training from Hell, Denji and Power decide to take him down with some impressively clever plan, "like one of those smart character from a manga". When executing the plan, they actually wear glasses for no other reason than to look like "super-geniuses".
  • The sheer dissonance between the Future Devil's menacing appearance and his goofy personality is simply astounding.
Future Devil (while dancing): The future rules! The future rules!
  • While on their way to capture Katana Man, Denji and Power stop on a floor full of zombies. Denji opts to ignore them since the zombies didn't notice their presence. But Power...
    • Power then starts slaughtering the zombie horde in a frenzy while spouting heroic-sounding boasts. And throughout the whole sequence she thinks that Denji is watching her back, not noticing at all that he stayed on the elevator. His face reading "what an idiot" to boot.
  • What Denji says to bait Katana Man into getting sliced in half is hilarious. That and the whole scene is a Shout-Out to Monty Python and the Holy Grail.
Chainsaw Man: (After losing both of his arms) Who says I can't still fight...? The chainsaw on my head IS ALL I NEED TO END THIS!
    Katana Man: MORON!
  • Having the Katana Man at their mercy, Denji and Aki finally bond over having a ball-kicking contest with him as their target.
    • A bit of Fridge hilarity, but Denji vertically sliced Katana Man's fiend form in two groin-to-stern with an upwards kick using a chainsaw sprouting from his leg, meaning he actually defeated him with a chainsaw-powered Groin Attack!
  • Denji and Beam's first meeting starts with the latter jumping out to hug him and the former punching him in the face. Followed by him asking Makima who he is.
  • Feeling happy about his date with Makima, Denji generously donates to a charity for helping victims of Devil attacks and receives a flower as a reward for his contribution. He promptly eats the flower, leaving the charity volunteer in complete Stunned Silence.
  • While in conflict between his romantic interests in both Reze and Makima, Denji makes a list of the other women (and Angel, who Denji heard is a dude) in Public Safety just to shoot down any interest he has in them. All of whom are illustrated in white lingerie (including Angel).
  • Reze actually calls for a time-out during the fight, using the reason that she's practically naked and anemic from all of the fighting. Violence comments that she does have a point and asks Aki if they should give her a break. Aki responds with a flat "no".
  • Beam tells Denji and Angel that the Chainsaw Devil often used his chains to travel. This gives Denji the bright idea to use his chains in an... unconventional way; namely by using Beam as a horse to fight Reze and Typhoon. Angel and Beam immediately say he's wrong, but Denji goes along with it anyway (Beam loses the heart to correct "Lord Chainsaw" and just agrees). It somehow works against all odds. More than a few fans admitted to hearing the William Tell Overture playing in their heads at this point, which just fits perfectly into how absurd and awesome Denji's plan is simultaneously.
  • While Denji sits in the hope that Reze will join him at the cafe, she proves to be a no-show; cue Power entering, bellowing her own name and demanding the flowers Denji bought for Reze. He responds by eating the flowers.
  • Denji tries to get Power to eat her vegetables by shoving a burger in her face. Unfortunately, a small taste causes Power to begin getting sick and she begs Denji to eat her vomit. Remembering how it was last time, Denji refuses... but suggests a ten thousand yen payment for him to agree to it.note
  • Kobeni remembers a time when she ate ice cream as a kid; she made her parents buy her one and got so excited by the first taste that she broke into a run... and promptly tripped and dropped it. As if there needs to be any more proof that Kobeni is and always has been hated by the universe and is always fated for pain.
  • Power accidentally and fatally runs over Denji and an assassin disguised as one of the agents he had killed when she gets behind the wheel of Kobeni's car. Everyone is horrified... and Power immediately blames Kobeni for what happened.
    Kobeni: Y-y...m...muh...
    [Power pauses to collect herself]
Power: 'Tis your car. This isn't my fault!
    Kobeni: [Face Fault] Y-y-y—
Power: Are you trying to shift the blame onto me...?! You murderer!! (Slams the car door shut)
    • Then the glamour on the assassin wears off, at which point Power takes credit for it and hugs the crippled Denji, who is screaming bloody murder in pain as Power declares that she avenged him. Meanwhile, the onlooking civilians (and Kobeni) are all horrified.
    • The setup of the scene is particularly hilarious. Having built up to this character and his two brothers, we're expecting to see someone see through their disguises or so. Everyone had just met, and then Power proceeds to shock everyone by doing such a thing out of nowhere. Bonus, his two brothers are in the crowd also horrified.
  • The aforementioned trio of American assassin siblings are a great source of humor and Black Comedy, willingly or not.
    • The eldest brother is convinced that they're immortal because not only did the three of them survive the Gun Devil's attack, they also lived after being swallowed by a Devil, their house caught on fire and they got food poisoning.
    • Aldo, the youngest, is the Token Good Teammate who still does his best to fall in line with his sociopathic brothers' desires. After they execute Bureau agents, we're treated to the following exchange:
Unnamed brother: Aldo. It's the first time you've killed a person, right? How do you feel?
Aldo (visibly distraught and sweating): It's a piece of cake... Piece of cake...
[Aldo's sweating increases and his expression falls further. Cue the next shot being him in the middle of a Stress Vomit while his brothers look at each other with an unimpressed expression]
    • Aldo has to carry the bodies away from the car with Joey while their brother is keeping watch. He's seen holding Kurose under the arms... causing the corpse's head to get thrown back and stare right at him the whole time. Aldo understandably looks disturbed.
    • Joey pulling a Bait-and-Switch by comparing the way he feels after killing people to accidentally stepping on a kitten in the road, as in the "stupid thing made a mess of [his] shoes". His big brother finds it hilarious.
    • Aldo getting thrown out the window by Quanxi and landing on the same car that killed his brother, totalling it.
    • Kishibe, who also got thrown out of the window and landed on said car, casually got up with only a light "ow". Aldo, who falls on it immediately afterwards, is in so much more pain.
  • Quanxi throws Kishibe out the window because it was nearby when they fought, but clearly goes out of her way to do the same to Aldo and Hirofumi—either out of coincidence, to intimidate her other opponents or just for her own amusement. (Made funnier in hindsight by how this indirectly saved all of them from the trip to hell.)
Quanxi: (staring at Aki and other Public Safety agents as they arrive) You guys next?
    • That car that got completely destroyed by having three people in a row fall out of a window and land on it? It belonged to Kobeni, who sees the wreck that is now her car from out the building's window.
  • Denji lights himself on fire, screaming it's the power of light, to fight the Darkness-empowered Doll Devil. Soon enough, most of Denji's subsequent dialogue is him yelling about how hot it is now that he's aflame.
Doll Devil: Even after deepening my wisdom with the power of Darkness... I can't comprehend the behavior of fools.
Chainsaw Man: Hooooot! Hey, I ain't no fool! I watch educational TV every day!!
  • In the middle of Denji gloating over the burning Doll Woman, Quanxi casually cuts his head off without warning. Then declares that their truce to be over right after.
  • Denji and Power decide to repay Aki for housing them by cooking him dinner for a change. The resulting dish is a pile of... something that causes Aki to puke as soon as he tries but a small nibble.
Power (completely undeterred by Aki's reaction): 'Tis a complete catastrophe!
Denji (also completely undeterred by Aki's reaction): Now we've all barfed!
    Aki: *clearly dying*
  • The extra chapter revealing some bits about Kishibe and Quanxi's history. It's just a Vicious Cycle of a young Kishibe flirting with Quanxi before she smacks him across the face.
  • Pochita's chainsaw dog form, while amusing in of itself due to how cutesy and ridiculous it looks, becomes sidesplitting when it's revealed that he is "The Devil That All Devils Fear".
  • After quitting Public Safety a few chapters back, Kobeni returns in Chapter 85 working as a Burger Fool. Hilarity Ensues:
    • It turns out that this job is far more stressful and abusive than the literal life-threatening Devil Hunting job Kobeni had somehow, with her boss attempting a little Behavioral Conditioning on her by slapping her every time she went "ah". Guess what the employees all end up saying when the Chainsaw Man (Pochita in his true form) shows up in their restaurant.
    • The Chainsaw Man demands a hamburger, causing all the employees to start quickly making a meal for him and do their routine song and dance. Chainsaw Man appears to be dancing along as he waits for his food.
      • Part of said routine song and dance consists of the employees listing the components of the hamburger in sequence. The ones for "lettuce" and for "beef" are decapitated along the way. The remaining employees continue their routine anyway, and when it's a decapitated employee's turn, the manga shows a panel of that employee's dead head on the floor instead. Chainsaw Man's Black Comedy at its finest.
    • Kobeni trips bringing him his food, splashing it on him. Twice.
      • Her co-worker screaming at the inelegantly blubbering Kobeni they're all going to die because of her, right before he's comically decapitated.
      • The Family Burger mascot yells "Call the Devil Hun-" before Chainsaw Man chops off their head, with the silly burger mascot head still on it.
      • Chainsaw Man orders a hamburger, but being The Unintelligible, it comes across as him ordering a "VAM! VAAVAAA!".
      • Kobeni's manager goes mad, thinking there's no way Kobeni could screw things up this badly, and that this is All Just a Prank made for television, screaming for the filming crew to reveal themselves right before he's beheaded.
    • The second time she tripped, she puts the pieces of the burger back together from the floor and from Chainsaw Man's body. Chainsaw Man eats it anyway and enjoys it.
    • The chapter just ends with Kobeni crying on the floor.
  • The first half of Chapter 86 continues with Chainsaw Man going on a date with poor Kobeni.
    • Kobeni's Big "WHY?!" as Chainsaw Man kidnaps her to go on said date.
    • While going for ice cream, Chainsaw Man destroys the van.
    • An agent appears and intends to fight Chainsaw Man. Cue the next panel showing the man's corpse.
    • Kobeni being forced to dance. In DanceDanceRevolution. At one point she appears to break dance...all while sobbing her eyes out.
    • The end of the scene heavily implies that Chainsaw Man quickly grew bored and left Kobeni by herself to frantically dance alone next to the agent's decapitated corpse.
  • In a few minutes, Chainsaw Man had already butchered three of Makima's resurrected and brainwashed hybrids. Her response?
Makima (completely deadpan): "Okay! This looks unwinnable."
  • Chapter 88 has Makima and the rest of hybrids getting the shit beaten out of them by Chainsaw Man. The hybrids are either panicking or in pain, but Makima just has the most excited expression, not giving a damn about herself being torn to shreds.
  • Chapter 89 opens up revealing that Kobeni had been dancing for three chapters straight, and had been at it for so long that she's even forgotten why she was doing it to begin with. In fact, she only stopped when she got a perfect score.
  • While fighting with Pochita, Makima drops this one-liner.
  • Chapter 90 ends with Pochita's Face Fault expression when Power hands over Chainsaw Man to Makima.
    Pochita: No way!
  • Chapter 96 opens with a subtle but funny moment where after an exhausting and bloody fight with Denji, Makima has a smoke...but clearly either hasn't smoked before or done it that much and coughs up a lung after one puff.
  • Chapter 97 opens with a page full of all the dishes Denji cooked with Makima's body parts. Including a plate full of hair.
    • While it didn't happen, Denji was afraid Makima would regenerate in his stomach or in the toilet...

