    In General
  • Badass Crew: They are widely considered to be the most powerful familia in Orario.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: The majority of them are extremely jealous of Bell due to Ais giving him attention, and makes no effort to hide their hostility even when Ais is there.

One of the strongest members of the Loki Familia.

Ais is introduced at the start of the story saving the protagonist, Bell Cranel, from a high-level minotaur that had escaped her familia's grasp while returning from a dungeon expedition. Unbeknownst to her, this event would set Bell off on a journey to one day catch up to his savior, and fight at her side.

  • The Ace: Of the Loki Familia adventurers, who themselves are a Familia of Aces. She's among the strongest Adventurers out there, with very few being able to compare to her. Even when Bell grows in power to prove himself to her, she still is unquestionably stronger then him.
  • Badass Adorable: Can cleave through armies of monsters like a hot blade through butter, but is still a kind hearted and shy beauty who you can't help but want to give a big hug.
  • Beautiful Dreamer: When she takes a nap during her break in Bell's training, Bell admires her sleeping face and has an inner struggle over whether to kiss Ais in her sleep.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Saves Bell from a minotaur at the start of the story.
  • Birds of a Feather: She notes that she and Bell are quite similar, specifically mentioning how their lack of parents is something she can't help but feel a connection with. Their motivations are also closely related, with both of them desiring to become stronger and ironically both consider the other as an example for how to do so.
  • Blood Knight:
    • This isn't very obvious in the main series, but Ais has a complex over the fact that the main reason she became as strong as she is now is because part of her came to really, really enjoy bloody combat and struggles to keep her "black flame" under control.
    • This trope is also a big part of her attraction to Bell. Even if too socially inept to understand the reason, Ais realized that interacting with him allows her to switch off from combat mode and thus have an easier time feeling and expressing positive emotions.
    • Also, Ais is deadly afraid that Bell's drive to become stronger will make him slip down the same dark path she fell into. When he asked her to stand aside during his fight with the Minotaur, she thought for a moment that it was already too late for him, only to realize that he was standing up to an overwhelming foe like the living embodiment of the ideal hero that every adventurer at some point of their lives aspire to be.
  • Blow You Away: The only magic Ais is capable of using is a type of wind barrier, Airiel. Then again, it's all she needs as it cuts everything around her apart while simultaneously dispersing projectiles and liquids that would harm her.
  • Cant Hold Their Liquor: She's forbidden from drinking alcohol as she went berserk the last time she did so, nearly killing Loki in the process.
  • Celibate Heroine: She refuses to date anyone. Subverted however with Bell who she obviously has feelings for. Double Subverted because she's also Oblivious to Love, bringing this to a full circle.
  • Child Prodigy: Already Level 2 at 8 years old.
  • Clingy Jealous Girl: In an odd fashion, she refuses to let Bete and Bell meet because she is under the impression that Bete is Bell's idol. She doesn't like the idea of seeing that at all, and even goes as far as to lie to Bete about where Bell is to prevent it.
  • Cloudcuckoolander: She's a natural airhead. Bell even notices this when he first trains with her. She once perused teaching advice from a book about rabbits. Three days later, in order to reward Bell, she gave him a carrot. (Admittedly this is partially Tiona and Finn's fault.)
  • Cool Big Sis: Oh, she is this to every younger hero; in particular Bell and Liselet.
  • Curtains Match the Window: She has golden eyes like her hair.
  • Deadpan Snarker: The Sentai Filmworks dub gives her a couple of good lines.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: In Sword Oratoria, it was hinted something happened to her parents when she was young.
  • Decoy Protagonist: Billed as the protagonist of the Sword Oratoria spin-off, but really the main focus of the story is Lefiya. note
  • Does Not Know Her Own Strength:
    • While it seems like she is a Drill Sergeant Nasty who puts Bell through Training from Hell, in reality this happened completely accidentally. She wanted to be stern, but she never aimed to seriously hurt Bell. Ais does not know how to restrain herself, so she ends up seriously hurting Bell without meaning to.
    • In a Sword Oratoria sidestory, she takes a mission with Bell to investigate an apparently haunted house. She's so nervous that she locks arms with Bell to stay calm. But when she gets spooked, she tightens her grip without meaning to, leaving him gasping in pain from getting his arm crushed by someone so much stronger than him.
  • Dork Knight: Though elegant and poised in combat, Ais is just as socially and emotionally awkward as Bell, with her head halfway in the clouds. Bell even notes to himself "Is she an airhead?" When she spontaneously starts making impractical martial arts poses at the start of training him.
  • Dramatic Irony: Part of her interest in Bell is to find out how he is able to raise his level in a month while it took her a year to do it. She is unaware that his love for her is the source of his rapid growth.
  • Driven by Envy: In Sword Oratoria, she has shown a slight jealousy of Mages and their large Area-of-effect spells. She has also displayed similar amount of jealousy towards Bell's ability to become strong in an extremely short time, it's part of the reason she decides to train him, in hopes of finding how he does it.
  • Even the Girls Want Her: Loki has basically laid a claim on her, and isn't going to let anyone else have her. Eina mentions that she finds her attractive. Lefiya is obviously in love with her. Even the rest of the female members of Loki Familia couldn't help but find Ais cute when her fear of water crops up.
  • Famed In-Story: She's famous throughout Orario for her strength as a Child Prodigy as well as her ethereal beauty. Plus, she's clearly Loki's favorite child in a familia jam-packed with some of the best adventurers around, making her even more famous.
  • Fighting Your Friend: She opposes Bell's efforts to evacuate the Xenos to the Dungeon, deeming all monsters who have the ability to scare and injure others as threats to be annihilated.
  • Foil: Sword Oratoria reveals she's very similar to Bell. They both became adventurers when they lost their family. They both grew up on stories of a hero meeting a girl and grew strong at a ridiculous rate (though Bell is even more ridiculous due to his rare skill). But Bell kept his ideals with him while Ais has thrown them away.
  • Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: She's kind and has blond hair.
  • Half-Human Hybrid: She's the daughter of a human and a spirit, which is notable since this was considered to be impossible by everyone else in the setting.
  • Hero's Muse: Ais is Bell's inspiration to become a hero as he wants to reach her level in order to stand by her side as her equal and lover. She's the reason why his Realis Phrase skill activated and is increasing his stats so fast since it's powered by Bell's wish of catching up to Ais.
  • Hero of Another Story: She's seen dealing with her own problems while Bell deals with his.
  • Heroes Prefer Swords: A sword user who is one of the best-known adventurers in Orario.
  • Ideal Hero: Ais never hesitates to protect the weak, support the emotionally vulnerable or at the very least lend a caring shoulder to cry on.
