Old Magnificent Bastard thread

Welcome to the Magnificent Bastard proposal thread! This is the thread where new Magnificent Bastard examples are vetted, approved, and written up. If you're looking for the general cleanup thread (for cuts, rewrites, expansions, and the like), please go here

Important: Before suggesting any new examples, please read the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List; if you have any questions, the odds are high they are answered there. Additionally, please check here for the earliest date a work can be discussed (usually two weeks from the U.S. release date) and whether the work has already been reserved by another user.

Here is how the process works:

    Process

  1. If you have a candidate to propose, you can simply come right in and propose them! If the character's run is brief, such as a single issue of a comic book, then a simple summary of their actions and any potential mitigating features will be enough; for longer-running candidates, an effortpost (EP) might be helpful for organizing the proposal. An EP is not outright required, but please be mindful that if a post becomes too clunky and unorganized, it can be very hard for other people to follow.

  2. After the proposal, there will be a 72-hour discussion and voting period, where people may ask questions and vote on the candidate. The number of upvotes must outnumber the downvotes by at least five for the character to be considered "approved".

  3. Three days after the proposal has been made, if the character has been approved, you may post the writeup (the text to be posted on the trope page itself) on the thread and send it to the drafts page. Your candidate will soon be added to the MB subpage. If the work has a page, you should add your candidate to the relevant YMMV page. Voila! It's that simple!

Outside of this process, we do have a few ground rules:

    Ground Rules

  1. To keep the thread moving at a reasonable pace, there are some restrictions on when a proposal can be made. There should only be a maximum of four EPs posted both per page and per hour to ensure that nothing gets lost in the shuffle; additionally, each individual troper should only be proposing or writing up characters from a maximum of three works at a time (from initial proposals to end of their voting period). If your proposal would fall outside of either of these guidelines, we'd like to ask you to please wait until they would fit within; feel free to type them up on an outside document, and then when the time comes, you can just copy, paste, and post!

  2. No plagiarism of any kind. This is a very serious matter site-wide, as the website could get in actual legal trouble over this; as a result, this can very quickly lead to mod intervention. This can take many different forms:
    1. Direct plagiarism, i.e. wholesale copying. This is not only the easiest to find, but is also the most likely to warrant quick moderator intervention. To be clear, quoting in some places is perfectly acceptable, but it has to be very clear you're quoting from something else and it cannot be anything longer than a sentence or two - if you're quoting an entire work summary from Wikipedia, no one is going to believe you've actually consumed the work, so even if you cite your source, your candidate will be downvoted anyway.
    2. Self-plagiarism. Even if you can prove that you wrote the same text in both places, the site itself can't contain any of the duplicated text. If you already wrote something once before, it's not too hard to write it a second time.
    3. Using another site's work as a template for a proposal. Just because you don't copy and paste something directly doesn't mean it's any harder to detect if you're basing parts or all of your proposal on text someone else wrote. To be clear, this doesn't violate site rules and won't lead to mod intervention, but just like if you directly plagiarize, no one will believe you've consumed the work if you're clearly basing your proposal on something else. This thread largely operates on the honor system, and tweaking someone else's work to pass it off as your own is one of the fastest ways to lose trust.

  3. Votes must be for specific candidates, meaning no blanket voting (i.e. "yes to everyone I missed").

  4. If you are the first person to downvote a candidate, please provide an explanation of why when you do so. We're here for discussions above all, and a hit-and-run downvote doesn't facilitate anything.

  5. If a work is already reserved by another user, please don't comment on the work or any potential characters worth discussion before the discussion date. We know how exciting it is when a work has a keeper that you're waiting to talk about, but it's not fair to the person who reserved the work who is just as excited to lead the discussion to see the discussion getting spoiled before they get to do it. On the other hand, if the reservation only has one name attached, shoot them a PM - they may be down for a collaboration, which will get you in on the fun as well!

