    Endeavor

Enji Todoroki — Endeavor

Quirk: Hellflame

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/endeavor_2nd_hero_costume_anime_9.png

Shoto Todoroki's father, he is the 2nd-highest-ranked hero in Japan. As a Pro Hero, he's one of the best, beating out even All Might in the number of cases he's resolved. As a father, though? He leaves a lot to be desired.

  • Abusive Parents: Saying he sucks at parenting is an understatement.
  • All for Nothing: Even before he learns that All Might would be retiring within the year, Enji realizes (thanks to Izuku) that Shoto becoming number one wouldn't be the victory he wanted as he'd be reduced to simply "Shoto Todoroki's father".
  • Elemental Rock-Paper-Scissors: He fights against Geten during the MLA Uprising.
  • Everyone Has Standards: Before learning why his cousin seemingly abandoned his family, Enji desperately hoped it wasn't because his son was Quirkless, insisting that such a thing was "a step too far".
  • Freudian Excuse: He really did not know his mother's abrasive behavior was abusive instead of just very harsh. It took a conversation with his cousin Hisashi for him to realize how messed up his childhood was.
  • Heel Realization: Izuku's "The Reason You Suck" Speech to him gets the man thinking about just how bad he has messed up in his life.
  • Hero with Bad Publicity: After he publicly admits to being a domestic abuser, his reputation falls apart. That said, it is Downplayed overall as it is not as bad as it could have been had his personal dirty laundry come out in any way that was not him admitting fault.
  • Hidden Depths:
    • Izuku, Ochako, and Shouto realize Endeavor could have married several women apart from Rei if his objective was just to have a child with a strong Quirk due to polygamy being legal, but the Pro never did.
    • He also looks fondly back to his time with Hisashi, short as it was.
  • Like Father, Like Son:
    • It turns out, his mother was highly abusive as well, once badly beating his cousin Hisashi then denying him food for three days because he failed a test. Enji legitimately didn't realize such a thing was unusual.
    • In a more humorous version, he believed that Izuku might be All Might's biological son, much like Shoto does.
  • Pet the Dog: He took the time to give his cousin Hisashi tips on how to control his Quirk. Also, even though his cousin only lived with them for a short time, Enji still remembers him well enough to recognize his features in Hisashi's son, Izuku, and decides to ask him how to deal with his current problems and how to improve himself.
  • Spanner in the Works: An accidental case. Endeavor's admission of his abuse and his own desire to atone for them ended up making it very difficult for the HPSC to leverage his position as the new Number One Hero to their benefit, since he had basically torpedoed his own reputation. Similarly, it also upends Touya's revenge plan to see his father broken and beaten, as him admitting his crimes effectively robs Touya of all satisfaction.

    Sir Nighteye

Mirai Sasaki — Sir Nighteye

Quirk: Foresight

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sir_nighteye_ones_justice_2_render.png

A Pro Hero who was once All Might's sidekick, though the two have since parted ways. Despite being quite strict and serious, he greatly values laughter and humor.

  • Actually Pretty Funny: He snorts when Izuku states that his collection of All Might merchandise wants to be Nighteye's when it grows up.
  • Confirmation Bias: In-Universe. He looks at everything that Izuku says and does during the Sports Festival and then twists it to fit his idea that Mirio would be the better choice for One For All.
  • Dies Differently in Adaptation: Instead of being impaled by a spike courtesy of Overhaul, here he gets his skull crushed by Slidin' Go.
  • Didn't See That Coming: He was left dumbfounded when he saw All Might's restored form — and even more when using his Quirk on Endeavor caused him to see multiple futures.
  • Entertainingly Wrong:
    • He doesn't know that, were Mirio to get One for All, not only would it throw off his control over Permeation (which took months of hard work to perfect), it would kill him due to One for All's Rapid Aging issue (according to Yoichi, it would do so in two years).
    • One of the things he takes issue with is Izuku calling All Might "Toshinori-sensei". What he doesn't know is that Izuku also calls him "Dad".
  • Graceful Loser: When he realizes he was mistaken about Izuku, he acknowledges it and tries to make amends for it.
  • Innocently Insensitive: It takes All Might's intervention to realize that the initial reason why he didn't want Izuku as All Might's successor (Quirkless, unexperienced and untrained) would have also disqualified All Might himself.
  • Know-Nothing Know-It-All: He professes how inferior Izuku is as the next holder of One for All and how no one would ever look up to him. This is because he completely ignores social media and doesn't realize Izuku has been praised constantly ever since the Sports Festival.
  • Must Make Amends: Once he realizes Izuku was right about why Mirio shouldn't receive One for All along with proof that Izuku is indeed a worthy successor to All Might, Sir Nighteye gifts Izuku his prized first edition All Might action figure, described as the holy grail of All Might merchandise.
  • Nothing Is Scarier: We are told nothing about whatever it was he foresaw, upon using his Quirk on Curious. All we know is that it was so bad that it drove him into an utter panic.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Whatever he saw in the Bad Future upon using his Quirk on Curious left the normally stoic hero terrified beyond reason.
  • Pose of Supplication: Gave Izuku a textbook Dogeza after realizing just how badly he misunderstood the boy.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: One of the first things he says to Izuku is tearing him a new one over his "showboating and egotism" in the Sports Festival. He's very upset to realize the only people who share his opinion are blatant trolls.
  • Too Clever by Half: He's intelligent, a good Pro Hero that synergized well with All Might when they worked together and managed to help Mirio learn how to use Permeation to the point he could be as good as a veteran Pro in just a year. Unfortunately, he let that get to his head: their initial break was caused by him using Foresight on All Might without permission after the fight with All for One, and then he disregarded All Might's choice of successor as inferior to his own candidate even though he didn't even know Izuku, that it was up to All Might to pick and that it would leave Izuku Quirkless all over again.

    Gran Torino

Sorahiko Torino — Gran Torino

Quirk: Jet

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/gran_7.png

An elderly, retired hero who offers Iida an internship. He was All Might's homeroom teacher and a good friend of Nana Shimura, making him one of the few who knows the full truth about One For All.

  • Actually Pretty Funny: He gives a full-on belly laugh when Iida suggests that "repeated blows to the head" (read: Gran repeatedly kicking him in the face) might have impaired his thinking process.
  • Cool Old Guy: He's a retired hero, but he can still run rings around younger heroes and fight All for One. He also shows a softer side by telling Eri he can be her great-grandfather (or great-Gran Torino) if she wants.
  • The Dreaded: All Might fears him to the point that just saying his name causes the man to shake in fear. Iida later mentions that his relatives, who Sorahiko also helped train in the past, had a similar reaction when he told them about his internship offer. Izuku, after one day of training with him, asks Iida how in the blazes he survived Torino for an entire week.
  • Good Is Not Soft: A hardass with few equals, most of his training involves him kicking his students in the face, as poor Iida finds out.
  • Manly Tears: The crusty Sorahiko let some tears fall thanks to Izuku giving him some closure with his dear friend Nana.
  • Obfuscating Stupidity: Like in canon, when Iida first shows up to his internship, Torino pretends to be a senile old man... until he suddenly kicks Iida in the face, loses his befuddled expression, and tells him to "show him what he's got".
  • Old Master: Gran Torino is a man old enough to know Iida's grandfather Tentarou, but is still a highly skilled and seasoned semi-retired Pro Hero.

    Gang Orca

Kugo Sagamata — Gang Orca

Quirk: Orcinus

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/gang_orca_oj2_artwork.png

The Number Ten Hero, and Tsuyu's mentor.

  • Achilles' Heel: His melon, the organ in the middle of his forehead, is this. That is the spot Izuku attacks during their sparring session in chapter 67.
  • Adaptational Early Appearance: He is introduced during the Internship Arc instead of during the Hideout Raid arc.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Arrives in Mosai Ward just in time to save Shoji and a group of civillians from a mob of racist heroes during the MLA Uprising.
  • Cuteness Proximity: Like everybody else, he is not immune to Eri's cuteness, especially when she is wearing a Gang Orca onesie.
  • Friend to All Children: This is one of the things Tsu loves the most about her mentor.
  • Mentor Archetype: To Tsuyu, since the first Internship week. Also becomes one to Kyoka and Shoji during Work Studies.
  • Misplaced Retribution: He terrorizes a great white shark during the villain hunt alongside Selkie upon finding out that he lost the bet over who Izuku was dating.
  • Side Bet: He was betting that Izuku was dating Tsu before she revealed they were polyamorous. Needless to say, he is not happy when Shishido (who had bet on a polyamory) wins the pot.
  • Revenge: Played for Laughs. He decides to take his revenge for losing the bet during his fight against Tsu during the Provisional License Exam. He loses.
  • Vitriolic Best Buds: With Shishido. The two of them are always at each other's and bickering like an old married couple.

    Ryukyu

Ryuko Tatusma — Ryukyu

Quirk: Dragon

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ryukyu_anime.png
Dragoon Hero
Click here to see her dragon form

The Number Nine Hero, as well Ochako and Nejire's mentor.

    Mt. Lady

Yu Takeyama — Mt. Lady

Quirk: Gigantification

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/yu_takeyama_anime_action.png

A newcomer Pro Hero and Yui's mentor.

  • Bear Hug: Gives one to Yui when her "Quirk awakening" (i.e. her Quirk evolving thanks to Bonding) lets her link the size of a pair of boots to Mt. Lady's, allowing the heroine to avoid going barefoot at all.
  • Mentor Archetype: To Yui, starting with the first Internship week.
  • Mundane Utility: She asks Yui to use her Quirk to make her boots bigger alongside her, so she won't have to walk around barefoot in her giant form.
  • Must Make Amends: She apologizes to Izuku in chapter 67 for her actions, or better said, the lack thereof, during the Sludge Villain Incident nearly two years prior.
  • Shipper on Deck: To Yui and Izuku. And even though she is glad they are polyamorous, she is upset about losing the Side Bet to Shishido.

    Star and Stripe

Cathleen "Cathy" Bate — Star and Stripe

Quirk: New Order

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/star_and_stripe.png

The United States #1 Hero. Cathleen was one of the first people All Might saved during his heroic career and became inspired by this to become a heroine, even styling herself after All Might.

Her Quirk, New Order, allows her to impose a rule on herself or onto anything or anyone she touches, as long as she can properly name them. While the number of rules she can keep at the same time is limited, the effect can be anything she imagines.

