"You're going to die now, Magni Dezmond."
For as cute and quirky hololive can be, there's just as many moments that'll tug at your heartstrings.

  • Kaoru's sudden retirement from holostars over personal circumstances on his part with Cover Corp, has left both fans and peers distraught, as no one had seen it coming. Iofi, a talent from hololive ID and one of Kaoru's friends, had to cancel her upcoming stream to give herself some time to think about his departure. Even Kaoru himself was aware of this in his final talk stream, where he struggled to find the words as a proper send-off to end his stream as he tried to not let his emotions take over.
  • The entire situation regarding Aloe Mano leaving Hololive.
    • After getting suspended for accidentally doxxing herself and attracting easy attention from haters and antis, Aloe Mano gained a lot of love from the community in the form of fan-art, supporting messages, and even an entire website dedicated to gathering the aforementioned messages in one hub, all these things for her sake despite the limited time getting to know her. But despite all that, due to being too physically and emotionally exhausted to continue, she left the group with not much fanfare, as if the pressure from the backlash was too much to handle.
    • The rest of Gen 5 stopped their streams for the day to address the situation — Lamy and Nene sounded like they were on the verge of tears, and Polka was devoid of her usual energy.
    • The whole situation was a stab in the gut for many in the community, near a thousand supportive messages, a website for all those messages, even a welcome back video for her, all of the hope and community support for Aloe leading into heartbreak. In spite of this, fans attempted to properly say goodbye to Aloe with another website dedicated to hosting goodbye messages from fans, fan-art, even fan-games dedicated to her. Though, no official word from Cover Corp confirmed if their message to Aloe was received.
    • Following Aloe's departure, Nene reassures that "5th Generation will always have 5 members" and refuses to change the artwork of her Twitter banner to remove Aloe from the group. note
  • The dissolution of hololive's Chinese branch, due to the fact that it was a situation of being caught in the crossfire of an incident that was neither intentional or one they themselves were the cause of. After about a month of radio silence and hopeful speculations, it was confirmed mid-November 2020 that the girls will all be graduating. Becomes far worse when one considers most of them barely hit a year of streaming with some of them only starting early 2020, especially Civia, who is set to graduate on her birthday.
  • Cursed Night is so depressing and worrying that Calliope had to preemptively make a disclaimer that the process of writing the song was cathartic, and that she's actually the happiest that she's ever been after getting to release the song just so people wouldn't worry about her being in a bad mental state. That said, throughout the entire month of October she had been working on this song, the lyrics make it pretty obvious that she had been in a lonely and dark place for a long time before getting into her career with hololive; it's also fitting that this particular track had a very Troubled Production, leading to herself and mixer K's having to basically rework on the thing with incomplete pieces due to her laptop finally dying and her backup being corrupted.
  • On 17 November 2020, Kagami Kira announced he would be graduating at the end of the month. Fans of Kira saw this coming due to his frequent breaks and myriad health issues, but it still is a somber moment considering he was one of the original Holostars.
  • Civia's YouTube graduation stream, full stop. While Artia's earlier Twitch graduation stream was more upbeat due to how chaotic she and her chat are (as well as parts of the fanbase turning on her due to a series of accusations), Civia struggled to hold back tears at times, as she looked back at all three of her streams (two debuts for some reason and a Super Mario Odyssey playthrough, none longer than 1h30 in duration), showed off a new costume that would only be used once, and then spent the latter half of the stream in her recently-finished 3D model, which according to her was only completed two days before. As time ran out, Civia completely failed to hold her sorrow in and began sobbing harder, prompting her to call up the stream end card - only for her to cut it, and in a black screen, utter her final words to her overseas audience:
Civia: I love you all. Thank you for everything.
    • YAGOO also Tweeted "Thank you for everything", a significant deviation from his usual behavior of congratulating the talents when they reach milestones. This is the first time YAGOO has ever publicly reached out to thank a talent who's about to graduate - the previous exits were either unceremonious or abrupt, and in Artia's case, her "non-standard" approach to communicating her final Tweet didn't leave much room for such a response.