  • I'm Not a Hero, I'm...: She believes that, unlike Bell, she can't be called a hero because her main goal is revenge-driven.
  • Improbable Age: She's 16, but has been a 10-year veteran in the dungeon.
  • In a Single Bound: Using magic she can bound across town with simple jumps.
  • Inconsistent Spelling: Sentai Filmworks has her given name transliterated as "Ais".
  • Lady of War: The medieval swords-woman type.
  • Made of Indestructium: Her Desperate was personally forged by Goibniu himself to have the Durandal property, rendering it unable to bend, chip, or break but it can still dull. This is a necessity for her, as her inability to control her strength results in her breaking a lot of weaponry by mistake.
  • Magic Knight: Combines swordsmanship with her Airiel magic. Magic is actually her highest stat.
  • Master Swordswoman: There's no one who surpasses her in swordsmanship. Hence her title, "Sword Princess".
  • Minidress of Power: She always goes into battle wearing a white minidress covered by some armor.
  • Nice Girl: Soft-hearted, compassionate and kind.
  • Not So Above It All: Despite her stoic appearance, there are a few instances where she acts her age. Such as her pouting and internally blaming Riveria for Bell running away from her as well as refusing to admit to Bell that their "training" to sleep anywhere is really just because she felt sleepy.
  • Not So Stoic: Sword Oratoria shows she's more subdued than emotionless, as she is shown interacting with members of her Familia quite easily. She's shown to lash out at Loki when the latter is feeling particularly pervy and even blush when certain topics are brought up, such as Bell.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Her fellow Familia members can instantly tell something is bothering her due to how rarely such a thing occurs. Half the reason as to why they are aware of Bell in the first place is because they were curious about who could have such an effect on her.
  • Oblivious to Love: Is totally unaware that Bell loves her. At one point she even misunderstands his claim that he has someone he wants to catch up to as being about Bete rather than her. Also happens to be oblivious towards Lefiya's obvious crush on her too. Notably, she is also oblivious to her own feelings on the matter.
  • Perspective Flip: The Sword Oratoria spin-off retells the story as the main series but from the perspective of Ais and the Loki familia. Bell and Hestia are still there, but they are now Demoted to Extra.
  • The Quiet One: While she is capable of talking, she doesn't talk much.
  • Red Baron: She is often known as "The Sword Princess", given her swordsmanship.
  • Reluctant Fanservice Girl:
    • She was clearly embarrassed by Bell getting an eyeful, but strangely does not retaliate. In fact, she was more concerned that Bell did his usual "blush then run away" act.
    • Her really revealing outfit is the result of Loki threatening to bite her tongue out if she refused to wear it.
  • Sacrificed Basic Skill for Awesome Training: She is easily one of the strongest adventurers in the story, but has a hard time understanding others or even her own feelings.
  • Sexy Backless Outfit: Her usual combat outfit exposes a great deal of her back. She is actually somewhat uncomfortable about it, but continues to wear it due to Loki's insistence.
  • Sexy Mentor: She's Bell's primary love interest and helps him train on occasion.
  • Skewed Priorities: During her fight with the strange plant monsters in the pandemonium of the Monster Feriae, her sword breaks. The first thing she worried about was the scolding she was going to get from Goibniu and Loki for breaking another weapon rather than the fact that three nigh-invulnerable monsters were closing in to kill her.note
  • The Stoic: She rarely shows any emotion. This is the reason why her obsession with Bell is a well-known fact to her friends, as these are some of the only times she breaks character.
  • Story-Breaker Power: The author's editors feared that once Ais teamed up with Bell, nothing would challenge them. This was ultimately averted, however: by ramping up the threat level of the monsters that Ais fights in her own story, she ends up nearly dying several times. It's still clear she's quite strong, even among adventurers of the same level.note  However, she is not invincible.
  • Strong Family Resemblance: She resembles a younger version of her mother.
  • Sugar-and-Ice Personality: While stoic and quiet, she's warm-hearted and kind, and is adorably shy when other people show kindness towards her.
  • Super Drowning Skills: She can't swim, as when she was seven years old, Riveria punished Ais for calling her an "old woman" by tying adamantite to her and throwing her in water, calling it "swimming training".
  • The Teetotaler: Drinks water instead of alcohol while in a bar. Justified as she's 16 - and because the one time she did drink alcohol she turned into The Berserker.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: She loves the potato puffs that Hestia sells. Exaggerated in Days of Goddess, where she apparently only eats those.
  • Troubling Unchildlike Behavior:
    • She already has most of her main tropes on literally her first day as an adventurer: a thirst for raw power, a self-driven preference (if not enjoyment) for battles, zero fear to monsters and zero care to her own injuries, and problems controlling her own strength. The leaders of the Loki familia were suitably troubled, and decided any physical training for her must give way to mental training, and Riveria was assigned as her Morality Pet.
    • During Orario's darkest days, Finn is forced to let her take the field over Riveria's complaints because of how low on manpower they are. Ais shows troubling indifference to cutting down and even dismembering the members of Evilus, though she was primarily motivated by her desire to keep the injured Riveria from suffering any more.
  • What Is This Feeling?:
    • Her reaction to meeting Bell again. It took her a while before she realized that she wanted to apologize to him.
    • There are also a few moments in Sword Oratoria novels where she doesn't understand the feelings she has related to Bell. There are points where she feels things close to jealousy, but the actual idea that she might be feeling envious doesn't seem to cross her mind.
  • What the Fu Are You Doing?: When she started to train Bell, Ais hilariously starts making striking awkward martial arts poses not out of place in a bad 1970's blaxploitation film, prompting Bell to wonder if she's an airhead.
  • When She Smiles: It's rare, its subtle, but when she smiles she is practically an angel.
  • Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: For all her strength, she's terrified of ghosts, as unlike monsters, she can't cut them down with a sword.
  • Willfully Weak: She does not like use her wind magic Airiel when fighting non-monster opponents, and only uses it when she is really getting in over her head.
  • The Workaholic: She spends a lot of time in the dungeon to the point that everyone in her familia tells her to take a break.
  • You Remind Me of X:
    • Bell reminds her of her purer younger self. This is the reason for her obsession with him, as he possesses the innocence she feels she has lost.
    • In Sword Oratoria, there is a point where he reminds her of her father, equating him with the image of a hero. This image, along with her realisation that Bell hadn't started down the same dark path as her, is what actually stops her from simply killing the Minotaur, despite how protective she is of Bell at that time.

    Loki

Loki

The Goddess of the Loki Familia.

Known as the Goddess of Mischief, Loki is the head of one of the largest familias in the lower world, and strives to make Ais one of the greatest adventurers in history, while also at odds with Hestia due to their differences in breast size.