  • Achilles' Heel: Despite New Order being one of the most powerful Quirks in the world, it still has severe limitations, such as needing to know the name of its target, which can be countered if the person identifies themselves by a different name, and the limit of two orders, which only provides invincibility to a limit. Tomura becomes able to counter both after gaining All for One's Quirk, which in turn forces Star to stay on the sidelines until they have proper information against him.
  • Adaptational Early Appearance: As an adult, she didn't make her debut until after the Paranormal Liberation Arc. In this story, she shows up during the I-Expo.
  • Bear Hug: She gives a great big hug, complete with lifting and spinning around, to Izuku when she realizes he's All Might's disciple.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Arrives at Japan just in time to help Izuku and other Pros during the MLA Uprising.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: She effortlessly defeats Wolfram off-screen before the I-Expo.
  • I'm Taking Her Home with Me!: Defied with conscious effort. Cathleen had to fight her instincts to adopt Eri and take her home with her, citing how adorable she is.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Narrowly subverted. When Izuku mentions he doesn't fully understand how his Quirk works, Cathleen uses her Quirk so he'll "Fully understand everything about his Quirk". Doing so instantly knocks Izuku out from information overload, causing her to quickly rescind the Order. She fears this trope enough that she quickly decides to not use her Quirk like that on Izuku again lest something permanent happens.
  • Polyamory: She's in a relationship with her flight mates.
  • Put on a Bus: Was unable to help in the battle against All For One due to dealing with her own supervillain mess over in America. Word of God is that Mugen called in a few favors to ensure Cathleen was not available to help.
  • Reality Warper: How her Quirk, New Order, works: she says up to two orders and reality bends over to execute it, and rescinding it turns reality back to normal. It has a hard limit of two orders with one order being used to keep her on par with All Might. It also can be used on people other than herself but it requires Cathy to know the target's full name.
  • Spared by the Adaptation: When someone in the comments mentioned Cathleen's canon fate, this was the author's response:
Canon darted out in front of my car at night and I ran it over. I got out to check and once I saw what it was, I backed up over it and ran it over again.

    Miruko

Rumi Usagiyama — Miruko

Quirk: Rabbit

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/rumi_usagiyama_anime_action.png

The Number 5 ranked Pro Hero in Japan and Izuku's mentor during the work studies program.

  • Brick Joke: She promised to wear the fancy dress from Eri's party to fight villains next time she went to streets. Sure thing, in Chapter 76, Nagant spots her fighting Moonfish while wearing said dress.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: Between dropping in and out of school combined with Quirk discrimination, Rumi hasn't had it easy.
  • Don't Think, Feel: This is Miruko's primary lesson when training Izuku, as she recognizes that Izuku can fight fairly well, but he tends to overthink things and end up distracted in the middle of his fights. She first tries to teach him this by needling him with insults, which works, but ends up with her embedded in a wall when Izuku reaches his breaking point. Izuku eventually finds a way to enter this state on command: his muttering.
  • Kick Chick: With a rabbit-based Quirk, natch.
  • No Badass to His Valet: Just one mention of her mother wanting to talk to her turns her from a rambunctious asskicker into a dutiful daughter.
  • Not So Above It All:
    • In chapter 53, she realizes she's genuinely invested in Izuku, even thinking of him as her little brother. She also plays with Eri after meeting her.
    • Not only Rumi joins Eri's tea party, she also wears frilly dress during it. She also admits she might actually wear the dress in a fight just to mess up villains during it.
  • Precision F-Strike: Upon realizing she's getting attached to Izuku, she lets one out.
  • Strong and Skilled: One of the reasons she is such a hard opponent to beat is the fact that she knows how to use her strength to the fullest and how to fight without just throwing more power at a problem. She spends most of their first spar outright manhandling Izuku due to her superior skill.

    Hawks

Keigo Takami — Hawks

Quirk: Fierce Wings

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/keigo_takami_hero_costume_anime_action.png

The current Number Two Hero and Fumikage's mentor.

  • Commonality Connection: He admits to having recruited Tokoyami because he is a bird too.
  • Everyone Has Standards: He is shocked when the President tells him to kill Twice because his "Sad Man's Parade" move is too dangerous to be used against them.
  • Indentured Servitude: Officially, he's under the direct employ of the HPSC, but in practice, he owns nothing, not even his casual/civilian clothes are his own. This means that, despite his wings, he's very much a caged bird.
  • Made a Slave: According to La Brava, Hawks is a slave in all but name.
La Brava: His agency, his apartment, his bank accounts, everything is owned by the HPSC or is filtered through it. His merchandising deals aren't signed in his name. Hell, even his casual clothes are technically HPSC property!
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: In a way. After he injures Twice's leg, this causes the Double user to overcome his mental blockade and unlock his "Sad Man's Parade" move, and worsened the HPSC President's mental state.

    Celerity

Tensei Iida — Ingenium I/Celerity II

Quirk: Engine

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tensei_iida_hero_costume_vigilantes.png

Tenya's older brother and head of the Ida Ten Agency. He temporarily retired from Heroics after being maimed by the Hero Killer but returned to it after Izuku healed his back using Overhaul. Since Tenya already took the mantle of Ingenium from him, Tensei reclaims his father's hero name, Celerity, as his own.

    Ms. Joke

Emi Fukakado — Ms. Joke

Quirk: Outburst

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/laugh_dammit.png

A Ketsubutsu teacher that Class 1-A meet during the License Exam. She is also an old acquitance of Aizawa and his eventual girlfriend.

    Native

Native

Quirk: Totem

A Pro Hero saved by Tenya during the Internships week.

  • Back for the Dead: After being missing since his rescue during the Internships arc, he returns in Chapter 77, only to die at the hands of two High Ends.
  • Cruel and Unusual Death: While we never get to see it happening, Native is left at the mercy of two vicious and bloodthirsty Nomus before dying, and the description states he screamed a lot until he finally died.
  • Determinator: Despite being completely outnumbered against the Hound Nomu, he tries his best to take the monster down, and temporarily succeeds, at least until the Elephant Nomu shows up.
  • Good Feels Good: He has no problem doing small time jobs as hero, he just cares about helping as much as possible and feels genuinely good about it.
  • Hope Spot: After knocking out the Hound Nomu, it seems like Native will have a chance to make out of the fight alive, only for the Elephant Nomu show up and kill that chance. Worst of all, the Hound Nomu immediately gets up from all the damage it took and goes after him. The end result ended up being to gruesome to be shown on page.
  • My Greatest Second Chance: He makes the best he can out of his life after being saved from Stain. The major proof is how many lives he saved thanks to his warning about the High Ends loose in the country.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: Despite dying not long after being brought back to the story, he manages to successfully warn his fellow heroes about the threat of the High End Nomus and ends saving countless lives in the process, even if he never lived to find out.
  • Summon Magic: His Quirk, Totem, allows him to summon any kind of animal, both real and mythical, and use their abilities.
  • What You Are in the Dark: Upon encountering the Hound Nomu, Native could have easily just sent a message out and left the place before the monster noticed him, given their immense difference in power. Instead, he tries to take it on, and even after it becomes obvious he won't survive after being injured and the Elephant Nomu joins the fight, he refuses to run away or give into fear.

Santo Kaliman

    In General
Mexico's top Hero School. First mentioned during Izuku's trip to I-Island, they end up meeting with U.A. students during their training exercise at Kuraudo Island.
  • Birds of a Feather: The students bond over Class 1-A over their similar personalities and hobbies:
    • All Might and El Popo have been friends for years, as the Number One Heroes of their respective countries.
    • Donald, Kyoka, Denki, and Itsuka share their love for music.
    • Cesar with Eijiro and Tetsutetsu over fighting and manly things.
    • Maria and Estela with Mina, Toru, and Setsuna over their love for gossip and teasing people.
    • Xochitl with Momo, Ibara, and Kinoko over their similar Quirks and love for nature.
    • Hugo with Melissa and Mei over being Teen Genius.
    • Lupita with Pony over their love for anime.
    • Tigre and Izuku over their love for All Might and being The Ace of their respective classes.
  • Hero of Another Story: They are perfectly capable of heading up their own spin-off story with how rich their characters are.
  • Original Character: All of them were created specifically for the Jurassic arc.

    El Popo

Popocatepetl "El Popo", the Volcanic Hero

Quirk: Igneous

One of Mexico's top heroes and teacher at Santo Kaliman Academy. Who, much like All Might, took up a teaching position as he prepares for his own retirement.
  • The Ace: He is Mexico's Number One Hero and one of the most powerful heroes in the world.
  • Amazing Technicolor Population: His "skin" is a pitch-black layer of obsidian that covers his actual skin.
  • Dishing Out Dirt: El Popo's Quirk, in addition to controlling magma and lava, also grants full control over igneous rock, such as obsidian, which the hero can turn back into lava again and vice versa.
  • The Dreaded: His students are rightly afraid of him. Given how he casually speaks of giving his students lava baths, there are reasons for it.
  • Drill Sergeant Nasty: He treats his students the way Gunnery Sergeant Hartman treated the Marine trainees.
  • Expy: A blatant one to Mr. Popo from Dragon Ball Abridged.
  • Functional Addict: Consumes peyote by the truck, but is still one of Mexico's best heroes.
  • Magma Man: He has an incredibly powerful volcano quirk.
  • Noodle Incident: Whatever got him banned from Japan. All we know is that part of it was him having his body weight in peyote on his luggage.
  • Really 700 Years Old: He was one of the people that helped create Kuraudo Island a century or two before.

