Representing the Regia Marina of the Kingdom of Italy... with a particular focus, naturally, on the ships of the Marina during the reign of "Prime Minister" (and later Duce) Benito Mussolini, and thus who participated in the second World War.

Faction-wide Tropes

  • Animation Bump: Having been produced during AL's third year of operation, a number of the Sardegna girls not only have varied facial portraits for dialogue scenes, they have a lot of them compared even to many other characters. Littorio and Cesare have so many that the tweets announcing them for the English version had to split off the facial previews into a whole separate image just to fit them all in, and Cesare's casual outfit manages to fit them all into one image only with some difficulty.
  • Badass Cape: Virtually all of them wear a cool-looking cape of some sort as part of their uniform, dramatically fluttering in the wind in their static skins like Carabiniere or Conte di Cavour or further accentuating their color schemes a la Littorio and her green hair and cape; Cesare is alone among the extant Sardegna ships in not having one.
  • Breather Episode: Their events tend to be lighter in tone than most other events, especially their Northern Parliament counterparts.
  • Foil: To the USSR equivalent Northern Parliament:
    • Both are presented as more minor players of their respective factions compared to the Eagle Union, Ironblood, Royal Navy and Sakura Empire, but have different story treatments. The Northern Parliament's events tend towards Wham Episode with major revelations, while Sardegna is treated an Ineffectual Sympathetic Villain tending towards Breather Episode. The Northern Parliament also has a deliberate rivalry with its own "capitalist" allies while Sardegna's allies tend not to treat them with respect despite their attempts to gain recognition.
    • In terms of aesthetics, both factions' shipgirls of heavier classes note  are mostly gorgeous, sexy ladies and they prefer attire that are a common source of fanservice. Sardegna shipgirls are more "high-life" oriented, aristocratic, and are themed around the Mediterranean summer; their shipgirls prefer swimsuits and act like fashionista supermodels. The Northern Parliament, meanwhile, is more utilitarian and are winter-themed. They also prefer lingerie and BDSM-adjacent gulag prisoner/guard outfits, overall being modeled after sexpot baronesses.
    • Ideologically, the Sardegna Empire isn't fascistic like Italy was, themed more after the Roman Empire and modern Italy, even lacking Blood Knight qualities of their German Ironblood and Japanese Sakura Empire allies. The Northern Parliament meanwhile is still shown to be Communist or Communist adjacent.
  • Ineffectual Sympathetic Villain: Portrayed this way in Empyreal Tragicomedy: Their Ironblood allies in the Crimson Axis barely even treat them like worthy enough to recieve their support, instead preferring to come up with convenient excuses to not come to their aid, and the Royal Navy views their attempts to backstab them as pathetic more than anything, pitying them rather than seeing them as a genuine threat, instead preferring to coerce them to stop their foolishness and accept their invitation back into the Azur Lane faction. Subverted after Daedalian Hymn, when they are no longer this trope because they are, at least nominally, no longer villains.
  • Latin Lover: Most if not all of the non-destroyer/submarine Sardegnian shipgirls introduced so far are attractive ladies with gorgeous bodies.
  • Kung Fu-Proof Mook: Torpedo Damage Reduction is a common ability of Italian ships.
  • Man of Wealth and Taste: The Daedalian Hymn video portrays the Sardegna Empire as rather idyllic, and their high ranking kansen all put great stock in their culture and see it as something to be defended.
  • Spell My Name With An S: Early references to the faction in "Crimson Echoes" and King George V's skill refer to them as "Sardinia", after the English rendering of the namesake island, before "Empyreal Tragicomedy" settled on "Sardegna", from the original Italian rendering. An alternate rendering, Sardinian Empire is shown in promo art for Littrio's Chinese server 3rd anniversary outfit.

I'm the Sardegnian destroyer, Emanuele Pessagno. Umm... Commander, you look way different in-person than through my telescope... Must be because I can get a closer view.

  • Foolish Sibling, Responsible Sibling: Compared to da Recco, who she implores to take a safer route in one of her voice lines.
  • My Greatest Failure: She mentions how she was sunk by the British submarine HMS Turbulent during an escort mission and laments that she wasn't more careful.
  • Shrinking Violet: She prefers to watch things from a distance through her telescope, but as her affection increases she's more comfortable opening up to the Commander.

    Maestrale-class

  • Counter-Attack: Both of them have skills that only trigger upon your fleet taking damage. Interestingly, they will not trigger if they take damage themselves, only if other ships do.
  • Sibling Yin-Yang:
    • Maestrale is well-mannered but stutters and is easily flustered. Libeccio is loud and fearless.
    • While both of them have predominantly white hair, their inner shades are opposing colors (red for Maestrale, blue for Libeccio).
    • Maestrale's Counter-Attack provides a defensive Smoke Out and evasion buff. Libeccio's is a purely offensive barrage.
  • Theme Naming: The entire class is given the names of Mediterranean winds.
  • Set Bonus: They both gain bonus stats when sortied with other members of the Sardegnan fleet.

Now lift the rim of your skirt and bow... Ahem! I'm Maestrale, d-destroyer from the Sardegna Empire. Greetings to you and your fleet, Commander. I hope I did that right...

  • No Social Skills: At least compared to her younger sister, which she's trying to get better at.
  • Proper Lady: Always tries to act like this, but is always worried about whether she's doing it right.
  • Shrinking Violet: She's always worried if what she's doing or saying is the correct way to behave.
  • Smoke Out: Can deploy a smokescreen in response to your fleet taking damage.

  • Cool Big Sis: Despite being younger than Maestrale, she ends up as this to her, being the person that Maestrale looks up to- at least, in terms of social skills
  • The Glomp: She loves to cling to the Commander.
  • Manic Pixie Dream Girl: Is actually this for her sister.

"It's-a me, Alfredo Oriani, name ship of my class of destroyers! Conserve vowels and just call me Alfredo! Go ahead and send me to the front where all the action is – I've covered world wars, you know! Heheh!"

  • A-Cup Angst: Her Special Touch line in her Vivacious Vivace skin has her yell in annoyance at the Commander that she has nothing there.
I'm not hiding anything! There's nothing I CAN hide to begin with! Use your common sense!
  • Camera Fiend: She's constantly toting her camera around and taking photos whenever she can. It gets played for laughs extensively in Aquilifer's Ballade where she is constantly distracted by all sorts of potential "Photo ops", much to the chagrin of Emanuele Pessagno. She most infamously chases Hai Tien and Ping Hai with her camera trying to get pictures of them.
  • The Ditz: Is very much this in Aquilifer's Ballade where she seems in some scenes to be unable to grasp the situation around her. For instance when Hai Tien mentions that isn't running away the natural thing to do when someone suspicious is chasing her with a camera, Alfredo's response is:
"A suspicious person? Where? Tell me where they are!"
  • I Can't Believe a Guy Like You Would Notice Me: At her Like affinity, the Commander tells her he likes her, but she dismisses herself as nobody special, and asks who else he's interested in. If you Oath her, she's practically hyperventilating at her feelings being reciprocated and asks why the Commander chose her, claiming he has zero reason to marry her.
  • Intrepid Reporter: She's a self-described gossip-loving journalist with a devil-may-care attitude always searching for her next scoop.
  • Named After Someone Famous: Named after writer and author Alfredo Oriani whose work is considered by some to be the precursor to fascism.

