Magical Girls

    General

  • Action Girl: All of the girls, although Sayuki stands out.
  • Blessed with Suck: The magical girls are granted a rainbow of unique powers by their sticks, but these powers are unfortunately fueled by their lifespan. Not that many mind, as their lives are horrible enough for them to be fine with dying young.
  • Cast from Lifespan: Every time a magical girl uses her stick, her lifespan is shortened. She can tell how much lifespan she has left by checking a "gauge" somewhere on her body; the more the symbol has been erased, the less time she has left.
    • It's also implied that the stronger a stick is, the more lifespan it will use up when it's wielded. For example, Yatsumura's time-stopping stick uses up a lot more lifespan than the average stick.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: Most of the magical girls either are victims of bullying, abuse, suffering from a terminal disease or have a beloved friend or family member killed off or murdered. In fact, suffering (or revenge) is often a requirement of becoming a magical girl and the admins encourage them to use their powers to invoke revenge against those who torment them, although there are a few exceptions below.
  • Exotic Eye Designs: Each magical girl is represented by a shape. Whenever she uses her powers, her pupils will change into that shape; in addition, the shape will also appear as a "gauge" on her arm, neck, or other body parts that let her know how much magic she can use until her lifespan finally runs out. Nijimin defies this by using contact lenses and by applying make-up on her arm.
    • Aya: Hearts
    • Yatsumura: Crescent moons
    • Shioi: Stars note
    • Nijimi/ Kaname: Spades
    • Mikari: The letter V
    • Sarina: The Greek letter phi
    • Kosame: The letter Q
    • Sayuki: The letter X
    • Kiyoharu: The letter S
    • Asahi: The letter H
    • Alice: The numeral Ⅳ
    • Mikado: The symbol - (Minus)
    • Yuu: Stars
    • Kayo: Suns
    • Sakaki: The Greek letter Σ (sigma)
    • Arareya: The symbol ∞ (infinity)
    • Shimozono: The symbol * (asterisk)
    • And apparently when a magical girl is reaching the end of her lifespan, their shape changes to an X.
  • Magical Girl: Well, obviously.
  • Magical Girl Warrior: Each girl is plenty capable of kicking some ass.
  • Magic Wand: All magical girls have "sticks" that they use to wield their powers. They can take the form of a gun, a camera, a phone, a hammer, a pair of panties, etc. Each stick is unique, both in powers and appearance. However, unlike regular Magical Girl weapons that can only get used by their owner, these Sticks are well and truly "weapons"; you don't even have to have made a contract with the Site to wield or even be female to properly use it.
  • Personality Powers: A magical girl's (initial) "stick" is a perfect reflection of the user's personality traits.
  • Power Dyes Your Hair: Along with getting Exotic Eye Designs, magical girls get the ends of their hair dyed a vivid color whenever they use their sticks. Nijimin defies this trope by dyeing her hair in order to disguise this side effect of her powers.
  • Psychic Nosebleed: Because using magical powers shortens one's lifespan, this almost always happens after a magical girl uses her powers. For a short time, their eyes and hair color changes too.
    • Interestingly, the location of the bleeding seems to vary depending on which stick is used: Aya's stick makes her bleed from the eyes, Yatsumura's stick causes her to bleed from the mouth, one of Shioi's sticks causes her nose to bleed, etc.
  • Revenge: Most of the motivations of the magical girls usually involve this. Aya is the only magical girl who doesn't even consider using her powers for this.

    Aya Asagiri
Voiced by: Yuuko Oono
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/dwwtfs3uqaalyr7.jpg

The protagonist of the story. Aya is a very gentle and kind girl, although she is unfortunately abused and treated like garbage both at school (by a gang of bullies) and at home (by her own brother). Just when Aya reaches the end of her rope, she is contacted by the mysterious Mahou Shoujo site who promise to fix her misfortune by granting her magical powers.

  • Accidental Murder: Causes the first two seen deaths in the manga, unknowingly transporting one of her bullies and a wannabe rapist in front of a nearby train.
  • Accidental Pervert: In Chapter 25, when Aya and Yatsumura proceed with their plan of forcibly removing Nijimi's Stick in the middle of class in order to prevent her from using it to manipulate Shioi into killing herself. While the audience obviously understands what's going on, to Aya's classmates it just looks like a random coordinated effort to steal Nijimi's panties. Aya holding the freshly-swiped Stick in the air like a new trophy just makes the scene even more hilarious.
  • Alliterative Name: Aya Asagiri.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: Once Aya gains her powers, she uses them in self-defense. And it helps quite a lot.
  • Break the Cutie: The Girl has been broken for, who knows how many years before she met Yatsumura.
  • Broken Bird: By the time the story starts, she's already dead inside due to bullying at school and at home. During her "The Reason You Suck" Speech to Sarina, she mentioned that she wanted to kill herself for the longest time because of all the crap she's been through.
  • Bullied into Depression: Aya is a depressed middle-schooler who suffers Domestic Abuse from her brother and Bully Brutality at school by a Girl Posse. She starts the series wanting to commit suicide but being too scared to. Her depression leads her to becoming a Magical Girl.
  • Character Development: Slowly grows to be more assertive in her pursuit of answers about the magical girls and their Sticks, even going to the extent of pulling a "The Reason You Suck" Speech towards Sarina.
  • The Dog Bites Back: Per Character Development, she becomes this.
  • Elective Mute: In the most recent chapters it's revealed that she has not spoken since Yatsumura's death, whose loss traumatized her. It's later revealed she lost her voice due to shock, though. Kiyoharu acts as her mouthpiece by reading her thoughts and speaking them aloud.
  • Exact Words: Her Stick grants her the power to transport objects. Turns out this means she can transport anything, even something immaterial like memories or lifespan.
  • Exhausted Eye Bags: These are a constant feature of hers. Her character profile even explains why she always has them.
"She's extremely delicate and gets stressed very easily. Because of this, there are many times she can't sleep at night. The dark bags under her eyes never seem to clear up, which worries her."
  • Extreme Doormat: Her life is total hell both at home and at school.
  • First Kiss: With Yatsumura.
  • Grew a Spine: The whole story has her slowly becoming more confident in her abilities and being able to stand up against people that are mean to her.
  • The Heart: Both figuratively and thematically. Her stick is even a gun with a heart-shaped barrel and she serves more or less the moral center of the magical girls.
  • Heart Is an Awesome Power: Her teleportation stick alone is quite the neat power to have, however it reaches Game-Breaker status once she discovers how it works on immaterial and conceptual things as well, such as life force, essentially allowing her to bypass the limitations of magical girls by extending her lifespan and others..
  • Legacy Character: She and Yatsumura are the daughters of Magical Girl Apocalypse's Kii Kogami.
  • Magic Wand: A Magic Gun with a heart-shaped barrel that allows Aya to teleport whoever gets shot. She can determine the location of where the person ends up by thinking of it beforehand.
  • Morality Pet: Serves as one for Yatsumura.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Unbeknownst to Sarina, she's absolutely distraught over accidentally killing two of her bullies.
  • New Powers as the Plot Demands: In the later chapters, it is revealed that Aya's Stick got quite an upgrade. Not only can it still teleport people and objects, but it can also now transfer memories and even lifespan between people, which is a real game-changer. The later power is why Aya and her friends are still alive despite almost using up their lifespans.
  • Nice Girl: No matter how bad she's beaten by her older brother and how much she is bullied, Aya always remains kind and gentle.
  • Only Friend: To Yatsumura, in the beginning.
  • Prone to Tears: Due to being constantly bullied and abused, Aya is almost always cowering and whimpering nervously.
  • Protectorate: Becomes this to Sarina.
  • Pseudo-Romantic Friendship: With Yatsumura. As time goes on, they become incredibly close and affectionate with one another. It progresses into a Relationship Upgrade when they kiss shortly before Yatsumura's death.
  • Semantic Superpower: Her stick's power to "transfer" started off as decent enough, but thanks to the extremely vague instructions and basically zero hints of its limitations, Aya eventually figures out that it's capable of "transfer" anything in existence. Metaphysical, physical, spiritual, psychological, theoretical, temporal, any concept imaginable that constructs the universe as everyone knows it. Once this realization sinks in, she practically become "God" in every sense of the word and its meaning.
  • Tears of Blood: After using her power, this is the reaction.
  • Teleport Gun: The main ability of her Magic Wand. Unlike most examples, she can teleport anything, including immaterial things like memories and lifespan, and can go through time.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: Gives one to Sarina during their fight, calling her out on her hypocritical nature and all of the bullying she had to endure under Sarina's thumb.
Aya: "The one playing the victim here is you! All this time, you kept doing cruel things to me! All this time, I had to bear the suffering! You killed my heart a long, long time ago! But I didn't have the courage to kill myself, so I endured the suffering each and every day! Have you considered my feelings!? Even once!? I'm alive, but I think about dying every day! Do you know how that feels!?"
  • Red Is Heroic: Unusually for a protagonist magical girl, Aya's motif color is red rather than the pink usually reserved for the leader. Her main Stick is pink, though.
  • Set Right What Once Went Wrong: After defeating the King and attempting to stop the destruction of Earth, Aya teleports herself back in time and is working to undo everything that led to Yatsumura, Nijimi, and the rest to be selected and victimized by the Mahou Shoujo Site. This includes stopping Louise Misumi from being raped and making her brother snap and saving Nijimi's dad before he was killed by those loan sharks.
  • Token Good Teammate: The only one of the magical girls so far that is against using their powers to torture and kill others.
  • Took a Level in Badass: The number of people she's lost and the traumatic events she's gone through have not destroyed her innate goodness or kindness. Rather, these horrible things have given her the resolve to do everything she can to save the world and her friends, making her one of the strongest characters in the series after originally being the weakest. She even tells her brother that she initially allowed him to keep abusing her because she knew what Kaname was going through thanks to their dad, and believed he just wasn't strong enough to handle their dad's abuse without an outlet.
  • Trauma Conga Line: Even before the series starts, her life is basically a living hell.
  • Surprise Incest: Chapter 104 reveals that Yatsumura is actually her long-separated twin sister.

    Tsuyuno Yatsumura
Voiced by: Himika Akaneya
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/dwxdamlvoaa9pap.jpg

A stoic and aloof classmate of Aya's. Soon after Aya got her Stick, Yatsumura revealed herself to be a fellow magical girl and teams up with Aya.

