Goha Corp (ゴーハ コーポレイション, Goha Kōporeishon)

    In general
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/goha_corp_logo.png

The MegaCorp that dictates Duel Monsters in the city and Goha City's way of life.

  • Big Brother Is Watching: Exaggerated; they monitor everything from school attendance to exchanging cards.
    • Elementary-school children are all in Goha's database and identified by codes, and any technological modifications (like adjusting a bike like Yuga did) are prohibited.
    • Six infraction leads to the perpetrator's account being banned.
    • They exercise full control over the internet, deleting any videos that displease them and even controlling information on the internet to such an extent that they can hide certain topics from search results.
  • Laughably Evil: They're introduced as a very malevolent organization, with their constant control over the lifestyles and Dueling of Goha City's citizens and their extremely intimidating President. That said, aside from said president, Nail Saionji, and Mimi Atachi, pretty much all of them are shown to be extremely incompetent, especially in the Team Battle Royal arc where they are unable to determine the identity of Otes despite him being an employee, they all have no clue where their own Dueling server is located (admittedly this is partially for the security of said server) and the plans the executives come up with for getting rid of Rush Dueling leads Mimi to conclude that she's Surrounded by Idiots.
  • Malevolent Masked Men: Goha Corp's entire company is filled with employees wearing their symbol over their eyes, with their CEO possessing a full face mask.
  • MegaCorp: They are in charge of running Goha City, and dictate both Duel Monsters and its citizens' way of life. Their influence is so pervasive that the company can completely remove "Rush Dueling" from online search engines.
  • Numerological Motif: Goha Corp has a heavy six motif.
    • If a duelist incurs six infractions on their account, they are permanently banned.
    • They use the Number of the Beast in their time limits (6:66:66), which activate when a user attempts to tamper with or modify their Duel Disk in any way.
      • True to their massive influence, it has been shown that the corporation even banned the number 7 from people's regular clocks in the city, meaning the weird time limit isn't just a one time thing. It's a mystery why there's even a Goha Seventh school to begin with, when they seem to despise the number so badly.
    • The Tops of Hexagon are a group composed of six executives, with Mimi Atachi (who herself is #6 within the group) being one of them.
    • The known Goha Duel rules all refer to the number six.
    • After Yuga and his friends finish their meal during a trip to an AI restaurant owned by Goha Corp, their total bill comes to ¥666,666.
    • Nail Saionji's Door of Providence is located in #66 of the underground's V6 area.
    • The true CEOS are the 6 Goha Siblings.

Click here to see his true identity.

The CEO of Goha Corporation.

  • Actually a Doombot: Episode 32 reveals that the President is actually the helmet, who merely places itself on new candidates when the old one wears out.
  • Actually Pretty Funny: If not overlapping with Laughing Mad, he seems amused by "Rush Duels" when he debuts and his office is swamped with questions and requests about the concept. Doesn't stop him from trying to stamp the format out, though.
  • Ambiguous Situation: How much control the President Drone has over the wearer is rather ambiguous since according the drone itself, it assists the one who becomes president and although the process is shown to be possibly painful, Mimi is still capable of expressing herself after becoming the new president. He is later shown as being capable of a full Villain Override, and other helmets with the same capability as him as shown to exist.
  • Brought to You by the Letter "S": His mask bears Goha Corp's logo on the top and the mouth.
  • Contrasting Sequel Antagonist
    • He's one for Queen and the other SOL executives. In the case of the latter, he directly interacts with his subordinates, despite brushing them off, while the higher-ups remained hidden, never once being seen, while seeming to take "Rush Duels" in stride, versus how the SOL executives wanted to destroy the Cyberse World. As for Queen, he conceals himself almost completely with his mask and cloak, versus Queen's revealing outfits, and once again, his bemusement at "Rush Duels" and satisfaction to run the company as it is goes against Queen's single-driven desire for money and profit. Him working with Asana through a contract, implying some mutual exchange despite him being in charge also contrast how Queen merely pushed and used her underlings through the series. Just like Queen, Doll is revealed to not be the true villain, but whereas Queen was an independent factor in the war between the Ignis and humans that was quickly disposed of by Ai, Doll is The Dragon to Yuo and freely helps him in his plans.
    • After The Reveal that the President is actually a drone, he also acts as this for Lightning from the same series. Whereas Lightning was a ruthless and cruel program with an underlying motive for perfection and dominance, destroying and mentally wrecking people across much of the series, the President is perfectly content with simply ruling over Goha through his company, will take on any host if they are healthy enough in a mutual possession, along with said possession not being as painful or deliberately traumatic the way Lightning kept Jin an Empty Shell, and is generally more passive and affable in his demeanor. Though it is later shown his Villain Override causes a massive headache when he does it to Mimi. On a smaller note, he also seemed to be created to seal away Yuga Goha's duel disk, a job he did very well until Yuga Goha was revived, at which point he switched loyalties to him. Contrast this to Lightning, who was a defective Ignis whose very code contaminated every simulation done with the virtual world, and ultimately saw the destruction of the Cyberse World.
    • He can also be seen as one to the main antagonists from previous series. While they usually serve as an obstacle for the protagonists, that being coming up with plans to deal with them, sending various Duelists to try and defeat them, and even getting involved themselves if necessary, he’s rather hands-off when it comes to destroying Rush Duels, preferring to let his subordinates or outside parties deal with Yuga and his friends. The introduction of Yuo, and later Yuga Goha also reveals that he wasn't even the real Big Bad to begin with.
  • Dark Is Evil: His monster, Vice Jacker, that he slips into Mimi's deck is DARK.
  • Demoted to Dragon: The introduction of the Goha Siblings, the true heads of Goha, sees him reduced to this...But it is Played With, as he was always their, or rather Yuo's, direct subordinate, at least until Yuga Goha resurrects and Doll seems to switch loyalties to him.
  • The Dragon: To the Goha Siblings, particularly Yuo.
  • Equippable Ally: Besides being capable of being worn by anyone as a helmet, he turns into a pair of wings for Yuga Goha to use for the purposes of flight.
  • Evil Laugh: Chuckles wickedly even as he answers customer support calls. In his first few episodes, this is his only form of speech. It's a trait he shares with Yuo.
  • The Faceless: His face is obscured with a mask that bears his corporation's logo. Eventually subverted, as the helmet turns out to be his face.
  • Greater-Scope Villain: For Season 1. He never takes direct Arc Villain status, but his company's actions in stamping out Rush Dueling drive the actions of each of the antagonists, including Roa's desire to co-opt it, and Nail and Asana's attempts to eradicate it. However he himself works for the Goha Siblings, in particular Yuo.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: By forcing Mimi to summon Vice Jacker, it played into her defeat at Roa's hands.
  • Malevolent Masked Man: His company completely controls the town, and he's currently being set up as an antagonist. He also wears a mask/helmet that completely obscures his face. As the President Drone is actually the leader, it is his face, with his previous host being shown to be elderly, but not his face.
  • Orcus on His Throne:
    • He's yet to really get directly involved with the plot, with Mimi, Roa, and the various students in Goha driving the conflicts of the story forward. Justified as he has to run his corporation and monitor things. At the same time however, while Goha as a company is worried by Rush Duels, he seems bemused and possibly interested in their development, and yet without any apparent plan of his own to carry on. This is because he's not the real villain and was monitoring things for his true master, Yuo.
    • Episode 32 and 33 play with it: he is revealed to be the one who planned to get Yuga and the others transferred into Goha 6th elementary and is checking on Asana to make sure she is carrying the plan along to crash Rush Duels. He still doesn't act directly (yet), but seems pretty satisfied of just being the president rather than trying to take over.
  • Puppet King: Season two introduces the real heads of Goha, who are The Man Behind the Man to him.
  • The Reveal: In Season 2 it's revealed that he is actually working for the Goha siblings, specifically Yuo, whereupon his name is revealed as Doll.
  • Schizo Tech: For whatever reason, despite running a company that produces hologram projectors, drones, and smartphones, he has a rotary phone in his office.
  • Sinister Surveillance: As a Goha Drone, Doll is capable of directly spying on others for Yuo.
  • Suddenly Speaking: He doesn't speak in proper full sentences until Episode 27, to the shock of the Tops of Hexagon.
  • Villain Override: Is capable of doing this to his wearer, and Vice Jacker does so thematically. Mimi is left aware and unable to control her body.
  • Villainous Rescue: In Yuga's duel with Roa, the legality of Sevens Road Magician comes up, and Roa's fans slam the company with questions to force Yuga to forfeit. Mr. Goha calls Mimi with a second rule that at least lets Yuga continue the duel. His reasons for doing so are unknown.

    Otes (Spoilers

Otes (オーティス, Ōtisu)

Voiced by: Daisuke Namikawa (JP), Mateo Ervin (EN, Sevens)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/hologramman.png

A renowned legendary Duelist in Goha City, and the same individual who motivated Yuga to forge his own path in life and gifted him Sevens Road Magician. He once worked for Goha Corporation in the development department.

He uses multiple decks, each based around a particular classic monster, such as Blue-Eyes White Dragon, Red-Eyes Black Dragon, Summoned Skull or Dark Magician. His final and true deck is a DARK Spellcaster deck focused around the Sevens-Road series.

