Alan is a Dark-type Trainer from Azalea Town, Johto. His starter Pokémon is a Murkrow. His final team is a Honchkrow, and a Houndoom.

  • Handicapped Badass: He is blind, but that doesn't stop him from being a strong battler, nor does it hinder him much in challenges.

     Ludwig Von Malmar

Steel-type

Ninth out. 10th place. Was eliminated via double elimination twist in Episode 10. Returns in Hoenn Havoc.

Ludwig is a Steel-type Trainer from Vermillion City, Kanto. His starter Pokémon is a Beldum. His final team is a Metagross. In Hoenn Havoc his starter Pokémon is a Shieldon. His current team is a Bastiodon and a Skarmory.

  • Butt-Monkey: The poor guy runs into a lot of awkward situations in Hoenn.
  • Can't Take Criticism: It makes him cry.
  • Non-Gameplay Elimination: Despite winning against Trixie, he was eliminated in a double elimination regardless of the outcome. This was used by Theo to get Ludwig to complete in his place.
  • He's Back!: He returns in Hoenn Havoc after Theo drops him off to serve as the Steel-type representative in his place.
Odd Friendship: With Nightshade.

  • Fun Personified: The biggest joker in the cast, bar none.
  • The Runner-Up Takes It All: She was the first trainer eliminated from her season, but she became the host of the aftermath show and ended up becoming very popular.

Monty is a Water-type trainer from the sea, though his hometown is Vermillion City, Kanto. His starter Pokémon is a Wooper. His final team, is a Quagsire, a Poliwrath and a Kingdra.

  • Abusive Parents: His father was not only a criminal, but he was also an alcoholic with his mother being a shut-in. While it was never stated what his father actually did, it may probably be for the best.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: He may have the biggest heart in this game, but certain things could set him off. Particularly Seymour and surprisingly, Samson, for the thought that Samson had stolen Gareth's net.
  • Black-and-White Morality: Downplayed as it didn't show up, but he strongly disliked criminals. Because of this, he is one of Seymour's biggest enemies and was terrified of Samson when hearing about his delinquent friends. Though he gets over this when he actually meets them.
  • Big Fun: Well, he is big in terms of size, not girth, but otherwise this trope plays straight with his boisterous yet friendly personality.
  • The Big Guy: He is the largest person in the cast.
  • Big Guy, Little Guy: The big guy with Gareth's little guy.
  • Dude Magnet: He winds up gaining the affections of Samson and Logan over the course of the season.
  • Gentle Giant: He's noted to be a very large man, but he's a big lovable lug.
  • Hidden Depths: He's a phenomenal singer. He reveals he really only sings when he's in a sad mood.
  • Large Ham: Can come off as this due to his lack of volume control.
  • Love Triangle: He is in one where Samson and Logan have a crush on him and he is none the wiser.
  • Making a Splash: He is a Water-type trainer. Yeah, 'Nuff said.
  • Nice Guy: His heart is bigger than he is.
  • No Indoor Voice: As he had spent most of his life living in the sea, he never figured out what is an indoor voice is.
  • Odd Friendship: With Gareth.
  • Parts Unknown: He is listed as being from "The Sea". Although his actual hometown (Vermillion City) is known.
  • The Run Away: He ran away from his alcoholic father.
  • Street Urchin: He used to be one before becoming a sailor.

     Yuri-Chan Hanazawa

Seventeenth out. 2nd place. Lost the championship battle against Monty in episode 18.

Yuri-Chan is a Fairy-type trainer from Ecruteak City, Johto. Her starter Pokémon is a Snubbull. Her final team is a Granbull, a Togekiss and an Azumarill.

  • Action Girl: She didn't start out this way due to her panicky nature, but she soon develops into this due to her Aikido training and she slowly-but-surely develops courage.
  • All of the Other Reindeer: She is picked on by the other Kimono Girls and purposefully kept with them just to make themselves feel better.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: She became so determined to win the Kimono Challenge, that she had subdued and threatened Marta, who tried to sneak up on her to purposefully get her to throw her away. And she was absolutely furious at Logan for winning said Challenge that she worked so hard on.
    • After so much pent-up angry about being harassed by the Kimono Girls, she had finally called them out for their horrible behavior and even criticizes some of their flaws at their job.
  • Break the Cutie: She used to be a happy child. But then, the Kimono Girls and their teacher had cruelly bullied her.
  • Cute Bruiser: Despite her fragility in appearance and personality, she is a skilled Aikido master and flips anyone who sneaks up on her over her shoulder.
  • The Fair Folk: She is a Fairy-type Pokémon. She wants to be a Kimono Girl just like her mother, particularly a Fairy-type Pokémon.
  • Formerly Fat: She used to be quite the large girl before attempting to become a Kimono Girl. However, the school's harsh training had slimmed her down.
  • Freudian Excuse: Being treated so horribly by the other Kimono Girls led to her anxiety issues.
  • Grew a Spine: She had finally told off the Kimono Girls who had horribly bullied her.
  • Guile Hero: She had been noticeably been cutthroat since the second half of the story, begging everyone to let RISE as her partner for the Elite 4. At first, she seemed like she was overly forgiving and wanted to give her another chance. Turns out, she just wanted to use her element to her example.
  • Hard Work Hardly Works: She had spent a good chunk of the Kimono Challenge trying to win so she could get an Eevee and even get the respect of the Kimono Girls. However, she had lost to Logan and this created a wedge between their friendship.
  • Honor Before Reason: She wouldn't join in the fight against Rise because of the said battleground in on holy grounds. Sweetie, your opponent is tearing off the tower, trying to hypnotize a Legendary Pokémon and is a deeply-religious person herself and yet she is joining in the fight.
  • Lovable Coward: Most of the time she is either screaming, running or crying, but is otherwise a cutie.
  • Nice Girl: The poor girl would never hurt a fly. Most likely because she had startled them.
  • Older Than They Look: She is fifteen, though she had been mistaken for younger a couple of times. She is NOT happy about it.
  • Prone to Tears: It doesn't take many insults to make her cry. Francis took this far too well.
  • Sailor Fuku: Wears one to the show.
  • Shrinking Violet: She is painfully shy with huge anxiety issues.
  • Tomboy and Girly Girl: Develops this friendship with Ruth in the latter's final episode.
  • Took a Level in Badass: Big time. Compare the fragile girl who cowered before everything to the savvy trainer she became.

     Simun Sun

Flying-Type

Sixteenth out. 3rd place. Lost to Yvonne in Episode 17.

Simun is a Flying-type trainer from Castelia City, Unova. His starter Pokémon is a Swablu. His final team is an Altaria, a Golbat and a Gyarados.