  • Anti-Hero: Of the Unscrupulous Hero type. She wants to find out the secret of Tempest and stop the murder of countless other magical girls but has no problem torturing others to get what she wants and encourages Aya to use her Stick to kill those who have wronged her.
  • Blood from the Mouth: How the use of her powers manifests.
  • Broken Bird: Like most of the magical girls. Due to witnessing the murder of her entire family, she has been left stoic and misanthropic.
  • Cold-Blooded Torture: Uses her power to abduct the man who killed her family, keeping him strung up in her apartment to suffer. Also threatens to stuff the Magical Hunter/ Shioi's body with cicadas if they didn't give her information regarding Tempest.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: Originally, Yatsumura was a bright and happy girl who lived with her loving parents and was even expecting a new sister or brother. However, one night, a criminal broke in and murdered her mom, dad, and unborn sibling; the only reason he spared Yatsumura was that he wanted to have "fun" with her when she got older. Before finding the Mahou Shoujo Site, Yatsumura's days were spent grieving her family and being paranoid that the assailant would make good on his promise and come back for her.
  • First Kiss: With Aya.
  • Happily Adopted: Go reveals she was adopted by the Yatsumura family, and we know she was very happy with them until everything happened.
  • Hypocrite: Perfectly fine with torturing the man who killed her parents for days on end and gets angry when he dies not on her terms but refuses to let Nijimi get revenge on the serial killer who killed her best friend because Rina might have intel on Tempest. Even after several girls reveal they know more about Tempest than Rina does, Yatsumura refuses to let Rina face much-needed karma.
  • Legacy Character: She and Aya are the daughters of Magical Girl Apocalypse's Kii Kogami.
  • Magic Wand: A smartphone with the ability to stop time.
  • Misanthrope Supreme: After witnessing her family's deaths and later given her magical Stick, she states that all horrible, useless people deserve to be wiped off the earth.
''Disgusting people. Snide people. People you hate. Annoying people. People who break the law. People who jeer at others. Violent people. Overly proud people. People who have no sense of morality. People who trouble others. People who hurt others for their own desires. People who threaten others. Once you become aware of others harming you, you should just eliminate them all.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Yatsumura takes Nijimi's Stick to keep her from killing Shioi, but later leaves it unguarded in a locker room while the team goes to the beach. Kaname then uses the opportunity to steal Nijimi's Stick.
  • Pseudo-Romantic Friendship: With Aya. As time goes on, they become incredibly close and affectionate with one another. It progresses into a Relationship Upgrade when they kiss shortly before Yatsumura's death.
  • Shut Up, Hannibal!: Several times, first to the Magical Hunter/ Shioi, later to Sarina.
  • The Stoic: Yatsumura always has the same bored/tired expression on her face. It's not without some reason, though; her life at present isn't the most pleasant one to have.
    • Not So Stoic: However, she does like to joke with Aya, and when the situation is dire, expect her to get serious.
  • Surprise Incest: Chapter 104 reveals that Asagiri is actually her long-separated twin sister.
  • Time Stands Still: Her Stick's ability allows her to stop time indefinitely. If she writes a name into it, she can allow someone else to travel through suspended time with her.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: At the beginning of the story, Yatsumura is a cold, aloof, and pessimistic girl thanks to her Dark and Troubled Past. She's also pretty reckless with her Stick usage because she doesn't care about dying. However, thanks to Aya's friendship and kindness, she softens up and begins to treasure her life more. She also smiles a lot more frequently.
  • Used to Be a Sweet Kid: She was a bright, happy kid until her father, mother and unborn sibling were killed by an intruder who threatened to kill Tsuyuno if she called the police on him.
  • Your Days Are Numbered: After using Sticks too often, she's slowly dying of body failure. By the time of the Beach Episode, she has at most a few days left to live.

    Sarina Shizukume
Voiced by: Haruka Yamazaki
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/dw3yaadvwaahigr.jpg

The leader of the clique that bullies Aya. After Aya unintentionally uses her Stick to kill one of Sarina's friends and her upperclassman in self-defense, Sarina violently confronts her. This confrontation caused Yatsumura to intervene and slit Sarina's throat. Although she is not killed, her neck is scarred and she is left with a burning hatred for both Aya and Yatsumura. This anger makes a prime candidate for the Mahou Shoujo Site...

  • Alliterative Name: Sarina Shizukume.
  • Alpha Bitch: Is the leader of the group that bullies Aya.
  • Asshole Victim: Happens to her three times. First Yatsumura used her power to make Sarina slit her own throat with a box cutter just before she could disfigure Aya, and until the second episode, there's no reason to assume Sarina survived that. Then, she chases after Yatsumara and Aya into Yatsumara's condo to kill them and excessively uses her stick to attack them, which directly slices into the entire building and causes it to collapse. Despite Aya having every reason to let Sarina die, as she had just finished telling Sarina off for bullying her every day so much she wanted to kill herself all the time, and asking Sarina if she ever thought/cared of how she made Aya feel, Sarina cruelly replies that just looking at Aya makes her want to puke, and that Aya would be better off dead, not to mention Sarina's entire mission thus far was to murder Aya, and it was Sarina's own fault that the apartment was collapsing on top of her to begin with, the next chapter reveals that Aya STILL saves Sarina's life by using her stick to transport Sarina to another location directly before the building collapsed on top of her. Then for a third time, after she was made a magical girl and caused even more trouble, Sarina got on the bad side of the Site Admin and was (seemingly) killed.
  • Character Development: While she is still far from a pleasant person, she has mellowed out considerably following her brush with death at Nana's hands. She's willing to put aside her grievances for the greater goal of taking down the Site Admins. She also seems to not hate Aya anymore, or at least not as much as she used to (although she still despises Yatsumura for scarring her neck).
  • Enemy Mine: Make no mistake, she's still a remorseless bitch but is willing to cooperate with the other Magical Girls if it means getting back on the admins.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: In the anime, she cusses out Yatsumura for the gruesome torture of the criminal of who she swore revenge. She claims it's even worse than what she ever did to Aya.
    • She also isn't stupid enough to not realize the ulterior motives of the Site Admins.
  • For the Evulz: Only started bullying Aya because she was bored and knew Aya was too weak-willed to tell on her.
  • Good Scars, Evil Scars: Has a prominent scar on her throat after Yatsumura uses her powers to get Sarina to slit her own throat instead of Aya's.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Sarina shows the beginnings of one as of Chapter 29 after Aya saves her out of the collapsing condo. Chapter 43 further proves her change after Sarina finds and returns Aya her stick.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: After getting an ax run through her body, she uses up the last of her life span to activate Mikado's Stick to hold off Juuroku and Ni in order for Aya to turn them back into humans. Sarina specifically does this as a gift to Aya, her final act to atone for everything she did to Aya by allowing her to reunite with Yatsumura.
  • Hypocrite:
    • Chews out Aya for killing her friends and not caring about her feelings. This is the same girl who mercilessly bullied Aya out of boredom and attempting to have her raped by a classmate. And she has the audacity to accuse Aya of Playing the Victim Card. When called out on this, her reply is that she doesn't care about Aya and that she should kill herself.
    • Claims Yatsumura's torture of the man who murdered her family is far worse than anything Sarina did to Aya, ignoring how she bullied Aya so badly the girl spent most of her days wanting to commit suicide, killed an innocent stray cat Aya cared for, paid someone to rape Aya, tried to slice open Aya's throat for the deaths of her two friends (which happened accidentally and in self-defense), and is clearly planning to brutally slaughter her and Yatsurmura. And even then, Yatsumura was still more justified when remembering the man threatened to come back and rape and kill her if she ever told anyone what he did when it was clear he'd do it anyway if he found her again.
  • Killer Yoyo: Her Magic Stick is this. It has an Absurdly Sharp Blade, including an invisible one within a large circle.
  • Lack of Empathy: After Aya calls her out on being so cruel to her and asking if she even wondered how she felt, Sarina's response is that she doesn't give a shit how she feels, that just looking at her makes her sick, and she thinks Aya would be better off dead.
  • Magic Wand: A yoyo whose string is actually incredibly sharp metal. It can seemingly cut through anything.
  • Never Found the Body: Due to using up her lifespan before the death getting murdered by the Site Admins settles in, she vanishes into smoke, rather than leaving a definite corpse behind. With how the rules of the Site works, the odds of her death being permanent is dubious at best.
  • Never My Fault: Takes no responsibility for the deaths of her friends, even though the only reason they died was that Sarina set one of them up to rape Aya, who acted in self-defense. Yatsumura wastes no time in calling out Sarina's inability to own up to her awful behavior and tells her everything which happened to her and her friends happened because of her.
  • Revenge Myopia: Sarina wants to take revenge on Aya for killing her friends, but cares nothing for the fact that she set one of them up to rape Aya and that Aya only acted in self-defense and didn't even intend to kill them.
  • She Knows Too Much: She cottons on fairly quickly about the hole in logic concerning the Tempest and a possible survivor. As soon as she points this flaw out, Nana shoots her and leaves her for dead.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: As a result of all the times Aya has saved her, despite everything Sarina's done to her and how much she hates Aya for killing her friends, Sarina's gradually begun to care about Aya. When she learns Aya has almost totally depleted her life span for the sake of saving everyone, Sarina is the first to offer up her own life span to replenish Aya's.
  • Villainous Friendship: For all of her cruelty, she was genuinely friends with Erika and Kawano, and becomes depressed after Erika's death.
  • You Killed My Friends: Even if it was an accident, Sarina is absolutely livid at Aya for leading her friends to their deaths and wants to exact revenge.

    Nijimi Anazawa
Voiced by: Yuu Serizawa
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/dw3j0kxvqaa8fcs.jpg

A wildly popular Idol Singer who belongs to the group "Pet Play." Much to Aya and Yatsumura's surprise, she turns out to be a magical girl as well. However, despite her bubbly and cute demeanor, she has a secret dark side that makes her unpredictable.