    Tigre

Tigre Diego Ocelopilli Kin'ich Pakal Hyouhen y Chak Balam — White Jaguar

Quirk: Mythical Jaguar

A heroics student from Mexico and friend of Melissa.
  • The Ace: Tigre is one of the few people that has been able to beat Izuku in a fight. He is also the top student at his hero school.
  • Battle Aura: Mythical Jaguar allows him generate an aura with his body in one of seven colors that embody one of seven elements and they grant him offensive, defensive, and mobility powers that enhance the physical prowess of his heteromorphic jaguar features.
  • The Bus Came Back: He returns in Chapter 55, where it is revealed he's been doing long-distance dating with Pony.
  • Chekhov's Gunman: Tigre is mentioned during Izuku and All Might's talk with David and Melissa Shield in Chapter 11.
  • Color Character: White Jaguar.
  • Color-Coded Elements: His Quirk allows him to use different abilities based on what color his spots are at the moment - red for fire, orange for lightning, yellow for earth, green for wood, blue for wind, indigo for water, and purple for shadow.
  • Foil: In many ways, he is one to Shoto. Both are The Ace of their respective classes, both are children of their countries top heroes, although Tigre's mother is also a Pro, and both have Quirks that are perfect matches of their parents' ones, although in Tigre's case, that was completely accidental. Shoto is also the youngest of four siblings due to Endeavor's plans, while Tigre is an only child, with his parents too tied up with their jobs as Pro Heroes to have more.
  • Heroic Lineage: His mother and father are Pro Heroes from Mexico.
  • Meaningful Name:
    • Apart for his name fitting his appearance, the translation of his name into kanji contains the kanji for "blood", "fear" and "rip"/"tear".
    • His super moves and "Smashes" are all named after Mesoamerican cities.
  • Multiform Balance: His different elemental colours also enhance his physical attributes, such as his yellow earth powers making him more durable, his blue wind powers making him faster, and his purple shadow powers making him more stealthy.
  • Never Heard That One Before: Says as much when Menagerie warns the students that they shouldn't fight him, because he's more than capable of killing them.
  • One-Scene Wonder: In-Universe. Tigre shows up in chapter 33 but he takes up a good portion of the chapter to explain who he is and what he can do. Subverted when he returns for a later arc.
  • OC: Tigre is created by the author and has no canon source.
  • Overly Long Name: His name is 9 words long.
  • Polyglot: He can speak multiple languages. His Japanese is somewhat broken, but he still can talk.
  • Ship Tease: With Pony. The two regularly converse after meeting on I-Island, and he gets visibly flustered when talking about her. They later make out in the forest near the end of their trip to Kuraudo Island.
  • Superpower Lottery: His Quirk is an accidental match made in Heaven between his father's Onca and his mother's Rainbow.
  • Training from Hell: His training with El Popo is so traumatizing that he prefers not even think about it.
  • Why Didn't I Think of That?: Until Izuku suggested it, he had never tried to summon different spot colors on different parts of his body at the same time.

    Maria Zapata

Maria Zapata — Tarantella

Quirk: Multi-Legs

One of Tigre's classmates from Santo Kaliman.
  • Animal-Themed Superbeing: Subverted. Despite her Quirk and her Hero name being derived from a word that has roots in the word "tarantula", her Quirk itself is not spider-related, as she had a non-reaction to Koda's Quirk after it evolved.
  • Commitment Issues: Despite her romanticism, she gets cold feet rather easy.
  • Meaningful Name: Zapata means "shoe", while tarantella is a Italian folk dance that came out of the belief that a species of spider's bite caused dance hysteria.
  • Mirror Character:
    • She is described as the Mexican version of Mina and Setsuna.
    • Her quirk is basically a leg-based version of Shoji's.

    Donald Moreno

Donald Moreno — Don of the Dead

Quirk: Necrodancer

One of Tigre's classmates from Santo Kaliman.
  • Conspiracy Theorist: Going by his conversation with his classmates, Donald tends to see abusive relationships everywhere. While he was right once, his friends are rather tired of him assuming any unusual relationship is abusive.
  • Musical Assassin: His Quirk requires he play music to work. Should he stop, the skellies he controls disintegrate after a minute without his music.
  • Night of the Living Mooks: Donald's Quirk lets him create six skeleton constructs (originally three) which he controls.
  • Not What It Looks Like: Because Necrodancer involves skeletal constructs, which may make people think he has a necromancy Quirk with extra steps, Donald has gotten very good at quickly explaining that the constructs are not true human remains.
  • Punny Name: His hero name is play with the name of the movie Dawn of the Dead (1978).
  • Skull for a Head: Has a skull for a head, with the only fleshy bits he has up top are his eyes, eye lids, and tongue.

    Hugo Cabezón

Hugo Cabezón — Pensadorado

Quirk: Mental Network

  • Meaningful Name: "Cabezón" means "big head", perfect for someone with a mental quirk.
  • Why Didn't I Think of That?: The skills he implants in people (or borrows for himself) fade over time, but until Izuku asked, he never considered practicing said skill would help them stay.

    Cesar Tiburcio

Cesar Tiburcio — Rey del Tiburón

Quirk: Sharkskin

  • Kay Fabe: It's implied that Cesar's rude and abrasive behavior is an act he puts on as part of his Hero persona (specifically the Lucha Libre "rudo" archetype), not his real personality.
  • Meaningful Name: "Tiburcio" shares a root with "tiburón", shark.
  • Mirror Character: He physically resembles Eijiro and Tetsutetsu.
  • Threatening Shark: His Quirk gives him the skin and teeth of a shark.

    Lupita Villalobos

Lupita Villalobos — Cadeja

Quirk: Heaven or-Hell-Hound

  • Beware the Nice Ones: She tears into Donald when his latest conspiracy theories regarding abusive relationships go too far, only to then sit back down in embarrassment. As it turns out, Lupita has something of an anger problem, which can end up influencing her Quirk.
  • Hell Hound: Half of her transformation turns her into one of these. It is noted to be stronger than her white form, but it's also The Berserker of the two.
  • Jekyll & Hyde: Her Quirk has a unique… quirk that ties into her hero name: her emotions plays a role in which of her animal forms she takes. If she is calm, she transforms into her white cadejo form (the Jekyll), but if she is angry, she transforms into her black cadejo form (the Hyde).
  • Meaningful Name: While "Lupita" is usually a nickname for girls named "Guadalupe", in this instance it comes from the latin "lupus", wolf, and "Villalobos" is Spanish for "house of wolves", referencing her multiple forms.
  • Power Incontinence: Lupita used to transform into her black cadejo form more often because she had repressed her anger which ended up coming out via her Quirk.
  • Shrinking Violet: She's quite timid.

    Estela de Soto

Estela de Soto — Duende

Quirk: Jaunt

    Xochitl Ortega

Xochitl Ortega — Poinsettia

Quirk: Botanical Synthesis

Xavier Institute

    Alistair Avery

Alistair Avery — Principatus

Quirk: Unnamed Wings Quirk

  • Jerkass: His first scene is repeatedly insulting Monoma for perceived slights, such as Monoma being surprised he's fluent in Japanese.
  • Mirror Character: Avery acts very similarly to how Monoma did at the start of the story, including believing Monoma thinks he's better than him just because the teen has fought real villains. When Avery begins to badmouth 1-A, it (finally) triggers Monoma's Heel Realization as he realizes the similarities.

One for All's Torchbearers

    In General

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/one_for_all_vestiges_28heroes_rising29_6.png
The Previous Wielders, clockwise: Daigoro Banjo/Lariat, the Fifth; En Rokubu/En, the Sixth; Toshinori Yagi/All Might, the Eighth; Ryouji Futawasa/Slingshot, the Second; Isamu Mitsunami/Charger/Naikaken, the Third; Hikage Shinomori, the Fourth; Yoichi Shigaraki, the First; and in the center, Nana Shimura/Nimbus, the Seventh.

The previous holders of One for All. Due to the Quirk hitting singularity much earlier than anticipated, they can talk with Izuku and gradually give him their original Quirks.

  • Ascended Extra: While the Vestiges are important in canon, their activeness pops up earlier than in canon and they play a much more important role in Izuku's development.
  • Family of Choice: Izuku ends up seeing them this way, which they reciprocate (with even the second and third holders eventually coming around).
  • Honorary Uncle: They appoint themselves to positions as Izuku's honorary family, with Yoichi (First) as the grandfather, Hikage (Fourth) and Daigoro (Fifth) as his uncles, En (Sixth) as his big brother/cousin, and Nana (Seventh) and All Might as his parents. Ryouji (Second) and Isamu (Third) initially refused to participate, so the others name them the crazy uncles they keep locked up in the attic until they finally broke down. For his part, Izuku happily accepts them all as family, using the proper Japanese Honorifics when speaking of them.
  • Numerical Theme Naming: All who either contributed to the creation of One For All or inherited it happens to have parts of their name be homophones with a number in Japanese or use the kanji for those numbers, from zero to nine. The Torchbearers only realized Izuku fit after Satsuki used the kanji for nine when she misspelled Izuku's first name on her art piece.
  • Our Ghosts Are Different: A level 3 bond with their linked girl allows the individual Vestige to manifest in the real world and be seen by Izuku and anyone else at the third level bond. A level 4 bond allows others to see the Vestige when they manifest in the real world, for two hours and within a certain radius of Izuku, though as time went on, the distance restriction has gotten more lax.
  • Spirit Advisor: They're long dead, but nevertheless provide Izuku with both much needed guidance and emotional support.
  • Superior Successor: Due to One for All's mechanism, each of them was this to their predecessor.
  • You Can See Me?: Or hear, rather. The Vestiges have this reaction when Izuku reacts to the comments they make about his life very early on. When Nana manifests after the Kamino raid, she asks this to Inko, who is seeing her due to the Level 4 bond.
    • During Re-Destro's attempt to kill All Might and Inko, Isamu appeared and revealed this ability to be visible to others is allowed to be as selective as the Vestige wants to be, as Isamu wanted to be visible to only Re-Destro.
  • You Are Not Alone: They are able to support Izuku even in his worse moments.

    The First Bearer

Yoichi Shigaraki

Quirk: Gift *

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/yoichi_talks_to_izuku.png

All for One's brother. Initially believed to be Quirkless, until his brother transferred him a power stockpile Quirk. Turns out he had a Quirk which allowed him to transfer his Quirk to others, and both Quirks ended up merging into One for All. Responsible for Izuku's bond with Momo.

