Old Complete Monster cleanup thread
Welcome to the new Complete Monster (CM) cleanup thread! This thread is where we clean up or cut already-existing entries.
If you're looking to add new entries, please see the approval thread.
IMPORTANT: Before you begin any discussions on this thread, please see the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List. Here, you'll find explanations of the criteria for the trope as well as our rules/procedures for approving and cutting candidates.
What goes through this thread?
- Cut requests. If you believe a CM has been approved and they do not count, this thread is where you propose their removal. To know how to go about this, please see the FAQ folder on the Administrivia page, where the process is explained in detail.
- If we ever need to consider cutting multiple examples without individually reviewing them (e.g. if we discover widespread plagiarism with a particular troper's CMs), the initial discussion will be on this thread and we'll then escalate to the mod team (as described here) to get a formal consensus if we decide to recommend a mass cut.
- If an entry was put on the wrong subpage/YMMV page, you may propose where they should be moved to.
- Full rewrites of existing entries, including expansions, trims, and ground-up rewrites. If your rewrite is approved by the thread, feel free to add it to the drafts page so that other users can check grammar and the like before it is included with the rest of the weekly swaps.
- If an entry on a work's YMMV page doesn't match the entry on the media subpage, you can bring it here to discuss which entry works better.
What does not go through this thread?
- New candidate proposals - as stated before, those are done on this thread.
- Unapproved wicks - if a Troper encounters either of these kinds of wicks, they can be cut with no approval.
- Any CM link on a non-YMMV page - as a YMMV trope, it should not be linked on those pages regardless of any cleanup effort. The only exception is if the wick is being used within the definition of another trope.
- If an CM link on a YMMV page refers to an unapproved character. If it refers to an approved character on any such page, the wick can stay. On the other hand, if the unapproved character being linked to sounds like they might have promise (and you don't feel like checking it out for yourself), feel free to mention it on the approval thread - someone may already know why they don't count, or it could invite a brand new discussion!
- Proposals for images, quotes, and videos of already-approved CMs - quotes and images are proposed on the approval thread, while videos can be uploaded normally as they are screened for approval by the moderation.
- Crosswicking examples to YMMV pages - if an example has already been approved and added to the main page, you do not require any special permission to add the example to a work's YMMV page (assuming the work has a page already). If a YMMV page doesn't exist yet, then you can make it yourself, but either way, feel free to just add the example without asking.
- Small changes to existing entries - these can simply be done on a Troper's own prerogative with no approval.
- Spelling and grammar fixes.
- Pothole changes.
- Minor rewordings.
- Spoiler tags.
While these changes do not require any kind of approval, it is requested that should you make any of these changes, you do one of the following:
- Make the same changes on the relevant Sandbox page, then add the Sandbox to the list at the bottom of the drafts page. This will add the Sandbox to the weekly swaps and ensure that the edits end up on the relevant locked page. If the Sandbox is already listed, then once you make the edits, your job is already done!
- If you don't know how the Sandboxes work or simply don't have the time to find it, then you can simply post on the thread about the changes you made. Someone else can then make the edit on the relevant Sandbox and add it to the weekly swaps.
- Alternatively, you can simply request that the change be made directly to the locked page on the Locked Pages thread. Members of this thread keep track of that one, so we will ensure that the changes are made in the Sandbox so that it doesn't get deleted during the next swap.
Again, these changes don't require any approval, but we prefer to keep the entries on the YMMV pages and the locked pages the same in order to avoid any miscommunication or errors between entries, so if you do make the change, we would greatly appreciate it if you could ensure the change is made on the locked page as well.
As a final note, we do not care what other sites have to say regarding whether or not a character counts. We have our own criteria and they have theirs for their CM equivalents; while they are similar, they are not exactly the same and should not be treated as such. Another site removing a character from their equivalent should not be a reason why a cut is proposed here, and if this is the case, it will likely lead to mod intervention.
Other than this, once again, welcome to the cleanup thread, and we look forward to your contributions!

Speaking of the resolved items list, wasn't Captain Vidal from Pan's Labyrinth supposed to go up?
Image Pickin' BacklogSo uh checking. Complete monster literature quotes. I think the current aren't like absolute evil type quotes. (Like remorseless pure evil monsters). So feel fine removing them.
- Seems more Would Hurt a Child'
- Its not the worst. But feel like the other Fenrir is better at encapsulating this trope.
Found some mismatched writeups:
Subpage:
- Timecop: U.S. Senator Aaron McComb dreams of becoming a plutocratic despot. He's quick to abuse time travel for his own purposes, initially using it for financial interest schemes. He threatens his agents with erasing them and their entire families from existence, forcing them to kill themselves if the time agency tracks them down. He shoots one of his old business partners to give his past self the guy's tech company and rewrites history so that he completely controls time travel. He blackmails a time agent to become his mole against Agent Jack Walker by again threatening to erase her family, then kills her anyway to tie up all loose ends and frames Walker when he goes back to save her. After having arranged several failed hits on Walker directly, he sends his goons back in the past to murder the younger Walker and his wife by blowing them both up in their home.

