Have a question about how the TVTropes wiki works? No one knows this community better than the people in it, so ask away! Ask the Tropers is the page you come to when you have a question burning in your brain and the support pages didn't help.
It's not for everything, though. For a list of all the resources for your questions, click here. You can also go to this Directory thread

openMain vs YMMV
Common Crossover is listed under Main. Should it be? Shouldn't it be YMMV? What about Doppelgänger Crossover, which is split between canon and fan examples?
openWriting The Player Character's Name In Quotes
This might be a silly question, but ...
So far, whenever writing quotes from Alex, the Player Character of Code 7, I've been writing the name as You. I've seen that done in a couple other game examples on here, and it's like this in the game's subtitles/output log, too. All the things Alex says are chosen by you, after all.
But I've just realized that's probably wrong, and confusing as well. So, is it OK if I write quotes like this:
Or am I right in assuming I've been doing it wrong, and should change them, like this:
openKing or lord something (Generic boy name) Live Action TV
Its about a normal high school boy who meets a middle princess or knight (she had armor on) she had a old man as a companion. They time traveled or came form another world I dont know. But he had to put up with showing her modern day things and life style. They had to fight what looked like an evil wizard or witch more on the witch side I think. The main characters name was in the name of the show. King or lord something with a modern generic name.
openMissing Work Page
Sex, Drugs, and Rock & Roll is a trope, but it has Awesome, Funny and Heartwarming pages that imply there should be a work page, but there's none.

openStub trope?
This is the entirety of Entrance:
A strong entrance has several components. The character has to be in frame alone. The introduction of the character has to imply a major change to the situation as it is presently understood by the audience. It has to have a zinger line.

No edit history (made in 2008, last edited 10 years ago), and has only 5 wicks (one of them on the Definition Only pages, but it still seems a bit underfed even for that index).
Edited by Chabal2openStrong Flesh, Weak Steel might have incorrect examples.
The first paragraph of the trope is "In certain kinds of games, it is inexplicably easier to destroy something made of armored steel, like a tank, than to destroy an ostensibly flesh and blood character (often a boss of some sort), even without specialized weaponry."
That makes it sound like the trope requires there to be no reason for this to be the case, but some of the examples have a reason they can break steel, for instance: in the second Star Wars example;
- Obi-Wan does something similar in the Novelization of Revenge of the Sith when he ends up in a wrestling match against the cyborg General Grievous.
But Obi-Wan's arm had the Force to give it strength, and the general's arm only had the innate crystalline intermolecular structure of duranium alloy.Grievous's forearm bent like a cheap spoon.
- Obi-Wan does something similar in the Novelization of Revenge of the Sith when he ends up in a wrestling match against the cyborg General Grievous.
In this case it explicitly says that the Force gave him strength.
Should these examples be removed?

Why does Anime.Jo Jos Bizarre Adventure link to Manga.Jo Jos Bizarre Adventure instead of having its own separate page?
openProofreading
Can anyone proofread the pages for these two works?
I wrote those entirely by myself - the second is my own work - so I want to check if the tropes and/or the examples are appropriate.
openNear edit war
User Baroquebro https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Tropers/baroquebro deleted the Ship Tease trope on the gym leaders page a while back claiming that it's a ymmv just because it's shipping. Originally he left me alone about for a while, four months ago to be precise, but he brought it up again still claiming that it's ymmv because it's shipping despite the fact that the trope is about characters in universe implying it. Can someone please talk to him to try explaining it. I'm tired of dealing with him.
openZCE and mod note deletion
Dongwa Chan deleted what appears to be every commented-out trope (adding context to others, and adding some non-ZCE examples) on Literature/Redwall, including the note at the top warning against ZC Es.

Edited by Chabal2openMLP:FIM - Light Episodes vs. Dark Episodes
I've been having My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic and the Darker and Edgier aspect of it on my mind quite a bit lately, and I've been wondering about exactly what percentage of the show (as well as every individual season) can be considered lighthearted and what percentage can be considered dark. However, I've been doing a lot of intentional shoehorning when it comes to "dark", as I've been counting not just the villain episodes, but also 1) Any time there is ANYTHING threatening Equestria (i.e. the parasprites in "Swarm of the Century", the hydra in "Feeling Pinkie Keen") and 2) Any time ANY CHARACTER undergoes a Sanity Slippage (not just the obvious ones like "Party of One" and "Lesson Zero", but also episodes like "The Best Night Ever", "It's About Time", and "Tanks for the Memories"). I've actually been wondering mainly about the Sanity Slippage moments and whether it's really a good idea to consider every single episode where a character has one as "dark".
openTumblr Sandboxing
Does anyone think the Sandbox for Tumblr and its YMMV page is ready to go? If no, looking for suggestions. Would like to go ahead and apply the same strip-down and re-haul of the other pages ASAP, too.
openIs there a cleanup thread for the Even Evil Has Standards trope?
As noted in Square Peg, Round Trope, the trope Even Evil Has Standards tends to get a lot of misuse. In particular, several officially approved Complete Monster characters are listed as having this even though the very nature of a CM forbids them from having standards- usually, it turns out to be misuse. Is there a place I can ask about this?
openHow to make a trope have two names?
I just launched Embarrassing Pyjamas and, while it was on TLP, people said that it should have a second name, Embarrassing Pajamas. I wasn't sure how to make a trope with two names, so someone suggested I make a red link on my Tropers page and edit that, but I can't; it takes me to the main page for Trope Launch Pad instead.
openAudience Alienating Premise misuse?
- The Simpsons: The episode "The Principal and the Pauper" revealed that Principal Skinner's Backstory was actually a lie. According to this episode, Skinner was actually Armin Tamzarian, who assumed the identity of his superior officer, Sgt. Seymour Skinner, after he was seemingly killed in action in The Vietnam War. Fans reacted negatively, finding this totally out of place in the series, especially one that never particularly cared about continuity. Simpsons creator Matt Groening and Skinner's voice actor Harry Shearer have been very vocal about their disdain for the episode, with Shearer saying "It's like punishing the audience for paying attention." It is since regarded as one of the worst episodes, if not the worst, is the series, and the writers largely pretend that this episode never happened, with a latter one even having a blink-and-you'll-miss-it scene showing a kid Skinner alongside Agnes (which retcons this whole mess out of existence... probably). The later episode "Behind the Laughter" dismissed the events of the episode as "gimmicky" and the plot as "nonsensical".
I believe the trope can only apply to whole works, not individual episodes. Is that so? I also intend to cut as unless that was officially revealed before the episode aired it not this trope as it has to drive audiences away before they decide to see the work. Objections to cutting?
I ask here because the Audience-Alienating Premise cleanup threads have been long inactive.
Edited by Ferot_DreadnaughtopenIn-universe Complete Monster
In The Three Musketeers, Milady de Winter presents the duke of Buckingham as a serial rapist who kidnaps young women, drugs and rapes them while they're unconscious before trying to get them to consent, and has them branded as (French, so there'll be no records of them being innocent in England) criminals to ensure not only that he won't be troubled (their stories will be dismissed out of hand) but to further twist the knife in his victims.
The thing is, it's pure BS in-universe (she's pushing Felton, who already hates Buckingham for political and religious reasons, into thinking him a Karma Houdini monster who doesn't deserve to live), so can it go on the main page as invoked Complete Monster?
