Hero Regulation Department

    Izuku Midoriya — Apotheosis

The Villain Protagonist and Big Bad of the story. Izuku Midoriya was once a hero fanboy who was bullied and discriminated against because he was Quirkless. Having dreamed all of his life of becoming a hero, his hopes are crushed when his idol, the Number One Hero All Might, claims that his dream is impossible and that he should give up on it. This moment finally pushed Izuku over the edge and put him on the dark path to villainy.

  • Above Good and Evil: He initially rejected the title of hero, calling himself a villain, but after finishing the Infinity Gauntlet, he decides he's neither. He later classifies himself as a revolutionist rather than a villain.
  • Adaptational Intelligence: While canon Izuku is far from dumb, this Izuku is basically a super genius, to the point that many Heroes thought he had a quirk revolving around his intellect. Not only was he smart enough to replicate quirks and to recreate the Infinity Gauntlet, but he can also run circles around the likes of Aizawa, Yaoyorozu, All For One, and even Nezu.
  • Adaptational Villainy: From an upcoming hero and the next symbol of peace to a dangerous supervillain who plans on remolding society in his own vision.
  • Affably Evil/Faux Affably Evil: This is zig-zagged case, it all depends on the situation and the individual he is interacting with. There are times where Izuku interacts and comes off as a genuinely nice fellow. Other times, his politeness is nothing but a facade which hides the dogmatic and calculative mind.
  • All Crimes Are Equal: For Izuku, there is no quarter — he doesn't care about how many cases you complete, how many villains you capture, or how popular you are. If you aren't a hero for the right reasons and/or don't measure up to his very strict moral standards, he'll De-power you and kick you out of the hero system. However, for those whose crimes are less severe (like attention-seeking), if you prove that you've learned your lesson and changed, he'll give you back your Quirk and reinstate you.
  • Anti-Villain: A mixture of the well-intentioned and woobie variants. While this Izuku is utterly driven to create an ideal hero society, there are still many hints that the old Izuku — the one who wanted to help people and be a hero — is still in there.
  • Arch-Enemy: To All Might and Katsuki Bakugo, although this is rather one sided in All Might's case.
  • Became Their Own Antithesis: From a hero fan boy that idolized All Might to a villain that despises hero society and All Might in particular.
  • Benevolent Boss: To his Knights of Balance. Izuku regularly trains with them, aids them with their personal issues, and extends this to their families and loved ones as well. He’s also very approachable when they question his motives, and holds no ill will against them, swearing to respect their choices even if they decided to leave his employ.
  • Berserk Button: Justified, being a victim of being bullied, he hates it when the strong picks on the weak.
    • Do not look down on or pity him. As someone who was seen as weak and useless for the entirely of his life, Izuku hates it when his opponents don't take him seriously as a threat. Even when All Might nearly defeated him during their second battle, Midoriya was more pissed off that All Might still refused to take him seriously.
    • Bakugo's very existence is this. Izuku is exceptionally vicious and condescending to the other boy when they interact.
    • Do not harm children in front of him. Izuku blatantly threatens Bakugo should the latter harm the children in his community service, and Overhaul gets a horrific Family-Unfriendly Death when Izuku finds out what he did to Eri.
  • Boomerang Bigot:
    • For as much as Izuku preaches against Quirkless discrimination and hates people like All Might for, intentionally or not, playing into their suffering, Izuku is shown to not have a very high opinion on the capabilities of Quirkless people himself. He uses the threat of de-powering to keep heroes in line, and while this could have just been a pragmatic attack against a world that values Quirks above all else, it's later shown that Izuku legitimately doesn't understand why anyone would want to remain Quirkless and that he fully believes that having your Quirk taken away is a near Fate Worse than Death. Izuku is also shown to laugh at the idea that Heroes such as Mt. Lady, Endeavor, and even All Might could threaten him in anyway after they were rendered Quirkless, something that is very reminiscent to how Bakugou treated Izuku when they were kids.
    • This exchange during Izuku's second battle against All Might, while seemingly referencing Izuku's previous naive personality, implies that Izuku does believe that he would be completely worthless without the Infinity Gauntlet.
All Might " You know, you still have a chance to be a hero. All you have to do is take off that gauntlet and surrender. You can put a stop to all this Midoriya."
Izuku "Take off my infinity gauntlet? And go back to being a quirkless, useless Deku?"
    • Near the end of Chapter 37 when Mirio was willing to shield Eri from a quirk-erasing bullet and thus sacrificing his own quirk. Izuku chastise's him on such a decision which he thought was foolish. Even asking him how he was going to save anyone while quirkless, ironic considering everything he's done in the story was to show that the quirkless aren't useless and can be heroes too.
Izuku "So how exactly were you planning to save anyone without your quirk Lemillion?"
  • The Chessmaster: He's ten steps ahead of everyone, and they don't even know what game they're playing yet. Not even Nezu, who has a super-intelligence Quirk, has been able to out-plan him.
  • Confusion Fu: This is a major reason as to why he's so powerful, and why the heroes have been unable to beat him. The sheer versatility, power, and combinations of what Izuku can pull off with his gauntlet make him extremely difficult to fully counter.
  • The Corrupter: To Ochako and Shoto. Jury is still out on Tenya, but for now, it's subverted with him.
  • Cruel Mercy: His modus operandi. With the power the Infinity Gauntlet grants him, he could quite easily kill the heroes that don't live up to his standards, like Stain. Instead, he humiliates them, takes their Quirks, and kicks them out of the hero system, allowing them to live so they can watch him change the world, completely powerless to stop him.
  • Death Glare: He only shows this whenever any Pro Hero is around, mostly All Might and Bakugou.
  • Death or Glory Attack: Izuku can use 100% of the Infinity Gauntlet for, thus far, a massive punch, capable of completely overpowering All Might. However, he can't use that level of power again for a while after the initial strike, as doing so would destroy his body and leave him vulnerable.
  • Determinator: To Izuku, there is no such thing as failure. There are only setbacks to an eventual success.
  • Drama-Preserving Handicap: Part of the deal made for his government position, is that Izuku can only intervene openly in self-defense or if a situation has escalated past the points that the heroes and Titan robots can handle. He is however, secretly circumventing this to maintain control...
    • As of Chapter 38, the past users of One For All are forcefully disabling the usage of the Power Stone, robbing Izuku of an important and large part of his power. While Izuku can overpower the users, it requires a chuck of his focus and will to do so.
    • Chapter 43 reveals that while Izuku can stack and mix quirks with the Soul Stone, using more than 3-4 simultaneously can cause him injury from overload.
  • The Dreaded: As of Chapter 24, Izuku has established this status among the heroes. Chapter 35 reveals that other villains like Overhaul are also extremely cautious of him.
  • Driven by Envy: It's heavily implied that his anger towards people who are born powerful and/or got everything they needed handed to them on a sliver platter is part of the reason as to why Izuku became Apotheosis. Given his hatred for All Might and Bakugou, on top of his constant resentful talks towards quirk based society as whole, it's all but outright said.
  • Even Bad Men Love Their Mamas: Inko is the only person besides Ochako that Izuku truly cares about.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: Even though he hasn't said it out loud, he cares deeply for Ochako and sees her as a friend and possibly more.
  • Even Evil Has Standards:
    • For as much as he enjoys taking away the quirks of "false" heroes, he is very uncomfortable with the idea of taking away quirks from innocents or those he doesn't think deserve such a punishment, even if the quirk itself is doing nothing but harm to the user.
    • He is completely disgusted by Overhaul's child abuse and is reduced to silent fury when he is forced to return Eri to the man. He also states during his battle with Overhaul that harming an innocent child is a line he will never cross.
    • He is furious when Dabi projects his hatred of Endeavor on Shoto and nearly turns a training exercise lethal.
    • Word of God states that during his meeting with Mitsuki regarding about Katsuki, Izuku has some reservations about hurting Mitsuki but this is clashed with his hatred against Katsuki. Hence he Took a Third Option by choosing not to physically harm Katsuki but mentally destroy him by taking away his quirk.
  • Even Evil Can Be Loved:
    • In spite of everything he has done, his mother still loves and supports him despite her reservations about his methods.
    • It is strongly implied that Ochako is in love with him. Ultimately, her lingering feelings for him helped drive her to his side after she was expelled from U.A.
  • Evil Laugh: Izuku engages in this a lot following the completion of his Infinity Gauntlet. He gives an epic one when he completely destroys All Might's image as a hero.
  • Expy:
    • Izuku taking on a more villainous role after being rejected by his idol, as well as constructing robots to aid in his plans makes him rather similar to Syndrome/Buddy Pine from The Incredibles. There's even a part in one of their fights similar to Mr. Incredible's first encounter with Syndrome, where the hero apologizes to the villain for how he treated them, only for said villain to argue that the hero is only apologizing because it led to them becoming a threat.
    • He is also an obvious one for Thanos, considering he now has constructed an Infinity Gauntlet replica.
    • The fact that he is a Villain with Good Publicity who is, for the most part, making positive changes over the society he mostly took over while still being opposed by the heroes could also make him one towards Dr. Doom.
  • Fatal Flaw:
    • Pride. After completing the Infinity Gauntlet, Izuku very clearly allows the power to go to his head, resulting in the boy gaining a massive ego. While Izuku is, for the most part, able to keep his ego in check during important battles and events, he still thinks himself to be near invincible and dismisses how large of a threat someone is to his authority and power, whetever it be in the short term (The students at Raxas Junkyard), or the long term (Dismissing All Might and Bakugou after the battle at Coruscant Stadium in spite of capturing neither).
    • Stubbornness: While his status as a Determinator and refusal to give up definitely helped Izuku win, he completely believes that he, and only he, knows how to fix society and what ways to take in order to do so. As such, Izuku shuts out any complaints about his methods or the ways he took to get to his postion in the first place, believing everyone not on his side to be a naysayer at best or a "false hero" at worst, no matter how many tell him that his ends do not justify his illegal, violent means.
  • Friendly Enemy: Zig-Zagged. Izuku is ruthless towards those he deems fake heroes and All Might. However, he's nothing but affable and even sociable towards aspiring heroes, (even villains) his own age. He's more liable to sit down and discuss societal and hero issues with them, (such as with Iida and Ochako), encourage them when it's clear they have deep issues (Todoroki and Dabi), and congratulate them when they show values that he believes true heroes should have (Kirishima).
  • Friend to All Children: He's great with children, especially towards those who are quirkless, having been in the same situation as they were. When he learns about Bakugou assigned to teach the children, Izuku warns him and Aizawa that, should Bakugou harm them, he won't hesitate to rob his quirk.
  • From Nobody to Nightmare: Izuku started off as a bullied Quirkless kid whose hopes and dreams of being a hero were crushed. One replica of the Infinity Gauntlet and fast forward a few months later, he's become the most dangerous villain in Japan since All For One.
  • Godhood Seeker: After finally finishing the Infinity Gauntlet and having his first taste of its power, Izuku decides he wants to be something greater than a hero — he wants to be the most powerful person in the world, someone who shapes the world by design. The name of such a person, nay, being? God.
  • Hypocrite: Izuku chastises Yaoyorozu for having a narrow world and morality view.. Later chapters show Izuku having similar views, believing everyone against him to be misinformed at best and outright villains at worst.
  • Invincible Villain: After he finishes his Infinity Gauntlet, Izuku is practically unbeatable. The gauntlet puts him on par with All Might and All For One, but both are in no position to stop him (and one of them doesn't even want to). Combined with cunning and intellect that surpasses both, there's no real way the heroes can see to defeat him.
  • Kick the Dog:
    • He allows Stain to kill Native. Seeing as there's nothing notably untoward about Native (much like Ingenium), it's the first sign of how twisted he's becoming.
    • Taking the Quirks of Uwabami and Mt. Lady for being Attention Whores. While that is behavior that needs to be corrected, it's hardly something that requires such a harsh response. To be fair, Izuku seemed to recognize that and unlike his other victims, offered them a chance to regain their Quirks and become heroes again by doing volunteer work and charity work. The two women tried to pay off the media to slander him instead.
    • His attitude towards Katsuki in general comes off as this. While it's true that Katsuki was mostly responsible for his horrible childhood, the amount of insults and spite he throws towards the boy is completely unnecessary.
    • His nonchalant attitude regarding Sir Nighteye's death is outright cold that Nice Guy Mirio assaulted him for it.
  • Lack of Empathy: Downplayed, in that he does feel regret over not being able to save him, but Izuku is shockingly callous towards Sir Nighteye after his death, even calling him an idiot for getting involved in the fight with Overhaul in the first place. To be far, Izuku does lack any attachments towards the hero and doesn't allow himself to get emotional over events he could not prevent, but his way of thinking is still stated to be wrong.
  • Never Hurt an Innocent: The biggest sign that the old Izuku is still in there is his complete refusal to harm innocents. Izuku goes out of his way to insure that bystanders are not harmed during his battles, holding back until they are evacuated, and shows clear discomfort towards the idea of doing anything that can harm an innocent, even taking away a parasitic quirk as doing so would leave them quirkless.
  • Pay Evil unto Evil: Izuku maybe a villain but several of the victims he brutalizes and humiliates actually deserves it.
    • He robs Pro Heroes of their quirks like Endeavor for abusing their powers and positions to harm others.
    • Him taking down villains is a good thing, especially those that have abused children.
  • Pet the Dog: There's still something of the old Izuku in him, and it pops up from time to time.
    • He saved Tenya from Stain. Mitigated by how he allowed Stain to kill Native afterwards.
    • His relationship with Ochako in general. Healing her while in the middle of fighting her and her friends, having his Titan robots guard her parents, hiring said parents' construction company to build his public headquarters...
    • While he was interested in Shoto because of his Quirk, one of the reasons he decided to help him with his issues is because he could see how miserable the kid was.
    • During the Training Camp attack, he turns on Muscular after he tries to attack poor Kota.
    • One of the first things he did after he became head director was to return home and greet with his mother apologizing for causing her so much worry and grief. He even has customized Titan units to guard her from any attacks, be it hero or villain.
    • He reopens Tensei's application for financial aid and approves it so he can one day walk again. He even plans on hiring scientists so they can advance the technology so he can continue hero work. And according to him, it's happening regardless of whether or not Tenya joins him.
    • While he was excessive in taking their Quirks to begin with, Izuku was willing to allow Mt. Lady and Uwabami the chance to regain their Quirks by doing volunteer and charity work, basically asking them to act like heroes should in his eyes. He had unilateral authority to remove their Quirks and absolutely no obligation to ever restore them as heroes, so the fact he made any effort to even consider undoing his discipline on them is shockingly generous.
    • He regularly visits and donates to organizations for quirkless and abused children, clearly empathizing with them. The children in turn, view him as their inspiration as he proves that the quirkless can be heroes as well.
    • He greatly appreciates and respects Best Jeanist, as the man was doing community service and visiting children to encourage them long before Izuku took over the hero system.
      • He also is surprisingly respectful towards Mirko, even slightly slipping back into his old personality when he asked her for her autograph. Given how her personality is extremely similar to Bakugou, this comes off as even more shocking than it normally would.
    • When Izuku realizes that class 1-A legitimately did not know about Bakugou’s horrendous bullying history prior to U.A., he genuinely apologizes to them for misjudging their character, and holds no ill will against them. He even becomes somewhat of a Friendly Enemy to Kirishima later on, calling him a true hero. He even offers Kirishima a place in the Knights of Balance.
    • Prior to his latest battle with All Might, Izuku makes sure that all the civilians are evacuated.
    • Despite his discomfort towards the idea, he willingly takes away a parasitic quirk from a civilian, with the implication that he will continue doing this to others. He then makes sure that the man receives physical therapy after the fact, insurance be damned.
    • He sees a lot of potential in Hitoshi Shinso to become a hero student, offering him tips for the types of support items he should use and even offering him more focused training and state of the art support items from the HRD.
    • His interactions with Eri. He genuinely wants to help her, encourages her, attends UA's culture Festival and engages in the activities, solely for the sake of making her smile.
    • Somewhat when Mitsuki begs Izuku to spare Bakugo his wrath. Izuku promises to use only necessary force to detain Bakugo and bring him in, and to reduce Bakugo’s sentence to a correctional facility where his parents can visit him. However, he makes it clear that one way or another, Bakugo will have his quirk taken away.
  • Portal Cut:
    • When Muscular turned on him during the mission to attack the U.A. Training camp, Izuku conjured up a portal and severed one of Muscular's arms.
    • Attempted again during his second battle against All Might, All Might however, was quick to act and withdrew his limb out before the portal closes.
    • A variation of this is used to break Toga out of police custody; he opens a portal in front of the police car she's in the back seat of and closes it when it's halfway through.
  • Revenge: The main thing that keeps Izuku opposed by the heroes even after they acknowledge his valid points about the flaws in the hero system is that this is a part of his motivation. He's not Necessarily Evil because his tearing down the broken system and false heroes is something he enjoys and his chance to get even with the world for crushing his dreams. He has other motives and stays relatively measured in his methods but several people recognize that he is thriving on the damage he's causing because of years of mistreatment from society.
  • Sarcasm Mode: While not quite a Deadpan Snarker, Izuku can be fairly sardonic at times.
Izuku launches an attack at Bakugo, only for Kirishima to tank the blast
Izuku "Huh? Look at that Kacchan, your boyfriend saved you."
  • Slowly Slipping Into Evil: Izuku was far from a saint at that point, but his killing of Overhaul seemed to firmly begin the boys decline from an Anti-Villain to a full out villain.
  • Start of Darkness: All Might's attempt to protect Izuku from the dangers of being a pro-hero seems to have backfired spectacularly as the lack of tact drove Izuku down the path of the dark side.
  • Take Over the World: His long-term goal is to become the Prime Minister of Japan, which will allow him to push through the laws he wants unimpeded.
  • Thou Shall Not Kill: At first, one of Izuku's standards was that he lacked the heart to directly kill someone, instead relying on others to strike the final blow. This is then completely thrown out the window when he brutally murders Overhaul and justifies it by dehumanizing him.
  • Tragic Villain: When it comes down to it, Izuku is just a scared child who wanted to be a hero and help people, more than anything else. However, years of rejection, culminating in his idol crushing his dream with words alone, caused him to snap and decide the best way to help people was to remake hero society into his ideal image — by any means necessary. Several people still see good in him and want to redeem him, but as far he is concerned, he's gone too far to stop now.
  • Troll: Loves to screw with and taunt his opponents if given the chance.
    • His reaction to Aizawa attempting to use his quirk on him to act like it worked, complete with a Big "WHAT?!", before admitting that he was joking and blowing the man away.
    • Fakes being impaled by Overhaul's attack... which has the effect of luring the villain in close so Izuku can attack him, mocking him for falling for the Schmuck Bait.
    • When told he has to leave his gauntlet at the security checkpoint for UA's culture festival, Izuku makes to remove the device, before telling the teachers to screw off.
  • Underestimating Badassery: Arguably the biggest reason why Izuku has managed to get as far as he has is because his opponents constantly underestimated him due to his Quirklessness. By the time everyone realized how dangerous he really was, he'd became too powerful to stop.
    • Ironically, Izuku himself begins to do this after he becomes the head of the HRD. He believes that, once he takes away a hero's quirk and kicks them out of the system, they are completely helpless to stop him. This is ignoring the fact that it was this attitude that allowed the boy to make it as far as he did in the first place. The biggest example of this is his dismissal of All Might and Bakugo, the latter of whom still has his quirk, and the former being friends with two individuals who are noted as being just as smart as Izuku and could find a way to counter his Infinity Gauntlet, those being David and Melissa Shield.
  • Utopia Justifies the Means: How Izuku justifies his actions — he believes all the terrible things he has to do will be worth it when he creates his perfect hero society. Not only that, he believes the world will eventually be thankful for it, because it will be history by the time he's done, and history is always Written by the Winners.
  • Villain Ball: Given that arrogance is one of his Fatal Flaw, Izuku occasionally finds himself in a bad situation because of his short sightedness.
    • Izuku, after defeating All Might a second time, doesn't put much effort in tracking him or Bakugou down, believing that the two now publicly disgraced Heroes had no hope of ever stopping him. Even ignoring how it was this dismissive attitude that allowed Izuku to win in the first place, All Might near instantly proves himself to be a massive threat to Izuku's regime thanks to David and Melissa Shield, who not only assist All Might, Bakugou, and Gran Torino in escaping Japan, but both have both the resources and intelligence to find a way to give All Might his power back and/or counter the Infinity Gauntlet.
    • In fact, Izuku seems to not care about keeping an eye on All Might's close friends and allies, the only exception being U.A and Nezu, despite each and every one of them having a ton of reasons to assist the man. This allows Sir Nighteye and Mirio to easily act as scouts and to potentially find weaknesses in Izuku's Infinity Gauntlet. It's likely that Izuku could have caught All Might had he been keeping tabs on I-Island instead of ignoring it.
    • The entirety of Izuku's second battle with All Might and the Raxas Junkyard battle has Izuku death gripping the Villain Ball, giving the heroes multiple opportunities to obstruct or even come close to beating him.
      • Recognizing that heroes could investigate the location, Izuku has someone guard the Soul Stone Forge in Raxas Junkyard while he fights All Might. You think Izuku hired a group of villain or even got the League to guard the Forge? No, he just has Himiko Toga guarding it. While Toga does manage to put up a fight against Ochako, she is completely overwhelmed when the other U.A students arrive, allowing them access to the Stone and leading to the Raxas Junkyard battle.
      • Despite having achieved his goal of exposing All Might and getting the Power Stone, Izuku decides to continue fighting All Might and his allies due to an understandable, but minor personal hangup. This gives All Might and his allies two opportunities to defeat Izuku, both of which came extremely close to working.
      • During the Raxas Junkyard battle, despite Izuku having more than enough power to knock out, or subdue, in Ochako's case, the students, Izuku instead plays with them and vastly underestimates their resourcefulness and intelligence. Sure enough, they manage to pin Izuku down and came within seconds of pulling the Infinity Gauntlet, which would have spelled the end of Izuku's planning then and there. Izuku himself comes to realizes just how idiotic he was being while trapped, and immendiately stops holding back once he gets free.
    • Humorously Lampshaded during the Culture Festival, in which Hound Dog attempts to get Izuku to take his Gauntlet off to enter the festival, which would be a colossally bondheaded move, to which everyone is surprised when Izuku seems to comply. However, Izuku was just screwing with the staff, asking them if they wished to learn the codes to his base as well.
  • Villain Has a Point: Part of the reason Izuku has so many supporters, despite being a villain, is because he makes very valid points about the hero society, even if some don't want to admit it. And one reason he's so hard for the heroes to take down is that they can't refute any of his arguments.
    • He's not wrong about how people only care about how powerful a hero's quirk is and not what kind of hero they are, even if they seem more villainous than heroic; The #2 hero was Endeavor, who abused his family horribly. After the Raxus Junkyard battle, Ochako was expelled, and Bakugo wasn't, despite the fact that Bakugo broke even more rules than she did. Izuku pointed out that U.A. wouldn't have even considered doing that for Bakugo if he didn't have such a powerful quirk and there was no risk that he would turn to villainy. Nezu doesn't admit it, but he also doesn't deny it.
    • When Mitsuki begs Izuku to forgive Bakugo and not to take away her son’s quirk in the future, Izuku calls her out on basically not wanting her son to face consequences for his actions.
  • Villain Protagonist: Izuku is still The Protagonist in this A.U. but he he is no longer a hero style protagonist.
  • Villain Respect: Less than savory personality traits aside, if you have shown the aspects of a true hero, Midoriya will respect, complement, and possibly even befriend you. The likes of Best Jeanist, Mirko, Kirishima, Tsuyu, and Yaoyorozu have all earned his respect so far.
  • Villain with Good Publicity: After he becomes the head of the HRD, the majority of the public is shown to be in support of him. In particular, the quirkless and those with impractical quirks adore him.
  • Who's Laughing Now?: A lot of people are really wishing they treated him better when he was younger.
  • You Could Have Used Your Powers for Good!: Several characters still see good in Izuku and want to pull him away from his path of villainy, hoping they can return him to the noble soul he once was. More shrewd characters like Nezu and Aizawa note that Izuku would likely have made an incredible hero even lacking a Quirk by merit of intellect and cunning and somewhat bemoan how such a bright mind chose villainy as his drive in life, all because of a stupid, tactless mistake on All Might's part.

