As a Moments subpage, all spoilers are unmarked as per policy. You Have Been Warned.

  • Chara's death in the first season. After being purified of the hate and being redeemed, their SOUL is too badly damaged to survive and they begin to fade away in Asriel's arms, lasting just long enough to say goodbye and give what's left of their SOUL to him to give him a way to break the Barrier without Frisk needing to die.
"Heh... You always were a crybaby..."
  • Jessica Grey's memory, which plays out to a slow and sad remix of the song "Sunshine". After her husband had died, she had made a promise to go to her daughter's recital (Maybe?). She ends up not going, and in tears that her mother didn't keep her promise, she runs away. Where she soon falls into The Underground, and is killed by Asgore. What she screams after can also break your heart if it wasn't.
Jessica Grey: (While in tears) "YOU MURDERED HER"
    • What makes it worse is that, just before Asgore's revelation, Jessica Grey was clearly recovering from her hatred of monsters... she was willing to open up to Frisk, she seemed almost enthusiastic about the treaty, and we see her smile far more often after meeting Gaster and Toriel than she was before. And then, that all goes away when she learns what happened to her daughter.
  • Sans' death. The song that plays during his last few moments is just heartbreaking, made worse by the fact that the only one around to witness it (other than the killer) is his lifelong enemy, who had just patched things up with him. The video's not shy about showing what kind of impact the death has, either... Gaster feels it all the way from his lab, and his blue eye-light goes out... part of him died when Sans did (Word of God mentioned that this was because Gaster had received 50% of his power from Sans because when monsters die they return 50% of their power back to the host parents, further implying Sans is gone for good.) Also, we know Sans is gone not just because of him turning to dust, but his eyes go out too.
Sans: Asriel.....Enjoy the future for me....
  • Frisk's reaction to Sans' death. They crumble to the ground, losing some of their Determination.
    • Continuing in the theme of reactions to his death, we get to see Papyrus in tears. He looks utterly crushed.
    • Gaster, on the other hand, apparently trashed the lab in response. When Frisk goes to see him, he's moved on to a state of tired, depressed, and resigned contemplation.
  • Ms. Grey's Heel–Face Turn. She goes to the prison to apologize to Asgore and Papyrus. She says, amid tears, that she knows she doesn't deserve any forgiveness, and accepts Asgore's kindness silently, obviously not taking it to heart. When she goes to Papyrus' cell, however, she rejects any attempt of Papyrus to forgive her. She says, amid tears, that even though she didn't kill Sans herself, if it wasn't for her, he'd still be alive. Papyrus eventually gives up on words and simply gives Ms. Grey a big hug, saying "I forgive you", thus giving Ms. Grey back her trait of Integrity.
  • Alphys' death. Made even worse by the severe Mood Whiplash from going straight from a triumphant moment (the supposed death of Betty) to... well, this. For extra tears, Betty proceeds to manipulate Undyne into being the one to deal the finishing blow. The end result? Undyne in tears. Even worse is knowing Alphys went into the chamber willing, knowing she would die if she didn't kill Betty.
Undyne: Trembling within the breeze/ I can feel my soul is shaking/ Even with a single blow/ Everything that is comes undone/ Using every ounce of strength / Just to keep myself from breaking/ I can only watch you walk by...
Undyne: Holding onto everything / Even when my body shatters/ I will never let you pass/ Even when my tears run dry/ Beating with our hearts as one/ Everyone I know is praying... I will strike you down, Do or Die.
    • Made worse that after Love Part 2 we see that Sans was able to come back and Asriel is also capable of returning due to their souls being taken by Kumo, but being still intact. Alphys' soul was unknowingly destroyed by Undyne, meaning Alphys is probably dead for good.
    • The fact that Undyne still blames herself for this even after her complete ass kicking of Betty.
  • From early glimpses of "Love," we get to see more of those hallucinations Gaster had in "Do or Die" during his fight with Betty. It is a flashback of when he fell into the CORE. And then there's what was above him and who Gaster was reaching towards in that moment...
  • Of all people to get a tearjerker moment, who'd have thought it would be Betty and Kumu, after spending the past two episodes as the Big Bad? After Kumu eats the Hate vial to save his dying mistress, she finds that it is feeding off of her power and pulls a Villain: Exit, Stage Left where she later lashes out at Kumu for eating all of it - and then she turns miserable and genuinely apologizes. She then sits against the wall, still visibly depressed, and admits that she is scared to death of Hate, and laments that it has plans of its own and is leading her and Kumu away from their original plans, their reasons for existing, as they speak. It's honestly shocking to see her so upset and vulnerable when before she and Kumu were nothing but monsters.