  • Ambiguously Evil: Yuga doesn't trust him at all and it's eventually accepted that he was the one behind the Goha Rush Duel Team Battle Royal, the actions of Goha 66, and the uninstallation of Rush Dueling. However, Otes himself never confirms this and it's ambiguous as to whether he knew that Yuga would just instantly reinstall Rush Dueling or if he intended to take advantage of the situation as a Secret Test of Character. The "ambiguous" part is dropped in the finale where he's revealed as the true main antagonist of the series.
  • Ambiguous Situation: Otes appears as a Hologram with a strange shrine, but in the past was a Goha designer and clearly a real person to give Sevens Road Magician to Yuga. How he ended up in this state and if he himself is still running around is left unknown. He finally appears in person in episode 43.
    • When confronted about his attempt to uninstall rush duels, he asks Yuga if he has any proof it was him. Is it just a standard culprit's line, or is he actually trying to tell Yuga to look more deeply into the matter? The latter would be more in character of him, but the evidence would point to the former. It doesn't help that Yuga doesn't seem to believe how he implies that he knew that Yuga would have just re-installed a more solid program.
    • He was the one who sent Goha the plan to defeat rush duels, however the actual way that would have been accomplished was never explained in the plan he sent. This would seem just meaningless self-sabotaging. It doesn't help that, by the end of the tournament, the popularity they gained leads Goha to also side against the termination of rush duels. Did he see that change of heart coming? Was leading to it the plan all along? Or there is another reason behind his actions?
  • Badass Normal: Uses high-level beatsticks without effects, though backed up by monster-specific cards. Averted by his true deck.
  • Batman Gambit: He claims to have run one uninstalling rush duels so that Yuga would reinstall a stronger version of the program. Yuga is not convinced.
  • Big Bad: Ultimately turns out to have been the one manipulating everyone and Yuga towards his own ends.
  • The Chooser of the One: He decided Yuga would be the next duel king, but also was willing to transfer the right to Roa should he beat Yuga.
    • This ends up being a problem once he loses his memory. Since he doesn’t know to filter out the more ridiculous duel formats, the system is bloated with so many formats it threatens to fall apart. But this inaction is later revealed to be all too deliberate.
  • Dark Is Evil: Although SEVENS monsters were always DARK, Otes emphasizes it.
  • Duels Decide Everything: He serves as a back door into the Goha system, allowing anyone to modify the rules. However, you have to beat him with said rules first, and he adapts really quickly. He also requires you to duel him to provide you with help or informataion. Justified by the fact he acts as a Stealth Mentor.
  • Foreshadowing: He wears a Cool Mask, and he works/worked for Goha who wear masks as well.
  • Graceful Loser: He compliments Yuga on his victory and successful installation of "Rush Duels", and opens up a new pathway for him so he can begin his journey to becoming the "King of Duels".
  • Hidden Agenda Villain: Despite having pushed Yuga to greatness, the Team Battle Royal Arc shows him apparently trying to uninstall Rush Duels with a malicious smile. However, the situation is rather ambiguous as there doesn't seem to be any direct proof that he was the one that activated the uninstall, saying it led to Yuga creating a much more robust system for Rush Duels, making it harder to remove. Either way it is a moot point, since Yuga Goha then proceeds to defeat Otes and erase his memory with Monster Reborn..
    • Yuga Goha believes his plan was to return children to dueling, which he neither confirms nor denies.
    • Episode 88 reveals that his goal all along was to arrange for the duelling system to collapse altogether, so he could rebuild it from the ground up.
  • It Was with You All Along: He claims that the hint to defeat Maximum Summons is something that is within Yuga's friends after they defeat him.
  • Meaningful Name: The character seems to be based on Seto Kaiba and his name is Seto spelled backwards.
  • Mythology Gag: Every deck Otes has used so far are all based on classic monsters. They are often used as a metaphorical roadblocks as what greater challenge is there than the original boss monsters.
  • Not Brainwashed: He escaped the memory wiping effect of Monster Reborn because he created that card to only work on those with their own insecurities.
  • Our Demons Are Different: His third deck is Summoned Skull and Archfiends.
  • Put on a Bus: As Episode 6 reveals, he and his shrine have mysteriously vanished. He later resurfaces during Yuga and Roa's duel to prove that Sevens Road Magician is not an illegal card.
  • The Reveal: Episode 13 reveals he is a former Goha employee who designed the Sevens Road theme.
  • Spell My Name With An S: After his name was revealed, much discussion was had over whether it was spelled "Otis" or "Otes", with the latter popular due to being "Seto" in reverse in Englishnote , though the former was judged more phonetically correct. Episode 24 depicted the spelling as "Otes", however, official merchandise revealed after said episode's airing spelled his name as "Otis", leaving it ambiguous which spelling is the correct one. The dub also uses the spelling "Otes".
  • Starter Villain: He's not a villain per se, being more of an enigmatic character, but he is Yuga's first opponent to test out "Rush Duels". He also gives Yuga a pretty good fight, adapting to the new format quite easily and bringing out a first-turn Blue-Eyes.
  • Stealth Mentor: Otes always shows up whenever Yuga is in a very bad situation, often challenging Yuga and his friends to teach them an important lesson. And shows up in the Rush Duel Tournament to call out Yuga for not participating, since Rush Duels could become just as stale as Goha Duels if he doesn't keep them alive.
  • Treacherous Quest Giver: He's The Chooser of the One, but ultimately is working towards his own ends. The Book of SEVENS even discusses the trope with the old man mentor that betrays the SEVENS at the end.
  • Walking Spoiler: His behavior, actions, and true role reveal much of the plot.
  • Xanatos Gambit: His ultimate goal, villainous or not, is to bring dueling back into the hands of children. While Rush Duels were a strong solution, it can get just as tainted as Goha Duels, unless someone actively protects it, thus the stakes for the final duel of the series; if Otes defeats Yuga, then Otes can destroy Rush Duels and, because of the server overloads that were going on, destroy all other Dueling formats and start again from the ground up. If Yuga defeats Otes, then not only does Otes respect that Rush Duels are the future of dueling, but acknowledge that the future of dueling are safely in the hands of children as he intended.

    Tops of Hexagon (The Hexagon)

Tops of Hexagon (トップ・オブ・ヘキサゴン, Toppu obu Hekisagon)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tops_of_hexagon.png

A group of six executives of Goha Corporation, below Mr. Goha.

Tropes associated with the Tops of Hexagon except for Mimi.

  • Asshole Victim: They are crushed by Nail after they wanted to remove him from his position to take his power, and also wanted to get Mimi fired for not agreeing with them.
  • Advertised Extra: They are presented in the opening as a Quirky Mini Boss Squad opposing Yuga and his friends, but other than Mimi, who volunteers to spy on them, none of the other members are given any additional focus until the remaining five try to take down Neiru.
  • Bait-and-Switch: The six of them are introduced implying they'll be a Quirky Mini Boss Squad who the protagonists will have to face, with Mimi being sent in first. While she certainly becomes an important recurring character, the others don’t have any plot relevance other than being unceremoniously defeated by Neiru, that they haven't even merited their own names.
  • Co-Dragons: They seemed to fill this role towards Goha until they were demoted.
  • The Faceless: They all wear masks with Goha Corp's logo that obscure their faces.
  • Fat Bastard: One of the Hexagons is noticeably hefty, and is a jerk like the rest.
  • Jerkass: They are completely smug and unsympathetic, be willing to not only get Neiru removed from his position but get Mimi fired for disagreeing with them.
  • Reassigned to Antarctica: Five of them are demoted for failing to demote Nail and Mimi was demoted for failing to prevent the others from demoting Nail.
  • Shoot the Dangerous Minion: All of them, bar the dissenting Mimi, try to do this to Neiru in order to swipe his position and authority. Key word being try.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: Despite having no role other than to lose to Nail, they do have a moment of plot relevance in that their ID cards were used to create Neiru's Maximum Cards.
  • The Worf Effect: For all the authority they boast in Goha, the Tops of Hexagon who challenge Nail lose to him badly, demonstrating that his skills as a duelist aren't just for show. Him defeating Yuga with the power of Maximum reaffirms this.

Mimi Atachi (Mimi Imimi)/Number Six (Spoilers

Mimi Atachi/Number Six (安立ミミ, Atachi Mimi/ナンバーシックス, Nanbā Shikkusu)

Voiced by: Rio Suzuki (JP), Anjali Kunapaneni (EN)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mimiatachi.png

A self-proclaimed eternal elementary schooler who transfers into Goha Seventh Elementary. She is a member of the "Tops of Hexagon", a group of six executives of Goha Corp, and infiltrates Yuga's school under Goha's orders to uncover the secrets of "Rush Duels".

Mimi uses various Decks containing Aqua monsters, many of which are based on older monsters and cards, each corresponding to an aspect of her life. All of her Decks include a variant of "Dian Keto", and all of them have a focus on restoring her LP. Her first deck is her Bubble Era deck, featuring LIGHT Aqua monsters, with her ace being the LIGHT Attribute "Dian Keto the Gold-digging Master". During her time as Goha’s President, her deck switches to DARK Aqua monsters with a prison theme, with her ace being the DARK Attribute "Dian Keto the Prison Master". In the Goha Employee arc, she switches to a Kitchen Deck featuring WATER Aqua monsters, with her new ace being the FIRE Attribute "Dian Keto the Kitchen Master".