    Part 2
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/6659f233_9e52_4482_861f_de86ec96643e.jpeg
Yoru has no clue what's happening. Denji knows even less.

Chapter 98

  • Part 2 starts by introducing the Chicken Devil, who is extremely weak because of a lack of fear of chickens but is fully capable of speech and makes chicken puns. Also its name is Bucky.
  • While it can be a tearjerker, Bucky's death is so abrupt and unceremonious (they get accidentally crushed to death by Asa just as she finally tries to make friends at their encouragement) that it swings it back to Black Comedy in true Fujimoto fashion.
  • Also in chapter 98, the War Devil pulls Tanaka's head and spine out and forms it into a sword. This is gruesome, but leads directly into a testament to Fujimoto and War's own twisted sense of humor; the final blow before exploding the Class President is stabbing her in such a way that Tanaka's still-present head ends up kissing the Class President.
  • The War Devil is one of the Four Horsemen and among the most powerful Devils to exist, and you’d expect her appearance to be at least somewhat imposing. So what does she look like when revealing herself to Asa? A fucking Potoo.

Chapter 99

  • Fujimoto taunts the readers with the morning news:
    • Asa's response to meeting War Devil is to pinch her left cheek. War makes it clear that she's not having a dream, and tells her to go eat breakfast and go to school or die.
Asa: [Beat] (Pinches both of her cheeks)
War: I told you this is no dream, idiot!
    • Yoshida is back, and the War Devil tries to seduce him:
  • The chapter ends with Asa joining the Devil Hunter Club in hopes of finding Denji... only to discover that Yoshida had also joined, and is being grouped in the same squad as her, and she turns away blushing madly because of what War had pulled earlier.

Chapter 101

Chapter 102

Chapter 103

  • The chapter begins with a bunch of talking head interviews where various people give their opinions on Chainsaw Man. Hilarity Ensues when Denji turns out to be the last one interviewed and gives some... biased takes.
    • One old lady opines that Chainsaw Man only saved the cat so he could eat it. Denji reacts with a complete "what the hell" expression.
Denji:...If you ask me, Chainsaw Man hasn't eaten that cat!
    • One girl happens to be a fangirl. Denji expectedly tries to give out his phone number to her and any prospective girlfriends on live television but gets cut off by the reporters.
    • Denji smugly taking in all the adoration of the crowd chanting "Chainsaw Man!"
  • Yoshida tries to make Denji behave by confiscating all the cutlery he'd use to eat the cake he ordered. Denji promptly begins to devour the cake with his bare hands.
    • Turns out Denji wants his secret identity exposed because of Chainsaw Man's popularity. In his own words, once he's exposed, the ladies will be all over him. Yoshida is simply at a severe loss for words upon hearing this.

Chapter 104

  • The first thing we see is Yoru having a temper tantrum over getting saved by Chainsaw Man... while Asa, who is visualized as if she's lying right next to Yoru, tells her to calm down so she can sleep. Funnier still is that Yoru wears whatever Asa has on, so she's doing this in pajamas.
  • We see what is apparently Denji's daily life at school, aka getting paid by girls to be a chair to be sat on. Yoshida later does the same to get Denji to behave and admits that sitting on him is surprisingly comfortable.
    • In order to get Denji to stop trying to reveal his identity to the world, Yoshida agrees to help him get a girlfriend. He asks what Denji's type in women is, and he responds, "Girls who are desperate for a boyfriend." Yoshida ponders this for a moment...Smash Cut to the roof, where Yoshida is attempting to set Denji up with Asa.
      • The implication that Yoru/War's failed attempt at flirting with Yoshida caused him to think she was as desperate for love as Denji. Asa just can't catch a break.
  • Denji and Asa do not get off on the right foot, as her dislike of Chainsaw Man leads to Denji desperately trying to defend himself in the third person. Topics brought up include Chainsaw Man eating the cats and dogs he saves and, being a Devil, it stands to reason that he also eats people.
    Denji: Eat people?! No way!
    [Beat]
Denji: Okay, even if he did, it was just the one time!
    • Asa eventually assumes that Denji is just a really big fanboy of Chainsaw Man. A very frustrated Denji finally snaps and reveals that he's Chainsaw Man himself. Cue... Asa staring blankly at Denji and calling him a loser before leaving. Again, the implication makes this moment even funnier, as apparently Yoru also has no idea that the idiot high-school boy in front of her is the same devil she's actively trying to hunt down and kill.
  • Throughout the whole chapter, Denji is wearing a Chainsaw Man shirt.