    • The kicker: as mentioned above, it was on her birthday. She chose the date of her own accord.
  • Roberu being moved to tears during his 10,000 subscriber celebration stream. This was a particularly rare moment for Roberu as he has always been seen to have a fair composure of himself, almost never being lost for words on-stream. The stream began with him lamenting his time since his debut four months ago as of the time of the celebration stream (coincidentally, right during Christmas Eve, December 24th), noting how it was quite a rocky start as he and his second generation peers debuted right after it was decided that Holostars would merge into Hololive to form Hololive Production. He likened Holostars' early time to the 9/18/2010 incident within the Idolm@ster fanbase, continuing with saying how he doesn't want to be seen as a leech by people, and that he wants to get big on his own merit and efforts. But despite that, he was also thankful for the opportunities management has given him, such as appearing in HOLOCOMI along with his 2nd Gen peers, where he met and formed strong and lasting friendships with Fubuki and Matsuri. He continued the stream saying how he was very happy to see the massive support for the newly debuted Third Gen of Holostars, and he vowed to work even harder from then on (a vow he takes very seriously, seeing his regular weekly streaming schedule).
  • During a freetalk stream towards the end of December 2020, Calliope talked about having a difficult discussion with "Death-Sensei" in regards to quitting her job as a scythe-swinging teacher. Death-sensei did not take this news well and forced her to work on Christmas Eve as her last day. Calli's tried to say that she'd rather spend that time with her friends, but Death-sensei's response was to remind her that she doesn't have any friends to spend time with, to which Calli didn't have any rebuttal. At face value, it's a very sobering reality for her that her first real friends were the ones she's made since joining hololive, such as Kiara, and it makes sense why she's so attached to them.
  • A more heartwarming example; after reaching the 1 million subscriber milestone during a karaoke stream, Aqua struggles to get through the remaining songs without tearing up. By the time she started singing her own song, Aquairo Palette, Aqua was completely breaking down in tears of joy over reaching such a huge milestone.
  • The in-character backstory for the Akai Haachama split can be seen as incredibly tragic. It's implied that Haato and Haachama, when they were younger, were incredibly close. At some point, one of them died, and the survivor promised that they would be together forever which resulted in a split personality between Akai Haato and Haachama. Whichever girl survived, the consequences are nonetheless horrific; if Haachama was the survivor, then the death of the mild-mannered and sweet Haato completely broke her to the point of insanity and she went from being an exciteable girl to...whatever she currently is now. If Haato was the survivor, then she has adapted and perverted the memory of Haachama to the point that it can barely be considered the same person as who she would grow up to be. Made even worse is that she's probably been doing this for so long that she forgets who the "real" her is, with "Haato" and "Haachama" constantly battling for control of the body.
  • Calliope and Kiara's Takamori concert was always going to be bittersweet, considering that the stream was meant to be Calli and Kiara's last before the latter left Japan, but it quickly became clear that Kiara herself was quite sad about the whole thing as well. At the end of the unarchived portion of the concert, Kiara was teared up throughout the last two songs. "Big Girls Don't Cry" ended with some strained lyrics, but she held together. However, the last one, "Leaving on a Jet Plane", has been a song that Kiara has cherished since she was a child. By the last quarter of the song, Kiara broke down crying so badly that she couldn't finish singing. Calli could only hug and console her, and the chat had broken down as well.
Calli: [hugging Kiara] It's okay to be sad... I'll always be here. And you can come back and visit anytime. Okay? We'll keep having fun together, I promise. Okay?
    • It's even sadder in context. In a Superchat Reading stream before the Karaoke one she mentioned that she wanted to sing an "a very special oldie song" to Calli, but didn't mention what it would be, so the superchats took guesses. When one of them guessed the song correctly, she started talking about the song and how important it is to her. As she puts it, Kiara was a somewhat rebellious young girl who used to mainly listen to mainstream stuff the radio played and always thought that her mother's taste in music was something "boring" that she would never enjoy. But when her mother put that song on the record player, it made so much of an impression to her, that she sat down next to her mother to listen to it. This created some sort of weird connection between the two, since normally they disliked each other's taste in music. And then Kiara learned to sing the song by heart, and it was the first time her mother actually enjoyed hearing her daughter sing. Ever since then, the song would pop up and fit in into so many important moments in her life. So it's a song with a really special meaning to her, beyond its lyrics, as it's the song that allowed her to bond with her mother and realize the potential within her.