  6. Please keep the thread on-topic. While discussing the trope is fun and we encourage people to enjoy it, questions like "who's your favorite MB" are off-topic and can lead to thumps. That's the kind of question to take to people's PMs if they're willing. Similarly, while we encourage friendliness and familiarity with other users, posts should always have some kind of thread-relevant purpose; for instance, if you want to wish someone a happy birthday, feel free to, but if it's the only thing in the post, it's off-topic and needs something else alongside it. Again, though, while we strive for a friendly atmosphere, this is not Facebook; life updates are fun, but unless they have some kind of impact on your thread participation, please do not bring it here - we have Yack Fest for that.

  7. Please refrain from asking anything along the lines of "How Did We Miss This One?" In almost every case, the answer is simply "No one thought about it before". This Is a Wiki where everyone has different interests, and the fact that people missed a particular candidate, even one that seems like a textbook example of a trope or a character who is particularly iconic in pop culture, means absolutely nothing. The question is disruptive, has a simple and consistent answer, and provides nothing to any discussion.

  8. If you are suspended from other parts of the website, it is still possible to participate!
    1. For users who are suspended from editing the wiki, you still have full access to this thread. You can propose candidates and write them up with no issues whatsoever; while you will have to ask someone else to post the entry to the relevant pages once it is done, all write-ups are considered thread-approved - as in, done by consensus - and thus doing so does not violate any rules regarding meatpuppeting.
    2. If you are suspended from the forums, your participation is limited but not impossible. It is still possible for a forum-suspended user to assist in creating the write-up for a character who has already been approved; as previously mentioned, write-ups are inherently considered a consensus-based edit and thus not tied to any one particular user. However, you can not assist in the proposal of a character; as a proposal is based around the forum rather than the wiki, doing so with a forum suspension qualifies as meatpuppeting.

  9. Please keep all discussions "in-house".
    1. What other wikis use for MB equivalents is irrelevant here.
    2. Please be wary of using other wikis, Fandom or otherwise, as sources of information. They are just as fallible as a site like Wikipedia in regards to accuracy because they can be edited by any user, just as this site can.
    3. Do not attempt to force a communication with an author in an attempt to gather evidence or settle a debate; besides the fact that this is a YMMV trope and thus author intent has variable weight depending on the circumstance, doing so may cross the line into drama exportation, which is prohibited site-wide.

If you would like to use an EP for your candidate, here's the general format. This format does not have to be followed exactly, but these are the main topics that need to be covered:

    Effortpost Template

What is the work?

This is a brief summary of the work you're going to discuss. We don't need a full plot summary here, just however much we need to understand going into the discussion — it can even be as simple as quoting the summary on the work's page.

Who is the candidate and what have they done?

This is essentially the character's biography — who they are, their story, their goals and methodology, and, preferably (though not required), what happens to the candidate at the end. It does not have to include every single thing they ever do — for some characters, we'd be here all day if that was the case — but it should include the highlights of their journey.

How are they Magnificent?

This is the point where you highlight the character's brilliance. How to they convey their intelligence and charm to the audience? What makes them stand out among the crowd? What are their goals and how do they go about accomplishing them? This part welcomes a lot of creative thinking — not everyone has to be a Machiavellian Diabolical Mastermind to be worth considering here! This is also the time to showcase how the character can think on their feet if it's necessary.

How are they a Bastard? How are they not too bad?

What kinds of moral lines is this character willing to cross for the sake of their goal? Are they willing to let innocents die? Start wars? Commit crimes? The character has to show some kind of unscrupulousness in order to count as a "Bastard". Notably, this character does not necessarily have to be the villain, and an Anti-Hero can cross the line if they're immoral enough, but they have to be immoral somehow.

This is also the section where you then state your case for why they're not too bad. Perhaps their good intentions help mitigate their crimes. Perhaps others are shown to be much worse than them. Perhaps they're prone to Pet the Dog moments or are even fighting on behalf of loved ones. Whatever the case, there are certain lines that an MB can't cross, but as long as their villainy is reasonable for their goal, they can be considered.

