open What’s the name of this show? Film
Hi, I wanted to ask you about a 90s maybe early 2000s kids TV show, however, I don’t remember almost anything. I only know there was a little boy who always came home after investigating some case and that there was a statue in the middle of the town he lived in. I believe it was animated. I think he always came home through back door. I will try to remember more. Thank you for any suggestion:)
Edited by CATastrophe013openCan't make new page Film
So I saw that there was an YMMV entry on the main Film.Hitchcock page (namely, Squick) and decided to move it to an YMMV page, but the YMMV.Hitchcock namespace appears to be blocked (apparently, it was once created but then cut because its sole content was a misplaced trivia trope). I looked on Administrivia.Locked Pages and Administrivia.Permanent Red Link Club and that particular page doesn't appear on either of them, so I think that there may be an error (especially since it's a page for a fairly non-controversial work, as far as I know, so there doesn't seem to be a reason to block a page related to it).
openAlmost Spoilers Off? Film
Stumbled upon the page for Star Trek: First Contact and I noticed that it has an unmarked spoilers warning, but it still says some spoilers will be marked?
Should we remove the handful of remaining spoiler tags and make it a Spoilers Off page, or should we just remove the warning?
This movie's over 20 years old, so we're long passed the point of having to be careful about spoiling it for people.
openYMMV edit for Sonic 2020 Film
I'd suggest adding Author's Saving Throw to the YMMV page for the film, mentioning the redesign, and how it was given more positive reception by fans.
open Old cartoon Film
Hi everyone! I'm looking for a very old cartoon I remember from my childhood. (One part picture, not a series). It must be over 30 years old. (VHS old ;)) There were three dogs that lost their owner. I think he was a homeless guy (I remember the bottle lying next to his body). The dogs than go seperate ways. I remember it beeing very sad. I think one of the dogs was female. That's all I remember.
openAvengers: Age of Ultron Nightmare Fuel page Film
Why was the Nightmare Fuel page for Avengers: Age of Ultron cut? Personally, I felt it had excellent examples.
openA Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood Film
The film is released now. Having it sit as a dead page seems untoward.
openTrivia as regular entries Film
I've finished notes for One Cut of the Dead and realise one, simple issue. This story involves a metric trainload of Trivia tropes that happen in-universe to be noted and listed. Is there a way to do it without getting instant icon mark-up for things like Troubled Production or Wag the Director? Otherwise the page for it will be a really long list of Trivia mark-ups
Edited by DratewkaopenSplitting a page? Film
As of right now, the Film page for the Mohs Scale of Violence Hardness (Mohs Scale Of Violence Hardness/Film) has a message saying that it's too long when going in to edit it. I think it may need to be split, similar to the way that the Mohs Scale Of Rock And Metal Hardness is (for example, a page for levels 0-5 and one for levels 6-10). The page contains some entries without notes that I would like to add notes for, to give some context (as well as adding new entries). So, what I'm trying to say is, how is a page split?
Edit: trying to fix the link to the Film/Mohs Scale of Violence Hardness page
Edited by TheHestinatoropenWeird grammar changes Film
The user alalahoward99 has been changing words around on the Breakaway Pop Hit pages to things that don't really make any grammatical sense. (For instance, the phrase "tacked onto the soundtrack" was changed to "aimed onto the soundtrack", "turgid" was changed to "tumid", "god" to "inmortal" (sic) and some other words were changed to other synonyms for no real reason). They've also removed several links to pages like Alanis Morissette. None of their edits have edit reasons, and I've noticed similar issues with their other edits. On the main Breakaway Pop Hit page, they've changed every instance of "add" to "count", even when it doesn't make sense to do so. I've fixed some of the changes on the Live Action Film subpage, but some of the other pages in their edit history may need to be looked at too.