The Knights of Balance

    General

Six of Izuku's direct subordinates in the new Hero Regulation Department, who have been specifically chosen by him to help him in his crusade to change hero society. Three of them are hero students who Izuku intends to train and debut as examples of what the ideal hero should be, while the other three are villains that will help him keep the darker side of society in line.

  • Balance Between Good and Evil: The inspiration for their name. The "heroes" are to act as paragons for society, representing Izuku's ideal hero as HRD-sponsored agents. The "villains", meanwhile, are to act as his agents in the underworld, keeping the villains in line so they won't take advantage of the current instability of the system.
  • Expy: Of Thanos's Black Order.
  • Light Is Good: The official outfits for the "heroes" have, for the most part, light and pleasing colors, primarily white, giving them an inviting and safe appeal. They are meant to be examples of Izuku's idea of "true heroes", after all.
  • Light Is Not Good: In spite of their outfits, the "heroes" side of the Knights, sans Tenya, are willing underlings of a dogmatic, twisted supervillain, and said individuals are more than ready to fight to the bitter end for his cause.
  • Quirky Miniboss Squad: In order to take down Izuku, the heroes will have to take them down first.
  • Shout-Out: Some of their Hero/Villain names reference certain Marvel characters.

Heroes

    Ochako Uraraka — Angel

A former student of U.A., who was wrongly expelled due to government interference after she tried to track Izuku down and accidentally dragged her and her friends into a fight against him. Before she was expelled, she met Izuku and befriended him, and after he was exposed as a villain, intended to find him so she could understand his motives and, hopefully, talk him out of his villainous path. After her expulsion, Izuku found her and convinced her to join him so she could have another crack at her dream.