  • During Astel's 50k celebration stream, the stream suddenly took a quite bittersweet turn when he brought up about the Holostars members who have graduatednote , and talked the elements that went along with them. When talking about it you can even hear Astel tearing up a little bit:
Astel: Originally, Holostars had 12 members. Now there are only 9 of us. To the three that left, there's an element that went along: for Suzaku, it's his FPS skills, for Kira, its his cute gamer vibes, and for Kaoru, it was his experience with makeup. There has been messages here and there, in regards how fans felt when members left... After all they still love them. And that got me thinking a lot about the goals and dreams we want to achieve in the future... But even then we can't forget about them, just because they're not here with us anymore, doesn't mean we must deny their existence, but be grateful that they were a part of our lives.
  • On June 9th 2021, Coco announced her graduation from hololive effective July 1st. She was clearly torn up, holding back tears. The community at large cried too, and several of her colleagues have delayed or cancelled their own plans for the day so as to handle their own emotional responses.
    • Mio was particularly emotional, streaming shortly after the announcement and explaining between tears that she had begged Coco to stay. Ultimately though Coco convinced her that this was truly what she wanted, and Mio had been forced to accept it.
    • According to Coco herself, when she told her gen-mates beforehand, Towa burst into tears while Luna was left confused for a whole day.
    • Botan confesses that Coco announcing her graduation brought up memories of Aloe, who was forced into retirement shortly after her debut. The one silver lining that Botan finds in this situation is that she will be able to spend time with Coco before her graduation. She spends some time discussing how she prefers to keep her emotions in check during moments like this, as she admits she's not one to show vulnerability in public situations... which makes the June 30 ARK Survival collab (Coco's last collab outside of Gen 4) all the more heartbreaking when Botan just breaks down sobbing mid-sentence. Miko, Coco, Polka, and Nene are all taken aback by just how sad the cool-and-collected lioness shows herself to be.
    • Choco tried to convince Coco to stop multiple times out of her love for her but failing to do so, decided to support her decision. It's clear it has hit her very hard. At the very end of the graduation stream, Choco tweeted a final plea to Coco for the latter not to go. She followed it up after with her tearful thoughts and gave some final thanks to the dragon.
    • Shion, having had to reschedule her meme review with Coco (which ended up covered by Kanata, Towa and Luna) due to her ailing health and mental state, also got hit hard by the news and was crying when commenting on the situation to her fans.
    • Pochi Iida, Reine's illustrator and a VTuber herself, admits in a drawing session that Coco was the first hololive Productions member aside from holostars to get her truly invested in watching their streams, being drawn in by Coco's utterly unconventional brand of content. She also notes the immense positive influence Coco had in drawing fans from all over the world and changing the VTuber industry for the better with a push in learning English to better communicate with oversea fans, before tearing up at the realization of the truth behind the old saying of supporting your idol as much as possible while you still can.
    • The night before Coco's live, Oga held a chatting stream, where the subject about Coco came up. Although he never directly interacted with her, he remembers how happy she made his former genmate Kaoru when she commented on one of his streams, giving them the assurance that their senpai were watching over their efforts as Holostars. Since then, he has been deeply grateful to her, and hopes for the best for her future endeavors.
    • After Coco's graduation, Astel reveals during a singing stream that he held a lot of respect for Coco. He admitted that after her live, he cried for two hours, and expressed his deep regret of being unable to thank her directly for all she has done, not only as one of her viewers, but as Astel (all while sounding like he was on the verge of tears). He then resolves to keep growing as a Vtuber so that he that the next time something like this happens, he'll be able to say 'thank you' to that person directly.