Final verdict?

This is where you post your final conclusion on the character in question. You can continue elaborating on your reasons or even just say a simple "yes" or "no"; at this point, we've heard everything we need to hear.

And that's everything you need to know. Welcome to the thread!

Alright here's the RP for Rcules.

What is the work?

Ohsama Sentai King-Ohger is is the 47th main installment of the Super Sentai franchise. The series deals with five monarchs (Gira, Yanma, Hymeno, Kaguragi, Rita and then six with Jeramie) of the alien planet Tikyuu, battling against the evil forces of the insectoid Bugnaarok Empire, led by Naraka King Desnaarok who wants to subjugate the humans of Tikyuu, while simultaneously dealing with the threat of Rcules Husty, the monarch of Shugoddam who wishes to take over the entire planet. Though later on a bigger threat in the Galactinsects led by Dagded Dujarin emerges

Who is teh Candidate

Rcules Husty is the monarch of Shugoddam who rules with an apparent sense of justice and righteousness, when the Bugnaarok launch their attack to kickstart a war with the humans of Tikyuu, Rcules reveals he had been waiting for them to strike so he could consolidate his power by letting them wreak havoc on his kingdom, then "force" him to invade the other four (N'kosopa, Ishabana, Gokkan, Toufu) so they would have to submit to a rebuilt Shugoddam. When Gira, a seemingly normal citizen, defies him, he sends his forces to capture him but is blindsided when he gains the power to become a King-Ohger by awakening the kingdom's guardian God Kuwagata (who Rcules couldn't wake up), regardless he manages to keep control of Shugoddam and labels Gira an "Evil King" which the latter accepts as part of his defiance.

During the Bugnaarok-Human War, Rcules takes measures to avoid his people turning on him, making him beloved despite his crimes and the emergence of the Ohsama Sentai aiming to stop him with the support of the other four kingdoms. In the meantime, as depicted in The Secret of King Rcules miniseries, Rcules began developing his own version of the King-Ohgers' power known as OhCalibur ZERO to fight them and secure his rule, hiring a woman named Vedalia who turned out to be a Bugnaarok spy puppeteering the corpse of a long-deceased woman though Rcules easily thwarted the espionage attempt and killed the Bugnaarok while also revealing that he employed various criminals for his research who he states he will execute once they're finished to keep them silenced. He also tries and forge alliances with the other monarchs but Gira manages to thwart these efforts and bring the other monarchs to his side. He does succeed in taking captive Suzume, the sister of Toufu's ruler, Kaguragi, who becomes an accomplice to his plans allowing him to secure Toufu as an ally despite its ruler's attempt to defy him, especially when Rcules decides to do peace talks with Desnaarok. In the end, however, everyone unites against him and even Suzume turns out to have been trying to undermine him in conjuction with Kaguragi. Though he is ultimately confronted by Gira one last time and seemingly defeated and killed with all his followers leaving him. It's also revealed that Gira was Rcules' brother all along, who he sent away without his memories in the past and that Rcules' supposed servant, Boshimar, was actually killed and impersonated by Kamejim who himself turned out to be the instigator of the war and one of the Galactinsects.

However, Rcules turns up alive and joins the Galactinsects under the identity of "Shugo Mask" helping conquer Tikyuu and ruling it as their representative; after engineering Jester Goma Rosalia's death he takes the latter's place in Dagded's court, and follows by revealing Gira is a creation of Dagded to shatter the people's trust in him, has Dagded brainwash him to control the Shugods as weapons of war then reveals he will send humans to other planets so Dagded can restart the cycle of self-destructive wars elsewhere. However, he finally reveals that his true plan all along and for 17 years of his life was to fake being evil and become a tyrant so he could gain the trust of the Galactinsects and worm his way up to their good graces so he could defeat them and free Tikyuu of their tyranny, even if he had to become a tyrant along the way by committing genuine atrocities and complying to Dagded's sadistic games.