Carabiniere

Voiced by: Rika Tachibana

ID: No. 415
Rarity: Elite
Artist: Yumesaki Kaede

"Flagship Veneto's escort, Carabiniere of the Sardegna Empire, reporting for duty! As your subordinate, I will carry out your orders and complete any mission!"

The personification of the RN Carabiniere, seventh of the Soldati destroyers. She is primarily notable for having been something of a survivor in real life - she was not only one of only two of her class to have survived the entire war and remain in Italian possession afterwards, but she was the very last Soldati to finally meet the scrappers - she lasted until 1965, years after even her sisters in Soviet or French hands had been sent to the breaker's yards. She was also the pioneer of a design innovation for the class - she traded out the amidships starshell launcher for another full-on 120mm cannon.

  • Birds of a Feather: She not only understands what York is talking about in the brief time they're working together, she even gets into it herself.
  • The Comically Serious: She's something of a fussbudget and takes her duties very seriously... which is often played for comedy in narratives she's involved in, as she's serious even in situations she could stand to loosen up a bit in. Her fellow Sardegnan frontliners like to tease her a bit for it.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Was on the receiving end of one during Empyreal Tragicomedy when she referred to Formidable as a "lumbering" aircraft carrier. A miracle that she managed to escape somehow...
  • Sean Connery Is About to Shoot You: Her default art has her pointing her rifle very nearly at the camera... and, uh, possibly also the Commander.
  • She Cleans Up Nicely: Her "Refreshing Sundress" skin has her actually relaxing for once on Veneto's suggestion, and she goes from her usual full carabiniere uniform (and her somewhat-too-fussy personal tendencies that go with it) to, well, looking drop dead gorgeous and being a bit embarrassed about it.
  • That Came Out Wrong: During Empyreal Tragicomedy, she attempts to explain to Formidable that she fights by using her greater maneuverability as a destroyer class ship to outmaneuver slower ship classes like aircraft carriers. Unfortunately, Formidable gets upset over being described as "lumbering" and precedes to beat her down while she attempts to backpedal.
  • Verbal Tic: "Arimasu!" Carabiniere tends to use this particular verb, and this particular grammatical construction, quite often as a full arimasu is fairly polite and formal compared to alternatives; it's part of what marks her as a bit too serious for her own good.

    Capitani Romani-class

I'm Pompeo Magno of the Capitani Romani-class from the Sardegna Empire! My speed and firepower make me suited for any kind of mission, and what I lack in protection I more than make up for with agility!

  • Fragile Speedster: Like most Sardegnan light cruisers, Pompeo is built for very high speed with armor protection downplayed.
  • Go-Getter Girl: A chronic overachiever who ends up pleading for help from the Commander after making more commitments than she can fulfill.
  • Named After Someone Famous: After General and Senator Gnaeus Pompeius Magnus, also known in English as Pompey the Great.

  • Improbable Weapon User: Instead of standard mounted guns, she flings her black/white rabbit plushes at her opponents.
  • Named After Somebody Famous: Marcus Atilius Regulus, a Roman general during the Punic Wars who was captured by Carthage and sent to Rome to negotiate a surrender. He told the Romans to fight on and was either executed or starved to death upon his return to Carthage.

Light Cruisers (CL)

    Duca degli Abruzzi-class

Duca degli Abruzzi

Voiced by: Hiromi Hirata

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/abruzzi_al.png
ID: No. 501
Rarity: Super Rare
Artist: Ohisashiburi

" I am light cruiser Luigi di Savoia Duca degli Abruzzi, Sardegna's splendorous dignitary. I've waited for the day to fight under your banner, Commander."

  • Artificial Limbs: Her right hand is prosthetic. Made more obvious in her bikini skin since, well, there's a lot more visible skin for it to stand out against.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: Her "Lustrous Onyx Sirenetta" skin depicts Abruzzi in a pool next to her sister, Giuseppe Garibaldi. This skin was released nearly a year and a half before Garibaldi became a playable ship.
  • Face of a Thug: Nowhere near to the extent of, say, Friedrich der Grosse, but it's there. She has a mechanical hand, an ominous halo with a black-and-pink color scheme suggesting it's anything but holy, and her base art depicts her standing on... something that has monstrous exposed teeth and gums straight out of a Body Horror anime. Despite all this, Duca degli Abruzzi is a gallant and honorable warrior.
  • Good Prosthetic, Evil Prosthetic: Firmly in the good side. Her prosthetic right hand is slender and draws little attention. In her base skin, she even makes sure to wear a similarly-colored glove on her other hand to further mask it.
  • Heal Thyself: Heals over time when at critical HP, once per battle.
  • Historical In-Joke: Two to her historical counterpart's namesake.
    • Her prosthetic hand is a reference to how Prince Luigi Amadeo lost a few of his fingers to frostbite during an expedition to Franz Josef Land.
    • A quote she has as secretary states that she likes mountaineering, something that was very much true of Prince Luigi Amadeo.
  • Holy Halo: Inexplicably has some sort of black halo with pink highlights and spiked protrusions. It's even present in her bikini skin! Makes you wonder if Yostar accidentally approved this design for Azur Lane instead of Blue Archive.note
  • Overly Long Name: Her full name, Luigi di Savoia Duca degli Abruzzi, is such a mouthful that it can't fit in any of the game's typical name textboxes. And she expects a Full-Name Basis! Fortunately, she permits you to just call her Duca degli Abruzzi, but no further.
"My name is Luigi di Savoia Duca degli Abruzzi. You find that too hard to memorize? Then you may shorten it to Duca degli Abruzzi, but no less than that. My dignity won't allow it."
  • Royals Who Actually Do Something: Carries herself with noble dignity, and believes wholeheartedly in Noblesse Oblige, leading from the front.
  • Square Race, Round Class: Despite being a Light Cruiser, her statline and skill set combine to give her stronger torpedoes than the majority of Destroyers in the game. She is currently the strongest non-IJN torpedo specialist in the game, save for perhaps Marie Rose.
  • Takes One to Kill One: Not only is she very adept at using torpedoes as mentioned above, but her skill set also reduces torpedo damage taken by your vanguard and even puts up torpedo-stopping shields at low health.

Giuseppe Garibaldi

"Is everyone doing well? Now, let's put our hands together for the port's latest arrival – light cruiser Giuseppe Garibaldi of Sardegna! ...Oh, Commander? I was just updating my shipgirl profile... And that does it! Who am I? Didn't you just hear me say Giuseppe Garibaldi?"