  • Alliterative Name: Simun Sun.
  • Beware the Silly Ones: He's a joker who constantly makes fun of himself, but he's far more competent as a trainer than that description would lead you to expect.
  • Blow You Away: He is a Flying-type trainer. While he doesn't seem like it, he is quite strategic and knows that the Flying-type is usually accompanied by a second-typing.
  • Brutal Honesty: After watching his girlfriend, Marta get injured, he has no qualms trying people how he felt without a joking tone to it.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: Averted. He is the only one in the final Seven who DOESN'T have a tragic one. Because of this, he believes that he doesn't deserve to win and attempts to throw his Elimination match against Samson. Keyword being attempt.
  • Distressed Dude: He, along with Vecepia had gotten kidnapped by Seymour and the Dark Riders until they were rescued by their fellow contestants.
  • Everyone Has Standards: Simun might love bugging people, but once he realizes how low Seymour is willing to sink, he refuses to associate with him any further.
    • He also believes that Yuri-Chan being the butt of jokes from the Kimono Girls was unwarranted.
  • The Gadfly: He loves getting under people's skin and watching their reactions.
  • Gone Horribly Right: He tries to throw his Elimination match against Samson by having his Magikarp fight and constantly do Splash. However, Magikarp soon evolved into Gyarados and fed up with being a punching bag, he one-shot Samson's Zoroark with a Hyper Beam.
  • Heroic Self-Deprecation: Does this to himself constantly for laughs.
  • Insult Comic: He loves insulting others, even, no, especially himself.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: He'll snipe at anyone for a laugh, but he's a good guy at heart.
  • Official Couple: Eventually becomes this with Marta.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: After finding out that Keira may have been the thief and his girlfriend had gotten injured, he was frighteningly hostile towards her.
  • Ship Tease: With Marta.

     Logan Diamond

Grass-Type

Fifteenth out. 4th place. Lost to Yuri-Chan in Episode 16.

Logan is a Grass-type trainer from Nimbasa City, Unova. His starter Pokémon is a Foongus. His final team is an Amoonguss, a Meganium, and a Leafeon.

  • Berserk Button: Marta. She's the only person that has managed to make him lose his temper thus far. Justified because she is actually his sister and he blames her for what happened to their mother.
  • Chick Magnet: As expected from a handsome boy band member, he has a lot of female fans. And even a few male fans as well.
  • Famed In-Story: He is a popular pop boy band sensation in-universe.
  • Gayngst: He is gay and has trouble coping with it. This gets especially bad when he develops feelings for Monty.
  • Green Thumb: He is a Grass-type trainer. Not surprising as he is a Nature Lover.
  • Grew a Spine: It is stated that Logan has always done what his manager told him to do, but it wasn't until late in the season where we see how much of a controlling Jerkass the aforementioned manager was. When belittling him and trying to take him back, Logan said he had enough and he, along with everyone else (even Chris) yelling at him to back off.
  • I Just Want to Be Normal: Part of the reason why he came on the show. However, he seems to have a large time fitting in.
  • Innocently Insensitive: He never means to cause people harm, but there are times when he lacks awareness about other people's feelings and accidentally hurts them as a result.
  • Love Triangle: He is in one where he and Samson have a crush on Monty.
  • Nature Lover: As expected from a Grass-type trainer, he loves nature and wrote several environmental songs.
  • Sibling Rivalry: With Marta, with the two of them blaming each other for abandoning their sick mother and leaving her to die.
  • Teen Idol: Logan is a member of the popular boy band Five Vines.

     Samson Grey

Dark-Type

Fourteenth out. 5th place. Lost to Simun in Episode 15.

Samson is a Dark-type trainer from Nimbasa City, Unova. His starter Pokémon is a Poochyena. His final team is a Poochyena, a Scrafty and a Cacturne. Though Word of God confirms that Samson's "Poochyena" is a Zorua, which later evolved into Zoroark.

  • Bad Liar: When he tries to hide the fact that his starter Pokémon is a Zorua. But he does this so poorly, one-by-one, people were realizing the truth.
  • Combat Pragmatist: He is a Dark-type trainer. Mainly because his friends back home are all Dark-types trainers themselves and got him into it as well.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: He's a Dark-type trainer, but he's completely harmless.
  • Delinquents: Not him, but his friends back home, who are implied to be a gang of troublemakers who are willing to "take care" of anyone who picks on him.
  • Everyone Knew Already: When he was confused why Marta upfront said he had a Zorua, everyone decided enough was enough and told him they already knew in different reactions.
  • Freaky Fashion, Mild Mind: He dresses like a textbook punk but he is actually one of the nicest people in the cast.
  • Grew a Spine: After being Seymour's Chew Toy, he had finally started to stick up to him and even eliminated him in an Elimination Battle.
  • Horrible Judge of Character: He really shouldn't have tried to become friends with Seymour.
  • Love Triangle: He is in one where he and Logan have a crush on Monty.
  • Morality Pet: He seems to be this to his friends back home. He casually mentions them committing not-entirely-legal actions, but notes that they're always nice to him and protect him.
  • Older Than They Look: Would you really believe that lovable darkly-dressed Samson is 21?
  • Pay Evil unto Evil: He and his friends are a group of vigilantes who fight criminals on a regular basis.
  • Pyrrhic Victory: He had won the Bug-Catching Challenge. However, he did it with a bug-catching net Seymour stole from Vecepia which she gave to Gareth. So, he is made out to be a cheater by Monty, straining their friendship. And in an act of revenge, Gareth stole his Everstone for his elimination battle with Cassandra.
  • Shrinking Violet: Not as much as Yuri-Chan but he is definitely timid.

     Ferrum Justice

Twelfth/Thirteenth out. 6/7th place. Lost to Monty and Samson in Episode 14 alongside Yvonne in a double elimination battle.

Ferrum is a Steel-type Trainer from Anistar City, Kalos. Her starter Pokémon is a Honedge. Her final team is an Aegislash, a Forretress and a Skarmory.

  • Break the Cutie: During multiple points in the story, she has confused and called many other females for Yvonne, the other girl in the program Ferrum attends. When asked by the other girls why she does this, she breaks down admitting Yvonne's been gone for a year and she keeps hoping when she sees the supposed Yvonne, it's really her. You know it's bad when the usual over-the-top Ferrum becomes filled with despair. Turns out later in the story, Keira, Ferrum's great friend, IS Yvonne.
  • Extra-ore-dinary: She is a Steel-type trainer as she is working under Wikstrom's training program, an Elite Four Steel-Type member.
  • For Great Justice: No matter the time or place, she's always seeking to bring justice to the land!
  • Insult Backfire: When insulted (usually by Seymour), she goes on a long-winding speech on how her knight training had proved the opposite before walking away pleased that she had invoked this trope when in reality, she just bewildered said taunter into silence.
  • Knight in Shining Armor: From her outfit to her ideals to her name to even her surname, she is this. For bonus points, her starter is Honedge.
  • Large Ham: Very much so. This turns out to be a huge advantage for her in the Radio Station challenge since she makes everything sound incredibly interesting.
  • Official Couple: With Yvonne.
  • Two Girls to a Team: Is one of the two only girls in Wikstrom's training program, besides another girl named Yvonne. Turns out, this is important information as not only was Yvonne supposedly missing for a year, she was also Keira.
  • Ye Olde Butcherede Englishe: Talks like this.