  • Adaptational Villainy: From a completely good hero in training to an anti-villain who supports and works under a known villain.
  • Anti-Villain: Despite her loyalty to Izuku and willingness to do less than savory tasks for him, she is still training to be a hero, albeit one under the HRD.
  • Berserk Button: After seeing just how badly Izuku was treated for being quirkless, being bigoted has become a pretty major one for her.
    • Questioning Izuku's goals or calling him nothing more than a villain. Ochako sees the latter as being blatantly ignorant towards what Izuku is trying to achieve, while the former comes from her loyalty.
  • Broken Pedestal: Hero society in general has become this to Ochako after All Might's failed attempts to defeat Izuku. She is very wary of any hero that approaches her, especially those that speak out against Izuku.
  • Co-Dragons: With Stain. Both are by far the closest to Izuku on their respective teams, know of his plans in depth, and are clearly the ones Izuku trusts the most. They are also, in turn, the most devote towards Izuku's cause.
  • Disappointed by the Motive: After hearing Izuku's Motive Rant for the first time, she is initially in disbelief that what Izuku is doing can lead to any good. She very quickly changes her tone with a bit of explanation and manipulation from Izuku.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: While she agrees with the logic of it, she dislikes the plan of destroying All Mights' reputation, and clearly feels bad for him when Izuku succeeds.
  • Face–Heel Turn: After her unjustified expulsion from U.A., she joins Izuku as his first true follower.
  • First-Name Basis: She begins to call Midoriya by his first name after joining him, signifying how close she is to him, in more ways than one.
  • Gravity Master: Her Quirk allows her to manipulate gravity.
  • Jet Pack: Her HRD outfit comes with a metal backpack that unfolds into pair of wings, giving her the ability to fly.
  • Mistreatment-Induced Betrayal: Being unjustly expelled from U.A. and having her hero license revoked caused her to join Izuku's cause.
  • Morality Pet: She is one of the only two people who shows Izuku her more human side when not in public, the other being his mother.
  • The Scapegoat: U.A. wasn't actually planning on expelling anyone after the Raxus Junkyard fight. With the exception of Katsuki, everyone involved had their provisional licenses, and they considered the beating he received to be punishment enough. However, the government pressured them to expel someone in hopes of counteracting Izuku's actions and claims, and Ochako was the unfortunate one who got the boot. This, of course, backfired, because all it did was cause her to join Izuku.
  • Ship Tease: Her and Izuku have something going on, though they're too goal-oriented right now to try and explore it.
  • Took a Level in Jerkass: Ochako starts out the story as the bubbly Nice Girl that she is in canon. She befriends Izuku, objects to the idea of quirkless people being worthless, and even confronts Izuku with the intention of convincing him to surrender instead of immediately fighting the boy, showing an overall kind attitude towards anyone she thinks is a good person. She is then hit with a Trauma Conga Line which ends with her fully submitting to Izuku's ideals and methods, convinced that U.A and the heroes turned their backs on her for completely unjust reasons. While she still holds a similar, albeit more subdued, attitude towards her allies, she acts much more cold and stand-offish towards anyone that criticizes Izuku, even if the person doing so is an overall upstanding hero, such as Hawks or All Might.
  • Trauma Conga Line: In short, one of her close friends and possible crush turns out to be a supervillain. Said crush then beats down her classmates and friends with ease on an investigation she initiated, which ends with her being unjustly expelled from U.A, destroying her dream to become a hero and piling on more guilt on top of the guilt she was likely already feeling. Really, one has to be somewhat thankful that Izuku picked her up out of her runt, even if him doing so turned Ochako into a villain.
  • Undying Loyalty: Of all the members of the Knights of Balance, she by far displays this the most. It's to the point where she outright dismisses any criticism of Izuku's methods as nonsense, even if the criticism is very legitimate.

    Shoto Todoroki — Fahrenheit

The youngest child of the former hero Endeavor. After encountering Izuku at the Raxus Junkyard, Shoto started to reconsider his stance on his Quirk, on his father, and on hero society in general. Gradually growing more defiant in the months afterwards, he decided to join Izuku after the latter defeated his father, taking his Quirk, exposing his misdeeds and kicking him out of the hero system.

  • Adaptational Villainy: From a hero in training, albeit with some hangups, to an Anti-Villain who works under and supports a known villain.
  • Anti-Villain: Like Ochako, he is still training to be a hero despite his loyalty to Izuku.
  • Berserk Button: Downplayed but he understandably takes issue with anything that reminds him of Endeavor. He takes a dim view of Bakugou because of this, as he realizes that the other student is displaying the same personality.
  • Because You Were Nice to Me: Implied to be part of the reason he's sided with Izuku, as the latter not only encouraged him to use his repressed fire side and to stand up to his father, but also give Endeavor his long-overdue comeuppance by stripping him of his quirk.
  • Calling the Old Man Out: Becomes much more vocal and outspoken in defying Endeavor after Midoriya encourages him in their battle. Come Endeavor losing his quirk, Todoroki even freezes the man's mouth shut when he still tries to assert his authority over the rest of the family.
  • Co-Dragons: With Ochako. Izuku confirmed that he'll be the official leader of his knights.
  • Crippling Overspecialization: Played straight at first, an then subverted after he joins Izuku. Stain trains him in both unarmed close combat and bladed weaponry.
  • Don't Make Me Destroy You: After Bakugo showed up at the battle at Coruscant stadium, Shoto warned him to leave and not interfere with the current battle, or else he would personally defeat and arrest him.
  • Elemental Weapon: The support gear that Izuku makes for him consists of a pair of claymores, each one attuned to either his fire or ice quirk. What's more, he's going to receive training in them from Stain.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: He is clearly uncomfortable to be working with Stain, Dabi, and Himiko. He even calls the former a psychopath.
  • Face–Heel Turn: Joins Izuku after Endeavor was stripped of his quirk and finally having enough of his abuses.
  • Glass Cannon: He has an immensely powerful quirk that is only enhanced with his claymores, and certainly has the skill to use it effectively. Get past his quirk, however, and it won't take much to knock him out. During his second fight with Bakugo, despite it largely being a Curb-Stomp Battle in Shoto's favor, the blonde gaining a brief advantage and getting in close was all it took for Shoto to nearly lose.
  • The Leader: Of the hero side of the Knights of Balance.
  • Playing with Fire/An Ice Person: His Quirk is a dual type that allows him to utilize frost and flame.
  • Scarf of Asskicking: His HRD costume has one.
  • The Stoic: Often reserved and only speaks when it is required.
  • Took a Level in Jerkass: While not as obvious as Ochako, Shoto begins to act much colder and more outspoken towards his enemies and anyone he dislikes after joining Izuku, especially those that remind him of Endeavor.
  • The Woobie: As per canon. It's so bad that one of the reasons why Izuku decided to help him with hangups over his Quirk is because he could see how miserable Shoto was.

    Tenya Iida — Quicksilver

The second son of the Iida family and the younger brother of Tensei Iida, the former hero Ingenium. Back when Izuku was working for the League of Villains, he saved Tenya's life when the latter went after the man who crippled his brother and ended his hero career, Stain. Seeing something in the younger Iida, Izuku kept an eye on him, and when the time came, set up a trap to capture him and make him an offer: to join the Knights of Balance as his third "ideal hero". After an initial rejection and some enlightening information, Tenya decided to join Izuku, but as a mole for U.A.

  • Fake Defector: He joins Izuku with the intention of spying on him for U.A.
  • Locked Out of the Loop: More like everyone but him is locked out. While Tenya is The Mole and intends to leak information about the HRD to the heroes, he never had the chance to tell anyone besides his family that he was doing so. As such, nearly everyone believes that his false Face–Heel Turn is genuine.
  • The Mole: For U.A., specifically his teacher, Aizawa.
  • Positive Friend Influence: He believes that, by remaining close to them and proving that Izuku's cause is unjust, he can make Ochako and Shoto see reason and turn against the boy. Unfortunately, they may be too far gone at this point.
  • Super-Speed: His Quirk in a nutshell.
  • Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: Joining the Knights of Balance means he has to work with villains, including Stain. Tenya is clearly not happy about the situation.
  • Token Good Teammate: Of the Knights of Balance.
  • Tranquil Fury: He's driven to angry tears after he learns that his brother's request for a financial grant for an exoskeleton that would allow him to walk again was rejected because the technology wasn't advanced enough for him to continue hero work. To pour even more salt into the wound, the Hero Public Safety Commission later used the money to pay off business owners whose property were collateral damage in one of Endeavor's villain fights.
  • Villain Has a Point: While Tenya does not approve of his methods, he does recognize that the problems Izuku is trying to correct are very real. That's presumably why joining him as The Mole was palatable to him.

Villains

    "Hero Killer" Stain — Guillotine

A serial killer who hunted down heroes, viewing them all unworthy with the exception of All Might. During his brief meeting with the League, he met Izuku; at first dismissing him, they hit it off after Izuku saved Tenya from him and explained his views, which are not dissimilar to Stain's. The two would work together a few times after that, and during that time they made a bet — if Izuku could take down Endeavor and end his hero career without resorting to personally fighting him, Stain would work for him. Izuku won the bet when he had his Titan robots defeat Endeavor at his inauguration ceremony as the director of the Hero Regulation Department, before taking his Quirk and permanently expelling him from the hero system.

  • The Bet: Stain and Izuku would make one in which Stain would work for the latter if something was done about Endeavor. If nothing was done, Stain would get all of Izuku's notes and analysis on any hero he wanted. Izuku would end up winning, not that Stain minds.
  • Birds of a Feather: He and Izuku share similar dogmatic views on the nature of heroism and fame. As such, they get along swimmingly.
  • Broken Pedestal: Surprisingly subverted when it comes to All Might. While Stain does agree that All Might is crippling society and helps to get rid of him, he still respects the hero in spite of all that Midoriya exposed about him.
  • Close-Range Combatant: His weapons of choice are a Katana and some throwing daggers.
  • Co-Dragons: With Ochako. Out of each team, the two are the closest to Izuku, they are the most in the know about Izuku's plans, and Izuku clearly trusts them both. They are also, in turn, the most devote towards Izuku's cause.
  • Cruel Mercy: Once he sees how badly stripping false heroes of their quirks and exposing them and their corruption to the public humiliates them, he admits that he prefers this over his previous serial killer methods.
  • The Dreaded: There is a good reason why he is nicknamed the Hero Killer.
    • His Guillotine persona has gained quite the infamy among the hero community.
  • Drill Sergeant Nasty: He's the "personal trainer" of Izuku's knights.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: It's implied that his delay in assassinating Overhaul in chapter 35 was due to Eri being present.
    • Is completely disgusted by domestic abusers, as indiacated in his takedown of the hero Drill Bit
    • Related to the above, he despises Overhaul for his actions and wishes to see him dead.
  • Knight Templar: See Birds of a Feather above.
  • Lack of Empathy: A slightly zigzagged case. While Stain has no regrets over his action as the Hero Killer, even admitting to not feeling bad about crippling Ingenium in Tenya's face, he does admit immediately afterwards that he was wrong for doing so and that Midoriya's methods are far better, suggesting that he feels the slightest bit of guilt for his past actions.
  • Names to Run Away from Really Fast: Played With. A name like "Stain" and "Hero Killer" wouldn't get much friends, but for villains like Himiko Toga and Spinner, he's their idol.
  • The Paralyzer: How Quirk Blood Curdle works, all he needs is to lick off a bit of blood from his blades and it will immobilize his targets allowing him to kill them without much difficulty. This is best exemplified with how he and Izuku kills Christopher Skyline during Chapter 9.
  • Pet the Dog: From his perspective. He's enacted his own brand of "justice," (prior to meeting Midoriya), on villains that the justice system let slide.
  • The Unapologetic: Stain refuses to apologize for his action as the Hero Killer, even to those that were directly affected by his actions, such as Iida.

    Dabi — Dragon

An arsonist and serial killer, who was inspired by Stain and joined the League of Villains. There, he met Izuku, who was by far the member he got along with the most. After the League began to stagnate, he decided to take up Izuku's offer and join him at the Hero Regulation Department.

He is actually Touya Todoroki. After failing to live up to his father's expectations, he faked his own suicide in an attempt to ruin Endeavor's reputation. When that ultimately failed, he lived on the streets, becoming Dabi after he accidently murdered a man, and eventually joining the League after learning of Stain.

  • Accidental Murder: The first kill Dabi ever made was by complete accident, a result of underestimating the power of his quirk and a massive Rage Breaking Point.
  • Adaptational Nice Guy: While he is still an unrepentant Serial Killer, some of Dabi's more unpleasant traits, such as his self-centerness, Lack of Empathy, and his enjoyment of killing are all either toned down or absent. Though some dialogue suggests that Izuku's take down of Endeavor and Dabi's attraction to Izuku's cause meant that he never became as evil as he is in canon.
  • Body Horror: His entire body has patches of charred flesh stapled on. It's eventually revealed that these wounds were self inflicted, in part due to Dabi not wanting to look like his father.
  • The Cynic: For a time, he firmly believed that justice was an illusion and that true heroes didn't exist. Even after Midoriya came along, Dabi still tends to expect the worst in people, even being greatly surprised when his younger brother turned out to be nothing like his father.
  • A Day in the Limelight: Chapter 28 exclusively focuses on him.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Has the tendency to snark at his opponents, or allies, expense.
Dabi, to Bakugo "I guess it will be easy to be the number one hero after he murders all of the competition.
  • Faking the Dead: Fakes his own suicide out of hope that it would expose Endeavor's corruption, and continues to keep his identity a secret to this day.
  • Hidden Depths: Dabi is shown to be extremely concerned about his lack of progress and inability to get stronger, suggesting that the last thing he wants is to be viewed as a burden or useless.
  • Playing with Fire: His Quirk, Cremation, allows him to produce blue flames.
  • The Power of Hate: Pretty much the only thing that kept Touya alive for all the time he lived in the criminal underworld, drowning in depression over his childhood, was his unbridled hatred towards Endeavor and want to destroy his legacy.
  • The Stoic: Doesn't exactly talk alot.
  • Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: When he was with the League, Dabi held nothing but dislike towards all of his allies, and was only there because he agreed with what the League was trying to achieve. Subverted with the Knights, however, as Dabi shows, at worst, begrudging respect for all of his allies, sans Toga.
  • That Man Is Dead: As far as Dabi is concerned, Touya Todoroki died years ago when he faked his own suicide. While Dabi has considered coming clean to Shoto, he would much rather just let the past die and for any old ghosts to move on.
  • Tragic Villain: Mass murderer he may be, Touya has had it rough, suffering under physical and mental abuse due to his father and getting the idea that he was weak and a failure beaten into his skull. His attempts to bring Endeavor to justice and save his family only results in him being presumed dead, and he, at this point being only 12, is forced to live in the criminal underworld, stewing in self hatred and righteous fury. Like Midoriya, Uraraka, and his own brother, he was simply another victim of a broken system.
  • Used to Be a Sweet Kid: Flashbacks from the perspective of Rei showed that, before all of the abuse started, Touya was like any other child, excitable and happy over gaining a quirk.

