Nature's Bliss is the second film festival of the annual 48 Hour OSC Film Festival and premiered live on 20th July 2021.

This time around, the theme, "Nature's Bliss"

The festival became more ambitious than its predecessor as around 300 people write, animate and produce Object Shows based on the given prompt within 48 hours. The final project ended up with a total of seventy-three shorts and a runtime of four hours and twenty-three minutes. The showcase had the shorts made by individuals go first followed by teams at the premiere.

The same applies as last time, all votes for "Best In Show" are in the form of donations for The Trevor Project

Preceded by The Little Things and followed up with Metropolis

Check out the full screening.

Contains the following tropes:

In General

  • Alliterative Name: As much as the first festival was fond of Similarly Named Works, Nature's Bliss has a total of seven film titles with the trope.note

5. Natural Bliss

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/natural_bliss.jpg
Created by: LiviCiabattery

  • Simple, yet Awesome: While the animation is not as impressive compared to some of the entries, opting to only use one character over a generic grass fields background, it's the fact that LiviCiabattery beautifully composed and sang an original song within the first five hours of the two-day time period. Her efforts award her third place in the film festival.

6. Butterdie Effect

Created by: Olly B

  • Whole-Plot Reference: The plot revolves around two bickering, kinda dimwitted friends, with one of them having a weird accent, as they get themselves lost in a dense forest. Sounds awfully similar to an episode of Epic Jungle Show.

8. Object Battle Royale

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/object_battle_royale.jpg
Created by: Nickster Trickster

  • Bolivian Army Ending: After massacring all the competitors, Trash Can and Blueberry think they have won when the intercom announces a round two and starts up the recovery centers. Cue all the previously eliminated contestants menacingly glaring and about to gang up on the duo before it cuts to black.
  • Deadly Force Field: In addition to the battle royale, an electric-blue forcefield encloses in on the contestants and disintegrates anyone close to its borders.
  • Here We Go Again!: Trash Can and Blueberry were seen relaxing in the waiting room thinking they had won when the intercom announced round two. Cue all the people who were eliminated by Trash Can and Blueberry angrily ganging up on them.
  • Oh, Crap!: Realising how screwed he and Blueberry are for round two, Trash Can can only say "Uh oh" then again but louder as the short ends.
  • Sarcasm Mode: The chat jokingly proclaimed how good the short was during its live preview when that's clearly not the case.
  • Stylistic Suck: The short became a standout in the film festival for its notoriously low-quality animation, child-like art style and not one but two watermarks you'll find in amateurish Object Shows (This really didn't help that it was immediately followed up by the more well-acclaimed A Florist's Folly). Suffice it to say, Nickster Trickster endured massive Creator Backlash, as mentioned in the video's description to have received loads of hate, and decided Object Battle Royale would be their final OSC-related content for a long while.
  • Wins by Doing Absolutely Nothing: One of the participants told his friend about his plan to stand around and do exactly that but was cut off when Trash Can proceeded to stab and eliminate both of them.

11. Restaurant in the Rainforest

  • Man on Fire: Corpo briefly catches fire after turning on the stove. It doesn't help that he routinely sprays cooking oil on himself to mask his unbearable stench.
  • Sensory Abuse: For headphone users, it's recommended to skip the first five seconds of the standalone video as for no discernable reason, there would suddenly be a falling metal pipe that clangs loudly upon hitting the floor.
  • Shout-Out: To the American restaurant chain, Rainforest Cafe, given the title and how the setting takes place in an actual rainforest.

12. A Natural Dreamer

  • Everybody Hates Mathematics: The main character falls asleep in a particularly boring algebra class and a more interesting dream sequence happens instead.

13. Octopus

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/octopus_16.jpg
Created by: Decker

  • A Boy and His X: Though the Boy is replaced with a circle and the X is their pet octopus.
  • Artistic License – Marine Biology: Octopuses can live up to two years with giant octopuses living between three to five years on average. It's improbable that Circle's octopus can live that long from childhood into their adult years.
  • Bittersweet Ending: More bitter than sweet when Circle's octopus and life-long companion after his parents' passing dies one morning. While mourning on the beach, Circle finds a blue octopus cheerfully looking their way like and he gives it a small smile.
    Closing Song: [Sad guitar music]
♫ Alone again, sad waiting by the water~ ♫
♫ Without a friend, to help me get by~ ♫
♫ But I need to find a way, I need to feel okay. No, I'm not. No, I'm not. ♫
  • Downer Beginning: The short begins with a young Circle losing both his parents in a burning building and is whisked away to a foster home far from their hometown shortly after.
  • House Fire: The reason why Circle is an orphane is because his parents were trapped in a burning building when he got distracted. This was made more tragic as both were loudly screaming while being burnt alive.

  • All There in the Manual: Unlike Andy, Ben's name wasn't addressed in the short but rather in the end credits.
  • Meaningful Appearance: Ben is a canvas board who loves drawing and often streams his artwork online.
  • One Head Taller: Ben only reaches up to Andy's torso given the former is a canvas board and the latter is a spoon not drawn to scale.
  • Only Known by Their Nickname: Andy's full name is "Anderson H.", as seen on his desk placard at work, but is only referred to as the former.
  • Opposites Attract: Andy is a straight-laced, sullen office worker constantly swamped with work whereas Ben is a carefree, optimistic freelance artist. They do have their fair share of arguments about their differing lifestyles but at the end of the day, the two are still a loving couple who care deeply for each other.
  • Puppy-Dog Eyes: Ben pulls out the biggest ones imaginable to convince Andy to get out of their apartment for some much-needed R&R.
  • Sleep Cute: The short ends with the couple resting on each other's shoulders in the credits.
  • Straight Gay: Ben and Andy are hinted to be a couple as seen with the former drawing them holding hands and when they rested on each other's shoulders at the end. The creators of the short confirmed this in the comments section of the standalone video.
  • Workaholic: Andy dedicates himself to his job and spends the short stressing out over a huge presentation the following day. Ben gets worried and asks him to take a break which starts a huge argument about their different work life.