     Keira Nguyen

Ghost-Type

Twelfth/Thirteenth out. 6/7th place. Lost to Monty and Samson in Episode 14 alongside Ferrum in a double elimination battle.

Keira or rather, Yvonne is a Ghost-type trainer from Hearthome City, Sinnoh. Her starter Pokémon is a Spiritomb. Her final is a Spiritomb and a Dusknoir.

  • Brainwashed: At first, it seemed like she was the Big Bad, but it turns that she was another brainwashed pawn. Not only that, but she was Yvonne, Ferrum's close friend all of these years.
  • Cool Shades: Her big dark glasses.
  • Extreme Doormat: She unquestioningly takes any order that anyone gives her. This leaves quite a few of her fellow competitors concerned.
  • Lipstick Lesbian: A prim and proper maid that develops romantic feelings for Ferrum. Or actually Ferrum's teammate, Yvonne, this whole time that had already developed feelings for Ferrum.
  • Literal-Minded: She takes her job as a maid so seriously that when Vecepia had asked her to wait outside a store, she does exactly that. While standing in the middle of the sidewalk.
  • Meido: She is a very diligent maid.
  • Neat Freak: As expected from someone who takes her job as a cleaner seriously, she's constantly cleaning any stains and messes she sees.
    • An interesting variation. Yvonne is not this, but even after being freed from brainwashing, that aspect of Keira had stuck with her.
  • Nice Girl: She is respectable to everyone and is more than willing to complete their requests, even if it is Francis.
  • Official Couple: With Ferrum.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: When Seymour and Simun were speaking out everyone's embarrassing secrets, she broke into tears (though more for the humiliation of her master than herself) and when Ferrum calmly told her to go back to her booth, Keira refused and asked Ferrum to stay with her.
    • Then again, considering that she is actually Yvonne, this was never really her true personality.
    • After being rescued by the Unown and being called out by Simun, she snaps out in a furious fashion that indicates that she had been holding it in all of this time.
  • Soul Power: She is a Ghost-type trainer. Mainly so her Pokémon could look out for her and try to stop her from overworking through the night.
  • Workaholic: Takes her job so passionately that she rarely sleeps which results in constant headaches and sometimes even passing out.

     Vecepia Clermont

Fighting-Type

Eleventh out. 8th place. Lost to Marta in Episode 5. Returned in Episode 7. Lost to Ferrum in Episode 13.

Vecepia is a Fighting-type trainer from Undella City, Unova. Her starter Pokémon is a Pancham. Her final team is a Pongoro.

  • Bare-Fisted Monk: She is a Fighting-type Pokémon. Because she is naïve and innocent, she needed bodyguards to protect her and using Fighting Pokémon may the best bodyguards.
  • Bribing Your Way to Victory: Her dad pays off Chris to let her return to the game after her elimination.
    • Her dad tries to do this again the second time she had gotten eliminated, but Vecepia called him out and stated that despite him buying all of the expensive stuff for her, all she ever wanted was to spend time with him.
  • Butt-Monkey: Every episode save for Episode 5 she is attacked by a Water Pokémon. While the first time is Played for Drama, the rest of said attacks are more light-hearted.
  • Damsel in Distress: She, along with Simun had gotten kidnapped by Seymour and the Dark Riders until they were rescued by their fellow contestants.
  • Innocently Insensitive: While she doesn't mean to rub it in everyone's faces, she has a tendency to talk about all of the expensive things she has, irking most of the cast. Especially since there is a homeless boy in the cast.
  • Nice Girl: Well, while she has a tendency to annoy the other contestants at the start, especially Gareth, she genuinely doesn't have a mean bone in her body.
  • Screw the Rules, I Have Money!: Not her directly but after getting eliminated, she returns two episodes later after her father had bribed Chris into letting her back on the show. The other contestants (minus Monty and later Keira)... are not fond of this act.
  • Sheltered Aristocrat: She had spent most of her life living a sheltered life so because of this, her comments could come off as... selfish. She is rich to the point of absurdity, but she is genuinely a cheerful and sweet girl.
  • Take Me Instead: She intends to pull this when Gareth had became eliminated, mainly knowing that he deserved to be here more than her.

Marta is a Psychic-type trainer from Mahogany Town, Johto. Her starter Pokémon is a Natu. Her final team is a Xatu and a Mr. Mime.

  • Action Girl: She is always up for a good fight.
  • Annoying Older Sibling: Acts like this after she and Logan make up. Though it is extremely light-hearted, especially in comparison to how she had treated him for the first half of the story.
  • Berserk Button: She really hates pop stars, which made her be abrasive towards Logan. Even more so then Seymour. Though we eventually find out that it wasn't pop stars she hates, it was Logan in particular as her brother.
  • Big Sister Bully: Acts this way for the first half of the season towards Logan due to her blaming him for their mother's death. Fortunately, they made up.
  • Blood Knight: Whether it is her doing the punching, watching a fight and even having herself being thrown, she loves a good fight.
  • Brutal Honesty: She wastes no time telling Logan how much his music sucks, never mind that he was a famous celebrity or the fact he literally just arrived. Although, it's unknown if Logan being her brother was the reason for her hating his music.
  • Dumb Muscle: She's tough and combative, but not the sharpest tool in the shed. However, she was the first one to figure out Samson has a Zorua.
  • Head Pet: Her then Natu and current Xatu likes to nest in her hair.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Not that she's entirely a force a good, but Logan did tell Yuri-Chan that Marta was a former member of Team Plasma.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: She had been pulled out of the game after saving everyone from a bomb and getting herself blown up as a result. While she didn't die, she was forced to be medically evacuated out of the game.
  • Hidden Depths: While her thinking is simple, to put it mildly, she knows that Samson's starter is actually a Zorua.
    • She's also fairly good at battle tactics despite coming off as foolish most of the time. When she was in an elimination battle against Vecepia, she wins in the quickest and easiest battle yet. And unlike Rise's win against Jackson, she doesn't even take advantage of her Natu's type advantage to do it.
  • Non-Gameplay Elimination: Was removed from the game after being blown up due to a bomb.
  • Official Couple: Eventually becomes this with Simun.
  • Pint-Sized Powerhouse: She's not very big, but she's quite strong and aggressive.
  • Psychic Powers: She is a Psychic-type trainer. As ironic as it sounds, she has an interesting ideology behind it. By focusing all of her battle tactics into the pure physical onslaught, Marta believes she always holds the element of surprise closely at her side.
  • Right for the Wrong Reasons: During Episode 5, there was a Challenge that involves taking care of Pokémon eggs. She assumed that just like the Slowpokes, they would be fake so she threw her egg into the ocean to see it would break. While she WAS right about the eggs being fake, she had little reason to think so and automatically lost the challenge and was automatically in the Bottom 2.
  • Sibling Rivalry: With Logan, with the two of them blaming each other for abandoning their sick mother and leaving her to die.
  • Ship Tease: With Simun.