    Himiko Toga — Chameleon

A teenage serial killer and Stain fanatic who met Izuku when she joined the League of Villains. After Izuku's plans finally took off, Toga left the League to join him out of "love".

  • Abhorrent Admirer: Toga is psychotic and unstable which greatly puts Izuku off, who wants nothing to do with her. In fact, he barely tolerates her and only keeps her around for the same reason Megatron keeps Starscream around: she's too damn good at what she does.
  • Because You Were Nice to Me: A large part of the reason as to why Himiko is so loyal towards Midoriya is due to the latter's disapproval of those who called Himiko's quirk monsterous and his belief that she had a legitimate place in the world.
  • Blood Magic: Her Quirk allows her to Transform into whoever she wants, provided she consumes some of target's blood.
  • The Friend Nobody Likes: None of her allies seem to be partially big fans of her, likely due to her overbearing and psychopathic personality. Izuku, Ochako, and Dabi in particular have all shown to dislike Toga, and the rest are, at best, wary of her.
  • Hopeless Suitor: She has no chance with Izuku. On top of his implied feelings for Ochako, he recognizes that Toga's "love" for him is obsessive and psychotic, like Bellatrix Lestrange's love for Voldemort.
  • Ignored Enamored Underling: She's head over heels over Izuku. Izuku ignores her feelings unless he's using her.
  • Not in This for Your Revolution: Toga is a part of the HRD and is one of Izuku's most loyal soldiers not due to any personal beliefs in his cause, but because he was one of the few people to not call her and her quirk monsterous. That, and her psychotic love for him.
  • Shapeshifter: Her Quirk in a nutshell.

Titans

    Titans

The Titans are powerful "anti-villain" robots developed by Izuku. First shown off during his internship at Geonosis, they were made with the primary purpose of assisting both combat and rescue heroes, being touted as the future of law enforcement and hero support. After Izuku's rise to power, they are placed under direct control of the Hero's Regulation Department, being used for their original purpose, as well as protection of important figures such as Izuku and combating "false" heroes.

    Nemesis

A powerful Titan robot that is meant to be a temporary replacement for All Might until a human can retake the title of "Symbol of Peace". Named after the Greek Goddess of the same name.

  • Anti-Climax: For how much it is built up over the course of several chapters, it is defeated rather easily by All Might. Justified in that the one shown off to the public was simply a prototype that would be improved on over time.
  • Chest Blaster: Has an energy cannon in its chest. Uses it as a last ditch effort to defeat All Might during their battle.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: The prototype is on the receiving end of this by All Might.
    • The second model, on the other hand, gives one to Gentle and La Brave, who are unable to do anything to defeat the machine, only slow it down.
  • Curb Stomp Cushion: It is defeated easily, but the fact that it could even trade blows with All Might in the first place shows just how powerful this thing is.
  • Expy: This story's equivalent of Ultron, albeit without free will and the murderous hatred of humans.
  • Evil Sounds Deep: It has an extremely deep and metallic voice, which only adds to it's menace.
  • It Can Think: Not only is Nemesis a huge physical threat, it is also capable of scanning it's opponent's quirk and can adapt accordingly.
  • The Juggernaut: Unless you just so happen to have the strength needed to match it, nothing slows Nemesis down. It will continue to chase after you until you are captured, and there is very little you can do to delay it. Gentle and La Brave learned this the hard way.
  • Suddenly Voiced: One of the improvements that the second Nemesis would end up getting was the ability to speak.
  • Super-Strength: Can match All Might in power, briefly trading blows with the number one hero with ease.
  • Super-Toughness: It is covered in shock absorbing armor plates, and as such can take massive amounts of damage. It takes a full punch to the face from All Might for it to show any signs of being wounded.
  • Your Head A-Splode: How the prototype is destroyed, courtesy of All Might.

Others

    Mei Hatsume

A former member of U.A's Support class. She first meant Izuku during Geonosis's technology expo, getting both a closer look at the prototype Titan and an encouraging speech from Izuku, befriending him. After Izuku's rise to power, she is offered a job as an engineer in the Hero Regulation Department, to which she accepted, joining Izuku's quest to change society.

  • Ambiguous Situation: It is unknown whether Mei has made a full Face–Heel Turn or not. The most we know on her thoughts towards Izuku is that she believes he isn't crazy, but simply has big goals and ideas, and that he is offering her a golden opportunity to help heroes out a lot sooner. While there is evidence to suggest that she is loyal to Izuku, note  this doesn't guarantee that she is fully loyal to him and that she won't jump ship if Izuku starts to fall off the deep end.
  • Anti-Villain: If she has made a Face–Heel Turn, she is this. She hasn't directly done anything wrong, and is developing equipment that is being used for good. It's just that she's doing all of this while working for Izuku.
  • Bunny-Ears Lawyer: She's a scatterbrained, hyperactive inventor who's inventions more often blow up in her face then work. She is also talented enough for Izuku to trust her on providing support gear for his Knights and to head the development of Nemesis.
  • Ditzy Genius: Talented, but also eccentric and prone to ignore instructions.
  • Easily Forgiven: She is shockingly quick to forgive Izuku for turning into a villain. When they meet again after the fact, she never even brings it up or demands an explanation or apology, instead focusing on the new Titan models. When Izuku apologizes to her later in the conversation, she is confused to why he is doing so and brushes it off with a joke. Mind you, not even Ochako or Inko forgave him that easily.
  • Face–Heel Turn: Possibly.
  • Mad Scientist: She certainly hits many of the core personality traits of a Mad Scientist, being an eccentric, ditzy, and somewhat demented inventor who creates incredibly useful and dangerous devices with ease. The fact that she, probably, turned to the side of evil makes this even more obvious.
  • Super-Senses: Her quirk, "Zoom" gives her telescopic vision.
  • Workaholic: Badly. It's to the point that Izuku has to order Mei to take mandated meal breaks and get eight hours of sleep, even if he has to get his Titans to drag her out of her lab for the inventor to do so.

Danjuro Tobita and Manami Aiba - Gentle Criminal and La Brava

A duo of minor villains who record themselves committing minor crimes to gain fame. They are caught by Izuku after breaking into the HRD headquarters. The boy, recognizing their talents, recruits them into the HRD instead of sending them to jail.

  • Bullying the Dragon: Gentle was either too brave or too stupid if he thinks he can infiltrate the headquarters of the HRD without consequence.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Sadly Subverted. Gentle thinks he is making one and that taking a role in the HRD will allow him to turn his life around, blissfully unaware that he is in a much worse spot than he once was.
  • Oh, Crap!: Just when they thought they are in the clear, Izuku shows up and not long after, so did Nemesis.
Izuku: Oh my, it seems you are stuck between a rock and a hard place. Which one am I? The rock or the hard place?
  • Only Sane Woman: It's implied that La Brava sees through Izuku's bullshit and can tell how corrupt the HRD is, given that Izuku had to threaten her into working for him. Gentle, by comparison, is completely unaware.
  • Phantom Thief: They're so good at it that Midoriya hires them to get more dirty secrets out of the HPSC for him.
  • Villain Protagonist: In their focused chapter where they infiltrated HRD Headquarters.

Heroes

U.A. High

Faculty

    Toshinori Yagi — All Might

The current Number One Hero and Izuku's former idol. One day All Might encountered a young Quirkless boy who wanted to be a hero, and knowing how dangerous being a hero could be, told the boy to give up on his dream. One year later, he came to regret his actions when he learned that young boy, Izuku Midoriya, had become a villain — one that has set out to destroy everything he has worked to build.

  • All for Nothing: All of the work he, Nana, and the other users of One For All put in to spread hope and peace throughout Japan? All ruined in less than a year because All Might was tactless to his greatest fan at the wrong time.
  • Arch-Enemy:
    • Izuku stylizes himself as this, but in truth the enmity is one-sided. All Might can't find it in himself to return Izuku's hatred because he feels he deserves it. Plus, a middle-aged man having a teenager who should still be in high school as his nemesis feels wrong to All Might on a conceptual level, let alone a personal one.
    • All For One. When Aizawa told All Might he wasn't so different from All For One, it very visibly rattled the man, and was enough for Nezu to call Aizawa off.
  • The Atoner: He sees ending Izuku's Reign of Terror as his Redemption Quest for setting the boy on that path in the first place. Unfortunately, stopping Izuku is easier said than done.
  • Berserk Button: Being compared to All For One. So much so that when Shouta Aizawa made that example, All Might nearly attacked him.
  • Beyond Redemption: All Might's initial plan with Izuku was to detain and eventually redeem him. However, Izuku revealing how dangerous he truly is and the acceleration of his plans left All Might more and more disheartened. After Izuku becomes Director of the new Hero Regulation Department, All Might finally gives up, recognizing that Izuku is too far gone to save.
  • Broken Pedestal: To Izuku, and then to society in general after Izuku exposes his true form and the truth about One For All.
  • Brought Down to Normal: Most of One For All has faded away from him in chapter 32, and he can only use his buff form for a minute after this. Unfortunately, this happened after he failed to defeat Izuku.
  • Brutal Honesty: Deconstructed. While his frank admission about Izuku's chances of being a hero ensured his words couldn't be construed, the lack of tact and self-awareness hurt Izuku far more than it should have and essentially broke the boy, putting him on the road to a Face–Heel Turn.
  • But for Me, It Was Tuesday: The day Izuku met All Might was the day his life changed forever and motivated him to taking the path of villainy in order to change society. To All Might, however, it was just another day with a fan of whom he had to give well-meaning but poor advice. During their second battle, Izuku brutally calls him out on this, asking him if he would have ever thought of Izuku again had he not become a dangerous villain.
  • Condescending Compassion: All Might genuinely meant well when he told Izuku to give up being a hero. The life of a pro-hero is dangerous even for those with the most powerful of Quirks, as All Might himself can attest to, and someone Quirkless would be at even more risk than the average pro-hero. However, he didn't stop to think about how his words would be taken from a boy who was most likely talked down to and discriminated against all his life, and it ended with Izuku turning to villainy.
  • Everyone Has Standards:
    • He finds Bakugo's past treatment of Midoriya to be abhorrent.
    • He is horrified at the widespread depression and discrimination of the quirkless and impractical quirk wielders, especially because he unknowingly played a part in it.
  • Fake Ultimate Hero: Zig-zagged and deconstructed. All Might truly is the greatest hero in the world, but the Showy Invincible Hero persona he projects to the public is a standard not even he can live up to. So when he exposes his faults to Izuku, they're magnified to be more than they really are and cause Izuku to hate him in turn.
  • Fatal Flaw: Despite being a great hero, All Might still has faults.
    • Guilt. All Might very naturally feels guilty about turning Izuku into a villain, something that affects him through his confrontations with the boy. However, while it is a good thing that All Might doesn't see Izuku as irredeemable and nothing more than a punching bag for him to beat on, his guilt causes him to refuse to take Izuku seriously as a threat, even when the boy made it clear that words will not cause him to back down. This costs both All Might and society greatly, as it allows Izuku to easily escape from and beat All Might when, if All Might wasn't holding back, he would have won easily. Izuku only makes it as far as he does because of this, and it ends with him being nearly untouchable thanks to him gaining a government position on top of becoming more powerful than All Might.
    • Arrogance. While not as bad as Bakugou, he does sees quirks as the only thing that makes a hero. Unfortunately, his quick dismissal of Izuku for being quirkless is what sets the entire story into motion. Witnessing Izuku becoming a successful villain and him defeating so many heroes, including himself causes All Might to acknowledge how utterly wrong he is.
  • Hero with Bad Publicity: He becomes this more and more over the course of Izuku's conquest. At first, the population begins to doubt his power when he fails to subdue Izuku. Then, the quirkless and impractical quirk users grow to hate him after the truth about Izuku and his status as formerly quirkness is revealed. Finally, his reputation firmly plummets when he illegally attacks Izuku in Coruscant Stadium, cementing him not only as someone who actively tried to stop a reformist who was doing nothing but good for society, but also a villain who attempted to assault a government official. In the end, only those who either dislike Izuku or believe in All Might personally still support the former number one hero.
  • Hypocrite: Izuku accuses him of this, as All Might was quirkless like him and many others, but was given the chance to become a hero. For the man to immediately turn back around and not encourage the same opportunity for others is an incredible flaw of his. To his credit, the man comes to realize that Villain Has a Point.
  • I Did What I Had to Do: All Might's justification for deceiving the world by posing as the Invincible Hero is that an era of peace and justice is well worth burshing over that slight moral dilemma. However, the consequences says otherwise.
  • It's All My Fault: Subverted. While All Might does feel immense guilt for causing Izuku's Face–Heel Turn, he also recognizes that it isn't all his fault. He was just the straw that broke the camel's back — in truth, Izuku's turn to villainy had been building since long before he ever met All Might.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: He really, really regrets not giving Izuku a chance to prove himself and telling him to give up on being a Hero, driving the boy to villainy. He even admits to himself that he was wrong and that Izuku would have been an excellent Hero, possibly one of the best.
  • My Greatest Failure: Izuku Midoriya is unquestionably the biggest mistake of All Might's life. Years of hard work, all of them spent protecting society as the Symbol of Peace, all go down the drain within months because he had to be tactless at the wrong moment with his biggest fan. His guilt over the situation proves to be a double-edged sword, as while it drives him to stop Izuku, it also prevents him from doing what is necessary to accomplish that goal. When he is finally able to push aside his guilt, it is already too late, and he is unable to muster up enough power to defeat the kid once and for all.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Part of the reason All Might fails to prevent Izuku's rise is due to the latter exploiting the former's weak spot which he showed it to the teen when they first met. Izuku can't help but mock All Might's stupidity for showing it to him.
  • Oh, Crap!:
    • He reacts horrified once he learns that Apotheosis now possesses One For All.
    • After now being branded as a villain thanks to Izuku, All Might tries to stand up against the villain by proclaiming that he would gladly throw away his reputation to stop Izuku. Then much to his horror, Bakugou shows up, going against his orders to stay at U.A and throwing his future away too.
  • Put on a Bus: He temporarily exits the story after Chapter 33, due to Izuku branding him as a villain.
  • This Is Unforgivable!: After Izuku uses the Soul Stone (AKA, All For One), he uses this action to muster up the strength to attempt to defeat the kid one last time, wishing to make sure that All For One is never used or abused again.
  • Underestimating Badassery: Having been a successful hero for so long, he believes that One For All cannot be matched by anyone, with the exception of All For One of course. It's because of this that he doesn't see Izuku Midoriya being able to defeat him and the latter's young age gives All Might more reason not to believe it. It's only after the boy had destroyed his reputation and left him in a severely bloodied and crippled state that All Might now sees Izuku as a legitimate threat.
    • He also views machines like Izuku's Titans and Nemesis as inferior to heroes even though one Titan nearly defeated him.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: There's no shortage in people willing to rip him a new one for accidentally turning his biggest fan into a villain.
    • All For One does this during one of their meetings in prison, but mostly to mock and spite him.
    • The first thing Gran Torino does when called in for the operation to take Izuku down is kick him in the face.
    • Nezu doesn't do it outright, but he does mention that all that Izuku has accomplished as a villain proves that he would've been an amazing hero and that All Might was wrong. That one is a real kick in the gut.
    • Finally, Aizawa gives him "The Reason You Suck" Speech after Izuku becomes a government director, blaming him for everything and stating that he's no better than All For One.
  • Villain Has a Point: He does recognize the good that Izuku is doing and the fact that society needs to change, but ultimately believes that Izuku's more undesirable methods are crossing a line.