  • When the viewer gets to see the twenty-six souls Akumu's already collected, an astute viewer might notice that there is an odd color out. There is one and only one green soul. The soul of Cam, the kid who died protecting his sister.
  • The entire discussion that Frisk and Asriel have at the end of Part 1 for Love. Not only does Frisk reveal everything they've done and hidden, but they also diss their best friend and compare him to Flowey. All so they can raise their LV without killing someone.
  • Another sad moment for Betty of all people. Frisk is imagining all the past enemies who have killed them - Undyne, Flowey, Asgore... and then they find themselves in what appears to be a new Imagine Spot staring down Betty, and her Slasher Smile changes all of a sudden to an innocent and fearful look, complete with her body glitching and her colors inverting. This is all we see of Amber for the episode, but it's a sad and disturbing reminder that Betty only exists because a young girl had to lose her life for the former to be born into her body.
  • Asgore and Asriel's heart-felt conversation about friendship and facing consequences.
  • Just before Frisk is about to leave to confront Betty, Toriel tries to stop them. They respond by drawing a sword made from Determination and slicing Toriel's hand. They then proceed to say that they are not Toriel's child and Toriel is not their mother. This is enough to get them to LV 3. Seeing her walk around the rest of the episode with her hand in bandages is extremely difficult to watch knowing that she deserved nothing close to that.
    • Gaster screaming his hatred of Jessica to her face. He nearly attacks her, but loses heart, and simply walks away while stating that he wished that he had never met her. This causes Jessica to lose nearly all of her Integrity, with her hair changing back almost completely to a dull grey.
  • Asriel's death. His dying words make it even worse.
  • Glitchtale Origins. Betty was really Amber, the daughter of the original Kindness and Integrity wizards, Integrity died, and we have no idea what happened with Kindness. Afterwards, both the Lightvales adopted her as a sibling, but Agate had the whole argument with Copper, leading to her attempt to kill Copper.
    • Along with this, we learn how Copper truly lost his determination...Agate murdered Amber in cold blood, in an attempt to get to Copper. It works. She then drags Amber's body away to turn her into the last remnant of Fear forever.
    • Amber's soul is gone, so she will never return to her original self, and Bete Noire is all that is left. Her soul was created by Agate's own soul emptying into nothingness and being filled with Fear before storing her creation inside of it. So while Betty may be Amber in body and memories (that Agate retained), her soul is entirely different. At the same time that she IS Amber, she is NOT Amber and will never be again. And her purpose is to kill, especially the Red Soul, and then get erased from existence with everyone else.
    • The prequel comic makes this even worse. When Betty and Kumu are spawned into the world after the barrier goes down, they both seem genuinely sweet and cheerful, looking to explore the world before the soul of Agate arrives and corrupts her now-terrified creation. Even though her original self, Amber, was long gone, Betty could have been a genuinely good person and lived a happy life with Kumu if Agate hadn’t corrupted her into a horrible demonic being after she woke up. Knowing this, it is much more difficult to place blame on her for her actions rather than Agate, who is pulling the strings. A fan-made animation of this can be found here.
    • In a comic taking place after Kumu kills Sans, Betty sadly laments that she doesn’t really understand what she is other than something to be hated by everyone around her, when from her point of view she is following orders and making “mom” proud, even though deep down underneath her psychotic episodes she isn’t sure that it’s right. She tells Kumu that they’re just trying to speed up the process of a time bomb that involves humans and monsters eventually going to war again and destroying each other, also saying she’s no worse than Frisk (murdering everyone out of curiosity), Asgore (killing children to break the barrier), Asriel (all his actions as Flowey), etc. This may be an indication of jealousy at how they have made so many great friends and are generally loved and respected by most of the community, while in her mind they’re as bad as she is. She then tells Kumu to wait until the sun comes up, as she doesn’t know how to sleep at all - the concept is completely foreign to her, referring to it as “that thing humans and monsters do”.
    • In yet another comic, Betty is congratulating Kumu on taking enough souls before realizing how familiar their surroundings seem, making her oddly uncomfortable and nervous. Upon investigating, she finds a piece of her skirt trapped under debris (originally Amber’s skirt, as it is still the original color), causing Betty to begin to have a Villainous Breakdown. She then finds Agate’s bones and tattered clothing, realizing that this was where both her past soul (Amber) and her creator (Agate) died. She completely loses her mind, breathing heavily and giving in to her own element of Fear, trying desperately to comfort herself by saying that she can’t die like they did and that she has to complete her mission because it’s “the only way” to save her people (despite not being technically human). Agate has turned her once-innocent creation completely delusional and left her insane in order to clean up her own mess. Even worse, Betty still seems to be trying hard to convince herself that her evil doings are for a good cause.