    • Watame's stream following the graduation started with her trying to keep up a brave face, but over the course of the first few minutes of the stream, she was audibly sniffling and her voice shaking, before she finally asked the chat "Is it okay not to hold back anymore?" and proceeding to break down in tears at the depature of her friend. Much of the next hour is her recovering whilst she speaks and laughs with chat.
    • Also after the graduation, Okayu discussed her feelings, having cancelled a plan to run a stream after Coco's final departure as she was crying into her bed, and that as the graduation live ended, she continued to watch the black screen once the live went offline between her tears and reading the chat comments until her iPad ran out of power.
  • Coco's final Reddit review with Kiara deserves special mention. Even though she asked the redditors and the chat to "not make it sad", the posts made it clear how much Coco meant to them and how much they will miss her now that she is leaving. And if you somehow managed to hold back the tears through her shouting "Last Meme" and her final "Goodbye Motherf...ers!", the final few minutes hit you with this brilliant clip by Rey Yuma that hits you like a truck and sums up the feelings of everyone perfectly:
Thank you Kiryu Coco, thank you for always giving it your best! Thank you for all the fun times! Kiryu-kai forever!
  • Coco's graduation stream was bound to be one of these no matter what happened. It's very clear that Coco and the rest of the talents took extreme care in giving her the best send-off possible, as each of the generations, including Gamers, ID, and EN all had pre-recorded interviews with Coco for the purpose of providing English subtitles so that everyone - talents and fans included - could share the moment together. The last of these interviews was with Coco's fellow 4th Generation members in 3D, all sitting down to give their final goodbyes to Kaichou. And it only gets worse from there...
    • First up is Watame, who started out thanking Coco for helping her out during admittedly rough early days with her poor internet connection and turning it into a meme for the fanbase to rally around and boost Watame up. She then goes on to thank Coco for giving her other skills such as thumbnail creation which helped her feel like she wasn't lagging behind her gen-mates and offers to always be around to return the favor should Coco ever need it in the future. Watame also promises to give Coco VIP front-row tickets to when she finally is able to perform at Bukodan, struggling to hold back tears all the while.
    • Luna admits she's the 'least prepared' of the bunch, as she didn't write a letter, but instead drew an adorable picture of Coco with icons representing the rest of 4th Gen saying "Wuv you, Cococha". Towa likens it to a kid showing their mother a school project, to which the other members enthusiastically agree.
    • Towa has a much harder time keeping her emotions in check. She begins by listing the various things that she looks up to Coco for having, such as her vocabulary and relentless optimism, agreeing with Watame's statement that she was able to take the speedbumps off their early days and turn them into boons. However, she slowly starts to become sombre as she recounts what she felt after Coco revealed her plans to graduate, outright bursting into tears after a few moments.
Towa: The more I thought about it, the more I cried, and I couldn't imagine it happening. Even now, I still can't really... Are you really not gonna be around from tomorrow?
      Coco:... Yeah... Seems so...
    • Finally, Coco's closest gen-mate and best friend Kanata reads her letter. It's clear that even though the two will still live together after Coco's graduation, it's still hitting the angel hard.
Kanata: I've spent the past year and a half with you as my gen-mate, my colleague, my friend... and my family.
    • The session ends with Kanata giving Coco a stack of letters, all written by the various members of Hololive. Yes, even with all of the effort and time put into giving Coco a proper goodbye, the other talents still had even more that they wanted to say to her, ensuring that while Coco might be gone, she will never, ever be forgotten or unappreciated.
    • Coco's final performance of "Weather Hackers" with her genmates cheering her on and providing backup vocals all the while. After the bridge, Coco gives her last gestures of affections to them and waves them goodbye, with Kanata being the very last. It's a heartwarming song through and through, but what truly hits the hardest is Coco's final wave at the camera before walking off for the very last time.