  • Beware the Silly Ones: She's an Idol Singer of the hit band Dog's Play. She's very goofy and her character doesn't seem to fit with the dark tone of the manga, which annoys Yatsumura. It's then revealed that her power is Mind Control, she has several of her fans working for her as servants, and that she plans to kill Shioi for murdering her best friend, who was also chosen by the Mahou Shoujo Site.
  • Compelling Voice: Nijimi is able to make anyone do her bidding with just her voice, as long as she's wearing her Stick.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: Her family fell on hard times and were indebted to a gang for loans. Her father tried to remedy this, but it ended in failure and he killed himself not long afterward. Nijimi ended up obtaining her power from the incident and almost killed the loan sharks, but she was stopped by Mikado. It's later revealed her dad didn't kill himself. The loan sharks murdered him and made it look like a suicide so they could get their hands on Nijimi's mother. Aya prevents this when she travels back in time by teleporting a group of policemen into the Aizawa apartment just as Mr. Aizawa is almost killed.
  • Dying Moment of Awesome: Right before she dies, she smashes a bottle and uses it to slit Kaname's throat.
  • Girlish Pigtails: She has a high pair done up with little red beads, owing to her bubbly demeanour.
  • Go Out with a Smile: She breaks out of Kaname's mind control, and manages to slice him in the throat before falling down dead. As soon as she's able to do so, she smiles as she dies.
  • Hair-Trigger Temper: Underneath her cutesy exterior, she holds back unbridled rage over her friend's death, and the mere mention of the person who did it to her will set her off. As soon as she got a picture of where she was, she set off to kill her.
  • The Nicknamer: Nijimi calls Aya "Ayappi" and Yatsumura "Tsuyuyu".
  • Idol Singer: A rather popular one belonging to the girl group "Dog's Play". Keisuke, Kiyoharu and Sakura are among her fanbase.
  • In-Universe Nickname: Nijimin.
  • Magic Wand: A pair of panties that give her Compelling Voice powers. As long as she's wearing her stick, the people she gives commands to have no choice but to obey her.
  • Revenge: She wants justice on the Magical Girl Hunter, due to her killing her best friend Ringo and taking her Stick.
  • Smitten Teenage Girl: Falls head over heels for Kaname as soon as she meets him, and lets her guard down completely whenever she's around him. This will later bite her in the ass once Kaname steals her wand.
  • Stepford Smiler: Has a bubbly and cute, innocent personality, but inside, she's just as disturbing like the other magical girls.

    The Magical Hunter/Rina Shioi
Voiced by: Aina Suzuki
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/dwyob2_v4aauhrc.jpg

Rina is known as the "Magical Hunter" because she is a Serial Killer of magical girls. She does this so she can steal their Sticks for an unknown purpose. She is introduced when she decides to make Aya her next target.

  • A-Cup Angst: Another reason why she disliked her original appearance was her flat chest was flat and she wanted a big-breasted one.
  • An Arm and a Leg: She loses one of her legs while protecting her mother from a Site Admin. Thankfully she avoids bleeding to death.
  • The Atoner: In the anime, during Nijimi's funeral she regretfully apologizes for killing her best friend and says at least the two are together again.
  • But for Me, It Was Tuesday: When told about Nijimi's hatred towards her, she shrugs it off and admits she's killed a lot of people.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: She was severely bullied and was moments away from killing herself before she was contacted by the Mahou Shoujo Site.
  • Did Not Think This Through: Because of her constant changing of appearance, she can't go home, so she sleeps in the park.
  • Enemy Mine: Reluctantly teams up with Aya and Tsuyuno in order to take down Tempest.
  • Even Bad Men Love Their Mamas: She felt guilty about not being to able to go back home to her mom since she couldn't change back to her old appearance. Rina does return to save her mom from the Site Admins, but their reunion is cruelly cut short when Rina's mother is transformed during the Tempest.
  • Everyone Has Standards: She's just as disgusted by Kaname as the others, which does not seem totally hypocritical given Kaname's massive god complex while Shioi was motivated by her own self-preservation, and didn't sink anywhere near to the levels of cruelty for the sake of cruelty Kaname has.
  • The Friend Nobody Likes: While "friend" is a stretch, none of the other Magical Girls like being around her and only associate with her on the grounds it would be better to have her on their side than have to deal with her and the Admins.
  • Glasses Are Sexy: The body she copies from Sarina's sister is this coupled with an hourglass figure. Rina deliberately invokes this, saying that she wanted to get a cute, big breasted glasses girl's body that was attractive to men.
  • I Just Want to Be Beautiful: She disliked her original appearance and saw it as “ugly”, and longed for an attractive appearance that would attract men.
  • I Never Said It Was Poison: Yatsumura quickly picks up that she was the Magical Girl Hunter because only Yatsumura and Rina had called the Hunter that when the murders first started to happen, and she knew exactly what Yatsumura was talking about when she mentioned the name.
  • Karma Houdini: Besides Nijimi, nobody is concerned that she's a serial killer and will most likely not face justice for what she did. Although Yatsumura has a justifiably low opinion of her and only associates with Shioi out of necessity.
  • Magic Wand: Her original stick is a hammer that can destroy anything it hits.
  • Serial Killer: Of magical girls.
  • Too Dumb to Live: Uses multiple Sticks that she stole from other magical girls, despite knowing that they drain your lifespan. This nearly leads to her death.
  • Villainous RRoD: After using multiple Sticks that she stole from other magical girls, this drained most of her lifespan, she fell in a comatose state for a while.

    Kosame Amagai
Voiced by: Yumi Hara
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/db76fsivqaahdls.jpg

A soft-spoken and mysterious magical girl who enlists the help of Aya and her allies in order to fight against the Site Admins.

  • Cuteness Proximity: She evokes this in Sayuki's family's Yakuza members, who dote on her.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: She was diagnosed with terminal cancer and given six months at most to live. She's fine with being a magical girl and using up her lifespan because she didn't have much left to begin with.
  • Eyepatch of Power: Wears a medical eyepatch on her left eye.
  • Girls Love Stuffed Animals: She carries around a puppy plushie.
  • The Heart: Despite her unusual personality, she seems to be very well-liked by the rest of her group and they cooperate for her benefit.
  • The Leader: She is the one who organizes the other magical girls to fight against the Site Admins.
  • Magic Wand: A utility knife that allows the user to heal wounds and ailments with their own blood. To use it, Kosame needs to cut herself.
  • Mood-Swinger: Takes a bunch of pills to keep her sanity, otherwise she loses it very badly.
  • Not So Stoic: If it wasn't for her medicines, she wouldn't be able to keep herself calm.
  • Only Friend: It's implied before they met the other magical girls, Kosame and Kiyoharu were the only friends each other had.
  • Self-Harm–Induced Superpower: Kosame Amagai received a magic wand from Magical Girl Site that takes the form of a utility knife. By cutting herself with it, she can use her blood to heal others' wounds.

    Kiyoharu Suirenji
Voiced by: Eriko Matsui
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/dcpue_2u8aaxvrl.jpg

A good friend of Kosame's. Kiyoharu is a Transgender girl who is bullied for being such, which caused her to be contacted by the Mahou Shoujo Site.

  • Absurd Phobia: She's afraid of ghosts and doesn't like horror movies, which is absurd when you consider what she goes up against on a regular basis.
  • Beware the Nice Ones:
    • Kiyoharu doesn't use her abilities to get back at the people who bully her for being a trans girl because she plans to wait until they've grown up and made happy lives for themselves... then she'll destroy them.
    • Following Nijimi's death, the effects have worn down Kiyoharu so bad she doesn't have the patience to shrug off her usual bullies and shoves one of them face first through a window.
  • Early-Installment Weirdness: In her first appearance, she was shown to have a psychotic side, expressing her desire to ruin her bullies' lives. This never gets mentioned again, and Kiyoharu is shown to be one of the more level-headed Magical Girls.
  • Fangirl: Is a big fan of Nijimi's.
  • Foreshadowing: Kiyoharu using Sticks at all is this to the fact that those born biologically male aren't exempt from using them as well, something that Kaname eventually realizes and utilizes.
  • Magic Wand: A ring that grants her Telepathy powers, allowing her to obtain information from and contact anyone she's touched. She can even contact many people simultaneously.
  • Nice Girl: As long as you don't bully her, she's very easy to get along with.
  • No Good Deed Goes Unpunished: She tried to intervene and deal with Kaname so Aya wouldn't have to after recognizing how much Aya's already dealt with the bastard. Kiyoharu almost died as a result.
  • Only Friend: She was this for Kosame before they met the other magical girls and vice versa.
  • Signature Headgear: She often wears a pink hairband with a ribbon attached to it.
  • Supernaturally-Validated Trans Person: Able to utilize a Stick despite being assigned male at birth. Her negative emotional energy is not harmful for The King, either.
  • Telepathy: Her Stick makes her able to obtain information and contact anyone she's touched, no matter how far the distance is.
  • Trans Tribulations: She was assigned male at birth, but she identifies as female and is bullied by boys and girls alike for being such.

    Mikari Izumigami
Voiced by: Kaede Hondo
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/dcffcdtvmaanrba.jpg

An obscenely rich girl who lives on her own private island with her butler, Yamai. She is an ally of Kosame's and has a spoiled, thoughtless personality.

  • Adaptational Heroism: The anime seemed to cut out the whole sodomy angle between her and her butler, with her introductory scene featuring her using him as a footstool into her helicopter instead (though he's still in his underwear).
  • Bad Boss: Played for Laughs with her poor butler.
  • Custom Uniform: Her uniform has long bell sleeves and platform penny loafers.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: She had loving, kind parents, but they were murdered by a lunatic in a random spree killing. Her butler is the only person she has left.
  • Double Standard Rape: Female on Male: Her introductory scene includes sodomizing her elderly butler with her broomstick before tossing him into the ocean. It's implied she does this on a regular basis and it's all Played for Laughs. Though, this might be subverted, as the look on her butler's face implies that he's enjoying it and (possibly) consenting to it.
  • Flying Broomstick: What her magic stick is. It can go very fast.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold:
    • As much as she abuses her butler Yamai, she truly does love him and considers him the only family she has left.
    • She originally made fun of Kiyoharu over the idea of her being a magical girl despite having a biologically male body, but is horrified when Kaname tries to kill Kiyoharu using Asahi and refers to Kiyoharu using the proper pronouns.
  • Killed Off for Real: She's the only one besides Yatsumura confirmed to be dead after the Time Skip following Chapter 55.
  • Magic Wand: A Flying Broomstick that's incredibly fast.
  • Ojou Ringlets: To go with the whole Rich Bitch image, her hair is curled in this style.
  • Rich Bitch: She lives on an island estate and flies to school in a helicopter every day.
  • Unusual Eyebrows: Hers are shaped like little hearts.
  • Used to Be a Sweet Kid: It's implied she didn't start treating Yamai like crap until after the day her parents and so many others were butchered in front of her.

    Sayuki Ringa
Voiced by: Mao Ichimichi
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/db_axdou0aa882.jpg

The only daughter of the leader of a Yakuza clan, Sayuki is well-trained in martial arts and is skilled at swordplay. She has a stoic and reserved personality and is an ally of Kosame's.