  • Accomplice by Inaction: While the other members of Hexagon were demoted for their failure in taking Nail’s position, Mimi was also demoted for failing to stop them from doing it in the first place.
  • The Ace: Mimi is legimately skilled at almost everything she does, being an excellent executive, athletic, and can cook.
  • Action Mom: A major executive, Duelist, and corporate spy, who despite her looks is a caring mother.
  • Adults Dressed as Children: Justified in that she is undercover as an elementary schooler, and can actually pass as such. Outside of it, she dresses appropriate for her age.
  • Affably Evil: She's actually rather sympathetic of Yuga, realizing he isn't malicious, and although she dislikes Rush dueling, her bigger concern is the massive backhole in the Goha database that let Rush Duels be installed.
  • Ambition Is Evil: Generally played for laughs, except when fired but her desire to be president causes an unscrupulous side in her.
  • And I Must Scream: Being controlled by the President Drone is not a fun experience, and leaves her with a massive headache after he releases her.
  • Anti-Villain: Mimi's job is to find out how to uninstall "Rush Duels", but she isn't malicious and even feels sympathy for Yuga, but the company is legitimately concerned that he hacked their servers.
  • Be Careful What You Wish For: Episode 32: She finally becomes the president of Goha. The drawback? It’s via an AI possessing her body. It also turns out to be extremely boring work, which makes her want to quit, only for her to be fired when the Goha Siblings return.
  • Casting a Shadow: Her Bubble Era monsters after becoming president.
  • Contrasting Sequel Antagonist: Can be considered one for Queen from Yu-Gi-Oh! VRAINS, who was a mature woman and Corrupt Corporate Executive and easily the Token Evil Teammate of SOL. Mimi on the other hand has a childlike appearance and is the Token Good Teammate even when she becomes president.
  • Cursed with Awesome: Her opinion of looking like a preteen forever, as she constantly gets confused by well-meaning people for being a child, but it did give her the drive to work hard and rise to the top of Goha Corp.
  • Disco Dan: Still holds a torch for the Bubble Era (or at least the setting's equivalent of it), and like her boss the technology she uses personally is a more than a little outdated. The dub translates her as a bit of a Jive Turkey, using dated slang.
  • Dragon Ascendant: She becomes president after the Goha drone’s previous host collapses on it. Subverted in that she's really more of a Reasonable Authority Figure and doesn't do anything antagonistic as president, least of all try to destroy Rush Duels.
  • Dub Name Change: To Mimi Imimi in the English version.
  • Evil Cannot Comprehend Good:
    • Played with. Mimi isn't evil, but she's so caught up in the idea that Yuga must secretly be some kind of fiend that his genuine offer to lend her his notebook makes her suspect it's a trap.
    • Played for laughs when she see’s Yuga and Luke looking so happy eating kake-udon together when Yuga had previously turned down a large sum of money she and Luke had tried offering him earlier.
  • The Fake Cutie: Not that she is a bad person, but she puts on the appearance of a cutesy elementary schooler instead of the serious and work-minded adult she actually is. She does however, have some Manchild traits even when alone, likely a result of looking so young.
  • Feeling Their Age: Despite her young appearance she does lack the boundless energy of children, as shown in the Mystery of Yuga where she gets tired of the chase first.
  • Friendly Enemy: She does consider herself a friend to Yuga and his companions, but makes it clear as a Top of Hexagon she has to do her job.
  • Heel–Face Revolving Door: Downplayed. While Mimi helps out Yuga and his friends on occasion, if she sees a chance to rise up the ranks in Goha, she’ll take it without a second thought.
  • George Jetson Job Security: Despite being good at her job, she ends up getting demoted with the rest of the Tops of Hexagon despite being the only one who was against their attempted coup against Nail and later gets demoted to a low level Goha Library staff after the Goha Siblings kick her out of the president's chair.
  • Glamorous Single Mother: Ambiguously so, as she shows no signs of being married, but is a wellpaid Goha Executive that takes the time to make her son's favorite dinner.
  • Good Parents: Despite being wary of her son playing "Rush Duels", she is willing to let him do so if he keeps his grades up, and even makes him his favorite dinner.
  • Guest-Star Party Member: A rare antagonistic version. Despite not working directly under Neiru, she requests to duel for his side against Yuga’s group for the fifth duel during the Providence Arc.
  • Heal It with Water: Her main strategy is healing her LP with her Aqua monsters, using either her Aqua monsters' effects and spell cards that involve Aqua monsters.
  • Kindhearted Cat Lover: She loves cats, and finds Schrodinger's Cat Eyes monsters to be adorable.
  • Light The Way: The monsters she uses all have the LIGHT attribute, and Mimi herself is rather obsessed with Neon lights and disco balls from the Neon Era.
  • Limited Wardrobe: Averted like Romin. Besides her pictured outfit and Goha Hexagon uniform, she has a variety of flashback outfits, both a yellow and a black version of her dress, and more typical mom clothes. As well as her Presidential robes.
  • Making a Splash: Mimi's monsters are all Aqua monsters, however, they lack any association with water except for them being associated with the Bubble Era.
  • The Mole: For Goha Corp, so she can steal the notes on "Rush Duels".
  • Mrs. Robinson: Despite her age she has a crush on Roa. It's played for laughs since she looks his age, and it is more of a fan crush.
  • Mum Looks Like a Sister: She has a son named Yosh that Yuga reminds her of, and she can pretend to be an elementary school student due to her youthful appearance. She even fits the mothers in apron part of the trope when at home.
  • Mythology Gag: All of her monsters are variants of old cards like Dian Keto the Cure Master and Kanan the Sword Mistress, but mixed with 90's pop culture from the Japanese Bubble Era like Disco and Ganguro.
  • New Transfer Student: Invoked, as her appearance lets her act as The Mole to get close to Yuga. Gakuto does look a bit closer though and is alarmed that he can't find the school she transferred from.
  • Older Than They Look: Despite being a 37-year old, she has the physical appearance of a typical elementary school girl. There's at least one instance of her enjoying a drink in a bar with a sign hanging behind her back with "I'm an adult" written on it.
  • Parental Substitute: Becomes one for the Goha Siblings encouraging them when they are down and even making dinner for them, making her remark she feels like she has more kids now.
  • Pen-Pushing President: As Goha President, she finds the paperwork and day to day work to be dull.
  • Pink Means Feminine: Mimi wears a pink dress in disguise, and her casual garb includes a pink sweater, fitting for a feminine girl. In addition, she has pink eyes.
  • Punch-Clock Villain: Gives off this vibe as the series goes on. She's only after Yuga due to "Rush Duels" messing with Goha's system, but beyond that has no real malignant intentions for him or his friends.
  • Punny Name: Atachi is a pun on Adachiru or Adult Child.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure:
    • Despite being a member of the Tops of Hexagon, when Roa challenges the legality of Sevens Road Magician, she steps in to have the matter checked, succeeding in allowing the duel to continue.
    • In episode 16, after Luke narrowly causes Romin to be working off his debt forever, she subtly coaxes him to do the right thing and step in to help her.
    • As President, she does her best to be a more affable figure than usual and engages with the crowd during the Goha Rush Duel Team Battle Royal.
    • In the epilogue two years after, she finds herself as Vice President of Goha under the Goha Siblings who maintain their place as Presidents as she strives to improve both the company and the city, especially with dueling.
  • Skewed Priorities: Roa reveals that he intends to claim the copyright for "Rush Duels" from Yuga. Instead of being horrified at the idea of a new variable mucking up Goha's plans, Mimi instead panics that Roa's concert tickets will become harder to get from the inevitable increase of popularity.
  • The Smurfette Principle: The only member of the Tops of Hexagon that is shown to be a woman.
  • Stealth Clothes: Wears them to steal Yuga's notebook, and is somehow wearing her school clothes underneath.
  • Surrounded by Idiots: She’s often exasperated by her fellow Hexagon members and in general seems to be the only competent one among them. She feels the same way towards her subordinates after she becomes president and they are trying to brainstorm schemes to destroy Rush Duels, even calling them idiots to herself.
  • Thinking Out Loud: Mimi tends to monologue to herself internally or externally, and is constantly caught by two girls that want to call a teacher on her.
  • Third-Person Person: She refers to herself by her surname while in the guise of an elementary schooler.
  • Token Good Teammate: Among the Tops of Hexagon, being the only one that didn't try to take out Neiru to steal his power and position. Also this to Yuga's group - her mostly benevolent interaction with Yuga's group even caused Neiru’s system to consider her as Yuga's ally, giving her a penalty despite her working against Yuga.
  • Totally Radical: In the English dub she frequently uses outdated slang, like "bodacious" and "tubular."
  • Wardens Are Evil: Thematically her deck, after becoming president. With her new ace, Dian Keto the Prison Master. Though the true warden is the President Drone, based on his mind control.
  • You Have Outlived Your Usefulness: Non-fatally, but with the return of the Goha Siblings as the true presidents, she is fired from her role as president.

    Goha 66

Goha 66 (ゴーハ66, Gōha Daburu Shikkusu)

Voiced by: Joji Nakata (Japanese)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/goha66.png
A Goha employee only known as Goha 66 who leads a splinter faction also called Goha 66 comprised of himself and 65 other members with plans on taking over the company.
  • Arc Villain: He initially appears to be this of the Team Battle Royal arc, using the tournament as a part of his plan to take over the company. He turns out to be even more Laughably Evil than most antagonists seen thus far and is easily defeated offscreen.
  • Big Bad Wannabe: He fancies himself as the Arc Villain, but he and his group are defeated easily and offscreen by the Heavy Cavalry Duel Club and Tiger.
  • Child Hater: Downplayed, he hates children and believes they should be educated by adults, though he does attempt to be polite to them.
  • Cool Mask: Just like other Goha employees, Goha 66 and the other members wear the company logo as a mask, but with the yellow part stylized into a "6".
  • Egocentric Team Naming: He is Goha 66, leader of Goha 66.
  • Evil Old Folks: He is 66, and his plan is to take over Goha before retirement.
  • Evil Plan: Goha 66's plan is to take over the Goha Dueling computer to take over Goha and then dueling. The computer is located in Maximum Mountain. And it turns out to be for nothing since although the computer is there, it doesn't have enough power/is too old to actually contain all the dueling information, which had since been shifted to the moon.
  • Evil Versus Evil: Wants to take over Goha, which brings him in conflict with the President Drone.
  • Laughably Evil: His first appearance shows him making a Deal with the Devil with Hunt and being shadowed and intimidating, but he's just as wacky as the rest of the show, going through a silly gymnastics routine with his group - that were hidden behind him to it looked like he was sprouting them.
  • Red Herring: They're presented as the Man Behind the Man to the Goha Rush Duel Team Battle Royal, unmentioned in the Goha database despite being Goha employees. They're really just a bunch of silly retirees who were manipulated as Mimi was by an unknown individual.
  • Shrouded in Myth: No one knows who this group is and where they came from with even Neiru being unable to find any information of them anywhere in Goha Corp's database. Turns out it's because the group is actually a group of older Goha staff that want to do one last big attempt at power before they retire. The reason they aren't in Goha's database is because they formed privately and usually kept their normal masks on over their Goha 66 masks.
  • Unwitting Pawn: For the individual behind the tournament, who for an unknown reason intends to uninstall Rush Duels. It's later suggested to be Otes.

Garden of Providence (セツリの庭, Setsuri no Niwa)

    Nail Saionji

Nail Saionji (西園寺ネイル, Saionji Neiru)

Voiced by: Yoshitsugu Matsuoka (JP), Y. Chang (EN)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/nailsaionji.png

A genius programmer who oversees Goha's duels, with an eccentric fascination for "providence". He uses a Cyberse deck built around summoning the Maximum monster, Yggdrago the Heavenly Emperor Dragon Tree by using the "tron" series of monsters to dig through his deck for the cards that make up his ace monster.