    Nezu

The principal of U.A. High.

  • Adaptational Dumbass: He is much more gullible than his canonical counterpart, being outplayed rather easily by Izuku. This is best shown with the Anti-Gauntlet subplot, in which Nezu completely takes the leak at face value, never questioning why Izuku would be careless enough to allow valuable information to be leaked, or the idea that it could be a trap, things his canon self would have picked up on.
  • Keeping the Enemy Close: Deconstructed. He's refrained from expelling Katsuki out of fear that he'd become a villain otherwise, but as Izuku points out, all he's doing is giving Katsuki what he wants instead of actually correcting the problem. For what it's worth, Aizawa realized this as well and finally took measures to force Katsuki to shape up, which he couldn't have done without Nezu's full consent.
  • Oh, Crap!: Whenever he gets outplayed by Izuku.
    • Practically sweats bullets when Izuku threatens to remove his quirk, (Which may hypothetically reduce Nedzu to a non-sapient animal) if the latter interferes again.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: A more subtle example. He never directly calls All Might out. Instead, he makes some simple observations about Izuku and then comments that the boy would've made a wonderful hero. To All Might, it might as well have been a kick to the gut.

    Shouta Aizawa — Eraserhead

An underground hero and the current homeroom teacher of Class 1-A.

  • Beyond Redemption: Whatever symapthy he has for Izuku completely dissipates as the villain continues to do more vile actions to accomplish his goals.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: After Ochaco tells him about Aizawa's strict teaching methods, Izuku uses it to paint U.A in a bad light.
  • My Greatest Failure: Aizawa deeply regrets expelling Uraraka and regrets it even more when she allies with Izuku Midoriya. He admits this to Bakugou who Aizawa wishes he was the one to be expelled than the girl.
  • "Not So Different" Remark: He admits that his tendency to transfer and expel students who don't meet his standards makes him no better than All Might, though at least he gave them a chance.
  • Not So Similar: Izuku accuses Aizawa of only caring about powerful quirks like the rest of society due to both Uraraka's expulsion and her account on her former teachers' quirk assessment test. While Aizawa fails to convince Izuku otherwise, this is completely inaccurate, as the teacher only cares if his students have the potential to be heroes, not if their quirks are extremely powerful.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: The normally stoic and calm pro-hero flies into a complete panic when Izuku is revealed to have gain a position in the government.
    • He also gets very pissed off at All Might the chapter after this, delivering a rage induced "The Reason You Suck" Speech to the hero.
    • Whenever he has to deal with or talk to Izuku, Aizawa completely drops his usual tired demeanor and stays on his guard constantly.
  • Papa Wolf: Strict as he may be, he will defend his students if they are ever directly threatened, even Katsuki, who Aizawa is more than willing to expel after everything he had done.
  • Pet the Dog: It's clear that Aizawa is one of the few pro heroes that do not look down on the quirkless, and he believes that they are capable of becoming heroes. He tell Izuku that much, and even admits that, while he does not approve of his current path, he would have fully supported his dreams to become a hero so long as he had the drive and potential to do so.
  • Rage Breaking Point: After Izuku gains a government position and becomes nearly untouchable to the heroes, Aizawa snaps at All Might, angrily pointing out how the hero's lack of tact and arrogance got them into this situation in the first place, capping it off by comparing All Might to All For One.
    • Following the above incident, Aizawa is also completely done letting Bakugo's horrible attitude slide without consequence.
  • Stern Teacher: Very strict to his students, to the point of expelling the ones who don't meet his expectations.
  • The Stoic: Tends to act calm and rational in most situations. Even when confronting Midoriya, he does so in a calm manner.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: Feeds two separate ones to both All Might, (for causing Izuku's spiral into villainy, and setting too high standards for heroes), and to Bakugo, (calling him out for his ego and temper).
  • Villain Has a Point: Aizawa mentally admits that Midoriya isn't wrong in his understanding of the system and how he goes about exploiting it's flaws, it's just that he can see that Izuku's obsessive complusions, unwillingness to stop until society is how he invisions it, and inability to see that he will hit a dead end will lead to tragedy.

Students

Class 1-A

    General

One of the two first year heroics classes of U.A.

  • Breaking the Fellowship: Things start to go downhill for Class 1-A after Izuku completes his Infinity Gauntlet. Three of their classmates defected to one of the greatest villains in history, and the class then shuns Bakugou for creating the villain in the first place. After Bakugou is forced to flee Japan, the class is down of a fourth of their original members (assumming whoever replaced Izuku is no longer in the class) something that their rival class, specifically Monoma, aren't letting them live down.
  • Demoted to Extra: To be expected, since the story doesn't focus on them. Ignoring the ones who joined Izuku and/or took part in the Raxas Junkyard battle, the only member of the class who has received any focus is Mina. The rest have either only received the occasional line/appearance,note  or have yet to even make an appearance.note
  • Everyone Has Standards: Everyone agrees that Bakugo's bullying on Izuku is seriously deplorable, especially since it's the reason why the latter turns into the most powerful villain in existence.
  • Evil Former Friend: Ochako and Shoto. Subverted, at least for now, with Tenya.
  • Oh, Crap!: They reacted like this whenever they encountered Izuku. When he appeared in their classroom during his visit to U.A, most of the class could only stand in fearful silence. Mineta was most fearful of him, knowing that his personality would earn him the villain's wrath.

    Katsuki Bakugou

Izuku Midoriya's former childhood friend and life-long bully. After he finally enters U.A., life hasn't been very peachy for him. Forced to face the reality that he isn't the best, that he never was, and that his poor behavior won't be rewarded anymore, he still refuses to change his ways, even after learning that his actions helped create the worst villain Japan has seen since All For One. Eventually, his teachers have it with his behavior, and put him on probation with the threat of expulsion if he doesn't shape up.