Chapter 105

Chapter 107

Chapter 108

  • Yuko's response to Asa calling her out for murder is as demented as it is funny;
Asa: You… you killed a bunch of people!
Yuko: Not that many! Only three or four!
  • In an effort to fight Yuko herself, Asa asks Yoru how to make weapons using her powers, and Yoru tells her to touch something belonging to her and call its name. Asa decides to do this with her school uniform and successfully turns it into a sword - which results in Asa spending the rest of the chapter in only her underwear. This even renders Yoru half-naked, despite her just being a hallucination!
    • Yoru instantly knew what Asa wanted to turn into a weapon.
Yoru: I doubt that would make a strong weapon.
    • When Asa tries to attack Yuko, the girl casually knocks her sword away before trying to leave - and then gets diced into a hundred pieces, splattering a shocked Asa with blood. Even Yoru is surprised that Asa could pull such a thing off, while Asa replies that she has no idea how she did it.
Yoru: (Yuko knocks the sword away) Weak!
Yoru: (Yuko falls to pieces) Strong?!
    • "Yuko! Are you dying?!" Asa says to a decapitated head.

Chapter 109

Chapter 110

Chapter 111

  • While talking behind the door, Yuko speculatively says she might be hungry for human flesh. The instant Yuko lays eyes on Asa, she awkwardly realizes she really is.
Asa: Well? Do you want to eat me?
Yuko: Ah... err... ohhh gosh. A little bit.
    Asa: Holy crap.
  • Yuko tries to resist by just looking away from Asa. As their conversation continues, Asa is alarmed, seemingly by Yuko's words. Then Yuko turns around and realizes one her tentacles is strangling Asa.

Chapter 112

  • No longer working for the government and forbidden from taking part time jobs by his new school, one of Denji's side hustles involves laboriously cleaning the streets of used cigarettes, rewrapping the remains with fresh paper, and then selling them to homeless people at a competitive premium.
    • Fans have not missed the opportunity to mock Kishibe for basically foisting the struggles of being a single father onto Denji without financial support. As well as caring for 7 dogs. And a cat.
  • Asa (Smiling in disbelief to herself) asks Denji out on a date, in order to turn Denji into a weapon. And Denji being Denji accepts.
    • To summarize, Asa is, unwittingly, trying to make Chainsaw Man into a weapon to kill Chainsaw Man. The Dramatic Irony is getting ridiculous at this point. Furthermore, this makes it another time that a woman has gone onto a date with Denji in hopes of killing him — in fact, literally every woman he's had a close relationship with has tried to kill Denji at least once. Perhaps he should be considering if he's part of the problem at this point.

Chapter 113

  • Yoru questions Asa if she's really capable of seducing Denji to kill and turn him into a weapon, and Asa assures her that it would be a piece of cake. On the date proper though, Asa's master plan to get Denji to fall for her is to... rattle off barrages of facts about marine life at the aquarium, for up to half an hour at a time, while forcing Denji to stay and listen when he just wants to look at the penguins instead. Even Yoru, who specifically kept Asa alive because of her own lack of social skills, calls her out on it after Denji gets fed up and leaves to go look at the penguins on his own.
Yoru: Could it be that you're... a total bore?
    • The manga also frames this with a large panel as if it were a huge reveal, making Asa's reaction to being told that she's boring all the funnier. The manga also uses huge speech bubbles for Asa's ramblings that are conspicuously between her and Denji, highlighting how it's seriously preventing him from getting interested in her.
    • Asa, for her part, genuinely can't understand that she's getting something wrong, furiously biting her lip when Yoru says she's boring and claiming that she and Denji were the real bores for not being interested in her facts. Yoru can't care any less and just tells her to go after Denji.
    • While Denji thinking for himself and leaving Asa to do what he wants instead is a nice show of some of his Character Development compared to Part 1, it's still impressive that Asa was so boring that Denji lost interest.
  • While the Famine Devil revealing herself is serious and even makes Yoru panic, there's something silly about how the Devil tells Asa to call her Fami (Kiga-chan in Japanese, which means both "Famine-chan" but also "Penguin-chan").
    • The fact that these are Devils we're talking about makes the situation dire, but on the other hand, this scene where Fami shuts out Yoru so Asa and Denji are by themselves can come across as Fami dragging Yoru off by the ear to leave two lovebirds alone.
  • Denji's reaction to realizing he's been caught in the Eternity Devil's powers again?

Chapter 114

Chapter 115

  • Haruka apparently turns out to not be the Fake Chainsaw Man. He's just a massive fanboy/president of the Chainsaw Man Society's high school chapter. And he surgically implanted a chainsaw cord into his chest. This revelation temporarily knocks Asa out of her depression and she reacts in the same way the audience probably did.
    Asa: ...Uh, what?
    • Among his list of 'accomplishments', Haruka mentions that he only got second place in a Chainsaw Man trivia contest.
    • After that, Haruka transitions from confident laughter in not being Chainsaw Man to loudly bawling for the real thing to come save him. Yoshida tells Denji that's his cue to do something.
    • The other Devil Hunter club members start losing their minds the same way Kobeni and Arai did during Part 1. Seigi is doing some shadowboxing and the Kobeni-lookalike is licking the glass of one of the exhibits.

Chapter 116

  • The second panel of the chapter features the Kobeni-lookalike still licking the glass of an exhibit, and it happens to be the one which Asa and Denji are sitting in collecting starfish to eat, with neither of them caring about him at all. Afterward, Denji boasts about swiping the lighter from "that glass-licker".
  • Part of Asa's grand plan to bust everyone out of the aquarium is to steal every yen she and Denji can find, resulting in them running around the unending corridors robbing the place blind. By the end of it, the pair collect 1 million yen.
    • When Asa asks Denji for the all the money they found, Denji understandably refuses. When Asa then tells Denji she'll grant him any request he asks of her, he immediately backpedals. Guess some old habits die hard.
  • While it is how her and Yoru's Semantic Superpower works and Asa herself believes there's an element of Insane Troll Logic, it's genuinely absurd how Asa exerts "ownership" over the aquarium by "buying" it with the 1 million yen she and Denji stole.

Chapter 117

  • The chapter opens with Denji mentally kicking himself for immediately doing what Asa told him to do in the previous chapter. While he has sworn off mindless obedience as a result of his Character Development from Part 1, old habits die hard and Denji can't resist thinking about Asa's offer to do anything he asks of her. His internal conflict gets interrupted, however, when a penguin appears in front of him out of nowhere, and after a priceless look of surprise, he immediately holds it up in joy. Denji is so busy coddling the bird that he doesn't even acknowledge being freed from the Eternity Devil's trap or notice Yoru brutally curbstomping it. And later, when the authorities arrive, he has to watch in sorrow as the penguin gets taken away.
  • Not only is the Eternity Devil pissed that Asa's gambit actually worked in of itself, it also lampshades how utterly dumb it is that it did. The fact that this otherworldly abomination understands human prices is hilarious enough, just seeing it yell this is great;

Chapter 118

  • The previous chapter had ended on a frightening Cliffhanger of Yoru about to turn Denji into a weapon, making readers panic in the week between chapters. The end result is… nothing. Denji can't be turned into a weapon. Yoru tries it three more times, with both of them staring at each other in utter bafflement, and then Denji repeats the invocation back to her because he thinks it's Asa's (weird) way of saying goodbye.
  • Yoru going to sleep by falling face down on Asa's bed with a WHUMP.
  • While Asa is at first somewhat saddened that Denji didn't really love her, she then suddenly gets mad since after miraculously escaping death at a Devil's hands and spending enough quality time together that she developed feelings for him, the boy didn't reciprocate. She's left lying on her bed, once again biting her lip in rage. Essentially, Asa gets mad that Denji didn't die after all, and becomes pissed at him for literally nothing he did, ignoring how if it had worked, she'd have been horrified and traumatised instead. Her self-defeating mentality is worth a chuckle for how much Asa keeps managing to ignore the silver lining in her situations.
Asa: He said those things... But he doesn't like me... Excuse me? Even after all that... He doesn't like me!? Unbelievable! He's so irritating! I hate him!!
    • Note that we get a full collage of Asa thinking about his smile from different angles right next to her thinking about how much she hates him. Uh-huh. Sure you do, Asa.
  • Asa getting prickly with Denji the next day, shutting down his plan to go to the theater and then roping him into letting her visit his house. The poor boy groans and holds his head as he grapples with the idea of letting Asa come over, which he and the audience know is a bad idea since Nayuta lives there too. And against his better judgement, he winds up agreeing.
    • While Denji is being completely serious when telling Asa that not following the house rules could kill her, Asa clearly doesn't get it, raising her eyebrow in an expression of genuine confusion. And then it's shown Haruka is spying on them, and he's just as confused.