     Ruth Denning

Ninth out. 10th place. Lost to Logan in Episode 11.

Ruth is a Normal-type trainer from Flocessy Ranch, Unova. Her starter Pokémon is a Lillipup. Her final team is a Stoutland.

  • Brawn Hilda: Seen as such by the other girls in her hometown. This resulted in her negative views on femininity.
  • Character Development: Over the course of the story, she slowly gets over her sexist views towards women.
  • Farm Girl: She works on a ranch.
  • Female Misogynist: Views other girls as lesser, and in general derides femininity.
  • Freudian Excuse: Her low opinion of women comes from being bullied by other girls for not being traditionally feminine.
  • The Lad-ette: She is a bulky woman with a dislike for girly things.
  • Non-Elemental: She is a Normal-type trainer. Mainly because she had grown up raising Herdier. Also, she believes that having nothing you're strong against makes you fight harder in battle.
  • Pink Is for Sissies: She doesn't like stuff she considers girly and tries to avoid bunking with feminine girls.
  • Throw the Dog a Bone: During the fight between the contestants and the Dark Riders, she had gotten asked out by one of the enemies. She was genuinely flattered by that.
  • Tomboy and Girly Girl: Develops this friendship with Yuri-Chan in her final episode competing.
  • Tomboy with a Girly Streak: She apparently keeps a boy band magazine hidden away.

     Seymour Vallis

Eighth out. 11th place. Lost to Samson in Episode 10.

Seymour is a Ground-type trainer from Canalave City, Sinnoh. His starter Pokémon is a Gible. His final team is a Garchomp.

  • Asshole Victim: Essentially one for Rise, the actual Unown thief. When he gets angered when Simun inadvertently calls him a nerd, Seymour almost chokes the jokester until he is caught by the others. When Simun is asked what happened, he decides to make up Seymour confessing to being the thief. Seymour tries to tell the others this never happened, but it's too late as he's forced into an elimination battle and loses against Samson and is arrested by Officer Nancy.
  • Benevolent Boss: He is surprisingly this with the Dark Riders. Despite getting annoyed by their antics, and rightfully so, he genuinely cares about their well-being.
  • Berserk Button: Being called a nerd. Gareth took advantage of this.
  • Combat Pragmatist: He is very aggressive during challenges and willing to do anything in order to win.
  • Dishing Out Dirt: He is a Ground-type trainer. He strongly believes that Ground is one of the stronger attacking types.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: Even he is disgusted by Francis' crude and vulgar language.
  • Fall Guy: He ended up being accused of the thief by Simun and immediately everyone believes the latter.
  • Four Eyes, Zero Soul: He's a skilled mathematician with spectacles who also happens to be the leader of a rebellious gang with no qualms about hurting others.
  • Freudian Excuse: He used to be a normal bookworm who got into a gang. However, the said gang was using him just so he could do their homework. Because of this, he hates being pushed around.
  • The Friend Nobody Likes: He is this for the cast. Not even Samson and April want anything to do with him due to his mistreatment of them.
  • Genius Bruiser: He looks like your textbook nerd. However, he is much stronger and tougher than he looks.
  • Hidden Depths: He is actually quite skilled in mathematics and prefers to hide it behind under his streetwise wit.
  • Jerkass: He spends most of his screen-time belittling others.
  • Kick the Dog: He had hired thugs to sabotage the other contestants by smashing their Pokémon eggs. Granted, said eggs were fake, but nobody knew that.
  • Kick the Morality Pet: April was the only one who was nice to him (though she initially attempted to get with him just to learn his weaknesses and take him down). However, when he learned that she was initially using him (something that she admitted outright, he had thrown the challenge just to face her in the duel and beat her. He even made a cruel comment about her Disappeared Dad status, although it's implied he regrets it.
  • Obviously Evil: After he catches heat for his stunt at the Radio Tower, he doesn't even pretend to play fair anymore.
  • Pet the Dog: He genuinely cares about his gang, the Dark Riders and even rode with Marta to a hospital out of gratitude for helping him rescue his gang.
  • Surrounded by Idiots: Despite the hype revolving around his gang, they... aren't competent as they originally seem.
  • Teens Are Monsters: He's the leader of an infamous gang, and he's quite sadistic in his own right.

     April Bremen

April is a Poison-type Trainer from Olivine City, Johto. Her Starter Pokémon is a Trubbish. Her final team is a Garbodor.

  • All Girls Want Bad Boys: She prefers bad guys. However, this usually ended up bad as evident as she ended up meeting up with a certain vicious gang.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: She revealed to her fellow girl teammates that she accidentally killed her dad a few years back in a bungee jump accident involving a hot air balloon, which caused her to do her stunts on the solo from that point.
  • Deadpan Snarker: While friendly to most of everyone in the cast, she can be extremely sharp-tongued to Francis and Seymour for example.
  • Disappeared Dad: He was tragically killed in a stunt accident that April sadly contributed to.
  • Kick The Son Of A Bitch: When Francis was using derogatory comments against Cassandra and Jackson (after he failed to get the former to accept his relationship proposal), April did what was on everyone's minds and knocked out Francis by coldly decking him.
  • Only Sane Woman: Despite her tendency to make life-threatening challenges, she still manages to be one of the more level-headed members of the cast.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: When she heard that Seymour is the leader of a certain gang, she became extremely freaked out.
  • Poisonous Person: She is a Poison-type trainer. As a daredevil, she believes that it is PERFECT for her.
  • Rollerblade Good: She is rarely seen without her rollerblades.
  • Thrill Seeker: She is a daredevil. In fact, her Establishing Character Moment had her skating through traffic and causing three non-lethal car crashes.
    • She later tries to have the Magnet Train run over her, and it very nearly works, until Ferrum saves her at the last second.

     Gareth Roach

Sixth out. 13th place. Lost to Ruth in Episode 8.

Gareth is a Bug-type Trainer from Castelia City, Unova. His starter Pokémon is a Sewaddle. His final team is a Leavanny and a Venonat.