  • Absurdly Sharp Blade: Her stick is a katana that can cut through basically anything.
  • An Arm and a Leg: Loses her left hand while fighting Go in the manga.
  • Aloof Dark-Haired Girl: She is seen with an aloof disposition and has long black hair.
  • Battle Strip: In true yakuza fashion, she’ll often take off her coat before getting into a fight.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: For an entire year, she was held captive and kept chained to a bed by members of an enemy Yakuza gang; it's heavily implied that they raped and abused her. Eventually, she was contacted by the Mahou Shoujo Site and got her sword, which she used to kill her tormentors. Her mother took the fall for her and ended up getting sent to prison.
  • Mafia Princess: She is the daughter of a Yakuza boss and is set to be the heiress of the clan.
  • Magic Wand: A katana that can slice through anything. It also seems to grant her Super-Speed when she uses it.
  • Mutual Kill: She manages to kill Go in the manga before dying from her injuries.
  • Only Sane Man: Of the three girls brought with Kosame, she's the only one who doesn't initially come across as mentally unbalanced or just plain fucked up.
  • Rape as Backstory: At one point she was kidnapped and held captive by two guys who had her chained to a bed and were implied to have tortured and molested her. And then the Mahou Shoujo Site contacted and she got her sword.
  • Sarashi: Wears one beneath her clothes.
  • The Stoic: Her facial expression is almost always a blank one.
  • When She Smiles: While visiting her mother in prison. It's genuinely heartwarming.

    Asahi Takiguchi
Voiced by: Lynn
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/dckeamgu8aaxnw1.jpg

Another one of Kosame's allies. Unlike the rest of the girls, who are in middle school, she is a high schooler. Asahi has a laid-back personality and seems to be one of the most stable magical girls.

  • Cool Big Sis: She is fiercely protective of her younger siblings. Her first act after getting her Stick was to murder her abusive drunk of a father when she came home to find her siblings cowering in fear after he beat their mother with an ashtray.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: Two guys at the beach hit on her, she dumps them in the ocean. This is pretty much the tamest use of this trope in the series.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: In the anime, she is introduced alongside Kosame's group and is treated as one of them. However, in the manga, she was actually the sole survivor of the magical girl assassination attacks (other than the main characters, that is) and only becomes part of the main group afterward.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: She completely exhausts her life span and pushes her body to the limit getting everyone away from the Admins before they can freeze time and slaughter everyone.
  • Magic Wand: A necklace that enhances her physical abilities, granting her Super-Speed and Super-Strength.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: When Kaname used her to almost kill Kiyoharu.
  • Mysterious Past: She's yet to receive any particular focus so her backstory remains the least known of the other magical girls who are still alive. Chapter 121 reveals she had a violent drunk for a father, and she killed him with her Stick when she discovered he'd brutally beaten her mother with a glass ashtray.
  • No-Holds-Barred Beatdown: She beat the shit out of her dad and murdered him after both she, her mom, and her younger siblings endured years of his abuse. What pushed Asahi over the edge is when she came home to find her mom battered within an inch of her life.
  • Only Sane Woman: By far the most genuine article of all the magical girls seen. Asahi's competent with her stick and doesn't seem to have any personality defects or mental instability like the other girls do.
  • Seen It All: She's barely fazed when the Site Admin tries to kill her, and her default expression is one of bored disinterest. In the anime when she's introduced alongside Kosame's group, as the rest of them show off their various instabilities Asahi is checking her phone and asks them to hurry it up which indicates she's pretty used to this by now.
  • Super-Speed: Her necklace stick grants her this ability. It's what allows her to survive the assassination attempt on the magical girls by the Site Admins.

    Alice Maganuma

  • Adapted Out: She doesn't appear in the anime at all, save for a cameo in a picture with Misumi. However, that ends up being a huge spoiler for Anime Only viewers who want to get into the manga later.
  • Dissonant Serenity: She cheerfully explains in an offhand manner how her mom committed suicide moments after giving birth to her and a father was a complete piece of shit who abandoned her. How much of this is true is debatable.
  • Everyone Has Standards: Back when Alice and her brother were investigating the Mahou Shoujo Site, they conducted experiments to see what happened when a person ran out of lifespan. However, both of them refused to use innocent young girls and opted to work on condemned criminals (murderers, rapists, etc.) They only experimented on Anjou because she tried to kill them first.
  • Everyone Is Related: Misumi is her older brother.
  • Evil All Along: Her brother is Misumi and the two of them have been working with the Site Admins for a while. This has been gradually subverted as it appears Alice is, at best, apathetic to those who aren't her brother and sister.
  • The Friend Nobody Likes: None of the other Magical girls who know her want anything to do with her.
  • Magic Wand: It's a smartphone like Yatsumura's stick, although hers instead has the ability to rewind time. However, it can only rewind a maximum of one minute.
  • The Mole: For Misumi and the Site Admins.
  • Morality Pet: Misumi is a depraved rapist and unrepentant serial killer of magical girls, but he clearly loves and is protective of Alice. It's extremely ironic that these two have a healthier sibling relationship than Aya and Kaname do.
  • Non-Standard Character Design: Her sharklike teeth and spiral-patterned eyes make her look really odd, especially in comparison to the other girls.
  • Red Herring: She was definitely the most obvious candidate for the identity of "A," but it was later revealed to be Anjo.
  • Scary Teeth: Her teeth are sharp, like those of a shark.
  • Terrible Artist: Her drawings are, as Shioi puts it, utter shit. And she gets really angry when pointed out.
  • Time Master: Her wand manifests as a phone too, but she can rewind time up to one minute and even take pictures of what she sees, gaining proof of what could've happened, like Nana killing Sarina or blowing up the building the other Magical Girls were at the time.
  • Unusually Uninteresting Sight: She has fangs. Not Cute Little Fangs either, but rows of shark teeth. This is never explained, none of the other magical girls have physical mutations, and no one ever notices or comments on it.

    Kayo Komura

  • Alliterative Name: Kayo Komura.
  • Guile Heroine: She's much craftier than she lets on.
  • Magic Wand: A compact that allows her to copy of other magical girls' powers, although she must physically touch them first. The copy can also only be used once.
  • Revenge Before Reason: Defied on her part, as she has no desire to seek revenge on her tormentors after seeing what her father's use of this trope did to him and their family.
  • She Who Fights Monsters: Discussed through her. Kayo's reason for not fighting back or taking revenge on Melissa and the other bullies is that she fears becoming the same kind of person as her father, pointing out how his murder of the three punks who killed her sister destroyed their family. But she is willing to defend herself in life or death situations, and she will fight back to protect her friend.
  • Sins of Our Fathers: She's mercilessly bullied because of her father's killings, and the bullies say that murder is inborn as justification.
  • Trauma Conga Line: First, her little sister was brutally murdered by three teenage delinquents, none of whom were ever brought to justice. Then, her father decided to take matters into his own hands and killed all three boys himself, landing him in prison. Because of her dad's actions, Kayo is relentlessly bullied for being the daughter of a murderer. To make matters even worse, her mother's health took a steep decline until she eventually had to be hospitalized. It's no wonder someone as unfortunate as Kayo was chosen to be a magical girl.

    Sakura Sakaki

  • Alliterative Name: Sakura Sakaki
  • The Comically Serious: She's about as stoic as Yatsumura, which contrasts heavily when she's put into some hilarious situations or is doing something silly like stuffing her face on cake or loudly cheering for Nijimi.
  • Cutting the Knot: With her lack of patience for prolonged plans, she simply jump to the most direct and effective method of getting her objective down in an instant.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: She's seen in the crowd at Nijimi's concert in episode 3 of the anime.
  • Faking the Dead: She fakes her suicide alongside Kayo once they realize Misumi and the Site Admins will go after their families and loved ones since the two know something's going on. The two return a year later and undo the main cast's deaths by the Site Admins.
  • He Knows Too Much: Once she and Kayo find out the Site Admins are working with Misumi after Nana kills Touko, Sakaki realizes this puts them and everyone they care about in danger and thus they need to disappear.
  • Hidden Depths: She's actually a massive fan of Dog Play, Nijimi's idol group. She attends all of their concerts and events, to the point where Naoto and the idols themselves call her by name and happily talk with her when they see her.
  • Magic Wand: A game controller that creates shockwaves.
  • Mysterious Past: Sakaki went through something just as bad as the other magical girls, but the circumstances haven't been revealed. Touko mentions she found out by doing some digging, but Kayo refused to hear it saying she'll wait for Sakaki to divulge that information herself when she feels like it. It's believed her father was killed in a mysterious accident which may have been the result of another magical girl.
  • Non-Standard Character Design: With her short-stature and Black Bead Eyes, she stands out from the other characters in the story.
  • Not So Above It All: She's normally extremely stoic and uninterested in most things that go on around her. However, she's secretly a massive fan of the idol group Dog Play and religiously attends their events.
  • Older Than They Look: She's a high schooler, but is extremely short and looks more like an elementary school student.
  • The Stoic: Nothing ever seems to faze her.

    Touko Arareya

  • Boom, Headshot!: Shot dead by Nana because of her knowledge of "A"
  • Defeat Means Friendship: She's introduced as an antagonistic magical girl who tried to kill Kayo to steal her Stick. After her defeat, however, she becomes an ally of Kayo and Sakaki and helps them unravel the mystery of "A."
  • Foil: To Shioi. Both of them tried to hunt down magical girls and collect their Sticks, but while Shioi did it because she was told it was the only way to survive the Tempest and was motivated by her own well being, Touko was trying to find a Stick so she could heal her brother's horrific wounds and was motivated by the well being of another.
  • Freudian Excuse: The reason why she was attacking magical girls and stealing their Sticks is that she has a little brother who was severely injured in a fire started by an arsonist (the same fire killed their parents). Touko hopes to find a Stick with healing powers to save her brother.
  • Magic Wand: A conductor's baton that creates explosions.
  • Non-Standard Character Design: She has a forked tongue like a snake.
  • We Hardly Knew Ye: After getting to know her for a few chapters, she's killed by Nana
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: The only reason she tried to kill other magical girls was so she could find a stick to heal her little brother's severe burns.

    Tsurara Takahashi

One of the protagonists of Mahou Shoujo Site Sept, a young tennis player who was repeatedly raped and abused by her coach. She's given her Stick, a laser gun shaped like a drill, after discovering she's pregnant and accidentally kills the coach in self-defense. It just gets worse for her from there.