Chapter 119

  • The rules that Asa is not allowed to break are simple yet inherently ridiculous. The first two rules ("do not open the door to any apartment but Denji's" and "don't open the fridge") are strange for someone who lives there, but Asa points out they're basic common sense and courtesy for a house guest. The third rule? "No making out with Denji in front of Nayuta." The funniest part is that Asa is borderline offended by the notion, leaving Denji genuinely confused. When Asa tells him that she straight up hates him, Denji wonders if it's because he stinks.
    • While Asa trying to dissuade Denji from liking her is quite sad, Denji goes on a somewhat comical tangent in his thoughts by wondering what he did wrong, wondering if he screwed up by feeding her starfish and worrying if she disliked him because he supposedly smelled like wet dog. Last time Denji heard he smelled like wet dog, he assumed it was a compliment. Then he wonders if he should stop sleeping with the dogs, but insists that's impossible because dogs don't stink.
  • A closer inspection of Denji and Nayuta's home has a chart on the wall where the two seemingly tally their farts each month. Denji leads 43-23.
    • Considering that part of Denji's goals in raising Nayuta is to keep her humble so her Control Devil powers don't go out of control, it's pretty funny to think that this is something he thought up in order to keep her in her place; Denji asserts dominance over Nayuta by challenging her to a farting contest and is winning every month so far.
  • Immediately after Asa tells Denji she hates him, Yoru takes over her body and kisses him. Even funnier? Denji is either too confused to react or just accepts it at face value, taking it for granted that Asa really is that two-faced.
    • Asa's fear of hurting Denji by turning him into a weapon leads to Yoru forcefully taking over her body and planting a Forceful Kiss on Denji. The only reason she and Asa are sharing a body is so she can find and kill Pochita, so imagine how Yoru's going to respond when she learns that she just kissed Chainsaw Man. And Asa tried to stop her.
    • Something must be said for Denji now being three for three on all his kisses immediately being followed with something going horribly wrong, with Himeno barfing in his mouth, Reze biting his tongue off, and now Yoru getting a chain through Asa's head courtesy of Nayuta.
    • If you look closely at Denji's mouth when Yoru kisses him, you might notice his mouth is closed, which makes sense when you remember his how poorly his last two kisses went due to his open mouth. The poor boy has clearly learned his lesson and is not taking any chances when it comes to women kissing him unexpectedly.
    • After Denji listed out all his rules, Asa told him that the first two were common sense, and the kissing one was ridiculous. Of course, that's the one that she actually ends up breaking.
    • Right before Nayuta comes in, Yoru has a hand on Denji's head. She tried and failed to make him a weapon again.

Chapter 120

  • Two weeks after her harrowing reintroduction in the previous chapter, Nayuta is ultimately revealed to be much more comical than she was initially made out to be.
    • While she cuts an intimidating figure at first by bursting into the house, calling Asa a thief, and then sending a chain into her head, all the chain really does is harmlessly make Yoru think she's a dog, causing her to get on all fours and start barking. Nayuta then gives an Evil Laugh, which sounds just like Denji's own loutish laughter. And when Denji angrily demands she return Asa to normal, Nayuta petulantly refuses, complaining that she's hungry and won't do it unless Denji makes her food.
  • Nayuta justifies her hostility towards Asa by telling Denji to his face that the women in his life all try to kill him, effectively giving a voice to the fandom who hate having to watch him repeatedly get hurt by women who routinely manipulate him. She also still refers to Asa as a dog, as if she's really calling her a bitch behind a thin veil.
    • Funnier still is that she's also completely on point, as Yoru and Asa are indeed both trying to kill Denji, either by turning him into a weapon or by killing Chainsaw Man.
    • The funniest part, however, is that it's unclear if she's aware that she herself was one of these women back in her previous incarnation as Makima.
  • While Denji and Nayuta are eating dinner, Yoru can be seen napping with a few of the dogs in the background. Oh, and Nayuta also has to struggle with two of the dogs trying to steal her food the whole time.
  • Denji's confusion over whether smelling like wet dog was a compliment or an insult was because of Nayuta all along, who describes it as a good smell.
    • One of Nayuta's demands to Denji in exchange for reverting Asa back to normal is that he lets her eat ice cream every day. Denji grudgingly agrees, on the condition that he gets to do so too. Nayuta also negotiates with Denji while reclining on Asa's sleeping body like a sofa.
  • As Asa and Yoru realize that Denji had (seemingly) stood them up, Asa goes into a long-winded rant trying to rationalize to herself that she's better off without him and isn't upset at all. All Yoru has to say to her is a single disbelieving "Uh-huh".
    • As Asa mopes, Yoshida suddenly arrives and asks her if she's okay, before correcting himself to ask what she's doing instead. While you would at first construe that his initial question is regarding her getting stood up, he shouldn't otherwise be aware of Denji's and Asa's plans of their second date, at least not apparently. Meaning this comment could instead about the poor outcome of their date due to Nayuta's interference, which would also mean he was spying on Denji's date again.
    • Fridge humour, but this chapter, which deals with Denji and Asa's blossoming romance getting utterly sunk by Nayuta, ending on the sombre note of a heartbroken Asa desperately trying to convince herself she's not upset by getting 'stood up' by Denji, was released on Valentine's Day. Fujimoto's brand of twisted humour at the expense of his characters and the fandom is still going strong.

Chapter 121

  • You can spot a tiny plushie of Chainsaw Man on the couch in the Devil Hunter Club's room.
  • Asa horribly misinterprets Yoshida's intentions when he brings her to the club room, thinking Yoru's brazen attempt at making him her boyfriend actually put her on his radar, believing he was validating her beliefs and actually likes her when discussing the beneficial aspects of being alone, and just when it looks like Yoshida will tell her he loves her... He instead just tells her to avoid Denji for unspoken reasons before leaving.
  • Denji, in a funk over Nayuta forbidding him from seeing Asa, spends the whole chapter lying on the ground. And after sniffing out a Devil, Nayuta tries to send Denji off to fight it by slapping his ass.
    Nayuta: GO, GO, CHAINSAW MAN!!!!
    • It's even funnier if one imagines her actually yelling to the tune of "GO, GO, POWER RAN—GERS!!!!" or "GO, GO, GADGET (insert device name)!!!!"
    • Denji initially refuses to head out and fight the Devil, saying that there's little point in trying to pick up chicks when revealing himself if Nayuta will just chase them all off, lamenting if he's going to be single forever. Nayuta then says that he could get more love from people by fighting Devils as Chainsaw Man than from just a girlfriend, making him immediately change his mind.
    • Well, maybe not immediately. Denji says he'll think about it, and it takes a couple of panels for the hamster wheel in his head to start spinning and finally come to a conclusion.

Chapter 122

  • The Falling Devil's power is demonstrated on a man and woman as they discuss whether or not to buy a car.
Man: No? Eh, I guess you're right. The maintenance and insurance cost is supposed to be nuts. Hey, don't you think we should just die?
    Woman: Die? Sure, let's die.
(They step out on the balcony as the man spots some parked cars)
    Man: A car...