  • Foolish Sibling, Responsible Sibling: While equally as proud of her status as a dignitary, she's much more carefree than Abruzzi, and much less strict regarding manners and etiquette.
  • Historical In-Joke: When sailing alongside (an assumably retrofitted) An Shan or Chang Chun, she compliments their rigging, which is a nod to the real Giuseppe Garibaldi's post-war conversion into a guided missile cruiser following her reactivation into the Italian Navy.
"Sweet rigging. I want one like that."
  • Intimate Marks: Her initial artworks by Ohisashiburi—even her official cameo in Abruzzi's swimsuit skin art—has her sporting a tribal tattoo spanning from her left breast to her abdomen. This ultimately did not make it into her final design, as Ohisashiburi removed it supposedly due to complaints from the Japanese community. If anything, one could be led to believe that she wore a very impressively designed temporary tattoo.
  • Refuge in Audacity: Her reaction in her Special Touch line is more shock at the fact she was touched at all then the touching itself.
  • Valley Girl: Her speech is rendered like this in the English version.

Heavy Cruisers (CA)

    Trento-class

Trento

Voiced by: Sakura Nakamura

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/trentoshipyardicon.png
ID: No. 414
Rarity: Rare

"I am Trento, first heavy cruiser of the Sardegna Empire, here to help out. I'll support everyone in my own special little way, so please do look forward to that, Commander♪"

  • Cuddle Bug: In Zara's side story, she delivers The Glomp to the Commander as thanks for "introducing" her to Sakura Empire food from the cafeteria. She even pulls Zara in to thank her for helping Carabiniere make a new friend.
  • Expy: She's a dead ringer for Camilla from Fire Emblem Fates in terms of design, personality and background.
    • In terms of design, both are busty Ms. Fanservice girls with similar long purple-blue hair, which covers one eye note .
    • In terms of personality both are the Cuddle Bug type that shower the player character with affection, though Trento is a genuine Nice Girl without a catch other than being a bit ditzy, and while Camilla can be nice and ditzy too, she can lapse into Yandere territory.
    • In terms of background, both serve Empires and are one of the "heavy" units you field in the game note .
  • Marshmallow Hell: During the third part of Zara's character quest, Trento buries both Zara and the Commander in her quite sizeable chest as thanks for previous things they'd done for her.
  • Nice Girl: Her primary defining character trait is that she is this, and unlike a lot of other shipgirls, there's no catch, no Yandere tendencies or whatnot... she's just genuinely kind and caring, and makes sure to look out for the well-being and her fleetmates. Even if you mistreat her she still believes that you can change ways and be better. If you give her a special touch, she's more worried about you becoming unpopular with other girls rather than surprised or angry by you touching her inappropriately. In her swimsuit skin, a special touch as her instantly forgive the Commander, believing he's just caught in the moment.
  • Sibling Yin-Yang: Trento is warm and playful, compared to her cold and serious sister.

Trieste

Voiced by: Sakura Nakamura

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/triesteshipyardicon.png
ID: No. 542
Rarity: Elite

  • Berserk Button: Trieste is annoyed by what she sees as "desecration" of Sardegnian cuisine.
  • Big Eater: Enjoys eating as indicated by her Juustagram post and some of her Secretary dialogue, especially if it is Sardegnan cuisine.
  • Does Not Like Spam: While she dislikes any sort of Sardegnian cuisine being "desecrated", her distaste for pineapple pizza is one of her most prominent dislikes.
  • Sideboob: Her top is designed such that it only covers the front and back, which means a very generous amount of sideboob.
  • Sergeant Rock: She's a strict and highly efficient disciplinarian, which makes her a shoe-in for her role as quartermaster for the Sardegnan Fleet. While this shows in her role as secretary, she softens up occasionally if the Commander is visibly exhausted.
  • Sibling Yin-Yang: Trieste is rather cold and serious, compared to her warm and playful sister.

    Zara-class
  • Historical In-Joke: Their slightly too-tight and stretched outfits are a nod to the fact that much like the Takao sisters, they were heavily overbuilt in real life and far out grossed their "listed" tonnage. In her Seaside Coincidence skin, Pola wonders out loud if her bikini is too tight.
  • Ms. Fanservice: Both of them wear small, tight-fitting clothes that hide little to none of their impressive bodies. Furthermore, their Live2D outfits are tight bikinis and the animations focus on common fanservice areas (breasts for Zara, hindquarters for Pola). Zara is more of a Shameless Fanservice Girl, being the tease and practically shoving her breasts to the Commander and offering to teach him how to swim to get closer, with Pola's swimsuit skin then including a Continuity Nod that the Commander did in fact learn from Zara. Pola herself however is more of a Reluctant Fanservice Girl, threatening the Commander for ogling her rear and sideboobs, but also wants him to spit out that he's crushing on her while she poses seductively.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: Zara is ironically the Blue Oni despite having red hair, being more of the The Tease to the Commander and flirting with him in a more suggestive manner and in terms of gameplay, tends towards Mighty Glacier. She also speaks with a lower pitch. Pola is the Red Oni despite having Blue Hair, speaking with a more aggressive higher pitch and in the case of her swimsuit skin, is more of a Tsundere, swapping between berating and threatening the Commander for ogling her while also posing suggestively and hoping he's looking. Pola might also tend towards support, but her signature Viola Spear nudges her more towards offense.
  • Sibling Yin-Yang: A little. They have very different hair colors, with Zara being a redhead and Pola having purple hair. While they both have Live2D bikini skins, Zara's are focused on her breasts, while Pola's is focused on her butt. Their skills have some contrast with Zara having more focus on defense while Pola focuses on offense more.

Zara

ID: No. 413
Rarity: Super Rare
Artist: Yunsang

"Ciao. It's a pleasure to meet you, Commander. I'm the heavy cruiser, Zara, and I look forward to bringing victory and glory to your fleet."

  • Cool Big Sis: Is this towards Pola. She even notes in her "friendly" affection dialogue that Pola is quite sensitive and that even the Commander wouldn't be forgiven if they did any harm to her
  • Deflector Shields: She can create a pair of shields upon receiving an attack, with one spinning around her and the other staying at a fixed position in front. Note that it triggers by "receiving an attack", meaning that it can even trigger from missed attacks.
  • Does This Remind You of Anything?: As if her bikini skin wasn't Fanservice incarnate from her looks alone, touching her will occasionally cause her to very suggestively slide her hand up and down the ladder rail.
  • The Fashionista: She claims to have an eye for fashion, and even offers to help tidy up the Commander for their dates, possibly as an allusion to the apparel retailer with the same name.
    • In her side story, it is implied that she helped Carabiniere pick out her "Refreshing Sundress" for meeting up with a new friend.
  • Marshmallow Hell: In her secretary mission chain. Almost immediately after Trento subjects both her and the Commander to this, Zara does the same to the Commander and then asks which was better.
  • Mighty Glacier: Her unique Deflector Shields have an incredibly good activation rate because of its generous conditions and lack of cooldown, which coupled with her good firepower (and a skill that gives a boost regardless of ammo type), being a gunboat by default and that at least one shield will always be fixed in front means that Zara is an extraordinary tenacious tank, being one step above the sterling Portland Retrofit and arguably a step below the mighty Roon as a tank and in oil cost.
  • Reused Character Design: She strongly resembles Honolulu from the Eagle Union, as both are drawn by the same artist. The resemblance is so strong that they could pass off as twins if one wear the other faction's uniform.
    • Both even have a Live 2D Beach themed skin as well, which look suspiciously similar to each other, only at different angles.
  • The Rival: Algerie and Zara are this to each other, In one of her Sortie lines with Zara, Algerie suggests chance to compete to see who's better. This is reference to Algerie being built in response to the Zara-class cruiser heavy cruisers. Both of them are also very well-endowed Heavy Cruiseirs of their navies, wearing very fanservice outfits, both of them have swimsuit skin.
  • Sibling Team: With Pola, who she is never too far away from.
  • The Tease: Personality wise, she is this to Commander, especially in her "normal touch" lines. Her swimsuit CG skin takes it even further, as several of her lines openly teases the Commander, with one of the animations has her stroking the railing of the steps of the pool while talking to him.
  • Two-Person Pool Party: Zara's bikini skin is pretty much themed around this, as while we don't see it happen since the Commander obviously remains He Who Must Not Be Seen, she makes it all too obvious that she's flirting and throwing herself at him. She even teases him with high enough affection that her "swimming lessons" are so much more. Her sister Pola would later have her own animated bikini skin at the beach which clearly takes place sometime after the interactions with Zara's bikini skin, since the Commander (inaudibly) tells Pola that Zara taught him how to swim in a Continuity Nod, with Pola's suspicious and jealous facial expressions making it evident she at least suspects that the Commander and Zara really make love at the pool.