He reunites with the team after this and reveals his plans to the monarchs then empowers them with his now-upgraded OhCalibur ZERO which gives the heroes the power they need to gradually destroy Dagded and even temporarily kills him with help from Gira their victory only failing to stick when Dagded turns out to have created a body backup in one of his servants, Minongan Moth. When called out on his crimes he accepts his fault in them and is ready to be punished for them by working with the team to defeat Dagded. He also reveals that in the far past, his father wanted to use Gira (who'd been created by Dagded magically impregnating Rcules' mother) as a mindless weapon to destroy Dagded by feeding him the essence of God Kuwagata, but Rcules wouldn't allow it because of how it drove Gira berser and worked to send his younger half-brother away to an orphanage so he wouldn't be reduced to a simple tool, while erasing records of his existence so he wouldn't be found.

In the final episodes, Rcules motivates the citizens to fight back against the remaining Galactinsects, Dagded and Kamejim. Then joins Jeramie and a revived Desnaarok in fighting Kamejim and after defeating him lets the Bugnaarok leader drag him back to the land of the dead, Hakabaka, while avenging Boshimar's death in the process.

When the dust settles and the King-Ohgers successfully destroy Dagded and end him for good Rcules fully surrenders the crown to Gira and is punished for his many crimes while he posed as an evil tyrant with Suzume accompanying him as she had developed genuine loyalty and care for him despite initially only faking it, with him not making a fuss about his final fate.

Is he Magnificent?

He fooled what's essentially the God of his Universe to give him the power to destroy him by acting out the part of a tyrant, while secretly arranging for any direct "kills" he made to be spared. He wanted to save his brother, Gira, from being turned into a weapon by Dagded or one to be used against Dagded by his father, and succeeded by both sending him away to an orphanage without his memories and then subtly encouraging him to rebel against his faked evil rule. He even went as far as faking breakdowns and having been caught off-guard by various betrayals (besides Kamejim's) to sell the act.

He spent 17 years putting together the pieces to enact his plan, and despite actions from Gira and Kamejim almost derailing his plans, he always found a way to bounce back and keep his plan going until it was successful and Dagded was vanquished.

And once the dust settles he not only accepts his punishment for the crimes he legitimately committed during his long-term plan but also asks for his involvement in the defeat of Dagded to not be acknowledged so that the King-Ohgers rightfully receive the credit of saving Tikyuu and the Universe.

Is he a Bastard?

Make no mistake, he's a hero at the end of the day but he willingly committed atrocities of his own volition and was compliant to multiple deaths and devastation on Tikyuu to get his way. He even admits he became a genuine tyrant along the way of his plans, though never once losing sight of defeating Dagded, seeking to rule Tikyuu and enjoying the suffering of the people he hurt. It took Gira defeating him twice to snap him out of the worst parts of his power-drunk ego trip and even Rcules himself admits there was no justification for the worst of his actions in the end.

Final Verdict

Engineered the downfall of five demigods and a straight-up God, all while ensuring his brother would rise to the challenge of being the hero and rightful King and was willing to sacrifice his reputation forever to ensure his goals went through, as well as being compliant to several crimes as long as the greater good was achieved.

So it's a yes for me.

Chrono Trigger: The Musical is a musical adaptation of Chrono Trigger. Created by Man on the Internet, the same one behind Undertale the Musical, it's a great adaptation of a game with great music.

If you're familiar with the game, the candidate shouldn't be any surprise.

     Magus
Who is Magus? What has he done?

Magus, much like the original game, is the leader of the fiends during the Middle Ages and is trying to do a ritual that will create Lavos, the being who will devastate the world in 1999. However, there is much more to him than meets the eyes.