  • Accidental Murder: She had no idea what her Stick would do to Kuraki, although for all accounts the bastard had it coming.
  • Alliterative Name: Tsurara Takahashi
  • Baby Trap: She was going to pull this on Akai, after letting him have sex with her without a condom so she could convince him the baby she was already pregnant with belonged to him and not Kuraki.
  • Broken Bird: So broken she decides to forget about her abortion and starts trying to convince herself the baby she's carrying is Akai's, not Kuraki's. Then, her Trauma Conga Line breaks her even further and she commits suicide.
  • Decoy Protagonist: While she looks like she's one of the main characters, it quickly becomes clear Hyouka is the actual protagonist when Tsurara kills herself in chapter seven.
  • Driven to Suicide: She jumps off the school roof after her rape photos are exposed, Akai dumps her, and everyone starts screaming she should kill herself.
  • Never My Fault: After accidentally killing Kuraki with her Stick, she starts pleading with Hyouka she didn't do anything and it wasn't her fault.
  • Teen Pregnancy: Kuraki raped and impregnated her. While Hyouka planned to help get the money needed for an abortion, Tsurara sinks further into despair and decides to trick her boyfriend into believing he's the father.
  • Trauma Conga Line: Is raped and molested on a regular basis by her tennis coach who then blackmails her with nude photos, and then she becomes pregnant by him. Then she accidentally kills him in self-defense with her new Stick. Then she tries to convince herself her baby belongs to her new boyfriend, only for someone to display all the nude photos around the school which gets her labeled a slut. Her boyfriend dumps her like yesterday's garbage, and when she tries to convince him he's the father of her baby he starts screaming alongside their classmates she should die, all leading up to her jumping off the school roof and splattering her head on the pavement. She may, in fact, be the most unfortunate magical girl of them all.
  • Ungrateful Bastard: She forgets all about what Hyouka's been doing for her in an effort to raise money for an abortion by deciding to trick Akai into thinking he's the father of her baby so they can be happy together. Hyouka even turns her back on Tsurara for a while due to this trope. At the very least, before she kills herself Tsurara apologized for being ungrateful.

    Hyouka Nagatsuki

One of the protagonists of Mahou Shoujo Site Sept, a young tennis player who discovers her best friend Tsurara was raped and impregnated by their coach. After seeing Tsurara murder the coach in self-defense, Hyouka swears to do everything she can to support her. She is the human form of Nana.

  • Anti-Villain: She uses Tsurara's Stick to dispose of Kuraki's corpse, and to rob people in order to raise the money for Tsurara's abortion. She even permanently maimed someone by destroying their right arm when he fought back. She's incredibly upset when she learns Tsurara's dating Akai and realizes she's going to keep the baby, even after all Hyouka's done for her.
  • Because You Were Nice to Me: She's devoted to Tsurara because Tsurara visited her every day when Hyouka was depressed over her father's death.
  • Fallen Heroine: She eventually runs out her life force and becomes the Site Admin Nana, who is the Big Bad of the main series.
  • Foregone Conclusion: Once Nana's human identity was revealed in the main series, it also revealed that Hyouka will obviously turn into Nana at some point in Sept no matter what happens to her.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: She's legitimately upset by what she did to that one man she attempted to rob.
  • Violently Protective Girlfriend: She'll do anything to protect Tsurara, even after declaring she's finished with her when Tsurara essentially turns her back on Hyouka.

    Isoko Anjou

A mysterious magical girl who is a classmate of Tsurara and Hyouka in Mahou Shoujo Site Sept. She seems to know a lot about the Mahou Shoujo Site and has been watching the drama between Tsurara and Hyouka from the background.

  • Anti-Hero: Her big plan involves getting revenge on the Mahou Shoujo Site for ruining her life, and she convinces Hyouka to voluntarily become a Site Admin so they can bring the system down from the inside.
  • Cheshire Cat Grin: Her smile always crooks up at one corner of her mouth.
  • Childhood Marriage Promise: Had this with her friend Haruto, until something happened to him. In the finale's "true timeline" they're reunited and Anjou agress to marry him when they grow up.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: She exposes Reiko Maguchi as the person who hung up the nude photos of Tsurara and even she seems at least slightly disgusted by the woman. Anjou also loathes the Mahou Shoujo Site and wants to destroy it.
  • Faking the Dead: It was believed Misumi had somehow killed her and gotten a hold of all the Sticks she owned in the main series until it was recently revealed she's still alive and now allied with Misumi and Alice.
  • Foregone Conclusion: She will eventually get her hands on numerous Sticks and take on the identity of "A" before Misumi seemingly catches her and helps her fake her death.
  • For the Evulz: She handed out a bunch of Sticks to random people like she was a Site Admin and let them do whatever they wanted, making her responsible for the destruction of Kayo Komura's family since the boys who killed Kayo's sister got a Stick from Anjou. It later turns out she has a deliberate reason for this, as part of an experiment to bring the site down.
  • Good All Along: She's still not a nice person, but she believes the Mahou Shoujo Site must be destroyed. Everything she's been doing is part of her efforts to bring the site and the Admins down forever.
  • Jerkass: She is not a nice person, and enjoys getting a laugh out of the misery and chaos that occurs around her.
  • Lack of Empathy: She doesn't particularly give a shit about any of the suffering Tsurara and Hyouka have endured. Subverted at the end of Sept where she tries to talk Hyouka out of dying and convinces her she can't let the Mahou Shoujo Site get away with destroying her life and Tsurara's life.
  • Mysterious Past: She wants revenge on the Mahou Shoujo Site for something awful that happened to her, which is why she created the "A" persona. It's later implied it had something to do with losing her boyfriend Haruto.
  • The Reveal:
    • All those Sticks Misumi had in his torture room? He got them from her after he supposedly killed her. It later turns out Misumi and Alice spared her when she revealed she helped create a Site Admin and has offered to help them find their other sister.
    • She's the reason Hyouka becomes Nana, suggesting she allow herself to become Nana as an experiment to see if Magical Girls can retain their consciousness after becoming Site Admins.
  • Troll: She likes to get a reaction out of people by saying extreme, contradictory things in intense situations, like admitting she's the mysterious girl going around robbing people or telling everyone not to laugh at Tsurara when she gets humiliated.

    Louise

A Magical Girl who went around killing criminals who escaped punishment from the law.

  • Little Miss Badass: She appears quite young to be a Magical Girl, yet still went around gaining vengeance on criminals and murderers who avoided punishment from the law.
  • Morality Pet: To Misumi and Alice.
  • Musical Assassin: Her Stick was a woodwind instrument, but what power it has is unknown.
  • Posthumous Character: She's likely to be one of the Site Admins, meaning she's for all intents and purposes dead.
  • Rape as Backstory: She was approached by a grown man who asked her out, and when Louise turned him down flat saying he was creepy (and tried to use her police whistle to get help) he jumped her and sexually assaulted her. Thankfully, this is the first thing Aya undoes when she travels back in time, teleporting the man off Louise before he could do anything and leaving him for the police.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: It's because of her that Alice received her Stick, the Misumis began investigating the Mahou Shoujo Site, and then, later on, became allies with Isoko Anjou and Nana.
  • Walking Spoiler: Her existence and role in the story is a huge spoiler for Misumi and Alice's role.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: The reason she was so focused on hunting after criminals is because she saw how much it was eating Misumi up that all these people were committing horrible crimes and didn't get punished for them.