"I'm Pola, heavy cruiser from Sardegna. And you're the commander of this fleet? I see. Well, don't let me down, okay? Hehe."

The fourth ship of the Zara-class heavy cruisers. Obtainable on the rerun of the Empyrean Tragicomedy event.

  • Big Sister Worship: Fawns over Zara to the point where she, in her own words, "can't take [her] eyes off her." If you special touch Pola, her primary concern is not for her own body, but the possibility that you've been doing it to Zara too. Though she can competitive with Zara over the Commander's affections, her Valentine's day gift lines imply that she's okay with sharing him.
  • Clingy Aquatic Life: In her Seaside Coincidence skin, starfish cannot seem to keep themselves off of her. As you might expect from this game, their primary attachment points are on her boobs and her butt.
  • Clingy Jealous Girl: Implied in her facial expressions in her bikini skin when the Commander (inaudibly) tells her that Zara taught him how to swim, given that Pola clearly suspects a Two-Person Pool Party was a part of her sister's lessons. Given how suggestive Zara herself is with the Commander in her bikini skin about her "swimming lessons", Pola can't exactly be blamed; if her affinity is also at like level, she'll ask which of the twins the Commander likes more. It's subverted if she gives you a Valentine's day gift, as her quote refers to how she wants the Commander to enjoy her and Zara's chocolate.
  • Historical In-Joke: Two for the Battle of Cape Matapan.
    • Her low HP line has her say her turret won't move, a reference to when a hit from a British airstrike's torpedo disabled her power systems.
    • She says being enveloped by a searchlight makes her uneasy, since several ships sent to rescue her (including Zara) were sunk after the British illuminated them, and she was too before being sunk by HMS Nubian.
  • Impossible Hourglass Figure: Pola’s Live2D summer skin, much like her sister, focuses on her in a tight bikini. In contrast to Zara though, Pola’s skin seems hellbent on showing just how shapely her enormous rear and thighs are.
  • Reused Character Design: It's justified that she looks like Zara in almost every way except hair color, given that the're a Sibling Team.
  • Sibling Team: With Zara, and one of her skills encourages it as it reduces all damage Zara-class ships take, something Zara can appreciate.
  • Support Party Member: Zigzagged as while she's able to buff frontline Italian ships' Firepower and anti-air and reduce the damage she and her sister take, her "Viola Spear" proc rate is boosted by 20 percent (so 70 percent at lv10)if she has two other Italian ships with her.
  • Tsundere: Swaps between threatening the Commander in her bikini skin for sneaking up on her from behind to, posing suggestively with the expectation for him to reveal his feelings.

"Ahh, we finally meet, my dear Commander. Yes, I am Sardegna's heavy cruiser Gorizia, your one true– Uh, excuse me? Aren't you supposed to say, "Gorizia, I've been waiting so long for you" right about now?!"

  • Early-Bird Cameo: She was first mentioned in one of Bolzano's voicelines almost a year before she debuted.
  • Foil: To her sisters Zara and Pola. Whereas the duo have more forward personalities and are otherwise aggressive in their interactions with the Commander, Gorizia is shier and more reserved, usually expecting the Commander to act first. This is addressed in one of her lines if sailed with either of her sisters in combat.
  • Longing Look: She has a tendency to gaze at the Commander "princessly" in an attempt to attract their attention.
  • Tsundere: Described as being a bit of one.
  • Vapor Wear: Her base outfit very heavily implies that she does not wear underwear.

    Conte di Cavour-class

Class-wide Tropes

  • Historical In-Joke:
    • Their demeanors reflect their namesake's proficiency and preferences. Conte's namesake was noted to be the better politician of the two while Caesar was considered the better leader in battle.
    • Guilio's desire for rematch against Warspite stems from her being the one that Warspite landed that famous long distance shot against and she came close to returning the favor.

"I am the dreadnought, Conte di Cavour. There is much I can do for you, Commander, but that depends on whether or not you are trustworthy."

  • Foil: To Giulio Cesare, who is more brash and pragmatic.
  • Older Than They Look: Sardegna's first entry for the group. Conte is rather notably shorter than Littorio, and in some ways looks younger than her... but she was lain down in 1910, first touched water in '11, and was fully operational by the time the Italians joined the first World War in 1915. Littorio, meanwhile, had been commissioned all of four days prior to the beginning of the Battle of France, and hadn't even been laid down until 1934!
  • Tomboy and Girly Girl: She herself asserts that she's on the tomboy end of the scale compared to, well, most of the other shipgirls (though she doesn't use the term "tomboy" itself). She does, for example, outright state that she has no interest in dresses whatsoever (which is perhaps both a lampshade on her being the only Sardegnan to debut without a skin, and contrasts with, say, Carabiniere, who will still try out a sundress on the advice of others).

"I'm Giulio Cesare, battleship of the Sardegna Empire. Prove to me your talent in commanding a fleet!"

  • Foil: To Conte di Cavour, who she finds to be stiff and overly formal.
  • Historical In-Joke: The reason Giulio Cesare is seeking a rematch with Warspite? Cesare was at the receiving end of Warspite's long range record for a gunnery hit.
  • The Rival: She has an intense sense of rivalry with Warspite... which is much like Zuikaku and Enterprise; it feels a bit one-sided as the event doesn't have Warspite take that much notice of Cesare, and Warspite didn't have any voice lines added for Cesare specifically. Cesare herself is absolutely bent on getting a rematch, though.
  • Shout-Out: Her MVP line "Veni, vidi, vici (I came, I saw, I conquered)" was uttered by her namesake, Julius Caesar.

"Greetings, Commander. I am Andrea Doria, Sardegna Empire battleship. I'm honored to be working with you."