Initially a boy named Janus from the Kingdom of Zeal, Magus was one of the two children of the kingdom's ruler, Queen Zeal. The queen had been siphoning the power of Lavos and had been thusly going a bit crazy, which Janus noticed, refusing to call what she was changing into his mother. One day, when an experiment to harness the power of Lavos went wrong, Janus was sucked through a rift to the Middle Ages where he met the fiend who would become one of his generals later in life, Ozzie. Janus was raised by Ozzie and the other two who would become his future generals, with them intending to use him to allow fiends to dominate the world. Magus however didn't give shit about their goals, and in turn used them to fulfill his own goal: summoning Lavos so he could destroy the creature that separated him from his beloved sister.

Magus, later becoming the Fiendlord, rules over the fiends as he continued his own designs, at one point killing a knight named Cyrus and turning his friend Glenn into a humanoid Frog. By the year 600, his plans were nearing completion, and he was about to summon Lavos until Crono and company invaded his keep and interrupted the ritual, sending Magus back to his own home time, some time before the day he was sent to the Middle Ages.

Taking advantage of this, Magus disguised himself as a prophet, with his knowledge of the future allowing him to make his way high up in Queen Zeal's ranks, all with the intent of killing Lavos. 'Predicting' that Crono and the others will disrupt the summoning of Lavos, this allows Dalton to pulverize them and get them sent to a prison, where Magus then tries to kill them, only being stopped by Schala convincing him not to before he instead banishes them from the time period. When they return later thanks to the Epoch (a time machine) and disrupt the machine Queen Zeal was using to siphon Lavos's power, summoning the big boy himself, Magus springs into action and tries to kill Lavos, though he's unable to. He still however was able to resist Lavos sucking away his magic and lasted longer than Crono and co, who got flattened instantly. Magus then escapes the falling apart Ocean Palace after Lavos kills Chrono thanks to Schala teleporting him and the others away.

Later standing alone on a cliff until the others find him, he explains his past and in the process mocks Crono for dying, almost provoking Frog into fighting him... until he decides it wouldn't be worth it. Magus then tells them how they can revive Crono at no benefit to himself before joining the party to enact his revenge upon Lavos. He later assists Marle and Lucca in reviving Crono, and then raids Ozzie's Fort and fights his former generals to claim something of his own.

While the gang discuss how they should fight Lavos, Magus declares his intent to go to the Black Omen and fight his mother and leads the charge into the Omen after the others agree to follow him. Fighting Zeal until she leaves, Crono, Lucca and Marle fight Lavos until he knocks them down and starts destroying shit, with Magus and the others using the Epoch to ram into Lavos. Magus then helps fight Lavos with the evil bastard finally being slain. Magus later shows up at the final day of the Millennial Fair before everyone goes back to their original time periods, with Magus heading off to find Schala, though evidently he met up with the party again if the photo at the end is any indication.

Is he magnificent?

Yeah, just like the original game, Magus certainly is. He's able to manipulate people to get what he wants with ease and has the same cool factor as in the original, which is bolstered by Steven Kelly's great acting and singing. His initial attempts to kill Lavos don't go as planned, but that was mainly due to outside interference in the first case and both times he's able to bounce back just fine.

Is he a bastard?

Uh, yeah, Magus is kind of a dick. He manipulates the fiends for his own goals, kills Cyrus and turns Glenn into a frog and tries to kill the heroes at least twice. He also never really turns good and is more or less just working with the heroes because they have aligned goals.

Even so, he still loves his sister dearly, with his scheming all being for the purpose of killing the being who seperated him from her. He's also very much opposed to Lavos and Queen Zeal with his crimes not being nearly as bad as they are. Plus, even though he had no reason to, he still told the party that they could revive Crono even though he gained nothing for it. He's bad but certainly not too bad.

Verdict?

As much of a keeper as the original. And thank you for everything, Toriyama.

Hello welcome to my first Magnificient Bastard Proposal here!