  • Though she is a creation for a roleplay stream, Olivia manages to come across as an embodiment of this as she serves as a tragic, Shrinking Violet foil to the more boisterous Ollie: she is initially confused and worried about her present circumstances as it increasingly dawns on her she's not at home and terrified by chat using all caps, she is not close with her gen-mates or senpai (going so far as to describe several of them as "scary"), and being brought to tears when chat tries to make a joke over her lack of chest when she gushes about the ribbon on her design, claiming to not be as pretty as Moona or Reine's counterparts in her world but still trying her best. Olivia even remarks that she never expected so many people to be watching her, an indicator that she suffers from chronic low viewer counts in her home dimension. She does become more cheerful as the stream goes on, but it does beg the question as to exactly how things are for her there.
  • In the beginning of August 2021, Marine released two animated videos featuring an unseen person (from a first person perspective) slapping her across the face, with the first video ending with her on the verge of tears (and the second video ending with her turned on). Marine expected her fans to find the videos either funny or arousing, but was surprised and moved to find that the majority of her fans were instead upset by the videos, and so she released two videos that instead feature a happy Marine receiving headpats, which does count as heartwarming, but the fact that the second video opens with Marine recoiling in fear when the unseen person pretends to go in for another slap before headpatting her counts as this trope.
  • Mumei's background lore might be the saddest amongst all the Holomems. As the sole member of the Council to not have been created by the gods, she's quite isolated from her genmates, despite them appearing to enjoy her company. Not helping this at all are her memory issues, which caused her to forget a lot of the things she's known in the past, including her actual name. This all culminated in her becoming a Stepford Smiler with a very clear pitiable aura to her, who resorted to creating her paper bag friend just to have someone she could be around at all times, not even naming it because she knows that she'd probably forget its name anyway, and she'd be unable to forgive herself if she did.
  • ~FIN~. When Haachama put up a stream with this title, set to start at 23:30 on December 27, 2021, everyone thought it'd just be the end of a story arc, but then shortly before it started, she dropped another short revealing what it was really about: December 28 is Coco's debut anniversary. What ensued was a very heartfelt tribute to the other half of EN Gen 0 in which chat and streamer alike spent half of it in tears, "Weather Hackers" on loop as the BGM.
  • At 1500 JST on February 24, 2022, Cover Corp announced that Rushia's contract would be terminated immediately. This was due to an investigation that revealed she'd apparently been leaking confidential information and business matters to a third party, which is a violation of her contract. While her channel remains up, all of its videos were set to Private and the channel's membership had been ended by the end of March of the same year.
    • Considering that she was featured in a HoloGra before the incident makes it a lot more Harsher in Hindsight.
    • The rest of Gen 3 did a brief, impromptu stream about it on Pekora's channel. They all sound heartbroken, and it's jarring to hear someone as normally upbeat as Pekora or Marine crying. This quote from Noel sums up the entire gen’s feelings on the matter perfectly:
Noel: I love all of Hololive, but even among them the 3rd Gen, my genmates, will always hold a special place in my heart. So it’s extremely sad, painful and unfortunate that one of us is gone now. And I’m sure that same hurt is felt by the other Hololive members, the fans, especially fans of Rushia, and 3rd Gen as a whole. But what’s done is done. We can’t turn back the clock. All we can do is pick ourselves back up, cherish the fans supporting us right now, and move forward with our activities.
    • Based on tweets from the various EN and ID members, it was immediately apparent that these two branches were not made aware via internal communications of Rushia's termination prior to Cover publicly announcing it. During a Pokémon Legends: Arceus stream a few days after the announcement, Kiara shared a story about the unfortunate way she found out about the news: she saw people talking about it on Twitter shortly after waking up on the 24th (at the time of the announcement tweet, it would have been 0700 Central Europe Time), but didn't have time to let the news properly sink in before she had to attend a physical therapy appointment, during which her usual therapist had been replaced by a new one who was stricter on her, and the combined anxiety and stress of these two events eventually made her have a breakdown and start crying during the appointment and being unable to explain why, beyond saying something along the lines of "It's something at work". She also talked about how she wasn't just a fan of Pekora, but of Generation 3 as a whole, and that while as a fellow employee, she understands why Rushia's contract was terminated, as a fan she is just as sad about the news as the rest of Rushia's fans.