  • A-Cup Angst: She can't handle being flat-chested. This is the source of most of the enmity and cat-fights between her and the big-breasted Hestia.
  • Abhorrent Admirer: Ais always turns away Loki's lecherous advances, often violently.
  • Authority in Name Only:
    • She's supposed to be the head of her familia, but it's quite apparent she's not the one in charge. Her far more mature subordinates like Finn and Riveria are the ones who tell her what to do while she's busy goofing around like a child.
    • However, in the Sword Oratoria spin-off, she is shown to act responsibly and with authority when her 'minders' are away or when she's dealing with the other Gods as shown when she maneuvered expertly during the Denatus and her baiting Evilus into lowering their guard right after.
  • Ambiguously Bi: She will always try to get her hands on any of the girls in her familia, but a gag manga has her being swept off her feet by Bete's charms while he was in heat. Since it is a gag manga though, it might not be true.
  • Berserk Button: Being called flat. After Loki repeatedly insults Hestia for her small Familia and height, the latter activates it with flying colors, causing Loki to choose violence.
  • Bifauxnen: She goes to Apollo Familia's ball wearing a red tuxedo and with her androgynous figure, she could easily pass off as a long-haired pretty boy.
  • Butch Lesbian: Very into girls, and acts like an incredibly perverted man while acting on it. She also overall doesn't act very feminine.
  • Cheshire Cat Grin: Sports one whenever she's feeling particularly dirty or is about to blackmail someone. The above is just one of her many examples.
  • Clingy Jealous Girl: Much like Hestia, Loki doesn't want anyone getting near her favorite Familia member, in her case Ais.
  • Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass: It would do one well not to forget that for all her womanizing and sexual harassment she is still the trickster god of heaven.
  • Dirty Old Woman: Called one by her own familia, though it's hard not to when one sees the faces she makes while fondling her female children.
  • Eyes Always Shut: Loki almost always squints, with very rare occasions she fully opens her eyes.
  • Fiery Redhead: She's a loud, energetic redhead with her fights with Hestia showing she has a short temper too.
  • The Friend Nobody Likes: Brash and rude, obnoxiously clingy to the girls in her guild especially Ais, goes out of her way to bully Hestia and her familia, is a Dirty Old Woman who enjoys groping the girls of her familia, makes very little contribution to her familia with Finn and Riveria running the show. It appears even her own familia can't stand her and just barely tolerates her presence while learning to deal with her antics. Somewhat rectified in Sword Oratoria where she is capable of acting more mature and responsible like a proper god of a familia, when her 'minders' are absent.
  • Historical Gender Flip: Loki was a man in the original Norse myths... well, most of the time anyway.
  • Hopeless Suitor: Makes it no secret how infatuated she is with Ais, but the girl always shoots every one of Loki's moves down.
  • Hot Goddess: More than a little tomboyish, but she wears some rather tight revealing clothes.
  • Immortal Immaturity: Even more immature than Hestia, who at least knows restraint and will become serious when the time calls for it. Loki acts like a little child who needs to be kept on a leash by Ais or Riveria. She can easily be bribed with petty things like wine.
  • In Vino Veritas: She's actually even MORE perverted when she's drunk. Ais is seen brandishing a dagger before Loki updates her Falna for this reason. She only puts it away when Loki confirms that she's not drunk.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: When Hestia reveals the nature of the Xenos to her, Loki scoffs at the idea between reconciliation between mortals and monsters. She compares the situation to making friends with the Black Death. If something that has killed hundreds of millions of people and driven the world to extinction suddenly turned around and asked to be friends, naturally the ones being hunted would be rightfully skeptical and fearful.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Violent, perverted and rude as she may be (especially towards Hestia), it's shown that she genuinely cares for her Familia, even if they don't reciprocate it.
  • Let's Get Dangerous!: She often opens her eyes fully whenever she means business. They're red by the way.
  • Loser Deity: In a different way to Hestia. While Hestia has a bad reputation in public due to being poverty stricken and for a long time having no familia, she is held in quite high regard by the children of her familia. By contrast, Loki is very well off enjoying luxury and wealth and one of the highest ranking familias, but her own familia cannot stand her and at times revile her for her obnoxious and perverted behavior. And worst of all, she's flat.
  • Mama Bear: She won't let anyone get away with hurting her familia. While she is not allowed to directly engage in combat with another God/Goddess, she's more than willing to use every trick in the book to expose them and ruin their reputation permanently.
Loki: [grinning maliciously] That new species of monster went and hurt Ais-tan and everyone. It went an' hurt my children. I'm goin' to drag out whoever made it bloom, and make 'em pay for it.
  • A Mother to Her Men: Loki is incredibly informal with her people, often joking and bantering with them as well as playfully harassing her women, and despite the Familia's large size she addresses everyone by name.
  • The Rival: She and Hestia truly don't get along. As an example, where Loki will berate Hestia for her small family and short height, Hestia will retort with Loki's flat chest. Their rivalry seemingly has their origins even since the two were in heaven. Freya quips that the two may be friends beneath it all, since they bicker with each other instead of just avoiding each other, which the two goddesses disagree with.
  • Sitcom Arch-Nemesis: To Hestia, with the two of them fighting practically every time they cross paths.
  • Skinship Grope: Loves groping other girls, but it's a lot less innocent than most examples of this trope given she's a Dirty Old Woman.
  • Smarter Than You Look: While she acts like a goofball most of the time, she is still the goddess of trickery, mischief, and scheming, instantly pointing out all of the aches, pains, and injuries Ais sustained from her expedition to the 50th floor despite not showing any signs of discomfort. She also correctly deduces that Bell has a special skill that allows him to level up dramatically through her suspicion alone.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: Off-screen, but its mentioned that before gaining a Familia she was quite violent and would often challenge gods to death duels. Her actions around Hestia is used as proof, since it never grows beyond name calling and face mushing.

    Bete Louga

Bete Louga

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bete_louga.png
Voiced by: Nobuhiko Okamoto (JP), Ty Mahany (EN) Foreign VAs

A beastman of the Loki Familia.

Bete looks down on low-level adventurers, and considers himself the only one worthy enough to be with Ais.

