Light Cruisers (CL)

     The Nagara-class

Nagara

Voiced by: Akari Kitou

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/nagara.png
ID: No. 182
Rarity: Normal
Artist:

"Ehehe, I'm Nagara. Commander, were you hoping to see me?"

  • Nice Girl: Very kind and her upset line has her worried about the commander (you)
  • Verbal Tic: Tends to giggle in her sentences.

Isuzu

Voiced by: Akari Kitou

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/isuzu.png

Isuzu (Retrofit)
ID: No. 183
Rarity: Rare
Artist:

"Wuah! Th- that scared me...so it was the Commander. I'm Isuzu, you're not here to bully me are you......"

  • Art Evolution: Her retrofit art, to the point she verges on You Don't Look Like You.
  • Crippling Overspecialization: She's the Japanese version of Atlanta, thus sacrificing surface combat capabilities for very strong AA. To the point one of her limit break upgrades is "AA mount+1"
  • Fanservice Pack: Beyond the art evolution listed above, puberty hits Isuzu like a freight train after her retrofit. Starting out as a somewhat disheveled kid wearing conservative oversized clothes, her retrofit turns her into a tall and slender young woman wearing a midriff-baring sailor fuku that that properly fits her, makes her once hidden curves apparent, and shows long legs clad in thigh-highs. In-universe the commander seems so surprised upon completion that she has to ask if she really looks that different.
  • Hidden Buxom: Downplayed, but her alternate skins shows that her normal outfit hides some decent curves.
  • Rare Random Drop: 7-3 any node but with a lower rate than what her rarity would have. To compare how hard she is to find, it's easier to get Gold Battleship retrofits than it is to get her by trying to farm for her on Hard Mode.
  • Took a Level in Badass: Her refit art shows her with surprising confidence and a combat leaning pose. But she's still at heart the same Isuzu.
  • Took a Level in Cheerfulness: her Christmas skin shows her smiling in a few expressions, a step up from her nervous/frightened ones.

Kinu

Voiced by: Sayuri Yahagi

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kinu.png

Kinu (Retrofit)
ID: No. 186
Rarity: Elite
Artist: Werkbau

"I'm Kinu. If you want this demon to do your bidding, then you'd better show me what you're capable of!"

  • A-Cup Angst: Downplayed, but she's not happy how she still loses to Nagara in femininity.
  • Bifauxnen: Particularly in her retrofit outfit.
  • Katanas Are Just Better: Swords are an integral part of her design, and attitude, and will even carry a wooden practice sword in alternate skins.
  • Oni: Two small horns, though they're normally hidden by her hat.
  • Stab the Scorpion: In her character quest, she seems like she's ordering the Commander around and is going to attack but is actually trying to get a wasp off his head.

Abukuma

Voiced by: Akari Kitou

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/abukuma.png

Abukuma (Retrofit)
ID: No. 187
Rarity: Normal
Artist:

"Hi, Commander... I'm Abukuma. What are you looking at? My horns? Don't mistake me for Kitakami or Oi..."

Yura

Voiced by: Ruriko Noguchi

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/1280px_yura.png

ID: No. 185
Rarity: Elite
Artist: Unknown

Um... Would you happen to know where the Commander might be? My name is Yura, and I have just arrived here today. Are you the Commander? Um, do you have a signed note or certificate that corroborates that?

     The Yuubari-class

Yuubari

Voiced by: Yui Ogura

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/yuubari.png

Yuubari (Retrofit)
ID: No. 179
Rarity: Elite
Artist: Yumesaki Kaede

"I'm Yuubari, the light cruiser. Master, you say you've seen me somewhere before? Mmpf… th-that's impossible… I shouldn't have any sisters…"

  • Experience Booster: Boosts Cruiser experience, a nod towards her experimental status.
  • MacGyvering: Her refit skill has her toss together some sort of prototype item in the heat of battle, producing a number of random results; some less beneficial than others, but none directly harmful.
  • Mad Scientist: Assists Akashi in various experiments, being a nod to her own highly experimental status. Her retrofit skill directly references this. She's even more of this than Akashi, given her plain disregard of safety, because she believes that any rewards comes with risks.