    • Rushia's firing also gave the following Holoexpo and Link Your Wish concert a bittersweet tint. The incident happened so close to the event, her presence was still very much felt despite hasty effort to remove her from the roster (so hasty, in fact, that one promotional poster accidentally erased Luna instead), her image still present on a lot of merchandise and pictures yet missing from most of the big venues. The live itself too had a distinct Rushia-shaped hole in it, leaving Ayame with no one to have a duet with, something she could only sadly apologize about after the fact. Even Fubuki herself, usually the most professional member of the cast, couldn't hold it in and interrupted her cheering on the others to cry out about how she wanted to see Rushia on stage with everyone.
  • Rio’s lore video shown in his debut provides a tear-jerking glimpse at both his life before his death and his lonely, aimless existence as an Invisible to Normals ghost. Aside from the fact that he died young with his dream of becoming an idol left unfulfilled, his parents were implied to dislike him (and his voice) at best and be Abusive Parents at worse, with him having to watch his beloved idols in secret away from his mother's eyes. With the sad piano BGM and the beautiful storybook-like arts combined, plenty of tears were shed in just 4 minutes that day.
  • Marine's Marine Set Sail!! music video. Due to the music video being done before Rushia's termination, many were caught off guard by the inclusion of all UMISEA and Fantasy members, especially Rushia's brief scene of her putting a sheet on a sleeping Marine. What was supposed to be a heartwarming and awesome music video ended up having a bittersweet tone.
  • When you look past her joyful hamminess and colorful aesthetic, Polka can be rather melancholy and pensive. Nothing shows this better than her third original song Ever Blue, which can best be surmised as a depressive spiral in the form of a song. The singer muses about how they feel like they have no meaning or purpose in the world and how it feels like all they do is meaninglessly suffer, with it being all but stated that the singer has committed suicide in their bathtub and the lyrics of the song are their dying thoughts.
There is no beautiful end for me,
There is no blaze of glory
Having one single soul is already too much
This world is too big, it's too broken.

    The cold, unfeeling solitude
Has me frozen in place, shackled and chained
Trying to find an end to the dark thoughts that plague my existence.
  • On July 12, 2022, Sana announced her graduation from Hololive, effective on July 31, just shy of her generation's one-year anniversary in August.
    • It also became Harsher in Hindsight for a few other streams. Ina had a Minecraft stream on July 6 2022 and suddenly stopped talking in Sana's house. While a few commenters initially thought she was silently laughing too hard at a comment Sana made in the chat at that moment, the sniffling sounds she made when she began talking again made people suspect she had actually been crying and trying not to show it. However, two days later on July 14, 2022 during another Elden Ring stream, Ina would clarify to the audience in regards to the recent clips of this matter. Turns out she was just laughing after all, because of a message Sana sent right before that exact moment.
Ina: Sana was talking about cake inside the toast dog's butt.
    • Kiara, candid as she is, mentioned on her July 12th Holocure stream that she knew about the decision as far back as the off-collab with all of holomyth at Ame's house in late June. Nevertheless, Kiara has confirmed that Sana's name will not be taboo in the company, and promises to visit Sana and Bae in Australia when she has the chance.
    • Near the end of Kobo's Collab with Sana, she sheepishly asked for another collab with Sana before her graduation as she had so much fun playing with Sana, something that Sana confirmed is unlikely to happen due to her schedules, prompting Kobo to start weeping openly even as she say its okay while Sana tries to comfort her, in complete reversal of her usually cheery and rambunctious personality.
Sana: I'm still here. I'm not gone yet.
      Kobo: "Yet..."
    • News of Sana's graduation would eventually be the hot news for the 65th edition of AsaKoyo. As heartbreaking as it may sound, Koyori's response to this is to simply support Sana to the fullest until it's time to say goodbye. She even acknowledged it as something the speaker of Space chose on her own volition.