What is the Work?

Resident Evil 5 (2009) is an Action/horror video game and the 5th installment in the baseline Resident Evil games (known as Biohazard in Japan), developed by Capcom, In this game, Chris Redfield and his partner Sheva are tasked to apprehend Ricardo Irving, but the story turns into a mission to take down an organization known as Tricell as well as it’s boss Albert Wesker.

Who is the character & What has he done?

Ricardo Irving is one of the secondary antagonists of this game (alongside Excella) he is a greedy and egotistical businessman who sells Bioweapons on the black market and managed the oil refineries in Tricell Africa.

In 2006, he gave Albert Wesker, Oswell Spencer’s location which lead to Spencer getting killed

Until March 2009 Irving Sold B.O.W’s on the Black Market to terrorists around the world so he can fund Tricell & Wesker & Excelle Gionne’s Uroboros research for years while also taking experiments with them such as when he used the Las plagas parasites and infected hundreds of people in the Kijuju region in West Africa as a testing ground for Tricell turning them into mindless monsters known as the Majini

One instance of this is when he warned the Ndipaya village tribe about an incoming disease in the area that they need to be inoculated by, but the inoculation was the disease itself, which was the type-3 plaga eggs which he infected the people with and it slowly killed all the women and children in the village while turning the men into Majini.

By the time Bioterrorism Security Assessment Alliance (B.S.A.A) Agent, Chris Redfield arrived in Kijuju to investigate and apprehend Irving he had another deal with an unknown associate and when he found out that his deal location had been compromised by the B.S.A.A. in a warehouse he instead moved it to the mines and when the B.S.A.A. Special Operations unit arrived in the warehouse he set off the trap & unleashed an Uroboros monster on them which killed all of them but at least they got important information about the deals next location in the mines which was given to Chris & Sheva Alomar.

Postpones the deal with the unknown buyer but went to the mines anyway to eradicate anything and collect documents that would implicate him in his black market dealings but is caught briefly by Chris and Sheva in his office by the mines before he can collect everything, they have a slow standoff until Brainwashed Jill shows up to rescue Ricardo, and the two escape from Chris and Sheva, but leaves documents implying where he would be next, the oil fields

While doing that he sent out a Majini to drive a truck to the mines carrying the Popokarimu BOW to kill Chris and Sheva but they killed the monster, it’s also said that this was the bioweapon he was planning to sell the unknown buyer He also heard about the B.S.A.A sending in the delta team so he had the Ndesu BOW kill them all, which it did, except for Chris and Sheva who killed the creature

After losing 2 of his BO Ws Irving planned to escape with his wealth but Jill forced him to comply to make him kill Chris & Sheva before he can do so and gives him a dominant species plaga to infect himself with. Unwanting to use the plaga he blows up his oilfields to erase the evidence of his dealings and kills off Chris and Sheva, but they survive, while he himself escapes on his boat.

When Chris & Sheva made their way onto the boat Irving with nothing left but the dominant specie plaga, used his last ditch effort to kill them and injected himself with the parasite aware that the mutations are irreversible and mutates into a giant fish tentacle monster with his human part literally being the tongue and begins to fight Chris and Sheva himself.

Upon the tongue getting cut off and him landing on the boat moments away the death, he gave away the location of the secret lab to Chris and Sheva while also mocking them and telling them that they can’t do anything about Uroboros and then he dies for good.

Is he Magnificent?