Chapter 123

  • For as much of a nightmare-filled Wham Episode as this chapter is, there's still something strangely funny about how the Falling Devil - one of the Primal Fears and the first herald of the apocalypse that will bring Hell on Earth - is also, inexplicably, wearing a chef's outfit, and bases her entire personality on being a chef in a high-class establishment. Even when he's writing the beginning of the end of days, Fujimoto's darkly absurdist sense of comedy shines through.
  • The panel of Asa holding onto the railing is also weirdly funny, mostly due to the completely uninterested look that some passersby give her.
  • Yoru's Oh, Crap! reaction to seeing the Falling Devil, namely the part about her warning Asa to get away, is darkly hilarious if you think about it for a minute. Asa, someone who's got a bad habit of tripping and falling at the worst moments... versus the literal personification of falling. No wonder Yoru recognizes that Asa facing her would be a bad idea.

Chapter 125

  • The Falling Devil, a Humanoid Abomination representing one of the most deep-seated fears of humanity, goes shopping. For an apple that tastes good with human flesh. Meanwhile, a terrified grocery worker is pinned to the ceiling, and Falling asks her for apple recommendations like nothing's out of the ordinary. She even casually walks out with them in a bag once she's found the kind she's looking for.
    • After leaving the grocery store without bloodshed, the Falling Devil realizes she forgot a major ingredient for her dish. After a squad of gun-wielding Devil Hunters ambush her to no avail, she thanks one of them for supplying her with it.
Falling Devil: Goodness me. I forgot. The recipe for the sauce called for a man's head. Excuse me, could anyone spare me one?
    • The Falling Devil's casual attitude to being utterly torn to shreds by bullets, and later, Denji's saw. Since her Healing Factor is simply too great for any damage to last, she treats it all like a mild annoyance.
  • While Chainsaw Man's return was undeniably badass, with him bursting through the Falling Devil in a shower of gore, his words are... a lot less badass.

Chapter 126

Chapter 127

  • After an emotional speech where Denji, in Chainsaw Man form, tries to convince Asa that he too knows how she feels, wanting to give up after the world keeps giving you too many crapburgers, Asa wants to know how Chainsaw Man can keep going despite feeling the same way she does about life. Denji's answer?
Denji: Sex! I WANNA HAVE SEX!!
    Asa: (Beat) EWW!!

Chapter 128

  • The fact that Asa saying that nobody would be willing to have sex with Denji in his Chainsaw Man form is what brings him over the Despair Event Horizon and makes him fall into Hell. And that came after he explained, in detail, why sex is so great and why it's the thing that drives him forward.
  • As Denji tries to run back out the door from Hell back to Earth with an unconcious Asa slung over his shoulder he's cut off by the Falling Devil who sternly tells him that he's not supposed to be part of the dish, so she'll send him back if he just leaves Asa behind. Denji immediately asks if he can at least take Asa's ass back with him.
    Falling Devil: Pervert.
  • The chapter closes on a what would otherwise be a completely dramatic cliffhanger, with the mysterious fake Chainsaw Man suddenly gutting Falling from behind. Except Falling remains as blase to being eviscerated as ever.
Falling Devil: Oh Dear. This keeps happening to me today.

Chapter 129

  • Yoru's frustration at Asa giving Denji her blood instead of killing him quickly turns comical.
Yoru: You don't have to take it so far as to save my mortal enemy!!
  • Asa regains her will to live which is awesome, but it's so egotistical and unknowingly insulting to Denji it ends up being funny.
Asa: If a piece of trash like him is allowed to keep living, then maybe it's okay for me to live too!
  • Denji refusing to steal a chick's motorcycle to escape a devil, but immediately doesn't bat an eye at hijacking a dude's whilst in the middle of riding it via a flying kick to the head.
    • He then admits that he doesn't even know how to ride the motorcycle himself.

Chapter 131

  • After a moment of consideration, Falling decides that while she did promise to kill any diners that didn't finish their meal, it's also somewhat unfair that their food run away from them. She promptly sends Denji and Asa straight down their pursuer's gullet and asks it to provide feedback on her cooking. Said Devil shows visible discomfort before doubling over and vomiting our two main characters back up unharmed, which insults Falling so much she's left stammering and crying Tears of Blood out of sheer rage.
Falling: I... I muh— I made that meal with love... How dare you throw it up?!
  • It's revealed that Fami is actually trying to prevent the apocalypse that would usher in a new age of Devils. Her stated reason as to why she'd be on humanity's side? Because the end of the world means her favorite dishes like pizza and Chinese food would cease to exist without humans to make them.
    • Nayuta is initially pretty blithe about the age of humanity possibly coming to an end, but upon hearing about this horrible, pizza-less reality, immediately agrees with Fami.
Fami: If the Age of Devils comes... things like pizza and Chinese food will cease to be.
Nayuta: What?! No more pizza?! No way!
Fami: (completely serious) I know. It's the worst scenario imaginable.
  • With the two agreeing that they want to prevent the apocalypse, Fami dramatically suggests that they work together with their combined powers leading to this exchange:
Fami: Work with me, Control. With our strength combined, the Age of Devils may not arrive.
    (Beat)
    Nayuta: No way!
    Fami: ...Why not?
    Nayuta: Cuz I have school!
(Smash Cut to Nayuta in a classroom, shouting over the other students to answer the teacher)

Chapter 132

  • When a tied-up Denji learns Yoshida's group has also captured Nayuta and their dogs, he responds with angry threats. Then he very characteristically adds on what is either pathetic begging or extremely vulgar sarcasm.
Send us home, right now! I'll even tongue your butthole for a week to thank you!
    • What makes it even more hilarious is Yoshida assuring Denji that no tonguing would be necessary... at least while he was under "protection." And Yoshida didn't exactly seem averse to the idea either...

Chapter 133

  • This chapter is not kind to Yoshida:
    • He tries to give a Sadistic Choice to Denji: stop being Chainsaw Man and remain human or he'll have Nayuta and their dogs killed. Denji chooses... to have two options. Yoshida is once again stunned by Denji's audacity.
    • When Yoshida tries to reiterate the situation, Denji basically tries to Avengers Assemble his fans (who are currently in a massive riot against Chainsaw Man protestors nearby, by the way) to kill Yoshida.
Yoshida (looking like he's about to snap): He's even dumber than I thought!
    • Finally, Nayuta and her dogs suddenly appear, completely ruining Yoshida's bargaining chip for Denji's compliance. It turns out it's because the guy watching over her thought Yoshida had finished his meeting with Denji and let her out early.
    • In the end of it all, the usually cool, confident Pretty Boy Yoshida is left standing in the middle of the street like a complete fool.

Chapter 134

  • While his need for validation is sad, it's funny that Denji actually goes to check his phone expecting a call from Haruka.

Chapter 135

  • Asa has fallen in love with Chainsaw Man. Yoru complains about how Asa keeps flashing back to the night where Denji rescued her from Falling, which leads to Asa's attempts to deny her feelings falling apart spectacularly when she ends up mentally composing a love poem for Chainsaw Man.
Yoru: Don't recite some embarrassing poem!
    Asa: It's a poetry reading!
    • "Sentimental Drive", written by Asa Mitaka:
The day we went on our first motorcycle ride,
I felt your body heat for the very first time.
Your head was a chainsaw, yet I couldn't deny
That your warmth was human, that of someone alive.
In retrospect, every time you save my life,
My body's cold as can be, as frozen as ice.
Although I'm always doomed to end up alone,
You always came to my rescue, that much I know.
    • Yoru also demands Asa to stop having flashbacks to Chainsaw Man saving her.
  • When Fami appears, Asa and Yoru both assume a comical fighting pose while demanding Fami explain how she got into the apartment and what she’s doing here. Fami, meanwhile, is hugging a loaf of bread and asking Asa and Yoru if she can eat it. And even when she gives her reason for being there, Fami immediately afterwards goes to raid Asa’s fridge for more food.
Yoru: When did you get here?!
    Fami: Can I eat this?
    Asa: The door was locked!
Yoru: How did you get in?
    Fami: Can I eat this?
    Asa: What's her deal?!
Yoru: Famine! What do you want?!
    Fami: Can I eat this?
  • The literal next panel after asking for bread is Fami with a completely empty bag in front of her and a jam jar scraped of its contents. Previously she had derided Yoru for eating the bread plain, so she clearly wanted something to go on top of it as well.
  • The chapter ends with Asa's devil hunting exploits being recounted on television, with the commentator remarking that it's possible some of Chainsaw Man's kills were actually hers... and the final panels show Denji and Nayuta watching the news, with Denji looking comically pissed that Asa is stealing his credit.
    • Once again, Denji is wearing Chainsaw Man merch, but this time it's heavily implied he wears them as pajamas.

