    The New Protagonist

Arika/Ultimate Goddess Arcadiarika

"ULTIMATE RANGER ADVENT, AWAKEN THE LEGEND!"
"I know it’s been a year since I regained my powers and memories. But…I really don’t want to lose anyone else."

The main heroine of Super Sentai vs. Power Rangers IV. Arika is a simple college student who just happens to live in a world that's far from ordinary. When Hannah gives her two fanfics to read, the young woman doesn't realize that, by doing so, her life would change. But to what extent?

Arika also appears in Power Rangers Clockwork as a main character, having been teleported to Velothi Castle, renamed Urverk Castle, by a mysterious force.

  • Amnesiac God: Confirmed in both Chapters 15 and especially 20 of Part 1 that Arika used to be a deity until a tragic accident caused her to lose her powers and memories.
  • Author Avatar: One to Arcadiarika, made even more obvious with her sharing the same pen name as the liveblogger. And just like her in real life, Arika doesn't swear much, if at all.
  • Brought Down to Normal: Twice. The first time was before IV, where the Replacement Rangers had a hand in turning her into the shy, scared, normal woman seen in the liveblog arc proper. The second was in Power Rangers Clockwork, where a force made her lose her morpher, but that time, she was able to keep her memories and personality.
  • Contrasting Sequel Main Character: To Rika herself. While Rika in the original trilogy and 3.5 was a brash, swear-happy, alcohol-drinking young woman-turned-Lich who constantly got herself into moments of despair, Arika is less inclined to swear, shy, completely human, and doesn't touch alcohol all that much. She also is concerned with keeping up appearances, wanting to just be a normal woman until Chapter 8 of Part 1. And while Rika only became a goddess after Super Sentai vs. Power Rangers III, Arika may have possibly been one before her.
It also continues when she gets her powers and memories back: while she's still less inclined to swear unless if needed, still human, and unwilling to drink to drown her sorrows or stupidity, Arika is relatively calmer and more level-headed than Rika, as shown in Chapter 1 of Power Rangers Clockwork.
Arika to Carter: "I know it isn’t a weapon you’re used to too terribly often. But when the situations get rough like this, you have to do what’s needed to overcome it. Plus, for now, I thought you’d have a better use for the sword than I, at least until we find you, I don’t know, a bow and arrows or something."
  • I Am Who?: What inspires the majority of the heroes to help her, along with Serena and Eli to deny her help: they want her to be brought back to who she was. Chapters 15 and 20 of Part 1 reveals who she really is: she's the alternate universe's goddess.
  • Late-Arrival Spoiler: Arika's appearance in the story Power Rangers Clockwork spoils the fact that she does eventually regain her memories, personality, and powers as a goddess.
  • Light 'em Up: Arika's primary magical powers, with the Staves of Aerolight, Faerie Fire, and Magelight capable of shooting powerful beams at her enemies.
  • Transformation Trinket: The Legendary Morpher.
  • Walking Spoiler: As of Chapter 20 of Part 1, it's impossible to reveal who Arika really is without giving it away, and why she's so important to the supporting protagonists. Doubly so with her appearance in Power Rangers Clockwork, which gives away her ultimate fate.
  • Whole Costume Reference: As Ultimate Goddess Arcadiarika, her goddess outfit takes cues from Ciri's outfit in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt combined with the ribbons and skirt inspired by Madoka's new magical girl outfit in Puella Magi Madoka Magica's concept movie. Power Rangers Clockwork also includes the Blue Glass Armor, which is all but stated to be the modified Glass Armor from Skyrim.

    The Replacement Rangers

Selected as five people, the replacement Rangers are the main heroes for Super Sentai vs. Power Rangers IV, taking over from the All-Stars.

Tropes Applying To Them As a Whole

  • Original Generation: All five were created by the blogger herself, giving the alternate name "The OC Rangers".
  • Walking Spoiler: All of them are not what they seem to be come Part 1 of Chapter 15. With the possible exceptions of Jennifer Fleight and Gerald Rivera, the Replacement Rangers are evil, at least kidnapping other fellow Rangers if any of them suspected of what they did, and may have had a hand in making Arika regress to a timid young woman.

Gerald Rivera/Rivia / Red Lightspeed Ranger

  • Ascended Extra: Showed up as a picture in Super Sentai vs. Power Rangers 3.5, and made his full appearance in IV and IV RELOADED.
  • The Leader: Of the Replacement Rangers.
  • Leitmotif: "Numinous", played in Chapter 15 of Part 1 while remembering what the goddess told him, and why he's holding onto her words.
  • Token Good Teammate: To the Replacement Rangers, along with Jennifer. He absolutely refuses to do the experiments willingly to the kidnapped Rangers, and in Chapter 15 of Part 1, he decides to warn Keith about the rest of the team to avoid the same fate.