  • All for Nothing: Despite being given a second chance to remain in the hero course and putting in the effort to improve his temper, he ultimately throws it all out the window by aiding All Might in the battle at Coruscant Stadium, causing him to be labeled as a villain and unofficially expelling him from U.A.
  • Arch-Enemy: Izuku Midoriya, further amplified during the battle at Raxus Junkyard.
  • Berserk Button: Izuku's mere existence is enough to set him off.
  • Beyond Redemption: Are you a villain or are supporting a villain's actions? Congratulations, you're a lost cause in Katsuki's eyes. Bakugou has made it very clear that he believes Izuku deserves to rot in a prison cell for what he's done, and not even a Jerkass Realization about his past actions could change that. He also seems to think similarly about people like Todoroki and Uraraka, as regardless of reason, they are supporting a well known villain.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Saved All Might from being detained after he is defeated by Izuku in chapter 32.
  • Break the Haughty: In short; the kid he'd bullied for years handed him a No-Holds-Barred Beatdown. His teachers have made it clear that he has nothing that qualifies him as a hero, and his classmates and very few friends have cut all ties with him.
  • The Bully: Deconstructed. Bakugou's past actions of tormenting Izuku eventually come back to haunt him, when the now head director Izuku reveals their past interactions towards the whole of Class 1-A during his visit to U.A. Needless to say his classmates want NOTHING to do with him either severing ties with him (Eijiro Kirishima) or are frightened of what he might to do them (Mina Ashido).
  • Butt-Monkey: Karma is really letting Bakugou have it, including losing in every fight, being ostracized by his classmates at U.A and Izuku using every opportunity he has to make his former childhood friend miserable.
  • The Corruptible: Nezu fears he's this, which is why he hasn't expelled him yet despite having more than enough reasons to. Normally, that wouldn't be an issue and Katsuki would've been expelled already, but because he has such a powerful Quirk, letting him out on the streets would be too dangerous.
  • Curb Stomp Cushion: Izuku clearly outclasses Bakugou in their fight... but damn if the latter doesn't go down swinging.
  • Create Your Own Villain: Izuku blames Bakugou's bullying of him for over a decade as a key part of his descent to villainy.
  • Dye or Die: Now that he's on the run from the law, Katsuki was forced to dye his blonde hair black in order to conceal his identity.
  • Fantastic Racism: The reason why he bullies Izuku? It's all because Izuku lacks a quirk.
    • Subverted later on when it's revealed he doesn't hate quirkless people or even the fact that Izuku is one. He just hates Izuku.
  • Fatal Flaw: Wrath, big time. His horrendous temper and lack of a filter/impulse control in serious situations cause no end of trouble, for both himself and the rest of hero society.
  • The Friend Nobody Likes: Almost the majority of U.A. don't have a good opinion on him and the only reason the teachers there are tolerant towards his poor behavior is because of the risk of him becoming a villain. This gets worse when Bakugou is exposed as the reason for the creation of Apotheosis with everyone no longer wanting to associate with him anymore and the teachers are now threatening the teen with expulsion if he doesn't shape up.
  • The Good Guys Always Win: That's basically Bakugou's entire philosophy, that heroes will always win in anything. However his ego and violent behavior causes him to never consider that his opponents are way more powerful than him nor consider the consequences of his actions. Instead, Bakugou gets the snot kicked out of him, one of his classmates expelled and U.A. putting the teen in check to prevent further damage. It's only after witnessing Izuku defeating All Might that Bakugou understands that the hero will not always win.
Izuku: If you can't win…by your own logic that would mean you're not a hero right?
  • Hair-Trigger Temper: Deconstructed:
    • Katsuki's tendency to fly into a rage at the slightest provocation is presented as nothing but a massive problem, as it allows smarter opponents, like Izuku, to manipulate Katsuki into playing right into their hands. When Izuku was almost defeated by the students at the Raxas Junkyard battle, all it took was for him to needle Bakugo in a completely unsubtle way for the blonde to attack him, ruining the plan and ensuring his victory.
    • Bakugo's temper also causes him to not consider the full ramifications of his actions. Frequently he'll charge in and not take into account any collateral damage either to himself or others.
  • Hero with Bad Publicity: After aiding All Might in the battle at Coruscant Stadium, he becomes this to the general population. Even before that he ended up ostracized by his own classmates for what he did to Izuku.
  • Heroic Resolve: In action at least. For all of his unheroic personality flaws, one of Bakugo's few positives is that he absolutely refuses to give up, and will throw everything he's got at a villain until he's literally bleeding and broken.
  • Ignored Epiphany: Bakugou broke the rules and attempted to fight a powerful supervillain thinking he was the same weakling. Bakugou gets his ass handed to him as Izuku savors finally being able to pay Bakugou for the suffering he put him through and gets his classmate who had legitimate means to investigate, expelled. Does Bakugou regret what he's done or reflect on his past actions? Nope. Not in the least.
  • It's All About Me: Bakugo's attempts in aiding All Might at Coruscant Stadium is neither about doing what's right nor having a change of heart; it's just him wanting to save face. Torodoki quickly figures it out and is disgusted at his former classmate even more. With that said, given Bakugou's Sanity Slippage and his desperation to redeem himself in the eyes of his classmates, this is a slightly more sympathetic example than most.
  • Jerkass: Goes without saying although this is deconstructed. See The Bully above.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: While it does seem cruel and completely stupid for Bakugou to ignore Izuku's sympathetic traits and actions and fully treat him as scum who will ruin Japan, he really isn't wrong in doing so. Many characters have pointed out that Izuku could easily go full on tyrant and bring Japan to ruin if he is allowed to continue acting freely, and Izuku seems to be slowly becoming more and more villainous as time goes on. While ignoring the plight of the Quirkless is the wrong thing to do, Bakugou is right in saying that Izuku and his followers are doing this the wrong way, and as such deserve no sympathy from him.
  • Jerkass Realization: Katsuki eventually comes to regret how he treated Midoriya when they were kids. While the supervillain definitely deserves Bakugo's scorn and hatred, the nerdy, quirkless, All Might fanboy deserved absolutely none of it.
  • Jobber: Bakugo completely fails to win any of his onscreen battles, with almost all of them not even being close. The only time he wasn't curb stomped into the ground was during his first battle with Izuku/Apotheosis, and even then the latter was in control of most of the fight.
  • Karma Houdini Warranty: Bakugou got away with horrifically bullying Izuku out of racism for years and it doesn't even hinder his chances into getting into U.A., Bakugou illegally attempted to fight Izuku, an at large supervillain without a license, destroys Ochako's legitimate investigation, and gets his ass handed to him. Bakugou doesn't even get punished for it while the innocent Ochako is expelled. Unbeknowst to Bakugou, the incident has U.A investigate his past and find out about his unpunished bullying and his part of making Izuku a villain. When Bakugou attempts to attack Izuku when the latter is a government official with the power to screw U.A over, they have enough. Aizawa bluntly tells Bakugou he's not special, he's not cut to be a hero and they should have expelled him instead of Ochako. Aizawa tells Bakugou they will no longer tolerate his attitude, he's to report to mandatory counseling and will be facing punishment with the promise of expulsion if he acts out of line. Before he was told to report to counseling, his classmates ostracized him when they learned from Izuku himself how Bakugou horrifically bullied him.
  • Laser-Guided Karma:
    • His former bully victim is now overseeing all hero activities, including his and will mercilessly punish him (via Quirk removal) should he slip up. Even worse that Izuku is intentionally goading Bakugou to make a mistake.
    • Bakugou's punishment is revealed to be assisting with taking care of Quirkless children in a medical facility. Considering how he used to treat Izuku, this is rather fitting. In fact, that's probably why Aizawa chose that punishment to begin with.
  • Oh, Crap!:
    • Izuku is the main source of this for Bakugou, especially when his former childhood friend is now a government official with the legal authority to punish him severely.
    • Bakugou completely freezes when he realizes that U.A. will expel him from the school and deprive him of his dreams of becoming a hero.
  • Keeping the Enemy Close: This is the real reason why Katsuki was spared expulsion, at least for Nezu. His Quirk and bad temperament made him a risk for villainy, which is why they expelled Ochako in his place — which backfired when she made a Face–Heel Turn instead.
  • Put on a Bus: His fate as of Chapter 33, due to him being labeled as a villain and escaping to I-Island.
  • Sanity Slippage: Ever since his defeat at the hands of Izuku at Raxus Junkyard, Bakugou is constantly haunted by hallucinations of Izuku.
  • Shut Up, Hannibal!: Subverted. While Bakugou, outwordly, seems to reject Todoroki's "The Reason You Suck" Speech during the battle at Coruscant stadium and refuses to listen to one of "Deku's lap dogs" his thoughts make it very clear that Shoto's speech hit home.
  • Surprisingly Realistic Outcome: When people learn that he horrifically bullied Izuku and that he played as much, if not more, of a role in turning Izuku into a villain than All Might did, he becomes an outcast, with no one wanting anything to do with him anymore. U.A., who had been lenient with his behavior out of fear that he would become a villain if he was expelled, finally decide that they can't allow his behavior to pass anymore when they realize how much damage it's already caused and put him on probation with the threat of expulsion to force him to shape up.
  • This Is Unforgivable!: The mere act of becoming or supporting a villain is enough for you to become a lost cause in Bakugo's eyes. Not only does he firmly think Izuku is irredeemable, he also calls out Todoroki for becoming Izuku's "lap dog" and doesn't hold anything back against him, with the implication that he would do the exact same to Ochako, Iida, and Hatsume.
  • We Used to Be Friends: Before Bakugou got his quirk, he was best friends with Izuku. Once he got his quirk however, his ego shot up and began to bully Izuku, destroying their friendship. It also seems to be the case with Class 1-A after learning of his past with Izuku, as most of them want nothing to do with him after learning about how poorly he treated Izuku. Most prominently are Eijiro Kirishima, who severed ties with him, and Mina Ashido, who’s scared of what he might do to them if they disapprove of his actions.
  • The Worf Effect: As a showcase of just how much more powerful Izuku's Knights had gotten, Bakugo's second fight with Todoroki had the bi-colored boy completely kick Katsuki's shit in, with the blonde only gaining an advantage for a few seconds at most.

    Eijiro Kirishima — Red Riot

A member of Class 1-A and Katsuki's closest friend. Participates in the battle at Raxus Junkyard, where he was soundly defeated by Izuku. After learning of Katsuki's history of bullying, he breaks off his friendship with the boy.

  • Broken Pedestal:
    • Eijiro used to hold Bakugo as the shining example of what a manly hero should be. Needless to say, finding out that he was an abusive bully and watching him become a fugitive effectively shattered that viewpoint.
    • Like a good majority of the population, he lost most of his respect and admiration for All Might after his failed attempts to defeat Izuku. He even considers All Might to be the type of hero no-one should strive to be, one who is nothing more than a façade.
  • Determinator: He pushes himself beyond his quirk's capabilities to defeat a villain in chapter 34, earning him Izuku's respect.
  • Disappointed in You: Towards Katsuki, less because of him turning a kid into a supervillain, but more due to his completely unheroic attitude during his childhood.
  • Logical Weakness: His quirk gives him the ability to harden his skin, but he still needs to breath. Izuku exploits this during their battle by wrapping an engine belt around his throat.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Kirishima's idea to set up a trap for Izuku Midoriya was doom to failure. It only got worse when he called in Bakugou for help, not knowing the latter's history with Midoriya who expertly played his former bully like a harp. As consequence, Kirishima and several of his classmates were injured and traumatized and Uraraka was expelled from U.A..
  • "Not So Different" Remark: Kirishima mentally admits that what he and Midoriya have in common is that they both look up to Bakugou.
  • Oh, Crap!: Several times during the battle at Raxas Junkyard, most notably when Izuku uses the One For All and Time stones in conjunction
  • Only Friend: Was this to Katsuki, being the only person the explosive blonde could ever consider a friend after he kicked Izuku out of his circle years ago.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: Gives a small, but poignant one to Katsuki
Kirishima "So you're a bully, that's the gist of it. You thought Midoriya was looking down on you when in reality it was the opposite. He was looking up to you. Heroes are supposed to protect the weak and helpless, not belittle and mock them. What you did wasn't manly at all."
  • Refusal of the Call: When Izuku offered him a postion within the Knights of Balance, Kirishima ultimately refused, wanting to walk his own path as a hero.
  • Super-Toughness: His quirk, Hardening, gives him this. He can survive having a truck thrown at him without a scratch.
  • We Used to Be Friends: Towards Katsuki, after he learns about his history of bullying and thus breaking off their friendship.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Towards Katsuki. He is not happy that the guy he considered his best friend was actually a bully who was primarily responsible for creating a dangerous supervillain.

    Momo Yaoyorozu — Creati

The Vice president of Class 1-A. Participates in the battle at Raxus Junkyard, where she is soundly defeated by Izuku.

    Tsuyu Asui — Froppy

A member of Class 1-A, and Ochako's former best friend. Participated in the battle at Raxas Junkyard, where she was soundly defeated by Izuku.

  • Brutal Honesty: Says what's on her mind and doesn't mince words about it.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Has a bit of a wit due to her honesty.
Tsuyu, in reaction to Izuku being revealed as Apotheosis after discussing Ochako's feelings towards him "I guess the weddings off."
  • Out of Focus: In comparison to the other members of the Raxas Junkyard battle, Tsuyu has had very little screentime. While Eijiro and Momo have been given focus during the story, note  Tsuyu only had focus during the battle, and is pushed into the background after this. Even during the Raxas Junkyard battle, she barely gets any focus, and is among the first to be knocked out, alongside Kirishima, after failing to subdue Izuku.
    • To put it in perspective, all of the members of Raxas Junkyard had at least one solo fight and talk with Izuku during the battle. Tsuyu is the only exception to this.
  • Overly-Long Tongue: Her quirk gives her one. Uses it to trap Izuku with the help of her classmates during the Raxas Junkyard battle.

    Mina Ashido — Pinky

A member of Class 1-A who has mostly made minor background appearances.

  • Freudian Excuse Is No Excuse:
    • While she understands why Izuku turned out the way he did, she believes that this doesn't at all justify his actions towards "false" heroes.
    • Although she's the only one trying to defend Bakugou, it's implied that she too disapproved his classmate's bullying of Izuku regardless of whatever reason he had to do so.
  • Nice Girl: The only person in Class 1-A that still attempts to be friendly to Katsuki and give him the benefit of the doubt, although she is ultimately afraid to approach him.
  • Properly Paranoid: Scared to approach Katsuki. It's hard to blame her, however, due to his temper.
  • Recurring Extra: Like many of Class 1-A, Mina is mostly irrelevant to the main plot and sticks to making background appearances. With that said, she by far has the most focus in comparison to her other classmates.

Others

    Mirio Togata — Lemillion

A third year student at U.A, and All Might's choice successor. Originally slated to receive One For All, he becomes one of several Heroes to oppose Izuku.

  • As Long as There Is One Man: Firmly believes that, so long as he and heroes such as Sir Nighteye are still free, Izuku hasn't won yet.
  • Berserk Button: Insulting the dead or anyone Mirio looks up to is one of the few way to truly piss him off.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Saves Katsuki, Gran Torino, and All Might from a group of Titan robots in chapter 32.
  • Boring, but Practical: As of chapter 34, he is studying politics to find any effective loophole so that the heroes can remove Izuku from power. Certainly not the flashiest way to attempt to defeat a supervillain, but it's likely the best shot he currently has.
  • Calling the Old Man Out: Mirio politely reminds All Might that his narrow-minded views of quirkless is what brought out the worst of Izuku and treating him as such will only further encourage hostilities.
  • Friendly Enemy: Tries to be friendly towards Midoriya and Overhaul during their encounter in chapter 35, though neither want anything to do with him at that moment. He does, however, somewhat succed with Midoriya towards the end.
  • The Heart: A compassionate hero who is able to see the good in Izuku and is generally able to inspire hope in many.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: Mirio was more than willing to shield Eri from a potentally fatal blow from Overhaul, though this would get Subverted with Nighteye's own sacrifice.
  • Hope Bringer: He is able to inspire hope within many, believes that the heroes can win against Izuku, and he at several points in the story inspires and/or saves others. This is presumably why All Might named him his successor.
  • Nerves of Steel: He isn't the slightest bit intimidated by Midoriya.
  • Nice Guy: Has a constant upbeat attitude, and is one of the few on the side of good who still thinks Izuku can be redeemed.
  • The Pollyanna: Not even seeing Izuku overpower All Might, declare the hero a fugitive, and basically become nearly untouchable brings this guy's mood down.
  • Rage Breaking Point: Midoriya's complete Lack of Empathy towards Sir Nighteye's death enraged Mirio, causing him to drop his kind demeanor for the first time and nearly assault Izuku. With that said, he does calm down when Izuku explains himself (Though Mirio still thinks Midoriya's attitude towards human life was wrong.)
  • Wide-Eyed Idealist: Still believes that Izuku can be redeemed despite All Might's unsuccessful attempts.

    Hitoshi Shinsou

A member of U.A's General Education Course. Like in canon, he would make it to the final round of the U.A sports festival, only to lose to Katsuki. Encounters Izuku and Ochako during their visit to U.A, with the latter saving him from some bullies.

Heroes

    Enji Todoroki — Endeavor

The former Number Two hero and the father of Shoto Todoroki. Obsessed with being the best and going to truly deplorable lengths to accomplish that goal, for years Endeavor ran unchecked thanks to the Hero Public Safety Commission constantly covering him. That ended with the creation of the Hero Regulation Department, when its new director, Izuku Midoriya, had his Titan robots defeat him before taking his Quirk. Afterwards, he exposed Endeavor's crimes to the public, ensuring that the hero would never be able to live down the humiliation.