Chapter 136

  • Despite being depressed as all hell, Denji assures the girl Yoshida introduces to him at the movie theater that he's usually more charming than he currently is.
  • While the girl is definitely creepy as a result of her sole response to Denji's depressed venting is to just grope his crotch while smiling, Denji's reaction elicits more than a few laughs.
    Denji: SHE'S TOUCHING MY WIENER?!

Chapter 137

  • The still unnamed girl from the last chapter follows up on suddenly groping Denji by bluntly offering to have sex with him, on the condition that he go and lick the dead Devil in the movie theater for her amusement. Denji, in a rare moment of insight and self-respect, questions why a girl he's only just met would offer herself to him out of the blue and states that he's tired of being manipulated by people playing on his base desires... only for the scene to pull back to reveal that the entire speech he just gave was all an Imagine Spot and that he has indeed immediately debased himself on the offer of sex, even sucking on the devil's tentacles on demand.
  • The subsequent ambush that the girl leads Denji into might be a downer... if it weren't made so utterly bizarre by several details.
    • Firstly, she follows up on her promise by leading him into a Karaoke place and proceeds to passionately belt out an incredibly vulgar songnote  that leaves Denji both bewildered and actually kind of into it, which she continues to keep singing without missing a beat even as a bunch of men with bats suddenly run into the room attacking Denji.
    • Second, while they do attack Denji in small groups, the panels pull back to reveal that the other ambushers are just casually waiting their turn, having politely formed an orderly line just outside the Karaoke room like they're at an amusement park ride.
    • Third, instead of being a crushing low point in Denji's life at having been deceived by yet another woman, Denji, after several chapters looking perpetually dead eyed and depressed, is actually reinvigorated by all this.

Chapter 139

  • Sword Man aka Miri Sugo reveals himself as a new transfer student and declares under no uncertain terms that he's not there to make friends and that he views everybody in the room as trash. Smash Cut to girls surrounding him at his desk desperately trying to flirt with him as he sits annoyed.
  • Once again, Denji is acting like a chair, this time under Mifune who is butting into his and Sugo's conversation much to the latter's chagrin.
Sugo: (completely serious) Chainsaw Man, of all people, being a chair... it doesn't sit right with me!
Denji: Butts feel good. Chairs are like... content in their own way, y'know?
  • Sugo's recruitment pitch to Denji falls on deaf ears when Denji insists on living a normal life. As he leaves, though, Sword Man offhandedly mentions that if Denji joins the Chainsaw Man Church, he could sleep with all the women he wants. Before Sugo could even get down the flight of stairs, he sees Denji waiting for him, begging to join the church. He moved so fast Sugo thought he teleported.
    • If you look closely, you can see motion blur from Denji running so fast to intercept Sugo.
    • There's also the face Denji makes when Sugo mentions all the girls he can sleep with.
    • Considering Mifune was still sitting on him when he rushes over to cut off Sugo, there's some heavy implications that in his haste Denji had unceremoniously flung her off his back.

Chapter 140

  • We finally get confirmation: the Kobeni-looking guy from the aquarium arc is indeed a Higashiyama, which only serves to explain a lot about his personality. Not only is he so incredibly meek and cowardly that he quite frankly makes Kobeni look brave, but he also can't seem to say the word "sex" in any way. That's not to mention he endorses the cult's utterly bizarre conspiracy theories about America.
  • Sugo reveals that the Chainsaw Man Church acquired its headquarters from absorbing a cult. The pure ignorance in his celebratory declaration that the Church is vanquishing evil by doing this is astounding. Even Denji seems to realize how utterly hypocritical they are.
  • Everything in the Chainsaw Man Church is themed around Chainsaw Man. Everything. Including:
    • A gigantic edifice of Chainsaw Man's head at the top of the building.
    • The Chainsaw Man Wedding Chapel, complete with pews that have chainsaws as end-posts.
    • The Chainsaw Man Bathroom. Your mileage may vary on whether the fact that we don't get to see it is a good thing or not.

Chapter 141

  • It seems that Denji isn't the only Hybrid to be dumb. When Barem dramatically asks what humans, weapons, and Devil Hunters have in common, Whip Woman spends a Beat Panel thinking before concluding that... all three are hard to spell.
    • While funny on its own, the actual punchline doesn't carry over. In Japanese, the characters for devil (悪魔) and weapon (武器) are actually quite complex, which fits in line with Whip Woman's statement. However, the character for person (人) is comically simple by comparison.

Chapter 142

  • Nayuta is seen playing in a carousel car. Or rather, displaying inexplicable road rage at something off-panel as she pretends to drive her car.
  • The chapter ends with an ominous panel of three of the Weapon Humans... the cliffhanger offset a bit by the fact that Whip Woman is wearing a hilariously stupid outfit that looks like a combination of a Coat Cape and XKCD Cory Doctorow.

Chapter 143

  • Quanxi returning and killing the Weapon Humans in a matter of seconds? Absolutely badass. Her then stopping, turning to a terrified guy, and saying "Rawr", causing him to run away in terror? Absolutely hilarious.

Chapter 144

  • We get an example of Fujimoto managing to be an Trolling Creator for an entirely different Manga. The chapter introduces what appears to be the Hammer Devil working under public safety, a being that uses a combination of hammer and nails to non-lethally subdue the gun-wielding teenage followers of the chainsaw man church. Said character's weapon choice, androgynous character design and hairstyle make them almost a dead ringer for Nobara Kugisaki from Jujutsu Kaisen. Said devil's most prominent feature is the missing half of their face not covered by their hair, exposing their brain and evoking the grievous facial injury Nobara received in her own manga that last left her on the verge of death, and her status still unconfirmed even after 100 chapters later. Given Nobara's popularity and the anxiety of the fans hoping for her return, the similarities are almost certainly intentional, just to further twist the knife on Gege's behalf.

Chapter 146

  • As nightmarish as the events of the chapter are, with thousands of people transforming into faux-Chainsaw Men across Japan as part of Fami's plot to power up Chainsaw Man and the War Devil for a confrontation with the Death Devil, something has to be said of Katana Man's sheer venom upon being charged by a group of the fake Chainsaw Men, angrily howling Chainsaw Man's name as he gets ready to fight just because of how badly he has it out for Denji.

Chapter 147

  • Quanxi bites into Fumiko's stomach. While it was so she could drink her blood to immediately recover from fall damage, this is still Quanxi we're talking about so one can't help but wonder if it was out of pragmatism... or if the sight of an attractive young woman baring her midriff was something she simply couldn't ignore.

Chapter 148

  • After Yoshida seemingly had the upper hand against Asa a few chapters prior, there's something hilarious about how their confrontation ends. First, Asa is able to turn her apartment into a sword while being constricted by the Octopus Devil's tentacles, demonstrating that a target no longer has to be touched in order to morph it into a weapon. Immediately after, Yoru takes over and cuts through said tentacles, then proceeds to blitz pass Yoshida so quickly that he had no time to react! She would've killed him right there and then, but didn't count on her newfound super-speed and crashed straight into a wall outside instead. Fully aware that he's now outmatched, Yoshida swiftly makes his escape. He isn't shown running away either. Yoru looks over to where he was standing and he's already gone without a trace:
Yoru: The cowardly octopus already fled!
    • Just how quickly did Yoshida run off? The panel of Yoru dashing pass him and her saying the quote directly above all happened on a single page within four panels! Clearly, Yoru isn't the only one with impressive super-speed.