  • Affably Evil: Nail is a bit of a Softspoken Sadist, polite and never raising his voice, and does not act maliciously, simply doing his job and pursuing his agenda.
  • Arc Villain: Of the Maximum arc, setting Yuga and co. up against a gauntlet where their Dueling accounts would be banned if they lose a total of 6 times.
  • Awesome by Analysis: He was able to reverse engineer the programming of Rush Duels by analyzing Kaizo's data and Yuga's actions & behavior, which allowed him to discover a gap in the code, which allowed him to implement Maximum Summon into it.
  • Child Prodigy: A genius programmer capable of hacking Goha Corp at the age of 3, and at the age of 11, is the one overseeing their entire system.
  • Constantly Curious: In the dub, his buzzword was changed from "providence" to "curiosity." Most of the stuff he does is recontextualized as him wanting to satisfy his never-ending curiosity and tinkering with stuff to see what will happen.
  • Cool Chair: He rides around in Sebastian, his sentient robotic throne and butler.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: He floors five of the six Tops of Hexagon by his lonesome off-screen. He also makes short work of Yuga in their duel in no more than three turns with the Maximum summoned Yggdrago.
  • Cyberspace: Uses a Cyberse Deck, and fittingly the Garden Entrance is V6, or VRAINS Series 6.
  • Defeat Means Friendship: After his loss to Yuga, he comes to the conclusion that Rush Duels are the future, and tries to encourage Master Goha to accept them. Later he sends Sebastian to be the Rush Duel Club adviser.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: Though Arata Arai appears to work for him, Neiru finds his cowardice and cheating to be pathetic. And later more hilariously rather than subject Yuga and co. to a Boss Rush he has them go home after the first duel because it is late and they have homework to do.
  • Evil Virtues: A whole lot of them:
    • Cooperation. Nail manages to get a lot of people working with him on his plan.
    • Creativity. He is the creator of Maximum Summoning, taking even Yuga by surprise.
    • Diligence. He discovers the possibility for Maximum Summoning by diligently studying Yuga's code for Rush Duels, and finding a hole in them. Also, his whole life seems to be devoted to his work for Goha.
    • Equality. Nail puts himself under the same condition Yuga and his friends are for the final duel, saying that it would make no sense if the stakes weren't the same.
    • Generosity. Giving Luke, Romin and Gakuto their accounts back was in no way part of the deal, but he did it anyway as a show of respect for Yuga.
    • Honesty. There is no lie or deception involved in Neiru’s whole scheme.
    • Honor. Following what was said before under "equality", Neiru accepts having his account erased after losing to Yuga. He also despises Arai for his cheating, and makes the challenge for Yuga's group fair, giving them time to rest after each duel instead of using his influence for a boss-rush.
    • Kindness. He is fair to everyone involved in his schemes, underlings included, and doesn't hold losing against them. Particularly noticeable with Sebastian, who expected a You Have Failed Me and to be discarded and replaced for his defeat. He also sends the challenges to the team over time and in their free time, openly taking care of leaving them time to rest properly and go to school.
    • Loyalty. To Goha. For all his threat, Nail is a Punch-Clock Villain acting out of loyalty to Goha's principles, not personal spite.
    • Patience. Just look under "kindness": Neiru takes his time with his plan.
    • Responsibility. The whole arc is kicked off by Neiru trying to solve the Rush Duel issue on Goha's behalf.
    • Resourcefulness. A variation; Nail will not resort to tricks or cheating, but that won't mean he will not use the ample resources Goha lets him have at his disposal to achieve his goal.
    • Temperance. Neiru is second only to Mr. Goha himself in the company, and can seemingly control the whole city. He uses none of this power to indulge himself, but only cares about doing his job right, though he does utilize the various trap doors throughout the city to bring Yuga and his friends to his garden after they’ve had enough time to rest.
    • Valor. Nail is perfectly willing the have the duel end in a draw to stop Yuga knowing fully well that it will mean he will lose his Goha account together with Yuga if necessary.
    • Vigilance. Yuga found out in their second duel how Crazy-Prepared Neiru could be. Yuga had to literally create his own Maximum Summon on the spot to win, and Neiru still managed to counter it. Twice.
  • Fair-Play Villain: Nail doesn't cheat, and even deliberately gives himself 5 penalties since Yuga has 5, as it wouldn't be fair if he wasn't playing under the same terms.
  • Foil: To Yuga, both are highly intelligent 11-year-olds with the ability to manipulate machines, but while Yuga seeks to oppose Goha's reign over Goha City, Neiru enforces Goha's regulations. Both use their skills to enjoy themselves, but while Yuga creates machines and devices for amusement and helping himself or his friends, Nail has used it for disturbing activities such as crashing Goha satellites with a troubling smile on his face. Also, Yuga is more upbeat and friendly, while Neiru is cold, mysterious, and calculating.
  • Graceful Loser: He takes his loss against Yuga in stride, and acknowledges the potential of Rush Duels.
  • Guest-Star Party Member: With Luke sleeping off his last duel with Tiger and Yuo being the only sibling left, he uses his authority as president to enlist Nail into dueling for his side against Yuga’s group.
  • Heel–Face Turn: After losing to Yuga, he barged in a meeting between the Tops of Hexagon and President Goha to defend Rush Duels in addition to becoming a valuable ally who helped Yuga and his friends discover the Heavy Cavalry Duel Club's secret, even lending Yuga Yggdrago. He later accepts Yuga’s invitation to join his team for the Team Battle Royal and aids him in preventing Rush Duels from being uninstalled.
    • Heel–Face Revolving Door: Downplayed in the Goha Sibling Arc where he is once again an antagonist, but instead a Punch-Clock Villain due to still being the Goha Duel Superviser, and once Yuo makes him duel, he quits Goha after his loss to Asana.
  • I Gave My Word: After he loses to Yuga in their second duel, Nail returns Kaizo's original data to him as promised.
  • Intelligence Equals Isolation: Due to his intelligence and demeanor, he has always been alone aside from drones, and despite Yuga and Roa's attempts, he still feels alone, especially after seeing Asana with her club.
  • Knight of Cerebus: His appearance sets some real stakes for the first time in the series, facing the group with the prospect of elimination (something we later finds out is extended to everyone considered to be in their friend network, including high-ranking Goha officials like Otes and Mimi), and when we see him actually duel, not only does he reveal a new summoning method (and a very impressive ace monster), he gives Yuga his most brutal defeat yet and manages to temporarily break him.
  • Light Is Not Good: Nail has pale blond hair, white clothes, uses LIGHT monsters and his ace is a Heavenly Dragon.
  • The Magic Poker Equation: Nail’s deck is set up in such a way as to be an aversion. His ace monster is effectively divided across three specific cards and he must have all three in his hand at once to Maximum Summon it at full strength, so almost every other card he uses allows him to draw a certain number of cards, then send the same number to his Graveyard or back to his deck. With this level of filtering, it's clear that his strategy aims to increase his odds of gathering Yggdrago's pieces through sheer ability to dig through his deck; however, as anyone who's attempted to do so in the actual game can attest, his ability to consistently draw into all three components of Yggdrago while only having 1 copy of each, and also having the right cards in the right order for his draw engine, borders on uncanny.
  • Noble Demon: Despite his antagonism, Nail is Affably Evil, and displays a large array of Evil Virtues.
  • Not So Above It All: Upon being introduced to Tahayasty, Nail is instantly hooked on their ramen, claiming to it be Providence, and even stays behind for half of Yuga's duel with Hunt simply out of his new fascination.
  • "Not So Different" Remark: Nail himself views this as being the case between him and Yuga, as he notes that they are quite similar. Considering that both of them are young prodigies with strong ideals about dueling and similar personalities, he's not wrong. The difference comes in Nail being an enforcer for Goha, whereas Yuga is against it.
  • One-Hit Kill: After destroying Seven Roads Magician, he defeats Yuga with a single direct attack from Yggdrago the Heavenly Emperor Dragon Tree.
  • Our Dragons Are Different: Neiru’s signature card is Yggdrago the Heavenly Emperor Dragon Tree, a draconic Cyberse-type monster based on the World Tree Yggdrasil.
  • Pet the Dog: After Sebastian's loss, he assures the robot that he doesn't intend to replace him, which brings the robot to happy tears.
  • Planimal: Yggdrago, along with some of his stronger monsters, though his original monsters look a bit more seed-like.
  • Punch-Clock Villain: He actually rather likes Rush Duels, but tries to eliminate them simply because it's his job to do so. In the Goha Siblings arc, he provides the Dueling courses for the Goha Siblings because they're the company presidents and are well within their rights to order him to do so, though he stresses his impartiality.
  • Riches to Rags: After his loss to Asana, Nail decides to quit Goha. By his next appearance, he’s shown to be working at Tahayasty as a delivery boy, though he doesn’t seem to mind it much.
  • Secret Weapon: He possesses a summoning method never-before-seen in the world of Duel Monsters, in the form of Maximum Summon.
  • Taking You with Me: He would've been able to force the second duel between him and Yuga to end in a DRAW with the trap card Annihilation. He doesn't get the chance, however, as Yuga boosts Magnum Over Road's ATK to the point that the difference between it and Yggdrago's ATK far exceeds that of Nail’s 4000 LP, allowing Yuga to fully deplete his opponent's LP before he can activate Annihilation.
  • Techno Wizard: He's been a genius programmer since the age of three... where he hacked into Goha satellites and caused them to rain down on the city.
  • Trap Door: Is able to use them to kick out failed minions and bring Yuga and co. to the Garden. Somehow he can even make it appear in Roa's apartment to grab him and Romin. Fittingly he even has "Trap Hole" in his deck.
  • Troubling Unchildlike Behavior: A three-year old hacking into, and destroying a good chunk of Goha's satellite network with an enormous smile is quite disturbing, and is the reason his parents tried to get him into Duel Monsters so that he would not try it again.
  • Villain Forgot to Level Grind: Remaining the same despite several episodes passing means you're probably gonna fall behind when everyone else is trying to improve. Case in point, he loses to Asana when the latter incorporates her subordinates' aces into her deck and uses cards built around their presence rather than use their ID cards to recreate her Maximum Monster.
  • Wake-Up Call Boss: While Yuga faced tough opponents before, Nail not only managed to actually defeat him, but reveal a summoning condition unknown to even himself.
  • White Hair, Black Heart: Downplayed in that he is merely a very pale blond, but he is a Creepy Child and the antagonist Duel Overseer. He is also Affably Evil and displays a lot of Evil Virtues as well.
  • Word Salad Philosophy: He has his own eccentric interpretations of what providence means to him, and can't go on for a minute without linking whatever facet of life imaginable to providence.
  • Xanatos Speed Chess: As his conflict with Yuga escalates, Nail makes it so that the lost duels are not just limited to the four core characters, extending the penalties to Yuga's allies and Roa. This then leads into a Xanatos Gambit when Yoshio duels Mimi. As both ultimately register as Yuga's friends, it does not matter who wins or loses; either way, Yuga and the rest of his associates take a penalty each.
  • Your Answer to Everything: He believes that all of which exists in the universe revolves around providence.

One of Nail Saionji's subordinates. He uses a Cat deck, with its monsters based on the "-Eyes Dragon" monsters. He is later revealed to be a student at Goha 5th, part of the Mad Scientist Club.

  • The Bus Came Back: Returns in the Team Battle Royal arc still assisting Nail.
  • The Faceless: He wears a cat mask that obscures the top half of his face.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Although never malevolent, he helps with the Rush Duel Robot and later with the Dueling Insects Club.
  • Mad Scientist: Part of a club themed on scientists that worked with animals.
  • Punny Name: "Schrödinger" is also the surname belonging to an Austrian physicist who proposed Schrödinger's Cat.
  • Verbal Tic: Appropriately, he ends his sentences with "-nya", Japanese onomatopoeia for "meow".

    Sebastian (Seatbastian)

Sebastian (セバスチャン, Sebasuchan)

A massage chair drone proclaiming itself as the butler and throne of Nail Saionji. He uses a DARK Deck with 0-ATK monsters based on chairs and thrones with a focus on milling his own deck.

  • Back from the Dead: Sometime before episode 38, Nail managed to retrieve Sebastian's body with him completely restoring Sebastian during the episode.
  • Barely-Changed Dub Name: The dub adds two letters to his name to make "Seatbastian".
  • Battle Butler: A massage chair drone, butler, and duelist.
  • Computers Are Fast: Drones can communicate together in .05 seconds he and Kaizo use this to plan how to avoid the Machine Calvary Club, while he stalls Chikako Finger.
  • Cool Chair: He is one, and his deck is spearheaded by Throne of Darkness.
  • Heel–Face Turn: At Nail’s prompting, he becomes the Rush Duel Club Adviser, Yuga and co. taking it in stride...except Kaizo who is still pissed about stealing his data.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: He stalls Chikako Finger so Kaizo can escape to tell Neiru about Yuga and friends, and ultimately pays for it by losing the duel and shutting down.
  • No-Sell: Discussed. As a Drone, he's immune to the effects of Monster Reborn, which only works on human opponents.
  • One-Hit Kill: Sebastian attempts to wipe out the entirety of Yuga's LP in a single attack with Dayu, the Dark King of Chairs, but fails due to Yuga lowering its ATK with Curtain of Sparks. The failure leads to a Villainous Breakdown.
  • Our Demons Are Different: His Throne of Darkness is a Fiend, despite being, well, a throne.
  • Robot Maid: Gender-Inverted as a Robot Butler.
  • Serious Business: Chairs and their tract through human history, and how he is the king of chairs.
  • Tin Man: Despite his claims that he doesn't have emotions, Sebastian feels Pride, Rage, and Loyalty, even being driven to tears by Neiru’s refusal to replace him after his loss.
  • Transforming Mecha: Though he normally takes the form of a throne, he transforms into a humanoid form when Dueling Yuga.
  • Undying Loyalty: Sebastian sees Nail as the only individual worthy of the privilege of being a butler, throne, and massage chair for.
  • Villainous Breakdown: The moment his One-Hit Kill against Yuga fails, he completely loses his cool and does everything in his power to stop him from facing and taking down Neiru.
  • You Have Failed Me: Inverted and subverted, while Sebastian lost to Yuga and told Neiru to scrap him for his failure, Neiru told him that he doesn't need a replacement for him.

    Sorako Noodle (Celestia Noodlina)

Sorako Noodle (ヌードル宇宙子, Nūdoru Sorako)

Voiced by: Chitose Morinaga (JP), Daisy Guevara (EN)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/noodlesorako.png

The owner of Cosmic Catering, a ramen restaurant based in Nail Saionji's Garden of Providence. She uses a DARK Pyro deck based on Outer Space and Noodles.