Edited by thelivingtoadopenA DMOS entry for Frozen 2 being removed Film
bookworm 11 has just removed a The Lucky Cat's Dethroning Moment of Suck page for Frozen II with them claiming only one moment allowed and that the entries are but the thing is, the troper who added this page didn't even have another entry in the page not to mention that regardless of what was stated are true or not, it's their own opinion they can do whatever they want. Here's the entry in question before it's removed:
- The Lucky Cat: This movie is such a mess when it comes to plot, but definitely my biggest gripe is how rushed the climax is. After Elsa "dies", Olaf begins to melt and Anna sings a song about her grief. Then she has a vision of her grandfather killing the tribe leader while his back was turned. Which already comes off like kind of an Ass Pull, because how does she know it's a trustworthy vision? But she deduces that in order to lift the curse on the forest, she has to destroy Arendelle dam. So she gets the earth ogres or whatever they are to chase her to the dam, only to be blocked by her father's kingsguard. She explains to them that they need to destroy the dam because her grandfather betrayed the tribe and Elsa died to learn this information. The Kingsguard instantly believe Anna, because...reasons? Seriously, they instantly take her word for it because she's her father's daughter. They don't question how she knows Elsa's dead, how Elsa died, how she knows these visions are valid or how she can be sure flooding Arendelle is really the solution. So the earth orges manage to destroy the dam, Anna falls, on no! Oh...Kristoff and the head guard saved her, nevermind. Then a giant flood comes to destroy Arendelle! Oh, nevermind, Elsa freezes the waves by arriving just in time on her magical ice horse. (Okay, admittedly that bit is pretty cool.) Then Anna gets made into Queen of Arendelle because Elsa wants to go live with her mother's tribe instead. I'm sorry, but Anna's actions in this movie really don't make her seem like she'd be a suitable Queen. She constantly prioritises clinging onto her sister over Arendelle's future, like when she gets mad at Elsa for making Kristoff take her out of the forest (when Elsa rightly points out Anna has no powers, Anna replies that didn't stop her chasing Elsa in the previous movie, even though doing that meant she'd left Hans in charge and got struck in the heart for her troubles), then she tries to follow Elsa to the iceberg that contains the mystery of her parents. Again, Elsa points out that they can't both go, but it never seems to occur to Anna that if both of them died out there (and Elsa comes very close), the family line is extinguished and it would leave Arendelle ripe for someone like Hans or the Duke of Weselton to come and take it with nobody on the throne, but it takes Elsa putting Anna and Olaf in a boat and sending them back down the mountain to get rid of Anna at all and Anna still doesn't concede that maybe Elsa insisting someone stay behind to watch over their people is a sensible idea. But she's just made into Queen because yadda yadda, two bridges between clans, blah blah. Considering the movie felt like it had time to waste in the beginning with the characters farting around playing charades or Kristoff singing a love song with a bunch of reindeer, the pacing is shockingly bad.
What do you guys think? Did the moment felt specific enough? Do they broke any of the established DMOS rules?

openSequelitis entry for ''Frozen II'' being readded again Film
cerealking has previously added a Sequelitis entry for Frozen II under the Sequelitis.Disney but the entry has been moved to Contested Sequel since it fits under that trope better. However, cerealking has just readded the entry back with a text that I felt is a Justifying Edit:
- The feature-length sequel, Frozen 2 , also hasn’t been as warmly received as the first film note 78% to 90% on Rotten Tomatoes by professional critics. Reviews have praised its ambition, willingness to tackle more mature themes, art, performances, and music. However it’s been criticized for being a bit needlessly dark, having a convoluted plot, some questionable character decisions, and aping plot points from Avatar: The Last Airbender and its Sequel Series The Legend of Korra . Essentially critics are appreciative of the creative team trying to do something bigger and different but feel like it’s just not as well executed. That being said, this is also Critical Dissonance as it's been better-received by general audiences and would fit more along the lines of a Contested Sequel with them.
Sequelitis is if the sequel is universally agreed to be inferior to the original but there are some fans that regarded Frozen II to be superior to the original while others don't which this trope isn't what it's about.