    • Of all the Hololive members, the one who took her graduation the hardest was Korone. When Sana first joined, Korone sent her a friend request on Discord, and Sana told her over DM that Korone and Fubuki were her inspiration to join Hololive in the first place, which left Korone flattered. They had intended to do a collab together, but never ended up doing so, which Korone says was her fault because she never took the initiative to schedule one with Sana, and considers it her biggest regret. She spends the entirety of her stream about Sana's graduation trying and failing to fight through her tears, going so far as to blame herself and thinking that she could've done something different.
    • The BEEG Smol model reveal was already going to be a bit of a Tear Jerker do to it being the last collab to feature the full Council lineup. However the real waterworks began toward the end with a beautiful cover of Secret Base (which is heartwrenching enough in you're familiar with the show it comes from), followed by the rest of CouncilRyS saying their goodbyes and well wishes. It was clear that Sana and IRyS in particular was having a hard time keeping their composure.
  • Sana’s graduation concert is filled with a lot of happy and sad tear-inducing moments. The stand outs?
    • Several of the messages she receives are from hololive Japan members, some of whom sadly never got a chance to interact with Sana before she graduated.
Sana, I regret now that I haven't been able to talk and play with you at all since your debut. I wish you a lot of happiness. — Lamy
    • Sana giving her limiter away to the chat because she no longer needs it. Made a little light hearted when she immediately says that she hopes it lands somewhere safe.
    • CouncilRyS comes together to sing "Astrogirl" together for the final song with all of them standing on hovering Sanalite-style platforms. As Sana sings the final lyric ("I'm not alone"), her platform breaks away from CouncilRyS and floats into space as she waves goodbye to her genmates, who are all crying as they wave back.
    • Her last video for the Sanallites, where she expresses her gratefulness to all of her fans. Hololive and the Sanalites all helped her feel loved for who she is and she has zero regrets.
    • The last scene, where a Sanallite is chasing after the departing Sana. The final shot of the Sanallite getting a tearful group hug from the other EN mascots has reportedly reduced many fans to tears.
    • Just before the stream ended, Sana gives one last goodbye with her usual catchphrase: "Sananara."
  • Council's first original song as a group, "Rise", sounds upbeat and motivating, until one realizes that the last line of the song "...for eternity" was sung by Sana, who graduated at the end of July 2022. It makes such a happy song turn bittersweet, especially for Sanalites, despite being recorded prior to her graduation.
  • Sana's graduation still resonates even after she left. When CouncilRyS streamed the CouncilRyS RPG, Sana appeared as an 11th-Hour Ranger and saved the group, which made Bae and Fauna cry.
  • Magni's Version 1.5 debut puts a tragic light on his otherwise unhinged background. Late one night, Magni learns he's a flawed tofu clone of the original Magni Dezmond, headed by a Super Prototype Magmite in hopes of continuing their master's work. The original Magni obsessed himself with alchemy, breaking all the natural laws in hopes of bringing his dead lover back, even for just a short moment to get closure. All those attempts gave birth to the Magmites; they're incomplete recreations of that soul deemed as disposable, failed attempts despite the fact that they were fully sentient beings who were genuinely fond of him despite his neglect. The original Magni perished before he could see his dream realized, leaving behind his Philosopher's Stone, which led to the Magmites partaking in cloning to bring their master back so he could continue. Unfortunately, all of those clones had Magni's Mad Scientist mentality, and were rather sickly. The tofu clones themselves also had a short lifespan, and each one wasn't quite the same as the last. Then, just like the clones before him, the Magni we all knew since debut eventually succumbed to Clone Degeneration, and his corpse tossed into the sea by the lesser Magmites like the rest, with the rest of the Guild completely unaware that any of this is going on.
    • Then there's the way the "1.0" Magni goes out: alone, afraid and experiencing an existential crisis as a result of what the Magmite Leader just told him, he tries to escape to his lab only for his body to give out right in front of the stairs, using what's left of his strength to prop himself up against a wall. We're then treated to a shot of the lesser Magmites crying as they carry the body of their master away, as they have presumably done many times before.