  • In "My Promise" Frisk ends up doing the unthinkable and goes to the void to meet up with Chara. After a small conversation, Frisk reveals he was intending to replace himself with Chara. As memories of Frisk are either replaced by Chara or removed entirely, Chara tells Frisk to stop it, but they're sent off to do their thing, leaving Frisk to eventually disintegrate into nothingness and be erased from the timeline. Camila made it even worse by removing Frisk from her channel banner and a lot of her own art.
  • Also from My Promise: When Betty goes on a rampage because of the many Hate corrupted souls that were contained after her previous battle, she immediately starts smashing and breaking souls with hate on them effortlessly. Just think of all those kids she just straight up Murdered.
    • And just to drive the point home that Agate has made this girl absolutely soulless, she absorbs the magic of the sole Green soul in her possession and destroys it, barring any chance of our dear friend Cam from returning as a Soul Ghost. This is mitigated however by the fact that Cam probably went straight to the afterlife as Jessica eventually did when her own soul shattered.
  • The fates of everyone from the original Glitchtale Timeline:
    • Chara ultimately fails to save Asriel due to him remembering that Chara destroyed his locket, denouncing their friendship before fatally stabbing him. With no options left, Chara creates the 2nd timeline by going back in time and leaving a second locket behind. As he disintegrates, he laments that he wished he could've done more before saying that maybe Asriel has a better chance now.
    • Ronan's injuries are more severe than in Timeline 2, so he ends up dying in Undyne's arms before Rave can get to them. Once he dies, Kumuzilla sends a huge chunk of rubble their way and Undyne, unable to cope with the guilt of having failed to save her friend, simply lets herself get crushed.
    • Sans finds Papyrus in the house slumped against the wall as he's dusting from his injuries.
Sans: hey. Sorry i'm late... at least we can do this together...
    • For Gaster, the Teleporter ends up being broken, so Jessica dies senselessly. Gaster ends up impaled inside the rubble, the smile on his face serving as an indication that he hoped this would happen, with the last image being his body beginning to dust. His last words?
      Gaster: Finally... some rest...
    • Rave pulls a Last Stand with his squad of Kindness wizards, hoping they will buy time for everyone else to escape. His final words are to ask his long-dead brother Noah if he is proud of him before Kumuzilla shatters the shield while he is still connected to The Avalon, draining his magic all at once and instantly killing him.
  • While it's also heartwarming, a tearjerker moment in Game Over Part 2: Jessica's death. When both Jessica and Gaster are trapped in rubble (with the latter having most of his body stuck under rubble), the two reach a gruesome conclusion to this mess: Only one of them can teleport out of this place using the only Teleporter that Jessica has. Gaster convinces Jessica to go without him, and despite attempting to use her gun at max magic output (which weakens her more), goes with Gaster's words. Except she decides to hand the Teleporter to Gaster after activating it, leaving her to get crushed by falling rubble.
    • Gaster tries so hard to get her to leave, saying that he hated her, yelled at her and even tried to kill her even though she was working hard to make amends. He has honestly given up on himself at this point and just wants to die, feeling as though he deserves it, even though his sons desperately need him.
  • The scene with Papyrus against Betty's pink blobs. After fighting in the lab and facing certain death, he blew the lab up alongside himself. There's a shot of him later in the end credits, lying on the ground, and it's not clear from that image if he survived the explosion or if he's moments away from dusting.
    • Don’t worry: as of the new “Animosity” trailer, he’s revealed to be fine. Sans, on the other hand...
  • “papyrus... i dont have much time left... you can feel it, right?”
  • Cami hits us in the feels yet again at the end of "HATE". After witnessing the deaths of the 6 human children that came before Frisk/Chara, Toriel is blinded by fear and tosses an EXTREMELY powerful fireball at Asgore. And it's not until after the effect wears off that she realizes what she's done. Betty's taunting doesn't make it better either.
    • "HATE" has another tear jerking scene, this one right before the above scene. Betty forces Toriel into reliving the deaths of all six children. Each one looks extremely young (none of them can be older than twelve). The screen cuts to their souls one by one, and the child's dying screams play. Made even worse by Toriel desperately begging Asgore to spare their lives. Hell, the soul of Kindness even has his hand out as if trying to help Asgore or calm him down.