  • Cool Big Sis: How she sees herself and her role as a kansen.
  • Gender-Blender Name: Andrea is a man's name in Italy (it was once anglicized as Andrew), but not in much of the rest of the world.
  • Leg Focus: It's hard to tell in-game because of cropping, but she has very long legs. In her default appearance they seem to make up about 3/5th of her body.
  • Named After Someone Famous: Genoese admiral and statesman Andrea Doria.
  • Ojou Ringlets: The two parts of her hair that are at both sides of her neck curls into ringlets. Andrea Doria herself is rather ladylike in demeanor.
  • Older Than They Look: She's the same battleship generation as Queen Elizabeth and Warspite, and acts the part as a wise and experienced senior to her fellow Sardegna ships.
  • Sexy Slit Dress: She wears one, fitting the Leg Focus of her design.
  • Sexy Stewardess: Her first alternate skin turns her into this.

    Vittorio Veneto-class

Class-wide Tropes

  • Sibling Team: Vittorio Veneto and Littorio are the headliners of the Imperial Sardegnian Navy, though it is Vittorio Veneto who is flagship and the lead ship in her classnote .

Vittorio Veneto

Voiced by: Mamiko Noto

Rarity: Super Rare
Artist: Yunsang

The personification of the battleship of the same name and name ship of her class. Similar to Iris Libre's Richelieu from the Iris of Light and Dark event, Vittorio Veneto made her debut appearance as an NPC in the Empyreal Tragicomedy event before being added as a playable character in the later Daedalian Hymn event. She is a leader of the Sardegnian Empire and flagship of the Imperial Navy.

  • Attention Whore: Subverted in the animated trailer for Daedalian Hymn. When relaxing in her bikini and posed like a supermodel, someone who is very likely the Commander given that it's from an anonymous first person perspective, snaps a photo of her, and this time it's to her surprise as opposed to a constant request like with Surcouf. Rather then get captivated by her own beauty like Littorio upon looking at the photo he took, she is more happy that the Commander took it for her at all.
  • Damage-Increasing Debuff: "The Eternal Flagship" skill normally lets Vittorio Veneto fire a special barrage for lots of damage, but if it doesn't, a random enemy ship will take increased damage for a few seconds as compensation.
  • The Ditherer: She admits during the event that she often finds herself to be overly hesitant when it comes to diplomatic and military matters, and is thankful that she has Littorio that she can count on.
  • Foil: To her sister and fellow leader Littorio, where Vittorio is more hesitant and speaks with a calmer voice as opposed to the unabashed ego of the former.
    • She is also strangely one to Surcouf regarding their mannerisms with swimsuit skins. Both of them are animated and feature them posed like supermodels in their very revealing bikinis with a camera on them. Whereas Surcouf fondles herself and asks the Commander to take photos of her as per an Attention Whore routine (though it doesn't stop her from being a Nice Girl), Vittorio's camera remains by her side and is only used on her in the trailer where the Commander clearly took the photo on his own volition and her surprise while in game she takes a photo of him instead. Vittorio's lines are also more about basking in the moment and while she doesn't fondle herself, her thighs and breasts are so big they draw the Commander's attention anyway.
    • To Richelieu and Bismarck. The three are all faction leaders, but their relationships with their respective sisters couldn't be more different. Due to colliding beliefs Richelieu's and Jean Bart's relationship is distant, sometimes outright antagonistic. Bismarck's and Tirpitz's is non-existent; they've never even met before. While Littorio is Vittorio Veneto's closest confidante and, for all the bluster that she should be leader instead, someone she can trust implicitly.
  • Innocent Fanservice Girl: Despite her supermodel looks and pose in her very revealing bikini skin, Vittorio really isn't an Attention Whore trying to get the Commander's attention like her sister Littorio, and really appears to have no idea that her slightest movements cause her big breasts to flop about everywhere. Instead she just talks casually to the Commander about their time together, all the while taking photos of him. Even the photo the Commander takes of her in her trailer is treated as an innocent thoughtful surprise instead of an opportunity to bask in her good looks.
  • The Leader: Of the Sardegna Empire, though she shares this role with Littorio.
  • Only Sane Man: She doesn't stand out in personality, thus appears "normal" compared to Littorio's overblown ego or Impero's Cloudcuckoolander way of thinking.
  • Red Baron: She's known as "The Eternal Flagship".
  • Shameless Fanservice Girl:
    • Subverted to Reluctant Fanservice Girl unlike Littorio on her base skin, where she chastises the Commander if he gropes her breasts. After marrying her however, it's double subverted as she makes an exception and giggles very suggestively if the Commander gropes her again.
    • Also subverted in her bikini skin, but this time to Innocent Fanservice Girl. Despite lounging about in a tiny bikini that causes breasts to flop everywhere with the slightest little movement, and making comments for the Commander to sun bathe with her, she genuinely isn't an Attention Whore and wants to spend quality time with him, seemingly oblivious to the effect moving her chest and shapely legs has.
  • Support Party Member: Provides an array of buffs to ships in the Sardegna Empire faction with her Eternal Light of Sardegna skill. Those wanting to get the most of it should therefore go into missions with ships from the same nation. Banner of Splendor meanwhile reduces debuffs torpedo damage on the entire fleet for the first three battles.
  • Weight Woe: Seemingly so in her swimsuit skin despite her supermodel looks. Headpatting hernote  will cause her to pinch a bit of her own belly fat that was all but nonexistent before she touched it. She grimaces and emits flying sweat drops as she does this, suggesting she is really hurting herself trying to get what little bit she is pinching, is overly self-conscious about such a tiny amount of fat, or both. She has no spoken lines mentioning it, leaving her opinion on it ambiguous. On the other hand, the animation the player sees upon purchasing the skin has her trace her finger on her tricep, showing her soft skin giving way to it, and this is seemingly played for titillation on her part.

Littorio

Voiced by: Shizuka Itō

ID: No. 410
Rarity: Super Rare
Artist: Gujianshaov

"Rejoice, Commander! For you have gained an indomitable ally in Littorio, but more importantly... let's put a smile on that cute face of yours."