  • Alien Among Us: A supposed alien working in a ramen resturant, which the cast left unsure if she was or not by the end. Further complicated with the debut of her Identical Stranger, Chikako Finger and later Kakoko Sweets.
  • Aliens Speaking English: Or Japanese in this case.
  • Alternate Character Reading: "Sorako" is read as "space child/alien", but pronounced as "sky child".
  • But Now I Must Go: Sorako is taken back to her planet by the mothership after her loss to restore her UFO energy.
  • Casting a Shadow: Her monsters are DARK and use space-based attacks.
  • Demoted to Extra: She's one of the Standard Duelists (i.e., generic PVE opponents) in the SEVENS area of Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Links.
  • Dub Name Change: To Celestia Noodlina in the English version of Yu-Gi-Oh! Rush Duel: Dawn of the Battle Royal.
  • Edible Theme Naming: Her surname is "Noodle".
  • Exact Words: Sorako stated that her UFO uses LP as energy, which makes Menzaburo think she wouldn't be able to fly back to her planet anymore if her LP hit 0 in a duel. Later it turns out that while emptying her LP indeed emptied her UFO's energy, it doesn't mean no one from her planet will pick her up.
  • Flying Saucer: Her clothes resemble one and she can somehow retract her head and limbs inside to resemble one fully. At first it is shown to be held up by wires, but later it appears to be capable of flight on its own.
  • Human Aliens: Although assumed to be cosplay, at the end of her duel she is picked up by the Mothership to replenish her LP and refuel.
  • Some Call Me "Tim": Sorako's real name apparently can't be pronounced by humans, so she chose an Earth name for herself to go by.
  • Space Clothes: Not only does her outfit look like something out of a cheesy scifi, it can even become her UFO.
  • Verbal Tic: "Beep-bop" and "beep-boop" for stereotypical alien noises ("waa woo wee" in the dub).
  • Wingding Eyes: Her eyes sport a pair of small stars.
  • Wizards from Outer Space: Her ace, Cosmic String Noodle-Druidess.

    Arata Arai (Buff Grimes)

Arata Arai (洗井 新太, Arai Arata)

Voiced by: Ryōta Ōsaka

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/araiarata.png

The leader of the Washing Club at Goha Third Elementary School, and a dishwasher for an AI restaurant.

He plays a Washing-themed deck which focuses on recycling his spell cards by returning them to the deck, and later, reducing his opponent's Deck to 0 by forcing his opponent to draw cards.

  • Brought to You by the Letter "S": He wears a face mask bearing the kanji for "wash" (洗).
  • Character Tic: He vigorously "cleans" his own Duel Disk after setting a spell card, covering up the fact that he's swapping out the card for another and subsequently activating it to gain an unfair advantage against his opponent.
  • Cheaters Never Prosper: Cheats during his duel against Romin by swapping his set cards with copies of his spell card White Foam - Bleach Motor, and still loses. He also cheats in his duel against Luke, attempting to completely empty his deck, but fails once again.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: Loses his second Duel when Luke uses all the cards he forced him to draw to destroy his only monster and Tribute Summon 3 high-level Dragon monsters for a combined direct attack.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: He was working for Nail, but his annoyance over Romin breaking a lot of expensive dishes is understandable.
  • Mildly Military: Several of his monsters and his spells are military-themed.
  • Neat Freak: He has a tendency to vigorously "clean" his own Duel Disk, which also doubles as a cheating tactic that he uses in his duel against Romin and Luke. Hilariously he is beaten in this department by Mimi, who when forced to wash dishes outdoes him and forces him to rewash his own as they had a spot.
  • Saying Too Much: After losing to Luke, Yuga tricks Arata into disclosing the whereabouts of the Door of Providence, which is located in #66 of the underground's V6 area.
  • Scary Teeth: After he unmasks himself, he's shown to have shark teeth.
  • Smug Snake: A self-satisfied creep and a cheater that intended to keep Romin washing dishes forever.
  • Verbal Tic: He has a tendency to exclaim "Wash!" in Gratuitous English.

Goha Siblings

    In General
The Goha Siblings are the true Presidents of the Goha Corporation, having been busy attending Goha Space Elementary. They return to destroy the Rush Duel Robot.

  • Affably Evil: Despite trying to destroy Rush Duels, most of the siblings are rather friendly with Yuga and his friends and take their defeats or victories in stride.
  • Badass Cape: They wear stylish capes, in a more regal appearance.
  • Big Bad Duumvirate: They all share the title of president and are the Arc Villains for season 2. However Yuo seeks to be the only Big Bad.
  • Collapsible Helmet: Their facemasks can retract so they can eat. The Epilogue reveals they've stopped wearing them altogether.
  • Color-Coded Elements: The color of their Goha uniforms matches the color associated with the attribute they use.
  • Demoted to Dragon: Yuo's plan, intending on forcing his siblings out. He succeeds by having Yuga's group defeat Yuro, Yujin, and Yuka while deposing of Yuran for treason.
  • Didn't See That Coming: Yujin's Man of the Sea motif and new deck surprises all of them. Later, Yuo revealing himself to have a second badge to keep his presidential authority after losing a duel results in him being able to depose of Yuran.
  • Dwindling Party: Enforced by Yuo, who forces any of his siblings who lose to resign as president. His plan seems to count on his siblings losing, shown by his annoyance when Yuka and Yuran win their Duels. This is because he wants to take over Goha himself.
  • Elemental Motifs: Each of them represents an Attribute, with Mimi bringing attention to it in episode 80.
  • Elemental Powers: Each of them use a deck focused around a specific attribute. Yuga Goha is the sole exception as he uses monsters from all six attributes.
  • Enemy Mine: Suggested by Yuran in order to curb Yuo's ambitions, but both Yuro and Yujin refuse as it is their problem.
  • Everyone Has Standards:
    • Yuo forcing Yuro to resign after losing to Yuga is something the others protest as cruel. Later on, the other siblings start planning to find a way to stop Yuo from taking over Goha, as his ambition is getting out of hand.
    • And Played for Laughs with them being embarrassed by Yujin becoming a Man of the Sea.
  • The Ghost: The sixth sibling is absent and the others seem to be as confused by their whereabouts as the audience is.
  • Grade-School C.E.O.: The true presidents, despite being elementary school students. This is deconstructed, in that while they were picked for their talents, they are still children and prone to being overwhelmed by the job and being distracted by their hobbies.
  • Heel–Face Turn: The four of them end up turning against Yuo to help Yuga and Co, with Yuo joining them a few episodes after a Heel Realization. Although Yuo still wants to end Rush Duels.
  • Karmic Jackpot: Minus Yuo, the siblings get their jobs back due to Yuga making a deal with Yuo, in exchange for him not having to resign.
  • Mythology Gag: All of the Goha Siblings call back to a particular Yu-Gi-Oh! series: Yuro, being a Turbo Duelist and using WIND monsters, references Yu-Gi-Oh! 5Ds, Yujin references several Yu-Gi-Oh! GX characters, from how he found his deck to his ace monster, Yuka uses a baseball version of Yuma's Deck from Yu-Gi-Oh! ZEXAL, Yuran’s use of Normal Monsters references Yu-Gi-Oh!, Yuo's entertainment theme and monstrous Fusion Monsters call back to Yu-Gi-Oh! ARC-V, and [[spoiler: Yuga Goha using multiple attributes, but his ace monsters being DARK-attribute is one to Yu-Gi-Oh! VRAINS.
    • Their position as presidents of their series' MegaCorp in spite of their young age is similar to Seto Kaiba and Reiji Akaba being the presidents of Kaiba Corps and the LEO Corporation respectively.
    • Being a group of six characters each themed after one of the game's main six attributes and using a deck focused around said attribute references the Ignis from Yu-Gi-Oh! VRAINS. This is further reinforced by the DARK-aligned members from both groups using a multi-attribute deck and taking up the role of main antagonist after the LIGHT-aligned member's plans were foiled.
  • Not-So-Harmless Villain: After Yuro and Yujin's defeat, Romin makes the mistake of thinking beating the siblings will be easy, only to be proven wrong when Yuka defeats her. This is followed by Yuran defeating Gakuto and Yuo defeating Yuga.
  • Out-Gambitted: Led by Yuran, he and the other older siblings conspired to stop dueling and let Yuo beat himself. However, even though it looked like their plan would come into fruition anyways due to Yuo losing to The☆Lukeman, he revealed that he had the badge—and therefore the Presidential Authority—of the Sixth Sibling. Yuo also revealed that he knew of Yuran's and his other older siblings' secret meeting, kicking Yuran off the ship and assuming full authority for Yuran committing treason by conspiring against the president with those stripped of their rank.
  • Personality Powers: Yuro is the breezy speed-obsessed WIND duelist, Yujin is the dynamic sea-obsessed WATER duelist, Yuka is the passionate about baseball FIRE duelist, Yuran is the reserved EARTH duelist, Yuo is the theatrical LIGHT duelist. And Yuga Goha is the brutal DARK duelist, though only his ace monsters belong to said attribute.
  • Punch-Clock Villain: Aside from the legitimately malicious Yuo, and to a partial extent Yuran, who was unnecessarily brutal, the siblings particularly Yuro, Yujin, and Yuka are Affably Evil at worst and have zero malice for Yuga and Co, with Yuro and Yuka actually liking them.
  • "Super Sentai" Stance: The Siblings have a habit of striking poses together when talking to others, as seen in Episodes 54 and 64.
  • Theme Naming: Each of them has 'Yu' in the front of their name when translated to English, matching a pattern in English with previous protagonists. This gets Lampshaded by Mimi when she realizes that Yuga’s name follows the same theme, leading her to wonder if he might be the missing sixth sibling.
  • Victory-Guided Amnesia: The five of them sealing away Yuga Goha caused them to lose their memories of the event, with only faint memories of having done so.
  • Villains Out Shopping: Episode 55 shows them in the mundane activity of breakfast and getting ready for the day. Episode 60 later shows Yuro and Yuka eating ramen together while talking about Yuo.

    Yuro Goha

Yuro Goha

Voiced by: Takuya Eguchi (JP), Alejandro Saab (EN)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/yuro.png

The eldest of the siblings, a Riding Duelist that uses a WIND Deck. After resigning, he becomes a student at Goha 7th.

  • Badass Biker: On a Hover Bike no less, able to race well in the dark.
  • Badass Normal: The theme of his deck. He does have effect monsters in it, mind you, but it revolves around normal monsters powered up by his field spell.
  • Blow You Away: Uses a WIND Deck to go with his speed.
  • Graceful Loser: He takes his loss to Yuga well, even when Yuo forces him to resign in disgrace, since now he has time for himself.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Downplayed. While he does help the heroes and is against Yuo, he still does want to beat Yuga in another duel.
  • Honor Before Reason: Yuran suggests that they postpone the duels against Yuga's group in favor of dealing with Yuo, but Yuro believes that it is a family issue and thus they must solve it themselves. Unfortunately, their plan to stop Yuo fails thanks to Yuo still having the unknown sixth sibling's badge, enabling him to boot off Yuran.
  • Large Ham: He's shown to be quite enthusiastic during his duel with Yuga.
  • The Leader: While the siblings all share the title of President, Yuro often takes a leadership position among them as the oldest sibling.
  • Mellow Fellow: Yuro has a rather breezy personality and is juxtaposed with Yuga, his opponent, in some shots, a Mellow Fellow himself.
  • Mr. Exposition: After being forced to resign as president, Yuro pops up, sometimes out of nowhere when one of his siblings duels to explain their strategies or personalities.
  • Mythology Gag:
    • Him dueling Yuga in a "Riding Rush Duel" is an obvious one to Yu-Gi-Oh! 5Ds, albeit with hover bikes.
    • His use of WIND monsters is also one to the Yusei Fudo and Yu-Gi-Oh! ARC-V's Yugo, turbo duelists with WIND monsters as their respective aces.
  • Nice Guy: Besides being a graceful loser, he shows no malice at all during his screen time, and when the duel starts he acknowledges the perks of Rush Duels, saying they fit his style.
  • Resigned in Disgrace: Yuo callously forces him off his position upon losing to Yuga, but he accepts the outcome as it allows him to embrace the newfound freedom he otherwise wouldn't be able to enjoy while in a position of power.
  • Smarter Than You Look: Despite his breezy behavior, he is pretty quick to realize what Yuo actually wants, and makes sure to let Yuran and Yuka by proxy know.
  • Token Good Teammate: Most of the Goha Siblings aren't exactly evil, but Yuro joins Goha 7th after his duel with Yuga to ostensibly to learn his weakness, though he offers them aid on occasion, especially when rescuing them from Yuo.
  • Unskilled, but Strong: Cyber-Tech Alligator, one of Yuro's two ace monsters, is this by having 2500 ATK on par with some Level 7 and above monsters while only level 5 but is a Normal Monster with no abilities. Yuro's field spell can even make it even stronger by increasing its ATK to 3000.