Chapter 150

  • Pochita's back for a bit! And how does he appear to Denji? While running back home with Nayuta in tow, Denji accidentally (and symbolically) steps on a crow's corpse. When he looks back, the crow has become an overturned Pochita, who stands rightside back up. The way this is set up, it almost looks like Denji had accidentally trampled his best friend, who isn't too bothered by it.

Chapter 151

  • Sugo insists to Denji that burning his house down and killing his pets is all part of the plan to heroically prevent Nostradamus's prophecy. Denji is understandably having none of it.

Chapter 155

  • In the background of one panel, one can see a Chainsaw Man-themed Family Burger toy. Considering that Pochita literally and publicly killed several employees at a restaurant, this... raises some questions to put it lightly.

Chapter 157

  • Asa asks why she and Fami wore school uniforms to the Tokyo Devil Detention Center. Fami replies it's to blend in, because the maximum prison sometimes gives tours to high school students.
  • When Asa asks Famine about their mission, Famine doesn't respond. So Asa rolls her eyes and instead refers to her by her preferred nickname "Fami." Then she answers.
  • Asa genuinely believes that the 1.33 million yennote  she got from working with the Chainsaw Man Church and a contract scribbled up by Fami is enough to own the detention center's weapons systems. It works.
    Asa: College fund turrets!! Fire!!
  • Fami warns Asa that despite her growing abilities, one mistake is still enough to cost her her life. Asa then immediately trips and falls in view of all the heavily-armed Devil Hunters in the room.
    Fami: What a klutz...

Chapter 158

  • The Guillotine Devil takes the form of a walking guillotine, but with the head and wings of a bird. And said bird head only communicates through squawking loudly in a way that's almost Pokémon Speak.
    Guillotine: GYOHNEE!!
  • As intimidatingly tall as the Guillotine Devil is, the building's ceilings are too low for it to stand upright, forcing it to bend its neck the entire time and look goofier than it already is.
  • Either due to Fami's contract weakening it, or Guillotine deciding to randomly Pet the Dog, the guards weapons and clothes are chopped to pieces... but the guards themselves are just left unharmed but stripped down to their underwear. They end up immediately surrendering.
  • Asa asks Fami in shocked disbelief why Fami didn't just use Guillotine to get them into the facility in the first place. Fami explains that the devils she summons through her contracts are weakened and have certain restrictions placed on them. She also refuses to tell Asa what those restrictions are.
  • One of the guards tries to sucker punch Asa, only to get parried by her and knocked to the ground by Yoru. When he begs to be spared, Yoru casually demands he lick her shoes.
  • Turns out, the guards were under the impression Fami is there to rescue the original members of the Devil Hunter Club. Haruka emerges and calls Fami out for turning him and his friends into terrorist scapegoats, declaring he's done following orders from anyone else... only to immediately fold and start following the two of them when Asa says they were only there to free Chainsaw Man.
  • Haruka's reaction to what Fami's done is to kick her and Asa out of the Devil Hunter Club. Fami's completely unbothered by it.
  • Eventually, Guillotine's cawing starts getting on Fami's nerves.
    Fami: Guilly, shut up.
  • After dispatching the guards it was contracted to, Guillotine continues to awkwardly follow Asa and Fami since it apparently has nothing better to do.

Chapter 159

  • The Public Safety officer that was guarding Denji shows up and starts talking to Asa's group, which turns out to be a distraction while his teammates prepare an ambush. He starts out dispassionately shaming them for the damage the Chainsaw Man Church has done, claiming his wife was one of the people turned into Pseudo-Chainsaw Men. Things get a big stranger when he's angered his Cranky Neighbor is still human and indulges in self-pitying cliches. Clearly having to talk for longer than he expected, the man's speech awkwardly peters out into long pauses and undermines his previous point by dismissingly bringing up how he cheated on his wife ("But that lasted only six months.") Yoru seems disgusted, but she actually just caught on to the fact that he was stalling and they were about to be attacked.
  • There are multiple times throughout the chapter where Asa/Yoru kick Fami out of the way of an attack. However, it's clear that the two (and perhaps especially Yoru) were taking a little too much pleasure out of beating up their sister.

Chapter 160

  • Yoru opens the confrontation with Katana Man and Nail by asking Fami, their self-described "trump card", if she can do anything. To which Fami doesn't respond, still bloody and dazed on the floor from Yoru repeatedly shoving her out of danger by kicking her in the head.
  • Katana Man recognizes Asa from the newspaper and notes that her poetry goes on sale next month, suggesting that he follows her work, which causes her to blush in arrogance.
    • Nail, surprised, asks if Katana Man is a fan, to which Katana stutteringly denies before going on a tirade about how much he hates Chainsaw Man and everyone connected to him, which really only further emphasizes how [[Hatedom utterly obsessed he is]]. Nail's left rather unimpressed, which leads to some petty bickering between the two as everyone else looks on in bewilderment.
  • Asa, realizing that Katana Man hates Chainsaw Man, manages to stop the fight by explaining that she's actually here to fight him too, to which Katana is stunned and confused by the revelation that his hated nemesis was actually in the same building as him. When Asa asked whether he even knew anything about what he was guarding Katana just sort of slumps from the realization of how easily he's been lead around by Public Safety.
    • Yoru and Katana Man immediately start to simultaneously bond over wanting to kill Chainsaw man and also butt heads over which of them gets to do it.
    • Haruka meanwhile is left having an existential crisis over the realization that the group is going to try to rescue his idol just so they can then try to kill him.

Chapter 161

  • The characters find that Public Safety had chopped up Denji into pieces and stored them into multiple boxes:
    • When Seigi ends up finding the one containing his penis, Katana Man demands that they shove it up Denji's ass.
    • Haruka, throughout the whole ordeal, is opening boxes and looking at Chainsaw Man's body in fanboy awe. When he finds Denji's head, the look on his face makes it clear that his entire worldview of his hero had just shattered upon realizing that Chainsaw Man was his loser classmate this whole time.
    • Asa's own reaction to discovering that Chainsaw Man and Denji are one and the same: a Jaw Drop that screams Big "WHAT?!". No doubt her conversation with Denji all the way back in Chapter 104 is flashing before her eyes as she realizes that yes, Chainsaw Man is that dumb after all.
  • The head surgeon who was operating on Denji barely has a reaction to all of this, and is more annoyed than alarmed that a bunch of intruders had barged in and caused all of the boxes containing Denji to be strewn all over the floor. One panel even shows that he's grabbing some coffee while all of the above is happening. He even has the audacity to demand an apology despite several Devils bearing down on him!

Chapter 162

  • With the chapter opening on the motley gang facing down Quanxi, Nail babbles out some desperate pleas in an attempt to throw her off guard before going for a cheap shot. Made more amusing by the fact that some of his comments may have actually been genuine.
Nail: Wait! Don't kill me! Please! I really respect you! You're so strong and your skin's so pretty! Plus, I'm dying to know what shampoo you use!
  • After plowing through Katana Man, Yoru and Nail, Quanxi's left standing over a terrified Nobana, who just cowers on the floor while holding Denji's severed head out like a shield in a frantic effort to hold her off. To everyone's surprise it actually works and Quanxi suddenly stops dead in her tracks.
  • The Public Safety officer from before, Takagi, while clearly realizing just how screwed he is now that every single Weapon Hybrid and Fiend has turned on him, also just seems utterly exasperated with the situation. Like a customer service agent or retail worker whose had one too many problems thrown at them in a day.
Takagi: (pulling at his hair) Why?! Why can't any of these Devils do as they're told?!
    • His choice of Last Words is also highly questionable and takes a sudden hard right swerve out of nowhere. Made more absurdly hilarious by the fact that he gets cut off before he can properly ramp up to whatever tirade he was about to go on by his supposed wife eviscerating him from behind, having been unintentionally let out of her containment when Katana Man cut through her cell door, and then forgotten about until now.
Takagi: Look. Let me just say one thing. WOMEN ARE—
  • With the situation resolved, Quanxi instructs Asa/Yoru to kill her and make it look like she lost the fight so she'll have plausible deniability, since as a Hybrid she's immortal and will recover eventually. The surgeons who were still standing off to the side the whole time, look at each other for a moment and decide that they definitely aren't witnesses.