  • Ambiguously Bi: While her attraction to the Commander need not be called into question, she is also in many ways a notorious skirt chaser, with some of her flirtatious behavior being directed towards Veneto or any of the Illustrious-class sisters.
  • Best Her to Bed Her: A version that involves the battle of egos instead of outright combat, as her eventual oath with the Commander has her wonder how he could be worthy enough to place a ring on her, and asks him to break down his success.
  • Cool Big Sis: With her charismatic and eccentric personality, even Veneto often wonders who the big sister in the relationship is.
Littorio: "That Veneto, she's not half bad for a fleet flagship... However, if she wants to move forward, she must learn from me. Hahahaha!"
  • Deflector Shields: Rather uniquely for a battleship, she can deploy shields for herself and the front-most vanguard ship which will block torpedoes, but only at the start of a battle.
  • Devotedto You: In her dress skin she says that Commander tastes like " unlabeled bottle of fine riserva" that makes girls to be possessive over him and even she is no exception, It might overlap with Clingy Jealous Girl
  • Fanservice Pack: Her "Calabria Aurea" formal skin definitely cranks up the sex appeal. She's lounging on a couch like a scene from a romance novel, wearing a dress that's halfway between a ballgown and lingerie, her even more generous assets barely covered, a glass of wine in hand and a rose between her teeth. She even wonders if the commander is there to challenge her to see who can romance the most girls.
  • Foil: To her sister and fellow leader Vittorio Veneto, as Veneto is more hesitant and speaks with a calmer motherly voice as opposed to the unabashed ego of Littorio who speaks with a more boisterous tone. In their swimsuit skins, Littorio deliberately grabs at the Commander's attention while unabashedly flaunting her own beauty. By contrast, Veneto just lounges around and talks to the Commander casually and is more interested in him to the point where seems to enjoy taking pictures of him, with her tiny swimsuit and voluptuous body still clearly grabbing the Commander's attention anyway.
  • Gathering Steam: Inverted. Her "Sardegnian Discipline" skill raises her firepower for the first 3 battles she participates in in a sortie, meaning that she drops down to her base firepower stat after fighting enough times rather than get stronger.
  • Hidden Buxom: An odd case—she isn't exactly lacking in the upper deck department in her standard attire, but her party dress, on the other hand, gives her a chest on par with Taihou's.
  • Hidden Depths: Despite her massive ego, she does have some moments of humility:
    • Her disappointed line has her apologise to the Commander, saying she only wanted to push the Commander in the right direction, but feels that all she did was impede their progress.
    • One of her secretary lines has her admit that the age of battleships has ended, being surpassed by aircraft carriers.
    • Most of her affection lines have her be extremely supportive of the Commander, and she's genuinely quite nice to them, despite her ego.
  • Historical In-Joke:
    • Her inverted Gathering Steam effect is likely a reference to the very short barrel life of her cannons, which achieved extraordinary muzzle velocity at the cost of having about half the barrel life of other countries' 15-inch guns. This trade-off was likely motivated in real life by Italy's particular naval circumstances as an almost purely Mediterranean power; Italy could always be reasonably confident of access to advanced port facilities where maintenance like barrel changes could easily be performed, while the various other navies could expect to be away from good ports for much longer due to long Pacific patrols (US, UK, France, and Japan) or long Atlantic surface raiding patrols (Germany), and thus favored more conservative ballistics that gave much longer barrel lives.
    • Her personal gun in Azur Lane is also one of the best AP gun available for battleships and battlecruisers, a nod to its real life counterpart, despite its smaller caliber compared to guns from other nations, being praised to be one of the best naval cannons ever mounted on a battleship, with performance nearly on-par with top dogs like 406 mm MK7 gun (mounted on Iowa-class battleships) and 460 mm gun mounted on Yamato-class battleship, albeit only lose to them in term of deck armor penetration (due to higher muzzle velocity, thus flattened its flying arc somewhat. With such a muzzle velocity, the gun barrel would wear down pretty quick, reflecting in-game by having its reload timer increased after three main gun salvos.
  • Hopeless Boss Fight: Littorio during The Flame-touched Dagger event, in which she and her fleet arrive to intercept Foch and Algérie. While she is actually quite defeatable gameplay-wise, the cutscenes prior to and following the boss fight show that Foch and Algérie skirmished with Littorio while beating a hasty retreat, with Foch herself noting that they didn't stand a chance against the Sardegnan battleship.
  • It's All About Me: With all the narcissist tropes surrounding her this it's not surprising that she considers herself the main Romanticized Hero with the two types of people in the world being her and not her. If the Commander gets her affection high enough, she acts like he was the one who was pinning for her the whole time instead of the opposite.
  • Narcissist: To her, all roads lead to Littorio, though this is downplayed if she feels that it's pushing the envelope, as mentioned above. As her affection for the Commander rises, she deems their affection to be increasingly worthy of her.
  • Out-Gambitted: She pretended to cooperate with the Royal Navy's request for a joint Siren hunt (itself a Royal Navy attempt to foster more friendly relations with the Sardegnian Empire) with the intention to weaken their defenses around Malta Island, betray the Royal Navy convoy and eventually capture the whole Mediterranean Sea. However, her plot was seen through from the beginning and what ends up happening is that the Empire gets attacked by surprise instead, which has significant long-lasting consequences for Sardegna, including the historical Littorio being temporarily put out of commission by a submarine torpedo.
  • Pride: She is extremely egotistical, viewing herself as the greatest battleship ever created. One of her lines has her lament that there are so many places in the world that "yearn for light", but there is only one of her.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: The passionate and charismatic red to Veneto's more serious and hesitant blue.
  • Small Name, Big Ego: Has an ego the size of a planet, and is not shy of flouting it. But for all her bluster, bravado and self-agrandising, Sardegna is pretty much a non-entity in the larger conflict, and the Royal Navy are not shy of letting her know it.
  • Something about a Rose: She's often seen holding a rose, and her barrage skill is called "Rosa Bombardamento" or "Rose Bombardment". Her special Augment equipment is a sparkling rose as well, fittingly named Incanto ("Enchantment"), and upgrades the aforementioned barrage skill.
  • The Pornomancer: Littorio claims that she gets more letters than the player character. It might be just Littorio being full of herself considering her ego.
  • There Are Two Kinds of People in the World: According to her, there's those who are Littorio, and those who are not.
  • Villain Protagonist: She's one of the primary point of view characters of "Empyreal Tragicomedy"... and it's a story of how she arranged a plan to backstab the Royal Navy and have Sardegna seize control of the Mediterranean, only to have the whole plan blow up in her face.
  • Wrong Genre Savvy: Thinks she's The Hero and the object of affection of all the Ship Girls and Commander. In reality, her faction is minor in the grand scheme of things, and it's really the Badass Normal Commander who is the hero and draws the affections of Ship Girls, herself included.

"I am Roma, the inheritor of Romulus' will. Commander, Protector of the Seas, Guider of the Port, Leader of Our People – how would you like me to address you?"

  • A Spy at the Spa: Implied. She mentions enjoying Sardegna's thermae like her sister Impero, noting how it also makes people let their guard down and let their secrets slip.
  • The Conqueror: She seeks to "enlighten the world with [her] splendor" and spread the glory of Sardegna.
  • Cultural Posturing: While all the Sardegnan ships display this, it's most pronounced with Roma.
  • Historical In-Joke: Her low HP line has her ask where her legions are, referencing Emperor Augustus' alleged words after the disastrous Battle of the Teutoburg Forest.
  • My Greatest Second Chance: The real Roma ultimately didn't accomplish much during her short service life (only about a year) which Roma herself mentions in her introduction, as well as being grateful to the Commander for summoning her.
"Sadly, I did not get to enlighten the world with my splendor during the war. You've given me a second chance, and for that, I'm in your debt."
  • Third-Person Person: Refers to herself as Roma in a manner reminiscent of Romulus in several of her lines.

Marco Polo

"I hope you know what you're in for, now that you've awoken me. Hehehe... You look to be a commander of valor and culture. Magnificent! I am Marco Polo. Now, come! Our first order of business is to spread the Sardegna Empire's glory through the world!"