     The Sendai-class

  • Animal Eyes: They all have vertical slit pupils.
  • Animal Motifs: Foxes. The three Sendai class ships all have fox ears and tails.
  • Cool Big Sis: Both Sendai and Jintsuu are this to Naka.
  • Rare Random Drop: Sendai drops in 11-3 (any node) and Jintsuu drops in 10-4 (Boss node only). Naka's the exception being the lowest rarity ship in the 'Crimson Echoes' event banner.
  • Support Party Member: Given they were used as leading ships of torpedo raid teams with Destroyers in history, they all have buffs that increases CL and DD torpedo damage and loading. Powerful ones at that. Jintsuu's skill can also overlap with Sendai's/Naka's, resulting in very powerful buff multipliers.

Sendai

Voiced by: Tomoyo Chuujou

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sendai.png

Sendai (Retrofit)

ID: No. 308
Rarity: Rare
Artist:

"I am the first ship of the Sendai class, Sendai. Even though I am no match for my sister, I was the flagship of the Third Torpedo Squadron. I participated in many campaigns, the last one being at Bougainville Island. In the end, I don't have any regrets as a warrior."

  • Bare-Fisted Monk: Invoked as a motif. Sendai loves fighting with her bare fists. The bandages on her hand are meant to protect them when she fights. After retrofitting, she finds she don't even need the bandages anymore.
  • Cultured Warrior: Very much so. She might take up half the page if we are to include all her quotes.
"Commander, who do you think is our biggest enemy? The Sirens? I feel that our biggest enemy is ourselves."
  • Damage-Increasing Debuff: After retrofitting, Sendai gains the ability to shoot flares into the sky, which decreases enemy dodge in a area for a fixed period of time.
    • Combine this with Sendai's personality this very much invokes the image of exposing a hiding or running enemy in order to beat them to a pulp.
  • For Great Justice: Although her means are brashful, Sendai lives to uphold justice. She also hold the same standards up to herself, leading to lots of introspection.
  • Glass Cannon: Sendai has both powerful firepower and torpedo power for a light cruiser, but goes down quickly under concentrated fire.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: Red to Jintsuu's blue. Also counts as Sibling Yin-Yang. While Jintsuu is calm and calculated in her approach to combat, Sendai is hot-headed and quick to resort to using raw power.
  • Rousing Speech: Gives you the most Shonen manga love speech ever if you oath her.
Commander, before receiving this, I would have just left if you did not remain faithful to your ideals. However, if you forget your ideals now, you had better clench your teeth. Punches filled with love and anger are very painful.
  • Sibling Rivalry: Averted. Although Sendai and Jintsuu differ in many ways, they hold each other with great respect. In fact, when entering battle together, Sendai will ask Jintsuu for strategies.
  • The Fettered: Sendai holds herself very seriousily to her standards of justice, to the point she actively fears she might one day forget her own principles.

Jintsuu

Voiced by: Hisako Kanemoto

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/jintsuu_2.png

Jintsuu (Retrofit)
ID: No. 309
Rarity: Elite
Artist:

"The battlefield changes every second; only when one stays cautious and cool-headed, can one stand undefeated - has the Commander achieved this already? Flagship of the Second Torpedo Squadron, Jintsuu - greetings to you."

  • Badass Bookworm: A brilliant strategist in character, and widely regarded as one of the best light cruisers in game.
  • Brains and Brawn: Have this motif going on with Sendai. The two's skill sets even compliment each other nicely.
  • Combat Hand Fan: Averted. The fans she hold are not for fighting. She saves them for strategizing......and dancing.
  • Cultured Warrior: Comes with the strategist motif.
"If cautiousness is perceived as a weakness, then should we view ferociousness as recklessness?"
  • Glass Cannon: Similar to Sendai, Jintsuu also has both powerful firepower and torpedo power for a light cruiser, but lacking in defence.
    • Her retrofitting invoked the Dying Moment of Awesome of her original ship, giving her a 20% damage reduction buff and further buffs to fleet torpedo damage, thus turning her into a Lightning Bruiser instead.
  • Know When to Fold 'Em: When things turn sour(sortie defeat), She will not hesitate to retreat to avoid unnecessary sacrifices.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: Blue to Sendai's red.
  • Sibling Rivalry: Averted. Although Sendai and Jintsuu differ in many ways, they hold each other with great respect. Jintsuu sometimes would admire the straightforwardness of Sendai.
  • Silk Hiding Steel: Complete with the paper fan hiding her expressions.
  • The Strategist: Wise, cool, and calculated in all situations. She handles management of the fleet with remarkable ease when assisting you. If you disappoint her with your abilities, she won't even bother confront you, but would instead secretly seize command over the fleet and have you out doing something else out of the way in one swift move.
  • Think Nothing of It: Jintsuu credits her fellow ships when she scores an MVP in sortie.