  • Armed Legs: His Flosvirt are a pair of mithril boots that are able to absorb magic and use its power to increase the wielder's own power.
  • Arrogant Kung-Fu Guy: Proud of his strength and considers low-level adventurers trash. Sword Oratoria reveals that he was raised in a tribe that believed in the strong living and the weak dying, before said tribe was wiped out by a rogue monster.
  • Butt-Monkey: His team doesn't have much respect for him.
  • Cast from Hit Points: Bete's spell Hatti grows more powerful the more injured Bete is and once it has been active long enough it starts injuring Bete himself, increasing its power.
  • Crazy Jealous Guy: Gets quite jealous of Bell in episode 12 after finding out he saw Ais naked briefly due to Hermes luring him to a spot to watch the women bath.
  • Extremity Extremist: While the Amazon Sisters are often shown punching their targets while fighting without their weapons, Bete fights almost exclusively with a variety of kicks. Justified by the fact that his weapons are a pair of magical boots that can take on the properties of whatever magic they encounter.
  • Facial Markings: A tattoo down the left side of his face.
  • Hopeless Suitor: In love with Ais, but has the lowest chance of getting with her out of any of her would-be suitors.
  • I'll Kill You!: He screams this towards Kurumi Tokisaki during their second meeting in the Date A Live crossover in Memoria Freese, or rather first as the encounter in the dungeon was with an impostor that also impersonated Kaguya Yamai.
  • Inspirational Insult: Often delivers this. It seem this is the way he speaks; in Sword Oratoria most of Loki's children do understand what he actually means.
  • Jerkass Has a Point:
    • He points out exactly why it would be a bad idea to help Bell fight the minotaur.
Bete: Leave the kid alone, Tiona. He's being a man right now. If I was him, and I got saved again, I'd want to kill myself.
    • Shown again later in Sword Oratoria. When a tavern full of adventurers begin hurling abuse at Lefiya and Filvis, and Loki Famillia in general, for being late in reacting to an unusually large monster infestation and blaming them for the casualties, Bete responds by stating that people shouldn't be in the high-risk adventurer business if they can't accept the possibility of dying, cowing the entire tavern who couldn't look him in the eye after that response.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Shown in Sword Oratoria where he shows most of his jerkiness is just bluster, and he cares about his fellow Familia members. It's also shown that his major act of jerkassery was done while so drunk he didn't remember a thing the next day and became pretty depressed when he was informed of it. Also, despite his speech above, he's willing to save Bell when Lili starts begging him.
  • Little Bit Beastly: While being called a werewolf, he looks entirely human except for his ears and tail.
  • Lunacy:
    • Bete is a werewolf rather than a Chienthrope like Micha's Familia's Naza. What this means that under the light of a full moon he gets a power boost roughly equivalent a full level increase. It just doesn't come up all that often since most of the action occurs underground in the Dungeon or Knossos
    • In Sword Oratoria, Bete is finally able to use this while battling the Ishtar Familia at Melen, as they chose the night of a full moon to try and wipe out the Loki Familia. Unfortunately for Phryne, this means that Bete handily kicks her ass despite her temporary level up from Haruhime's Uchide-no-Kozuchi.
  • Mana Drain: The other aspect of Bete's spell Hatti converts any magic directed against Bete, both direct attacks and status debuffing curses into power to fuel the spell.
  • Never Be Hurt Again: His elitist behavior and tendency to keep others at arms' length comes across as this after Sword Oratoria reveals the Trauma Conga Line he suffered prior to joining the Loki Familia. After losing so many of the people he cared about to monsters, he's unwilling to hang around those weaker than him because of his innate fear of losing them too.
  • The Nose Knows: How he realized that Dionysus knew about the dangerous plant monsters as the god's scent was all over the place where he fought four of them.
  • Our Werewolves Are Different: He's from the Werewolf race and has the appropriate wolf-like features.
  • Sir Swears-a-Lot: He's the only character to use expletives—both the F-word and the S-word—on a regular basis, at least in the English translation of Sword Oratoria.
  • Spell Blade: He wears a pair of magical boots that equip the effect of whatever spell they come into contact with. He can even use magic swords to accomplish this without assistance.
  • Super-Speed: Bete's primary trait. He's considered to be the fastest member of the Loki Familia, surpassing even Ais when it when it comes to pure speed. He's so fast that not even Loki, a Goddess, can properly track his movements when he's going all out.
  • Trauma Conga Line: Volume 8 of the Sword Oratoria reveals Bete's life to be this before joining Loki Familia. Raised in a werewolf clan on the plains his tribe was almost completely wiped out, including his beloved younger sister and a young woman his age that he was growing close to, by a rogue monster. He then travelled to Orario and joined Vidar Familia in an effort to get strong enough to destroy it. While he eventually did, while he was travelling back to his home the Familia was almost wiped out by a Monster Party, losing most of its top fighters, including another young woman who reminded Bete of his childhood friend. It's more or less spelled out that most of his Jerkass behaviour is an effort to keep people at distance so he's not hurt again.
  • Tsundere:
    • Referred to this by Loki in regards to his relationship with Ais and his motives for fighting. Best exemplified by this little tidbit.
Bete: [when prompted about the Minotaur incident] I was only cleaning up after my own mistake. I wasn't doing it to save those small fries.
Loki: [nonchalant and making kissing noises, making Bete blush] Yes, thank you for that Tsundere response. It's seriously borin' how there's no twist endin'.
    • Also a slight case towards Bell himself. Privately, he is actually highly impressed with Bell's drive and ability after the Minotaur fight, to the point where he calls him a 'man' to the rest of his Familia (many of whom he calls trash despite being in the same familia) and loudly expects great things from him. Bell's successes also frequently drive him to work harder. However, when actually facing Bell, none of this slips through; with him acting as a slightly less elitist version of himself.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Is very rude when talking about Bell in the pub. Unbeknownst to him, Bell was eating at a nearby table, and Bete's mocking gets so bad that he ends up running out of the pub in tears. Bete gets strung up by his teammates for going too far with the insults.
  • "You!" Exclamation: During the Date A Live crossover in Memoria Freese, he delivers this to Kurumi Tokisaki upon their third meeting, or rather second as the first meeting alone was with an impostor that also impersonated Kaguya Yamai.

Tiona

A Pair of Amazon sisters and good friends with Ais. They, like Ais, are first-class adventurers.