  • Arch-Enemy: To Seymour.
  • The Baby of the Bunch: He is the youngest at 12 years old.
  • Badass Adorable: He may be a little kid, but he's a wickedly skilled trainer and quite the trickster to boot.
  • Big Creepy-Crawlies: He is a Bug-type trainer. Mainly because he has the ability to talk to bugs.
  • Big Guy, Little Guy: The little guy to Monty's big guy.
  • Creepy Child: Considering he talks to bugs, appears without notice, and stares silently at people...
  • Deadpan Snarker: While he doesn't speak much, a good chunk of his speaking time could be quite snarky.
  • Defrosting Ice King: He initially dislikes Vecepia for being super-rich and unwittingly flaunting it around. However, he gives her the benefit of the doubt when he saw her caring for an injured Venonat. He ended up being this way towards Vecepia again when she came back into the game after her father had brought her way back into the game. He ends up forgiving her again though.
  • Meaningful Name/Punny Name: Gareth Roach. You know, considering he's the bug-type trainer.
  • My Death Is Just the Beginning: After he's eliminated, he provides everyone else with the fact that Seymour doesn't like being called a nerd. Hilarity ensues.
  • Odd Friendship: Forms one with Monty.
  • Offscreen Teleportation: He has a tendency to suddenly appear without anyone noticing where he came from.
  • Pest Controller: Not just that he's a Bug-type trainer, but the fact he can specifically talk to bugs and understand them.
  • The Quiet One: He doesn't talk much. Ironically enough, he was completely silent until Monty speaks to him and gets him to speak.
  • The Sneaky Guy: The stealthiest of the trainers with a lot of tricks up his sleeve.
  • Speaks Fluent Animal: For some reason, he can communicate the Bug-Type Pokémon and ONLY Bug-types.
  • Street Urchin: He is homeless which makes most of the cast feels sorry for him and feel uncomfortable when Vecepia and Logan unwittingly wave their privilege around.
  • Trademark Favourite Food: Burgers.
  • Wise Beyond Their Years: Despite being the youngest contestant, he is also the wisest one.

     Cassandra Hanes

Fifth out. 14th place. Lost to Gareth in Episode 7.

Cassandra is an Electric-type Trainer from Saffron City, Kanto. Her starter Pokémon is a Voltorb. Her final team is an Electrode.

  • Death or Glory Attack: As a desperation move in her sudden death battle against Gareth, she has Voltorb use Self-Destruct in an attempt to take out Gareth's Sewaddle evolving to a Swadloon. Swadloon's defense is just enough to weather the attack, resulting in Cassandra essentially eliminating herself.
  • The Ditz: Well, she isn't as dumb as Carl, but she doesn't seem to be that smart. She had kept failing a quiz full of very easy Pokémon questions.
  • Genki Girl: She is enthusiastic and energetic in nearly everything she does.
  • The Pig-Pen: She is very messy, much to Jackson's discomfort. She slowly decides to stop it when Jackson calls her out over her messy ways and inadvertently got him into an elimination battle where he was sent home.
  • The Rock Star: What she does for a living.
  • Shock and Awe: She is an Electric-type trainer because electric blasts would make for great effects at rock concerts.
  • Take Me Instead: She begs to be placed in the elimination battle instead of Jackson after her messy habits caused him to fall to the bottom, but her pleas were ignored.

     Rise Senwil

Fourth out. 15th place. Lost to Simun in Episode 6.

She is the thief and main antagonist of the story.

Rise is a Fire-type trainer from Lavaridge Town, Hoenn. Her starter Pokémon is a Torchic. Her final team is a Combusken, though she uses a Blaziken in her antagonist fight.

  • The Atoner: She became a dark example of this trope when she tried to use the Unown to hypnotize herself into making a Heel–Face Turn. Yuri-Chan, Logan and Monty called her out on this.
  • Big Bad: She is the thief and the one behind the Unown.
  • Big Bad Friend: To Yuri-Chan.
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: Not only is she the thief, but she didn't really have that much confidence with Yuri-Chan just like she said back in the game.
  • The Bore: In the Radio Tower challenge, she ended up boring her listeners with her sermons about Ho-Oh. This led to her falling into the bottom 2, and ultimately being eliminated.
  • Hypocrite: Despite her deeply ridiculous views, she has no problem using the Ecruteak Tower, a sacred building as a battleground.
  • I Just Want to Have Friends: A dark example of this. After being picked out of her cult, she felt like the Unown were the only ones who could be her friends. However, said friends hypnotized a lot of innocent people.
  • Large Ham: Let's just say that she gets very animated during her rituals.
  • Nice Girl: She was willing to help Carl in the first challenge even if it meant it harmed her chances of staying. She has also taken a somewhat big sister approach to Yuri-Chan.
    • Tragically averted as she turned out to be the Unown thief who had hurt, hypnotized and nearly killed a lot of people and she didn't think that Yuri-Chan would ever accomplish her dream of being a Kimono Girl.
  • Outside-Context Villain: The bulk of her villainy took place after her elimination and had nothing to do with the competition at all.
  • Pet the Dog: Despite being an unapologetic Sinister Minister, she did do some generous things that weren't for the sake of fooling others. A prime example is going out of her way to help Carl, despite knowing it would hurt her own plans for staying.
  • Playing with Fire: She is a Fire-type trainer. As expected from a clan that worships a Fire-type legendary.
  • Preacher Woman: She is the upcoming head of the Solfire Clan, a group that religiously worships Ho-Oh.
    • Sinister Minister: Turns out that she was not only the Big Bad but wants to control Ho-Oh, the Pokémon she worships for herself.
  • Psychic Powers: Not her herself, but she was the one who was controlling the Unown which are Psychic-type Pokémon.
  • Token Religious Teammate: Well, she is the only one who has a deep religious belief.
  • Villainous Breakdown: This happens to her when she had failed to control Ho-Oh (and Yuri-Chan) because the Unown couldn't properly spell their names out. In other words, she lost because there is no dash Unown.
  • Walking Spoiler: Yeah, being the surprise villain will do that to you.
  • Yamato Nadeshiko: Has this trope pretty clear with her Asian elegant dress and her soft-spoken way of speaking.

     Jackson Bo'lal

Third out. 16th place. Lost to Rise in Episode 4.

Jackson is an Ice-type trainer from Heahea City, Alola. His starter Pokémon is an Alolan Sandshrew. His final team is an Alolan Sandslash.

  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Despite being a talented trainer, he loses his elimination battle badly. Rise's Combusken lights the highly flammable field on fire immediately, forcing Jackson to withdraw his Snowshrew before it can suffer serious injury.
  • Decoy Protagonist: After Francis' elimination, it seemed like he would get his own time to shine... until he screwed up the third challenge and lost the elimination battle against Rise.
  • Nice Guy: He is chill and friendly to everyone, even Francis who was openly antagonizing him, saying that he wants to see his region burned down. However...
    • Beware the Nice Ones: ...He is aware that Francis wants him to feel miserable just for being from the Alola region so he is overly-friendly towards him on purpose to piss him off.
      • He has actually finally snapped at Cassandra for her messy and unhygienic actions.
  • Graceful Loser: He is completely chill with ending up in the elimination battle and losing.
  • An Ice Person: He is an Ice-type trainer. Ignoring the obvious pun on how chill he is, he just finds the type refreshing.
  • Neat Freak: Despite being a laid-back Surfer Dude, he is this and he is disgusted that by the table manners of Cassandra.
  • Odd Friendship: With Francis.
  • Politeness Judo: What he does to combat Francis' cruel verbal attacks. Thus far, Jackson had shut him down every time.
  • Surfer Dude: He is a prime example of this trope with his extremely laid-back personality.

