I agree that Brick Joke should be about jokes that don't pay off for a long time. It's definitely got some misuse going on (the Live Action TV folder is massive, and full of call backs and continuity nods). As far as your examples go, the Fallout one is a maybe, the two phrases are a call and response. The rest seem to be just call backs (the Half Life one in particular).

Part of the issue is that the trope description includes an incorrect example, the paragraph about the Newhart claims that their infamous finale is a brick joke instead of an early call back to The Bob Newhart Show. I'd really like to snip this from the description (it was added much later).

Does it count as a Cross-Cast Role if a cisgender person plays a trans character of the opposite gender? Specifically, cis woman Elle Fanning playing the transgender boy Ray in 3 Generations, a choice which attracted significant controversy for not casting a male actor (cis or trans) for the role.

I hope this is the right place for this. I wanted to see which (if any) tropes the following event from LG15: the resistance would fall under.

• Daniel, a character from the previous series lonelygirl15, returns for the finale of LG15: the resistance after being absent from the series to that point.

Is this:

• Back for the Finale: this might seem dumb, but the problem I thought of with it is that trope's page states that it's for when characters return for the Grand Finale, which the episode most certainly is not despite being the final episode of the series.
• Continuity Cameo: Only including this because I thought of it, as I think Daniel's role is too large (speaking directly to the audience for 2 and a half minutes) to qualify for this.
• Last Episode, New Character: Daniel appears for the first time in the series in the season finale, and examples on the page seem to show that the character can already be established within a continuity. I think this one definitely fits.
• A Deconstruction of 11th-Hour Ranger: The Resistance contacted him about their fight against the Order a few hours before Daniel made his appearance, but by the time he got up to speed with what was going on, the Order had already accomplished all their primary objectives and was long gone from their last known location, preventing Daniel from being able to do a thing to help the good guys.

Just an update on BrickJoke.Video Games: I have now removed the examples that were determined to be misuse. However, I left the Fallout example because that one might be legitimate.

From RelationshipWritingFumble.Live Action TV (Once Upon a Time tree):

• Season 3 also sets up a She Is Not My Girlfriend moment between Hook and Tinkerbell (yes, really). When Emma asks if they were ever involved, Tink denies it while Hook implies it. The matter is never approached again.

I am not sure if this is a Writing Fumble as this is clearly something the creator intended. I mean the trope is about platonic relationships fans interput as romantic. This is just a work implying that these two use to have a thing going on. Thoughts?

In Rocketman (2019), as soon as Elton John enters Dodger Stadium while singing the title song, he uses a baseball bat to hit a baseball thrown by Davey Johnstone into the bleachers. Does this count as a true Batter Up! example or would a different trope apply here?

The description, the laconic, and about every example I saw from a quick perusal on Batter Up! refers to the use of baseball bats as weapons, so I would say that's not an example.

I'm not sure if someone randomly hitting baseballs is even a trope.

I don't even see a trope in the example, unless you want to point at "hitting the audience in a sports game", which I'm not sure we have that one.

  • On a meta-level, Marc Guggenheim and Wendy Mericle. Arrow went downhill ever since they took over as showrunners that criticising them for their lackluster (and controversial) decisions and writing is what majority of the fans enjoy doing despite their differing opinions over the show's characters.
  • Also on a meta-level, Felicity Smoak. Due to the infamous ending of Crisis on Earth-X, she alienated many fans to the point of almost losing all goodwill. Unlike Guggenheim and Mericle, this does NOT extend to Emily Bett Rickards. In fact, many of the Felicity-haters actually pity Emily for having to deal with such terrible writing, and view her as another victim of the show's change in direction.
  • The franchise has sent a few indirect jabs to both Donald Trump and the alt-right in general, with Supergirl having the most overt examples.

I would say no, because the clips themselves all contain more than the core cast. Plus, the more I read the trope description, the more it seems that the trope is about a show with a minimal cast (it does say it's hard to pull off), not just an episode with minimal cast.

Acceptable Targets is supposed to be about groups of people that society has deemed it okay to mock, belittle or villanize (as you can guess this is quite the minefield). It's supposed to be for groups like say child abusers, whom virtually everyone thinks is a bad person, so its therefore okay to demonize.

Anyways, onto the examples. First and second bullet points are easy cuts, someone is stealth bitching about the show and we don't want that here. Third one I could see as counting, though it's treading into ROCEJ territory. The shows, Supergirl especially, do hate on Trump and within their audience it's considered acceptable.

hi, uhh. I considered posting this in ATT, but on second thought I felt it'd be much better suited for here.

long story short, I want to propose a Trans Audience Interpretation example for Hideri. yeah yeah, i'm well aware of how... 'controversial', for lack of a better term, this reading is, but I feel like it's a genuine example and could (should?) be added. i'm kinda (really) nervous about suggesting this, since I had once brought it up under my old username, but that query got derailed into a tangent about "tumblrinas" and whatnot... but hey, don't know unless you try, right? (also yes, I'm well aware of someone who came to this very wiki with a similar Single-Issue Wonk... i read EB, and they've actually interacted with me offsite.)

but enough of that, here's my proposed example. please tell me if there's anything wrong with it.

Dunno much about the work tbh, but as long as it's a common interpretation I think it's fine as TAI. The reason the other troper (who I'm assuming is Non Troper), definitely had a massive wonk not just that it was their interpretation but that it was the correct interpretation, but even then their ban was for being obsessive and unable to respond to anything in EB properly.

It reads as perfectly valid to me since you acknowledge the work wasn't intending this reading. Even if canon says otherwise, if it's something a lot of fans headcanon, then it's valid to record that. It shouldn't be removed just cuz other people dislike the headcanon. (I assume this is the other query you mentioned, and I disagree with RJD there because it reads that they're using ROCEJ as a reason to keep the headcanon off the page when they're the one who turned it into an argument about their personal disagreement.)