    Yujin Goha

Yujin Goha

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/yujin_0.png

The second eldest of the Goha siblings, a self-proclaimed Man of the Sea, using a WATER Deck of Sea Serpents that he received from a dolphin.

  • Devious Dolphins: While the dolphin that gave him his deck was friendly and he is Affably Evil at worst, Dolphin King Iruqua is rather scary-looking.
  • Got Me Doing It: Yujin seems to have taken on Nanami Maguro's Verbal Tic of ending some of his sentences with "-tuna" after spending some time with him on his boat, as seen in Episode 62.
  • Honor Before Reason: He shares this opinion with Yuro in that the Siblings must deal with their familial issues themselves.
  • I Got Bigger: In the two year timeskip in Episode 92, Yujin is a lot taller and muscular than his siblings especially Yuro who is the only one older than him.
  • Large Ham: An overdramatic Man of the Sea that introduces himself with a song about how he loves the sea.
  • Making a Splash: Yujin's deck contains only WATER monsters.
  • Mythology Gag:
    • Yujin obtaining a new deck after meeting with a dolphin echoes Judai/Jaden receiving his Neo-Spacian deck after meeting with Neo-Spacian Aqua Dolphin in Yu-Gi-Oh! GX, and his hair somewhat resembles Judai's.
    • His beach wear is also reminiscent to that of Fubuki/Atticus, also from GX.
    • He's also shown using Levia-Dragon - Daedalus, where it was first used by the Admiral from GX.
    • And of course, the Man of the Sea motif and mannerisms is a call back to the original WATER duelist, Mako Tsunami/Ryota Kajiki.
  • Sea Monster: His ace, the famous Levia-Dragon Daedalus.
  • The Un-Reveal: His Sea Serpent deck is new, surprising even his siblings, making it unknown what he originally played, though going by how each sibling plays a deck focused on a particular attribute, it’s likely he already played a WATER themed deck and simply shifted to a Type focus.
  • Walking Shirtless Scene: In his duel, showing himself to be quite well-built.

    Yuka Goha

Yuka Goha

Voiced By: Akari Tadano (JP), Daisy Guevara (EN)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/yuka_6.png

The eldest sister of the Goha Siblings. She plays a FIRE Warrior decks with her monsters being baseball-themed versions of monsters used by Yuma Tsukumo from Yu-Gi-Oh! ZEXAL.

  • Combat Commentator: She provides commentary during her duel with Romin as if they were playing baseball.
  • Dark Action Girl: She is both a passionate baseball enthusiast and player as well as a skilled duelist, as she is the first Goha Sibling to win a duel, by defeating Romin.
  • Et Tu, Brute?: She feels deeply betrayed by Yuo admitting he plans to get rid of his siblings, insisting that the only president should be him, while she believes that all six of them should be president.
  • Evil Counterpart: To Romin, normally appearing as the sane woman but having her own quirks with food and wackiness from her hobby and demeanor. Episode 64 shows her to even have a similar temper to Romin, expressed right to her, to boot.
  • Friendly Enemy: After defeating Romin, her skill in baseball and their intense duel impresses her enough that she tries to convince her to legitimately sign up for her team, only for an upset Romin to refuse.
  • Large Ham: She is just as passionate about baseball as her brother Yujin is about the sea.
  • Mythology Gag:
    • The most overt case of the siblings, primarily towards Yu-Gi-Oh! ZEXAL's Yuma Tsukumo, with her Hot-Blooded nature and passion during a duel, as well as her monsters being based on the monsters used by Yuma, such as Gagaga Magician and Number 39: Utopia.
    • The effect of her ace card Player No. 39: Home Run Hitter, which allows it to gain 2500 ATK, effectively doubling its original ATK, can be seen as a nod to Yuma's most famous combo of using Double or Nothing! after Utopia negated its own attack to double its ATK and allow it to attack again. Even the name of her ace card’s attack is one to Yuma’s Kattobingu! catchphrase. It's also arguably based on the effect of Number S39: Utopia the Lightning, who uses two overlay units to double its ATK to 5000, similar to how this version tributes two monsters to get the same effect.
    • The way she summons Home Run Hitter is also one towards how Yuma would Xyz summon Utopia.
    • The effect of her Player No. 99: Grand Slam Dragon references the effect of the original Number 99: Utopic Dragon, which could revive a Number monster and had 4000 original ATK.
    • The dub changes the name of Home Run Hitter’s attack to Rising Slam Slash, a nod to Utopia’s own attack, Rising Sun Slash.
  • Not So Stoic: Aside from her Hot-Blooded love of baseball, she is legitimately saddened and betrayed when Yuo admits he plans to be the only president, breaking down crying at her loss to Roa and calling him stupid, because she knows that Yuo's plans are closer to succeeding.
  • Obsessed with Food: She ignores Yuro's speech in favor of stuffing her face with ramen, and later eats Romin's curry, finding it delicious while ignoring Yuo's rant.
  • Only Sane Woman: She is initially the only Sibling to question Yuo's actions. Downplayed by her rather dramatic love of baseball and food obsession.
  • Passionate Sports Girl: She’s a passionate baseball enthusiast, buying her own team and even treating her Duel with Romin as if they were playing baseball instead.
  • Playing with Fire: She plays a FIRE Warrior Deck.
  • Pop-Cultural Osmosis Failure: She has no idea who RoaRomin is, claiming she doesn't listen to pop.
  • The Smurfette Principle: The only female among the siblings and her first duel is a Designated Girl Fight against Romin who she points out as the best of the quartet at Baseball.
  • Sore Loser: Downplayed. She bawls her eyes out as she complains about losing to Roa, though it was less about the loss and more about Yuo's betrayal.
  • Villainous Breakdown: Played for Drama, where episode 61 has her losing it because of Yuo's cold betrayal, and ends up breaking down crying at the end of her duel with Roa, knowing that Yuo got what he wanted.

    Yuran Goha

Yuran Goha

Voiced by: Soma Saito

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/yuran.png

The second youngest brother of the Goha Siblings. He plays a defensive EARTH deck which relies on card effects to destroy his opponent's monsters and inflict damage.

  • All for Nothing: Yuran planned on asking Yuga's group for help in stopping Yuo in the first place, only to instead follow his older siblings' suggestion to stop Yuo themselves. After Yuran got deposed of for committing treason by conspiring against the president with those stripped of their rank, Yuran and the older siblings asked for help from Yuga's group anyways. In other words, had Yuran just asked Yuga's group for help himself without holding that secret meeting, Yuo would not have had any grounds to remove Yuran.
  • Asshole Victim: Conspires agaisnt Yuo and takes away his presidental badge when he loses, only for Yuo to have a second.
  • Badass Normal: Similar to Yuro he focuses on normal monsters, but unlike Yuro he only uses normal monsters with spell and trap support.
  • Beware the Quiet Ones: He is calm and quiet, and a skilled duelist as he defeats Gakuto and brings the score to a tie of 2 - 2. Not to mention he brutally beats down the Goha 2nd Kendo Team.
  • The Brute: The darkest sibling after Yuo that physically beats down an entire Kendo team to bait Gakuto into a duel, whereas not even Yuo involved bystanders to draw out Yuga and Co.
  • Combat Pragmatist: Aside from Yuo he's easily the most pragmatic sibling; he struck down the entire kendo tournament so he could Duel unimpeded, is very willing to work with Yuga and his friends, and willingly committed treason by meeting with his deposed siblings.
  • Counter-Attack: The true purpose of his deck, baiting Gakuto into thinking his only strategy was a Stone Wall, defeating his Shield & Sword with Sword & Shield.
  • Didn't See That Coming: He was completely blindsided by Yuo having the sixth sibling's badge.
  • Dishing Out Dirt: He plays an EARTH Deck.
  • Falling into Jail: Yuo literally does this to Yuran for committing treason against Goha after revealing that he knew about Yuran's and the older siblings' secret plan to overthrow him by hacking The Proprietress. After being repaired by Yuga, The Proprietress frees Yuran.
  • Hyper-Awareness: He listens to someone's voice to determine their strategy, allowing him to counter Gakuto. He apparently was also aware of Yuo’s plot to be the sole Goha president while he was bragging over his victory over Yuga using Fusion.
  • Kick the Dog: Interrupts a legitimate kendo tournament, defeating the entire Goha 2nd Kendo Team and dumping them in the alley, just to set up his Kendo Rush Duel with Gakuto.
  • Master Swordsman: For Kendo, able to use his Counter-Attack strategy to defeat the entire kendo team on his own.
  • Mythology Gag: Like the rest of his sibling, he has several identifiable callbacks to the previous series:
    • His serious and stoic demeanor and use of Normal Monsters is one towards Yu-Gi-Oh!'s Yugi Muto/Atem. His use of Millennium Shield is likely one to the Millennium Items.
    • His play style revolving around defense mode monsters is also one towards Yu-Gi-Oh! ARC-V's Noboru Gongenzaka, though Yuran contrasts him by using several Trap Cards, while Gongenzaka specifically excluded them from his Deck.
    • His partnership with Proprietress is one towards Yu-Gi-Oh! VRAINS's Yusaku Fujiki and Ai; a serious and stoic human who has all the Dueling skills, and a very loud and outspoken AI who does most of the talking.
  • Only Sane Man: Compared to his siblings, Yuran is more calm and collected, even regarding his hobby of kendo as he remains reserved. On the other hand, he attacked innocents to get them out of the way for his duel, something his siblings didn't do.
  • Pet the Dog: Yuran is shown to be the most ruthless of the presidents, barring Yuo, but he’s also shown to truly care for his siblings, such as informing Yuro, who had snuck onto their ship, about Yuo’s plan rather than force him out, and when he was believed to be the sole president left, his first act was to reinstate his siblings, until Yuo revealed he had the sixth sibling’s badge and used his authority to remove Yuran for treason.
  • The Quiet One: He doesn’t really talk much, letting the Proprietess Drone do the talking for him, until he is done listening anyway.
  • Stating the Simple Solution: Suggests abandoning the current duel matchups and work together with Yuga to stop Yuo, but Yujin and Yuro refuse. Yuka follows up with a suggestion to just have Yuo lose the next duel by not showing up to it, a plan that Yuran follows...Unfortunately, though Yuo loses his duel with Luke, he has a second badge that lets him keep his presidency and have the authority to remove Yuran.
  • The Stoic: Among the siblings, he is the most quiet and reserved. The only emotion he expresses is a slight annoyance when Guruguru runs in with one of the kendo club members he had previously defeated.
  • Stone Wall: His ace card is Millennium Shield, a Level 5 monster with 0 ATK but an impressive 3000 DEF. His strategy is primarily centered around defending while using burn damage and turning the opponents offense against themselves to win.