     Francis Jeckleson

Second out. 17th place. Lost to Yuri-Chan in Episode 3.

Francis is a Dragon-type Trainer from Saffron City, Kanto. His starter Pokémon is a Dratini. His final team is a Dragonite.

  • Abhorrent Admirer: Towards Cassandra. He fawns over her for being a woman from Kanto, having a Kanto Pokémon, and believes she looks like a Kanto goddess, while she is creeped out by his advances. Turns out this was all for nothing, as Cassandra is technically a Johto native.
  • Berserk Button: As expected from a Genwunner, he hates everything after the first generation, especially the Fairy-type and the Alola region.
  • The Bully: Acts like this towards Yuri-Chan just because she is a Fairy-Type trainer. Not so much to Jackson, as the latter can handle himself.
  • Fat Bastard: He is the only fat person in the cast and he is by far the most unpleasant.
  • The Friend Nobody Likes: There is not a single person in the story that liked Francis. Although, he did gain a friend in Jackson after opening up about his dad.
  • Freudian Excuse: His father is never around and going off visiting other regions OTHER than Kanto and when his parents divorced, his father didn't even attempt to get custody of him.
  • Hate Sink: So far, he only exists to be hated, and has exhibited very few positive characteristics.
  • Humiliation Conga: Oh boy. First, he found out that his crush Cassandra technically isn't from Kanto, but actually Johto since she moved. Next, he lost a Pokémon match against Jackson, one of his most hated people. Next, after losing the battle against Jackson, he was suddenly attacked by a Noctowl, three Mareep, five Rattata, two Bellsprout, a Spearow, and six Hoppip. Next, April had decked him in the mud after his long rant after trying to get Cassandra again failed. Finally, Yuri-Chan, his other most hated person sent him home after beating him in an elimination battle.
  • Irony: Despite being such a proud Genwunner, he didn't know that Slowpoke is a part of the original 151 until April pointed it out to him.
  • Jerkass: Unless you are from Kanto or use Pokémon native to the region, he will not be nice to you. He is especially cruel to Yuri-Chan and Jackson.
  • Jobber: His battle record is atrocious. Not only does he lose to Jackson and Yuri-Chan before being eliminated, but he goes down the fastest in the Elite Four battles.
  • Kick the Dog: Torments Yuri-Chan at any chance he gets.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: He loses Pokemon battles to Jackson and Yuri-Chan, the two people who he targeted the most.
  • Odd Friendship: With Jackson.
  • Parental Neglect: His father is constantly going on trips, leaving him and his mother at home.
  • Pet the Dog: He is surprisingly polite and friendly to anyone he believes is from Kanto. Unfortunately, the only person who was from Kanto and has a Kanto-native Pokémon is Cassandra who wants nothing to do with him. In the end, after Cassandra revealed where she really originates from, any chance of him being polite to anyone perished. That is until he opened up to Jackson...
  • Politically Incorrect Villain: He had called Jackson a retard and a faggot, and Cassandra a slut after being rejected. This had immediately got him called him out by Marta, Ruth and even Seymour.
  • Small Name, Big Ego: Despite thinking himself as the "King of Battlers", his battling record had been quite low. He had lost a battle to Jackson and later an elimination battle to Yuri-Chan. Granted, both people were trainers of types he was weak too. But considering that the Dragon-type has no weaknesses...
  • Stay in the Kitchen: He makes a comment about having one of the female contestants to make him a sandwich. While immediately met with uncomfortable reactions, Keira takes this literally and actually gives him a sandwich.
  • Villainous Breakdown: Hoo boy... he did not take his loss to Yuri-Chan well at all.
  • When You Coming Home, Dad?: Deconstructed. His father's constant trips to other regions resulted in Francis developing a hatred of said regions.

     Carl Parkinson

Carl is a Rock-type Trainer from Laverre City, Kalos. His starter Pokémon is a Binacle. His final team is a Barbaracle.

  • Butt-Monkey: He wouldn't be a Karl Pilkington expy if he wasn't. It even crosses over to the Aftermath episodes.
  • Cloudcuckoolander: He has a tendency to trail off and wonder about strange things.
  • Dishing Out Dirt: He is a Rock-type trainer because he believes that the Rock type is the strongest type there is. Nothing more, nothing less.
  • The Ditz: He is... not the brightest bulb in the box. His Establishing Character Moment had him thinking that helicopters are powered up by Flying-type Pokémon, and when told the correct answer, he just waves it off. Despite later stating that he knows that buses using engines.
  • Epic Fail: Pretty much everything he did in the competition. He lost the first challenge when he fell for an obvious deception by Seymour, then lost the first duel when his Binacle got confused and beat itself into unconsciousness.
  • Expy: Of Karl Pilkington.
  • History Repeats: In both his elimination battle and his Elite Four battle, he lost because his Pokemon got confused and pummeled itself into submission.
  • Verbal Tic: It's rare that he doesn't end a sentence off with "innit".

    • When he realizes that something has been taken from his research, he goes berserk
  • Combat Pragmatist: He's absolutely cunning and vicious in battle.
  • Elimination Houdini: In-Universe example. His track record in the competition is horrible, mostly because he focuses on his studies and searches rather than the actual challenges.
  • Famed In-Story: A renowned archaeological professor.
  • Grumpy Old Man: He doesn't exactly bring a positive outlook on things.
  • Jerkass: Amar doesn't care much for taking other people's feelings into account.
  • Kick the Dog: His treatment of Ollie after Kali's elimination, insulting the boy at his lowest point and leaving him alone in the rain.
  • Noodle Incident: He was apparently part of a fraternity that nearly burned their frat house down with Slugmas... somehow.
  • Pet the Dog: His respectful sendoff to Sabiya after defeating her in a duel.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: After a particularly bad day, he deals out a set of these to Celeste, Ludwig, and Ren.
  • Wounded Gazelle Gambit: He plays this in his duel against Celeste. He has his Trapinch activate Bide before taking severe damage from Celeste's Ralts, then has it strike while everyone is worried about its health.