Serena Watson / Blue Mystic Ranger

  • Making a Splash: As the Blue Mystic Ranger, this is her primary ability. However, not only can she use attacks with them, she also can create objects out of water.
  • We Used to Be Friends: She and Hannah were friends until a fateful mission turned things sour between the two.

Kunio Watanabe / Yellow Alien Ranger

  • Adapted Out: He does not appear at all in IV RELOADED.
  • The Faceless: He never appears unmorphed in the times we see him.

Eli Fleight / Green S.P.D Ranger

  • Brother–Sister Team: With his sister, Jennifer.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: The red to Jennifer's blue; he's very by-the-book, maintains order, but is very brash on his actions and acts impulsively.

Jennifer Fleight / Pink Time Force Ranger

  • Brother–Sister Team: With her brother, Eli.
  • Fair Cop: In the original IV, she is very pretty and easy on the eyes, and like her brother, works as a cop while not on Ranger duty. Not surprising, given that she's also based on the original Pink Time Force Ranger, Jen Scotts.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: The blue to Eli's red, being the calmer of the two and more rational, especially when she calls out her brother for his actions.

    Allies

Keith Kleinberg

A mysterious man who arrived a few days before the events of Super Sentai vs. Power Rangers IV. Keith is a normal human who likes showing off his magic tricks to anyone who wants to see them. Unfortunately for him, Serena's the one who has the hold on the citizens, which is why he doesn't get many people. However, just like Arika, there may be more to Keith than at first glance...

For more information about Keith's true form, see here.

  • Adapted Out: In IV RELOADED, he does not show up, not even as Rika's alternate forms.
  • Gender Bender: Keith is Rika, using her illusion powers to disguise herself as a man.
  • Street Performer: His entire reason for living so far, as he likes to entertain people by doing some basic magic tricks and stunts.
  • Walking Spoiler: The part that says there's more to him than at first glance isn't just for show and tell. Come Chapter 26 of Part 1, it's revealed why: he's actually Rika, the protagonist of the first three liveblogs.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Calls out Gerald in Chapter 15 of Part 1 for failing to stop the other Replacement Rangers from doing the experiments to the captured Rangers. He does it again in Chapter 20 of the same part, this time to Serena, Eli, and Kunio, for rarely—if ever—showing up to help dispatch the akuma.
  • Wrestler in All of Us: Thanks partially to his training with Hannah in Chapter 17, and partially to him starting that he watched a bit of wrestling prior to the story, he's able to execute a spear, a clothesline, and even a Superman Punch.

Carter Grayson / Red Lightspeed Ranger (Alternate) / Undeath Hunter Zekar

The former leader of the Lightspeed Rangers. Before the events of Super Sentai vs. Power Rangers IV, Carter was a trusted friend to Arika and her allies until the tragic accident that changed the goddess. Because of his later suspicions, he was captured by the Replacement Rangers, tortured and eventually killed so he would become Walpurgis.

As Walpurgis, he had the ability to warp reality, ensnare victims to his realm, and kill them. Unfortunately for him, his intended victim, Keith Kleinberg, did not want to go down easily. With the Thousand Arrows attack, Keith—in actuality Rika—killed the akuma.

After the events of IV, Carter was resurrected, and he would later appear in Power Rangers Clockwork as one of the main characters, once again teaming up with Arika.