    Yuo Goha

Yuo Goha

Voiced by: Daiki Yamashita

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/yuo.png

The youngest and strongest of the Goha Siblings, and the mastermind behind the incident. He plays a LIGHT deck featuring monsters of various types, including Cyborg-Type Fusion monsters.

  • Amnesiac Dissonance: After Guruguru wipes his memories of dueling, he reverts to a happier mental state.
  • Amnesiac Resonance: The use of familiar terms seems to stir something within him both times after his memories were sealed.
  • Arc Villain: The mastermind behind the Goha Siblings, and the one the Goha President Drone answers to. However the one behind the Fusion cards was The☆Lukeman, and his appearance derails Yuo, though he is still the one holding the Rush Duel Robot hostage.
  • The Bad Guy Wins: An interesting example as it's through no actions of his own. Although the Super Rush Robot is saved and his siblings are reinstated as president, he's allowed to keep his position, Yuga joins the Goha Corporation as the Goha Siblings had wanted him to, and his improving relationship with his siblings apparently leads to them leaving the company in his charge while they return to Goha Space Elementary, and on top of that he's still trying to destroy Rush Duels.
  • Berserk Button:
    • Not being treated seriously, becoming enraged and attacking them when Yuga is relieved he didn't create the Fusion card. He also gets riled up during Yuga and The☆Lukeman‘s duel, believing them to not be taking it seriously.
    • Romin’s curry quickly becomes this to him after it accidentally flooded Sixross, forcing it to crash. Gakuto uses this to convince Yuo to play along with him and Romin to try and help him, then later on to have him buy them ice cream.
  • Circus of Fear: The theme of his deck.
  • Contrasting Sequel Antagonist: An arc variant within SEVENS itself, he's one for Asana's role in the third arc. Unlike Asana, who ideologically stands against Goha, Yuo is one of the leaders of the organization. Unlike the straightforward and honorable Asana who immediately attacked Yuga and co. once she had the opportunity to, Yuo works from the shadows, uses others as proxies for his dirty work, and uses a variety of manipulative tactics. Their deck thematics notably contrast one another. Unlike Asana's construction-themed Wyrm monsters that look like a natural mix of dragons and machines, Yuo's theater-themed Cyborgs seem much more forced and unsettling. While Asana became an ally of Yuga in the end and saw her club's machines repaired back to working order, Yuo through his hiring of Yuga as a Goha employee ended up giving Yuga the means to install custom-made formats that forcibly put an end to his hopes of destroying Rush Duels for good.
  • Crazy-Prepared: He knew Yuran and the siblings would get back at him, so he hacked the Proprietress Drone and had the Sixth Siblings' authority to turn it around and kick Yuran off the ship.
  • Cyborg: Not him, but his Fusion Monster Metallion Asurastar is the first Cyborg-Type monster in the entire franchise.
  • Didn't See That Coming:
    • Like the rest of his siblings, he was completely blindsided by Yujin's new Man of the Sea attitude. He also didn’t see the Rush Duel Robot acting on its own to repair itself happening.
    • He didn't expect The☆Lukeman to have a Fusion and the new High Dragon type, though he did have a backup plan for his own loss. He later flat out admits after the arc ends that the appearance of The☆Lukeman is what completely derailed his plan.
  • Didn't Think This Through: He hoped that he would be able to control Yuga as a Goha employee. He never stopped to think that Yuga would use his newly acquired position to complete his own goals, and thus finds that his plan to merge the Rush and Goha formats is stopped by, of all things, a request lineup.
  • Dirty Coward: Yuo was not above tricking Luke into turning against Yuga's group by making him think he is the Sixth President, allowing Yuo to rack up more wins for the Goha side while making sure he won't risk losing again and therefore truly losing his presidency.
  • Establishing Character Moment: Coldly forces his elder brother to resign after his loss, and is then shown to be distrusted by his siblings.
  • Even Evil Can Be Loved: Despite his callous willingness to throw his siblings under the bus, Yuka still wants all 6 of them to remain the presidents, even as she intends to get in his way.
  • Even Evil Has Standards:
    • Played for Laughs, but he finds Luke calling him Big Bro to be creepy and weird, and also wrong because Luke is older.
    • And seriously in that he backed up his siblings to defeat Yuga Goha in the past.
  • Evil Cannot Comprehend Good:
    • He thinks Yuga comes to his ship for revenge and is utterly bamboozled when he learns Yuga just wanted to know where he got Fusion because it excited him so much.
    • Later he is completely baffled by his siblings being nice to him and not even making him help clean up the curry, later throwing a party for him. It provokes a Heel Realization.
  • Evil Laugh: He does this a lot. It's a trait he and the President Drone share.
  • Evil Puppeteer: A wicked Chesssmaster that plays his siblings and heroes as puppets, and uses Perverse Puppet and Monster Clown in his deck.
  • Faux Affably Evil: He plays himself off as polite and wanting his siblings to show their merit as presidents, but acts like a jerk to all of them and outright admits to enjoying Yuga's suffering during their duel.
  • Forgotten Birthday: He forgot his birthday, and a flash of memories suggest that isn't all he and his siblings have fogotten.
  • Fusion Dance: Uses the first Fusion Monster seen in SEVENS, albeit with a different Japanese name.
  • Hate Sink: In the Goha 6 Siblings Arc. Unlike Roa, who had something of a Freudian Excuse, or Nail and Asana, who were Punch Clock Villains, Yuo is generally portrayed a smug jerkass who cares little for his siblings, delights in causing pain and frustration, and actively tried to murder the heroes in a fit of rage. The following arc paints him more sympathetically.
  • Heel Realization: Learning his siblings still care about him after all he did, makes him realize he was a jerk and reconcile with them with the help of Gakuto and Romin. Although he still wants to end Rush Duels.
  • Hidden Agenda Villain: Which seems to require him be the only president considering he forces his siblings to resign with a loss. He later confirms he wants to be the only one in control of Goha.
  • Hunter of His Own Kind: This is the strategy his ace monsters use. They have powerful effects that counter monsters of the same Type as their non-Machine Fusion Material.
  • It's All About Me: An easy way to interpret his motivations. Yuo ultimately wants power for himself, and will throw out his siblings to get it, and lord his power over others, being angry when they show the capability of fighting back. He's just an extremely selfish person through and through.
  • Jerkass: He's arrogant, condescending, and very willing to backstab his older siblings.
  • Karma Houdini: Suffers no repercussions for his machinations in the Goha Siblings Arc. Not only does he keep his position as president, but he even gains Yuga as an employee in exchange for reinstating his other siblings.
    • Karma Houdini Warranty: This proves to ultimately be a short-lived victory that destroys his second plan before it can even get off the ground in the long-term. The following arc sees Yuo having to endure Romin and Gakuto in order to learn how to say 'thank-you', crashing his personal helicopter during a Goha zombie party courtesy of Hunt taking his role too seriously, and essentially being upstaged by Nanaho Nanahoshi, who Yuga sees as an actual threat. Yuo ends up being stuck calling Yuga enough to be on his answering machine and then falls victim to a Road that Yuga installed on his house phone to help his mom block unwanted calls, and as he attempts to unveil his new plan to destroy Rush Duels, he learns that hiring Yuga gave the inventor the means to install a custom format program that makes trying to destroy Rush Duels completely meaningless and impossible. As the cherry on top? He duels the far worse Yuga Goha and suffers memory loss in the process, though he was dueling for more altruistic means by that point.
  • Kick the Dog: Cruelly forces Yuro to resign to the protest of the other siblings. Downplayed with Yujin since he already knew it when going in.
  • Knight of Cerebus: Compared to the other siblings who brought fun gimmicks to their duels, Yuo's puppet creepiness is played completely straight with no laughs attached. The fact that he has an actual agenda compared to the others shows that he's bad news.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: Played for Laughs, but after he twists Luke over to his side, he then has to deal with Luke's obnoxious behavior, which gives him no end of frustration.
    • Zigzagged at the end, While he is forced to release the Rush Duel Robot and gets Yuga as an employee, he is forced to restore his siblings in exchange for not having to resign. It's played much straighter as the next arc progress, as detailed above with Karma Houdini Warranty.
  • Light Is Not Good: His deck is composed of LIGHT monsters, however he is far from a good guy, easily being the biggest jerk in the series so far.
  • Loophole Abuse: Despite his loss to Luke and being stripped of his status as president, Yuo is able to retain his authority by revealing he held onto the sixth sibling’s badge, allowing him to remain as president and use Yuran’s collusion with the other siblings to exile him from the ship.
  • Love Redeems: His siblings still caring enough to celebrate his birthday triggers a Heel Realization and joining them in their Heel–Face Turn. Although he still wants to end Rush Duels.
  • Manipulative Bastard: Even losing against Luke does nothing to hinder his plans. It actually furthers them.
  • Man of Kryptonite: Both his Fusion Monsters have effects to take advantage of Yuga's Warrior-types and Luke's Dragon-types.
  • Monster Clown: Has an evil circus theme, and many of his monsters appear as evil creepy clowns.
  • Mythology Gag: Several toward Yu-Gi-Oh! ARC-V and Yu-Gi-Oh! ZEXAL.
    • His love of theatrics and his deck's circus motif is one to Yuya, as well as his introducing of a new summoning method. He also first Duels in a big top circus tent very similar ot the one Yuya Dueled Reiji/Declan Akaba in.
    • His clown deck of LIGHT Monsters is also similar to Dennis's Performage deck.
    • Yuo's enjoyment of his opponent’s suffering and use of Fusion summoning is reminiscent of Yuri.
    • His ace Metallion Asurastar being a Cyborg Fusion monster summoned using a Machine monster and a monster of another type is the same as Barrett's Beastborg cards. Aesthetics-wise, it looks like Yu-Gi-Oh! ZEXAL's IV's Gimmick Puppets and Sora's Des-toys.
    • His actions throughout the series so far, in particular his hope to get rid of all of his siblings to take power for himself, also bring Vector to mind, as Yuo's disrespectful and malicious attitude towards his siblings closely match with Vector's own animosity and independent action from the other Barian Emperors. His desire to remove their presidency status and claim complete control over Goha are also a Lighter and Softer form of how Vector killed his teammates to gain their power and rule over everything, ultimately only differing in lethality. His connection with the unknown sixth sibling is also not unlike Vector's history with Nasch, though unlike Vector, Yuo does not know of the identity of the sixth sibling.
  • No Good Deed Goes Unpunished: Trying to help Guruguru accidentally undoes his work to seal Yuga Goha away, since the siblings' shared amnesia made him forget this was a bad idea. And thanks to losing to Yuga Goha, Yuo ends up suffering from more severe memory loss himself.
  • Obviously Evil: Compared to his siblings, who are neutral at worst, Yuo often acts insincere most of the time and his hobby isn’t played for laughs like theirs is. He's still less evil than Yuga Goha though.
  • Orcus on His Throne: After losing to The☆Lukeman, Yuo spends the rest of the arc on the sidelines, recruiting Luke and Neiru to duel for him so that he doesn’t risk another loss himself.
  • Sinister Suffocation: What was Yuo’s reaction to Yuga being excited about Fusion instead of frustrated and despaired? Why, to attempt to ensnare Yuga and his friends in an Iron Maiden, blast them off of Sixcross, and suffocate them in the vacuum of space. If Tiger had not been there to rescue them, Yuga and his friends really might have been trapped and asphyxiated.
  • Smug Super: He's insufferably smug when he has the upper hand, and as the strongest of the Goha Siblings, he often does. Once he has Fusion, he believes he can never lose. Luke having a Fusion is something he doesn't take well.
  • Token Evil Teammate: While Yuran does have a Kick the Dog moment and the other Siblings are Affably Evil to Punch-Clock Villains at worst, Yuo is openly malicious, even to his own siblings.
  • Used to Be a Sweet Kid: According to his siblings, Goha Yuga erasing his memories reverts him back to his original personality, albeit he still creepily plays with marionettes.
  • Villainous Breakdown: Utterly loses it when The☆Lukeman loses, and would have destroyed the moon if it weren't for Kaizo crashing back to earth and taking out the Sixcross with Romin's curry.
  • Villains Never Lie: Downplayed Trope. He lies plenty of times to his siblings before defeating Yuga. Afterwards he honestly tells Yuga the truth that he found Fusion instead of making it and rather openly admits to Yuka and Yuran that he plans on getting rid of all his siblings. And then Yuo lies to Luke about him being the Sixth President in order to twist him to Goha’s side.
  • Xanatos Gambit: His plan to become the sole president of Goha. He just has to wait until all of his siblings lose their duels and are forced to resign. And if he is the one losing? It's even better, since he has the Sixth Sibling's seat, guaranteeing him to be still in the game, and can use it to bait the other to act against him so he has an excuse to forcefully remove those who haven't lost already. In the worse case scenario the siblings manage to achieve six victories without losing many members...Which is still a win, since it still means Rush Duels are gone and Goha is stronger than ever.
  • You Have Failed Me: Averted Trope. Despite being pissed that Nail lost to Asana, his dialogue implies he wasn't going to fire him, instead being surprised by Nail quitting.