  • Always Second Best: She frequently finds herself performing well, but not good enough to win. This frustrates her to no end.
  • Arch-Enemy: She and Celeste despise each other and argue frequently.
    • Later on she picks up a new nemesis in Nightshade.
  • Bad Boss: She treats her Riolu pretty terribly, which hinders it from evolving. When it evolves due to finding friendship with Nightshade, Minnie is livid.
  • Berserk Button: She has two: Being ignored and not winning.
  • Butt-Monkey: Frequently disrespected by the rest of the cast. She pretty much brings most of it on herself, though.
  • Drama Queen: A conceited conflict-starter.
  • The Friend Nobody Likes: Nobody in the cast really likes her that much, mostly because she was acting like a narcissistic jerk from the moment she arrived.
  • It's All About Me: Minnie always has to make everything about herself and assert her self-proclaimed superiority.
  • Jerkass: Minnie is incredibly unpleasant to everyone she meets.

  • Companion Cube: Her box.
  • Deadpan Snarker: More like deadpan everything.
  • Easily Forgiven: After admitting to Ludwig that she sabotage he, Ludwig forgives right away.
  • Emotionless Girl: She doesn't express much emotion, responding to virtually everything in the same flat tone.
  • Floral Theme Naming: Her first name, nickname, AND last name are also names of plant genus.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: When she impulsively kisses Ludwig, she immediately regrets it.
  • Not So Stoic: Her uncaring mask starts to break thanks to Kitty's influence. We see more of that when she hangs out with Ludwig.
  • Odd Friendship: With Kitty, Ludwig, and Minnie's Riolu/Lucario
  • Only Knownby Their Nickname: Is called by her nickname by everyone in the game. Subverted by Steven Stone in episode 7 who calls her by her first name.
  • Poisonous Person: Moreso than the typical Poison-type trainer, since she actually drinks poison!
  • Powerof Friendship: uses this to evolve Minnie's Riolu
  • Troll: Her main method of exercising her rivalry with Minnie is through pranks.

Ollie is a Ghost-type trainer from Tapu Village, Alola. His starter Pokémon is a Mimikyu. His current team is a Mimikyu and a Shedinja.

  • Badass Adorable: He has a surprisingly solid track record in the competition.
  • Beware the Silly Ones: The rest of the cast doesn't take Ollie seriously. However, not only does he put in a lot of solid performances, but he manages to pull the wool over Amar and Theo's eyes on separate occasions!
  • Break the Cutie: Kali's elimination shatters the poor kid.
    • Happens again when the rest of the remaining players tell him that he's not taking the game seriously, including Kali.
  • Cheerful Child: Whether or not he's being creepy, he's almost always this.
  • Cloudcuckoolander: One has to wonder where some of his thoughts originate from.
  • Creepy Child: YES HE IS.
    Ollie: My mom doesn't think this is a “fun fact”, but we all die at some point. Some sooner than others.
  • Establishing Character Moment:
    Ollie: Does your family have a history of mesothelioma?!
  • The Gadfly: He's only in the competition because Nanu thought that it would be funny to force the cast to deal with him.
  • Intergenerational Friendship: With Kali.
  • Morality Pet: The only person that Kali is consistently nice to.
  • Odd Friendship: With Kali.
  • Only Friend: For Kali.
  • Troubling Unchildlike Behavior: Pretty much everything he does.
    Roxanne: Don’t be fooled. His Mimikyu used Wood Hammer in a kindergarten classroom.
    Ollie: We all die in the end.
    Roxanne: Nobody was hurt.

Douglas is a Normal-type trainer from Castelia City, Unova. His starter Pokémon is a Miltank. His current team is a Miltank and a Loudred.

10th out. Lost to Ollie in Episode 12.

  • Alliterative Name: Douglas Darragh.
  • Black Comedy: He develops something of a taste for this.
  • Gone Horribly Wrong: His attempt to get eliminated and host the Aftermath show. First he throws the challenge to get himself sent to the Sudden Death Duel, then he discovers that Angie is the permanent host, so he wouldn't get to host if he lost. Then, after winning, he discovers that the loser gets a side segment on the Aftermath show anyway. He doesn't take it well.
  • High Hopes, Zero Talent: Douglas really wants to be a comedian, but he seems to be incapable of effectively telling a joke.
    • Subverted in episode 8 when he tells a joke that makes people laugh
  • Lame Pun Reaction: Doesn't get a laugh well he tells his jokes. At least till episode 8
  • Mistaken for Gay: Theo calls him a "twink" when he thinks he's the Fairy-type trainer.
  • No-Holds-Barred Beatdown: Miltank dishes one out to Marisa's Oddish after the tides turn in their duel, stomping it until the fight was called off.
  • Pungeon Master: Many of his jokes rely on puns.
  • Took a Level in Badass: Not only does he become a formidable trainer, but he gets funnier too!
     Carol Barnet

Carol is a Rock-type trainer from Mauville City, Hoenn. Her starter Pokémon is an Aron. Her current team is an Aggron & Rhyhorn

Ninth out. Lost to Nightshade in Episode 11.

  • Brutal Honesty: She doesn't hide her disdain at Douglas' attempt to get himself eliminated.
  • Extreme Omnivore: Her Aron tries to eat everything. Everything.
  • Hidden Depths: Tough, no-nonsense Carol is nothing short of gleeful at getting to explore the Trick House.
  • Irony: One of the most composed and mature members of the cast has a Pokemon with no self-control.
  • Not So Stoic: Carol is composed most of the time, but she's very hard on herself for her failures.
  • Official Couple: With Douglas.
  • Ship Tease: With Douglas.
  • Working-Class Hero: She works in a steel mill, and her introduction took place right after she got off of work for the day.
  • Younger Than They Look: Carol's the tallest and most muscular member of the Hoenn cast, but she's only 17.
     Sabiya Amin

Sabiya is an Electric-type trainer from Opelucid City, Unova. Her starter Pokémon is a Blitzle. Her current team is a Zebstrika, Plusle and a Minun.

Eighth out. Lost to Amar in Episode 10.

  • Cool Aunt: She wants to be one.
  • Emo Teen: A good description of her Blitzle's personality. It grows out of it after evolving.
  • Team Mom: She even acts like a stern parent to her Blitzle.
     Olaf Gunderson

Olaf is an Ice-type trainer from Snowpoint City, Sinnoh. His starter Pokémon is a Snover. His final team is a Snover and a Amaura

Seventh out. Lost to Sky in Episode 9.

  • Beware the Nice Ones: Olaf is a lovable guy, but he can be very stern when he needs to be.
  • Big Fun: A large man with a cheerful personality.
  • Fat and Skinny: The fat to Sky's skinny.
  • It's Personal: When Olaf finds out that Wesker's actions caused Marisa's elimination, he is furious.
  • Let's Get Dangerous!: He shows surprising fierceness when heading into battle against Wesker.
  • Manly Tears: Cries during the battle with Olaf, knowing that one of them will be eliminated from the game.
  • Nice Guy: He's just a delightful person to be around.
  • Rage Breaking Point: After dealing with Celeste and Minnie's arguments all day, he loses his patience and snaps at both of them for acting so immature.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: Is given on by Steven Stone on why he isn't worth to win the game.
  • Shrinking Violet: His Snover is very timid.
  • Undying Loyalty: He would never betray or abandon his friends.
  • Weight Woe: He's very sensitive about his weight.
     Ren Lubell

Ren is a Dark-type trainer from Nimbasa City, Unova. Their starter Pokémon is a Purrloin. Their final team is a Liepard and a Sableye.