  • Adaptational Name Change: Yoichi's original Quirk has gone unnamed. In Kyuseishu's Hero Analysis, Izuku dubbed it Gift in Yoichi's file for the sake of differentiating from before Power Stockpile's integrating.
  • Adaptation Personality Change: He's notably more irreverent and playfully snarky than in canon while still firmly being the kindhearted and gentle and good natured Greater-Scope Paragon among the One For All collective. As implied by his "I died memeing the first time, I'll die memeing again" comment, he went out blatantly snarking at his older brother, which while absolutely amazing, paints him as nowhere near the stoic solemn figure that canon has him being.
  • Adaptational Sexuality: His sexuality is unknown in canon. Here, he's asexual.
  • Cain and Abel: He's the Abel to All for One's Cain.
  • Defiant to the End: As expected for a self-proclaimed Meme Lord, his last act of defiance was to snark at his brother. Yoichi's final words were revealed in chapter 36. Facing his brother, on the verge of death, and having already passed on One for All, he said:
  • Delicate and Sickly: Yoichi referred to having asthma, arrhythmia, myalgia, and an unidentified immune disorder in Kyuseishu when he was alive, and so he was constantly bedridden, and his myriad of illnesses is why he gotten his streak of Gallows Humor.
  • Fountain of Memes: In-Universe example. Yoichi is the main source of pop culture references from the pre-Quirk era.
  • Gallows Humor: When the Vestiges mention to Izuku One for All's Deadly Upgrade notion, he jokes that, even if it wouldn't have affected him, he would have still died young. Having so many illnesses in his youth might have "helped" get Yoichi this kind of mentality.
  • Greater-Scope Paragon: He was the one that started the line of the One for All Torchbearers, and passed the Quirk down when it became obvious he was not strong enough to stop his brother.
  • I Will Only Slow You Down: The reason he passed OFA on Ryouji. He knew even with the boost he'd be a hindrance to him and Isamu.
  • The Immune: Discussed, but due to the fact his natural Quirk merged with the Stockpile Quirk and became one singular Quirk, it's possible Yoichi would not be subject to the life force draining aspect of OFA. Yoichi shoots it down, stated even if he had been immune, he'd probably not live to see his 40s anyways due to his poor health.
  • Meaningful Name: His given name essentially translates into "(the) gifting one".
  • Names to Run Away from Really Fast: Downplayed. Izuku calls Yoichi's surname, which means something to the effect of "Death-gripping tree", morbid.
  • Power-Up Letdown: One For All in his hands only slightly improved his health.
  • Troll: In Kyuseishu's Hero Analysis, Izuku mentions how Yoichi seemed to thrive off of the groaning he gets from Isamu and Ryouji suffering off his memes. Hell, he even says it to their faces while the Torchbearers and the Ennead were cheering up Toru when she got a jealousy-induced depression over Camie's Quirk during the Provisional Hero License Exams.
    • En mentioned to Aizawa that had it not been for the Level 4 Bond limits for Vestige manifestation having a hard cap with distance and time limit, Yoichi would spend every spare moment doing victory dances in front of his incarcerated brother. He finally gets to dance to his heart's content when Izuku visits Tartarus to try and fix the Winged Nomu.

    The Second Bearer

Ryouji Futatsuya — Slingshot

Quirk: Laser Disc

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/second_ofa_user.png

Yoichi's successor, who lived through the peak of All for One's reign of terror over Japan. Responsible for Izuku's bond with Yui. Temporarily responsible for Izuku's bond with Toga.

  • '90s Anti-Hero: Implied by the other vestiges. He lived through a dark age, dislikes All Might for being "too soft", and the other vestiges call him an "edgelord".
  • Adaptational Name Change: The Second User's full name has yet to be revealed in canon, with only his canonical surname Kudo currently being known. Here, he's Ryouji Futatsuya and his vigilante alias was Slingshot.
  • Adaptational Sexuality: His sexuality in canon remains unknown. In this fic, he is homosexual and married to Isamu.
  • Adaptational Superpower Change: Due to being written before the Second's canon Quirk was revealed, the author reverse-engineered it and thought it was solely projectile based helped with the logic of the support gear the Second had on him and addressing the need for actual range, resulting in Laser Disc. Come manga chapter 368-369, it's been revealed to be "Gearshift": a touch-activated Super-Speed Quirk with power levels named after the speeds of a gearbox.
  • Badass Teacher: As society seems to collapse again following the HPSC leaks, he and Isamu join the U.A. staff to teach the students Underground Heroics as well as how to fight dirty.
  • Does This Remind You of Anything?: He was the only child with a Quirk in a Quirkless family. While his family loved and supported him nonetheless, society did not. In fact, they forced him to hide who really was out of hate towards him. The fact the Ryouji is homosexual doubles on the parallels between persecution against Quirked individuals and prejudice against the LGBT community.
  • Cold Sniper: His attitude to dealing with annoyances compared to Bakugo is to go quiet, find a good vantage point, and throw a disc for a headshot.
  • Everyone Has Standards:
    • He was once bullied by Quirkless people because he had a Quirk, and is disgusted to see the opposite thing is now common.
    • He's also outraged by Endeavor's actions towards his family, immediately suggesting they kill him. Izuku's reaction, while it doesn't bring him around, it does make it obvious he's getting closer.
    • Ryouji was fully prepared to kill Yoichi when they met, expecting him to be living like king in a palatial estate or something, surrounded by Mugen's top enforcers as protection. When he found Yoichi, in a forgotten vault (very much implying All For One sees him less as a beloved family member and more as a possession), sickly and begging to be freed, Ryouji immediately decided to take him with him and Isamu instead of going through with it.
  • The Friend Nobody Likes: Other than the Third Bearer, who was his friend and lover in life, none of the other vestiges like him, and the feeling is mutual.
  • I Did What I Had to Do: How he justifies all the people he had to kill back in his time. Considering they were mostly either government-sanctioned murderers of meta-humans or All for One supporters, he can hardly be blamed.
  • In Love with Your Carnage: Izuku's speech about ruining Endeavor impresses him. Not as much as the third bearer, but still.
  • It Was a Gift: How he sees Yoichi giving him One For All. In his eyes, Yoichi gave up part of his very soul to give them a better shot at beating All For One.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Best exemplified on his entry at Kyuseishu's Heroic Analysis:
Ryouji, on Izuku's notes: '' I still might have given you One for All if it were my choice instead of All Might. He's too much of a goody-two-shoes for my tastes, but I'll admit you had the right instincts with that Sludge Villain. And in this society? I'd give you my Meta Ability in a fucking heartbeat, partly because you needed one to fucking survive without getting shat on, and partly to spite every single Quirked brat out there who decided that, since we ended up taking the top spot that we got to be the same class of bastard that tried to kill us."
Izuku, on his notes: I'll freely admit, I cried when he said that. Which made him want to take it back.
  • La Résistance: He was the leader of a group of vigilantes that fought against the Quirkist government and later All for One's shadow rule.
  • Last Kiss: How he passed One for All to his husband Isamu, before leaving to fight All for One and dying in the process.
  • Professional Killer: Calling it "professional" might be a stretch, but (partially) as a result of living during the height of AFO's power, Ryouji has a fairly high body count he's not at all remorseful about. It's this Commonality Connection that allows Toga to (temporarily) bond with Izuku.
  • Related in the Adaptation: In canon, All for One killed every single member of the Second Bearer's family (in addition to the man himself) out of revenge for stealing his property (i.e. Yoichi), meaning he has no relation to Bakugou whatsoever. Here, however, he is a distant ancestor to Bakugou through his sister.
  • Running Gag: In-Universe. Ryouji, in Isamu's chapter of Kyuseishu's Heroic Analytics, often teases Isamu over how his lover's Quirk is so basic.
  • Strong Family Resemblance: Downplayed, but he certainly believes that his sister is somewhere in Bakugou's family tree due to somewhat resembling Katsuki. In Ryouji's segment in Kyuseishu's Hero Analysis, Mitsuki looked into the family registry and found that her maternal great-grandmother was a Futatsuya, but as the given name didn't match, it had to be a descendant of Ryouji's sister. Later confirmed in the video leak of Isamu's capture of Destro, where Isamu dropped the bombshell that the MLA is the reason Ryouji's sister (among so many other non-Metas) was buried.
  • Taking You with Me: He went out in a blaze of glory, by overcharging Laser Disc and destroying Mugen's headquarters. While Mugen survived, his inner circle was mostly killed, and he lost many resources, forcing him underground and allowing the government to reform.
  • Villain Killer: Ryouji killed many of All for One supporters back in the day. In his final operation, he overcharged a Laser Disc and single-handedly destroyed Mugen's headquarters and killed most of his inner circle, effectively ending his open tyrannical rule and forcing him to attempt to take over the world from the shadows.

    The Third Bearer

Isamu Mitsunami — Charger/Naikaken

Quirk: Fa Jin

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/third_ofa_user.png

The Second Bearer's friend, husband and successor. Like him, he lived through the peak of All for One's reign of terror. Responsible for Izuku's bond with Nejire.