Yeah, he has a very hammy way of speaking that makes him slightly entertaining, He is a businessman who sells BOW's for years without being noticed or compromised. He successfully deceived the Ndipaya tribe of an upcoming disease which they needed to be vaccinated for but the vaccinations themselves were the type-3 las plagas eggs which killed the women and children and turned the men into majini. When hearing that the BSAA sent out soldiers to arrest him, he sets up many traps for them and which all succeed in killing the teams except for Chris and Sheva and even they had a hard time evading them. When Irving was confronted in his office by Chris and Sheva he doesn't back down, until Brainwashed Jill Valentine shows up to rescue Irving. he has a small amount of resources too which he uses to his full advantage only using the plaga at the end because he had nothing left to use to kill Chris and Sheva, he does have a tiny villainous breakdown near the end, but he gets over it very quickly, also while painfully mutating into the creature he still laughs and keeps his composure. and gives Chris and Sheva difficult time putting him down for good until the tongue was cut off. Even in his defeat he laughs at Chris and Sheva, gives them a clue about Uroboros and where to go next and accepts his death.

Is he a bastard and is he too much of one?

  • To start off with he is a black market weapons dealer who sells bio-organic weapons to terrorists for money,
  • He infected people of the Politically unstable Kijuju Region with Type-2 plagas & the Ndipaya tribes with type 3 plaga eggs as experiments for Tricell and it killed all the women and children while 92% of the men lost their free wills and went insane and are in fates worse than deaths.
  • he Uses an Uroboros Monster, Ndesu & Popokarimu BO Ws to kill the BSAA teams sent after him.
  • Lastly, with the funds he made from selling Bioweapons he in turn would use the money to fund Wesker & Gionne's uroboros virus research

Irving is heinous but he isn't too bad for this franchise though. There are plenty of worse villains in the Resident evil franchise such as Derek Simmons & Brian Irons. even in this game he is the lesser evil compared to Omnicidal Albert Wesker & Excella Gionne. While Irving does play a part in their uroboros project, he only funds it and never really attempts to launch it on the world.

Verdict?

I'm giving a slight yes?[tup]

Might be a little early, but hey, Morgans was unanimously approved. Here's a write up, should go below Katakuri since he debuted on that arc.

  • "Big News" Morgans is the eccentric boss of the World Economy News Paper and one of the bosses of the Underworld. Having eaten the Bird-Bird fruit Model: Albatross, Morgans has dedicated his life and company on Going for the Big Scoop, disregarding any danger that might be posed to his line of work. Always being on his hybrid form to fight as well as having his workplace be on a flying ship, Morgans is willing to fight off the deadly Cipher Pol Aegis 0 from covering up juicy news as well as causing the wrath of Emperors of the sea for publishing their failures. A gray shade on a supposedly black and white world, Morgans always plays both sides for the sake of entertaining and fueling up the world with his papers.

Due to unfortunate events, i will continue to exist until further notice.

Write-up for the Host Snifit:

  • Super Mario Bros.:
    • Paper Mario subseries:
      • Sticker Star & Color Splash: The Host Snifit is the charismatic head of Snifit or Whiffit, a game show that rewards winners with crucial items and punishes losers with death by poison gas. Introducing himself by holding a piece of Wiggler hostage, the Host Snifit forces Mario into four life-threatening rounds of Snifit or Whiffit to entertain the audience, before respectfully freeing the Wiggler segment when the plumber wins. Returning for Snifit or Whiffit: Seabed Edition, the Host Snifit, now guarding a Paint Star, welcomes Mario back before subjecting him to another seven, increasingly difficult rounds of his show under the threat of drowning to death. Despite his loyalty to Bowser and willingness to kill Mario, the Host Snifit nevertheless remains friendly and always honors his word.

So I just found this on YMMV.Gradius.

* Magnificent Bastard: Paula in the Salamander OVAs. She poses as a boat person from the 5th planet and tricks one of the protagonists into destroying a Moai Statue, which allows the Bacterians, who were repelled by the Moai Statue, to come in and mess up the place.

And yet I don't see her on the MagnificentBastard.Video Games A To L page. Does she really qualify?

If she’s in the ymmv but not in any of the main MB pages, then she was unapproved. Feel free to remove that entry.

Yes to Magus and Rcules, no to the Resident Evil guy for the bio weapons stuff.