Sixth out. Lost to Carol in Episode 7.

  • Character Development: They buries the hatchet with Ludwig after finding common ground with him.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: Ren isn't particularly friendly, but they aren't a bad person.
  • Fatal Flaw: Their jealousy.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: They considers Ludwig an academic rival, and dislikes him for that reason.
  • Insufferable Genius: They're very confident in their intelligence, and very wary of anyone who they think may threaten their status.
  • Paper Tiger: Ren's got a sharp tongue, but they crumble at the sight of an actual confrontation.
  • Popularity Power: In-Universe. They engineered a hashtag and spread it through social media in order to get themself on the show.
  • Stoic Spectacles: A reserved, bespectacled bookworm.
  • Stunned Silence: When Amar accuses them of being a talentless trainer who is only on the show because of a hashtag.

Fifth out. Lost to Kali in Episode 5.

  • Cuddle Bug: She has a habit of wanting to hug everyone in sight.
  • Everyone Has Standards: She refuses an alliance offer from Minnie because she doesn't want to associate herself with a liar.
  • Fun Personified: Kitty radiates big smiles and good times.
  • Genki Girl: Kitty is positively overflowing with energy and happiness.
  • Graceful Loser: She's all smiles when she gets eliminated, just as she always is.
  • History Repeats: She went head to head with Kali twice, and lost and got eliminated both times.
  • Odd Friendship: With Nightshade.
  • Sacrificial Lion: A very smart and strong competitor who was taken out surprisingly early.
  • Smarter Than You Look: She has memorized a ton of Pokedex entries. The girl's got a ton of Pokemon knowledge.

Celeste is a Psychic-type trainer from Camphrier Town, Kalos. Her starter Pokémon is a Ralts. Her final team is a Ralts.

Fourth out. Lost to Amar in Episode 4.

     Wesker Acacia

Wesker is a Water-type trainer from Hearthome City, Sinnoh. His starter Pokémon is a Shellos. His final team is a Shellos.

Third out. Lost to Olaf in Episode 3.

  • Butt-Monkey: Nobody takes him seriously, and a lot of people make jokes at his expense.
  • Everyone Knew Already: Upon his elimination, he reveals that he is a cop. Nobody is surprised, as they all figured that out on their own well before that point.
  • The Friend Nobody Likes: With him always going through everybody's belongings and repeated claims that he isn't a cop despite all evidence to the contrary, he isn't particularly liked by anyone.
    • Subverted on the first aftermath show when he bonds with Celeste.
  • The Mole: he was hired by Popova to investigate the cast to make sure that there would be no troublemakers like the ones the past seasons had to deal with.
  • Nervous Wreck: He doesn't do a great job of keeping himself together.
  • The Not Secret: It doesn't even take two episodes before everyone realizes that he's a cop.
  • Paper-Thin Disguise: He puts a piece of tape over the police badge on his hat in an attempt to keep people from suspecting that he is a cop. Predictably, it doesn't work.
  • Running Gag: Him suspecting people of doing illegal things. Also, see Suspiciously Specific Denial.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: He's gone by the end of Episode 3, but his actions created massive waves that would be felt for multiple episodes afterwards.
  • Suspiciously Specific Denial: Wes definitely isn't a cop, guys! Seriously!
  • Wham Line. Not the fact that he was a cop, but, the revelation that he was a mole planted by Popova.
     Marisa Vyland

Marisa is a Grass-type trainer from Vermillion City, Kanto. Her starter Pokémon is an Oddish. Her final team is an Oddish.

Second out. Lost to Douglas in Episode 2.

  • Apologizes a Lot: Probably too much...
  • Camera Fiend: She loves to take pictures, and brought camera equipment to the competition to do just that.
  • The Cutie: Marisa's pretty much completely adorable.
    • Break the Cutie: ... and it made her surprise elimination all the more heartbreaking.
  • Nice Girl: She's sweet and polite to everyone. Which made the reveal that she had associated with multiple villain teams very shocking.
  • The Storyteller: In the aftermath shows, she tells the stories of her time in various villain teams across the Pokemon world.
     Lizzie Maville

Dragon-Type

Lizzie is a Dragon-type trainer from Violet City, Johto. Her starter Pokémon is a Gible. Her final team is a Gible.

First out. Lost to Ludwig in Episode 1.

  • Big Bad Wannabe: She wants to be a powerful force of evil. Hence why she joined up with Theo at the first opportunity.
  • Fangirl: Of evil in general and Team Rocket in particular.
  • Number Two: To Theo Malik.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: She decided that she wanted to quit to follow Theo in his travels, so Popova instituted a sudden-death battle on the spot between her and Ludwig. Lizzie loses, but she isn't bothered and heads off to catch up with Theo.
  • Teens Are Monsters: Or evil-obsessed brats, in any case.
  • Tiny Tyrannical Girl: Very much so. Especially as an admin of Team Stain.
     Dr. Theo Malik

Steel-Type

Theo is a Steel-type trainer from Hau'Oli City, Alola. His starter Pokémon is a Bronzor. His final team is a Bronzong and a Magneton.

Theo was never actually a contestant, and left immediately after arriving.

  • Big Bad: Of Hoenn Havoc.
  • The Dreaded: Theo is bad, bad news. Even the most unflappable contestants are unnerved by him.
  • Establishing Character Moment: He attempts to land a helicopter on top of a yoga class, burns a pair of shirts, reveals that he's banned from Hoenn, and generally acts like a jerk to everyone. And then he leaves because he was never planning on competing anyway.
  • * Even Evil Has Standards: Doesn't like homophobia.
  • Jerkass: Immediately establishes himself as this.
  • Know When to Fold 'Em: When surrounded by Carol, Douglas, Mishal, Olaf, Ollie and Sky. He knows he's outnumbered and decides to cut his losses and get out.
  • Loophole Abuse: It never specified that as the as the selected contestant, he need to present himself as the trainer. Then he was able to get Ludwig to replace him as Ludwig was not only registered to complete but was never properly eliminated based on the rules.
  • Mad Scientist: Very, very mad indeed.
  • Noodle Incident: He somehow got banned from Hoenn. But was able to get around it thanks to Region Trotters and Ludwig.
  • Obviously Evil: It's clear right away that the guy is bad news.
  • Outside-Context Villain: He's clearly bad news, but he's operating outside of the competition, so the others can't keep tabs on him.
  • Persona Non Grata: He's banned from Hoenn, but used Region Trotters as a loophole to get into the region.