  • '90s Anti-Hero: Implied by the other vestiges. He lived through a dark age, dislikes All Might for being "too soft", and the other vestiges call him an "edgelord". He also proposes killing Endeavor after learning how horribly abusive the man is.
  • Adaptational Name Change: The Third User's full name has yet to be revealed in canon, with only his first name being revealed as Bruce. Here, he's Isamu Mitsunami and his vigilante alias was Charger.
  • Adaptational Sexuality: His sexuality in canon remains unknown. In this fic, he is homosexual and was married to Ryouji until Slingshot's death.
  • An Offer You Can't Refuse: One For All was thrusted onto Hikage by a dying Isamu forcing him to swallow some of his blood off his fingers after he had explained everything about OFA & AFO, but Hikage mentioned in Isamu's chapter he would have accepted anyways if he able to give a choice.
  • Badass Teacher: As society seems to collapse again following the HPSC leaks, he and Ryouji join the U.A. staff to teach the students Underground Heroics as well as how to fight dirty.
  • Charged Attack: His Quirk, Fa Jin, allows the user to charge energy by moving a limb like a pump, and then letting all of it loose in one go.
  • Clark Kenting: With his hair down, domino mask and a much more polite speaking pattern, nobody recognizes that he is the vigilante that took down Destro over a century ago.
  • Does This Remind You of Anything?: He was a Quirked boy who grew up in a wealthy Quirkless family, and so he had to hide his ability to be accepted, but as soon as they found out about it, they kicked him out onto the streets. The fact that Isamu is also homosexual doubles on the parallels between persecution against Quirked individuals and prejudice against the LGBT community.
  • Dope Slap: Threw some during the length of his chapter in Kyuseishu's Heroic Analysis, to Ryouji for calling his Quirk "basic enough to neutralize Ashido's Quirk" and to Banjo for being called the "mom friend" of his resistance cell.
  • Everyone Has Standards:
    • He was once bullied by Quirkless people because he had a Quirk, and is disgusted to see the opposite thing is now common.
    • He's also enraged by Endeavor's actions towards his family. Izuku deciding to destroy the man but leave him alive to live with the consequences causes him to decide to give Izuku Fa Jin.
    • While he did not like Quirkless people for the prejudice he was put through most of his life, he was disgusted by Destro's Fantastic Racism, saying that the MLA behaved exactly like the monsters that the media framed Quirked individuals as, and was no better than the governments that hunted down and killed Metas in the past.
  • Famed In-Story:
    • Defied when he was alive. Nobody knows he was the one who defeated Destro because the government of the time did its best to cover up the fact he was responsible.
    • Played straight when Gentle, La Brava, and Compress release a video of their fight showing his victory and his speech against Destro, giving him vindication long after his death, much to his delight and Ryouji's consternation.
  • The Friend Nobody Likes: Other than the Second Bearer, who was his friend and lover in life, none of the other vestiges like him, and the feeling is mutual.
  • Hidden Depths: Before the rise of Quirks caused society to collapse, he learned formal dancing, something he later taught to Izuku. This is a holder to his time as a member of high society.
  • In Love with Your Carnage: Izuku's speech of how he's going to utterly destroy Endeavor and leave him to live with the consequences of his actions convinces him to give the boy Fa Jin as soon as he can.
  • It's Personal: The video leak done by Gentle, La Brava, and Compress revealed one additional reason Isamu went to war against the MLA: they murdered Ryouji's Quirkless sister and made her daughter an orphan.
  • Last Kiss: How his husband Ryouji passed One for All to Isamu, before leaving to fight All for One and dying in the process.
  • Meaningful Rename: His new hero name, Naikaken, is the Japanese term for Neijia, the "internal martial arts" that focuses on techniques such as Fa Jin.
  • Noodle Incident: He once loaned Destro 1500 yen, which the asshole never returned before his arrest and death. He tells his descendant Re-Destro that he intends to collect them, personally, with interests.
  • Not So Great Escape: His death. All For One almost captured him but narrowly evaded capture that would have resulted in OFA's theft, thanks to timely assistance from Hikage, but in the process was inflicted with mortal wounds that eventually killed him.
  • Speak Ill of the Dead: Has no problem in telling Re-Destro that Destro killed himself because he was afraid of Prison Rape.
  • Taught by Experience: He recognizes Tenya is going to try and get revenge on Stain because he's seen several other people do similar after experiencing a personal loss and recognizes the symptoms.
  • Take My Word for It: Izuku had searched up some of the actions the MLA had inflicted on the Quirkless in Isamu's time during his Analysis chapter, and dubbed it "grim". Isamu called them censored, and the truth is far worse.
  • Take That!: His opinion on Destro's memoirs.
It was the most self-serving pack of lies I ever read. I read it for free in a library and I still wanted my money back.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: Gives a beautiful and brutal one to Destro after defeating him:
Isamu: You idiot. You absolute buffoon. You wanted free use of Meta Abilities? Well, now there's no chance anyone will let that happen. Fuck, even other Metas want the laws to restrict their own abilities! You practically signed the restriction laws yourself! All because you got more of a kick out of killing baselines than actually doing something productive.
Destro: They deserve it! The damned throwbacks are our enemy! You know this! We fought against the death squads together! They're the bastards who slew my mother!
Isamu: Yeah, you don't get to pull that card. We all lost people we love. But you decided you wanted to be the one leading the mob stoning people to death. My late husband's sister was a baseline, and she loved her daughter, who has a Meta ability to make grease. She cared for her Meta daughter, and you fucking killed her. And she's not the only one. Now there's hundreds of Metas out there who're orphans, because their families didn't have any powers. You'd have killed your own mother. You already have.
  • We Need a Distraction: Trash-talks Re-Destro when he attacks All Might and Inko, giving the latter time to rally back and pummel the asshole into the ground.

    The Fourth Bearer

Hikage Shinomori

Quirk: Danger Sense

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/hikage_shinomori_28anime29.png

The Third Bearer's successor. Spent most of his life living in a forest as a hermit, honing One for All. Responsible for Izuku's bond with Mei.

  • An Offer You Can't Refuse: One For All was thrusted onto rookie Vigilante Hikage by a dying Isamu forcing him to swallow some of his blood off his fingers after he had explained everything about OFA & AFO, but Hikage mentioned in Isamu's chapter he would have accepted anyways if he was able to give a choice.
    • That being said, in his own segment, he didn't care for a repeat so he made sure Banjo was aware he had a choice in the matter, to which Banjo corroborated that he would have rejected it if Hikage had been forceful.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Manage to pull Isamu away from certain capture from All For One.
  • The Chooser of the One: He was the first Bearer to consciously choose someone else, picking Lariat.
  • The Comically Serious: Most of Hikage's interactions end up this way, as it is hard to note when he's being serious or not.
  • Four Is Death: The Fourth Torchbearer died at the age of forty from Rapid Aging induced by One for All being in his body for too long without passing it on.
  • History Repeats: Hikage was inspired to be a hero via American comic books, which were banned in Japan during the Dark Ages. Yoichi is convinced half the reason that ban came to existence is because of Mugen's petty ass trying to snuff out the comics Yoichi loves, and the other Vestiges are in agreement.
  • Irony: Spent most of his life living in a forest as a hermit, yet he's responsible for bonding Izuku to a girl with a strong interest in technology.
  • No Social Skills: Downplayed. Hikage has some social abilities, but it's still rather spotty.
  • Prophetic Names: His name is essentially "the Fourth's forest, hiding in the shadows", tying into his Self-Imposed Exile that spanned into much of his adult life.
  • Rapid Aging: The result of him carrying One for All for too long: the human body cannot sustain a Quirk from an outside source while also having an innate Quirk, as it essentially overclocks the Quirk factors. He died at forty, yet his autopsy befuddled doctors as it projected he was a much older man at death, and his dental records were brought in to help ID him.
  • Retirony: Inverted. Him getting One for All and his subsequent exile happened pretty early in his career as a Vigilante, citing it as his seventeenth day on the job.
  • Scars Are Forever: When he turned forty, his health went into decline at an alarming rate, and his body started to split apart, with those cracks still visible on his vestige.
  • Self-Imposed Exile: Knowing he couldn't beat All for One's stronger minions yet also cannot get a bunch of heroes/vigilantes together to fight them without getting their Quirks stolen or get labeled as villains by his more high-profile lackeys, Hikage had decided to cut himself off from civilization and went roughing it, driven by the singled minded goal to hone One for All for his successor.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: After getting One for All, he stayed in a forest to hone it for eighteen years — which not only makes him the one that had it the longest before All Might, it gave the Vestiges the clue about One for All being a Deadly Upgrade for Quirked people, since he was the only one that didn't die at Mugen's hands.
  • The Snack Is More Interesting: The reason he knows how long his brief stint as a Vigilante was is because he remembers it as the last day he had pizza.
  • Spider-Sense: His Quirk warns him of any approaching danger, the stronger the pain the greater danger.
    • His mother had a similar Quirk but it had the big negative of also giving her false positives, which eventually drove the poor woman into social reclusion.

    The Fifth Bearer

Daigoro Banjo — Lariat

Quirk: Blackwhip

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/daigoro_banjo_hero_costume_full_28anime29.png

Hikage Shinomori's successor and the first Bearer to be a professional hero rather than a vigilante. Responsible for Izuku's bond with Tsuyu.

  • Arbitrary Skepticism: Averted. He took Hikage's story of One for All all thanks to All for One being a recurring rumor he kept running into in his field.
  • Boisterous Bruiser: Izuku describes him as such.
  • Establishing Character Moment: Hikage first met Banjo when he was getting accosted by a testy glory-hound hero, and Lariat made the unnamed hero back off.
  • Cool Uncle: In the Family of Choice, he calls dibs on this position regarding Izuku.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Not quite as irreverent as Yoichi, but close enough.
  • Determinator: Upon facing off against All for One, he refused to give up no matter how difficult the fight was. Sadly, it wasn't enough to defeat the villain.
  • Humble Hero: He wasn't a popular hero during his career (admittedly, heroics has just become a legalized activity) and has no problem admitting that he had to rely on someone else to save the day.
  • Rule of Cool: This is the reason his supply holders and medical equipment are in bullet-shaped containers on his bandoleer.
  • Spanner in the Works: He and a group of heroes were responsible for foiling All for One's Evil Plan of having one of his minions steal the body of the Japanese Prime Minister back in the day.
  • Spontaneous Weapon Creation: His Quirk lets him create whips of a black material, which he can use to bring targets close or move around.
  • Why Didn't I Think of That?: His reaction when Izuku asks if he couldn't have passed One for All to En through facial hair instead of blood.

    The Sixth Bearer

En Rokubou — En

Quirk: Smokescreen

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/en_anime.png

Daigoro Banjo's successor and colleague. Responsible for Izuku's bond with Toru.

  • Adaptational Name Change: In canon, his full name is revealed to be En Tayutai, with his hero name being "Smoke-Eater." Here, his name is En Rokubou, with his hero name being "En."
  • Big Brother Mentor: His role in Izuku's Family of Choice.
  • The Cowl: According to Aizawa, he was a "legend" among Underground Heroes.
  • The Gadfly: Fitting for him being Izuku's "big brother", he's prone to making some fun of him in a teasing manner.
  • Named by the Adaptation: His last name in the manga is unknownnote . Here, it's "Rokubou" (following the wielders' Numerical Theme Naming, with "roku" being six).
  • Punny Name: As pointed out by Momo — Hero En and Sidekick Kagami. Both their names translates into "Smoke" and "Mirror". En, for his part, was unapologetically giddy at people realizing it.
  • Secret Public Identity: Uses his given name En as his hero name.
  • Tragic Keepsake: Of the 11 Quirks stolen from All For One during his disastrous theft attempt of One For All, Smoke Manipulation is the Quirk that once was owned by En's sidekick, Kagami, meaning he was also killed along with En.

    The Seventh Bearer

Nana Shimura — Nimbus

Quirk: Float

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/nana_shimura_anime.png

En Rokubou's successor, and All Might's mentor and predecessor. Responsible for Izuku's bond with Ochako.

  • The Chooser of the One: She was the one that chose Toshinori as her successor and trained him so he could inherit One for All.
  • Identical Stranger: Izuku in Kyuseishu had noted that Nana strongly resembles Inko, and was greatly disappointed when he went into the family registry and didn't find a Shimura. Inko later feels the same way after she and Nana had a little heart to heart.
  • The Leader: Despite being the more recent vestige barring Toshinori, she also has the most commanding presence.
  • My Greatest Failure: Having to leave Kotaro was this for her, and she feels the pain of it when Izuku learns her son died and her grandson killed the rest of his family and is currently being manipulated by All for One. Learning her son's anger over her leaving led to him becoming a domestic abuser did not help.
  • Named by the Adaptation: Her superhero name was unknown in the manga. Here, it's "Nimbus".
  • Parental Substitute: Zigzagged. More like "Parental Assistant". She mentioned taking the role of Izuku's mom if Inko weren't both alive and doing such a good job. En encourages her to do so, since nobody says that Izuku can't have two mothers, and Inko is happy to share the role with Nana.
    • She played this straight with Toshinori, as he never met his actual parents and saw in Nana the closest thing he had to a mother.
  • Smurfette Principle: Out of nine Torchbearers, she's the only female.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: Her decision to leave her son up for adoption backfired massively, leading to disastrous results in the present.