  • Adaptational Villainy/Adaptational Jerk Ass: Played with. In canon, Enji gains a Heel Realization once he realizes that all that effort he put into was All for Nothing in the end. He tries his best to atone for what he has done albeit it's a long and difficult road ahead of him because of the years of abuse he put his family through. It is implied however that Izuku calling him out has led him to stop and rethink his actions. Here? He never gains an epiphany and continues to pursue his obsession of being the best. Even after being stripped of his quirk, he hasn't changed his attitude at all.
  • Ambition Is Evil: His goal is to surpass All Might and be number one, by ANY means necessary.
  • Abusive Parents: He ruthlessly trained both Touya and Shoto to become heroes, using brutal methods to do so, all while remaining a complete Jerkass to both of them. It was so bad that Touya nearly committed suicide before becoming a villain. One of the reasons why Shoto threw in his lot with Izuku is because Izuku finally took his father down.
  • Asshole Victim: Considering what he has done to his family, let's just say not alot of people will shed tears over it.
  • Brought Down to Normal: Once he was stripped of his quirk, he is essentially this.
  • Cruel Mercy: The first victim to be subjected to Izuku's new hero standards.
  • De-power: His quirk was stripped from Izuku during their clash.
  • Hate Sink: Just an all around unpleasant person to be around with, and because he never had his Heel Realization, he remained this way up to, and after, being de-powered.
  • Jerkass: Despite being in the hero system, Enji is just outright rude and arrogant along with being a horrendous parent.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: Given the initial level of power that Midoriya displays when first confronting the heroes, he’s not exactly wrong in calling All Might out for holding back against the boy.
  • Keeping the Enemy Close: The implied reason why the commission covered for him so much. Endeavor, like Katsuki, could potentially turn to villainy if he was denied the chance to be a hero. With a Quirk as destructive as his, that would only end badly for everyone involved. Izuku manages to sidestep this by taking Endeavor's Quirk away.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: He prioritizes his ambition at being the best and surpassing All Might, Izuku stripping him of his hero status and quirk is truly a fitting punishment for him.
  • Make an Example of Them: The reason Izuku had him attend the unveiling of the Hero Regulation Department. Endeavor was the ideal choice: as the Number Two Hero, he was a public face that everyone recognized, and his crimes (Domestic Abuse) were the kind that any decent person would object to.
  • No-Nonsense Nemesis: Both times he attempts to fight Midoriya, he does not hold anything back, going all out from the start.
  • Playing with Fire: Before it was taken away, his quirk, Hell Flame, allowed him to manipulate fire.
  • Rejected Apology: On the receiving end of this. When he does finally reevaluate himself, he attempts to apologize to Todoroki. Unsurprisingly, his son doesn’t accept.

    Keigo Takami — Hawks

The Number Three, Number One after All Might and Endeavor were removed, hero, and an agent of the Commission. Hawks is one of the many Pro Heroes who seek to remove Izuku from power, and as such attempts to form a friendship with the boy while also infiltrating the League of Villains.

  • False Friend: Hawks, in his interactions with Izuku, comes off as both friendly and agreeable to what he is doing, but this couldn't be further from the truth. Hawks hates Izuku for what he's done, and is only befriending him to gather information about Izuku's activities and stab him in the back when he has enough to convict the villain.
  • Foil: To Mirio. Both are powerful Heroes who are aligned with some of Izuku's biggest targets, and both make an active effort to befriend the boy. However, while Mirio legitimately likes Izuku, sees the good in him, and wishes to redeem him, Hawks hates Izuku and wouldn't lose sleep if the boy never saw the light of day again.
  • Genre Savvy: As he points out to Ochako, Izuku comes off as the type of villain that would stab his close allies in the back to further his own agenda. Given how Izuku used All for One, is using the League for a currently unknown purpose, and used Toga to distract the Heroes without her knowingnote , Hawks was more than right in pointing this out.
  • Inconsistent Spelling: During his first appearance in the story, Hawks was spelled with an extra E in his name, the narration calling him "Hawkes". All other appearances after this have him with his canonical name.
  • The Mole: Like in canon, he is this to the League, but he is also trying to be this to Izuku and the HRD. That doesn't seems to be working as it's implied Izuku knows what Hawks is doing and is already making plans to take him down.
  • Villain Has a Point: Subverted. Hawks spends the entirety of his speech when he is announced as Number One thanking Izuku for everything he had done. In reality, Hawks was just doing that to suck up to Izuku.

    Mirai Sasaki — Sir Nighteye

A current Pro-Hero and All Might's former sidekick with whom he fell out with. In spite of their past, Nighteye ends up helping All Might in his plan to defeat Izuku once and for all, remaining in Japan to report on the villain.

  • An Arm and a Leg: Loses an arm after shielding Mirio from a fatal attack by Overhaul.
  • Combat Clairvoyance: His quirk, "Foresight", allows him to see into the future for a set amount of time. Not only does he use it to great effectiveness in combat, it also proves useful in knowing the set future for whoever he uses it on.
  • Enemy Mine: With Midoriya during the Intership Arc. Nighteye is not all all happy with the arrangement.
  • The Fatalist: Averted. The fact that Nighteye actually got over this despite his firm beliefs in You Can't Fight Fate should tell you just how desperate he and the Heroes are to defeat Midoriya.
  • Hero Antagonist: While Nighteye is hardly the only Hero against Midoriya's rule, after All Might and Bakugou were Put on a Bus he pretty much becomes the driving force against the villain. Sadly, however, this doesn't save him from getting his fatal injury from Overhaul.
  • It's Personal: What truly set Midoriya, to Nighteye, as not just another villain but instead someone Nighteye personally despises and will do everything to take down was the boys actions against All Might.
  • Killed Off for Real: Bites it during the aftermath of the Shie Hassaikai raid, just like in canon.
  • Oh, Crap!: Twice during Chapter 38
    • When Midoriya is seemingly killed by Overhaul, he can only stare in shock and horror.
    • Whatever he saw when he peered into Midoriya's future horrified him to the point where he made it his top priority to tell someone if he was to die.
  • Only Sane Man: Thus far, he's the only hero who hasn't underestimated Midoriya or overestimated himself and his abilities.
  • The Resenter: A heroic example. Unlike most characters who at least hold some recognition and even respect for Izuku's accomplishments and genius, Nighteye sees him as nothing but a thief who leeched off the hard work of others and stole what they deserved to obtain, and he believes that Izuku neither deserved nor should have been granted the power he was given.
  • This Cannot Be!: Says this nearly word for word after Midoriya is seemingly killed by Overhaul.
  • Tranquil Fury: Given that Midoriya injured and criminalized All Might, the man Nighteye looked up to most, he is understandably not a fan of the villain. Nighteye always talks to Midoriya with distain and venom in his tone whenever the two have to interact.

    Sorahiko Torino — Gran Torino

A retired Pro-Hero and All Might's Mentor.

  • The Mentor: Used to be All Might's teacher.
  • Hero with Bad Publicity: Becomes this after helping All Might and Bakugo escape from Izuku and being caught doing so by Izuku's Titans.
  • No Sympathy: He sees Izuku as a parasite and a leech who is no different from All For One, something that All Might calls him out on this by saying that he doesn't the real Izuku underneath the villainous persona.
  • Put on a Bus: Alongside All Might and Bakugo, he temporarily exits the story in Chapter 33.
  • Super-Speed: What makes him so important in the heroes fight against Midoriya. He was supposed to speed in, and snatch the Infinity Gauntlet off Midoriya. Too bad the Time Stone negates this.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Smacks All Might over the head for crushing Izuku's dreams and turning Izuku to a villain.

    Yu Takeyama — Mt. Lady

A relatively new Pro-Hero. She is accused of being a fake hero by Izuku and has her quirk taken away, effectively ending her Hero career.

  • Adaptational Jerkass: While her personality is identical to her canon counterpart, not only did she have a good reason to focus on fame in canon, note  but she also underwent character development that makes her come across as a true hero. Here, however, she lacks said motivation, and is shown to be nothing more than a celebrity playing hero. Even when she is offered a chance to get her quirk back, she instead attempts to slander Izuku.
  • Attention Whore: She bathes in attention, and focuses more on fame than actually being a hero.
  • Break the Haughty: Needless to say, Izuku taking her quirk away effectively broke her ego in half.
  • Brought Down to Normal: Has her quirk taken away. Given her Redemption Rejection, it's safe to say that this is permanent.
  • De-power: Her quirk is stripped away by Izuku.
  • Glory Seeker: Like her canon conterpart. It doesn't end well for her here.
  • Make an Example of Them: Mt. Lady was, in a lot of ways, the perfect hero for Izuku to target in order to show how ruthless he is towards fake heroes. She is a relatively new hero (Showing that Izuku doesn't discriminate based on age), she is very popular (proving that Izuku doesn't care about the popularity of the hero), and is an effective hero with a powerful quirk (showing that Izuku doesn't care for efficiency or power). The fact that Izuku offered her a chance to redeem herself (showing that Izuku isn't completely heartless) and that she attempted to slander Izuku was only icing on the cake. It's notable that her de-powering caused a huge attitude shift in many of Japan's heroes.
  • Oh, Crap!: Attempts to flee from Izuku after seeing Uwabami getting her quirk taken away. She doesn't get far.
  • Redemption Rejection: Izuku, in an act of kindness, offers to give Yu her quirk back so long as she does community service and turns her personality around to come across as a true hero. Instead of doing this, she attempts to slander Izuku.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: Appears for one chapter, but her de-powering, alongside Uwabami and Weather Dominator, not only causes a huge shift in attitude in Japan's heroes, but it's also the final straw to convince All Might to go after Izuku one last time.
  • Too Dumb to Live: To show how egotistical she really is, Mt Lady actually thinks she can push around the HRD's agents and bad mouth a government superior without consequence. Guillotine/Stain lampshades how idiotic that is.

    Gin Inochi — Weather Dominator

One of the three "false" heroes, alongside Mt. Lady and Uwabami, who Izuku targets and makes an example out of. Unlike the other two, whose crimes were based around being obsessed with fame, Gin was a legitimate criminal, using his quirk to create localized weather events and to extort agriculturists, all to make a profit.

Villains

The League of Villains

    All For One

A criminal mastermind that's been around since the Age of Quirks began, and the primary enemy of the bearers of One For All. However, no bearer has earned his hatred more than All Might, and since their fateful clash years ago, All For One has changed his objectives to spiting All Might as much as possible. Years later, after Izuku joined the League, his past with All Might caught All For One's attention, and soon he realized he had another way to hurt the Number One Hero.

  • Arch-Enemy: To All Might. The biggest reason why he was so supportive of Izuku and his ambitions was because he knew how much it was going to hurt All Might to learn that he made this Quirkless fan boy into an even worse villain than All For One.
  • The Dreaded: Being All Might's number one enemy is bound to cause fear among those who hear about him.
  • Evil Mentor: For Izuku. Not only did he voice his support to the boy, he even gave him tips and ideas about which mixtures of Quirks he should use to form the Infinity Stones, and he even gave the boy his own DNA, and quirk, for one of the stones.
  • Facial Horror: His clash with All Might in the past ends up with him lacking an eye and a nose. His face is nothing but a mouth with a large scar tissue where his eyes and nose should be.
  • Irony: Invoked, when he is re-imprisoned in Tartarus, All Might went to interrogate him for some information. All For One, out of spite, comments on the irony that he (a villain) believed that Izuku can achieve great things while All Might (a hero) crushed Izuku's dreams of being a hero.
  • Past Experience Nightmare: Is shown to have continuous nightmares of the events of his first battle with All Might.
  • Pet the Dog: Gave one to Izuku, telling Izuku that he believes in him was what made Izuku cried Tears of Joy. This is because for the longest time, up until then, no one had any faith in Izuku's goals.
  • Power Parasite: What makes All For One VERY dangerous is that his quirk allows him to strip another user's quirk and add it to his own arsenal.
  • Villain Cred/Villain Respect: When Izuku pays him a visit in prison, All For One at first thought Izuku was going to break him out. Upon learning of Izuku's plans, does he get angry? No, he bursts into laughter and praises Izuku for planning ahead and coming out on top regardless of the situation.
All For One: If my hands were free I'd applaud you.
    • Really, his opinion of Izuku as a whole. He knows for a fact that Izuku is going to achieve great things, and he even points out that if he hadn't found Tomura, he would've made Izuku his successor.
  • Villainous Breakdown: Suffered a massive one during his first battle with All Might after the latter continued to successfully overpower him. The story even describes him as being similar to a "helpless child" during this.
    HOW!?HOW!?HOW!?HOW!?HOW!?HOW!?HOW!?HOW!?HOWISTHISHAPPENING!?

    Tomura Shigaraki

Current leader of the League of Villains.

  • Make Them Rot: His decay Quirk
  • Green-Eyed Monster: Is clear that he is rather envious of Izuku's success, so much so that he seems to break his friendship with Izuku after the latter's successes.
  • Hair-Trigger Temper: Tomura Shigaraki has a very short fuse and if there is something he does not like it will set him off.
  • The Resenter: Shigaraki clearly shows envy towards Stain (and later, Izuku) for their successes.
  • We Used to Be Friends: Before Izuku's rise to power, Shigaraki was rather close to him, the two being comfortable enough around each other to joke around and play games. After Izuku's rise to power, Shigaraki seems to consider him nothing more than another obstacle, and wants nothing to do with him anymore.
  • Unwitting Pawn: As Nezu points out, he and the League are Izuku's "queen", sowing chaos around Japan so the public and the government would continue to turn a blind eye from the HRD's actions.

    Muscular

Another member of the League of Villains who participates in the attack on the U.A Training Camp.

  • An Arm and a Leg: Loses one of his arms during the battle against Izuku.
  • Body Horror: His Quirk, Muscle Augmentation, increases his physical strength and attack power. The only problem is that it rips out of his skin and covers it with muscle tissue.
  • Blood Knight: Would relish a good battle even if it jeopardizes the mission.
  • The Brute: All Brawn, no brains is basically the best way to describe him. Izuku even compares him to a "wild animal that needs to be defanged".
  • Eye Scream: Just like in canon, he is lacking a left eye during a clash with Kota's parents in the past.
  • Would Hurt a Child: Is willing to kill Kota for the shits and giggles.
  • The Worf Effect: While he did not go down easy, the fact that Izuku took him down with only one Stone proves just how powerful those things are.
  • Too Dumb to Live: Turning on Izuku just so he can kill Kota to satiate his bloodlust is a rather bone headed move as it ended with him losing one of his arms and a broken jaw in the end.