  • A God Am I: During the events of The Fool's Scales.
  • Artifact Domination: Possible. With the revelation at the end of The Fool's Scales that the Crown of the Holy See had been replaced by a Siren fake exactly how much of the event was Marco Polo's genuine will becomes ambiguous.
  • Alice Allusion: The end of her scepter is evocative of the Queen of Hearts. Then all subtlety about the allusion was tossed overboard with her first paid skin outright being named "The Queen of Hearts."
  • Church Militant: She looks as if she could be Sardegna's stand-in for The Pope with her fancy mitre and cross scepter. In Tower of Transcendence, particularly in the Chinese version of the script, her story counterpart explicitly mentions she is with the Holy See. The epilogue of Rondo at Rainbow's Edge reveals she seeks the relics in order to both undermine Richelieu and gain even more power, and this culminates in The Fool's Scales where she actively tries to summon a (false) God into the world.
  • The Conqueror: She'd certainly be one if she were in the Commander's position. Much of her affinity progression voice lines have her baffled that the Commander doesn't use his positively enormous navy to do so.
  • Cool Crown: Wears a stylized black and red mitre. In The Fool's Scales she upgrades to the stolen Crown of the Holy See.
  • Determinator: Never stops thinking about how she can spread Sardegna's glory and expand its territory. This translates to combat, in that she has a reduced penalty for being out of ammunition.
  • Disney Death: At the end of The Fool's Scales, she is declared sunk and lost by Sardegna Empire, but it's likely she was actually rescued by Clemenceau, as mentioned by Littorio.
  • Et Tu, Brute?: When she realizes Clemenceau was never really on her side she is genuinely hurt.
  • Foil: To Richelieu. They're both religious figures with contrasting color schemes, not to mention Marco Polo is clearly plotting something in the shadows, including getting her hands on the Iris Libre's treasures.
  • Hellish Pupils: They're shaped as the compass rose.
  • Historical In-Joke: Unsurprisingly, she has a few with her namesake.
    • Her second skill is named Il Milionenote , which was both one of the man's nicknames and the name of his memoir in Italian.
    • She mentions that she has many stories to tell about the Dragon Empery. She's not kidding about the "many" part — Polo spent an impressive 17 years within the borders of China, serving as a diplomat to Kublai Khan for many of them.
    • She wants you to be her Rustichello—the man who actually wrote down Polo's tales into book form. And then she asks you to "omit her mistakes." The Travels is known for being a little... hard to believe at points, even at the time the book was published. Whether Polo, Rustichello, or both were the ones exaggerating is up for debate.
  • Ineffectual Sympathetic Villain: Only Ineffectual because others plays her as a fiddle, including Clemenceau, who Marco Polo originally saw as an ally, and ultimately got her ass handed to her by the combined efforts of all fleets, under the guidance of the Commander. The Sympathetic part comes from the fact that no one really defers to her when they got to choose between her and Vittorio Veneto, leading her to resent the latter. Veneto even comments that maybe Marco Polo would not have acted like that had she been more sympathetic towards her.
  • Kneel Before Zod: Demands this of her opposition when she fires her special barrage.
  • Maniac Tongue: One of her facial expressions has her stick out her tongue...revealing that it is forked. It is ultimately downplayed, because while she is scheming to undermine Richelieu and would qualify as "evil" (or at least "antagonist"), she is relatively sane and thus not a "maniac".
  • Naughty Nuns: Well, an outright Naughty Pope in this case. But if the discarded items beside her in her "The Queen of Hearts" skin are any indication, some of Marco's lingerie is very daring, such that even a game as fanservice-heavy as this one couldn't get away with showing her actually wearing it.
  • Obviously Evil: The more she was seen in in-game events, the more came across as untrustworthy, leading to the events of The Fool's Scales.
  • The Resenter: Towards Veneto, reaching a head in The Fool's Scales when she openly complains about the other Sardegnian ships deferring to her despite her declaration of being in charge during the emergency. She gets so annoyed at Aquila invoking Veneto's name that she actually hangs up on her.
  • Sarcastic Devotee: Outright states that she thinks she'd make a better Sardegnan flagship than Veneto, and it's implied she'd be happy to take your position as Commander. Seems a little of Littorio's ego rubbed off on her. As of one of the stingers of Tower of Transcendence though, she appears fully ready to incite conflict with Iris Libre in Vittorio's absence by attempting to steal their holy relics. Her willingness to perform acts of aggression while Vittorio is not there to stop her upgraded her to Sinister Minister at best and outright Starscream at worst, which eventually leads to the events of The Fool's Scales where she outright attempts a coup.
  • Shout-Out: Her Stranger affinity line has her bring out her inner DIO. And this is no invention of the localization team—she uses essentially a feminized version of DIO's memetic line in the Japanese version.
"Oh? You're approaching me? Instead of keeping me at arm's length, you wish to get to know me? Then by all means... Hehehe!"
  • Sinister Minister: As seen both in Tower of Transcendence and Rondo at Rainbow's Edge, where she's clearly plotting something.
  • The Starscream: She drops all pretense and outright moves to take control of the Sardegnian fleet from Veneto in The Fool's Scales, but no one believes her.
  • Super Prototype: As with all Research ships. In World of Warships, Marco Polo is essentially a slightly altered Littorio-class, with the chief difference being 406mm gun batteries instead of 381mm.
  • Support Party Member: The first of her kind to have a cross-fleet faction buff, although that only engages if the other fleet is on their third or fourth battle. Otherwise, she has a cross-fleet barrage.
  • Villainous Breakdown: After realizing Clemenceau was never on her side and that her plan is literally falling out from under her.

"Good day to you, my Commander. I'm Aquila, aircraft carrier from the Sardegna Empire. Our meeting today is no mere coincidence. No, it must be a gift from Fortuna herself, I'm sure of it."

  • Carry a Big Stick: She carries a large cane in her default skin, and uses it to whack the Commander should she get down to "Disappointed" affinity.
"My Commander, are you still alive? ...Well, if I keep doing this, I'm sure you will come back to your senses...! *thwack*!"
  • Cloudcuckoolander: Her Establishing Character Moment in Daedalian Hymn has her spacing out while deploying her planes, and needing to be told a second time by Vittorio to recall them.
  • Combat Medic: If Aquila has a fighter equipped in her second aircraft slot, she can heal the most-damaged (percentage-wise) ship of both the vanguard and main fleets.
  • Foil: To Graf Zeppelin; both are Crimson Axis carriers whose real-life counterparts were never completed, were both based on the data of Akagi shared by the IJN in real life, have sister ships that were abandoned mid-construction (time will tell if Aquila's sort-of sister Sparviero will be released in the game) and at the time of their introduction were the only carriers for their faction in Azur Lane. However, Graf Zeppelin is bitter & cynical, and is focused almost entirely on offense while also having a massive HP pool for a carrier (the highest HP of any gold CV, in fact, and only beaten by Shinano in absolute terms). Aquila is a Nice Girl, has a Stance System she can use to switch between a healing support setup and a more offensive-oriented one (with the former generally considered more useful), and while she's not excessively vulnerable, she's still on the squishy end for a fleet carrier. Her Juustagram post in the Daedalian Hymn event pretty much shows this contrast when Aquila invites Zeppelin to her tea party.
  • Hidden Buxom: She's this based on regional censorship, as the Chinese version of her bikini skin conceals how busty she's shown to be in uncensored Western and Japanese character art. Even her base skin in general doesn't fully let on how buxom she is until you put her in a swimsuit.
  • Humble Hero: Not one to blow her own trumpet, she feels she still has much to learn before she can be spoken of in the same breath as Vittorio Veneto or Littorio. She does get called out on this tendency, insofar as doing it nonstop will make her come across as insincere.
  • Nice Girl: Well-mannered, demure, and helpful- Aquila easily qualifies alongside Trento as the nicest Sardegnian shipgirl. Not even groping her gets her angry:
"My Commander, I do apologize, but... may I refuse this kind of behavior...?"
  • Not the Intended Use: The Carrier Detection mechanic introduced in late 2020 gave her a role in PvP fleets similar to Perseus. Having one airstrike preloaded at the start of the fight all but completely guarantees that any enemy carriers will be detected within seconds of the fight starting. This reduces their damage output tremendously and opens them up to Vittorio Veneto and New Jersey's powerful shelling and barrages.
  • Proper Lady: Called as "Sardegna's courtly young lady" in her secretary questline.
  • Stance System: Her second skill switches between support-oriented with Combat Medic capabilities if she equips a fighter in the second slot, or a combat-oriented kit with a faster airstrike reload, a single pre-loaded airstrike, and a buff to damage.