  • Abhorrent Admirer: Played with, since Tione is a very fetching young lady, but Finn just isn't interested in her due to needing a Prum heir. Yet she refuses to give up and is constantly making passes at him, to the point that Finn gets chills when she's talking about doing something potentially raunchy with him when he's out of earshot.
  • Absurd Cutting Power: Tiona runs on this, with her Urga being specifically designed to cut through all but the toughest of materials with ease.
  • A-Cup Angst: Tiona doesn't like that in her group of friends she has the smallest chest, Tione in particular loves rubbing this in whenever they argue. She also shows jealousy of Hestia's rack.
  • Action Girl: Both are strong and capable warriors.
  • Always Identical Twins: At first glance appear to be fraternal, given their differences in voices and how Tione's bust is so much bigger. But the development of both of these traits is actually more affected by the environmental factors rather than the genes. On the other hand, the same hair/eye color as well as similar faces is the usual indicator of identicalness. Especially in anime genre.
  • Barefoot Loon: Both sisters go around barefoot as per the Amazon custom, but Tiona, the most childish and immature sister, is the one wearing nothing at all in her feet, while the more fashionable Tione wears toe-ring spats.
  • The Berserker: Tione has an ability that raises her attack power the more damage she takes, and the effect increases if she's mad.
  • BFS: Urga is longer than Tiona is tall. It's also a Double Weapon, being a hilt with a massive blade attached to either end.
  • Big-Breast Pride: Although they're twins, Tione's bust is much larger than Tiona's, which she's always rubbing in the latter's face.
  • Big Sister Instinct: Tione the older sister once overheard a plan to attack Tiona because the Amazons were jealous of the latter's ability to smile and happiness in general, and put a stop to it then and there by beating them all up.
  • Blood Knight: Tione when she gets pissed off enough will forgo the use of weapons and just rip monsters apart with her bare hands, even if said monsters have an acid like blood.
  • Bust-Contrast Duo: Older sister Tione is well-endowed and often acts more mature and girly, while the younger Tiona has a small chest and is overly energetic and tomboyish.
  • Buxom Beauty Standard: Tione has an ample bust and is considered the most attractive of the sisters due to it, and Tiona is often very envious of her due to it.
  • Child Soldier: Being born in Tels'kyura, they were trained from birth to fight. To begin with, they are already Level 2 at five years old.
  • Clingy Jealous Girl: Tione hates it when other girls get close Fynn and will turn murderous.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: Being born in Tels'kyura, they received their Falna from Kali on the day of birth, and were specifically conditioned to be Blood Knights, by subjecting them to duels from an early age, first with mooks, then with fellow Amazons. In a rather memorable case, both of them got their first Character Level by killing their roommates, at the age of five. Tione immediately has a Heroic BSoD when she saw the Kali Familia in Port Meren during the sixth Sword Orotoria novel.
  • Double Weapon: Tiona wields a double-bladed sword.
  • The Dreaded: Played for Laughs. Tiona is this for Goibniu's familia, who call her The Destroyer because she breaks her weapons far too often.
  • Dumb Muscle: Both are seen by Loki as this in Sword Oratoria. Tione tends to charge into the fray whenever Fynn calls upon her, while Tiona is a little airheaded, flighty, and childish. Despite this, their combat skills and raw strength are top-notch, to the point that monsters run in terror at the sight of them.
  • Family Theme Naming: Their given names are only one letter/character apart.
  • Genki Girl: Tiona for sure, Tione only when Captain Fynn is involved.
  • The Glomp: Tiona's favored way of greeting Ais.
  • Hidden Buxom: Tiona's character design makes her look almost flat-chested under her top, but when Bell crashes in the river while the sisters are bathing naked, she clearly has a decent size, almost undistinguishable from her canonically bustier sister in the same frame.
  • Hopeless Suitor: Tione would love nothing more than to bear Finn’s children but her Amazoness biology only allowing her to have Amazoness children doesn’t match his desire to have strong Prum children.
  • Kukris Are Kool: Tione wields a pair of kukri knives.
  • Love at First Punch: Tione first developed feelings for Finn after he beat her in a match.
  • Magically Inept Fighter: Tiona is the only adventurer so far to have no magic at all.
  • Marshmallow Hell: Tione has put Tiona through this to spite her or to get her to shut up.
  • Polar Opposite Twins: They are twins, but they have a Tomboy and Girly Girl dynamic.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: Tiona's Red to Ais's Blue. Tione gives the impression to be Blue to Tiona's Red but it's actually the opposite.
  • Religious and Mythological Theme Naming: Tione's alias, Jörmungandr, is the name of a giant sea serpent, and the child of the God Loki and the Giantess Angrboða from Norse mythology.
  • The Resenter: Many Amazons in Telskyura hated that Tiona was so happy in spite of everyone's circumstances, including Tione. Thankfully, Tione's sisterly feelings took precedence and she protected Tiona from being attacked outside of the rituals.
  • Shameless Fanservice Girl: Neither Tiona or Tione were all that bothered about Bell seeing them naked during his unintended intrusion on their bath time.
  • Shipper on Deck: Both are very supportive of Lefiya getting closer to Ais. Whether they're aware Lefiya has feelings or just encouraging them to be friends is left vague.
  • Ship Tease: Both Tiona and Tione are two of the few members of the Loki familia who are fond of Bell, though Tiona is the more flirty of the two, whereas Tione mainly has eyes for Fynn. Whether the former really has feelings for him is left in the air.
  • Single-Target Sexuality: Tione has eyes for Captain Fynn.
  • Smitten Teenage Girl: Tione, she's incredibly in love with captain Fynn, who is more annoyed or creeped out by her advances than anything else.
  • Stripperific: Amazons have no issue with wearing, and fighting in, skimpy clothing that looks more like swim wear than actual garments.
  • Super-Strength: Tiona's fighting style involves a large double bladed weapon designed to cut through anything but is impossible for most people to even lift let alone use. Both sisters though have shown an incredible amount of strength that is mentioned to be exclusive to the Amazons.
  • Tall Poppy Syndrome: The other Amazons of Telskyura were jealous of Tiona's happiness and planned to attack her. Tiona for her part was never aware of this because Tione protected her.
  • Theme Twin Naming: Their names only differ by one letter.
  • Those Two Girls: They are almost always seen together. Justified since they are twins.
  • Tomboy and Girly Girl: Tiona and Tione respectively.
  • Tsundere: Tione can very quickly lapse into anger if her Berserk Button is pushed.

    Lefiya Viridis

Lefiya Viridis

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/lefiya_viridis.png
Voiced by: Juri Kimura (JP), Kelley Peters (EN) Foreign VAs

An elf mage and second-class adventurer introduced in Sword Oratoria. She admires Ais in much the same way Bell does.