    The Eighth Bearer

Toshinori Yagi — All Might

Quirk: Quirkless (formerly One for All) Superpowernote

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/all_might_hero_form_full_body_9.png
The Symbol of Peace
Click here to see his real self post-injury
Click here to see him in his prime

Japan's #1 hero, UA's Heroics Course Teacher, Nana Shimura's successor, and the only of Izuku's predecessors who's still alive. His vestige hasn't fully formed, either because All Might still has some embers of One for All, he's still alive, or both. Responsible for Izuku's bond with Melissa Shield.

  • Anti-Mentor: Although All Might means well, the vestiges point out that his advice is hilariously bad.
    • Though they do admit that the only reason they're of any help is that they've been through One for All activating in each new holder multiple times, so they know how to help. Without that, they've admitted to being no better than All Might when it came to figuring out how to use One for All themselves.
    • In all fairness for All Might, Izuku is his first ever student in his decades of heroism, so his bad teaching is more a result of him being very green in teaching, and has improved as an educator as time went on.
  • Character Catchphrase: "I AM HERE!". Lampshaded by Yoichi, who jokes that All Might's first sentence when his vestige fully forms would be "I am here, in your head!".
  • The Chooser of the One: He was the one who picked Izuku as his successor, and trained him so he could get the body he needed to handle One for All.
  • Discard and Draw: When the embers of One for All finally burn out, Izuku creates a new gestalt Quirk called Superpower that he gives to Toshinori, which allows him to still remain in the fight, albeit at a fraction of his prime.
  • 11th-Hour Superpower: Thanks to his stronger link to Izuku and the past Torchbearers, All Might manages to summon the full strength of One for All (including the previous Torchbearers' Quirks) when he unleashes the United States of Smash on All for One.
  • Empowered Badass Normal: Izuku gives All Might part of One for All's power, as well as the copies of a few Quirks.
  • Fountain of Youth: Eri accidentally de-ages him a couple of decades.
  • He's Back!: While passing One for All to Izuku means he's lost a good part of his power, Eri accidentally using her Quirk on him restores him to his prime. While he still lost One For All as predicted, Izuku created a gestalt Quirk later dubbed Superpower for Toshinori to fight, though he would still be nowhere near the fighter he was with OFA.
  • Honorary Uncle: To Melissa Shield, the daughter of his first sidekick, David Shield.
  • Large Ham: His hero persona acts like this.
  • Like a Son to Me: How he sees Izuku, a feeling Izuku reciprocates.
  • Mindlink Mates: Izuku snuck Bonding into the gestalt Quirk he made for Toshinori, and he immediately connects Inko to it at Lv. 1 when she came to his line of sight.
  • My Greatest Failure: In the chaos following the Tea Spillers exposing the crimes of the HPSC, Toshinori has expressed the wish that he had used his considerable influence to mitigate their actions.
  • Noodle Incident: His fame is so great that at one point he somehow caused a nationwide spinach shortage just by saying he likes to garnish hamburgers with it instead of lettuce.
  • Once Done, Never Forgotten:
    • After Izuku mimics his "Eat this!" down to the facial expression, Toshinori lampshades that he's never going to live that down.
    • Same goes for his infamous "Clench your buttcheeks, and from the depths of your heart, yell 'SMASH'!" advice, which Izuku reveals during his interview with Mt. Lady and causes everyone to burst into laughter.
  • Only Sane Man: Acts as this to Nezu during Izuku's Quirk counseling session.
  • Parental Substitute: Acts as Izuku's surrogate father figure, with him calling Izuku his son while Izuku calls him his dad.
  • Second Love: He becomes this to Inko.
  • Ship Tease: Begins to have some of this with Inko after he shares the secret of One for All with her. Upgrades to a relationship during the I-Expo Arc.
  • Snark-to-Snark Combat: Briefly engages in this with All For One during Kamino.
All For One: So, you and your vaunted successor require little girls to fight your battles for you, All Might?
All Might: Well, we needed someone with the same maturity as your apprentice, Mugen, but there would be ethical problems associated with hiring preschoolers.
  • Superior Successor: He was the one to finally inflict a long-term defeat on All for One and break his control over Japan's underworld. Unfortunately, it was not as thorough as he had hoped.
  • Tears of Joy: He cries when he sees Izuku wearing a cape similar to the one Nana used to.
  • The Voiceless: His vestige can't talk yet. Izuku and the vestiges eventually realize it's because he's still alive. Needless to say, none of them is in a hurry for it to change.
    • He's finally able to when Izuku and Melissa's Bond reaches level 2. Sure enough, one of his first lines after realizing that is "I am here, in your heads."

Team Zero

    Hitoshi Marubashi

Hitoshi Marubashi — Zero

Quirk: Bonding

The original owner of the Bonding Quirk.

  • Babies Ever After: After surviving their encounter with All for One, Hitoshi and Shizuku had at least one descendent, a girl, whose grandchild would be Manami Aiba, the hacker vigilante La Brava.
  • La Résistance: He and Shizuku joined one shortly after they married; first fighting government kill squads, then fighting All for One.
  • Magikarp Power: Bonding starts out weak, but by growing his love with another person, his Quirk can do amazing things at later stages.
  • Meaningful Name: Hitoshi is nicknamed Zero due to having Maru in his name which symbolizes how he is one of the two predecessors to Yoichi, the first wielder of One for All.
  • Not Worth Killing: All for One cites this as his reason for leaving Hitoshi alive after taking his Quirk.
  • The Power of Love: His Quirk allows him and a bonded partner to become more powerful from the love they have for each other.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: His role in the story is minimal, but his Quirk merging with his wife's before it merged with Yoichi's is why One for All reached singularity earlier than when the vestiges expected, making it the biggest nail in the story.
  • Together in Death: The vestige version of him lets himself fade away when the Quirks fuse, not wanting to remain without his wife. Presumably the case with his real self as well.

    Shizuku Kendai

Shizuku Kendai — Zero

Quirk: Power Stockpile

The original owner of the Stockpile Quirk.

  • Babies Ever After: After surviving their encounter with All for One, Hitoshi and Shizuku had at least one descendant, a girl, whose grandchild would be Manami Aiba, the hacker vigilante La Brava.
  • Dangerous Phlebotinum Interaction: Turned out Power Stockpile didn't play nice while in All For One, and the reason why Mugen imparted it into Yoichi as soon as he was able was because it was trying to absorb the All For One Quirk.
  • Killed Off for Real: Subverted. Shizuku is seemingly killed when All for One impales her and steals her Quirk, but the final level of Bonding, Undying Bond, heals her injuries.
  • La Résistance: She and Hitoshi joined a group shortly after their marriage; first to fight government Anti-Quirk kill squads, then to fight All for One.
  • Meaningful Name: Shizuku is spelled with the kanji for zero, symbolizing how she is one of the two predecessors to Yoichi, the first wielder of One for All.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: Her role in the story is minimal, but her Quirk merging with Yoichi's is the reason One for All exists.
  • Super-Strength: Her Quirk allows her to become stronger over time.
  • Together in Death: The vestige version of Kendai lets herself fade away when the Quirks fuse with Yoichi's into One for All, not wanting to remain without her husband. Presumably the case with her real self as well.

    Inko Midoriya

Inko Midoriya

Quirk: Attraction of Small Objects

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/inko_midoriya.png

Izuku's mother, from whom he inherited his green hair, proneness to tear up, and penchant for mumble-storming when nervous. Having taken care of Izuku on her own for her entire life, she now sees her son grow into a hero.

  • Amazingly Embarrassing Parents: She can be this a bit for Izuku, as shown when she meets Ochako's parents.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: She is a gentle housewife who hasn't fought in her life and worries for her son. As Re-Destro finds out too late, that doesn't mean she's weak.
  • Empowered Badass Normal: Reaching Level 3 in her bond with Toshinori grants her increased strength and gives her Quirk a massive boost.
  • Faint in Shock: Inko faints soon after she is able to see Nana's Vestige, though at least manages to say hello to Nana before she conked out.
  • Fountain of Youth: Eri accidentally de-ages her several years.
  • Good Parents: She was Izuku's only parent for most of his life, and it is evident she did a wonderful job.
  • Heart Is an Awesome Power: The ability to manipulate small objects might seem weak, but as Toshinori discovered, the human body has enough of them that she can do some serious damage if she's angry. Re-Destro, who thought her a weak person, learned the truth too late, lost all of his teeth and got knocked out in the process.
  • In the Blood: Izuku inherited his mumble storms and Ocular Gushers from her.
  • Mama Bear: Toshinori finds out the hard way that when she's angry, Inko tends to use her Quirk unconsciously and that quite a few bones qualify as "small objects" to said Quirk.
  • Mindlink Mates: With Toshinori, thanks to Izuku sneaking in Bonding when he made a gestalt Quirk for Toshinori so All Might could still fight.
  • Ocular Gushers: She can cry so hard that she can faint from dehydration. She later triggers I-Island's flood warning system just from crying when All Might asks her out.
  • Open-Minded Parent: She has no problems when she learns the truth about One for All, and gladly does her best to support her son.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: She was the only true support Izuku had for most of his life. Even after Izuku finds friends and extra family in the form of the Vestiges, she's still Izuku's main pillar, and she approves of Nana taking on the role of step-mom in the Vestige "family".
  • Shared Family Quirks: She sometimes enters into mutter storms just like her son does, and both are rather emotional and easily moved to tears.
  • Ship Tease: Has something with Toshinori after he reveals the truth of One for All to her. Upgrades to a relationship during the I-Expo Arc.
  • Violently Protective Girlfriend: When Re-Destro threatens to kill All Might, she starts to rip his teeth and punches him in the kidney.

    Eri

Eri

Quirk: Rewind

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/eri_well_dressed.png

A child Izuku meets during his first patrol as part of the Nighteye Agency. She turns out to be the test subject of a Yakuza boss known as Overhaul.