  • And I Must Scream: In Power Rangers Clockwork, his soul was trapped in a crystalline heart shortly after he died, with Aricin's corrupted soul controlling his undead body. Ari!Carter could do hardly anything as his body fought against Arika and Sean.
  • Battle Theme Music: As Undeath Hunter Zekar, "Immortal" by Thomas Bergersen.
  • Brought Down to Normal: In Power Rangers Clockwork, a mysterious force takes away his morpher, leaving him with nothing to defend himself with against the dangers.
  • By the Power of Grayskull!: "ZEKAR, FORVANDLE!"note
  • Came Back Strong: Of a sort. As Aricin/the Gilded Amalgam, while still being berserk and virtually mindless, he was able to nearly kill Arika and Sean. Keep in mind that, despite being mostly powerless at that time, the two were still gods. This continued in the final chapter, where the Zekar Crystal chose him as the new holder of the Zekar powers after his true soul was restored.
  • Composite Character: Maintains the Ranger position he himself and Matoi Tatsumi once held in their respective series, but combines his own sense of leadership with several easygoing traits from Matoi and is less strict than what he is originally. In the finale of Power Rangers Clockwork, he also becomes the counterpart to Beast-Demon Hunter Zeek.
  • Cool Sword: Inherited Aricin's sword, Mezzanine, in the final chapter of Power Rangers Clockwork. In addition of it being his phylactery capable of transforming him between his Revenant and Gilded Amalgam forms, it also transforms into the Zekar Blade when he morphs into Undeath Hunter Zekar.
    • Gun And Sword: The Zekar Blaster and the Zekar Blade as Undeath Hunter Zekar.
  • Late-Arrival Spoiler: Much like Arika, Ari!Carter's appearance in Power Rangers Clockwork gives away the fact that he comes back to life after IV.
  • Man in the Machine: Much like Aricin, Ari!Carter was flayed after he died a second time and his skeleton was gilded into mechanical armor. Unlike Aricin, however, the neck down was flayed.
  • '90s Hair: Averted with his original body before he died the first time: Ari!Carter sported the same short brown hair as seen on Super Megaforce. Played straight when he was reborn in a new body, he sported the curtained hair he originally had in Lightspeed Rescue.note
  • Reality Warper: As Walpurgis, he was able to change the landscape of his reality into something that resembled a video game of various genres in order to weaken and disorient Keith; and before that, he created a pocket realm for his battle.
  • Soul Jar: Aricin's sword, Mezzanine, enchanted by Asgaut Velothi as thanks for his assistance to convince Aricin.
  • That Man Is Dead: Said it in Chapter 6 as Aricin/the Gilded Amalgam. Turned out that he wasn't really dead: his own soul was repressed as Aricin took over.
  • Transformation Trinket: The Rescue Morpher. He later obtains the Zekar Crystal in Power Rangers Clockwork.
  • Walking Spoiler: Not only does he give away the fact that he is revived after Super Sentai vs. Power Rangers IV, but there's a reason why parts of his trope page is spoiler-tagged for Power Rangers Clockwork.

    The Velothi Family

Introduced in Power Rangers Clockwork, they were a merchant family seeking for a new place to live in Norway. With the help of numerous workers, a castle was constructed for them. However, a tragic fate befell them all...

Tropes Applying to Them as a Whole

  • Adaptation Name Change: In the original mod Clockwork, the characters there were Lahar and Lamashtu/Shadow. Here, they are renamed Asgaut and Brynja Velothi.
  • Composite Character: The Velothi family combine their roles their counterparts in the original mod had, with Brynja as the main villain, Asgaut as the keeper of the castle, and Aricin as the enforcer, with their status as the rich merchant family in the mod's backstory who lived in the castle until a series of strange happenings and tragedies befell them.
  • Leitmotif: "Fleshless", played in Chapter 3 when Brynja talks about Delarium and makes a promise to the heroes that they will serve under her, and again in Chapter 4 during Brynja's attempt to turn Ari!Carter against Arika by invoking his paranoia. Alternate versions of the theme also plays in plot-important scenes involving the family.
    • "Echo of the Past", played near the end of Chapter 4 when Brynja captures Ari!Carter Grayson and declares that he will serve a purpose to Delarium.

Brynja Velothi

"You really think you can escape…don’t you?"

The main villain of the story. In the past, Brynja was concerned when the family moved to the castle, citing isolation as her main problem. Over time, as construction continued, she listened to the whispers of Delarium, an ancient civilization with more advanced technology. Those whispers allowed her to see her family as the ones who would obtain immortality, and to that end, she poisoned her own husband, Asgaut, and her son, Aricin. After that, she fell into the lava of Durina.

Since then, Brynja, now a spirit, sought victims who would join her family to Delarium, creating portals to teleport them to the tunnels of Urverk Castle.

  • Battle Theme Music: "Reborn" by Thomas Bergersen.
  • Big Bad: Of Power Rangers Clockwork, being the main force—literally in this case—that drives the plot.
  • Brainwashed and Crazy: The whispers of Delarium warped her mind to the point where she sought to kill the entire family and countless victims, all in the name of the very civilization.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: Corrupted as she may be, Brynja still had a bit of care for her son, Aricin. Even though she was the one who killed him and flayed his dead body in order to become the Gilded Amalgam, she was not happy when she found out that Arika and Sean killed him. Or so she thought. Even when Aricin was no longer brainwashed, she begged her son to rejoin her, but he refused.
  • From Nobody to Nightmare: In life, she was a simple woman who fell into the whispers of Delarium. In undeath, she has lent a hand in killing hundreds of victims, whether it's through her own ghostly powers, invoking paranoia, or having the Gilded Automatons doing the job for her, ensuring the haunted reputation of Urverk Castle for over two millennia.
  • Ghostly Gape: Sports a gape that is locked as if she is screaming, hinting how she met her end two thousand years ago.