Humans

    Kaname Asagiri
Voiced by: Nobuhiko Okamoto
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/dx6m7_ovwaan6jt.jpg
Aya's intelligent, loving older brother... or so he would have you think. In reality, he's one of Aya's bullies, taking out violent frustration on her because of the harsh treatment his father gives him to go to Tokyo University.
  • A God Am I: In his POV chapter, Kaname says that he thinks he might actually be a God and views everyone else as inferior. Once he stole Nijimi's wand, he begins showing more shades of this trope.
  • Adaptational Villainy: He was already a huge scumbag in the manga, but the anime omits any hints that he loves his mother, glosses over his Freudian Excuse by leaving out his reason for why he tortures Aya, and he never saves Keisuke from attempting suicide (though, that last one was because he was worried about being a suspect in his death rather than human decency).
  • Asshole Victim: Considering the fact he constantly abused his younger sister and attempted to kill all the magical girls after stealing Nijimi's wand, his fate of being beaten and raped by a police officer is more or less deserved.
  • Big Brother Bully: You'd better believe it. The only concern he shows for Aya after she'd been admitted into the hospital was that he'd miss having his punching bag around.
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: He usually plays the role of the kind older brother, and to everyone else he's nothing but helpful and smart, but it's all a front he puts on.
  • Break the Haughty: His fate post chapter 42, where he's tied up, kept in a dungeon naked, and raped repeatedly to the point of mentally accepting it, a far cry from the crafty and smug bully he once was.
  • Chekhov's Gun: In favor of the real antagonist, the King. While Kaname learns that he can harm the King with Sticks because he's a boy, ultimately he couldn't land a decisive blow because of an unseen loophole—his Karmic Rape, whether it be because of personal feelings or the King's own rules, has left him emasculated and therefore not technically a man who can harm her.
  • Cop Killer: He gave a No-Holds-Barred Beatdown to Misumi and sliced his throat to escape from his grasp. Later Subverted, as Kayo and Sakaki save Misumi. If it wasn't for them, this trope would have been played straight.
  • The Dog Bites Back: After he’s free from his father’s control, he takes the time to deliver a No-Holds-Barred Beatdown on him for his troubles.
  • Devil in Plain Sight: He appears to be this to everyone around him except Yatsumura who says "It's been awhile since I've seen a shady shitface like him". This may be because Kaname is a pretty good actor when around other people.
  • Earn Your Happy Ending: Invoked. He makes sure Aya gets her happy ending when she's found her happiness herself.
  • Establishing Character Moment: When Aya sees him in Chapter 1, his first actions are to punch her in the gut, and when she tries to protest, scream at her for being useless and tells her to keep being his punching bag.
  • Even Bad Men Love Their Mamas: He admits he loves his mother (and she's probably the only person he legitimately cares about) in his Day in the Limelight chapter because of her kindness.
  • Evil Is Hammy: At least in the anime, Kaname is very overly expressive in his gloating more or less thanks to his voice actor. Especially after stealing Nijimi's stick, his hamminess goes over the top.
  • Expy: Of Light Yagami. Both are intelligent sociopaths that view themselves as gods, and both manage to woo a pop idol so that they could use her powers to their advantage.
  • Foolish Sibling, Responsible Sibling: Certainly discussed on his part, thinking that he's the more responsible of the two siblings for upholding their father's wishes to go to Tokyo University while he perceives Aya as lazy and carefree because she doesn't have the same expectations.
    • However, Aya later proves that she's the most responsible one, having endured his abuse so that he wouldn't go through a mental breakdown.
  • For the Evulz: Across from his Freudian Excuse, he enjoys tormenting Aya for "fun."
  • Four Eyes, Zero Soul: One of the few glasses wearing characters in the series, and a true villainous sociopath.
  • Freudian Excuse: Kaname is continuously pressured by his and Aya's father to excel academically and get accepted into Tokyo University. In his POV chapter, Kaname recollects being hit in the face by his father after having a 98/100 score on his exam instead of perfect 100. Since neither his father nor mother expect the same from Aya, Kaname claims this as his justification for putting his sister through hell.
  • Hate Sink: Even with his Freudian Excuse, the remorseless way he treats his sister and the way he sees the world makes him a very spiteful person.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: In the main timeline, he uses the last of his lifespan to make sure Aya doesn't save everyone until she's happy herself.
  • Hypocrite:
    • During his evil rant in chapter 35, Kaname says he hates people that "blame their lot on others and drag them down out of a self-righteous sense of worth". That is coming from a guy who continuously abuses his younger sister and treats everyone as garbage unless he can gain something from them.
    • In his rant to Keisuke, he mentions that he hates how idol otaku like him think that idols are the property of their fans. This is the same guy who refers to his sister as his punching bag, and only wanted her back from the hospital as his stress reliever regardless of her feelings on the subject.
  • Hypocritical Heartwarming: Eventually, he comes to think Aya deserves happiness as well, even if he's still berating her as "Shitty Aya" in the same breath.
  • Inferiority Superiority Complex: His parental abuse has led him to become highly misanthropic, putting himself above the rest of humanity. However, it comes with the thought that he'll never be good enough for his father to stop hounding on him for less than perfection.
  • Irony: Most of the story has him bully Aya to violently relieve the stress of living up to his father's expectations. Chapter 42 has him kidnapped, beaten, and raped by a police officer in order to relieve his stress.
  • Jerkass: There's no getting around it— he's manipulative, selfish, violent, and horribly, horribly misanthropic.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: He still refers to his sister as "shitty Aya", while using the last of his lifespan to make sure that she won't be the only one unhappy in the end.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Jerk: See Pragmatic Villainy.
  • Karmic Rape: Normally getting raped isn't a good thing, but when it happens to him, and for the same reason he abuses Aya, it's hardly undeserved.
  • Kick The Son Of A Bitch:
    • After freeing himself from his chain, Kaname ends up slicing Koichiro in the neck with glass, and burns the man's house down as he escapes. Despite being an Asshole Victim to his wrath, there's still no denying that Koichiro was still a Dirty Cop and a rapist.
    • He arguably does this to Keisuke too. You can't ignore that Keisuke was a creepy stalker and was planning on murdering him for getting close to Nijimi.
    • Later, after being released from his father’s mind control due to Nijimi’s stick backfiring on him, Kaname subjects his helpless father to a a severe beating that leaves him a bloodied mess with missing teeth for all the abuse he inflicted on the family.
  • Lack of Empathy: In chapter 1, Aya pleads him to stop kicking her in the stomach or she might stop menstruating. Kaname says he doesn't even care what will happen to her as long she "keeps her position" of being his stress reliever. And it only got worse from here...
  • Manipulative Bastard: To get information from Nijimi regarding the Mahou Shoujo Site and his sister involvement, he pretends both to have a crush on Nijimi and to be extremely worried about his sister safety. He later uses this information to steal Nijimi's Stick. Took up to eleven after he steals the stick and use it to his advantage.
  • Misanthrope Supreme: He finds humanity to be completely meaningless. He shows more of this trope after stealing Nijimi's stick.
  • Pet the Dog:
    • When he finds out his parents are in danger from the Site Admins, he actually tries to save them.
    • In the main timeline, he uses the last of his power to grant Aya the possibility of making her own happiness, after realizing that she was going to sacrifice hers for everyone else's sakes.
  • Pragmatic Villainy: Kaname sees a man about to commit suicide and stops him, but only because if he died, he'd probably be seen as a suspect since he was there with him at the time. If it hadn't been for that, he wouldn't have even lifted a finger to help. Later, he acts all courteous around Nijimi only to get from her information about the Mahou Shoujo site and steal her Stick.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: In chapter 35, Kaname delivers a very cruel one to Keisuke and using Nijimi's stick, he forces Keisuke to kill himself.
  • Redemption Equals Death: In the main timeline, he uses the last of his lifespan to grant Aya the possibility of making her own happiness, after realizing that she was going to sacrifice hers for everyone else's sakes.
  • Seven Deadly Sins: He displays a trait of each sin.
    • Pride: He has a very high opinion of himself to the point where he views himself as a god.
    • Wrath: His abuse towards Aya.
    • Envy: His reason for abusing Aya partially being out of jealousy that she never gets pressured to succeed like he does.
    • Lust: He uses Nijimi's attraction towards him against her, he seems to get off sexually from beating up Aya, and his preferred Stick is a pair of panties, which is often used for sexual arousal.
    • Sloth: He uses mind control to get other people to do his dirty work.
    • Greed: Even after obtaining a powerful Stick, he doesn't think that's enough, so he tries to get more of them.
    • Gluttony: He likes beating up Aya so much that he actually gets withdrawal for when he has to leave her alone.
  • Slasher Smile: Kaname after discovering Aya is a magical girl. After he steals Nijimi's Stick, this is almost his default expression.
  • The Sociopath: On the outside, he is a brilliant student and a loving older brother, but in reality, he doesn't care about anything or anyone besides himself unless he can gain something from it. As seen in later chapters, he's also very good at manipulating people to do his bidding even before stealing Nijimi's Stick which gives him a complete mind control.
  • Tall, Dark, and Snarky: He's apparently a very handsome lad, but his innermost thoughts are constantly berating and snarking about all of the people around him.
  • Token Evil Teammate: He joins the Magical Girls against the King, but barring his love for his mother, he remains a very hateful and spiteful individual. That is, until his Heroic Sacrifice.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: In the finale's "true timeline", Kaname no longer suffers his dad's abuse and loses the majority of his most vile traits alongside his god complex. He's still a bit of a rude small-scale jerk in terms of attitude, but nowhere near the levels he was at in the first timeline.
  • Tsundere: His main timeline self eventually goes hard on the tsun for Aya. He still insults her and thinks she's a fool, but he developed something resembling respect for her near the end, even giving up his power to allow her to find happiness.
  • Ungrateful Bastard: Even after Aya used up precious life span to save Kaname and their parents from the Site Admins, once they're in the hospital he does nothing but mock Aya over how she's adopted and Yatsumura is her twin sister. He even exclaims there's nothing left for Aya since she's not related to the Asagiris by blood and Yatsumura is dead.
    • Subverted in the very end, where he uses the last of his lifespan to make sure Aya will never be able to save the world and her friends, unless she also obtains her own happiness in the new world, ensuring that she herself will never be cursed with misfortune in the new timelines she created.

    Keisuke Naoto
Voiced by: Yuya Asato

  • Adaptational Villainy: In the manga, he tried to get over his obsession with Nijimin and wanted to be Kaname's friend, only for him to relapse when he saw them together. In the anime, none of that happened. He saw Nijimin and Kaname together when he was stalking the former, and he vowed to murder the latter for corrupting her.
  • Alternate Self: Thanks to Aya’s mechanizations in the Grand Finale, Nijimi no longer ends up an Idol Singer, which means Naoto ends up having a happier, healthier lifestyle. Plus, it’s implied that he’s Happily Married.
  • Asshole Victim: Although his death scene is kind of sad, it's hard to feel too sorry for him considering that he was going to murder Kaname. While Kaname is a scumbag, as far as Keisuke knew, his worst crime was talking to Nijimi, and he even saved his life, albeit for selfish reasons. There's also the fact that he opening lusts and obsesses over a 14-year-old girl.
  • Bullying a Dragon: He had no idea the guy he tried to kill for being close to Nijimi was someone who could order him to kill himself.
  • Crazy Jealous Guy: His mind basically snaps when he sees Nijimi and Kaname talk to each other.
  • Driven to Suicide: He almost kills himself when he finds out Nijimi has quit as an idol. He's stopped by Kaname of all people. And later Kaname makes him kill himself this time.
  • Ignored Epiphany: After almost killing himself after he finds out that Nijimi has quit as an idol, he actually gains some perspective and decides to grow up and stop obsessing over her. He even decides to give away all of his Nijimi merchandise to Kaname (who wants nothing to do with them). He admits that he'll never stop loving Nijimi, but it's time for him to move on. Too bad he sees Kaname and Nijimi talk to each other right afterward.
  • Loony Fan: Openly admits his entire life spins around Nijimi.
  • Otaku: Specifically, he's an Idol Otaku, or wota. He is obsessed with Nijimi and his entire life revolves around her. When we see his bedroom, it's plastered with pictures of Nijimi along with her merchandise.

