Yeah, I agree completely. For instance, the console version of Transformers: Rise of the Dark Spark is a pretty big example (The WFC crew being a total Spotlight-Stealing Squad for instance and it being pretty obvious all the assets for the movie crew are taken from the WFC games (e.g. Grimlock)) but I think the page at one point used the Teen Titans 2003 video game as the image on the main page and I've seen cutscenes on You Tube and didn't think it was all that bad. I think we should clear it up to focus on if the game is actually bad and not just So Okay, It's Average as mentioned.

Hi!Is there anybody else in agreement? I have no stance on this issue at the moment, but I'm curious to see what other people think about this.
This is Idol Tap. (My Troper Wall)There's been talk of taking The Problem with Licensed Games to TRS to be moved to Darth. I have an open wick check from two years ago that I haven't touched in a while—others are free to finish it as I have other projects I want to work on first.

TRS Queue | Works That Require Cleanup of Complaining | Troper WallOver in the complaining thread, there were some concerns regarding the "Problem With" entry for Kinnikuman: Muscle Tag Match / M.U.S.C.L.E. being too complaint-heavy. I tried making a rewrite to remove the complaints, but as someone who hasn't played the game, I don't know if I conveyed enough of its problems.
Kinnikuman: Muscle Tag Match for the Famicom, or M.U.S.C.L.E., on the NES was the first Famicom game published by Bandai, and it shows. It is a wrestling game with eight different playable characters, but all of them share the same small pool of basic moves. Thanks to a combination of the poor controls and the tiny character sprites, it's near impossible to do anything intentionally as you fight your opponent, making the game difficult to play properly.
Ever wanted to see the most inexplicably horrifying intro to a game ever? While browsing the stuff on Disney as well as No Problem with Licensed Games, Chicken Little: Ace in Action apparently counts as an example of both. Also, for Finding Nemo, one of the flaws is "obvious sound-alike voice actors", which to me, is way too bashy for a common trope in movie video games.
Hi!I agree with this sentiment. No Problem with Licensed Games is already on Sugar Wiki because it's an inherently gushy concept.
I'd like to apologize for all this.I'd say moving to Darth Wiki, as No Problem with Licensed Games is already on Sugar Wiki, and the trope is about declaring a licensed game bad.
Guy in the back alleys.Darth seems appropriate.
I had a dog-themed avatar before it was cool.I think that's right too.
The best character is always the one-shot disguise.Agree with moving to Darth
"Leftover items still have value!"That would require TRS.
On a related note, I'm thinking of restarting my wick check because I don't trust 2021 me's judgement on wicks—but I don't want to piss off all the people who chipped in to the current one. What should I do? Delete all the wicks I added and re-check them?
TRS Queue | Works That Require Cleanup of Complaining | Troper WallMaybe. Both for confirmation, and if to see something I need to point out, the fact most of the problematic examples you found were ZCE cases, showing that might be a bigger issue than complaining (many of the complaining ones at least spell out the problems with the games).
Not sure if it needs to be a Darth Wiki page (there are still mainspace pages on media gone bad like Sequelitis), but rewrites are surely necessary, to cut on the negativity (not every example needs to be written as if it was a video review show!), cases that are other tropes, and those that somehow are on No Problem With Licensed Games as well.
I recommend Finding Nemo, given it's on both pages and the one for "The Problem with Licensed Games" says one of the "problems" (and I use that term loosely) is "obvious replacement voice actors" despite the fact that most licensed games use regular voice actors instead of celebrity ones (e.g. Phil LaMarr serving as The Other Darrin to Marty in Madagascar and Oscar in Shark Tale.
Hi!In addition, Toy Story 2 is another game that's on both pages.
Hi!Remember that for multiplats, one version of a game can be great and another can be complete crap.
I had a dog-themed avatar before it was cool.Yeah, only the Game Boy Color port of TS 2 is bad. The console version is widely considered a classic.
I've played the N64 version of Toy Story 2 and I remember it being really good. IIRC reviews were positive as well.
TRS Queue | Works That Require Cleanup of Complaining | Troper WallAll right, what about Finding Nemo? If anything, the "obvious replacement voice actors" should be removed for feeling like a complaint about a very common thing in licensed games.
Hi!I always thought that this trope should be Flame Bait and relegated to Darth Wiki pages only.
Thomas fans needed! Come join me in the the show's cleanup thread!Bumping this thread to see about finishing up the wick check for TRS. Then we can decide on what the write up should be.