Naka

Voiced by: Konomi Fujimura

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/naka_3.png
ID: No. 310
Rarity: Rare
Artist:

"I am the 3rd ship of the Sendai Class, Naka. Due to an earthquake, I was finished much later than my sisters, and I didn't have much service record as the flagship of the 4th Destroyer Fleet. But that's fine, I will continue to work hard with my sisters as the end goal, till I surpass them!"

  • Big Sister Worship: Deeply admires both of her sisters, and aspires to become like both of them.
  • Hot-Blooded: Mild-mannered but enthusiastic about everything she does, especially training. She will find some training to do whenever spare time is given.
  • Kid Sidekick: When sortied together with her sisters. She is downright enthusiastic about it.
"I wish to shine as much as my sisters too!"
  • Sibling Rivalry: Downplayed, Naka wants to become even better than both her sisters, but striving to do so is shown to be an extension of her admiration for them, not hostility or envy.
  • Training from Hell: Not exactly hellish, but the training schedule Naka gives herself every day is very, very intense.
  • To Be a Master: Naka strives to improve herself and become as great at both brains and brawn as both of her sisters specializes in them, and one day become even better then them.

     The Mogami-class

  • Temporary Online Content: They were available exclusively from the re-run of the Visitors Dyed in Red event. Any player that missed this run of the event or were unable to obtain them during the events are out of luck, as they were not added to the construction pools following the event being archived, and do not drop in the archived event because they were not drops in the first place. With the January 8th update in the Japan/China, Mogami was added to Light Construction, with Mikuma following suit in February. They would also be added to the EN version for the April 16th update.

Mogami

Voiced by: Shizuka Itō

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mogami_0.png

Mogami (Retrofit)
ID: No. 188
Rarity: Elite
Artist: realmbw

"Mogami, reporting in. You don't need to care about me, you can just put me somewhere and ignore me."

  • Early-Installment Weirdness: Originally designed as a catgirl, but later redesigned as a single-horn oni.
  • Heroic Self-Deprecation: Perhaps based on trouble in her ship life, she has very little self-esteem in herself and tends to belittle herself, unaware that upon refitting she's easily one of her nation's strongest Heavy Cruisers.
  • Oni: Styled after one.
  • Prestige Class: Fully remodeling her changes her ship class from Light Cruiser to Heavy Cruiser, trading in one torpedo capacity for an additional gun mount, effectively making her a Gun CA that can occasionally fire torpedoes.
  • Stripperiffic: Upon retrofit, Mogami loses her short, but decently covering skirt, trading it for a strip of metal running along her waist and a strip of black cloth coming down from her top. Upon almost any pose, her ass is certain to be fully exposed.
  • Survivor's Guilt: Implied in regards to Mikuma, since their collision during the Battle of Midway ultimately doomed her sister ship. Though both took damage, Mogami was able to limp back to port but Mikuma ultimately sank after repeated harassment from Hornet's dive bombers and took most of her crew with her.

Mikuma

Voiced by: Anna Yamaki

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mikuma.png
ID: No. 189
Rarity: Elite
Artist: realmbw

"I am Mikuma, Mogami's sister, if you ever meet sis, please look after her, sis's personality is a little bit...awkward."

  • Artistic License – Ships: Like the other Mogamis, she was laid down and spent the first few years of her career as a light cruiser before undergoing substantial rebuilding that changed her classification by the time of the war. In game she calls herself a heavy cruiser but is still classed as light. Only time will tell if she receives a retrofit and class change like her older sister.
  • Big Sister Worship: Downplayed but she does show concern for her older sister.
  • Born Unlucky: Has a 13 luck, reflecting the circumstances of her sinking as well as how she was the first heavy cruiser Japan lost during the war.
  • Early-Installment Weirdness: Originally designed as a catgirl, but later redesigned as a single-horn oni.
  • Oni: Styled after one.

Suzuya

Unlike Mogami and Mikuma, Suzuya starts as a Heavy Cruiser. Refer to her Heavy Cruiser section for more details.