  • The Apprentice: She is learning under Reveria in the field of magic.
  • Beyond the Impossible: Normally even a powerful mage can only know up to three spells, but Lefiya's third spell is a mimic type that allows her to use any spell used by an elf as long as she knows the chant to it as well as knows what it does.
  • Butt-Monkey: She's always on the receiving end of Loki's gropes when all the other girls dodge out of the way.
  • Can't Argue with Elves: Subverted. She's notably is much less elitist compared to most elves because her Hidden Elf Village was not actually cut off from the outside world at all and was commonly visited by explorers moving from place to place, not to mention she spent several years studying in Orario before joining Loki.
  • Character Exaggeration: In the Sword Oratoria anime, she is much more clingy and possessive than she was in the light novels.
  • Clingy Jealous Girl: While she denies it a great deal, her extremely hostile reaction to Bell's close relationship with Ais says otherwise.
  • Cradling Your Kill: After killing Filvis, Lefiya cradled the dying Elf in her arms, saying that she is the most beautiful person she’d ever met.
  • Crash-Into Hello: How she met Bell.
  • Cute Clumsy Girl: Kind of accident prone.
  • Cute Witch: A magic using elf.
  • Death Wail: Her reaction towards Filvis’ death in vol.11. Her cry was powerful enough that magic leaked out without any chanting.
  • Deuteragonist: Of Sword Oratoria, where she's a major viewpoint character. In the anime adaptation though, it's really Lefiya's own character arc that takes center stage.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: When Bell accidentally falls into the spring the girls are bathing in, most of them are relatively unfazed. Meanwhile, Lefiya is already busy chanting one of her Fantastic Nuke spells as Bell flees for his life and had to be stopped by the other women from killing him.
  • Distaff Counterpart: She is essentially a female version of Bell, being a relatively weak adventurer inspired to be greater by Ais. She also has amazing potential and is working on trying to win the affection of Ais.
  • Driven by Envy: Despite having more years of experience in the dungeons, Bell far exceeds her in fighting ability and it drives her nuts. At one point when they both ended up lost in the middle dungeon floors she tried to take charge to show off her superiority to him, but found herself matched by his general know-how. When she learns that he leveled up to Level 3, the same level as her, she becomes frustrated and dismayed.
  • Feminine Women Can Cook: The most girly of Ais's circle of friends, and the one most capable in cooking.
  • Futile Hand Reach: Again with Filvis in vol.11, but Filvis had deliberately changed her speed so she wouldn't reach her and their plan could work.
  • Glass Cannon: Able to release huge Area-Of-Effect spells but they take time and she is completely vulnerable while chanting, also she lacks experience so she can get startled fairly easily and has zero melee ability.
  • Grew a Spine: Mostly in Sword Oratoria light novels. As the story progress, she gradually grew out of her lack of self-confidence and nervous personality and became a more powerful companion.
  • Heroic BSoD: Filvis's death in Book 11 of Sword Oratoria is, to date, the most serious example of this in this franchise—Lefiya received so much shock that she completely unresponsive, even to Ais.
  • Imagine Spot: She often has fantasies of being with Ais.
  • Important Haircut: After the death of Filvus, Lefiya cuts her hair into a pixie style.
  • Jerkass to One: With any other person, she's more or less a Nice Girl. When it comes to Bell and how close he is to Ais, she goes all Clingy Jealous Girl and goes to extremes in keeping Bell away.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: She feels very guilty after reducing Bell into a sobbing mess after letting out her pent up aggression against him. After which she begins to treat him a little more decently.
  • Lipstick Lesbian: Acts very traditionally feminine, and has shown interest only in girls.
  • The Load: Bete holds nothing back and outright considers her one, especially when he compares her to Filvis, another Level 3 magic-using elf who performs much better in combat than Lefiya does, adding that Tione and Tiona being too nice and forgiving was probably detrimental to her development as an adventurer.
  • Necessary Drawback: Her mimic spell allows her to cast any other spell an elf can use, but after successfully using the mimic spell, she then needs to do the chant and gather the magic power for the mimicked spell. Since successfully using a copied spell requires more time and power to do, there are more things that could go wrong and more opportunities for her enemies to counter her.
  • Overshadowed by Awesome: As a Level 3 she is overshadowed by the top fighters of Loki Familia, resulting in her fears that she would become The Load and her subsequent lack of self-confidence.
  • Person of Mass Destruction: As a back-line Mage this is her role in combat, especially in the much lower levels where armies of monsters are common, she can destroy hundreds if not thousands of monsters in one attack. Assuming she can complete the chanting required.
  • Playing with Fire: Her Fusillade Fallarica is a fire-based attack spell.
  • Pointy Ears: She has the long and pointed ears that are characteristic of elves.
  • Power Copying: There are some conditions but with her Summon Burst she can copy Elven Magics.
  • Red Baron: Thousand Elf, referring to Lefiya's ability to bypass the typical "three spell" restriction on most Adventurers through her Elf Ring spell, allowing her to utilize any elven spells in addition to her own.
  • The Resenter: She can't stand how Bell is so close to Ais and how quickly he can level up compared to everyone else.
  • Ship Tease: With Filvis, while Lefiya's attraction toward Ais is more or less one-sided, her relationship with Filvis is much more genuine and mutual.
  • Sitcom Archnemesis: Treats Bell as this from the moment she sees him with Ais.
  • Spotlight-Stealing Squad: In the original Sword Oratoria light novels and the manga adaptation, she doesn't take too much focus away from Ais, but in the anime adaptation, her own personal struggles and wanting to win Ais's affection takes far more focus.
  • Squishy Wizard: Unlike Riveria, who is experienced enough to cast spells while on the move and use her staff as a weapon, Lefiya has little to no close combat experience, making her a liability if no one is available to provide cover for her.
  • Staking the Loved One: At the end of SO volume 12, Lefiya killed Filvis with her own sword.
  • Superpower Lottery: Most people are only able to learn a maximum of three spells. However, due to Lefiya's unique final spell, Elf Ring, she has no limit on the number of spells she's able to learn, allowing her to even replicate elven magic in addition to her own. And more so in SO volume 12, after she discovered a new skill that allows her to use two magic at one time, something no mage can do in this world, not even Riveria!
  • Transparent Closet: Vehemently denies that she has any feeling for Ais, while also having fairly erotic Imagine Spots about her.
  • Traumatic Superpower Awakening: In Sword Oratoria light novel 12. After witnessing Filvis's death in volume 11, she went into shock and didn't respond to anything until Loki managed to pull her back. Later, when she update her status, a new skill popped up.
  • Underboobs: One of the outfits she donned (called "Arcanic Cascade" in Memoria Freese) shown off the bottom side of her bust.
  • Unknown Rival: Considers Bell to be a rival for Ais' attention. Bell is oblivious to this, but is aware that Lefiya alternates between being nice to him and mean to him.
  • Wake-Up Call: Bete told Lefiya straight to her face that he considers her The Load and added that their friends being too nice and forgiving about Lefiya's The Load status was detrimental to her development as an adventurer. Lefiya admitted he was right and started taking more active steps in becoming stronger rather than simply lamenting her weakness.

Voiced by Risa Taneda (JP - Anime Season 1), Ayako Kawasumi (JP), Melissa Pritchett (EN) Foreign VAs

An elf mage, first-class adventurer, and one of three leaders of the Loki Familia.