A Carrier Conversion of the Vittorio Veneto-class battleship.

  • Artistic License – Ships: The real-life Impero of the Regia Marina never saw active service as it was never completed. Construction delays as a result of security reasons, alongside a drastic shift in shipmaking priorities towards smaller vessels capable of fulfilling the role of merchant escorts left her, at most, with a partially completed hull and engines, alongside a modest loadout of small caliber anti-aircraft and anti-surface weaponry. Following Italy's surrender to the Allies, Impero was seized and partially sunk as a target ship by the Germans. Also, there's the matter of her class - while Azur Lane has made a trend of referring to speculative converted vessels by the name of the class they were originally intended to be built as, such ships are generally referred to elsewhere as new classes, and thus Impero would normally be referred to as Impero-class rather than Vittorio Veneto-class.
  • Beware the Silly Ones: If you actually do get her in a state where she is ready for combat and not rambling something about food or baths, she becomes rather domineering and is quick to anger.
  • Cloudcuckoolander: She thinks in...interesting ways. The very first thing we see her talk about is her idea of loading spaghetti into her planes, both to keep it warm and to potentially use it as a form of ammo. Having a few submarines and planes named after seafood enter her field of vision (such as the Fairey Albacore) gets her into a trance-like state of listing every fish she can think of, regardless of whether or not they are the namesakes of weaponry. She proposes building a slide from the Commander's office window all the way to her dorm room. And the list goes on.
  • Inverse Law of Complexity to Power: Her second skill has taken the crown of longest skill description in the game, with every word after its first sentence dedicated to her "HP equalization" ability that shuffles HP around your backline, which can be actively detrimental in some cases due to its randomness and due to some ships performing worse as they take damage (such as Friedrich der Grosse). But most players are going to level it for that first sentence. Why? It gives her +15% damage at all times.
  • Kneel Before Zod: Not only does she demand her opponents kneel, but she even tells the Commander to!
  • Messy Hair: Goes with being both lazy and an oddball. It's implied that the Commander loves to muss it up and play with it.
  • Mood-Swinger: She'll swap between "sleepy weirdo" and "angry carrier of the Vittorio Veneto-class" and back in no time.
  • Necessary Drawback: When equipped with dive bombers, she will gain a 60% damage buff for 5 seconds when her second airstrike finishes loading. Not when it launches, but loads. Savvy players might think to save her first airstrike until she loads the second one, then launch both at once so that they both benefit from this damage buff. Sadly, the devs must have realized this might be a bit too strong, and gave her the hangar space for only 1 airstrike at a time.
  • No Nudity Taboo: Implied with her suggestion to spend the duration of a tea party inside a bathtub, and she seems to have no qualms inviting the Commander to join her while bathing—even at Stranger affinity. It should be noted that, at least in the English translation, she uses the word "bathtub" specifically rather than a larger public bath, such as the thermae that would not be out of place in Sardegna.
  • NEET: Between her inability to stay awake for long, her propensity to chug Oxy-cola and lounge in the bath constantly, and her unkempt appearance, she gives off the vibe of being one.
  • Sleepyhead: Quite fond of dozing off whenever the opportunity arises. Her eyes never seem to be more than half-open at any given moment.
  • Stance System: Her first plane slot can equip either fighters or dive bombers. The former will cause her to load her first airstrike more quickly, while the latter causes her to get a beefy 60% damage bonus when she loads her second airstrike.
  • Unkempt Beauty: Her disheveled hair and half-asleep countenance only serve to make her cuter.
  • Womanchild: Another interpretation based on how wild her dialogue is.

"You've gotta be the commander... My name is T-Torricelli, here to claim this room for myself... Don't worry about me, I'll just be sitting in some quiet corner... Hehe, hehehehe..."

  • A-Cup Angst: She admits that her chest is rather undeveloped compared to many other shipgirls, and apologizes if that disappoints the Commander.
  • Affectionate Gesture to the Head: Enjoys when the Commander rubs her head quite a bit, prompting her to beg for more.
  • Animal Lover: Appears to be quite smitten with a turtle she finds on the beach in her summer skin. Although it could also be her simply empathizing with another living creature that retreats into its shell when threatened.
  • Creepy Loner Girl: Fits the look and the personality to a T. She tends to actively shun the company of other shipgirls and would rather stay holed up in her or the Commander's room in the dark. But, naturally, she makes an exception to her loner habits when the Commander is involved.
  • Expy: She looks quite a bit like a palette-swapped Hex Maniac wearing a one-piece swimsuit.
  • Hair Antennae: So much so that, in her summer skin, she opts for a sun hat with the very top cut out, just so they can continue sticking up in all their glory.
  • Hikkikomori: Dislikes both interacting with other shipgirls and performing any of her duties, both of which require her to leave her comfort zone of being in her dark room away from others. The Commander can slowly but surely start bringing her out of her shell.
  • The Hyena: Constantly trails off into laughter.
  • The Nose Knows: Can apparently identify when the Commander has returned to base by scent alone.

Heya, Commander. I'm the Sardegnian submarine Leonardo da Vinci, but you can just call me da Vinci. Now that I'm finally here at the port, I hope every new day is a wellspring of inspiration!

  • The Ace: Historically she was the top scoring non-German submarine of the entire war (in terms of gross tonnage).
  • Companion Cube: She treats Canguro as a cross between this and a pet.
  • Gadgeteer Genius: Like her namesake, she's a skilled inventor and announces she has made a mechanical spaghetti winder, a little lion that produces a flower when you press on it, and an automatic seal stamper in several of her voicelines.
  • Historical In-Joke: Her use of Canguro to lay mines is a reference to her planned use of a CA midget class submarine to lay explosive charges in New York harbor.
  • The Tease: She teases the Commander by saying she's made a body pillow with her image in a raunchy pose on it for him and then laughing when he thinks she's serious. She then says she'll make one for real.