     The Agano-class

Agano

Voiced by: Haruka Shiraishi

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/agano.png
ID: No. 321
Rarity: Elite
Artist:

"Are you the Commander? I am Agano. Pleased to meet you. *giggle* ...Sorry, it's nothing. I look forward to serving in the fleet."

  • Declaration of Protection: If she sorties with Nagara, she'll seriously state that she'll protect her this time.
  • The Gadfly: She really likes messing with people, especially the Commander. Her higher affection lines have her admit she likes toying with the Commander because she finds it interesting. She also likes to mess with Noshiro.
  • Miko: Her original outfit seems akin to this, notable as she doesn't seem to have horns (Unlike Noshiro) or animal traits.
  • Verbal Tic: Just like Nagara, she has a tendency to giggle in her lines.

Noshiro

Voiced by: Anju Inami

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/noshiro.png
ID: No. 322
Rarity: Super Rare
Artist: ATDAN

"I'm the new arrival, Noshiro, second ship of the Agano-class, reporting for duty. Let's do our utmost to prove our worth to each other, shall we?"

  • BFS: She has a nodachi in her rigging.
  • Breakout Character: By far the most popular character introduced in the Swirling Cherry Blossoms event, in no small part due to her artist's dedication to drawing in-game art and fanart of her regularly. 2021 alone saw her get an oath skin and three premium skins! She was also featured alongside Z23 — one of the game's mascots as part of the Starter Squad — on an officially-licensed body pillow cover sold as part of the JP server's third anniversary. It sold out in less than a day.
  • The Comically Serious: Similar to Suruga, her generally serious attitude often leads to funny situations.
  • Dual Wielding: In addition to the nodachi, she has a katana and a wakizashi which she sometimes pull out in her animation.
  • Foolish Sibling, Responsible Sibling: The Responsible sister to Agano.
  • Funbag Airbag: The login screen for her beach skin starts with a manjuu that's been caught by a seagull, which then drops it. The hapless majuu seems bound for imminent doom but is saved when it lands safely on Noshiro's bosom.
  • Hidden Depths: Sakawa notes in her post-oath lines that Noshiro has intense feelings for the Commander but is usually too serious to demonstrate them properly. Apparently she also gets quite jealous if she ever hears about Sakawa hanging out with the Commander.
  • Kimono Fanservice: Her Uncharted Festival Grounds? skin has her wearing a red one to a festival. A tame example of the trope.
  • Lightning Bruiser: Unlike Jintsuu, she is like this from the start without retrofit. She has high gun and torpedo power, including a self buff against enemy carriers, vanguard crit rate and torpedo buff, that combines with an evasion Rate (which is superior to any evade stat buff) self buff that also decreases vanguard torpedo damage, and still retaining the speed of a light cruiser. Even better, her torpedo buff applies to the entire vanguard, not just light cruisers and destroyers, which means Ibuki benefits.
  • Oni: Unlike Agano, she is obviously an Oni with a pair of horns.
  • Support Party Member: She has similar buff like Jintsuu, but has the advantage of being able to buff Heavy Cruisers as well. In addition gunboat cruisers still gain some benefit due to her critical hit buff not only affecting torpedoes.

Sakawa

Voiced by: Aina Suzuki

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sakawawithoutbg.png

ID:
Rarity: Super Rare
Artist: ATDAN

"I'm Sakawa, Agano-class light cruiser♪ And you're the Commander? I see~ I get why Noshiro is so into you. I am, too!"

  • BFS: She wields a nodachi similar to Noshiro's.
  • Bodyguarding a Badass: According to the Violet Tempest, Blooming Lycoris event, she serves as the principal retainer to Musashi.
  • The Gadfly: While she is generally friendly and kind, she knows how to push people's buttons when the situation calls for it. As a result, she can be a bit of a tease towards the Commander. Also, much like her sister, Agano, she likes to poke fun at Noshiro.
  • Love at First Sight: She's rather taken by the Commander upon meeting them.
  • Oni: She sports a pair of short oni horns, which just barely pop out of her hair. An oni can also be seen looming over her in her classic skin artwork.
  • Strong Family Resemblance: She's a sword-toting oni wearing matching uniforms with her sister Noshiro, with the difference being her shorter horns, hair bow, and red-white color scheme.
  • Smug Smiler: One of her emotion panels has her with a smirk on her face.
  • Sweet Tooth: She is very fond of Sakura confections, dango most especially.