    • The worst part of Toriel striking Asgore with the fireball is that, aside from using an illusion on Toriel, Betty didn't even have to lift a finger - Toriel herself did all the rest. Even Betty admits that she's stunned and shocked (albeit still visibly pleased with the results) at what Toriel did, saying that she didn't expect the attack to be nearly as strong as it was. It’s as if she was hoping Toriel would damage Asgore enough for herself to recover and finish them both, but instead Toriel shot to kill.
  • We find out that Rave's brother died saving him from an accident, when their mother finds out, instead of comforting him, she tells the then boy You Should Have Died Instead.
  • Sans' second (and presumably final) death. He joins the fray again, only to die again as a result of exhausting his remaining Determination magic supply against Betty, only this time, in front of Papyrus and Gaster. He even starts to melt like an Amalgamate in his last few moments. What's worse is that he doesn't even get to say goodbye, and the rest of the heroes don't even know that he's died again.
    Sans: a-are you two okay?...
  • Following the above mentioned event, Gaster SNAPS. Fueled by The Power of Hate he unleshes his ultimate ability - Polychromatism to curbstomp Betty, seemingly finally killing her, while undeniably awesome, it's a bit sad to see such a gentle soul be so consumed with hatred. Poor Gaster.
    • And during said snap, Gaster using his ultimate ability involved draining magic away from Papyrus. At least Papyrus managed to force him back to reality before Gaster went too far and lost two sons in one day.
  • Gaster's line, "I'm so tired." It really sells how he just wants all of this to end so that he can rest, and how even finishing off the creature who tore his family apart wasn't enough to lift him of his current state. Worse, he then seems to go into some sort of coma, and just in time for HATE to take the stage, leaving Papyrus almost completely defenseless. Thank goodness for Chara and Asriel.
  • While she is an Asshole Victim to the highest degree, It's easy to feel sympathy for Betty, since not only was she another of Agate's victims in the end, her last words are a lament not for herself, but for the world she's leaving behind, as she's well aware who is in control after her death.
Betty: Ahh... they killed me. Ironically that seems like your biggest mistake yet... All this time I've been keeping it under control. But now nothing stands between IT... and you. And it won't stop until there's nothing left.
  • Toriel tearing up about how she treated Asgore, admitting that she has a huge amount of self-loathing that she projected onto him.
  • Even HATE has an oddly sad scene where, in its last moments, as it runs out of magic and therefore the ability to maintain physical form, it stops just short from tearing at Chara to get to Asriel. It just… stands there, lowers its head and… gives up, disappearing presumably for good. The reason as to why remains a mystery…
  • Papyrus breaks down in tears and admits that he feels like it’s his fault that his brother died and his father almost followed because, even though he followed Betty alone, he didn’t truly want to hurt her at all. Even after everything she did to the world (including killing Paps’ own brother Sans), he still felt awful at the idea of hurting her, and adds that he wishes he had the same desire to kill her that Gaster did. Thus further cements Papyrus as an All-Loving Hero who is capable of showing sympathy for anyone. He even felt sorry for Betty, likely because he knew she was made specifically to be incapable of changing or feeling positive emotions. Yet, because he couldn’t muster the killing intent towards her, he feels as though he’s let his family down. However, Gaster corrects him by saying he’s glad his son didn’t turn out like him and didn’t give in to a rage and hatred that nearly killed both his last son and himself and succeeded in making HATE stronger. He tells his crying son that he’s proud Papyrus isn’t truly a fighter, and that his hands aren’t meant to hurt, but instead to heal.
    • One has to wonder if Paps is bitter that Betty wasn’t a creature that could have been saved like Asriel, Chara, or even Gaster himself, otherwise he may have tried to reach out to her.
  • Rave’s relationship with Grace hasn’t improved in the years since Noah passed. Luckily, Ronan has his back and is willing to stand up for him.
  • Glitchtale Origins: Gaster reveals that Gaster had an Abusive Dad in the form of Roman, who kept trying to push him into cruelty and violence with the excuse of protecting his companions. Roman keeps belittling Gaster while sparring, criticising him for every error and pushing him to the point where Gaster nearly blasts his dad with Polychromatism... and when he refuses to kill him, Roman just takes it as another proof of weakness and tells Gaster not to contact him again, while Gaster just cries for his father to show love to him.