  • The Archmage: The strongest Mage in Orario, at Lv.6.
  • Barrier Maiden: Veil Breath (buffs defense of nearby members) and Via Shilheim (negates all incoming damage).
  • Berserk Button: She doesn't take it well when others call her old.
  • Charged Attack: An interesting case, she has a technique Chant Connect that allows her to use different magic based on the length of the chant. Each spells can derive into 3 different magic, and since she has 3 spells, thus allows her to use 9 magic total while most other mages can only use up to 3 magic. This earns her the name Nine Hells. Spells such as Wynn Fimbulvetr and Lea Laevateinn each are phase one and phase two charge of her attack spell. Spells such as Veil Breath and Via Shilheim each are phase two and phase three charge of her defense spell.
  • Curtains Match the Window: Her green hair is the same shade as her eyes.
  • Elemental Powers
    • An Ice Person: Wynn Fimbulvetr blasts the opponent with an extremely cold blizzard and is said to freeze time as well as the enemy.
    • Playing with Fire: Lea Laevateinn is a wide area fire-based annihilation magic.
  • Famed In-Story: In addition to her fame as one of the Loki Familia's executives and the single strongest mage alive, Riveria is elven royalty, which means she is known by elves the world over.
  • Kung-Fu Wizard: Unlike most mages, Riveria's experience allows her to cast spells while on the move and even beat foes back with her staff, averting the typical Squishy Wizard trope associated with mages in Orario.
  • Mentor Archetype: She mentors Lefiya in magic.
  • Morality Pet: Because of Ais's Troubling Unchildlike Behavior, she was assigned to be this for Ais so that Ais can actually understand restraint.
  • Parental Substitute: Of the three highest ranked members of the Loki Familia, she has the closest relationship with Ais. Loki practically pushes all of Ais personal problems onto Riveria due to how motherly she is. Loki even teases Riveria by calling her "mama".
  • Person of Mass Destruction: Like Lefiya she is capable of destroying mass numbers of monsters in an instant, in fact her first appearance in Sword Oratoria is destroying a massive monster army.
  • Pointy Ears: She has long and pointed ears as proof that she's an elf.
  • Red Baron: She's known as the "Nine Hells".
  • Really 700 Years Old: Downplayed as she is "just" 99 years old, making her young by Elf standards.
  • Rebellious Princess: She found royalty life restrictive and her interests in The Outside World put her at odds with her father. What finally sets her off is when her father tear up her treasured world map, prompting her to leave her home for good.
  • Royals Who Actually Do Something: As a high elf, Riveria is elven royalty. She's long since abandoned the life of a royal, however, to become an adventurer.
  • Shipper on Deck: In contrast to the majority of her familia, she's in fact very encouraging of Bell/Ais since the former is able to make Ais feel emotions other than a desire to become as powerful as possible.
  • Walking the Earth: What she really wanted to do when she left elf forest. Instead, she got caught up in Loki Familia simply because Loki really wants an Elf in her Familia (much to Finn's chagrin). She fully intends to go back to this life once she retires and bring Ais along with her.

    Fynn Deimne

Fynn Deimne

Voiced by: Mutsumi Tamura (JP), Shannon Emerick (EN) Foreign VAs

A Prum warrior, first-class adventurer, and one of three leaders of the Loki Familia. Captain of the Familia.