  • Abusive Parents: Overhaul is not her actual father (more like a step-uncle), but he was the one "taking care" of her before Eri met Izuku — in actuality, using her as the source of a bullet-administered drug that can erase Quirks.
  • Adaptational Early Appearance: She shows up during the spring internship, rather than the autumn internship.
  • Animal Motifs: In this story, she is associated with narwhals (and occasionally unicorns), mostly due to her singular horn present on her left temple.
  • For Want Of A Nail: She escaped in the spring rather than the fall before meeting Izuku. This got Overhaul jailed faster and subsequently killed, allowed her to stay more active in the plot, as well as sinking the production of the Quirk-Erasing Drug, both the perfected version and more of it overall.
  • Happily Adopted: With the Ennead.
  • Hidden Depths: Eri might be a child, but she spent several years with the Yakuza. She is more than capable of dropping a Precision F-Strike.
    • As much of an adorable little girl as she may be, she is far more perceptive than she appears at first glance. A large part of why she doesn't call Monoma "Uncle" like she does for a number of other male characters is because she's aware that he's only nice to her, but is cruel and mean to her Family of Choice otherwise, putting him firmly in her list of people to be cautious about. The moment she realizes Monoma is honest when he apologizes to Izuku, she begins to call him "Uncle".
  • Loved by All:
    • Among the students of class 1-A and their families, absolutely everyone adores Eri. At one point, Tokoyami lampshades that she's going to be incredibly spoiled as she grows up.
    • Pretty much everyone who meets her ends up adoring her. Gang Orca is willing to take photos of Eri as payment for Tsuyu doing a work-study with him, and Mirko decides to stick around at U.A. for a while after Eri asks her.
    • After Izuku creates a social media account, pictures and videos of Eri interacting with her family, other students, and Pro Heroes are beloved by all those who follow Izuku online. In fact, they are so liked, they completely obscure the MLA's slander campaign against him.
  • Nerves of Steel: Eri's trauma made her nearly immune to otherwise nightmarish situations, like when the dinosaurs from Kuraudo Island go off control, or when Nine threatens her and the Shimano brothers, she doesn't show an ounce of fear while standing up against the villain.
  • Powered by a Forsaken Child: Overhaul was planning to use her as the source of a Quirk-erasing drug. Thankfully, his early defeat scuttled it.
  • Precision F-Strike: When Nine attacks her and her two new friends, Mahoro and Katsuma, Eri glares at him and tells him he's fucked.
  • Semantic Superpower: Her power lets her "rewind" living beings to a previous state. It is shown when she accidentally uses her power on a half-eaten orange: it begins to return to its previous uneaten state, then loses its ripeness, reverts back to a blossom, and disappears.
  • Spanner in the Works: Her existence and power cause Nighteye to realize the future can be changed, allowing him to discover how to help Endeavor fix his problems — and accidentally trip the League of Villains' plans.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Apples, like in canon.
  • Trauma Button: Tokoyami accidentally triggers her due to his head resembling the plague masks that Overhaul and his men wore. Dark Shadow's similarity to Blackwhip helps her overcome that fear.
    • Kota accidentally triggers her when he vents to her his hatred of heroes, giving her flashbacks to Overhaul's own opinions, and took his words to mean that she was better off in Overhaul's "care".

    Hisashi Midoriya

Hisashi Midoriya

Quirk: Fire Breath

Izuku's father, who works in the United States and from whom he inherited his freckles and curly hair.

  • Assassin Outclassin': An amazing feat for a civilian, but Hisashi successfully evaded several assassination attempts by MLA agents after he and his team started to investigate Curious' company.
  • Berserk Button: Learning about his cousin Enji's abuse of his family causes him to roar in fury, resulting in him breathing fire so hard that it can be seen through a door's lines for five straight minutes.
  • Breaking the Cycle of Bad Parenting: The reason why he moved to live in America and divorced Inko is so that there'd be no risk of Izuku suffering from him being an abusive father when he himself grew up with abusive parental figures.
  • Clueless Chick-Magnet: When Hisashi shows a picture of his female coworkers looking longingly at him to his cousin Endeavor, the latter asks if he's dating anyone. As any typical Harem protagonist would answer, he answers no, listing his divorcee and deadbeat dad status, though at least he is more justified than most to not see it. He's made aware of it during his call to Izuku.
  • Daddy Had a Good Reason for Abandoning You: Hisashi stays out of his son's life because he himself had a poor childhood with abusive caretakers that left him with anger issues and a lasting fear that he would be abusive to Izuku in turn. When asked by Momo's parents, who are his bosses, why he doesn't explain this to Izuku, he explains he fears Izuku would just interpret it as him trying to ride his coattails now that he is so successful.
  • Damned by Faint Praise: Outright drops the name of the trope when Izuku says he didn't treat his son the same way Endeavor treated Shoto.
Hisashi: Faintest praise I've ever been damned by.
  • Do Wrong, Right: He lambasts one of the assassins sent after him for their shoddy attempt at a car bomb.
  • Fiery Redhead: Deconstructed. Due to his childhood, he's got anger issues, which makes it hard for him to control his temper, and chose to divorce Inko and leave his family before he and his fire-breathing Quirk did something he would regret.
  • Foil: To Endeavor, his cousin.
    • Both men are Fiery Redheads with Quirks that let them emit fire, have terrible tempers, and married gentle women. However, while Hisashi married Inko for love, Endeavor (mostly) married Rei for the sake of having a child with a Quirk combining theirs.
    • Endeavor eventually became abusive towards his family, but Hisashi decided to leave Inko and Izuku before he could end up doing that, supporting them financially from afar.
    • Endeavor seeks to become the strongest hero, while Hisashi remains a subordinate to his bosses and sends most of the money he earns to Inko and Izuku.
    • Endeavor is trying to vicariously live the idea of becoming Japan's Number One Hero through his son Shoto, while Hisashi knows that trying to return to Izuku's life now that he's famous would look very suspect.
    • Endeavor has a one-sided rivalry with All Might, but Hisashi is happy to learn his son has taken the hero as his role model and that his ex-wife is dating him.
  • Forensic Accounting: It's his job to make sure the Yaoyorozu Group's finances are in order and to report and investigate suspicious transactions to his bosses. He's saved Momo's parents millions by preventing fraud and embezzlement. He's even managed to crack Nezu's finances.
  • Hero of Another Story: Played for Laughs. Word of God describes him as the harem protagonist of his own spin-off story, complete with five beautiful co-workers in love with him, and Hisashi being completely oblivious to it. At least until Izuku and his girlfriends point it out and the co-workers flat-out admit it to his face, leaving him flabbergasted. He also begins to have his own adventures by dealing with the assassins trying to kill him.
  • I Want My Beloved to Be Happy: He's glad to learn that All Might has been able to step in as Izuku's father and Inko's lover. Also, before telling the Yaoyorozus about his relationship with his son, he asks for a contract to say that his ex-wife and son will still be cared for even if they fire him for what he tells them.
  • Like Father, Like Son:
    • He's clearly as intelligent as his son, applying that to become one of Japan's best forensic accountants.
    • Turns out he's just as good at catching female attention as Izuku. And just as bad at missing it without a Quirk telling him about it.
  • Mugging the Monster: The Meta Liberation Army sent multiple assassins after him once they learned he was the one investigating their finances. Hisashi was more annoyed at how bad they were than anything, including capturing one himself without even using his Quirk.
  • Oblivious to Love: He's completely oblivious to the fact that the five women in his team are clearly smitten with him, even after they gave the hint they were not wanting any children.
  • Offscreen Moment of Awesome: He managed to evade several attempts of murder by MLA assassins since they found out he is the one on their tail. Hisashi even went as far as to take one of them down, without a Quirk, and as criticize their poorly made work.
  • Parents as People: He wants what's best for Izuku but is fully aware of his own shortcomings as a father, and decided it was best if he stayed away physically while supporting him and his mother financially.
  • Power Incontinence: If he loses control of his temper, he loses control of his Quirk and starts breathing fire everywhere.
  • Red Baron: He's known as "The Dragon of San Francisco", at least partially for managing to crack Nezu's finances.
  • Related in the Adaptation: He and Endeavor are third cousins, with Endeavor's mother "taking care" of Hisashi for a spell.
  • Spanner in the Works: He's set up as this for the Meta Liberation Army, as his connection with Izuku lead to his team investigating the MLA's Propaganda Machine's finances, potentially upending the MLA's plans in ways Izuku and the heroes would be unable to.
  • Suppressed Rage: His impeccable Quirk control and calm countenance are due to decades of anger management, training and coping mechanisms. But that anger is still there, leashed up as best he can, so if you see his mouth start to smoke, be careful.
  • Strong Family Resemblance: Endeavor notes the great resemblance between Hisashi and Izuku — the latter's Youthful Freckles come from the former.
  • Working Out Their Emotions: After he finishes talking with the Yaoyorozus, he asks if there's a Quirk-firing range available for him to let off the steam (or fire in his case) built up from his anger issues.

    David Shield

David Shield

Quirk: Bendy Fingers

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/david_shield.png

Melissa's father, a scientist who creates support items for heroes. He's also All Might's first sidekick and best friend, as well as the one who made his signature Golden Age costume.

  • Foil: To Sir Nighteye.
    • Both were All Might's sidekick at one point, though where Nighteye used his Quirk and training to fight, David used his brilliance to create gadgets for him and All Might to use.
    • Both were Toshinori's best friends. After All Might's crippling fight against All for One, Nighteye had a serious falling out with All Might, but David maintained his friendship with the hero.
    • Lastly, both wanted to restore the Symbol of Peace but went about it in opposite ways. David developed a device that could hopefully allow All Might to function at his prime again while Nighteye instead focused on training up a successor for All Might.
  • Locked Out of the Loop: David tried so hard to bring All Might back to his prime because he didn't know about the true nature of One for All. Once he learns about it and Toshinori's successor, he realizes how foolish his actions were.
  • Must Make Amends: He comes to regret his actions in setting up the heist of the Quirk amplifier after learning that Toshinori is settling into retirement from heroism and enjoying his new position as a teacher and surrogate father, and takes steps to stop it and deal with the fallout: turning in his assistant when he discovers that Sam was more interested in selling the device for profit, setting up security measures to stop Wolfram's group from infiltrating I-Island, and even calling in Star and Stripe to act as security.
  • Parents as People: Melissa is horrified to learn what David would have been willing to do if he hadn't found out about One for All.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: He only wanted to help his best friend deal with his injured body and fading power based on his own understanding of the situation, but after coming to his senses it's clear he regrets how far he was willing to take it, and Melissa and Toshinori are both horrified and angry that he would resort to villainy even for such a reason.