The Sixth Goha President (MAJOR SPOILERS

Yuga Goha

Voiced by: Yuri Ise

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/yuga_goha.png

The sixth Goha Sibling, and the true identity of Guruguru. His brutality led to his siblings opposing him after he tried to use Monster Reborn to brainwash people, with Yuo using the card to seal his memories. Nanaho Nanahoshi used a Monster Reborn to try to bring him back, but only succeeded in brainwashing Guruguru into a feral state, as the card required an accompanying chant. Yuo unwittingly freed him while trying to help Guruguru.

He uses a Reptile deck based on Chameleons which focuses on using the effect of his cards to lower his own Life Points and accumulate cards in the graveyard to strengthen his ace monsters. To avoid decking out because of his strategy, Yuga Goha uses a 60-cards deck.

  • Amnesiac Dissonance: Guruguru was a Nice Guy and Shrinking Violet while Yuga is very much not that.
  • Artifact Alias: Everyone continues to call him Guruguru after the reveal, either out of habit or to avoid confusion with Yuga.
  • Ax-Crazy: He's described as being brutal in flashbacks and explicitly desires to bring chaos to the world.
  • Big Bad Wannabe: For all his power and threat in the end he's the lesser threat next to Otes.
  • Card-Carrying Villain: A destruction type, compared to Yuo's control type. And this is his goal, to cause chaos and strife between dueling formats, he doesn't even particularly care about the rush dueling itself.
  • Chaos Is Evil: Contrasting Yuga's creative chaos and freedom, Goha Yuga represents chaos of destruction and despair.
  • Contrasting Sequel Antagonist:
    • To Z-ARC from ARC-V. At first glance, he seems like an older Yuga Ohdo, not unlike how Zarc before his fall looked like an older Yuya with white-and-green hair, but unlike Zarc, who was a Shadow Archetype or Evil Counterpart to Yuya as a corruption of his ideals and struggles, Yuga Goha is a person who wants to cause only chaos and cruelty, a complete antithesis to what Yuga stands for. While Z-ARC's Dragon deck was All Your Powers Combined in regards to the Yu-boys' dragons, Yuga Goha's Reptile deck's only parallel with Yuga Ohdo's deck is the multi-Attribute theme, and even then, he relies primarily on a single DARK ace monster instead of the varied berth Yuga uses outside of Sevens Road Magician. Perhaps the greatest contrast however are their motives; Z-ARC became evil due to his powers going out of control thanks to the goading of a bloodthirsty audience, while Yuga is a naturally cruel and evil person who would encourage the type of dueling that drove Z-ARC to madness.
    • To Ai from VRAINS, as the DARK member of a group of six with a contentious relationship with the LIGHT member. However, unlike Ai, instead of him being a Well-Intentioned Extremist (a development that had only been brought on due to grief and extenuating factors after the battle with Lightning), he is Eviler than Thou when compared to Yuo from the very beginning and was sealed away.
    • He's technically one to all of the antagonists of SEVENS preceding him. Unlike them, he seeks no desire to control (Roa) or destroy (Nail, Asana, and Yuo) Rush Duels, with his ultimate goal being to cause nothing more than havoc and chaos between duelists, not caring how it is done, only that is being done at all.
  • The Corruptible: As a younger child, he was sweet and at worse a bit of a Sore Loser that cried when he lost, but being exposed to the cutthroat, unsportsmanlike behavior of the duel circuit caused him to adopt that behavior, until he became completely evil.
  • Dark Is Evil: In contrast to Yuo being Light Is Not Good, and he wears a largely black outfit with a black duel disk. His ace monster, Predator Gunleon, is notably of the DARK attribute.
  • Do Not Call Me "Paul": Averted. Even after his true identity is revealed, he doesn’t correct anyone when they call him Guruguru instead of Yuga.
  • The Dreaded: Towards Tiger, having been on of the opponents he defeated before his memories were sealed, to the point she tried to stop Yuga and Luke from helping him in his Guruguru guise.
  • Evil Costume Switch: Wears a black and grey coat instead of the Goha uniform his siblings wear, but switches back to his uniform after his Heel–Face Turn.
  • Eviler than Thou: Makes his Dueling debut by defeating Yuo, previously one of the more evil characters on the show, in a cruel and vicious manner far more brutal than anything Yuo had done up to that point.
  • For the Evulz: His motivations involve little more than causing havoc and chaos between duelists for its own sake. Subverted after his loss to Luke, as he becomes obsessed with finding out why the latter can No-Sell his abilities.
  • Genre Savvy: Once he's done with Monster Reborn he has the ninjas destroy the card printing machine and destroys all his copies of Monster Reborn, to ensure that the protagonists can't use it to reverse what he has done.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard:
    • He was first stopped by Yuo using Monster Reborn against him, the very card he'd intended to manipulate people with. He returns the favor after being freed.
    • Discussed by Nail during Yuga Goha's duel against Yuga Ohdo/Luke. Nail notes at one point of the duel that 38 of Yuga Goha's cards are in his GY, which would leave him with two cards left in his deck... except Nail forgot that a deck can contain a maximum of 60 cards, which is the capacity of Yuga Goha's deck; thus, a deck out doesn't occur on his next draw.note
    • His defeat and sealing of Otes ends up backfiring when Nanaho determines that he was the sole thing working to keep Dueling stable with all of the incoming dueling formats, and removing him is now causing problems with everyone's ability to duel as a result of the system being bogged with excessive formats, screwing over his plan to cause chaos and strife through dueling. Subverted when Otes reveals he never lost his memory, but used that as an excuse to let all the dueling formats run wild.
  • Identical Stranger: Downplayed. He looks like an older Yuga Ohdo, the only differences being the lower half of his hair is white, and his bangs are red instead of yellow. There's no indication of any biological relationship between the two, however.
  • Laser-Guided Amnesia: After being freed, he goes around dueling and erasing memories of Rush Duels and Yuga and Co with Monster Reborn, inflicting it on the secondary cast. The laser part fails when when he fails to erase Luke and Roa’s memory, but manages to erase Romin, Gakuto, Nail, and Asana's memories instead.
  • Logical Weakness:
    • His Monster Reborn is scary, but it can only work in a duel or on a human opponent, leaving the deck and accountless Nail and drone Sebastian safe to warn Yuga and Co about what is going on.
    • Deckwise, his deck requires a lot of milling his own deck. So he avoids this by being one of the few duelists to play with 60 instead of 40 cards.
  • Mythology Gag: Being associated with the DARK-attribute among his group but using a deck focused around all six main attributes is one to Yusaku Fujiki from Yu-Gi-Oh! VRAINS. Like Yusaku, he also Used to Be a Sweet Kid before something traumatic caused him to change into a more ruthless individual.
  • One-Steve Limit: Averted, he and Yuga Ohdo have the same first name, apparently by sheer coincidence, but it leads everyone to assume that Yuga Ohdo is the lost Goha Sibling.
  • Pet the Dog: A minor case, but he actually does appear to care for Luke since Luke cared for him as Guruguru, saying bye to him in an almost apologetic manner when he leaves after his revival.
  • Properly Paranoid: He fears something about Luke instinctively, and since Luke was imune to the mind wipe, his feelings are validated.
  • Red Herring: It was alleged that Yuga Ohdo was the sixth Goha Sibling, Yuga Goha, because the two share the same given name plus the fact that all of the siblings have "Yu" in their given names. This turns out to be false, as Swirly reveals himself to be the actual Yuga Goha after recovering his memories.
  • Reptiles Are Abhorrent: He uses a Reptile deck and is the most brutal of the siblings.
  • Sadist: He enjoys the suffering he inflicts on his opponents and believes that duels are for showing strength.
  • Sealed Evil in a Can: He or his memories were sealed within Gurugruru.
  • Sore Loser: He doesn't concede his loss against Luke, reiterating that he'd only uphold his word if it were Yuga Ohdo he lost to and no one else.
  • Token Evil Teammate: By the Epilogue set two years after Yuga Ohdo's final duel with Otes, he's still rather sadistic and threatens to seal people's memories when he duels, but his siblings have him on a much tighter leash and aren't afraid to Dope Slap him if he goes too far.
  • Used to Be a Sweet Kid: Before he became evil, his personally actually was like Swirly, but being exposed to unsportsman duelists and being oversensitive led to his darkness.
  • Unwitting Pawn: Otes used his desire to cause chaos to crash the duelling system altogether.
  • Vile Villain, Saccharine Show: SEVENS has not been without its moments of drama or darkness to be sure, but many of the situations, problems, and villains were generally wacky or nuanced in execution, and the tone of the series generally remained fairly light-hearted. Enter Yuga Goha, whose personality and motives are truly twisted and vile, and who truly brings the darkest moments to the show.
  • Walking Spoiler: It's hard to talk about him without referring to his previous identity as Swirly.

  • Old Retainer: For the Goha Siblings.
  • The Stool Pigeon: Since she is a drone, she can be hacked and Yuo uses her to spy on his siblings.
  • Undying Loyalty: For the Goha Siblings as a whole except Yuo, going to Yuga and Co for help when Yuran is held by Yuo.
  • Voice for the Voiceless: Talks for Yuran, before he drops the act.