  • Doom Patrol: Mr. Nobody is perhaps one of the most surreal foes faced by an already bizarre team, but his absolute insanity belies a cunning mind. Mr. Nobody is dedicated to spreading his nihilistic outlook in order to end oppressive conformity, and proves especially adept at recruiting like-minded acolytes able to routinely defeat the Doom Patrol. Regularly indulging in Refuge in Audacity, Mr. Nobody's schemes range from having a painting eat Paris, then helping defeat the Fifth Horseman of the Apocalypse; using the bicycle of Albert Hofmann to create a wave of madness and kickstart a popular presidential campaign; and selling delicious "$#!+" to destroy and restart existence. Even his Darker and Edgier stint embracing capitalism as "Mr. Somebody" sees him retain his devious edge, as he effortlessly manipulates the heroes into bad publicity and nearly annihilates them—only to casually abandon the fight once he learns their comic is being canceled, before returning to his usual absurd self in the Rebirth continuity. Running the full gamut of villainy, from Anti-Villain to cruel corporate shark to Laughably Evil loon, Mr. Nobody is, at his core, a nigh-unstoppable meta menace and a defining staple of the Doom Patrol's signature weirdness.

What's the work?

Iwájú is a cute little animated series that recently premiered on Disney+, set in a futuristic Lagos, Nigeria and exploring topics like classism and inequality...

And then the capitalists still end up being the heroes, because fuck it.

Anyway, the main villain of the series, Bode DeSousa, is a loan shark and kingpin who makes a habit of kidnapping the children of wealthy individuals and ransoming them back. He doesn't count; though he fancies himself as a Robin Hood-esque character sticking it to the rich elite, he's an egotistical hog who abandons his supposedly beloved minions without hesitation, and is repeatedly manipulated by the main character—a ten year old child.

One of his minions is a tad smarter than that.

Who is Ms. Happiness?

Bode's right-hand woman and the most competent member of his gang. Always laidback, bored, and with a book in hand, Happiness is nonetheless the biggest voice of reason on the crew and plays a vital role in the operation. It's her job to return the kidnapped children after the ransom money has been paid, using excellent acting skills to pose as a simple Good Samaritan who stumbled across these poor children when she brings them to the police—Bode's threats ensure the kids don't reveal the truth.

To make a long story short, Bode targets the main character, Tola, to get at her father, a scientist with access to large client lists of millionaires he works for—and potential future targets for Bode's operation. Happiness advises against this, noting that going after such high-profile figures may backfire on them, but she remains loyal when he insists on the scheme. Though the initial kidnapping fails, Happiness had the foresight to pose as an innocent bystander whom Tola asks for help once she escapes the other minions, allowing Happiness to easily capture her. Tola proceeds to easily charm Bode's gang while in captivity, including Bode himself, but Happiness stays wary, continuing to watch her while pretending to read a book and stopping her from stealing Bode's phone.

Tola's father eventually comes to rescue Tola personally, but gets captured. Things escalate from there, with Bode forgoing the dad's offer to pay him millions in favor of instead raiding his house and gaining access to the aforementioned client list. Happiness continues to argue against this, preferring to instead just take the money, but she nonetheless follows Bode as he goes through with his plan.

Oh, btw, Tola's dad has been building a robot death lizard to protect her. During the raid of their house, the lizard finally stops malfunctioning and goes on the attack... only for Happiness to whip out her own super-robot arm that she proceeds to use to go toe to toe with the thing.

To make a long story short again, Bode reveals his true colors and tries to abandon his minions to the robot death lizard, spurning Happiness to lead the minions to turn against him and abandon him in kind to the authorities.

Mitigating factors?

Nada; she's the Only Sane Woman and Hyper-Competent Sidekick who keeps their operation running, proving to be an excellent actor and escaping scot-free even after she loses to the robot death lizard. And it's a kid's show, so the whole child kidnapping scheme isn't portrayed as too scummy.

Simple keep.