NoProblemWithLicensedGames.Western Animation has a lot of shoehorned complaining about licensed games other than those being praised on the page, some of it on lone sub-bullets:
- Adventure Time: Hey Ice King! Why'd You Steal Our Garbage?!! is an enjoyable Zelda II clone with good writing, fun music, and fairly good graphics. It's very short, though, so one should probably enjoy it while it lasts.
- Its second game Explore the Dungeon Because I DON'T KNOW! however...Lone sub-bullet dedicated to complaining about another game.
- The makers of Beavis and Butt-Head In: Virtual Stupidity were explicitly told that they could rush a crap game out the door since it would sell anyway. Their response: "Uh, no." They proceeded to make one of the finest point and click adventure games ever, complete with the original voice actors, original animation, and even bonus music video segments.
- The Sega Genesis and SNES games, on the other hand.... Lone sub-bullet dedicated to complaining about another game.
- Cartoon Network: Punch Time Explosion XL is a good Super Smash Bros.-like game with many different playable CN characters. It is not without its flaws, however. I'm probably nitpicking here, but to me, it doesn't make sense to end the entry on such a negative note. At least explain what the glitches are.
- Ed, Edd n Eddy: The Mis-Edventures is a respectable game adaptation of the series, perfectly capturing the look, feel and humor of the show, and throwing it all into an enjoyable, if short, platformer. The Game Boy Advance version of the game ends up being a completely different game in its own right, despite mildly sharing some of the plot with the console versions (it also ended up being much better than the other GBA game released, which is a lot worse). Ends on a needless potshot.
- Ed, Edd n Eddy: Scam of the Century for the Nintendo DS has a rather split opinion surrounding it. Some think it's a surprisingly good platformer with an interesting plot that stays close to the show, while others have called it out for having uninspired levels and Difficulty Spikes. If it's that divisive, what's it doing here? Also, lone sub-bullet.
- (Omitting the Nicktoons Racing example due to length...)
- Its second sequel, Nicktoons Nitro, is even better than Racing, being developed by esteemed arcade manufacturer Raw Thrills, and featuring a darker atmosphere, having faster and more high-flying gameplay, better tracks, and characters including not only the original cast from Nicktoons Unite! (SpongeBob, Timmy Turner, Danny Phantom, and Jimmy Neutron), but also Zim and Aang! Too bad it was never ported to home console. The game that came between these, however (Nicktoons Winners Cup Racing), has been largely forgotten, and probably for the better. Ends on a needless potshot.
- Konami and Treasure's games based on the Tiny Toon Adventures and Animaniacs franchises were decent games in their own right — and quite faithful to the source material's visual and musical style, at that. Unfortunately, the same can't be said about the later games of the series made by Warthog Games (with one noted exception below) and Terraglyph. Ends on a needless potshot.
- (Long Defenders of the Universe example...)
- Tiny Toon Adventures: Buster's Bad Dream for the GBA is also decent, if underwhelming and challenging. More complaints than praise. Also, lone sub-bullet.
- (Long Defenders of the Universe example...)
- While the PS2 and Xbox versions of the Xiaolin Showdown game belong on the other page, the DS version is surprisingly decent. Unlike the horrid PS2 and Xbox versions, the DS version has enjoyable gameplay, is somewhat challenging (and you actually can die in this version), and the levels aren't restricted to a rectangular box. You've already told us the first two games are worse — you don't need to use language like "horrid" to reiterate your point.

"As long as I have my comrades with me, I can do anything!" (She/Her) (Current Focus: Cleaning Hell Is That Noise misuse)All those potshots could probably be removed, though that would leave some entries as ZCEs.
As an aside, I would have to agree that TPWLG being a Darth Wiki item would make more sense than it being YMMV, if only because it's far too easy to misuse it for complaining.
"As long as I have my comrades with me, I can do anything!" (She/Her) (Current Focus: Cleaning Hell Is That Noise misuse)I found this on YMMV.Motorstorm
- The Problem with Licensed Games: In case you were unaware that Motorstorm R.C. was brought to you by Scion, the loading screens will gladly remind you that "MOTORSTORM R.C. WAS BROUGHT TO YOU BY SCION AND YOU WOULD BE EXTREMELY COOL IF YOU OWNED A SCION SO YOU SHOULD BUY ONE!" Motorstorm R.C. isn't just brought to you by Scion, its also a Motorstorm game In Name Only. Also the Scion handles better than all the unlicensed Expy cars... I wonder why.
- By the game design that's averted: all vehicles from a class should have the same speed and handling, only changing hitboxes and little nuances.
The Problem with Licensed Games (and to a lesser extent, No Problem with Licensed Games) has an abundance of Zero-Context Examples, overly-complainy writing, listing games that are just So Okay, It's Average or Downplayed Examples, and severe misuse of Web Links Are Not Examples. This trope has apparently been discussed in TRS before (though I couldn't find any mentions even with the search function), and while the page is a bit better than it was in the past, I still think it could use some cleaning up.
In addition, due to its nature as a YMMV trope, there are numerous examples that are listed on both TPWLG and NPWLG, or games listed on TPWLG being called aversions of the trope on their own YMMV pages, so we may need to find the consensus on more divisive games to decide where they belong or if they're merely So Okay, It's Average.
I thought I'd start with the Video Games folder since it's the shortest:
- Pac-Man on Atari is Porting Disaster, not this trope.
- Frogger: The Great Quest is Sequelitis and a bad example of Video Game 3D Leap, not this trope.
- Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric definitely counts (though I seem to recall Boom being advertised as a whole Alternate Continuity and sub-franchise and not just the cartoon), but the example as written reads more like a List of Transgressions and should be condensed.
- The Nintendo CD-i games count, but the note about them being "utter crap" is natter and could be toned down.
Feel free to bring up any other examples that need fixing - there are more entries I'd like to bring up but those can wait for now.Edited by SpongeBat1 on Jan 17th 2024 at 3:24:08 AM