Which one is more accurate?

Your friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man.I'm fine with the quotes and I don't think "this technically also describes another trope" is a reason to cut a quote
Listen to my podcastWell it's just. They seem kind of generic compared to the others listed on the Literature section of Complete Monster.
"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."The "He's very rude to his past self, and can barely stand in the same room without besides worrying about 'same matter cannot occupy same space'" seems superfluous.
As for Max or Jack, I guess they mixed up Max Walker (from the film) with the show's Jack Logan?
CM Dates; CM Pending; CM DraftsI'm fine with the Fenrir and Didora quotes, the other I say can go
REALITY IS AN ILLUSION, THE UNIVERSE IS A HOLOGRAM, BUY GOLD BYEEEE! | She/HerSince I’m giving these movie a rewatch, I thought I'd give a rewrite to one of my old entries. Logan from Dead Rising: Watchtower.
Current entry.
- Dead Rising: Watchtower: In this interquel set between Dead Rising 2 and Dead Rising 3, Logan is an anarchistic biker gang leader, who was bored of his old life before deciding to take advantage of the chaos of a zombie outbreak. He and his gang sneak into a quarantined zombie outbreak to loot. In his first scene, he comes across a married couple and offers his help for an impossible price, before beating the husband down and leaving the wife to be eaten by zombies in front of him. When one of his men get bitten, he jokingly asks if he'd rather be shot or get chained up and turned. He then attacks the two protagonists, Crystal O'Rourke and Chase Carter, kidnapping Crystal and leaving Chase in a zombie death trap. Before attempting to rape Crystal, he reveals his intentions to blow up the quarantine wall and let the zombie outbreak spread. When he gets bitten by a zombie, he decides to use his last human moments to finally act on his plan before he succumbs to the virus.
Just a slight trim, but I also felt the mention of this movie as an Interquel was unneeded.
Here’s my rewrite.
- Dead Rising: Watchtower: Logan is an anarchistic biker, taking advantage of a zombie outbreak when bored with his old life. Logan and his gang sneak into a quarantined zone to loot, where he offers to a married couple for an impossible price, beating the husband down and leaving the wife to be eaten alive. When one of his men get bitten, Logan jokingly asks if he'd rather be shot or get chained up and turned. Logan kidnaps Crystal O'Rourke, and leaves Chase Carter in a zombie death trap. Before attempting to rape Crystal, he reveals his plans to blow up the quarantine wall and spread outbreak further. When he gets bitten, Logan tries to destroy the wall as he succumbs to the virus.
Yes to the subpage entry.

"It's like...a cliff, and if I do it, I'm just gonna...fall." "I think we're already falling."Let's try that again, shall we?
- Timecop: U.S. Senator Aaron McComb dreams of becoming a plutocratic despot. Eager to abuse time travel for his own purposes, McComb initially uses it for financial interest schemes. To this end, McComb threatens his agents with erasing them and their entire families from existence, forcing them to kill themselves if the time agency tracks them down. After shooting one of his old business partners to grant his past self access to the victim's tech company, McComb rewrites history so that he completely controls time travel. Additionally extorting a time agent to become his mole against Agent Max Walker by again threatening to erase her family, McComb kills her regardless to tie up all loose ends and frames Walker when he goes back to save her. After having arranged several failed hits on Walker directly, he sends his goons back in the past to murder the younger Walker and his wife by blowing them both up in their home.