Shie Hassaikai

    General

One of the last surviving Yakuza groups after All Might's war against them. Serves as the main antagonists for the Intership Arc.

  • Brought Down to Normal: Yu Hojo ends up getting his quirk taken away by Izuku. Barely Subverted with Mimic, who would have suffered this same fate if Aizawa didn't interrupt.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: The Eight Bullets (With the exception of Katsukame, who went up against Ochako and Todoroki instead, and Nemoto, who was with Overhaul) and Mimic are on the recieving end after Midoriya challenges them. To be fair, it is implied that their canonical fights happened near identically to canon, and it was, well, Midoriya that they had to face.
  • Fate Worse than Death: Rappa would end up being "granted" a quirk that flattens his body into paper, leaving him unable to stand or even move.

    Kai Chisaki — Overhaul

The current leader of the Shie Hassaikai, a remnant of the formerly powerful Yakuza. A man who wishes to return the world back to it's quirkless state and to see the Shie Hassaikai returned to it's former glory, by any means necessary. Despite his best attempts to remain under the radar, he eventually catches the attention, and ire, of Izuku Midoriya.

  • Abusive Parents: It's not hard to see that he doesn't exactly treat Eri well. The girl refused to let go of Izuku for most of chapter 35, and only went back to Overhaul when the latter basically scared her into doing so without a word.
  • Alas, Poor Villain: His defeat as some shades of this, as his last thoughts before he fell unconscious were of how he failed his boss. And that's not even getting into his death, which, regardless of what he had done, was certainly undeserved.
  • Arc Villain: Like in canon, he serves as the primary antagonist for this story's version of the Internship Arc.
  • Asshole Victim: At first played straight, then ultimately Deconstructed. Chisaki's actions definity warranted his defeat and even getting his quirk taken away, but his over the top and needlessly cruel death at the hands of Izuku just looked like one big Kick the Dog, and only solidified Izuku's further descent into evil.
  • Big "NO!": After Izuku begins to take away his quirk.
  • Brought Down to Normal: Robbed of his quirk after Midoriya beats him. One can't say he didn't deserve it, however.
  • Consummate Liar: Chisaki was able to ward off suspicion of his abuse of Eri by lying about her quirk and claiming that her scars come from it, getting away from Izuku scot free. Izuku is even impressed by his sliver tongue. With that said, Izuku can clearly tell that he is lying, and it is implied that Mirio knows as well, it just that neither could do anything about it.
  • Death Glare: Shoots a particularly nasty one at Izuku after the former tells him that he could be arrested for child abuse.
    • He also gives an outright murderous one to Eri when Midoriya attempted to get her to tell him about Chisaki's abuse, which resulted in Eri lying and going back to the man.
  • Despair Event Horizon: Overhaul ends up near completely breaking after Midoriya's victory over him and after he lost his quirk, now believing that no one could ever beat the boy.
  • Did You Just Flip Off Cthulhu?: After getting Eri away from Midoriya, he gives the latter a very smug victorious smile.
  • Evil Versus Evil: Is set up as Midoriya's main enemy for the Internship arc.
  • Faux Affably Evil: He keeps an aura of politeness when talking to Midoriya and Mirio, but every word has a notable sharpness to it, not to mention that he is more than willing to drop this aura to taunt either of the boys.
  • Humiliation Conga: Once Izuku sets his sights on him, things go downhill for him very quickly.
    • Izuku reduces Eri from right under his nose, curb stomps him, and steals the man's quirk.
    • Shigaraki, as per canon, tears off his arms and steals Chisaki's quirk removing bullets, the very thing he'd devoted his life to perfecting.
    • Izuku then proceeds to put Chisaki through the exact same torture that he'd put Eri through a hundred times at minimum, and reduces him to a literal smear on the floor.
  • Karmic Death: He dies by being deconstructed and reconstructed by Izuku until he is nothing but a smear of flesh on the floor, the exact same hell he inflicted on Eri. Bonus points for Izuku doing this one hundred times, which Chisaki claims to have been the amount of times he used his quirk on Eri.
  • Killed Off for Real: He is the first person that Izuku directly kills in the course of the story.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: Izuku subjects him to the exact same disassembling/reassembling that he put Eri through a literal hundred fold.
  • The Leader: Serves as one to the Shie Hassaikai.
  • Oh, Crap!: Is quite tense throughout the entire initial confrontation with Midoriya, knowing full well of the boy's power and authority.
  • Smug Snake: Acts very smug after he managed to, at first, outplay Midoriya, something that the boy both notices and is greatly angered by.
  • Underestimating Badassery: Like so many others, in his first confrontation with Midoriya he he underestimates his quick thinking and influence and is put in a bad spot because of this. Unlike most others, however, he manages to recover, take control of the situation, and get away scot free, earning a victory over the supervillain.
  • Villainous Breakdown: After Midoriya begins to beat him, he becomes increasingly desperate and enraged. After the boy begins to take his quirk, he completely loses it and crosses his Despair Event Horizon.

    Hari Kurono — Chronostasis

A member of the Shie Hassaikai and Overhaul's right-hand man, currently only appearing in a flashback. During Apotheosis's stunt as a solo villain, Chrono attempted to force the boy into the Shie Hassaikai, ultimately failing due to the boy's lack of interest.

  • An Offer You Can't Refuse: After Midoriya rejected his offer to join the Shie Hassaikai, Chrono makes it very clear to the villain that neither he nor Overhaul were asking. Midoriya's friendship with the small time villain group he was interviewing was the only reason as to why he escaped being dragged to Chrono's boss.
  • The Dragon: Acts as this to Overhaul and the Shie Hassaikai as a whole.
  • Implied Death Threat: Gives a rather ominous final warning towards Midoriya after the villain refused his offer to join the Yakuza, mocked the organization, and forced him to leave.
Chronostasis "And just a fair warning Apotheosis, he'snote  anything but merciful to people that disrespect him."
  • Know When to Fold 'Em: Faced with the realization that he would have to fight an entire small time villain gang and Apotheosis to drag the latter back to Overhaul, as well as the possibility of getting multiple targets painted on the Shie Hassaikai's back, Chronostasis decisively backs out and flees.
  • That Wasn't a Request: Even if Midoriya refused his offer, Chronostasis had every intention to drag the boy kicking and screaming to Overhaul and either force him to join or kill him.
  • Tranquil Fury: After being outplayed and taunted by Izuku, his already cold tone gets even colder.

Others

    Inko Midoriya

The mother of Izuku Midoriya.

  • Even Evil Can Be Loved: Despite what Izuku has become, Inko still loves her son.
  • Good Parents: A loving mother to Izuku, even before Izuku descends to villainy.
  • Morality Pet: Like Ochako, Inko is the second person Izuku cares the most, so much so he assigned customized Titan units to protect her from the threats of both heroes and villains.
  • Parents as People: As much as Izuku loves his mother, he recognizes that she too had a part to play in his descent into villainy, because like everyone else, she didn't believe he could be a hero because of his Quirklessness. However, because she's his mother and that her belief was born out of concern and love, he's perfectly willing to ignore it.

    Eri

A mysterious young girl who Overhaul claims to be his daughter. She is actually the backbone of his operations, with her blood being the source of his quirk erasing bullets. After a long fight, she is rescued from the Shie Hassaikai by Izuku.

  • Bad Liar: Midoriya can very clearly tell that Eri is lying when she denies the idea that Overhaul is abusing her. Unfortunately, this denial leaves Midoriya unable to take the girl out of Chisaki's hands.
  • Broken Bird: The poor kid is very clearly deeply traumatized, fearing Overhaul enough to the point where she willingly lies to remain in his "care" so that others wouldn't be hurt.
  • Troubled Child: A young girl who appears to have some very deep trauma as a result of Overhaul. She clings onto Midoriya and refuses to let go, and only goes back to Overhaul out of fear for the safety of the people attempting to save her.
  • Underestimating Badassery: A Justified variant, given her trauma and sheltered life. Eri believes that her telling of the truth will result in Overhaul killing everyone attempting to rescue her, unaware that Mirio and especially Izuku are several tiers above the man in sheer power and skill.
  • When She Smiles: Her trauma from Overhaul makes it hard for her to smile. But when she does smile during UA's Cultural Festival, Izuku thinks it is truly heartwarming. During 1-A's performance, he at first doesn't think highly of it, but when he sees Eri smile for the first time since meeting her, he admits he might've misjudged the idea of the Cultural Festival, and he mentally thanks the hero students.

    Nana Shimura

The seventh holder of One for All, and All Might's mentor. While long dead by the time of the story, her ghost remains within the presence of One for All and soon makes herself known to Izuku.

  • All-Loving Hero: It's clear where All Might gets his attitude and personality from. Nana is so loving that she extends her sympathy towards villains.
  • Sympathy for the Devil: Nana is shown to have an immense amount of sympathy for tragic villains, knowing how unfair the world can be to people and how no amount of revenge in the world could satisfy their pain. She tells All Might that a true hero should save these villains instead of beating them down.
    • Later, when she reappears as a spirit, she is the only one of the members of One for All who wishes to save Izuku from his pain, even giving the boy a reassuring smile, despite knowing full well of the sins the boy had committed.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: A minor one, but with how disastrous their attempt at interfering with Izuku ended up being, her stating that the past user of One for All shouldn't have done so in the first place comes off as this.

    President Kaeko Takahashi

The current president of the Hero Public Safety Commission. She is much less than enthusiastic about Izuku and does everything she can to prevent him from getting power and influence.

  • Corrupt Politician: She only cares that public faith in heroes stays high, and she'll do almost anything to ensure it stays that way.
    • She covers up the failures of heroes, and how dark and cruel some heroes really are, like Endeavor.
    • She refused to cover insurance for a treatment for Tenya's brother because even if he got it he wouldn't be able to be a hero anymore.
      • She then used the money that would've been used for the treatment to pay off collateral damage for a fight that Endeavor was involved in.
  • Named by the Adaptation: Takahashi is completely unnamed in canon. Here, she is given one right off the bat.
  • Never My Fault: She blames Izuku for the public losing faith in the hero system. All the while pretty much ignoring that the system is flawed and corrupt.
  • Obstructive Bureaucrat: She does everything she can to impede Izuku, even at times when not doing so would be much more beneficial.
  • Spanner in the Works: She sends Hawks out to find the members of Izuku's Knights of Balance, hoping he can plant seeds of doubt and convince them to turn on him.

    Prime Minister Akira Toriyama

The current Prime Minister of Japan. After being forced into a lose-lose situation by Izuku and hearing out his plan, he creates the Hero Regulation Department, putting Izuku in charge of it. No relation to the manga creator of the same name.

  • The Alcoholic: Implied. The first thing he does when All Might meets with him to talk about Izuku is to pull out a glass of brandy.
  • Everyone Has Standards: He is completely horrified and disgusted when Izuku shows him Endeavor's history of abuse.
    • He very clearly hates the way quirkless individuals are treated in society, as well as being unable to do anything about it. This ends up being one of the reasons why he supports Izuku.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Very clearly regrets sending All Might into Izuku's trap, asking for his forgiveness after All Might departs from his office.
  • Shout-Out: Take a wild guess.
  • Villain Has a Point: Agrees with many of the issues that Izuku brings up and believes that he should be left alone as he has yet to do anything truly heinous.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Subverted and lampshaded. He admits that he could place the blame for Izuku's rise on All Might, but he acknowledges that All Might has probably heard it enough times from everybody else already, he couldn't have known the boy would snap so badly, and lastly, that the inferiority that the quirkless feel in hero society isn't just limited to Izuku.

    Mitsuki Bakugou
Katsuki Bakugou's mother.
  • Disappointed in You: Mitsuki is deeply ashamed towards Katsuki after learning about all of her son's actions, including his horrendous bullying on Izuku, from the latter's smear campaign against him.
  • Fantastic Racism: Mitsuki has some shades of this as she's completely opposed to Izuku's idea to strip Katsuki of his quirk. Izuku lampshades how Mitsuki views his punishment for her son as A Fate Worse Than Death.
  • Irony: Mitsuki believes there's good in Izuku, after seeing him looking after Eri. Unbeknownst to her, Izuku committed murder because of Eri, even if the victim he killed was a child abuser.
  • Mama Bear: Mitsuki is desperate to protect her son from receiving brutal punishment by Izuku. She even uses her friendship with Inko to get an audience with the boy.
  • Parents as People: Mitsuki's inability to control Katsuki is what leads him to become a vicious bully.

    Melissa Shield
Melissa Shield is a third-year student at I-Island Academy and the father of the scientist, David Shield.
  • Covert Pervert: She blushes when she notices a shirtless Bakugo.
  • Sympathy for the Devil: After going through some of Izuku's notes consisting of his analysis of Pro Heroes and their Quirks, Melissa couldn't help but feel sorry for the boy as she could relate to his troubles due to growing up Quirkless as well and was saddened to see someone with a brilliant mind like him become so twisted.
  • Teen Genius: She's one of the best students that I-Island has to offer and is one of the first people alongside her father to discover the basis of Izuku's Infinity Gauntlet.
  • Un-Sorcerer: Like Izuku, she's one of the few in the world to be born without a Quirk.