    Aya and Kaname's parents
The oblivious parents of Aya and Kaname Asagiri. They're completely unaware of their children's activities.
  • Abusive Parents: The father punches Kaname in the face when he doesn't get a perfect score. He also punches Kaname in the face when he comes home after going missing and walking on crutches.
  • Adults Are Useless: They completely fail to realize the obvious signs Kaname is abusing Aya. Nor that she's being horribly bullied at school.
  • Asshole Victim: Mr. Asagiri. Literally.
  • Can't Take Criticism: Mr. Asagiri has a huge freak out when his wife calls him out for his abuse, which led to the death of their unborn second child, when he breaks Aya by screaming she is worthless just because she is adopted.
  • Domestic Abuse: The father physically abuses his son and constantly hounds him to get perfect scores. Later on in the series, when Kaname goes missing, Mr. Asagiri turns his rage towards his wife and hits her when she asks him to stop drinking all the time; it's also revealed that, in the past, he beat his wife so badly that it caused her to suffer a miscarriage, as she was pregnant with their second child at the time.
  • Drowning My Sorrows: After Kaname goes missing thanks to being kidnapped by Misumi, Mr. Asagiri spends most of his time drinking himself into a stupor.
  • Education Papa: The father may want his son to succeed, but he also punches him when he gets less than a perfect score, all because he was unable to enter Tokyo University and wants his son to do it in his place.
    • When Kaname finally returns home after going missing, the first thing his father says to him is that he will need to work extra hard to catch up with his studies after the time he missed - even though Kaname had been held captive and repeatedly raped.
  • Extreme Doormat: The mother may be well-intentioned, but is too weak-willed to stop her husband from harming Kaname. It eventually turns out this is because she's been beaten by her husband for years, even to the point she had a miscarriage.
    • She finally subverts this when Mr. Asagiri won't stop drinking himself into a stupor over Kaname's disappearance. She points out that Kaname is not their only child and that Aya needs them, too.
  • Freudian Excuse: Mrs. Asagiri's weak will is explained by her enduring physical abuse from her husband for years, being traumatized over her second pregnancy ending in a miscarriage, and losing the ability to have other children.
  • Groin Attack: Mr. Asagiri suffers from this big time thanks to his power abuse of Nijimin's stick.
  • Hate Sink: Just as Kaname starts to become more sympathetic, the hatred turns towards his controlling, abusive father. Not only he does not care about Kaname's needs if he can't achieve what Mr. Asagiri never had, but Mr. Asagiri never cared about Aya because she was adopted.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: Mr. Asagiri's constant use of Nijimi's stick to keep Kaname studying for hours on end causes him to already be super weak by the time the Admin attacks him, injuring him so bad that he's not even conscious, giving Kaname the chance to beat the ever living crap out of him. The next time we see him, he's either dead or near death at the hospital, with the staff saying there isn't anything they can do to save him.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: After years of physically abusing Kaname and his wife for not meeting his downright abusive expectations, coupled with abusing Nijimi’s stick to make Kaname study against his will, it is rather fitting that the stick backfired on him and lead him bloodied and in such debilitating pain that he couldn’t move...which allows Kaname to brutally beat him up until he spits his teeth and is near dead.. You can’t argue that after abusing his son, who couldn’t defend himself from the older man’s beatings, it is cathartic to see him rendered incapable of defending himself from being punished.
  • Kick the Dog: Just when you thought Aya hadn't been kicked enough, her father downright admits he never once cared about her because she was adopted and doesn't share their blood.
  • Kick Them While They Are Down: A rather justified example. After bleeding profusely from the mouth and anus for overusing Nijimi's panties, Kaname beats the shift out of his defenseless father for all his constant abuse until he nearly kills him, and only stops thanks to Aya and his mother's intervention.
  • Mama Bear: Mrs. Asagiri finally shows this when she attempts to smack her husband after he rips Aya apart by screaming she's worthless to them because she's adopted. Unfortunately, he stops her with Nijimi's panties and smacks her to the ground, which then leads her to scream how he murdered their second child with his abuse.
  • Morality Pet: Mrs. Asagiri is implied to be this for Kaname.
  • Mundane Utility: A surprisingly non-funny example: What's Mr. Asagiri going to do now that he can order anyone using the magical panties? Force Kaname to study non-stop until he gets into Tokyo University, of course!
  • Never My Fault: Mr. Asagiri refuses to accept that his abuse is one of the reasons why his family suffer, and also led to the dead of their unborn second child that was going to be their daughter. He refused to take a no for an answer to his constant abuse to his family (namely Kaname). When his wife called him out for it, all he did is shut her up with the mind-controlling power of Nijimi's stick.
  • No-Holds-Barred Beatdown: Mr. Asagiri is the victim of this by Kaname’s hands after the later is released from being mind controlled and the former is incapable of moving from abusing Nijimi’s stick.
  • No Name Given: They haven't been referred by their full names.
  • Parental Neglect: Mr. Asagiri ignores Aya completely, and both are completely unaware Kaname abuses his sister in turn.
  • Rage Breaking Point: After spending 102 chapters as a Extreme Doormat to her husband, Mrs. Asagiri finally reaches her limit, when Mr. Asagiri hurts Aya by telling her he never really cared about her because she was adopted and didn't share their blood, to the point she tried to slap him and screaming at him for his abuse.
  • Skewed Priorities: To Mr. Asagiri, Kaname has to catch up with his studies and the inhuman site admin that just arrived to his house to kill them is a minor inconvenience. And not even being told what the Mahou Shoujo Site is matters to him. Kaname has to study — period.
  • The Sociopath: Mr. Asagiri, again. Not hard to see where Kaname inherited it from. He cares for no one but himself and his unachieved “dream”; views his son as a meal ticket to better things to the point he robs him of free will; displays an extremely nasty temper towards minor slights; prioritizes his own petty interests even when there is evidence that there are greater things at stake; and views Aya as worthless simply because she is adopted and not of his blood.
  • Strong Family Resemblance: Aya looks a lot like her mother, while Kaname looks like a younger bespectacled dark-haired version of his father. Subverted in that Aya was actually adopted.

    Kichiro Misumi
Voiced by: Tatsuhisa Suzuki
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/dx6sctqu8aaufiy.jpg

A police officer that happens to be involved with the site admins in some way.

  • Adaptational Early Appearance: In the anime, he is seen investigating the scene of Yatsumura's collapsed apartment.
  • Asshole Victim: When Kaname turns the tables on him.
  • Badass Normal: He doesn't use Sticks to hunt for Magical Girls.
  • Depraved Homosexual: Right before he rapes Kaname, he admits that he always found him attractive.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: As terrible as he is, he seems to genuinely love his little sisters Alice Maganuma and Louise Misumi.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: While conducting his experiments on lifespan, he and Alice couldn't bring themselves to sacrifice innocent young women just to find Louise. They opted to use condemned criminals and those who escaped punishment from the law. To that end, they used Anjou only because she attempted to kill them first.
  • Everyone Is Related: Alice is his little sister.
  • Evil Versus Evil: When he abducts Kaname.
  • It's All My Fault: He blames himself for his younger sister's disappearance because Louise used up her lifespan punishing the criminals he couldn't bring to justice.
  • Kick The Son Of A Bitch: Make no mistake, he's a depraved bastard but no one is going to argue Kaname had the rape coming to him.
  • Killer Cop: More like Magical Girl Serial Killer cop. Although it seems he hasn't actually killed any Magical Girls when it turns out he faked the death of Isoko Anjou.
  • Magic Wand: He has collected dozens of them. He somehow got all of them from Isoko Anjou, but where she got them from has yet to be revealed.
  • Mask of Sanity: Similarly to Kaname, he hides his deranged personality with a mask of politeness.
  • The Reveal: He and Alice allied themselves with Nana on the behest of Anjou, who suggested they do so to get closer to Nana to learn what happened to their sister.
  • Start of Darkness: It's implied what turned Misumi into a rapist was after Louise was violently sexually assaulted, with the guilt he couldn't protect her causing him to snap. However, because Aya stepped in and saved Louise before the guy did anything to her, that would mean Misumi won't turn out the way he did.
  • White Hair, Black Heart: Has pale blue hair, and one nasty piece of work.

    Yamai

The long-suffering butler of Mikari Izumigami and after the death of her parents, the closest thing she has to family.

  • Badass Normal: An old man who happens to be more skilled than he appears.
  • Baldness Angst: He freaks out whenever Mikari threatens to rip the remaining hair off his head.
  • Battle Butler: He may not look like it but he has some serious skill.
  • Black Bead Eyes: Which make him look rather cartoonish.
  • The Chew Toy: He gets no respect from his boss and gets constantly sodomized.
  • Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass: Who would have thought the decrepit-looking man could beat the shit out of an assailant that took Mikari hostage.
  • Declaration of Protection: He's stated that his one and only duty in life is to protect Mikari, even if it costs him his life. He made this promise to Mikari's mother as she lay dying.

    Yuka Sumikura

A depressed young woman being investigated by Alice Maganuma and the other magical girls, believing she's a prime candidate for the Mahou Shoujo Site and hoping to intercept a Site Admin while they deliver her Stick.

  • Always Someone Better: As it turns out, Yuka was the "Someone Better" and her best friend secretly resented her for being smarter and a better athlete. When the boy she crushed on chose Yuka over her, the best friend started the bullying campaign until Yuka turned suicidal.
  • Broken Bird: Broken so badly all she ever tweets about besides the Mahou Shoujo Site is how much she wants to kill herself. Literally, the only thing she has left to look forward to is getting a Stick.
  • The Chew Toy: Similar to Aya, she's completely covered in bruises and is routinely beaten and drenched in water every day at school.
  • Costume Porn: She wears a rather ornate butterfly plait in her hair.
  • Dull Eyes of Unhappiness: The first time we see her is from a picture where she's happy and her eyes look normal. In the real world, her eyes have become dull and empty as an example of how badly she's been bullied. Her brief cameo when the King begins the Tempest shows her eyes no longer look dull, implying maybe Shioi's intervention had a positive effect on her life after all.
  • Madness Mantra: Her tweets consist of her typing over and over again how much she wants to die or wondering when the Mahou Shoujo Site will grant her a Stick.
  • Noodle Incident: Whatever it was that alienated her so badly from her former friends never gets mentioned in the story proper. Yuka's profile page revealed her jealous best friend started bullying her after the boy they both liked chose Yuka.
  • Revenge: By the time she enters the story, all she's focused on is getting the tool to properly avenge herself.
  • Slasher Smile: She has a genuinely unsettling smile as she thinks about when she'll become a magical girl so she can finally get revenge on her tormentors. What adds to the creepiness is her entire face is never shown when she busts out these smiles.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: Due to the girls covertly investigating Yuka's situation, they were able to discover the Site Admins used to be human, and not only that, they're former magical girls.
  • Throw the Dog a Bone: After the girls intercept the Ni admin before leaving Yuka her stick, the next day Yatsumura and Shioi check out Yuka being bullied. Shioi uses her Stick to exact some payback for Yuka's sake without her knowing what happened. It's unclear if Shioi killed the bullies or not, though.
  • We Used to Be Friends: The girls who beat the shit out of her on a regular basis used to be her closest friends on the swim team.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: She disappears from the story after the focus moves onto the reveal about the Site Admins, so we never find out if Shioi's intervention had a lasting impact on her life or if her situation improved at all. She later makes an appearance when all of the living characters focused on throughout the story are reacting to the beginning of the Tempest. The way Yuka's eyes look compared to when she first appeared to imply Shioi's intervention had a positive effect on Yuka's life.

    Reiko Maguchi

One of the teachers from Mahou Shoujo Site Sept, she's investigating the seeming disappearance of gym coach Kuraki and stumbles upon the discovery he's been raping Tsurara.