    Kota Izumi

Kota Izumi

Quirk: Water Gun

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/c_chara_main80_1.png

Mandalay's nephew and son of the Water Hose Duo, whom Izuku meets during the training camp.

  • Birds of a Feather: He and Eri bond over their traumatic childhoods.
  • Freudian Excuse: As Isamu points out, hearing from everybody around about how heroic his parents' death was, leads the poor boy to think are actually praising them for dying and leaving him alone.
  • Heroes' Frontier Step: As he has an epiphany on why heroes help protect other people, he crosses his to protect Eri from Muscular.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: His reaction upon his insensitive comment about how heroes shouldn't exist triggers Eri's Trauma Button.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: After Izuku returns from his rescue, Kota gives him a tight hug and thanks him for protecting him.
  • What You Are in the Dark: Being cornered by his parents' murderer during the Training Camp attack, he could have run for his life. Instead, he stood his ground to attempt to protect Eri from the psychotic villain and later distracts the latter to give Izuku the breather he needs to give Muscular a No-Holds-Barred Beatdown.

    Juri Usagiyama

Juri Usagiyama

Quirk: Rabbit

Mirko's mother, and a close friend of the Midoriya family.

  • Almighty Mom: She is the only person on the world capable of making Mirko shiver in fear.
  • Bait-and-Switch: She comments to be disappointed over Rumi being caught in the underground fighting rings when she was a teenager. Note, she wasn't disappointed over Rumi fighting, but because she was caught.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: Despite coming off as a very sweet lady, Juri has a very special way to handle people who badmouth her daughter.
Juri: Scathing rants, telling them how slutty their mothers were versus how inadequate their fathers were when I fucked them, baiting them into incriminating themselves, then usually finding their workplaces or schools and informing them of the behavior before I get banned and have to create a new account with a new IP address.
  • Canon Foreigner: Created specifically for this story.
  • The Dreaded: Izuku comments that she reminds him of Gran Torino.
  • Lady Swears-a-Lot: She can outswear Ochako, and that is quite an achievement.
  • The Napoleon: She is said to be as short as Inko before Eri rewounded her, but she is most certainly someone you don't want to mess with.

Hero Public Safety Commission

    In General
The organization in charge of regulating Pro Hero affairs.
  • Adaptational Villainy: The HPSC was already a corrupt and shady organization in canon, but the story goes a step further by detailing their crimes.
    • In addition to assassinating heroes and people whose goals went against their agenda (activists, authors, and politicians amongst them), the Commission interfered with the creation of laws that could help minority groups like mutants for the sole purpose of driving these people to villainy and make the public dependent of them. They also keep numerous files to blackmail people of interest to their plans.
    • There is also how the HPSC had nearly turn Japan into a Police State by arresting anyone who shows the slightest support towards groups like the Tea Spillers.
  • Create Your Own Villain: As mentioned above, they are responsible for policies that drive people to villainy. More villains mean more heroes and more heroes mean more people depending on the HPSC.
  • Not-So-Well-Intentioned Extremist: For all their talk about keeping society safe, it's clear that the only thing the HPSC cares about is keeping up the status quo, and that means that they're on top and everybody else is below them.

    The President

The President

The highest-ranking member of the HPSC.

  • Asshole Victim: No one will shed tears over the death of the leader of a pseudo-fascist corrupt organization.
  • Control Freak: She hates that All Might and his designated successor are not under her thumb. That they have not actively acted against her is irrelevant. In chapter 68, it's revealed that she ordered the revoking of Izuku's hero license, along with that of anyone who defended him, even ordering Mera to make up an excuse when he couldn't find any reason to do so.
  • Dies Differently in Adaptation: In canon, the President is seemingly crushed by debris during Re-Destro's attack during his meeting with the Commission. Here she is killed by Spinner during a suicide bombing.
  • Evil Is Petty:
    • She declares the Tea Spillers S-Rank villains, not because they present a serious threat, but because they keep undermining the HPSC's image with the public.
    • She later has Manual put under review for ignoring them to deal with a massive structure fire.
    • Later, she declares that anyone "guilty of aiding and abetting" the Tea Spillers, even just by watching one of their videos would be charged with a felony and any hero found doing so would have their license revoked immediately.
  • Screw the Rules, I Make Them!: Attempts to do this by ordering Mera to make up an excuse to revoke Izuku's hero license, all so she could force Izuku to do her bidding.

    Yokumiru Mera

Yokumiru Mera

The Head of Provisional Licensing.

  • Beleaguered Bureaucrat: His position at the HPSC has the unfortunate combination of having a lot of responsibilities with few perks and is very far down the line of succession for the HPSC presidency. Among other things, this results in a lack of sleep for him.
  • Mook–Face Turn: He starts helping out Nezu when the HPSC goes completely off the rails in their Control Freak tendencies. Most notably, when they declare showing any support of the Tea Spillers, including watching one of their videos, to be a felony and try to revoke Izuku's provisional hero license for literally no reason.
  • Obstructive Bureaucrat: Defied. In spite of de facto orders to seek any sort of leverage on Izuku and the Ennead, Mera does his job more or less professionally and honestly, believing that any attempt to force it wouldn't be worth the potential trouble. Even when he receives actual orders to do so, he instead informs Nezu of the plan.
  • Only Sane Man: Despite the Commission’s orders, he doesn’t to try to follow through on their scheme to try and exert the Commission’s control over Izuku by stripping away his provisional license (and the licenses of anyone who defends him), recognizing that any attempt to do so is going to run into the brick wall of the Yaoyorozu Family’s lawyers, followed by imminent reprisals from Nezu.
  • Super-Senses: Downplayed. His eyes are about twice as acute as an average person's.
  • You Are in Command Now: After the destruction of the HPSC headquarters, Mera ends up becoming the head of the organization by default. And since the Diet building was attacked and the Prime Minister was killed by Mustard, Mera is the de facto ruler of Japan.

    Taro Sato

Taro Sato

An HPSC officer that attempted to recruit Bakugo for the Commission.

  • Mr. Smith: Sato, is one of the most common first and last names in Japan, respectively, leading Bakugo to deduce that's not his real name. This is commented further by the author, claiming it would be the same as going under "John Smith"; people would assume it's a pseudonym.
  • The Nondescript: He is described as being so incredibly bland that he'd "get lost in the crowd" if there was a second person in the room.
  • Shame If Something Happened: Sato very casually states that the HPSC could make it very difficult, if not impossible, for Izuku or Bakugo to become heroes, depending on whether Bakugo takes their deal.

    Bolo

Bolo

Quirk: Unnamed Metal Edge Creation Quirk

A pro hero who attempted to arrest some school boys for watching a Tea Spillers' video.
  • Bigot with a Badge: He calls Mina "mutant" like it was a slur.
  • By-the-Book Cop: Deconstructed. He follows the law (or rather, the HPSC) to the letter, which means he won't hesitate to arrest some teenagers for simply watching one of the Tea Spillers videos.
  • Expy: Of RoboCop. Heck, his name Bolo, or Boro, is just Robo reversed.
  • Meaningful Name: Bolo is also a type of Filipino machete-like knife. His Quirk lets him create knives from any metal he touches.
  • Mythology Gag: His hero ranking, 717, lines up with the original film's release date in the U.S., July 17th, 1987, or 7/17 in American date conventions.
  • Know When to Fold 'Em: He decides to leave when Setsuna reveals she's been recording everything.
  • Spontaneous Weapon Creation: His Quirk allows him to create blades from metal edges.

Students From Other Schools

    Yo Shindo

Yo Shindo

Quirk: Vibrate

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/shake.png

One of students from Class 2-2 of Ketsubutsu Academy.

  • Demoted to Extra: Fairly relevant during the events of the License Exam during canon, here barely appears in one chapter, given how quickly 1-A passes the exam.
  • Stepford Smiler: Izuku and the Vestiges can't help by feel that his smile and friendly demeanor is very fake.
  • The Unfought: His plan to ambush Class 1-A for the U.A. Crush falls apart when the students curb-stomp every other school in their way in a matter of seconds, paying no attention to him or his classmates.

    Saiko Intelli

Saiko Intelli

Quirk: IQ

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/saiko_intelli_shading_tv_animation_design_sheet.jpg

A resentful second-year student from Seiai Academy.

  • Logical Weakness: Her Quirk doesn't help if she's missing important information or when she's making decisions based on emotion rather than logic.
  • The Resenter: She took the U.A. Recommendation Exam but failed the practical. She decides to have her revenge by targeting 1-A students during the License Exam.
  • Smug Snake: She believes that with her Super-Intelligence Quirk makes her unbeatable in the field. She and her classmates pay for her pride.
  • Underestimating Badassery: She completely underestimates Koda during the exam, which ends up with her being defeated by an army of insects before being finished off by Kinoko.

    Inasa Yoarashi

Inasa Yoarashi

Quirk: Whirlwind

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/inasa_yoarashi_one27s_justice_2_artwork.png

One of the top first-year students from Shiketsu.

  • The Ace: Much like in canon, Inasa is one the best hero students amongst the first years, and could have made his way to U.A. had he not declined.
  • Adaptational Sexuality: While his orientation is unknown in canon, here he is hinted to at least be attracted to guys, if his forming of a Bond with Monoma is any indication.
  • The Bus Came Back: Last seen during the provisional license exam in chapter 48, he returns to the story during the MLA Uprising in chapter 71.
  • Feels No Pain: Played for Laughs. He slams his forehead on the floor a number of times as a sign of his over-excitement and pays no mind to it.
  • For Want Of A Nail: Since Shoto wasn't taking the exam here, he can focus on helping people and passes the exam.
  • Heroic Self-Deprecation: He blames himself for letting his resentment for Endeavor blend in his first impression about Shoto and turning away his chance to study at U.A., specially after the truth about the Todoroki family is aired to the public. Tenya helps him get over it.
  • Hot-Blooded: Very much so. Setsuna even wonders if he is somehow related to Tetsutetsu and Kirishima on how over-the-top the guy is.
  • Man of Kryptonite: Since his Quirk allows him to control the wind, that makes him the perfect count against Mustard.
  • Straight Gay: Currently ambiguous on his sexuality, but the first indication he might be attracted to guys is when he forms a Level 1 Bond with Monoma in Chapter 71.
  • You Are Better Than You Think You Are: Denki points out that even though he scored last during the exam, he still passed and can perform hero work just like most of them. Inasa agrees and looks forward to meeting them in the field.