Your friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man.By the way. Hellblazer: Rise and Fall now has a page. Cross wick.
"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."Speaking of Stu, I have an issue with the current image for the Scream page, but the Image Pickin’ thread for the page is locked. Do I create a new thread or just discuss it here?
Make a new thread. I like the Dead Rising rewrite; for Timecop, the superfluous sentence pointed out by ACW seems to have been added in unilaterally by someone outside the thread. It's, again, superfluous, so I see no need to change the subpage entry to reflect it.
Does anyone mind if I make this small addition to Stu? Like I said before, he and Billy appear to be unique in planning a repeat massacre, at least from what I recall, and it's a nice extra boost to heinousness that couldn't hurt to mention.
- First film: Stuart "Stu" Macher is one of the original Ghostfaces with his partner William "Billy" Loomis. A horror-loving psychopath who leaped at the chance to become a real killer, Stu assisted Billy in abducting, raping, torturing and brutally murdering Maureen Prescott, framing her lover Cotton Weary for the crime. A year on, Stu murders Casey Becker and her boyfriend Steve out of spite for Casey leaving him, leaving her corpse for her parents to find, and then gleefully participates in the Ghostface murder spree with Billy that even sees his own girlfriend Tatum killed. Stu plans to massacre most of the attendees of a party so he and Billy can murder Sidney Prescott, frame her father for it, and pass themselves off as innocent victims free to continue planning their "sequel," with Stu more than happy to stab Billy for their plan, culminating in him attempting to throttle Sidney as he claims he "always had a thing" for her.
That addition is good for Stu
Hope your prepared for an unforgettable luncheonSo, from Sailor Moon.
- "Black Moon" arc: Black Moon arc: Wiseman is the true master of the Black Moon Clan. Once a man in the future of Neo-Tokyo, Wiseman attempted to brainwash the populace to destroy the peaceful world. Defeated and banished by Neo-Queen Serenity, Wiseman fused with the evil planet Nemesis and annihilated the future. Hunting Chibi Usa and her silver Crystal in the past, Wiseman callously uses the Black Moon Clan and disposes of them when no longer of use, even brainwashing Blue Saphir and using him against his brother Prince Demand. Upon revealing his true strength as Nemesis, Wiseman attempts to exterminate all existence.
Now, Wiseman is a ridiculously Easy Keeper, so much that...I find this entry actually undersells him.
It doesn't mention how he takes advantage of Chibi-Usa's feelings to turn her into Black Lady, who is a mix of Mouth of Sauron and Vessel Body. Its a bit weird to be honest and all sorts of creepy and fucked up, especially seeing as how he actively encourages Chibi Usa's daddy issues into murderous and incestuous insanity via More than Mind Control. Its a pretty messed up act of personal villainy, turning the daughter of Neo-Queen Serenity and King Endymion into a brainwashed servant/ vessel to kill them and destroy their civilization.
The other big thing? Wiseman is the one who told Sailor Galaxia (Big Bad of the final arc of the series) about Sagitarius Zero Star, the center of the galaxy, thus helping Galaxia's transformation into a Hero Killer at a galactic scale.
Remember Wiseman explicitly has Time-warping powers (in fact, his arc happens because Wiseman messed with the timeline), his meeting with Galaxia could happen at any point of time. Its a case where the seemingly illogical meeting actually makes sense.
So, I feel those two crimes should be mentioned in his entry.

Watch me destroying my countryEleanor's entry on Fazbear Frights' YMMV calls William 'Willaim'. Just wanted to point that out in case anyone could correct it.
The First manTwo characters we've discussed putting on the resolved items list that we never actually have. Permission to request these changes?
Definitely a CM:
- Pan's Labyrinth: Vidal (Handing over his son doesn't indicate care for his well-being, only his own legacy.)
Definitely not a CM:
- Berserk: The Snake Baron (His atrocities fail to stand out in a setting where such actions are so commonplace, even in the '97 anime.)
Also, the use of periods and parentheses in the resolved items section is inconsistent, but generally looks like the examples I gave above. Permission to request consistency there?
The Vidal one looks great!
On the Snake Baron, however, I don't think that entry needs changed. When the entry was first created, it was specifically because his original manga version kept getting proposed, and Wyald was the specific character that was consistently cited as why the Baron can't count. The small implication that Wyald is in the 1997 anime caused by the phrasing of the current one doesn't really matter much in my opinion when the main point is that he doesn't count in any version, including the original, because other Apostles generally and Wyald specifically out-heinous him.
Also, just to be clear, the Snake Baron is already back on the list, so while we can discuss changing the entry, he is indeed there.
I'm also cool with adding periods to the ends of the other examples for consistency.
And also, what do we think of this?
- Scream: Stu Macher (being one of the original Ghostfaces, the brutality of his kills compared to his partner Billy, and his participation in the torture/rape of Maureen Prescott all make him heinous enough despite his low kill count.)

I'm trying to find something but cannot.
Does anyone know why the main continuity Nanoha CMs (Jail, Percia, Quattro) were cut? I tried searching but to no avail (cannot find the original EP), I only know they were deemed to not count.

Scream looks good and no idea how I missed Snake Baron lol
I don't remember Quattro and Jail but Percia wanted to resurrect her deceased daughter right?

"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."Snoke: Hell. I'll take care of that.
For Berserk, do we wanna give Griffith his own tree like Gul'dan at Warcraft? Then the animanga (Godhand/Wyald/Ganishka); then one each for other canon works (Abecassis) and adaptations (2016 Slan) and others (Vlad).
CM Dates; CM Pending; CM DraftsMakes sense to me!
Hell, we could even merge the latter 3 into one: Others
- The Flame Dragon Knight canon Light Novel: General Abecassis
- 2016 series: Slan
- The Prototype: Vlad Tepes
Or change the first section to canon works and do something like: Canon works
- Original manga:
- The Godhand are the ultimate pinnacle of evil in Midland:
- Golden Age Arc: Wyald
- Falcon of the Millennium Empire Arc: Emperor Ganishka
- The Flame Dragon Knight: General Abecassis
Then the "Others" could have the series and Prototype.

Keep Stu and add him and the Baron to the resolved items list.