  • Baby Trap: It's implied she was gonna do this with Kuraki's frozen sperm had he not been killed.
  • Berserk Button: Do not call her an old lady. Or imply she can't call herself a "Magical Girl" because she's too old for it.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: Kuraki's been raping teenage girls and taking pictures of them? Well then obviously she should display the photos of one of those girls to ruin that girl's life, because how dare Kuraki be sleeping with someone besides her.
  • Evil All Along: She's a neurotic, vengeful bitch whose jealousy of Kuraki sleeping with Tsurara and not her led to her humiliating Tsurara in such a way the girl was Driven to Suicide, which she finds hilarious. Not only that, she made a hobby of looking through the lockers in the school and tearing up any love letters she finds. Which is where she found her Stick.
  • Hate Sink: Once it's revealed she put up the photos of Tsurara and is thus responsible for the girl's life being destroyed, plus the addition of her thinking it's hilarious Tsurara killed herself, she immediately became this trope given none of her actions are justifiable or sympathetic in the slightest.
  • It's All About Me: She only cares about Kuraki's sexual abuse on Tsurara because she's pissed off he stopped sleeping with her.
  • Mood-Swinger: When she finds out Kuraki is dead, she starts screaming and rips her hair out because she wanted to have his kids. Then she immediately calms down remembering she froze some of his sperm.
  • No Body Left Behind: Hyouka jammed the laser gun Stick inside Reiko's mouth and managed to blow up her entire body.
  • Not So Harmless: At first it seems like she's all talk until she reveals she's got a Stick as well and is more than willing to kill Hyouka and Anjou.
  • Walking Spoiler: All those whited out tropes are due to the reveal in the eighth chapter of Sept revealing her true motivations and the fact she's a Magical Girl too.

    Erika Kaijima
Voiced by: Eri Kitamura
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/4b37bbae5e38435e78481fdf84791b9c_5.jpg
One of Sarina's friends who also bullies Aya everyday at school.
  • Asshole Victim: While yes, her death was an accident since Aya had no way of knowing what was going to happen her. Everyone in her class expect for her friends & their moron teacher, felt she deserved it.
  • Hate Sink: Erika is a cruel, vicious & a selfish bully. she is worse than Sarina like torturing Aya in ways far worst than the bullying like having an older student to rape Aya & killed a kitten for no reason other than to torment her.
  • Lack of Empathy: She has no remorse for bullying Aya, getting an older student to rape her, killed a kitten that Aya cared & traumatsied her by showing a collar & evilly says the guts went everywhere & is clearly beyond redemption.
  • The Sociopath: She enjoys torrmenting Aya in ways worse than bullying her & is a souless bitch.

Site Admins

    Nana
Voiced by: Ryūsei Nakao

One of the admins of the Mahou Shoujo Site, and the one that gives Aya, Tsuyuno, and Sarina their respective sticks.

  • Adaptational Villainy: In the manga, Nana is revealed to be Good All Along and was secretly fighting back against the King. In the anime, Nana is Aya's final adversary.
  • Ambiguous Gender: While it seems to have a female body, it's not clear if it's male or female, or even if has one.
  • Catchphrase: "How misfortunate."
  • Deal with the Devil: The one who gives girls their sticks at the cost of their lifespans.
  • Faux Affably Evil: Always speaks with a soft, almost teasing voice, even when it's about to slaughter you.
  • Hand Blast: Nana's ability, allowing it to fire lethal and pinpoint air-blasts through its fingers when making a Finger Gun pose. A ambidextrous power.
  • The Heavy: By far the most active and involved of the admins in the story.
  • He Knows Too Much: Leaves Sarina for dead after she realizes the contradictions of gathering the sticks and the "Tempest".
  • Humanoid Abomination: The origin of the admins isn't clear, but human is certainly not one of them.
  • Last of His Kind: Due to still being alive at the time of Aya's final correction in order to create a true timeline, Nana remains as an Admin all the way to the end. It muses on Aya's possible reasons for keeping it as it is, as the Site no longer exist and revokes Nana's sole purpose of existence. Nana ultimately decides to shrug it off as a whim and dedicates itself to find its happiness by observing the human race and its struggles unaltered by the actions of the site.
  • The Mole: Averted. Anjou believes there is still some possibility of Hyouka's consciousness remaining in Nana, but not enough to override Nana's decisions it seems.
  • Seven Is Nana: Because it supervises the Mahou Shoujo Site number 7, it's called Nana.
  • Rhymes on a Dime: In the manga by Seven Seas, she talks like this, if you please.
  • Was Once a Man: Like the other Site Admins, the current Nana's physical vessel used to be a magical girl. One by the name of Nagatsuki Hyouka, in fact.
  • Wild Card: Not even the other Site Admins can figure out what Nana is thinking by involving and getting cozy with the humans, making them suspect that it might still have residential memories of its former existence left in it once they had enough of its offhand attitude.

    Other Admins
Nii is voiced by: Aoi Yūki
Hachi is voiced by: Kizuna AI

The other admins of their respective Mahou Shoujo sites. They begin killing their respective Magical Girls after they begin suspecting about the Tempest.

  • Achilles' Heel: While they can't be killed by conventional means, they can be affected and killed by the Sticks.
  • An Ice Person: Kyuu.
  • The Blank: Ichi doesn't seem to have a face.
  • Big Brother Is Watching: They keep tabs of everything that happens on Tokyo by listening from any electronic device.
  • Didn't See That Coming: Juuni certainly didn't expect Kaname's father would wear Nijimi's panties, forcing it to leave the house without causing harm.
  • Discard and Draw: Nii, the very first site admin that the renegade magical girls manage to kill, upon its resurrection lost the Super-Strength it had upon the first encounter with them. It returns with a far worse ability instead the second time - similar to Yatsumura's.
  • Disintegrator Ray: Roku can shoot a mist that disintegrates on contact, while Juushichi can project waves that cut things into pieces, which appears to be a Shout-Out to Sticky Fingers judging from the zippers on cut things.
  • Energy Weapon: Go, Nana, Juushi, Juugo and Juuhachi all have a form of this.
  • Evil Versus Evil: Once The King declares Nana a liability, other admins are sent to hunt her.
  • Eye Beams: Juushi.
  • Fat Bastard: Shi, Juu and Juurokui. Special mention to Shi, whose prefered method of killing people is sitting on their faces, leaving them as splats on the ground.
  • Goroawase Number: All of the Admin names are both plausible given names and their numbering.
  • Healing Factor: Juugo easily regenerates from injuries.
  • He Knows Too Much: Begin targeting their respective Mahou Shoujo for trying to ask about Tempest.
  • Hero Killer. Mikari, Yatsumura and Asahi die by their hands.
  • Hoist by Their Own Petard: Many of them get done in by their own powers, courtesy of Aya teleporting them back at them.
  • Humanoid Abomination: They all may have a human body, but their faces tell they're something far worse.
  • Impaled with Extreme Prejudice: Juusan can make spikes raise from the ground to this effect.
  • Laser Hallway: Juugo can create these.
  • Lizard Folk: San looks like a lizard woman.
  • Malevolent Masked Men: Each of them wear a mask, different in design yet no less creepy.
  • Me's a Crowd: Hachi is capable of multiplying herself seemingly indefinitely, creating an army of copies.
  • Mind over Matter: Juuichi.
  • Monster Clown: Juushich has a clown mask.
  • Nightmare Face: They all look horrifying or disturbing in one way or the other.
  • Ninja Pirate Zombie Robot: They are strange beings who straddle the line between undead (being magical girls) and robots (since their insides seem to be robotic). They can also travel to electric lines.
  • No-Nonsense Nemesis: The moment they detect someone conspiring against them, they travel to their location and kill them on the spot. Their abilites seem to be made for swift murders, so it's no wonder they kill a few main characters.
  • Numerical Theme Naming: Each Site Admin is named after Numbers 1 through 18, with Admin 1/Ichi being the leader.
  • Oh, Crap!: Juuni's reaction when it realizes Aya's stick is redirecting its own attack right towards it.
  • Omniscient Council of Vagueness: They're presented as a mysterious council watching over the magical girls in meetings around a table.
  • Pest Controller: Shi's true power is summoning an army of bugs from within herself, by chanting Hail Buddha.
  • Playing with Fire: Juuroku can conjure up a rain of fire.
  • Rubber Man: Juuhachi.
  • Super-Scream: Juu's power is a powerful scream loud enough to make people bleed from every hole.
  • Teleportation: They easily move around by appearing out of the monitor of anything connected to the internet. San also can create portals on walls to attack by surprise.
  • Time Stands Still: The second Nii.
  • The Power of the Void: Juni's power is a black hole that erases anything it touches.
  • Was Once a Man: Admins are what happens to magical girls who run out of lifespan. Specifically, the conversion process is used only on magical girls, as Misumi and Alice learned in their experiments with criminals. And it seems the Admins can be turned back into humans if their depleted lifespan is replenished.

    Ichi
Admin #1, a Slender Man-like figure dressed in a uniform like those of soldiers from WWII-Era Japan. He serves as a head administrator for the Admins and reports directly to the King.
  • A.I. Is a Crapshoot: Initially one of countless A.I.s that destroyed the world. When the King appeared, she ordered all robots to restore humanity to how it was. All except Ichi were then erased from existence.
  • Broken Pedestal: In the very last chapters, Ichi learns about the King's plan to relocate humanity from Aya, which finally spurs him to do her bidding.
  • The Dragon: To the King. He has authority over the other Admins and is the most powerful of them all.
  • Invincible Villain: Has exactly 100 abilities, with one allowing him to trounce Nana. He also can cancel out manipulation of time, making time reversal and stopping useless.
  • Meaningful Name: His name marks him as the most powerful Admin who commands the others. He was also named Ichi after the King’s real name Rei, which means zero.
  • Number Two: Ironically, despite being named as "number one", Ichi is the one doing all the heavy lifting for The King and obeying them dutifully.
  • No-Sell: Is not affected by time manipulation abilities. Should he sense time being distorted, he completely negates it with his power.
  • Time Master: Can sense when someone attempts to manipulate time and counters it accordingly.
  • The Unfettered: Never ever emotes, ever, regardless of the situation at hand which he carries out mechanically and mercilessly. Logically, as he's an actual robot from a previous world order.

    The King

The King/Rei

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/vlcsnap_2018_05_27_14h34m19s328.jpeg
Voiced by: Mamiko Noto
The mysterious ruler of the Site Admins.
  • Anthropomorphic Personification: Represents the Earth as a living organism, which cleans itself and humanity of their misdeeds.
  • Big Bad: The main villain of all series.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: She appeared in the anime a couple of weeks before her official manga debut.
  • Emotion Eater: She seeks to feed on humanity's negative emotions. This only works for magical girls, however, since male users of Sticks hurt her.
  • Exotic Eye Designs: Her eyes are filled with what appear to be sperm. This sperm motif also shows up in the anime's ending and the Tempest page on the Mahou Shoujo Site.
  • Hijacked by Ganon:As it turns out, she's Magical Girl Apocalypse's Rei Kurorogi, having hopped into the King's body after his defeat and looking to take his vengeance.
  • Orcus on His Throne: Despite being the ruler of the Site Admins and is seemingly the source of their power, she initially does next to nothing. According to her, she needs to consume a bit more negative energy from magical girls before she can make a move.