Asgaut Velothi

The patriarch of the Velothi family. Asgaut was the one who oversaw the construction of Velothi Castle, later renamed "Urverk Castle" by his son. He kept four journals that detailed their lives from the beginning of the castle's construction to his death by poison.

After his death, Asgaut served as the keeper of the castle itself.

  • My God, What Have I Done?: Had this reaction when a piece of metal struck Aricin during the construction of the Travel Portal, and his mind drifted to fear of never seeing his son again.
  • The Voice: While he does speak, the only appearances he has had were of a painting and when the heroes discovered his corpse adorned in golden armor. His actual appearance as a spirit didn't appear until Chapter 7.

Aricin Velothi / The Gilded Amalgam

"And because of this, because of my mother’s own descent into madness, the Velothi family name is ruined! We will be known as monsters and killers…that is our mark on this world!"

The son of Brynja and Asgaut Velothi. What is known about him is only revealed in Asgaut's journals. In his adult age, he was uneasy towards the whispers of Delarium that haunted his mother, as well as the metal that came from the civilization.

His final months were filled with tragedy: first, during the construction of the Travel Portal, a piece of metal struck him, rendering him bedridden. Then he slowly succumbed to poison. The last mentions of him were in the last few months of Asgaut's life, where a hulking metallic warrior, completely skeletal, loomed over him and Brynja. This metallic warrior was Aricin, having been converted into the Gilded Amalgam.

Over a bit of time, however, Aricin's crystalline heart became too weak to support his larger body, and both broke down. To that end, he and Brynja slew hundreds of people seemingly capable enough to house his hearts, as well as using more crystalline hearts to hold the victims until their souls became fuel to Aricin's. But they all suffered the same fate...until Ari!Carter stepped into the castle one day.

  • And I Must Scream: Like Ari!Carter, Aricin had his soul stored in the crystalline heart; unlike him, his soul was split in two so the rest would be used for the Remnant. Anytime he awakens, he's truly not himself, his real self can do nothing but watch. And anytime he dies, his soul replays the last few months of his life.
  • Battle Theme Music: "Rada" by Thomas Bergersen in Chapter 6.
  • Cool Sword: Mezzanine, gifted by his mother, Brynja, before he died. It's a strong sword made of the brass metal the Delarians had. It also became Ari!Carter's phylactery in the final chapter, housing his soul and allowing him to transform between his Revenant and the now-lich-like Gilded Amalgam forms.
  • The Dragon: To his own mother, Brynja, as the guardian of Delarium.
  • From Nobody to Nightmare: In life, he was a mere son of a jewellery merchant. In undeath, he became the feared guardian of Delarium, killing hundreds just so that his corrupted soul would be strengthened, much to his dismay in Chapter 7.
  • The Ghost: Aricin's only appearance is a painting of him and his family. Outside of that, his latest form didn't appear until Chapter 5, and he finally made his full appearance in Chapter 7.
  • Go Out with a Smile: After he helped Arika and Sean to free the trapped souls, and when his crystalline heart broke, Aricin died a final time while sporting a smile on his face. A huge contrast to how he died the first time by suffering from the effects of poison.
  • Heel–Face Turn: In the final chapter of Power Rangers Clockwork, after some convincing from Ari!Carter, Aricin decides to help Arika and Sean out in freeing the trapped souls before he passes on. And earlier in the chapter, he lets his mother know exactly where he stands on the plan, letting her know that they will stop the influences of Delarium from claiming more victims.
  • Leitmotif: "Our Mark on This World", played in Chapter 7 as he lamented on how much his family's name had fallen.
  • Man in the Machine: When Aricin finally died, his entire body was flayed, leaving just a skeleton. Then his skeleton was gilded into armor.
  • Many Spirits Inside of One: What eventually gave Aricin the moniker of "the Gilded Amalgam": his bodies after his initial one were made from stronger victims, and many more people were killed and placed into crystalline hearts in order to power his bodies and his own corrupted soul, eventually claiming their souls as his own.
  • Named by the Adaptation: His counterpart in the original mod is only known as the Amalgam. Here, because of getting a backstory before he became the Gilded Amalgam, he is given the name "Aricin Velothi".