  • Attack! Attack! Attack!:
    • The final effect of his magic, Hell Finegas, which raises fighting capability at the cost of the ability to make proper judgments. Being the field leader, he is naturally hesitant to use this, as one mistake could lead many of his fellow Familia members to their deaths.
    • Subverted in the closing of the Astraea Record story of Memoria Freese. He's simultaneously so pissed and focused on killing Valletta that he manages to hold onto his sanity even after Hell Finegas reached its peak, essentially giving him a full level up's worth of stats. He proceeds to tear a bloody swathe through multiple smaller familia under Evilus and only barely misses Valleta as she flees for dear life.
  • Awesomeness by Analysis: A quick and powerful warrior able to see the perfect route to victory in almost any situation.
  • Badass Adorable: He's short, cute-looking, and generally a kind and reasonable person. He will kick your ass nine ways to Sunday if you happen to cross him.
  • Brutal Honesty: Usually outwardly polite and amiable, but he has his moments.
Finn: [after a group of adventurers manage to piss off the Amazon sisters] As you can see, these girls don't have the ability to seduce anyone.
  • Can't Hold His Liquor: One of the first members of his familia to get drunk during their party at the bar, not even making it past one cup despite his seniority.
  • The Captain: He is the Captain of the Loki Familia.
  • Chick Magnet: During a murder investigation it was decided that the women of the town must be body checked. All of the women immediately flocked to Fynn for the check, all of them swooning over him and spouting their adoration for the diminutive Adventurer. Keep in mind that he's 42.
  • Good Is Not Soft: He's affable, a Reasonable Authority Figure, and generally the most reliable and responsible member of the Loki Familia. This will not stop him from crushing anyone who dares to threaten the Loki Familia and Orario with brutal and overwhelming force, or even using civilians as bait to draw out the enemy and lure them into a trap. When he steps onto the battlefield personally, he's a One-Man Army who can decimate entire familia on his own.
  • Good Old Fisticuffs: Resorts to these after being disarmed. It's a lot more effective than you'd expect, being able to punch someone clear across a field when he's really trying.
  • Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: Is blond, friendly, and a Reasonable Authority Figure. Just don't get on his bad side.
  • Heroes Prefer Swords: While not his favorite weapon, he's still fully capable of wielding a sword with great dexterity, slicing off the legs of entire groups of acid-spewing monsters with ease while borrowing Ais's Desperate. He's also the leader of the Loki Familia's field forces.
  • Heroic Resolve: Two of his skills reflect this aspect of him. The first his Pallum Pride, in which his choice to face unfathomable danger for his race grants him bonuses to his magic and skills in the face of adversity. The second is Noble Brave, in which his sheer bravery and Nerves of Steel grant him a great amount of resistances against attacks on his mind.
  • Hobbits: His race, the pallums/prums, are this more or less, only being even more child-like in appearance.
  • Hope Bringer: Invoked. Having seen the despair that had overtaken the Prum race, Finn decided to become a guiding light to the rest of his people and inspire them to greatness, so that they may once more stand up for themselves. Upon making this decision at the age of ten, he changed his name, underwent four years of martial training, and then joined the Loki Familia, eventually leading it to greatness and global fame.
  • Kissing Under the Influence: He wonders if Tione is going to do this to him while he's drunk.
Fynn: What are you planning to do to me after I'm drunk?
  • Large and in Charge: Subverted. He is easily the smallest member of the familia next to some girls, and is easily the most respected member of the group in regards to taking and giving orders.
  • Like Goes with Like: For a person who works to restore the prums' pride, naturally he prefers dating another Prum instead of Tione, an amazon who is utterly smitten with him, since he needs a prum heir to continue his legacy after he's gone. He eventually decides to propose to Lili, who rejects him in favor of Bell. Then he tries a bit of Reverse Psychology by challenging Bell to a duel in hopes of getting him closer to Lili, but is forced to flee from Tione's advances before he could do so.
  • Magic Knight: Despite his preference for using a spear, he has a respectable B-Rank in his Magic stat. In addition, one of his two magics, Tir na Nog, adds all of his stats, levels, and ability totals to his magical power for a one-shot thrown attack, but it can only be used once every twenty-four hours.
  • Make Some Noise: His "Commanding Howl" skill allows him to project his voice across long-distances, suitable for his role as the main tactician and field commander.
  • Meaningful Name: Finn's first name means "Fair-Haired" while his surname means "Sureness" or "Confidence", reflecting his blond hair and commanding presence as the Loki Familia's field commander.
  • Meaningful Rename: Rather than being his given name, Finn is actually the name he chose when he decided to become a beacon to the rest of his people. It means "light" in the language of the Prum.
  • Messy Hair: His hair is noticeably messy at the sides in such a way that it's almost feminine in the novels and the anime (see above). The manga tones it down considerably, giving him a much neater and combed style that is clearly boyish in nature.
  • Multi-Melee Master: While he prefers to use his spear (since one of his skills boosts his already formidable mastery) he doesn't mind taking up Ais's sword when confronted with monsters that would melt any other weaponry if stabbed. He is also willing to go hand-to-hand if deprived of both of these, punching other Level 6 adventurers clean across entire caves, albeit breaking a finger in the process.
  • Nerves of Steel: Never really seen panicking (except when Tione is making moves on him) and always finds the best course of action no matter how bleak the situation is. He can also make hard decisions such as leaving Ais to fight the boss alone while the rest of the Familia fled.
  • No Guy Wants an Amazon: Tione is absolutely head over heels for him, but he is far from interested in dating her. In fact, he gets chills when Tione mentions that she wants to sleep in the same tent with him despite not being within earshot of the conversation.
  • Older Than They Look: Looks no older than a human child who just entered puberty, yet is described as having over forty years of experience. In fact, his appearance has stayed the same for over ten years as seen in one of Ais's flashbacks. Justified by the childish appearance of the Prum race (equivalent to a less hairy version of a Hobbit), and then doubled down on in Volume 8 of the Light Novels where he explains that Adventurers age slower due to their divine blessings, but it only becomes noticeable in the higher levels that most adventurers don't reach. Being a Prum just amplifies the effect.
  • One-Man Army: As a first-class adventurer and the Captain of the Loki Familia, he's able to slash his way through hordes of monsters on his lonesome. In fact, with Hell Finegas active, he's the most dangerous combatant in Orario after Ottar, as the magic essentially grants him a full level up's worth of stats at the cost of his sanity... unless he's truly and utterly pissed, upon which his sheer rage lets him cling to his reasoning, allowing him to slaughter entire familia with ease.
  • Purple Is Powerful: Most of his clothing is purple and he kicks copious amounts of ass.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: Gently scolds Ais for breaking formation in order to save some of the other members of the Familia but is willing to rewrite entire battle plans to accommodate her request after hearing the input of his fellow Familia commanders. While he makes hard decisions sometimes, such as leaving Ais behind to face the mutated acid-spewing monster alone, he does so with the knowledge that her indestructible sword and wind magic make her best suited for facing it and he has utmost confidence that she'll succeed. Sure enough, she does. In the Date A Live crossover campaign of the mobile game Memoria Freese, as opposed to the Anti-Spirit Team, he specifically ordered that both Shido and the Spirit friends that came with him are to be escorted out of the dungeon unharmed upon seeing they can be reasoned with.
  • Red Baron: Is renowned as "Braver" for his Nerves of Steel despite his diminutive and flighty race.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: When his magic Hell Finnegas is activated. Boy, you do not want to cross him then.
  • Religious and Mythological Theme Naming: Seems to be named after Fionn mac Cumhaill aka Deimne from Celtic Mythology.
  • The Strategist: Part of his claim to fame is his brilliant tactical acumen to go with his Nerves of Steel. During Orario's darkest days, he's placed in charge of leading all of Orario's adventurers against Evilus despite being largely outnumbered and being forced to defend Orario's non-combatants from Evilus' rampage. Although victory came at the cost of several of the Loki Familia's veterans, he successfully out-gambits Evilus' own tactician, Valletta and secures victory for Orario.
  • Weak, but Skilled: Compared to his fellow Level 6s, his stats are somewhat below par due to his nature as a prum, known to be the weakest of the races next to humans, compensating with extreme skill and decades of combat experience instead. For reference, his stat spread includes a Dexterity stat of S-Rank: 999 while his Strength is a relatively paltry E. Nevertheless, this doesn't mean he's weak, he's still a Level 6 and can punch people clear across a room and slice through the roots of a giant plant monster with ease. He's only relatively weak.
  • Weapon Twirling: Can spin his spear in his hand so quickly it acts like a buzzsaw!
  • Wholesome Crossdresser: In an omake where Loki makes her entire familia wear sailor uniforms after an argument with Riveria, Finn pulls off the look incredibly well. It elicited a warm response:
Loki: [In the Reaction Guys pose] It's a legal trap!
Tione: [also cheering] It's a real cute schoolgirl cosplay!
Narration: That day, Tione stepped into the realm of the gods.
  • Wrecked Weapon: His Fortia Spear gets melted by the unknown monsters on the 50th Floor, but he later gets it replaced by one with the Durandal attribute like Ais's made by Tsubaki Collbrande, the highest level member of the Hephaestus Familia.

A dwarf warrior, first-class adventurer. And one of three leaders of Loki Familia.

  • Elves Versus Dwarves: Had a mild case of this with Riveria back when she, Gareth and Finn were the only members of Loki Familia.
  • Epic Flail: Turned a ten metre long red dragon into one by grabbing its tail and spinning it around to smash into other attacking monsters.
  • Inconsistent Spelling: Yen Press occasionally spells his name Galass.
  • Large and in Charge: He's fairly stout but Ais, Bete, and Tiona kneel to him when ordered to.
  • Our Dwarves Are All the Same: Fits the stereotype to a T.
  • Out of Focus: Out of the three original members of Loki Familia, he has the least focus and development of them all.
  • Super-Strength: Dwarves as a race are noted for their physical strength and as a Level 6 adventurer Gareth takes that even further. Its suggested that in terms of raw physical power he may surpass even Ottar. The best demonstration of the power is in the opening of the eighth novel, when a hit at the ground 10 meters from the enemy lines is enough to blow formations of Rakian soldiers away.
  • Vitriolic Best Buds: Again with Riveria. They've mellowed a lot since their rocky start but it still comes out under particularly stressful moments.

A Level 4 Human adventurer of the Loki Familia.

  • The Generic Guy: Zigzagged. While he is described as extremely average looking and often acts as the random Loki child, he's still a Level 4. His role in the familia is also hardly generic (if off-screen), as he works as the coordinator of Loki's rather numerous lower-ranking children.
  • Heroic Self-Deprecation: Due to Overshadowed by Awesome, he has a poor opinion of his abilities that most people thinks he underestimates it.
  • Overshadowed by Awesome: He's treated as generic because he's in the Loki Familia. As a Level 4, he would be a big shot elsewhere.
  • Red Baron: High Novice; referring to the fact that he's definitively not a novice but tends to see himself as such.