Edited by Loekman3openPage quote of Thor: Ragnarok Film
I recently removed potholes in the page quote to other MCU movies. Editor ShaiPa put them back while citing What to Put at the Top of a Page as edit reason:
- "Page quotes should not have any trope potholes in them, although it is okay to link to a work or genre which is referenced directly."
Beyond the minor edit warring, I think this sentence is misinterpreted: "referencing directly" a work or genre means putting its actual name in the quote, in which case it is okay to have a link. An oblique reference to another work is still not okay to link with a pothole. Am I right?
openPsychotronic Movies Film
I was going through the keywords for Avengers: Endgame on IMDb, as one does, and I saw a word I never saw before - Psychotronic.
I looked up the definition. It said that Psychotronic Movies are a "denoting to a genre of film, either sci-fi, horror, or fantasy, that were made on a low budget or poor received by critics".
I felt this was odd. Many of the Marvel Cinematic Universe films are big budget films filled with bombast and over-the-topness and have broken box office records and have gone over well with critics. As have (most) of the Star Wars films. And E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial. And Jurassic Park. And the The Exorcist. And several entries in the Disney Animated Canon
So I'm very confused why those movies would be categorized along side stuff like Attack of the 50 Foot Woman, Attack of the Killer Tomatoes!, Manos: The Hands of Fate, and Howard the Duck.
Psychotronic movies have several of the Cult Classic or Camp variety, but tons of films that have done gangbusters at the box office. I'm legitimately perplexed yet at the same time wondering if there should be a trope category regarding this. What do you all think?
Edited by bmoore4026openQuestionable Star Wars trivia removal Film
The following entry was removed by Phoenixion from Trivia. The Rise Of Skywalker:
- Creator Backlash: Oscar Isaac and John Boyega were both interested in having Poe and Finn become a couple due to their chemistry in previous films; Isaac would later publicly accuse people (whether referring to the filmmakers or the fans isn’t clear) of being “too afraid” to have a gay couple as leading characters in the franchise.
The edit reason given was:
Troper's personal page opens with a rant about how TV Tropes is "too gay" and that we "[shouldn't] blame [him] for being borderline homophobic!" (EDIT: As pointed out below, he also claims to block anyone who PMs him and immediately delete all messages without reading them.)
The first half of the edit reason is a huge can of worms I won't open, but the second half I disagree with; Lando's sexuality is never really on display in the film beyond some vaguely flirtatious mannerisms and only came from some ambiguous Word of Dante; the actors mentioned in the entry have been very vocally supportive of a romance between the two characters in interviews and Isaac's quote about how "people are too afraid" is real.
Edited by Dirtyblue929openDoes this count as an Edit War? Film
There's this entry in Spider-Man Trilogy:
"Ron the Death Eater: Mary Jane has been on the receiving end of this treatment by some people who like to claim that she is a horrible person who treats Peter like crap, especially in the third film. These fans will usually ignore how Peter put his own needs before hers and never really considered what she was going through during the movie because his newfound respect from the city has gotten to his head. And they also ignore when she tries to be there for him, even admitting that she overreacted, but he shuts her out. Basically, they both are equally accountable for their relationship falling apart in the movie, but try telling that to those individuals."
I intend to cut this entry because it merely points out that some fans hate a character for misguided reasons, but the page for Ron the Death Eater plainly states that the trope is specifically about fanworks that turn canonically good characters into villains.
The problem is I checked the page's edit history and found out a troper had previously deleted this example, only for another one to restore it shortly after. They then started editing the page over and over, making no changes to the text, but leaving behind enormous edit reasons as they discussed the entry with one another.
So what would be the correct procedure here? Can I delete it or should I try contacting them first?
The Widows page covers the 2018 Steve Mc Queen film.
The film is based off of the book and television series by Lynda La Plante.
I was wondering if it would be possible to add stuff related to the original television series and novels (Widows, Widows Revenge, and She's Out)
If allowed, I would like to ask if any UK Tropers familiar with the series could help?