    • Then a new clone wakes up, gains most of the memories of his previous selves, and upon becoming lucid, is completly unaware of what transpired just moments earlier, believing himself to be the "one and only" Magni Dezmond. As far as he's aware, he just woke up from a sudden unplanned nap.
  • In Seishun Archive music video, the middle part shows some of the girls' previous moments in their career; Sora receiving a letter from A-chan during her third anniversary, Moona crying on Iofi's shoulder for her lack of confidence over her language barrier with Pekora, Kiara leaving Japan to live away from everyone else, and Kanata writing Kiseki Knot before Coco's graduation. While the rest of the song is a celebration for the idols, this part is significantly sobering in comparison.
  • During her American Truck Simulator stream, Bijou told a story about how when she was young and her grandmother would give her milk, Bijou didn't like the taste of milk, so she would secretly pour the milk down the kitchen sink, following this up with "Don't tell her! Wait, you can't... tell... her... [Beat] Grandma, I miss you."
  • On August 24th, 2023, it was announced that Magni and Vesper would be graduating at the end of the month. What doesn't help matters is that both were on a month-long hiatus beforehand, which left several fans both worried and hopeful they would eventually return, though it ultimately ended with the worst-case scenario of both of them retiring, and neither of them held graduation streams in accordance with their wishes.
    • Many viewers have also pointed out how Vesper's untimely graduation would mark the second time within the span of a year where a talent designed by Pako has had their career ending prematurely, after Sana's retirement in 2022. The immediate sentiment was one of sympathy towards the artist, especially so given Pako's immense support of Hololive and its idols, not helped by how recent Vesper's redesign was as of his graduation, such that he only managed to use the 2.0 model all of twice, including the reveal stream.
    • Like NePoLaBo with Aloe and Hololive Fantasy with Rushia, the remaining members of Tempus did a guerilla stream on Axel's channel to discuss their thoughts about the news. All six boys sound dejected and heartbroken, with Axel, Bettel and Flayon lacking their usual high energy and Hakka sounding like he's on the verge of tears.
    • The news makes a conversation Magni had with Calli a lot Harsher in Hindsight: at the end of their watchalong of the HOLOSTARS 2nd Act concert, Magni expressed worry about him and the rest of Tempus inevitably performing onstage in the future, not wanting to screw up and fail to meet the high expectations of his fans, but Calli reassured him that they would support him no matter what and told him not to let the expectations get to him. Along with Vesper, Magni ultimately didn't get the opportunity to perform onstage.
    • Having the gimmick of a guild, imagine half of the founders who are no more with them. "TEMPUS Headquarters have never been so empty" feels so fitting in a lonely way.
    • Even the Holostars JP members were saddened by the news particularly, Astel who laments that he wished Magni and Vesper could stay longer so he can see them and the other two boys of Tempus HQ perform onstage in the future. The announcement also made him remember Kira and wished he came back to Holostars.
  • The lore for Advent. All five of them were imprisoned in The Cell for a variety of reasons, all of which have some level of tragedy. While they have said that their time in The Cell wasn't too bad, they would've remained locked away forever had they not escaped.
  • On January 16th 2024, Cover announced the contract termination of Mel, due to the leaking of information (albeit accidentally) to third parties, and, much like Rushia's channel in 2022, would private her videos and close her membership at the end of February 2024. It is mentioned in the notice that Mel herself came to this mutual conclusion with the company, and was allowed to deliver a farewell letter (translation here) to the community. The fact that A-chan and Yagoo both thanked Mel for all she did despite the termination shows that the Banpire is leaving on at least somewhat amicable terms. Her genmates were also distraught by the news, with Matsuri unable to hold back tears as Fubuki consoled her. There is a silver lining from her termination, as according to Calli, her name will not become taboo to mention.
  • Octavio's unarchived Valentine's Day Musical, which involved some Audience Participation, revolves around loving someone and losing them, as the beloved dies at the end. The last scene is at a church, where a funeral is taking place.