Chapter 163

  • The chapter opens with the Devil Hunter Club watching the news, deathly afraid that the media is breaking the news that they broke out of prison. One particular channel nearly makes Haruka Freak Out when it looks like they're about to be outed — and then it just turned out to be about a celebrity cheating scandal.
  • The scene pulls back to reveal that the ragtag grouphave reassembled a sleeping Denji, and are awkwardly sitting around in Fami's hideout, a nondescript apartment.
  • Denji has been completely out of the loop of most plot points throughout Part 2, and wakes up clearly confused and overwhelmed, with no idea where he is, why he's surrounded by strange people, or why Asa is suddenly missing an arm. Asa's attempt to explain things to him doesn't help much either.
Denji: (bewildered) What happened to your arm?
Asa: Your friend cut it off.
    Denji: ...Why?
    Asa: Dunno.
    Denji: ...Am I dreaming?
    • Nail finds the sleeping Denji attractive, spending the chapter lying next to Denji and simply staring at him. Nail apparently only finds Denji attractive when he's asleep though, yelling at him to go back to sleep the second he wakes up and confusedly asks what's happening.
Nail: You were more my type asleep! Go back to sleep!
    • Katana Man suddenly enters the scene by appearing on the bed and promptly delivers Denji a flying stomp to the balls to pay him back for kicking him in the nuts in the past, before demanding that he transform so they can have their rematch. For his part, Denji just writhes in confused agony.
Katana: I returned both your balls to right where they belong in your ball sack... so I could ring the gong of revenge with my own foot! Now turn into Chainsaw Man! It's time for round three!
Denji: Nope! Not... agh... ugh... a dream!
    • Asa starts to protest Katana's violent impatience to settle his grudge with Denji, prompting Haruka to rally behind her in defense of his hero, only for Yoru to immediately take over and then kick Denji in the balls again before she also tells Denji to transform and fight her. The chapter ends with Haruka and Nobana freaking out over being stuck with people who are all clearly insane.
Nobana: I don't feel safe around these people!
Haruka: Where else are we supposed to go?

    Anime-specific
  • The first OP is full of gems on its own:
    • Kishibe, Aki, Arai, and Kobeni reenact the conference room scene from Attack of the Killer Tomatoes!, but since it's a rotoscope of a brief snippet of it, it looks more like Kobeni is losing her mind and crawling all across the table.
    • Denji stares at something, screaming in horror. Then Power slides into camera behind him, laughing her ass off.
    • The main characters (and others) partake in the signature Tatsuki Fujimoto movie theater outing. Himeno is very obviously getting bored with the movie and on the verge of falling asleep. Meanwhile, Kobeni got up from her seat to do something, only for Power to come in and steal it, insisting that it's always been her seat when Kobeni returns. Kobeni ends up crying on the floor.
    • Denji reenacting the Jesus polishing his bowling ball from The Big Lebowski.
    • Aki's golden bowling ball for some reason returns by the action-packed middle of the OP, now somehow giant-sized and used by Denji and Power to attack a Devil. It also explodes.
      • A moment that goes by quickly is that when Denji sees the gigantic golden ball, he has a "Eureka!" Moment to Aki's bowling and thinks of using the ball to attack the Devil. He immediately turns to Power, hanging off of a lightpost like a monkey, who is clearly thinking of the exact same thing.
    • Right after a gratuitous Fanservice shot of Power in a swimsuit (with her name below her in a similar 80s-style font to the title of Thor: Love and Thunder, and a brief zoom-in on her barely visible breast pads), the scene instantly cuts to Denji crawling on his knees like a dog while Makima pulls him behind her with a neck leash.
    • We get a glimpse of the Future Devil dancing.
    • The OP properly ends with both Denji and Power doing a little jig together. Very clearly done with this shit, Aki turns to the camera and promptly ends the opening with Kon.
    • While it has no overt references to the anime it was produced for, the official music video is no slouch in the Surreal Humor department either. It features Kenshi Yonezu working out until he grows a pair of ridiculously muscular arms while the rest of his body is still scrawny and thin. Then he punches a punching bag off of its harness, takes his fake muscular arms off, gets on a treadmill and enters a bizarre dream sequence in which he sings in the middle of a field of windmills, steps onto the road... and gets run over by an oncoming van. And then it just becomes even more surreal from there.
  • The anime adaptation gives Pochita an additional quirk where his eyes are always open when he's acting as a chainsaw, even when Denji is cutting logs with him and spraying wood chips in his face.
  • The English dub of the anime has Denji say "That fucking devil!" in regards to the Bat Devil. Then calls him a tool and an asshole. As shown in this clip.
  • The Bat Devil slowly dropping the man he was about to eat after Denji loudly complains about not touching breasts after all this trouble. Not only due to fear, but now most likely sheer disbelief.
  • In episode 4, MAPPA added a long, quiet scene of Aki in his morning routine... seemingly just to build up to Power loudly knocking on his door, busting the lock open and making her way home.
    • Compared to the manga, Aki is visibly a lot more angry at having to spend a day with Power settling in.
  • The anime expands on Denji's existential crisis after touching Power's chest; mainly Power being a nuisance. First she snatches some of his food, spilling a ramen bowl in the process and angering Aki. The scene cuts to her and Denji on patrol right before Aki curses her out.
    • Power chopping Denji on the head when he doesn't respond to her.
      Power: Chop!
  • Episode 7's ED is mostly a charming throwback to glossy, cheesecake-laden, animated nineties musical sequences with some era-appropriate videogame references thrown in. Then near the end of it, there's several solid seconds of Himeno puking in Denji's mouth from different angles, which unlike the same scene from the televised version of the episode, is completely uncensored (albeit rainbow-colored).
    • The entire ending theme is actually about the kiss, being a cutesy love song that is actually just one huge play on words note .
  • Power absentmindedly blinking a couple times with a cheerful smile when Denji refuses to wrestle her.
  • In the dub version of Kobeni accusing Arai of being a spy:
    Kobeni: YOU'RE ARAI THE SPY!!!
    Power: Ooh, there's pie?
Arai: I wouldn't work for the Devils as a spy, ever!
Kobeni (running up to Arai and getting all up in his face): I KNOW WHAT YOU AAAAAAARRREEEEEE!!!
    Arai: AAAAUUUUGGGGGHHH!!!
  • Ryan Colt Levy's line delivery when Himeno asks Denji about getting with Makima in the dub:
Himeno: So, you're serious about getting with Ms. Makima...?
    Denji: Yisss...
  • In the otherwise dead serious fight between Himeno and Katana Man, after the Snake Devil snatches up the Ghost Devil, Sawatari dismisses it. It doesn't disappear in a cloud of smoke like Fox or gradually fade out; the gigantic devil instantly blips out of existence with no warning or fanfare, letting Ghost's severed head tumble gracelessly from where Snake's arm-teeth were holding it.
  • Power's gradual and exaggerated Oh, Crap! reaction to Denji's brain damage.
  • In the scene where Aki meets the Angel Devil, the anime makes sure to include Violence and Beam having a grand old time ripping zombies to shreds in the background.
  • And just as it was with Aki, the anime adds a bell ringing sound as the two go to town on Katana Man's nuts.
Denji: (While kicking Aki in the balls) When I fight a dude, it's nuts or nothing!
  • In an otherwise melancholic teaser for The Movie, there's still some moments of humor, including an image of a frantic Denji set against the words "Big Ass" and Reze staring with open-mouth Dull Surprise when a nude Denji leaps crotch first into the water.
